I am writing to express my concern regarding an engine problem with my 2007 jeep commander, that causes the engine to stall, and all power to shut down and the engine to completely shut off. while at first this problem was simply an inconvenience, i soon learned how dangerous this problem actually is. i was on a highway and i went to pass another car, mid-pass my engine stalled and i lost all power with another car coming at me head-on. thankfully the other car was able to stop and we avoided a head-on collision at highway speed, but the outcome could have been very different. the stalling has been an ongoing issue with my jeep now for at least two years, with no resolution to the problem in sight. i have followed all suggestions like not having a key chain and only using he key in my ignition with no change in the frequency of the stalling. it seems a bit ridiculous that there has been no solution to this very dangerous problem. a case was opened by chrysler in january regarding my 2007 jeep commander stalling without warning. the stalling continues to be a very dangerous and unpredictable problem for me. in my last communication i was assured that my jeep would be fixed when the part became available, i have heard nothing since january. not only am i concerned about the safety of myself and others when i drive my car, i am also concerned about the additional stress this flaw in manufacturing is putting on the engine of my car. its extremely fortunate that no one has been seriously injured due to the stalling problem to date, but i fear it is just a matter of time until someones car stalls at the wrong moment and they are unable to avoid tragedy. im hoping someone can help we get resolution to this dangerous issue as chrysler has done nothing so far.

While coasting at approx 40mph, vehicle shuts down, no dashboard lights, while rolling i shift into neutral and am able to re-start vehicle. currently at dealer. they can't find problem, no codes. on jeep forums this is sadly a popular topic. *tr

I have had to return this car several times. too many times to be exact. *tr

While driving down the street at approximately 25 miles an hour, the vehicle stalled it was towed to my home because it would not restart at the time. we had a mechanic do a spot check for blown fuses and battery/alternator issues, but no issue was found. the vehicle restarted the next morning. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and jerked violently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed and needed to be replaced. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 148,000. parts distribution disconnect.

My jeep has been stalling out at random times while driving. today it stalled twice while moving. it always starts right back up with no warning lights. most of the times it stalls sitting at a light. once it stalled going 65mph on the highway and started right back up by its self. the other day it stalled and it started back up then a few miles down the road the information center beeped and had a warning saying check gauges. the temperature gauge was on cold and it should have been in the middle (normal) because i had been driving for a little bit. i drove it to work and called the jeep dealership to schedule an appointment for after work that day. at the end of the day when i started it up to take it to the dealership the warning "check gauges" was gone. i told the service rep at the dealership what had happened and that its been stalling out. they called the next day and said they couldn't find anything wrong. i drive the car everyday and there is some very wrong with the car. i don't feel safe driving my children in it and we don't take it on the highway now. i wouldn't feel right trading it in and giving someone else the death trap. besides the concern for my families safety, i'm wondering if an accident was caused because my car stalled out how would i be able to prove that it was because the car stalled when the dealership is saying there's nothing wrong. please look into this issue because chrysler seems to not be concerned. *tr

While driving on an interstate at 65mph my check engine light came on, a message stating "service parking assist system" appeared, and drnp was blocked on the front dash. the vehicle lost power and acceleration and began to feel as if the emergency brake was applied at full force. i pulled off the highway, turned the car off and back on and the check engine light remains on. online research suggests this is a common problem involving the electronic shifting module and/or connection issues with the rear parking assist sensors. this pervasive problem should be rectified with a recall at no cost to customers. *tr

Just purchased used 2007 commander sport v6 at 58458 miles... drove it on vacation from detroit to wilmington, nc approx. 900 miles. trip went without incident until we drove down to see the ocean turned off the car, walked along the beach for about a half an hour, came back to the car, turned the ignition and absolutely nothing. however, all the electrical components seem to be functioning except the starter. at the dealer now and waiting to see what they tell me. i spent 25 plus years working in dealerships, mostly chrysler, not as a mechanic but i had my fair share of exposure to the service department. signed, stranded in nc *tr

Car suddenly went into limp home mode and wouldn't go over 30 mph. check engine light came on. dealer replaced transmission shift module. warranty wouldn't cover it because it was external to the transmission. 6 weeks later it happened again, dealer said it was a bad ground. 1 year and 5 days later it happened again and took it to a different dealer and was told there was a firmware upgrade which they performed. 1 week later it happened again. this time on the freeway. error indicated improper gear ratio selected. *tr

