Recently reported STEERING problems on 2014 Jeep Cherokee

As i was coming home from work around 9pm i was driving down a county street when the engine light, traction control and power steering light came on but the power steering light went off at some point, but as i approached a curvy bridge i had to slightly turn wheel to the right to follow the curve, but the steering wheel felt hard like i couldnt fully steer the steering wheel. it was very scary as again it was on a curvy bridge and very dark on this roadway. was able to get home safely but engine and traction control light stayed on. next day my husband was driving down the street to my parents house when as he backed out of our driveway the wheel locked and he couldnt steer. shut car off and restarted and turned the corner only to have it completely lock again as he tried to turn the corner and car just died. waited a few minutes and car restarted and was just barely able to get the car to my moms where it shut down again and he had to leave there.the engine light was still on from the night before.

My daughters jeep cherokee sport 2.4l at 62000 miles has shut down with no warning while driving. it has stopped entering city streets and when braking hard to avoid another car. when the vehicle stops and suddenly its steering wheel gets hard to steer . the dash comes on with an error on screen saying, "car must be in park in order to shift." turning the key does nothing until we try multiple times.

Was driving my 2014 jeep cherokee and a steering wheel with an exclamation icon popped up on the dash and i received a warning to service the power steering. then a traction icon lit up and immediately the steering wheel stiffened and i couldn't steer; i was going 65mph on the highway! i attempted to troubleshoot the problem but it's electric power steering and there's no check engine light or codes to scan. i'm currently waiting for a flatbed to tow the jeep back to the dealership where i bought the car less than 2 months ago. chrysler said they've never heard of this issue and it's not part of any recall so this will be an additional expense to repair.

Almost died last week!! we purchased the jeep cherokee trailhawk new in 2014 with the full intent of towing it 4 wheels down behind our motor home. the owners manual for towing is very clear and we have been following the instructions as provided and as instructed by the jeep dealership. last thursday night (may 30th 2019) on hwy 24 in kentucky we hit a rough patch of road and the jeep went into a death wobble that brought the entire rv coach from 65 mph to a dead stop in the middle of the highway in the dark of night in heavy traffic!!! by god's grace only are we not dead!! no driver expects an rv to be parked on the highway (emergency flashers or not). we have been scared before with this at a lower speed of 30 to 40 mph, but never at full highway speed! we are terrified to tow this vehicle even thought the vehicle was clearly sold as tow-able. after researching on the internet about this, i find out it is a known issue with jeep 2014 / 2015 models and that a electrical wiring harness is now required to tow the vehicle safely - however - jeep wants to charge you for this part and install!!! this is pure evil on jeeps part. they know of the issue and are pushing the repair off on the owner, when the vehicle was clearly advertised and sold as tow-able with no need for any adaptations. it is a miracle that no one has been killed due to their negligence in getting these vehicles repaired. i have not been notified by jeep that my life is in danger. they have made no effort in rectifying this deadly situation or even letting me know about a potential solution. i have tried to fix the wobble independently by changing tires, balancing etc, only to learn through google that the jeep is faulty in and of itself, that the steering is not powered correctly to keep the jeep from going into a death wobble. this should be a recall and not the burden of the owner.

We have flat towed our jeep according to manual since we purchased in 2014. on a few occasions we had intermittent wobbling of the motorhome which we thought was due to water in the motorhome's holding tanks. on recent trip we had traveled less than ten miles on the highway when our jeep tow car began to swerve violently from side to side. we were driving straight between 55-60 mph with no on-board water. a driver behind us stopped and said there was something wrong with our jeep since it was swerving violently from side to side, not the motorhome. we inspected everything and there were no flat tires and continued slowly. the event occurred repeatedly after we crossed a bridge or patch of rough highway. we eventually unhitched the jeep and my wife followed behind the motorhome without incident. my wife later learned through social media that mopar issued a wiring harness to repair the lack of power to the steering system when the jeep is flat towed. we were never warned of this issue by mopar and could have had a serious accident if we were towing with a smaller motorhome. we called mopar and they confirmed a repair kit was available but that it may void our extended warranty. we purchased the wiring harness but have not scheduled the repair. also, we were told we must pay our $100 deductible for the repair. this is a safety issue for all jeep owners that are unknowingly towing a jeep that could go out-of-control at any moment. please respond on actions being taken to warn other owners and make mopar accountable for their defective design. i am an engineer by trade and design processes that prevent safety and quality issues. mopar is not being transparent with this dangerous problem lurking under the hood. i may be reached at [xxx] for more information or [xxx]. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt

