On feb 6, 2020, i was getting ready for work when i noticed that my jeep had a message appear on the dash board regarding shift shifter. i was pulling out of my apartment complex when my car stopped out of no where my car stopped and the message appear while still on drive. when i looked over the shift shifter, the prnd were all lighten up in red. i has causing traffic and had to get my car towed.
A service shifter soon warning comes on at random and blocks the speedometer while driving. it clears when you turn off the vehicle and will randomly return.
When i start my car, the dash says 'service shifter' and the ' p r n d' all stay lit. this has happened 3 times in the last month/ month and a half. my jeep only has 29,000 miles on it. if i restart my car, it seems to go away for the time being.
'service shifter' message keeps popping up on the dash, accompanied by all gear lights in red. used to stop after powering the vehicle off and on again. i've seen that so many other jeep cherokee owners have experienced this. how is this not a recall? so unfair for those of us outside of a warranty.
Service shifter dashboard message and the p. r. n. d. light up red off and on, three times so far within a six month period what do we do? jeep dealer and headquarters maintains no complains have being filed the problem happens during car moving
The car dashboard keep saying service shifter. this happens after driving anytime on all roads and putting the car in park.
Service shifter message appeared in the center display and is lock in place, not being able to scroll through the menus any longer. next to the shifter all lights for shifter position are illuminated and you cannot see which gear the vehicle is in anymore from looking down at the shifter. this has happened multiple times mostly while in motion but has also happened while stationary. the message including all other indications can go away with a full shutdown.
'service shifter' message came on & all red lights on shifter tree while on the freeway no less! it does happen anywhere. 2016 jeep awd lattitude. they replaced the shifter and wiring harness once already. a few month later it came back on. took it in and they stated that they would not find anything wrong. but it is still coming on.
Approx. 68,000 miles, owned for 3 years, regular maintenance and inspection. vehicle in motion on city streets turns to neutral after the first few right turns. gear shifter automatically shifts to neutral after the car's warning system reads "shift to park" while the vehicle is in drive and in motion. to restart the vehicle, the driver must place the vehicle in park, turn off the engine and restart it, however the battery light flashes. this has happened three times in as many weeks, all while in traffic. when taken to jeep dealership mechanic, no code shows up on obd. after online research, many owners of jeep wranglers, (as well as latitudes) have had this same issue. there is a consensus it may be a result of a poorly implemented failsafe that jeep installed when the engine oil is low. allegedly, on jeeps with certain engines (2.4l) they burn oil at a higher rate than what the onboard computers can gage. it appears that jeep dealerships feign ignorance with this problem. however, when other owners have pressed the jeep corp., they say they may issue a recall if enough people complain. https://www.carcomplaints.com/jeep/cherokee/2019/engine/engine_shut_down.shtml
Service shifter indicator comes on- solid red lights appear on the shifter in every gear. comes on every couple of days. cargurus has several people complaining about experiencing the same problem. dealerships seem to not really know what the real problem is, replacing engines, transmissions, shifters- only to have the problem come back for these folks. clearly, a recall is in order. i am concerned if i take mine in, i will have the same problem as the others, price gouged- with no real solution. here is the link for the feed of problems: https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-t68742_ds947921
About two months ago while driving the car chimed and the message "service shifter" appeared on the screen along with all lights next to shifter to light up red. the vehicle has to turned off and restarted to reset. now the same thing keeps happening. this never happened before the over the air update. extremely irritating and scary the first time it happened thank god i wasn't in an accident like other reports have noted. jeep needs to recall this issue and fix it!!!
This issue has happened seven times now in the last month. most recent was on 11/14/2019. while driving (in motion) about 25 mph in residential area, jeep turns off in the middle of the road. error message pops up on dashboard to "shift to p then desired gear" (see photo). i am able to pull over to the side of the road but car has to be turned completely off. it takes a couple of tires to restart the engine. unknown as to why this is happening. took to dealership and they said they could not find any codes and to let them know if problems continues. this is very dangerous as i could have been on a major highway and caused an accident.