Vehicle stalled in the middle of highway traffic. warning on dash states "service park assist system". *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving at various speeds on several occasions, the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact mentioned that it took several attempts to start the vehicle. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system); however, the part needed to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

The car has been stalling over the past 4 months. normally the stalling has occurred when the car was idling. last week the car did the same thing but at a much higher rate of speed (60 mph). the car shut off and i lost power steering. multiple lights have been coming in the dash over the past few months and my automatic windshield wipers have stopped working. also, my automatic gate opener sometimes just will not work. there are similar issues with 2006 and 2008 vehicles and both of those have recalls, but i noticed that the 2007 does not. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that his knee encountered the ignition key causing it to release from the ignition and the vehicle to stall. on one occasion, the failure caused a minor crash but no further information was available on the incident. the failure occurred on numerous occasions. the contact received nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the failure was not related to the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 59,000.

I've been having a problem with my 07 jeep commander ill be driving on road and for no reason it will just turn off this im my primary car and i have a new born baby i would hate to get a phone call that they have been in a accident there has to be a recall on this right away this is the 3rd time it has happen please help. *tr

Shortly after the purchase in december of 2012, we experienced an issue where the engine stopped running or seemed to stall out. after a few minutes of investigation we realized that our knees were in perfect range to hit the key fob/chain and figured out that the ignition had been turned to the accessory position. the vehicle immediately started after we figured this out. this has happened a combined 6 times between both drivers of the vehicle, one who is 5'1" and the other who is 5'8" tall. unfortunately exact dates for all occurrences are unavailable or would be rough estimates, but has occurred as recently as april 10 2014. we didn't realize that we could file a complaint regarding this issue until just recently when searching for recalls for this vehicle, otherwise we would have done so in the past. *tr

My 2007 jeep commander vehicle had problems with idling and stalling, car would cutoff while driving between 35-60 miles and as well during idling. this had been an on going problem since 2010 though 2012 and then some time before. i officially for the record file this complaint understanding that many jeep owners had this same problem many times over although the chrysler corporation never did a recall regarding this problem pertaining to 2006-2008 jeep vehicles which was and is such a disservice to the consumers. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the contact merged to the shoulder and was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician advised that the electronic shift module would have to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that the vehicle had been parked for awhile and failed to start. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) and stated that the part needed for the repair was not available. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000. parts distribution disconnect.

While driving on the highway around 50-55mph the engine shuts down with no warning. there will be some slight hesitation as the dashboard lights up and all power is lost. have been able to coast over to the side of the road before coming to a complete stop where i can then turn the car off. this has happened 4 times now and can be potentially very hazardous. i am able to restart the car immediately and be back on my way with no problem. has been happening once every week or so. have taken truck to the dealership twice where they tell me they can not duplicate the problem and they do not now what is causing it. *tr

I was driving home from picking up my daughter from a school event when suddenly my car slowed down on its own down to 10 mph. then the car completely stopped. on the control console it only read "service park assist" and the drive position controls where all highlighted and boxed out (drnp). i lost all control of the vehicle other than turning the wheel. i tried to accelerate by pressing the gas and it just revved the engine and did nothing else. i swerved off the road and hit a median that took out the tire and left damage to the left of the car under carriage. i had to shift the gear into park and back to drive in order for the car to start up again. i took the car to a local jeep chrysler dodge service depot and had it ran for a diagnostic for at which time they told me that it was a common issue found in this model and earlier models and that it wasn't covered by the power train that the vehicle would need $1100.00 in repairs to fix an electronic transformer shift modulator. i had just purchased the car on october 31 from a jeep chrysler dodge dealership and less than three weeks later the car is for crap. and the dealership refused to fix the problem and jeep has not issued a recall for this issue but they have for the 2006 model. this problem is life threatening. it can occur at anytime at any speed. if i were on a expressway my children and i would probably be dead. jeep needs to be pursed for this issue and forced to fix the damage on any vehicles reporting this issue. you can also refer to claims 10379415 10381239. there are also hundreds more complaints online at sites like jeepcommander.com. *tr