I am the owner of a 2014 jeep cherokee. in the two years since i've owned my car, i've experienced 30+ instances in which my car stops working in the middle of operation. it's happened while i've been driving on the interstate, in the middle of intersections, and just about every other type of road possible. it usually occurs after i make a turn or come to a hard stop. the car will immediately, and completely randomly, come to a stop. the wheel will no longer work, nor will the engine. it comes with no warning. i will then have to turn my car on and off several times before i can get it in motion again. i've taken it to multiple mechanics and the only solution seems to be to get an oil change, though i am not quite due for one when this happens. after research on the internet, i've found this is a common occurrence amongst jeep owners and the car is eating through an abnormal amount of oil. jeep is well aware of this problem and has done nothing to fix it. the jeep dealers i've taken my car to don't give any alternatives to fixing this problem. this is extremely dangerous and it's only a matter of time before someone is killed or severely injured as a result of this.

Vehicle has been a constant headache. purchased aug 21, 2018. december something broke, ended up being a transfer case shattered. damaging our radiator. a week after picking up i still felt the vehicle was off and tried to return to dealer, they didn't have another trailhawk and said they would call me when they did. a few months gone by of hearing nothing. we did a tire rotation and noticed a huge difference in wear. obviously the front end hasnt been right for months as ai originally complained about. scheduled the vehicle in for service again to find it needs a wheel bearing replacement. received the vehicle back and the notice the passenger rear is still making a lot of noise, enough you can hear over the radio, and the steering feels tight and pulls to the left.

Multiple times after fueling up my vehicle my car will start to shake and sputter and just stall. has happened while on the highway with my family and almost caused a bad wreck. most recently it happened again on local streets. dealer keeps saying they can't figure it out but i videotaped the issue. also when fueling up the vehicle it gives a problem and takes forever to fuel up and spits gas out and back on to me . i don't feel safe driving this car anymore with my family and fca doesn't want to acknowledge there is an issue and says just fill the tank up only 3/4 .. something needs to be done !!

It vibrates it revs up when in gear it shakes code u11c2,u0001000,u04200,u010100,u000288,u012100. *tr

At 42,500 miles the steering gear went down causing the car to say service parking brake, brakes, and transmission while i was driving down a city street. the power brakes and power steering stopped functioning at this time while i was driving.

According to owners manual and jeep, this vehicle is designed and capable of being flat towed behind an rv. there was a supplemental document from jeep advising if you experience a wobble when towing you need kit 683214ab. this needs to be mandatory as it happened twice in the last month after towing thousands of miles, the jeep will start violently wobbling when driving requiring the rv to fully stop in order to recover. on the two occasions, there was no warning. the first issue the car was swinging so much it damaged the rear passenger car tire rim by hitting the curb. luckily there were no bikers or pedestrian at the time. the rv was traveling less than 25 mph on flat street roads. the first time we turned a hard right and was +200 from the turn. the second time we turned left and about +200 from the turn. the jeep is configured with supplemental braking, lights, tow bar, and break away kit. we tow it with a 40' diesel pusher rv about 34k lbs. my request is to have jeep make this fix mandatory instead of elective.

I'm having a few problems with my vehicle, i just bought it used with approximately 111,000 miles. my main concern is my steering wheel becoming very hard to turn while trying to park or ease out of parking. every time i back out, it doesn't let me turn my wheel which was very difficult because i didn't want to hit anyone/anything. also, this morning on 5/23/2018, all my lights on my dash board came on while on my way to work, and my steering wheel became stuck while cars were behind me. luckily, it was in a residential neighborhood. i had to rotate the steering wheel very hard to pull over. i hope no one else goes through this while driving. this is very unsafe. hope to find a resolution.

