Thankfully, after reading a large number of complaints from the same problem as my, we were still in our driveway when the vehicle was put in reverse and started to back out when warning came up to put vehicle in park and then select gear. so put in park and put into drive to pull back into driveway when warning came on to service transmission. vehicle only has 54000 miles on it. reading of a lot of people has this same issue, some while driving on the interstate
Following day vehicle completely shut down while driving on the interstate at 55 mph . dealership contacted and vehicle brought in for inspection. dealer concluded that engine had no oil, although internal indicators failed to advise and showed vehicle had 60% oil life remaining and 3000 miles until scheduled oil change. dealer advised that vehicle is known to burn oil, this has happened to me 3x already. the jeep chereokee manual states oil changes should be done every 8,000 miles. i have been getting my oil changes way before the stated requirement of 8000. there is clearly something wrong with my engine. i have a 10 month baby and i am terrified of driving this vehicle. it randomly shuts down and stalls. iam so scared for my life everytime i drive this vehicle and it is all i have . i bought this car brand new!! my engine is clearly defective and should be replaced.
Vehicle shuts off while driving. happens mostly in the morning and after making a turn. the vehicle has shut off at random times throughout the day and evening. could be a cranking issue as it happens mostly within a half hour of starting. every incident where the vehicle has shut off while driving has been on a street and while accelerating in motion. before shutting off, the engine light will come on and immediately after, will shut off.
While in drive the jeep cherokee sport (premium pkg) car cuts off in street 3x and hwy 4x and engine light turns on. car also loses power/speed while in drive and engine light turns on when making a turn. car loses speed and driver is not able to accelerate while on busy hwy or street.. bought car new with 16 miles on odometer from chrysler jeep dealer. manufacture warranty expired 2 months prior to this problem. mileage 63,000 miles. i have an expensive extended dealer warranty. chrysler jeep dealer says engine will be replaced w/ no deductible and no addl customer cost according to dealer warranty.. oil gaskets blown also with excellent service record at chrysler jeep dealer.. no one should have to purchase an expensive extended warranty on a new car and have to replace an engine for a car under 5 years old. car has one driver 62 yrs old, no accidents no tickets in 15 years this is awful for a 3.25 year old jeep!! car has been at jeep dealership service dept since dec 31, 2019 for engine replacement.
When driving my 2016 jeep cherokee the vehicle has died out completely on me in the middle of driving. while driving there is a ding noise followed by a message on my dash board that says put car in park then switch into gear, when i am already in drive and driving then the car stops and the brakes and steering locks up completely the battery light flashes then the whole dash goes black. then i have to trying turning it over a few times and then it will finally start with no warning lights on or anything after it just locked up and died. this vehicle has died several times on me while turning right, while just driving, and in the middle of intersections. i took it to a mechanic and there is no indication of this happening as far as codes that can be brought up or anything but when he test drove it the same thing happened to him he made a right on 12-31 and the car said put car in park then select a gear then went black and then it took a few times for the car to turn over again, but yet again turning on with no warning lights or anything after, but come to find online this is a serious issue that jeep has not addressed and there seems to be no solution besides being in constant fear that you car is going to die out on you. this is a serious safety issue and needs to be addressed before there are lives taken. i have a two young toddler daughters that i don't feel safe driving in our 2016 jeep cherokee in fear for their lives!
Engine shut off while vehicle in motion with foot on accelerator (traveling ~10mph). . lost power steering and brakes. notice appeared on dashboard about shifter. tried to power engine back on to no avail. waited a couple of minutes and vehicle was able to start again.
Check engine light came on. took the vehicle to local jeep dealership. vehicle has approx. 38,000 miles and the thermostat housing assembly is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced. told by dealership this is a common issue with 2015/2016 cherokees between 30,000 and 40,000 miles. vehicle is no longer under warranty. if this is such a common occurrence, shouldn't this be a recall? if ignored, this could lead to severe engine damage.
Cei p0128 coolant temperature too cold. no overheating issues, temps have remained consistently. came on while driving. thermostat needs replacing in only 4 years from purchase. temps have only been hovering around freezing.
I was driving down the street then went to take a left and my car shut off. i got it to the side of the road and tried to start it,would not start. i then waited a few minutes and tried again and it started luckily i was close to home and called tow truck and they brought it to dealership found out is burning oil only had 35;698 miles and when the car gets down two quarts of oil these cars will shut down with no notice. someone is going to get killed. no dash light comes on.