I purchased in november 2012 and ever since with each rain storm my interior floods and it is starting to affect electronics. i have service 4wd system after n23 recall and vehicle won't shift into 4 lo. i have service park assist and tpms warning and had all four sensors replaced with warning recurring. i recently started losing all four door speakers intermittently and when they do work they sound horrible. display on radio is starting to go black and dim. i have lights on dash display flash on and off when they want. i have crazy rpm fluctuation at idle and recently transmission feels like it is trying to shift and rpm fluctuations when cruising at hwy speeds. i have bumped the key on multiple occasions and the vehicle is essentially shut off and still moving. most problems have just recently begun and haven't taken to dealer yet but after reading about many of the same problems and jeep not owning up to any of them, i don't have the money to chase phantom problems that the dealer can't recreate and change parts and hope it fixes the problem. i don't feel safe driving the vehicle and have to dry the vehicle out after every rain. i am about to have to write it off as a loss and buy a new vehicle which will not be a jeep. i guess hundreds of people will have to die for jeep to man up and admit they made a terrible unsafe vehicle and quit making their customers pay for their mistake. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while driving at approximately 25 mph, the engine stalled. the vehicle was able to restart after three attempts. the failure recurred numerous times. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the gear shift needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the contact received a notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system) however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.

After a schedule tune up, where two coil packs were replaced, and a pcm software update was performed our 2007 jeep commander began stalling at slow speeds. usually under 20 mph or at a stop when the engine is at or near idle speeds, the engine will obruptly stall without warning. there is no check engine light and no error code. our local jeep dealer has made several repair attempts including replacing the pcm, and shielding the engine wiring harness with aluminum foil. the problem continues. the key must be cycled to the 'off' position to restart the engine. the engine has stalled at high speeds a few times making for a very dangerous situation. *tr

This has happened to me. i am a mother, wife , daughter. the bad thing of this situation is that i had this replaced once before i had 31,505 miles on it and the ems electric transmission shift module had to be replaced . 4 yrs later mileage at 82,000 miles the same part has to be replaced. i have contacted chrysler and all they can say we are sorry there is nothing i can do for you. this part is no longer under warranty and informed that the part (68021352) was not included in a recall. this malfunctions has caused me to no longer feel safe in my car. i don't want to drive my car with my daughter in it. with out warning this has happened one to many times. this part should be recalled when i had the vehicle serviced back in 2008 i paid 100.00 now today when i had it repaired it cost 1000.00. funny isn't it that over 4 yrs this part has doubled in price. and the mechanic at chrysler says to me oh yeah i've seen this alot on this model. *tr

Problem started with vehicle losing power on acceleration from dead stop. it did that twice before the "check engine" light came on as i was pulling out into heavy traffic. immediately took it to garage which determined code were u0404 (implausible data received from esm), p0607 (ecu internal performance) and b1a28 (ecm mismatch with skm). dealers had two shifter/esm assemblies in stock. that tells me this is a common problem as i have read on the internet that it is. this vehicle is pampered and only driven about 5k per year, mostly when i got to our hunting camp up state. repair cost $1,130.99. chrysler needs to pony up with a recall and fix this issue without cost as well as reimburse those of us who have already paid to have the defect fixed. someone could be injured or killed as a result of this defect. *tr

the service park assist light will come on and them all the gear indicators on instrument panel will light up and vehicle stall when driving and lose all power. this has happened multiple of times at different speeds. scan code only shows electronic shift module (esm) is bad. my wife was pulling onto the highway from a side road one of the times the vehicle stalled and was almost hit by several cars. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. while the vehicle was in the reverse position, the key was removed without the ignition being turned to the off position. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the key failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the contact was made aware that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v438000 (electrical system). the failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that after the vehicle was refueled, the engine could not be started. the vehicle was towed to the dealer. the dealer replaced the battery but the failure was not corrected. the vehicle made a wining noise and the electrical warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who performed a diagnostic and located the failure at the alternator. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 91,005.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that while traveling 45 mph the vehicle stalled and the check engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact stated that the vehicle had had some electrical glitches, but had never stalled before. the vehicle was not inspected. the failure mileage and current mileages were 80,000.

While driving down the road the jeep shut off, complete loss of power, brakes and steering then after a few seconds turned back on. this had happened 4 times within 10 mile. this is not the first time that this has happened. i had taken it to the dealership so they could plug it into their computer. the results were negative and could not find any problems. searching online, there are several other jeep owners that are having the same problem. there needs to be a recall on these vehicles before someone gets hurt or killed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that when driving at low speeds below 10 mph, the vehicle would suddenly stall. the failure occurred on multiple occasions. in addition, the contact indicated that the transmission over temperature warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who indicated that a faulty starter caused the failure. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and was informed that the vehicle was not included in the nhtsa campaign number: 08v20300 (power train). the failure mileage was 60,000.