When accelarating at highway speeds, the steering wheel will shake/vibrate violently. the shaking and vibration can be felt through most of the car and will only stop once you have stop accelerating. the shaking will also start when slowing down from highway speeds. the most shaking tends to be when at 3000+ rpm

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 65 mph in the rain, the windshield wiper motor failed and the exterior and interior lighting shut off. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. once the vehicle was restarted, the lights turned back on and the vehicle operated normally. the vehicle was taken to bemidji chrysler center (located at 755 paul bunyan dr nw, bemidji, mn 56601, (218) 751-8006) where it was diagnosed, but a failure could not be found. in addition, while driving 35 mph, the steering wheel seized and the brake pedal failed to stop the vehicle when it was depressed. as a result, the contact crashed into a fence. there were no injuries. a police report was not filed. the dealer was not notified. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. the vehicle was able to be driven from the scene and was not diagnosed for the brake and steering failures. the approximate failure mileage was 37,000.

This compliant involves towing behind a motor home. on 3 occasions the tow vehicle did not track properly, the fronts wheels began to oscillate shaking the motor home violently creating a situation where the tow vehicle could break loose or cause the motor home to loose control. on first occasion after making a left turn the motor home began to shake violently from the back. i pulled over to inspect vehicle, a pedestrian who witnessed the event came over and said the front wheels of the tow vehicle (jeep cherokee) were oscillating from side to side and he witnessed both the tow vehicle and motor home shaking from side to side. on the second occasion i crossed over a double set of railroad tracks, going 25mph in a straight line, the tow vehicle wheels began to oscillate uncontrollably. after slowing to a complete stop, i could start again normally. the third time occurred on the freeway in a construction zone, i was traveling at 50 mph and went over uneven surface the tow vehicle again began to oscillate. i t was all i could do to hold rv straight as it was shaking violently. i had to come to a complete stop in freeway. the first occurrence was in sept 2015, the second in july 2017 and the third in august 2017. i have a 38 ft motor home, i believe if it was smaller i easily could have lost control, or the tow vehicle could tear loose from the motor home. when not towing the jeep drives with no issues. i have a blu-ox tow bar and it was being towed as recommended by the manufacturer. i believe this vehicle could have a design flaw.

Vehicle showed no warning lights, dash lights flashed, then vehicle engine stopped, no steering, no brakes. unable to move vehicle into neutral. vehicle was in motion at 45 miles per hour on the road, going straight.

I nearly had a catastrophic accident when the vehicle went into a "death wobble" as a result of a defect in the vehicle when being towed four down. this should be a recall for jeep vehicles with the active drive ii transmission. i purchased the vehicle in 2014 with the knowledge of jeep it was going to be towed behind a motorhome.

I have a 2014 jeep cherokee latitude that is a lemon. it jerks really hard when you take off from a stop, it loses power while driving down the road, the steering gets really tight and you can barely turn the wheel while driving, if you dont wait for the car to jerk twice when you put it in drive it will go backwards in reverse while in drive, the radio and climate controll constantly reset do to power failure, sometimes it dont want to start, the check enine light did'nt even come on until a week after the problems started, it throws warning lights like low tire pressure or traction controll when nothing is wrong, and the dealership wants to charge me $800 (that i can not afford) just to see what they need to do to try and fix it. they don't even know whats wrong or if they even can but they expecet me to pay them!!! i have only had my car 15 months and it only has 38,000 miles on it,and now i find out that it has went way down in value due to all the recalls. what can i do????

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving 40 mph, the steering seized without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the power steering module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the local dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 58,000.

While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering. the service power steering, 4 wheel drive, and check engine warning indicators illuminated. in addition, the steering wheel required excessive force to turn. the vehicle was driven back to the contact's residence and then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering gear module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer any assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 50,125.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. the contact stated while the vehicle was operated at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle experienced a loss of power steering. the service power steering and 4 wheel drive warning indicators illuminated. the steering wheel required excessive force. the vehicle was driven back to the contacts residence. the vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering rack needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not offer any further assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

Transmission fails constantly, while driving! very dangerous and jeep doesn't know how to fix this safety issue. my jeep has only 31,600 miles!