This issue has happened seven times now in the last month. most recent was on 11/14/2019. while driving (in motion) about 25 mph in residential area, jeep turns off in the middle of the road. error message pops up on dashboard to "shift to p then desired gear" (see photo). i am able to pull over to the side of the road but car has to be turned completely off. it takes a couple of tires to restart the engine. unknown as to why this is happening. took to dealership and they said they could not find any codes and to let them know if problems continues. this is very dangerous as i could have been on a major highway and caused an accident.
I have the 2.4l in my cherokee. the same as other jeep models and i have had the same oil consumption issue that this engine line has. jeep just shut off and had to restart. no warning or lights on dash to indicate low oil. i had just a drop of oil on the dipstick. only drove just over 5000 miles. dealer said its normal to burn oil and fca knows about the issue but will not repair. they say about 70% of the 2.4 are affected across all models. with all the issues i see on forums and social media it seems something should be done before we get to the threshold of unacceptable accidents and death. all maintenance has been done at a fca dealer. hard to believe it just started to burn oil.
Drove car for only 2-3 blocks after sitting 8 hours while at work (first time 11/12/19 - outside temp in the 30's) and the second time overnight in unheated garage (11/23/19 - outside temps in the 30's), while turning right at a stoplight to enter on to a major artery (first time) and a stop-sign to enter onto a residential street (second time) the car shut itself off coming to a complete stop. both times car was not "warmed-up" before driving. contacted a local chrysler/jeep dealer who got us in for check-up 11/27/19 and eventually said the engine oil was below the dipstick and if the oil gets too low the engine will get hot and to prevent engine damage the car will shut down automatically. this has never happened before despite us traveling for the past 4 summers approximately 4000 miles from kansas city to yellowstone national park and back, and the summer of 2018 to yellowstone, seattle and back (total of over 5000 miles and each time not getting another oil change for over another month to 5 months of city driving once we got back home. the last oil change we had before these two incidents referenced above was on july 19, 2019 and the mileage was 53191. the mileage on the car now is 56916. taken into account that we've probably driven about 150 miles since the first incident until right now, that means we're "down" 1 quart/1800 miles. researching "google", there are multiple complaints from other cherokee owners of 2016 or other year models of the same issue. they say jeep feels 1 quart of oil used/1000miles of driving is acceptable. even so, my concern is why my vehicle is suddenly experiencing this power loss and oil usage when for the past 5 years (purchased car 10/31/2015) it has never been an issue. one oil change mileage was over 7500 miles and yet we never had this problem. the oil light has never come on to warn of low oil pressure.
Engine failure while going around a bend. steering completely locked up and breaks were none functional. thank god i was only traveling at approximately 15mhp in town and was able to safely cost out of the way of oncoming traffic. my dashboard said shift to p (park) and then desired gear and the battery light illuminated. i tried to restart in park but jeep would not start. after about 15 minutes my jeep started back up and ran normal. my concern is if i was driving 70mph on the highway with my children in the truck (which i have to do everyday as i work out of town) what would have happened??? would i even be writing this right now? there was no warnings, no lights on, no indication my engine would fail while engaged what so ever. this is a huge safety concern!
2016 jeep cherokee approx. 58,000 miles began shutting down while exiting the parking garage, stalled out several times and steering and all control of the vehicle was lost. took it to the shop and after running diagnostic was told that nothing could be found to be wrong with the vehicle. did not drive the vehicle for a week and when it was driven again began displaying the same problems with complete shut down. after some investigation on this web site and others, i found that this is a common problem with the 2016 jeep cherokee due to the built in kill switch to protect the engine when the oil is low. i checked the oil and it was indeed low. prior to this failure, the vehicle has been well maintained with all recommended oil changes and preventative maintenance. jeep/chryslers solution to the problem-check your oil more often! this vehicle is dangerous-not only to the driver and passengers but to other vehicles on the roads as the vehicle stops with no warning and could cause major accidents and deaths. they need to be taken off of the roadways
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep cherokee. while making a right turn up a hill, the vehicle stalled and "shift to p then to the desired gear" was displayed. the vehicle was pulled over and was able to restart after several attempts. the contact drove home. global jeep (1099 us-22, north plainfield, nj 07060, (908) 200-2536) was called and the contact was waiting for the service manager to call back with a diagnosis. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 60,000.