The first time it happened i was driving down interstate going about 75 mph. all of a sudden the car jerked and everything shut down for about a second but the car kept going. cruise shut off and there was a "ding". just like what would happen if it just died for a second. then, my son was driving the vehicle and it did the same thing except this time it completely died. it has happened many times since and dying completely around 6-7 times. doesn't matter if you're going 25 or 75. it can happen whenever. one of the times my daughter was driving on interstate and it completely stopped. she was in the left lane with a diesel in the right lane. she ended up stuck in the ditch. thankfully no accident or injuries. have had 3 mechanics look at it and still don't know what is wrong with it. *tr

On multiple occasions my 2007 jeep commander with 4.7 liter v8 has stalled without warning. it has happened at idle, while slowing, while accelerating, and while driving at freeway speeds (60-70 mph). each time it has restarted after taking the transmission out of gear, turning the key to the off position, and restarting the engine. this is potentially very dangerous if it happens under the wrong circumstances since you, of course, unexpectedly lose power assist on both brakes and steering when the engine dies. *tr

While driving 70mph down the highway, my car suddenly stalled. i was forced to make an emergency stop on the shoulder of the highway. unlucky for me, where my car decided to stall was near the off ramp of the highway, under a bridge. it was quite a dangerous position to be in. the jeep dealership decided that it was a throttle positioning sensor. several months later and my car is randomly stalling again and the dealership does not understand why. i've had my shift assembly fully replaced as well as a new starter. i don't understand the issues that i am facing and why so little is known by the jeep dealership when this suv has been out for several years now. *tr

While driving 65 mph on the interstate, vehicle lost power. dash display message appeared "service park assist system" and vehicle gear display indicated the p r n d were all illuminated. the engine stayed running but would not respond to the gas pedal, decelerating. turned on hazard lights and pulled over, placed vehicle in park, shifted to drive, and continued as normal. a short time later, the check engine light came on. the problem is intermittent, and has happened many times since then and in many different driving situations. for example, after pulling into traffic on a highway, the vehicle would not accelerate, causing the traffic behind to nearly slam into us. if acceleration had been available as normal, this would not have been an issue. another example, the problem happened during heavy rush hour interstate traffic, causing the need to cross several lanes to reach a breakdown lane. it has happened immediately upon starting the vehicle and after the vehicle has been running normally for a long time. it is very unpredictable. the vehicle is dangerous and cannot be trusted to provide power or acceleration when it is needed. private shop checked the fault codes and replaced the transmission control module which did not fix the problem. internet research shows this exact problem with these exact symptoms is common and widespread in the 2007 jeep commander and appears to indicate a faulty electronic shifter module. chrysler response to the problem is hit and miss, some dealers acknowledging they have seen this before, others claiming they have never seen it and the problem is isolated and not widespread. there needs to be a safety recall on this dangerous issue before someone is hurt or killed, if they have not already. we used this vehicle to transport our children and now we can't even trust it to safely get us to the shop to have it repaired. *tr

The vehicle will stall while driving suddenly and has choked and lunged forward while stopped. this is scary'. i don't want to hurt anyone and i have never had to file an insurance claim due to an accident. i don't know what is happening with this jeep. i have taken it to the dealer for diagnosis and they found no problem. i contacted jeep in hopes there was a recall for this problem. i love the vehicle, but scared to take this risk of an accident and possible death or destruction of property due to no fault of mine. i'm really scared to drive this thing but can't afford to replace it right now......what the do i do? *jb updated 07/19/12

I'm driving a vehicle that should have been recalled along with other vins of it's make. it has stalling issues. it dies going any speed at any time. i've owned it for just over a year and have had the same problem since month one. thousands of dollars in parts including, all sensors, computer, control module and wire harness has been replaced and it is still going on. we have had several crysler reps from detroit down to the dealership its at to look to help find the problem but they've scratched their heads and suggest we just trade it in. we are the 4th owners of this and carfax would suggest that's what the previous owners were told to do just trade it in and let someone else get the death trap. i pay $600 a month for a vehicle i cant drive because its not safe to trade in and letting it go is not an option. crysler is doing nothing to help with this issue and act like they have never had this problem tho jeep forums would suggest other wise. this was a know issue in 06-08 commanders and libertys as well. warranty wont do anything til the dealership can pin point what needs to be replaced and this is why allen samuels has paid for all the parts themselves. they say their out of options theres nothing else they can do but i can't drive an unsafe vehicle with children. *tr

Vehicle has lost all power while driving, engine shuts down, no electrical power and had to coast to a stop. vehicle restarts after turning key to off and then restarting. this has happened twice now, the first time on feb. 20th, 2012 and yesterday mar.10th, 2012. *tr *js