Drove my cherokee off the lot and notice a wobble. took back the next day. employee drove it with me and felt it. wanted to wait for the 3000 mile oil change to see if things settled in after being driven. finally at approximately at 8000 took it to be checked. they kept the vehicle said they couldn't release it to me until repairs were made. replaced the front axels and bolts. on 12-31-16 at about 23,000 miles loud noise started took it in. advised it needs a new drive shaft and wasn't safe to drive so given loaner. the first incident happened at low speed, the recent incident was very obvious at about 10-15 mph

I bought a brand new cherokee trailhawk and within the first 8 months the transmission needed to be totally replaced after having significant issues with switching gear. in december 2016 i was driving to nc, with 55,800 miles on the vehicle, the power steering suddenly shut out and i wasn't able to accelerate, all while going 70mph on a major highway. i had to coast to the side of the road. i had to have it towed to the dealership, where they performed a "software upgrade" and gave it back to me. the next morning, the exact same incident occurred on my way to work, in rush hour, at a very high speed. i again had to coast to the shoulder to pull off. the dealership still hasn't returned it, over a week later, because they don't actually know how to fix it. i will never again buy a jeep, and if i ever see my cherokee again i will not feel safe driving it. *tr

Car went into neutral for no reason at all. i had to coast to the side of the road. after unplugging the battery and plugging it back in i had lower gears to make it to h-e-b the ship. they said nothing was wrong with it and reset the codes and sent me on my way after two days. he ships harder and gets much less gas mileage

I had just picked up my jeep 2014 cherokee trailhawk from the dealership following the s-55 recall software update. (my vehicle was deemed not to need the new transaxle wiring harness parts, only the software update.) upon leaving the dealership, the battery light and alarm chime came on while making a u-turn and the steering became very hard at low speed. at the next traffic light, i experienced a loss of steering as slowing to a stop. when the light turned green, i was able to complete the left turn as the steering re-engaged upon acceleration. i immediately pulled into a parking lot and had extreme difficulty turning into a parking space, as steering went out again as the brakes were applied and speed decelerated to a stop. i was able to limp vehicle back the short distance to the dealership by keeping off the main highway and using parking lots and back streets. this occurrence of events was the same as my husband experienced prior to the s-55 transaxle wiring harness recall software update, except he eventually also lost all emotive power (complaint # 10915926). the service technician at the dealership could not replicate this issue, possibly because i inadvertently turned vehicle off in service lane, which may have reset the system temporarily.

Transmission acting erratically. transmission will shift hard into 2nd and 3rd gear. when coming to stop it will downshift in a rough matter. some times it bangs but is only intermittently. the transmissions works fine on the freeway will work fine only noticeable on city driving. i have taken for repairs and software update several times to the point that i got frustrated and stop calling the dealer. the 36k warranty expired in december 2016.

Tow the jeep behind motorhome and while traveling about 45mph the jeep started to shake out of control causing the entire motorhome to sway side to side. had to completely come to full stop to correct, this has happened two times. contacted jeep and filed complaint for fix which they will not help with cost. have a case number on file.

While driving the vehicle, all of a sudden there was a shutdown of the vehicle's computer/electrical system, a loss of any steering control, an immediate vehicle deceleration with no ability to correct by accelerating, and a loss of braking control.

Takata recall car bucking when shifting into gear. also there was a knocking noise when driving at different speeds and when turning the wheel or going over bumps. it got so bad that it sounded like my tire was going to fall off or the underneath of my car. also my car was shaking when it would hit a bump. there was also a whining noise that would occur when i turned my wheel either way. this problem has been occurring for almost two years now, everytime i brought it back to the dealer they stated that my "car was fine" was not until i brought it to another mechanic that they told me it was my front passenger wheel ball joint. this would occur while the car was on the highway or side roads, as long as the car was in motion. also my car would have problems when shifting. the car bucked on my on the highway when i was going 65 the car lights started flashing and i got warning lights stating to put car into desired gear, check oil and transmission. i pulled into the break down lane and put the car in park. turned the car on and off & the same thing happened. *tr