Service shifter comes on and shifter prnd all red lights come on and you can not tell what gear the car is in. it came on once when you shut off the care it went away it sis this twice now it just stays lit. up in red.
Shattered sunroof while going 70-75 mph on highway
Overheats temp goes up to 240 degrees and the shifter keeps acting up. all the lights on the shifter light up in red both keep happening almost weekly.
Jeep only has about 50,000 miles on it and the service shifter light keeps coming on...it illuminates my entire gear shift red and the notification takes away my spedometer
I just purchased the jeep a month ago & it has 43,000 miles. when the jeep is in gear a "service shifter" message pops up on dash. once it pops up you can't see your miles per hour until you pull over, shut the jeep off & restart. i was pulled over & cited for my speed but i had nowhere to pull of the highway to. i feel like it is a huge safety issue. the message only pops up randomly every three or 4 days & everyone i call say they've never heard of this & it nothing comes up when hook up code reader.
Water collects in the spare tire compartment when driving in the rain or going through a carwash. electrical fire possible due to the components being under water. welding issue? refer to nhtsa recall r67. this auto is demonstrating all symptoms but the vin is not included in the recall.
Error message that states: "service shifter"on the dash board and all the lights on the gear shifter box light up
My gear shift keeps lighting up and it tells me service gear shift. when this happens i turn off my car and restart it. the light goes out. this has been happening frequently. the first time i took it in they said that the code needed to be updated, it did not work and i even took it in to the dealership when it happened because i was close by. he just says bring it in. i took it in today and he told me unless they find something when they run it, they will not be able to do any thing to it. this is an on going problem.
Bangs into 2nd or 3rd gear intermittently after a stop or while driving at lower speeds 25-30 mph especially. most erratic in city driving. the jolt is so hard the driver takes notice. the vehicle will hesitate at time from a stop then jump forward like a bat out of hell causing front wheels to spin. at lower speeds in city the vehicle has a delay from engine to transmission causing a jerking motion even when pressing ever so litely on gas peddle. the transmission holds gears aggressively before up shifting, so engine speed hangs high between shifts. the vehicle shifts occasionally immediately into 2nd gear from a stop and then drags it out and clunks into 3rd gear causing untimely shifting. lithia jeep and pelletier jeep both did software updates with marginal improvement or made it worse. also the transmission up shifts to soon often from 1st to 2nd gear. vehicle at times has mind of its own for transmission never really knowing what to making not very predictable and dangerous to drive. the speed control is dangerous and a nightmare. when going downhill it makes transmission go into lower gears causing engine rpm over danger zone. it feels like the engine and transmission are going to explode. the speed control is really hard to predict what it will do! i'm scared to use it! i'm scared to drive this vehicle!
The service shifter came across my dash i pulled over turned my vehicle off, the alert went off. then after starting my vehicle again a different day the message reappeared.
Service shifter while driving city street before 09/07/2019
2016 jeep cherokee trailhawk - ~57,000 miles. driving to work this morning (straight at about 40mph) "service shifter" message came over dashboard screen and red lights lit for park, reverse, neutral, drive. the issue went away after restart and i have not encountered again yet (restarted twice since this morning, once at aaa and once to move it when i was at home). i have an appointment with dealership tomorrow. google search shows this issue to be profound. i'm surprised there is not a recall already but there does not seem to be a consistent answer for why this issue is occurring - hopefully dealership will be able to repair.
While driving my suv twice it decelerated and would not move i couldn't push the gas to make it go faster or anything. when i turned it of and then turned it back on it had trouble starting back up. i took it to my dealership and they said that it was 2 quarts low on oil. i just had an oil change 2 months ago and get the synthetic oil to improve my engines life, i'm not sure for an oil chnage until november 19. my dealership put oil in for me and said that this engine shutting down is a fail safe to protect the engine from being damaged. this experience has been very frightening as both times i was driving on major roadways. my dealership has advised me to come back in and get a oil change and they will seal my oil reservoir components and put a dye pack in and have me come back in after driving 1000 miles. after reading the reviews on this website it appears many others have the same issues which truly frightens me i bought my truck brand new and it on has 32500 miles on it, i hope that some major investigations occur before someone gets seriously hurt or worse.