Recently experienced a ." service park assist system " error with total loss of forward momentum at about 15 mph. was able to pull over, place in park and continue going. however engine light is on, so headed to dealer monday. i'm greatly concerned if this happens at high speed and with family in the car. reading complaints, this is highly possible and there appears to be no real solution. help?!! *tr

I had a fearful incident as i was driving on the highway in the passing lane in my 2007 jeep commander going approx. 60 miles per hour. when suddenly my vehicle would not accelerate at all , it remained at 60 miles an hour for about a mile with oncoming traffic on all sides of me. an alert was displayed very quickly stating service parking assist system and my panel highlighted all gears at once. i was able to slow down and get off the highway. i took all the side roads to get home and my jeep began to hesitate like it was going to stall on me. the next day my engine light was on and remained on and left me stalled on the highway . i contacted my dealer to get it in for diagnostic testing and it was determined that the electronic shift module was bad and needs to be replaced. i had purchased the extended warranty and was informed that the module was not a covered part. the estimated price was $1025. *tr

Doesn't accelerate sometimes." service park assist system " appears on the panel. i've had the oxygen sensor replaces and still have the same problems from time to time. i pull into traffic and it won't go. this could very well do harm to my family in the vehicle. i'm worried! *tr

The "prnd" gears lit up with boxes around them - the "service parking assist brake" came on as well.... i could not accelerate at all after the light turned green - had to turn on hazard lights and turn vehicle off and back on - worked fine for 10 minutes or so and then the check engine light came on, it has been on ever since. called the dealership about this they asked me to bring it in for diagnosing, but hesitant because of all the same kind of stories that i have read on this issue. going to have to give in though, this is a major safety concern of mine now... have not seen a recall for this even though someone can certainly have a devastating accident, not willing to take that chance... love my vehicle, but now i hate the aggravation that this is causing.. with all the horror stories with the same sort of issue you would think that jeep would take care of this, i guess that this is why they discontinued the commander? *tr

At various times without warning we lose power to the motor. can not accelerate. engine sputters. happens from dead stop, idling, or without warning driving in city or highway traffic. been looked at by multiple mechanics who are stumped. check engine light is on and sometimes flashes plus almost all dashboard warning lights turn on sometimes. this happened when i first purchased the vehicle and they wound up changing the transmission. *tr

Right after purchasing this car in 10/2011 the jeep would randomly cut off or lose power, not sure if this an electrical issue. due to the randomness of the issue, they could not duplicate the problem when i brought in the car. after going back to the dealership the manger at the time wrote/promised that his establishment (reliable auto) would repair/fix the issue if it occurred again (within a year or 12,000 miles). after a years time the issue still continued, but now i cannot bring it in to be fixed w/out being charged. whenever i pushed down on the pedal to accelerate , the car could not accelerate past 25- 30 mph! this would occur while i was already in motion, or at a light. felt like the car was, "stalling" and the service park assist message would appear. i would try to shift the gear but nothing changed, the car still would not accelerate. this happened on multiple occasions. sometimes the next day the car would drive just fine, other times the problem, "fixed itself" within a few days. every time i took the car in they had a difficult time duplicating the problem. my check engine light would also illuminate but when checked no codes could be found. super frustrating and scary to deal w/ this. in july/aug 2013 the problem got worse when i was involved in an automobile accident. took the commander to chrysler/jeep and they were able to identify an electrical/shiftmodule problem. one of the reps. at jeep told me this been common w/ jeep commanders. before i had the commander, i owned a 2005 jeep grand cherokee, purchased brand new in 2005. great car but had some electrical issues, when on, my headlights would randomly start flashing. in my experience, jeeps look good but come w/ too many issues. Tl* the contact owns a 2007 jeep commander. the contact stated that while driving approximately 75 mph the vehicle stalled without warning. the contact was able to maneuver to the shoulder of the road and restarted the vehicle. the failure was intermittent and with time became progressively worse. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

I purchased a 2007 jeep commander on 1/10/2011.the car has been in the shop 5 times because it stalls while in transit. the car while in drive at various speeds max that i have experienced was 55 mph shuts off. all the electrical, everything turns off. at this point you must hope that the car behind you doesnt hit you, you must put the car in park, turn it back on then put in back in drive whilepraying you do not get hit from behind. this has happened 4 times within the 90 days that i have owned it. i am told that they dont know what it is. i cannot imagine a car that just turns off when it wants to. i am afraid to drive this car. *tr