I have experienced the 'death wobble' several times in the past two years while towing my 2014 jeep cherokee latitude behind my class a motorhome. in 2016 the last occurrence, and the most worrisome for me, occurred while driving at highway speed on an interstate highway on a major trip in september. approaching a construction zone, there was a cross-over from the west bound lanes into the eastbound inside lane. this cross-over had a difference in cross-slope and an abrupt change of grade. traffic was going at about 40-45 miles per hour at the point of the cross-over. the wobble occurred just as i was crossing from the westbound to eastbound lane. it was a violent wobble, with a huge side sway happening at the rear of the motorhome. i slowed down as much as i could. i put on my flashers and continued at approximately 10 miles per hour until i was able to find a cross slope in the median where i was able to pull over and stop. until i found this area, i was fighting the wildly swinging rear end of my motorhome and the jeep wobbling back and forth behind me. and once i had stopped and knew i could resume my trip and that this episode of the wobble was over, i could not get back out onto the one-lane westbound traffic lane because of the backup of traffic that had built up behind me while i was driving at 10. from this point until i returned home, i was afraid every time i hit a bump or rough section of the interstate that i was going to trigger another wobble, but fortunately i did not experience another episode that trip. i'm at a point now where i'm afraid to tow my jeep. the only reason i purchased it was because the jeep literature i researched before i bought it stated that it could be towed four wheels down (with the active drive ii transfer case set to neutral per the owner's manual) with no restrictions on speed or distance when towing. *tr

While towing our jeep behind a class a 24 foot motorhome traveling about 50 miles an hour on a bumpy road the jeep started shaking violently and trying to pull to one side or the other. we slowed down but it continued until we came to a complete stop in the middle of the road. cars behind us cleared out away because i'm sure they thought it was going to break loose. we of course were scared and concerned as we had no idea what was happening. we are in a very remote area with no cell phone service and concern about danger to us and other travelers as we had no place to pull off. we did a thorough walk around concerned about flat tires or a broken tow hitch. i recall an article in motorhome magazine concerning "death wobble "in 2014 and 15 jeep cherokee's. we did a youtube search and internet and found out there is a history of this problem that jeep is trying to correct but it does not seem to be working. if we had been towing the jeep with a pick up truck we probably would've been flipped off the road, luckily we are in a big heavy motorhome. motorhome owners may find out about this as time goes on but these jeeps will be traded to uninformed owners that may pullthe jeep with a smaller vehicle. the name death wobble all over youtube has me concerned as how the name came to be. i really feel this is an accident waiting to happen while being pulled by lightweight rv or suvs or already obviously has happened but not reported. it is in a very limited situation but nevertheless owners and potential owners should be made aware and a better fix should be forthcoming. an article can be found in motorhome magazine for november 2016 and the previous issue .

We purchased a 2014 jeep cherokee limited, 4wd w/active drive 2 in january 2014. when we purchased this vehicle, we traded in a gmc terrain. we were certain that the jeep was going to be a fantastic purchase, knowing the reputation of jeep. we have had nothing but what i'd call serious problems with the transmission. every time i take it in for an oil change, i mention it, and they do "software updates." each software update that has been done has not corrected the problem still. all it's done is created a different problem. there have now been 5 recalls on this vehicle, 1 of which hasn't been taken care of yet because jeep hasn't come up with a replacement part, so i'm stuck with a rental renegade that is nowhere near comparable to my cherokee limited 4wd, for an "unspecified amount of time." my steering column makes a grinding noise louder than a 40 year old truck. the dealership told me that it was a normal sound. no vehicle i've ever driven has sounded like this, especially one that cost me $40,000!!!

When at an average rate of speed (55mph) while driving on a curve (there is a bump in the road at the spot i am referring to), when the jeep hits it, it has a death wobble in the front end!!! cruise control speeds up on a very small decline in the road every time used!!! from a stop, the car has a hard shift when beginning to press accelerator!!! hands free voice gets my voice request wrong almost every time!!!