Making a left turn, engine shut off no power, stated i must be in park to shift warning lights flashing (all kinds). would not restart for about 15 minutes. ran fine prior to this. finally restarted and drove directly to dealership (its only about a mile away). explained what happened they had no clue why this would happen but they checked oil which was very low (which leads me to believe they have seen this issue before). changed oil and so far so good. complaint - why would engine shut off because of that? why would a brand new car with under 30,000 miles burn that much oil? why didn't the indicator tell me there was low oil or low oil pressure? if this thing burns that much oil within the allotted oil change time - may need to look for another vehicle - this is dangerous if the car shuts off on a freeway or in busy traffic.
Around 76k on 2016 jeep cherokee sport engine that messed up going down the interstate, i quickly exited then it shut off and did not want to stay running. now dealership says they don't understand why zero compression in cylinders. i kept oil changed every 3k due to daily miles. it is terrible that the manufacture cannot be held accountable with all of these complaints.
While drive the power shifter messaged appeared, every time i turned the car off the light would go off then while driving would come back on effecting the way the vehicle drove. took to the dealership replace a sensor now my engine is knocking and hard shifting. i kept up on oil changes and other maintenance the care is only at 44k for the miles.
While driving on a highway, my 2016 jeep cherokee suddenly shut off completely. this did not allow me to accelerate, and the car slowed down which i had to pull over on the highway. there was the engine light and the battery light shown on the display. after couple times of attempting to restart the vehicle, i was able to drive it fine to work. this was really dangerous especially with i had no engine problems previously to warn that such thing was going to happen.
Purchased 2106 jeep cherokee in april 2019. had car looked over and oil changed april 19, 2019 @30,141 miles. on 8/14/19 the vehicle stalled while leaving a stop sign. total loss of control of the car. dashboard lights flash and display instructs you to put the car in park. after 3 attempts the car starts. thought it was a fluke. 8/24/19 the same event happens again, except on a busier road. very scary and concerned about being hit from behind. 4 attempts to restart car, finally starts and i drive directly to mechanic. 8/27/19 happens multiple times to mechanic, who agrees this is a very dangerous situation in moving traffic. the computer does not indicate any problem. based on information i had found on line, he checks the oil to find no oil on the dipstick. car is @ 35,242 miles & consumed 4 qts of oil during 5100 miles. i am told that this is way too much oil to be used for this number of miles. the more i poke around on line, i see that many jeep cherokee owners are reporting the same problems. countless that have happened on the highway, which i can't begin to think how deadly that can be. it appears that jeep/chrysler is doing nothing about this problem. they have recalled the 2019 jeep cherokee for this problem. i would also believe this is an environmental problem with excessive amount of oil being burned. i do have receipts from the service garage. please help
Bought this car at 17k miles and now have 50k. 10k before the warranty runs out and dealer will only address this issue if the vehicle will show this issue at the time it is at the dealer. issue is unpredictable. car jerks hard from first to second gear, almost as if you have been rear ended. car has trouble shifting to higher speed upon entering the highway. there is also a pronounced "ticking" noise when engine is running/idle
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep cherokee. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle jerked while shifting between first, second, and third gears, and lost power. in addition, the rpms failed to increase to 2,000 and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the contact disconnected the battery cable, but the failure recurred. the contact used the lpb reader and received code: p0887 (tcm high voltage). the contact called east tennessee dodge chrysler jeep ram (2774 n main st, crossville, tn 38555, (931) 463-3640), but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
My wife's jeep cherokee 2016 while driving 3 times in the last month has stalled while making a slight right turn. the display signals engine, and battery flash and then the car dies with no power instantly. my pregnant wife was commuting during rush hour the last time this happened and this nearly caused her to be rear ended. luckily the driver behind her was paying attention and avoided the collision. now my wife was stuck in traffic with no power for 5 minutes until the car turned back on. after a lot of online research, i found 90 plus complaints about this exact issue. apparently the 2.4 l motor in the 2016 jeep cherokee has a safety feature that causes this stalling based on low oil levels. so this poorly engineered engine burns 1 qt of oil per 1000 miles, this causes your oil to run significantly low before the manufacturers recommended oil service periods. my mechanic inspected the vehicle and has come to the same conclusion, we will have to add 1 qt of oil every thousand miles. this car has less than 36k miles and will now require extra oil for its life, which is ridiculously tedious for a 30k$ car. however the stalling with no warning and causing loss of power in traffic will eventually lead to accidents and should be a significant safety concern.
