On average, the 2007 Jeep Commander starts to “feel” problems with the ENGINE and its various aspects after 98 130 miles.

Recently reported ENGINE problems on 2007 Jeep Commander

We have been having issues with our jeep just suddenly turning off. very dangerous situation specially since we have our kids in the jeep with us when it happens. we could be driving on the freeway and the jeep will just shut off and will not show no problem codes. this happens at any speed and no speed. we turn the jeep on a let it warm up. about 2 minutes later it shuts off. we have to turn it back on. then we would be driving at speed below 30 mph and turns off. and most dangerously on the freeway when it just turns off and we have to pull over and this is hard specially because the steering wheel is so stiff. hopefully jeep/chrysler can do something about it.

While driving straight in the fast lane on the highway at around 65 mph, my vehicle suddenly shut off with no warning and i noticed that all dashboard warning lights came on. fortunately, there was a fast-lane shoulder that i was able to steer it on, or i might have been killed by oncoming traffic. vehicle would not re-start so i disconnected the negative battery cable, waited a few minutes and re-connected it and then the vehicle re-started but ran very rough. i proceeded along the shoulder to try and get off the highway, but the vehicle shut down again. i repeated the same process and it again re-started and i managed to drive home on back roads at 40 mph. this has happened on at least three other occasions, but the incidents occurred many months apart, which made me think it was a one-off situation. i have since researched this issue on the internet and have learned that many other people have had this happen to them. i think this is a tragedy in the making if chrysler does not address this deficiency by issuing an immediate recall. i also request that a chrysler dealership inspect my vehicle at no cost to me. your prompt response to this urgent matter will be greatly appreciated.

The vehicle shut off without warning while driving 65 mph. lost control hit side truck try restart but won crank or anything head lights and everthing is normal just won crank again

Engine does not start sometimes, have had recalled ignition put in already. then it stalled on highway, had it towed to mechanic, couldn't get it jumped. he took off serpentine belt and showed us engine was locked up. it has a 5.7 hemi in it. i get all fluids changed when i'm supposed to. change oil and filter religiously with best oil and filter available . mechanic even said all fluids looked great. he can't understand it. this vehicle has had numerous problems, from leaking weepholes in son roof to drivetrain, not wanting to start and stalling when ever to now a seized engine!

Takata recall i was driving along as normal on the city street with minimal and my vehicle cut off on its own. it will not turn over or even try to turn over.

Takata recall about a month ago i was traveling at 70mph on the interstate. when exiting the interstate my car just shut it's self off. no warning lights, sounds, etc. we tried for about 20 mins to get it to start back and stay running once running we took it straight to a mechanic who put it on a machine. no problems showed up on the machine at all and it's been fine ever since until today. this time my husband was driving and the exact same thing happened again.

The 2007 jeep commander i own is having a fuel pump relay issue.it will not start but continuously turns over also we have had the car stall out on the highway at high speeds making it a rather dangerous situation. many of the vehicles from 07 and up had a recall for this exact reason but unfortunately mine was not covered under this recall. i am certain that this is my issue but the manufacturer has refused to do anything to fix the problem without paying an arm and a leg.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled and the oil pressure warning indicator illuminated. the contact switched into neutral and restarted the vehicle normally. the contact also stated that the failure occurred two other times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 113,900.

2007 jeep commander with 112,000 est miles, bought used in ak 2016. a week after i bought it i kept having o2 sensor codes pop up. i have had all sensors replaced more than once and numerous other parts with the latest being the catalytic converter. i have spent several thousands of dollars trying to solve this issue. today was my breaking point, i was driving on i-24 to nashville to take my son to an appointment at vanderbilt. it was raining this morning, all of a sudden the red lighting bolt and other lights came on. my jeep lost power, the brakes didn't work, the steering locked up and i was scared i was going to get hit. i put my hazards on and was able to get across 2 lanes of traffic to the shoulder. i shut the jeep off and turned it back on and it was normal again with just the check engine light on. i was so scared to drive back to clarksville, fearing that it would happen again. i saw that i am not the only one who has had this issue. i called corporate and they said there is nothing really they can do. i said what is it going take, someone, dying or getting into a wreck?? i am disappointed in how this has been handled. my latest carfax shows that this jeep has had the same issues over and over, with nothing really getting resolved.