Transmission failed while driving at about 60 mph on a highway. lost power, lost power steering. could barely steer car to the side of the road. turned off, waited, restarted and it ran fine. service transmission light came on for a while, then went off after about 50 miles. this happened for the second time on june 27, 2016. after the first time several months ago we took the vehicle to the dealership for a software update, this is really dangerous. losing power and power steering while traveling down a highway at 60 mph could result in an accident if it happened in traffic. luckily for us, traffic was light so we we able to get off the road on both times this has happened. must be a software defect, as the engine is running fine.

Purchased vehicle for flat towing behind motorhome. at speed, car steering is affected and causes car to shake violently as well as motorhome.condition has occurred several times while flat towing vehicle. this is a major safety concern as it causes a potential loss of control of motorhome at speed.

There is a vibrating sound coming from the center of the steering wheel. you can feel it when touching the center of the steering wheel. the vehicle is in motion when this happens have taken it in 4 times to be repaired it still is doing the same thing. the transmission stopped and would not go after turning the engine off and restarting it it would go but lights still on. had it towed to dealer.

Tl* the contact owned a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving approximately 30 mph, the steering wheel seized and the vehicle crashed into a ditch. the air bags did not deploy. a police report was filed. the driver sustained injuries to the collar bone. the contact sustained injuries to the spine, facial lacerations, and a fractured vertebrae. medical attention was required. the vehicle was destroyed and towed to the dealer. the failure mileage was unknown.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving at a low speed, the vehicle stalled and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. the contact had to apply force to the steering wheel in order to steer the vehicle. the check engine warning indicator illuminated. in addition, whenever the heating or air conditioning units were activated, a mold odor emitted from the air vents. the vehicle was towed to a dealer, but the cause of the failure was unable to be diagnosed. the dealer speculated that the software needed to be reset. the vehicle was repaired. after the repair, while driving down an incline at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle hesitated to move forward. the rpms increased. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the software was reset. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v529000 (power train); however, the part needed to repair the vehicle was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 15,000. parts distribution disconnect.

On several occasions, our jeep cherokee has begun to "wobble" severely while being flat towed behind our motorhome. this occurred three times on a recent 2,000 mile trip. the "wobble" is so severe that we have to bring the motorhome to a complete stop before the car begins to track normally. we have had it happen when we ran over a particularly rough expansion joint on the interstate. going from 65 mph to a complete stop on a busy interstate is extremely dangerous. another example of it being very dangerous is when the "wobble", occurs when we are in a construction zone where there are rough roads. coming to a complete stop in heavy traffic in a construction zone also creates a situation that can cause an accident. we pull the jeep behind a 40' 2013 newmar dutch star. our tow bar is a blue ox avail 10,000 lb tow bar. we keep the motorhome and tow bar in good condition and i don't believe our equipment is the cause of the "wobble". we have contacted jeep on two occasions and have been told they are aware of the situation and that they have a "fix" for it. i have tried to procure the "fix" from jeep but i have been unable to do so. i am asking nhtsa to force jeep to immediately release the "fix" for the wobble issue immediately at no charge . my wife and i are leaving on two trips, one the last of april and one in the middle of may that will total nearly 10,000 miles. we want to get the repair completed prior to our leaving due to the safety concerns. jeep was made aware of this by the family motorcoach association several months ago and reported the problem in their january 2016 magazine. i feel jeep has had ample time to prepare and distribute information and parts to repair this problem.