Car has completely stalled and locked up to a point where the steering wheel cannot be moved, hazard lights will not turn on, cannot change the gear at all. had to have a flat bed tow because the wheels were locked, tow driver had to use dish soap to get the wheels to slide up the ramp. jeep dealership first replaced the battery, then replaced the bcm and it is still a solid brick. they have no idea what is wrong. this has cost me $600 so far without even a repair. my 17 year old daughter is driving this dangerous car. i have seen the forums and this is a common problem with this jeep, it needs a recall. as soon as we can get it running again, we will be trading it in. i can't have her in a death trap, it stalls without warning and we had to put the hood up to warn other drivers because the hazards wouldn't even turn on. this car only has 23000 miles on it, it should really not be doing this.
The car was stopped for a light and completely died, the hazards wouldn't even turn on. the shifter and steering wheel were locked. it would not re-start. we had to call a flat bed tow truck who couldn't even get the wheels to move, he had to use dish soap so the wheels would slide up the ramp. this was extremely dangerous, other cars couldn't even tell there was an issue because the hazards wouldn't turn on. my teenage daughter was driving the car at the time and had to go out in traffic, with cars beeping, yelling and using rude hand gestures at her so she could put the hood up. this car is very dangerous. the dealership replaced the battery, it didn't fix the problem. they replaced the bcm, that didn't fix the problem. we are now without a car but i'd rather no car then have her killed while trying to drive this jeep. there are over 40 complaints of the same problem on car complaints.com and the grande cherokee had a recall for the exact problem, locking up and stalling, this needs a recall before someone gets killed!
When driving my jeep it all of a sudden starts beeping and saying service shifter, then my whole shifter lights up. when i go to put my car in park it reverses about 2 feet back before it parks and even though im not moving my jeep shows my rpm at 1.
Continuous software update message prevented usage of electronic equipment while vehicle is traveling on the road. this results in the operator removing their eyes from the road to deal with what appears to be non-functioning equipment. no simple cancel button was available to prevent this major distraction and safety concern while traveling. update message disables and makes electronic equipment useless until update is installed.
The car was parked. when i started the car, all lights for the gears (p,r,n,d) on the shifter were light up red and service shifter message appeared. i shut off the vehicle and restarted it and the car operated normally. 3 days later, the same thing happened. a search online has shown many jeep owners have had this issue.
1. thermostat state as problem to make engine chug/stall 2. air compressor / clutch unit needed at 61,000. have 75 anniversary jeep and really nothing but problems!! not happy
The service shifter indicator keeps coming on. it comes on when i start the vehicle. at times it will go off when i turn off the car but comes back on after a while.
Takata recall. i turned on engine to my 2016 jeep cherokee latitude 30,000 miles vehicle and a 'service shifter' appeared on the dash screen. the shifter itself were all lid up red. which made it difficult to identify what shift i was currently in and shifters remained all red while the jeep was in drive and in motion. i felt unsafe because i had a toddler in the vehicle and currently pregnant and feel that it's necessary that jeep takes action in solving this matter.
Vehicle's service shifter light remains on and all lights beside gears prnd remain on. occurs at any given time whether the vehicle is in motion or not.
We have had the service shifter message come on several times since we have owned this vehicle dealer reprograms or resets message and stays off for a while then back on. it happens at any time.
Service shifter notification keeps popping up and you must stop vehicle and turn it off and open the door to reset it. apparently there is a plastic piece that goes bad and has to be replaced. this has happened a lot so why is there no recall?
Gear shifter - the "service shifter" appears and all the gear shift lights come on. comes on often. was repaired months ago. now appearing frequently.
The problem started 7/23/2019. the jeep is stopping randomly at red lights and stop signs. it starts back up but the ac is on defrost and i have to put it back on cool. the first time it did this i read about some reviews that stated it could be because an oil change is needed. since it was time for an oil change, i did that. but the next day it did the same thing, randomly stopping. also changed a dirty air filter. scheduled a diagnostic test for 7/29/19 and will see if jeep can help with this problem.