While driving at 60 mph on the highway, my jeep has jolted like it had lost power for a brief moment. the jolt was severe enough that it made my arms ache from it. this worries me as i have read many complaints about complete stalls at high speeds and this could cause a severe accident. my jeep has 150,000 miles on it. this issue needs to be investigated before there is a fatality.

Jeep shuts down while drive down road, jeep restarts without issue, and will run without problems. this has been the 11th time this has happens, this time i was also rear ended by a semi truck. i have had this looked at from dodge many times over the years, but they can't seem to find the issue,or don't care too. but to there def fence it only happens ever so often.

Vehicle shutting off when stalling or at a stop driving down a city street with vehicles behind me. idleing high when turning on or driving. just had some thing fixed and issue still not resolved seems to be ecm/pcm possibly. some sort of water entrance unsure where from had windshield reinstalled and i still get puddles on my driver and passenger feet. back set belts keep braking was told this is a defect when seats are layed down seat buckles break and need to be replaced which is a safety issue with my children since i have 4 and need these to be functional they have been replaced 3 times and am now told it's a defect.

It keeps shutting off and almost caused me an accident with my child in the car several times. and at times seem to stear all over the road when on a highway.

I have own this car for 5 years and it did shut down on me due to i did hit the ingestion switch with my knee as we were going down the interstate. a couple years go after that with no issue. now my 17 year old girl drives it now with no issue. got recall littler ignition switch replacement. got switch replaced and one for a re-flash on the power train. now after that it has stalled out on my daughter 2 times a mouth apart when stop to make a turn going to school. took to the dealer and they said it was a faulty front control module and only going off of stored codes b211e & b211a and don't know how many counts or how old they are. the service writer could not tell me that is a fix and the tech said that is what it need . i took the car home and i can not find these codes anywhere online. i did find a lot of complaints of this same thing and the fcm has been replaced with many other sensors and they still have the same issue. so that my have saved me over $500 that may or may not fix it.. i the parent am driving the car now till i can this figured out. if there are updated resolving this issue with the same problem please advise. don't what to just throw away money on parts that is not on me but more of a safety issue on the jeep company end that needs to fix this. thanks for your time.

There was a valve seat that fell out of the head which caused major internal damage to the motor. this motor only had 120k miles on it and did not have any other issues. when this happened the vehicle had been driven for approximately 20 minutes, shut off and then when it was started again it had the issue.

My front differential is broken and i have no idea how it broke. it could potentially be as simple as wear and tear on the vehicle, as it is 10 years old. however, the problem is extremely dangerous and can result in loss of control and/or a crash.

Vehicle completely shut down on freeway due to recall causing anxiety, fear of life and potential accident on major highway. the ignition switch on your vehicle may experience an unintended change in ignition switch position while driving. this may result in a loss of engine power, power steering assist, power brake assist or disable the airbag function. disabling one or more of the vehicle's safety features could increase the risk of vehicle occupant injury during a crash and/or cause a crash without warning

While attempting to start the jeep, the engine keeps turning over while the motor will not start. does it randomly.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle lost power and shut down. the vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and restarted, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where twelve warning codes were produced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure was not remedied. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that the vehicle shut off without warning while driving 65 mph. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. the failure also occurred while the vehicle was at a red light. gator chrysler dodge jeep ram (840 s harbor city blvd, melbourne, fl 32901, (877) 707-5664) was able to duplicate the failure, but could not determine the cause. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 75,000.

For a number of years now i intermittently receive a "transmission over temp" message in my dash and the car won't start for about 24 hours later. this usually happens after a good rain. i will drive to somewhere and then park for about 10 minutes. when i try to start the vehicle, it doesn't start until about 24 hours later. i replaced the battery and still have the same issue. auto shops were not able to fix this issue and no one seems to have a clue how to fix this. right now the vehicle is unreliable as if i go somewhere there is a risk that i will be stranded.

My 2007 jeep commander is stalling and shutting off while in park and while driving regardless of speed. it has been diagnosed at a jeep dealership and they say the fuel pump is bad though are unsure if that will fix the problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that the engine stalled numerous times, while the contact drove at various speeds. the engine light illuminated while the failure occurred. the contact was able to coast onto the road shoulder and was able to restart the engine. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic whom performed a diagnostic which was unable to locate a failure code. the contact stated that the mechanic phone number and address was not available. the contact also wanted to advise that after nhtsa campaign number: 14v567000 (electrical system) was performed by barnett jeep dealer in white bary lake minnesota, phone number: 651-482-6100, the failure reoccurred but the vehicle was not taken back to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000. ...updated 10/19/17 *bf the consumer stated the vehicle was diagnosed no codes ould be found. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired according to a recall for the final drive module, which was reprogrammed and re-flashed. after the repair and driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle would downshift without warning, which caused the final drive module to overheat. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the final drive module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue and opened a case regarding the failure; however, a decision of the repair was not finalized. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