Vehicle, while in motion, stalls and engine shuts off at any speed. being told oil burns too quickly in these vehicles and this is a safety feature the car has although it has almost cost me multiple serious/potentilly fatal collisions with my infant children in the vehicle. no oil indicator has ever turned on indicating oil level is low. had same issue with this car at 15,000 miles in which engine was completely replaced but now is doing the same thing as before. this is a well documented issue amongst jeeps - why has there not been a recall? this is a major safety concern and our lives and the lives of our children are at risk as i almost was t-boned today as my engine stalled in a busy intersection. i was attempting to turn but had not yet maneuvered and was left stalled in the middle blocking oncoming traffic on a busy city street but had had this same problem happen on a highway.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep cherokee. the contact stated that the check engine and service gear shifter indicators illuminated. the contact called jim ellis toyota of mcdonough (144 highway 81 w, mcdonough, ga 30253, (770) 288-3755) and informed them of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 55,000.
The problem started 7/23/2019. the jeep is stopping randomly at red lights and stop signs. it starts back up but the ac is on defrost and i have to put it back on cool. the first time it did this i read about some reviews that stated it could be because an oil change is needed. since it was time for an oil change, i did that. but the next day it did the same thing, randomly stopping. also changed a dirty air filter. scheduled a diagnostic test for 7/29/19 and will see if jeep can help with this problem.
On 2 separate occasions while in motion on a city street all of the gear shifts lights came on and where you see your mileage that screen read service shifter. this stayed visible until the car was turned off and restarted. the car also jerks while in motion and the brakes where supposed to be fixed last week from the dealership that i purchased the car from but its still feels like the brakes are grinding.
My 2016 jeep cherokee latitude has suddenly turned off twice in the middle of the road while driving. a "shift gear" light warning appears on the dashboard. both times it occured shortly while starting to drive home from work. therefore, occured within 10 minutes of starting the engine. the first time it occured within seconds after turning left at a light.
Bought a 2016 jeep cherokee with 60miles on it within 3 weeks car shut off 3 time while driving with signal shift gear comes on. have to put car in park and turn off car and turn on a few times and it will be fine two months later it happens again this time happening a few time in the same day a few minutes apart. this dangerous because it happens while your driving on the road with no warning.
2016 jeep cherokee limited fwd, misfiring and shaking began while stopped at traffic light and while driving afterwards for 1/2 mile. automatic start/stop was on. pulled off road and turned engine off and let set for 1-hour. restarted vehicle and began shaking and misfiring again. this time engine light came on and start/stop system warning came on. shut vehicle off again and let sit for 30 minutes. started vehicle again and put in reverse, drove for a few minutes and vehicle began shaking and misfiring again while going through the shifting sequence. drove it to a dealership and it did this the entire way, approximately 10 miles. no matter what speed i was driving it was still happening. the shaking/misfiring seemed to subside a little when a/c was not in use. in addition to other warning lights coming on, service-shifter light came on while making a right-hand turn.
While in motion: 2016 jeep cherokee will randomly lose engine power during a right turn (on highway at high speed and at low speed on city street), steering locks up, decelerates automatically, and dash says to put vehicle into manual mode and select the desired gear. this is very dangerous and has almost caused an accident two times.
Vehicle stalls during deceleration into right hand turns. extremely dangerous. hundreds of complaints about the same issue occurring under the same circumstances. dealership is denying any problems exist and cannot duplicate issue. online complaints state that some dealerships stating it is due to low oil and oil consumption is very high and problem can occur even with vehicle maintained to manufacturers specifications. i have been almost rear ended several times due to this issue and chrysler needs to recall these vehicles and make it right no matter the cost. no warning or trouble lights prior to complete loss of power. they just recalled the 2019 models for this very problem but they need to recall prior years experiencing the same issues. this is a serious safety issue especially when entering the highway were cars our traveling at a high rate of speed.
I turned on the car, let it warm up for about 3 minutes. put it in drive, i was on the road for about 5 minutes and all the lights on the dashboard turned on, the car stalled and the motor turned off. the transmission was stuck in drive and i had to forcefully find a way to move it to neutral or park to restart the car. when i checked the fluids on the vehicle everything was ok with the exception of the oil dip stick. all the oil had burned away and i was still about 2000 miles away from next oil change. all my oil changes were done at the jeep dealership where the car was purchased and we used synthetic oil to protect the engine. this is very dangerous that no warning signs are given to the drivers and that the car completely shuts off in the middle of the road. i tried to resolve this issue with the dealership but they said that because there is no recall for this common problem, they cannot resolve it. please help!