My 2016 jeep cherokee latitude has suddenly turned off twice in the middle of the road while driving. a "shift gear" light warning appears on the dashboard. both times it occured shortly while starting to drive home from work. therefore, occured within 10 minutes of starting the engine. the first time it occured within seconds after turning left at a light.
Bought a 2016 jeep cherokee with 60miles on it within 3 weeks car shut off 3 time while driving with signal shift gear comes on. have to put car in park and turn off car and turn on a few times and it will be fine two months later it happens again this time happening a few time in the same day a few minutes apart. this dangerous because it happens while your driving on the road with no warning.
Service shifter message came up on dash while driving at 60 miles an hour, all lights lit up on shifter. cannot clear message without pulling over and shutting car off, therefore speedo.eter and other car safety information is unavailable. this has been happening on and off for months.
Service shifter light keeps coming on, no codes associated with it.
The shifter service light is coming on. i cut the car back off, took the key out and restarted the car, but the light will come back on after awhile. it was stationary when it first happened. it has done it while driving though.
Turned car ignition on and sat in parking lot. about ten minutes later a shifter service message appeared on display and all lights on gear shift lit up. 2016 jeep cherokee with approximately 34000 miles. i've never seen this message before. message and lights went away after shutting off car and turning back on.
I bought my 2016 jeep cherokee limited new and for the first 100, 000 miles had no problem with it until one day i was driving down highway and my instrument cluster lit up like a christmas tree, the engine hit 5000 rpm at 45 mph and would red line if i went faster, i pulled over and could not shut vehicle off and radio, wipers and everything were going on their own including every warning light possible. after about 20 min idle i decided to disconnect the battery and reconnect and it started back up with engine light remaining on. i took to dealership they weren't sure why all codes were going off but checked and everything was fine and reset the light. a month later it happened again this time at 65mph during a snowfall on the highway but this time the steering wheel locked up i managed to brake and stop on highway with hazard lights on again disconnected battery and took to dealership, they said i needed to replace the computer so at a cost of nearly $2300 i did. no problems after that until it was raining one day and boom instrument panel lights up again, thankfully the steering wheel did not lock again. i take it back and they tell me there is nothing they can do about it but reset the light. now i cant drive my jeep when it rains for fear of more issues. fast forward 3 months to today, i am about a mile from my home and the dash lights up saying service shifter required. and all the lights for p,r,n,d are all red, i tried to turn off and start again with no luck the lights and warning stays on, the digital speedometer wont come up because the warning is there and i cant cycle it off. i googled the problem and noticed a great deal many others having the same issues at all different miles. i dont know what else to do at this point. i believe just the steering wheel locking up alone should be warrant enough for a recall before someone is not as lucky as i was.
Was driving, coming to a stop and screen flashed put gear into park to change gears. so i put it in park and then back into drive and same thing popped up. i put it back into park, shut the car off. tried to turn it back on and it wouldn't start. then i tried again, left key on and it just whirled over 3-4 times and finally started. and everything was gone and i could drive again. a few weeks prior, i was driving down the road, and i had a service shifter light come on and all the lights by each gear on shifter were red.
Service shifter appeared on my screen, and on my shifter, everything lit up in red. something tells me this isn't particularly safe.
The shifting while in operation is very rough, jerks hard while on the highway and then the light will come on indicating the automatic function that turns the engine off while stopped to save fuel isn't working. the vehicle has less than 57,000 miles. this has been happening for about a month more and more frequently both on hwy and in town and always while in motion from 35 mph+
When i start the car the service shifter will come on and all the lights on my shifter light. i turned my cat off and back on and it went off. that was about a week ago. now it is doing it every other day. cant seem to find what the problem is.
About every 5 wks my car says service shifter and all lights come on. nobody can get it to stay off. each time this happened i had just started my car and trying to put it in gear. different times of day some times it had already been driven and others it hadn't.