The battery light came on close to my home i continue to drive and when i open the hood the alternator was smoking and smelled like it was burning it was so hard it almost caught on fire there was no flame but there was lots of smoke

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the rear axle of the vehicle was leaking oil. the certified mechanic stated that the entire rear axle and the sensor for the fuel needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not able to be driven. the dealer performed all the oil changes, but never informed the contact that the vehicle was experiencing an oil leak. the contact informed the dealer of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 112,000.

It is the second time this happens to us when on a highway. the first time my husband was driving and we have our child with us. we thought it was a part of the latest recall we received in the mail regarding the key ignition. this time i was driving on a highway, going about 60-65 mph when the engine light came on, i starting losing power, tachometer starting going down and the accelerator pedal was completely unresponsive and significantly hard to push down on it, the speed continued to go down as i was trying to get to the shoulder as fast as i could but with an unresponsive engine it was very difficult. it was also difficult to move the steering wheel as this got harden. i managed to pull over on the shoulder and had to turn the engine off. after waiting 10-15 minutes, i turned the engine back on and was able to get to my destination which was not far from where i had to pull over. the engine light is still on and i'm afraid this would happen again next time i drive my vehicle which is every day. this was not a pleasant experience at all and it is very frightening when you are on a highway and all of the sudden have no control of your vehicle, it is definitely not safe at all. this jeep has gone through all the recalls that i have gotten in the mail.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road. after an hour, the vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. the failure recurred three times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. on a separate occassion, there was extremely low engine power and an unusual noise emitted outside of the vehicle when driving. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start and was towed to the dealer. the dealer diagnosed that moisture was entering a protector seal to the module in the rear passenger side fender. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 93,360.

While driving my 2007 jeep commander, it will shut off. other times the lights will flicker off and car seems to stall. this problem happens without any warning. it is very scary to be driving on the interstate and the car just stops!!! i have four children that i drive around, so this can not happen! i have read where there have been many complaints about this and nothing has been done. that is unacceptable because lives are at risk. i'm taking the vehicle in for the ignition switch recall, but i have read where that has not fixed the issue i am having.

I have a 2007 jeep same engine and trans, it is doing same think as the 2006 recall is expressing. all i get from dealer is they can find nothing wrong. i can't get them to help me with anything. if you search the web you will see this is a big issue on the 2007 jeeps also. i was very close to getting into a crash today. this is the 4th time it has happened. recall number: 08v203000recall date: 05/06/2008 component: power train:automatic transmission:control module (tcm, pcm) problem summary: chrysler is recalling 24,461 my 2006 jeep commander vehicles equipped with 4.7l v8 engines. the powertrain control module (pcm) was programmed with software that may allow the engine to stall under certain operating conditions. consequence: this could cause a crash without warning. what owners should do: dealers will reprogram the pcm software in all 4.7l engine equipped my 2006 jeep commanders built prior to january 11, 2006. the recall began on may 19, 2008. owners may contact chrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

I purchased my jeep in april of this year. the 1st week i had it, it seemed to be be loosing power so i put it in the shop to have it repaired. this went on for several months. the jeep stopped several times while i would be driving on the highway with my children. despite the many advances of putting it in the shop, the problem never seemed to get fixed. about 3 weeks ago, i was on the highway with my 3 year old daughter and my boyfriend when it lost power to the point it shut off again. thank god we all were able to safely make it out the jeep without beimg injured. i had it towed to the repair shop were i was told my motor locked up. when i asked the mechanic how was that possible he said he had never seen anything like this happen before. it had oil and it wasn't running hot at all. it never ran hot at any point actually. when he checked, he found the jeep didn't have any coolant but could not give reason to why this happened. i contacted several jeep dealerships that told me that never hadn't never been any recall on my jeep but i found several things on the internet stating that the engine and coolant system a on my vehicle had been an issue with other jeep owners same year; make and model of my vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled. the vehicle was able to restart. the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part to do repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure mileage was 122,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was able to restart after a few times. the contact stated that the failure was recurring. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 13,249.