Vehicle loses power while driving, engine shuts down, steering locks and the dash lights up with a message that says put vehicle and "park" and then select desired gear. i have two small special needs children. this has happened 3 times in the last two months. i keep my vehicle up to date on maintenance/service. i read over 100 people's exact same complaints on line. it doesn't make sense that i am paying a car payment, have less than 45,000 miles on a less than 3 year old vehicle, and having these kind of safety concerns. we have one vehicle, limited means, and tons of therapy appointments. today, my car died with no warning on a busy road, gives me approximately 10 seconds to pull to safety before there is no speed/ability to manuever the vehicle. it is ridiculous that the risk is so high, and the number of complaints listed on line show a serious issue with this among hundreds of vehicles by jeep and nothing. the dealerships/service continue to make comments like "we were unable to replicate the issue". to be specific: driving at about 25 miles per hour, straight following a right turn....lost power. lights went on the dash, message above appeared. it took two tries to restart to get me out of the middle of the road.
This is the second time my car has shut off while driving in the middle of the road, i had my children in the car checked oil there was none i am not due for another oil change for 500 miles i bought this vehicle brand new only has a little over 19,000 miles i hope this is fixed if not i will be getting rid of this vehicle and will never purchase an jeep product every again. this is very dangerous i will be calling the dealership on monday
My vehicle lost power in the brakes, accelerator and steering wheel. everything locked up while i was driving in traffic. i was able to coast to the side of the road and completely lost the ability to control my vehicle. the car would not function until i turned it off and tried to restart it a few times taking a couple of minutes. this happened twice on may 6th on a busy street, once on may 9th on the highway, and twice on may 11th on another busy street. there was no oil in my car. i was not due for an oil change for another 3 months or 2000 miles. no oil light indicator came on to warn me all my car kept doing was stalling telling me to shift to park. i was told by the jeep dealership that i had to have my car towed in or add oil before driving it to them. the dealer explained when the dipstick does not "feel" oil the entire car essentially shuts down and locks up in order to "protect the engine" causing the driver to lose all ability to control it. they might be protecting the engine from burning oil, but to lose functionality puts my life and family in danger. jeep/chrysler have had this reported before as i found numerous cases of the same story. however no recall have been issued. i could have been in a very serious accident. i was not told any of this information when i purchased the car. i do not understand how many issues have to be reported before something can be done. does someone have to die before this become a concern.
Vehicle stalls and cuts off while driving and steering wheel locked up without warning. no check engine lights on and no explanation. after several times it was found that the engine was completely out of oil. oil consumption test resulted in an engine replacment from scratching on inside cylinder walls. new engine 11-2017. new engine is starting to do the same thing and is burning oil. car will shut off.
Service shifter error on dash board. all lights on gear shifter come on at once p,r, n,d. it only comes on when driving and doesn't go off until the car is turned off. it isn't daily but it's still scary.
Tl* the contact owns a 2016 jeep cherokee. while making a right turn at 20 mph, the engine stalled and "shift to key for park to select the desired gear" appeared on the instument panel. the contact had to make three attempts to start the vehicle and was able to park on the side of the road. the contact called sansone chrysler jeep dodge (located at 100 us highway, us-1, avenel, nj 07001, (866) 809-9999) and a diagnostic appointment was scheduled. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 26,280. *dt
Jeep cherokee begins to experience intermittent hesitation while idle and unresponsive maneuverability during acceleration. ignition coils fail on 2.4l engine with consistency - #4, #2, #3 (3 of 4 ignition coils) causing misfire in engine chamber. lack of control during acceleration / deceleration create high concern for safety while at high speeds and generally while driving.
While driving the vehicle after just a couple minutes in my subdivision the vehicle stalled & would move. i made 2 turns, one right & one left then it stalled. the "charging system light" went on & said "shift to p then desired gear". after a few minutes it restarted. the jeep manual indicated not to drive it with this code so i had it towed to dealer & they did a pcm flash update. they tested the oil level & said it was fine. next morning the vehicle would not start. again towed it to dealer. they kept it overnight & changed the battery. they drove the vehicle, but couldn't get it to replicate what happened & indicated there were no stored codes. the following morning the vehicle started, i began driving around the corner in the subdivision after turning right and again the vehicle just stalled with same indicator light & message as the first time. brought it back to the dealer & they said the oil was low, though the vehicle indicated 47% oil life with about 3,800 miles since last oil change, which was less than 2 months ago. dealer told me to drive it for 1,000 miles & then bring it back so they can do an oil consumption test. very unsafe to drive when it stalls, as the vehicle does not move, it just shuts off & didn't coast so i could move over. this is a safety risk & do not feel safe driving it, if this had happened in traffic or on the highway it could have caused a crash. i was told by the dealer this is a known issue by chrysler & that the vehicle shuts down to protect the engine. there was no previous warning lights or check engine notification prior to it happening.