Electric power steering failed suddenly. a complete loss of power steering and steering warning light on the dash occurred simultaneously while driving on the highway. after stopping the vehicle, turning off the engine, opening the door to power off the electronics, and restarting the vehicle, the power steering seemed to work properly and the steering warning light on the dash was gone. the same issue occurred two additional times while on a road trip away from home with my family at both low speed and high speed. it occurred once more while making a left turn out of a parking lot, which caused me to narrowly miss hitting a police officer who was directing traffic, before i was able to drop the vehicle off at a dealership. at low speeds, it was very difficult to steer the vehicle and impossible to turn at a low enough radius to park or make a right turn into or out of traffic. i consider myself to be a very strong person and i was required to use a tremendous amount of force using both hands to control the vehicle while the power steering was out. it felt like i was going to break the steering wheel or bend the steering column just trying to make a right hand turn out of traffic on a city street. i have had experience driving without hydraulic power steering in older vehicles, and i know that i was required to use two to three times more force in this instance. the dealership told me the electric power steering rack was the cause of the vehicle's issue. this failure, which occurred each time without warning, has caused me to feel uneasy about driving the vehicle, especially with my wife and infant son in the car. the vehicle is currently at the dealership for repair and has been waiting to receive the necessary replacement part for several weeks. i have been told that the replacement electric power steering rack is on backorder.

Tl* the contact owned a 2014 jeep cherokee. while driving the vehicle at an unknown speed, the vehicle veered to the left when the contact turned the steering wheel to the right. as a result, the vehicle crashed into a field and caught fire. the vehicle was destroyed. a police report was filed. the contact sustained injuries to the back and right leg that required medical attention. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was 27,000.

At four different random occasions vehicle will disengage the transmission while in drive and become uncontrollable only thing responsive are the brakes. the power steering will go out as well and the vehicle transmission light and parking light will appear on the gauge display. after pulling over on the highway and letting the vehicle sit off for 5 minutes, i would then restart the vehicle and still get a indicator stating to put the vehicle in park when it is already in park. afterwards vehicle indicator lights would go away after a few restarts and once put in drive gears would shift roughly. after multiple times of turning the vehicle on and off things will return to normal but as stated before i have no clue what triggers the transmission to disengage. it has happened to me while driving through the city and highway going at different speeds.

In cooler and cold temperatures the steering makes a grinding and dragging noise when turning the steering wheel both right and left. the chrysler dealers have a technical service bulletin on this problem but when the strut is lubricated the problem reappears in a week or never goes away at all. the service technicians act like this is not a problem, but this type is issue does not go away, it just gets worse. maybe the strut mounting bushings also need to be replaced or the struts themselves may need to be replaced on a proper vehicle recall by your agency. this noise happens with the vehicle both stationary and moving until warm up occurs after driving for 5 minutes or 4 miles. this happened when the car was brand new and every cold spell since.

Roseville chrysler called 12/11/15 @ 10:32 am told me they completed oil change and i can pick up my vehicle. fyi: this vehicle was towed to roseville chrysler dealership 12/7/15 and will remain there because this vehicle is a lemon and is dangerous. will not risk my life or my 6yr son health to drive this vehicle!! 2014 jeep cherokee suv started jerking & idled stop moving on me twice 12/5/15 @3:30pm. i was stuck in the middle of intersection 13mile & utica for 1minute fortunately no one was tailgating & i didn't get in a car accident. all i want is to exchange for another vehicle that is not a cherokee. purchased vehicle may 8 2014 incident dates may 9 , 2014 bake & radio complaint may 12, 2014 brake complaint sept 5, 2014 radio complaint sept 9, 2014 radio replaced sept 11,2014 radio complaint 4/6/15 complaint over jerking vehicle 7/21/15 installed new transmission / installed new door handle latch for trunk 12/5/15 jerking suv twice 2 stops driving 12/7/15 returned to dealership

While driving home from work the vehicle jerked and the transmission service light came on. once the light came on the vehicle would not drive faster than 10 mph and the rpm were at like 4000. the transmission has been weird since day one. i brought the vehicle in and they reprogrammed the computer. it still acted funny after the reprogramming. there were times i would be traveling on the highway and would lose any sort of accelerating when the gas pedal was pressed. it would then kick in all of a sudden. all the issues regarding the transmission and its shifting hard were told to the service tech and i was told they couldn't find the problem. also the front end steering linkage makes very loud noises when turning the wheel from left or right. this was also explained to the tech who said he couldn't find the issue. yet the truck still makes the noises anytime it does it. this is not something you expect to deal with after purchasing a new vehicle which is not 2 years old. especially it is the reason i bought this so i wouldn't have to worry about spending money on an old car and for dependability.