While driving the car would just shut off at random losing brakes, steering and engine power as well as other comfort features. it has happened on at least 6 occasions, usually you could just shift to neutral while driving and restart the car fixing the issues. today however it happened will switching lanes to the center turn lane. upon applying the brakes to wait to turn left the pedal went to the floor, then on the second depress it was super stiff and very little braking force applied. this caused the jeep to rear end the 2 other cars waiting to turn left. the airbags didn't deploy either.

Vehicle failed to start. all lights, gauges, etc. were operational. failed to engage starter. towed to repair facility. vehicle was diagnosed with a faulty power control module. repair shop reported that due to numerous issues with the module across the county, the replacement part is currently not available and may take up to a week or longer before the part is available. apparently, this is a common fault in these vehicles and renders our vehicle inoperable for an unacceptable length of time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact received a recall notification for the engine; however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. the vin was not available.

I drove 2 miles away from my house and parked and turned off the car. 2 hours later i went to turn on the car to go back to home and it wouldn't start. on the dash it said transmission over temp. after i kept trying for a few minutes it finally turned on. i got home and turned it off. after a hour i tried again and again it wouldn't turn on. kept trying it turned on, i went to auto zone to get it checked and starter, engine and alternater great. called several mechanics and they couldn't tell me anything, they'd never heard of it. online there's hundreds of people with the same problem. jeeps already loosing a bunch of customers, i don't want to be one of them. i love my jeep so please figure out what the problem is. thanks

My jeep has been giving me problems. i drove it to birmingham, ala for 3 trips and the gas mileage declined each time ( 19-17-13) mile to the gallon. the jeep also started shaking and trying to stop, especially when stopped at a red light and standing still. i took the jeep to chris myers in daphne, al to see what the problem was. i left it for 2 days and gave them complaints of smelling gas when starting the engine, shaking at idle, and low gas mileage. they did the diagnostic check and found multiple cyl misfire. found spark plugs fouled and trash in the fuel rail. they replaced spark plugs & cleaned fuel rail. it was $607.12. i drove the jeep home and several days later it did the same thing, stopping when at regular speed almost having an accident. i called the manager he stated to bring it back & would recheck it, but i would have to pay for repairs. he also stated it was the fuel i was using, i have a truck which uses the same gas & have no problem with it. could they not find the problem . i did not take it back because they were rude and i live 30 miles from the dealer. i did not feel safe driving the jeep. the engine light came on and i took the jeep to a local auto mechanic & after the test he found 2 of the o2 sensors were clogged, probably from the fuel line being cleaned. he repaired this, the jeep still ran poorly and stopping when at idle speed. he checked the computer and found it was not working properly. he kept the jeep for about a week and told me he would not let it go because he felt it was unsafe to drive, until all was properly working .i think i was ripped off by the first job since it was not working properly wen the first job was done. i think i should have a refund on the first job. i did not have a warranty because when the extended warranty ran i called chris myers 3-4 times and did not get call back from them ...

The car stops when it wants rather if i'm in traffic, stop sign, red light, or interstate.. the wheel and the brakes will lock up. i've been calling chrysler the 1800 number and local dealerships such as picayune ms and slidell la about the situation but nobody seems to care!!! they said the parts isn't in and that its the ignition switch so i payed out of my pockets for the ignition switch and got it put on with the money that i didn't have to spare but obviously that wasn't the problem.. now my car engine is making raggling and tractor noises. barely want to start.. basically i don't have transportation to or from work and school for the fall!!!!!!!!! thanks a lot chrysler...

The 1st incident happened at 7:45am while i was stopped in a line of traffic heading to work. i went to press the gas and nothing happened. i put my car in park and turned the key and the engine cranked up fine. it was as though the key switched back to accessory bc no check engine light, no bells, alerts nothing - and my stereo still played and my headlights were still on. incident 2 happened at 8:00pm while back out of a parking space. the engine again turned off and headlights still worked, but not breaks or steering. pushed key forward and vehicle cranked up again. i called palmer dodge and they said it sounds like a faulty ignition switch, which has been recalled on my model of jeep, but they were not doing repairs for the recall bc chrysler hasn't issued the parts. therefore, if i get it fixed now, i will have to pay for it and then hope chrysler will reimburse me when the parts are available. they want me to continue to drive my vehicle which could shut off while i'm doing 80 mph down a highway for the nect 5 months? i have to pay for a part they have already recalled bc it's not openly available to everyone yet? *tr