My vehicle jeep was in motion on the interstate when my service transmission light came on and i almost caused a major accident when my jeep slowed way down. when i accelerated it would hardly move. mind you i was on the interstate!! very scary experience. this is not the first experience i have had with my jeep while in motion on highway it jumps bucks and revs up on its own when it was doing that i had to take it to be hooked up to tester to see why my battery light came on? had to replace coil pack #4 and i did it again 6 months down the road and had to replace coil pack #2. the check engine light stays on. my jeep only has 59064 miles. i am very scared terrified and nervous driving me jeep.
This issues has happened twice once i was at an intersection and the second time i was on the freeway. i am driving with no issues and then all of a sudden the car loses speed. i will go from 70-0mph with in seconds, all the lights will come on on my dash board and i am unable to speed up or even steer out of the way. the second time this happened to me i was in the fast lane on the freeway with my daughter,no cars behind me because i would have been hit with out a question. it sounded as if the car shut down with out actually turning off. i had the car towed to the dealer where they had no explanation for me both times this happened. as soon as they would connect it to diagnose they said the codes would clear and the car was working. both times this has happened and now i am scared every time i drive. now the stereo will not turn on. the screen is on but will not move from the jeep sigh it will flicker on and off but not ever move from there.
Vehicle is less than three years old. maintenance has been done on time. uses oil, thermostat has had to be replaced and service shifter light keeps coming on. spent three hours at the dealership to supposedly fix the shifter issue. one hour later the service shifter light came back on!
My jeep cherokee limited 2016's engine will shut off mid drive. this has happened to me three times while on the road for the past 4 months or so. i fear for my safety and that of my family and friends or whomever may be with me in my vehicle when this happens. the issue begins with the dash starting to flicker, the ac and radio will shut off, any actively enabled functions will shut off/disable (lane sense, cruise control, auto start/stop), two times out of the three, the vehicle engine shuts off seconds after, causing the greatest risk to safety since the vehicle is essentially cruising with no power whatsoever at an average of 70mph (mostly drive on freeways/highways), forcing me to pull over on the side of the road/shoulder in order to break to a full stop, place the vehicle on park and then restart the vehicle in order to get back on the road. i believe jeep had issued a recall for this exact issue if i'm not mistaken (safety recall u63). i have taken my jeep to a local dealership to get this issue fixed. i received the assessment from the dealership saying that the recall issue was fixed. a week after i went to the dealership the issue happened again, the check engine light came on but turned off after so by the time i took it to the dealership again, they "couldn't help me" since the check engine light was not on at the time. i also did not have a way to prove that this issue was happening still to my vehicle so i left disappointed and sure it would happen again at some point. as of today 28 march 2019 the issue happened again yesterday on the way to work around 0836am, luckily i was able to record a video of it as it was happening that i would be happy to share, the vehicle did not shut off during the video. i bought this vehicle new, in 2016, from a dealership in wa state.
Has been back to the dealer 4 times in one year for replacement of spark plugs and ignition coil. car runs rough and shakes. 53000 miles, have had it since it was brand new. feel unsafe driving in it.
While making a turn, the vehicle lost power in the brakes, accelerator and steering wheel. everything locked up while i was going upwards of 25mph. i was able to coast to the side of the road, but completely lost the ability to control my vehicle. the car would not function until i turned it off and tried to restart it a few times taking a couple of minutes. this happened once on the 14th of march and once on the 15th of march. i was told by the jeep dealership that they are aware of the issue and have told people to make sure to check their oil. i was told the dipstick does not reach the bottom of the oil pan and only goes down about halfway (3 of the 6 total quarts the pan holds). when the dipstick does not "feel" oil the entire car essentially shuts down and locks up in order to "protect the engine" causing the driver to lose all ability to control it. they might be protecting the engine from burning oil, but to lose functionality puts my life in danger. jeep/chrysler have had this reported before as i found numerous cases of the same story. however, they refuse to do anything about it. i could have been in a very serious accident if i was going faster than 27mph or if i was not in an area that i was able to coast to the side of the road. i was not told any of this information when i purchased the car
The dip stick only reaching the top 3 quarts of oil.i was told by the jeep dealership that the car engine shuts off mid drive(in motion) to protect the engine even if you are going 70 mph(on the city street, high way, or local road and while turning). this is so the engine does not burn the oil. this means that the car stalls out and looses power and control with no notifcation.