On 10/18/2015, while flat towing my 2014 jeep cherokee at approximately 60 mph on i-5 near san clemente, ca behind our rv, we suddenly experienced a violent side to side swerving sensation. while working to control the rv, i viewed via the rear camera, the cherokee rocking side to side, violently shaking the rv. the 2014 jeep cherokee is specifically designed to be flat towed behind the rv, and was connected to the rv with a blue-ox towing system. i had previously towed the jeep cherokee approximately 14,000 miles prior to this event with no problems. the violent swaying continued through the braking process, and did not cease until the vehicle came to a complete stop. after stopping on i-5, a preliminary investigation did not identify an obvious cause such as a flat/soft tire on the rv or jeep, loose or damaged tow bar. i slowly exited the interstate and parked in a safe location for a closer inspection. turning the jeep's ignition to "on" without starting, i noticed my check engine light and electronic stabilitycontrol light were illuminated. after checking various rv forums, i discovered that others with 2014 jeep cherokees had experienced the same issue which seems to resolve itself after stopping the vehicle. i continued on my journey without any additional problems and the warning lights on my dash reset within a day or so. it appears to be a unique problem to 2014 jeep cherokees according to various rv forums. my 2014 jeep cherokee is equipped with the active drive ii transmission specifically designed for flat towing behind my rv.

Was sent chrysler csn s13 safety recall due to flat-tow issue behind motor home. vehicle begins to sway l to r violently if it is moved onto shoulder or change is surface. chrysler to add wire harness which keeps battery on during tow to re-center steering wheel. battery is dead in 3-hours if this fix is added. vehicle was sold to us as towable platform and not disclosed of these issues. this issue occurred while leaving our home development and turning right last october 2015. the vehicle corrected itself when stopping and continuing. after reading several complaints in fmca, i've decided to take to dealer and write formal safety complaint. this is second safety complaint behind transmission issue which was created some months ago. there have been several recalls on this vehicle. this issue can damage the vehicle as well as our motorhome. solution fo wire harness is not acceptable for us due to battery failure and should not be to any other customer purchasing this vehicle (as advertised) as tow vehicle.

Experienced an uncontrollable car wobble problem three times, while flat towing our 2014 jeep cherokee behind our motor home in september on trip from wyoming to michigan. an irregularity in the highway initiates a violent side to side wobble of the entire vehicle which appears to attain a natural frequency that requires bring the vehicle to a complete halt to stop the oscillating. the third time this occurred was life threatening on i-80 south of chicago at rush hour with five lanes of traffic at 60 plus mph. luckily, i was in the outside lane where i could get my rig off to the shoulder and stopped. this is a major safety issue which other people are experiencing with the new jeep cherokee. even though chrysler specifically designed the new jeep cherokee to be flat towed behind a motorhome, and was one of the main reasons i bought the vehicle, the unpredictable danger the wobble prohibits flat towing. a fast growing number of consumers who experiencing the same problem need assistance from chrysler on how to remedy this problem. please instigate an investigation into this issue with chrysler as there has been no acknowledgement of the problem on their part. we have our travel plans on hold until we can have a remedy to the problem.

This is the third incident in which the computer of the jeep cherokee has malfunctioned. i had it serviced for the second time just two weeks prior to this incident for the check engine light turning on and then the transmission failed. in this particular accident, the screen froze, my phone was charging and when the screen froze my phone was powered off along with the charging port, and then when i went to brake due to it being a red light and car in front of me the brakes and steering wheel locked on me and i was unable to brake or switch lanes. a service light flashed at me when everything froze but then disappeared. of course, after the car had been off and turned back on, there were no issues. this is not the first time the car has frozen on me. i'm unsure of the better term to describe this. but this time resulted in an accident which was not in my control due to my brakes and steering wheel locking. i was told two weeks ago my car was up to date on all service issues. apparently this was incorrect and needs to be addressed with jeep. i also have yet to receive any safety recalls regarding the known transmission issue and the brake hack due to the 3g and uconnect computer systems. this is a safety hazard and needs to be addressed and fixed.
