The support struts for the tailgate failed. the door came crashing down on mother and daughter. mother pushed daughter out of way but the door caught the mother on the right arm. upper arm received a deep bruise 1 inch in diameter. the door worked well prior to this. there had been no warning like slow to lift or hard to lift open (or to close). *js

I have a navy blue color honda odyssey 2005. now, that car is becoming a junk because of the paint defect. and it start changing with rust. paint peeling becomes serious day after day, almost everywhere the top of the car, and paint start to peel bonnet too. recently, i found that certain model cars which i have had paint defect, but honda company said they couldn't fix my car because the date they sat for repairing was over. they never send any recall information about this defect. this paint peeling originally start from the roof, so it is hard to notice quickly. it is definitely the manufactural defect, so honda company has to fix this no matter what date customers find out, and honda had to send information about this paint defect early for preventing this happening. i hope someone review my complaint, and help me. thank you for your reading. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rear hatch was opened using the automatic key fob. the rear hatch then came in contact with a pole located outside of the vehicle and the hatch began to close but it could not be closed because the hatch was knocked out of alignment by the pole. as a result, the rear hatched continued to automatically open and close until the contact slammed it closed. the contact expressed concern because the rear hatch continued to unintentionally open and close independently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that the vehicle was operating to specifications. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 60,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the vehicle was parked and she opened the rear sliding door on the driver's side. while opening the door, two pins detached from the back end of the door and the door hung downward. the contact examined the pins and noticed that they were corroded. an authorized dealer was notified, but offered no assistance. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 97,000. updated 6/4/12 *cn

Our 2005 honda odyssey had just been serviced by the dealership and we were on our way home. we were at a stoplight when we noticed smoke coming from the engine. we quickly drove it a short distance away from anyone, jumped out and called the fire department. the engine compartment was completely burnt/destroyed and the vehicle was written off by the insurance company. a report was made to the dealership, as well as american honda with accompanying investigative report and photographs.the cause of the fire was undetermined but originated in the engine compartment.. *tr

While on vacation, the electric sliding door on the passenger side failed in such a way that the door could not be opened more than a few inches. we were still able to close the door and safely drive the vehicle. there was no way to manually override the electric opening mechanism where it was stuck, so the door could not be used. several months later, the driver side sliding door also failed. in this case, the door was stuck half open and could not be moved either to fully open it or close it. the door was stuck open until we could get the vehicle to the dealer for repair. this is a safety issue. the electrically operated doors should be designed in such a way that allows easy manual operation of the doors in the event of a failure of the electric motor and opening mechanism. *tr

The driver side rear sliding door stuck closed. son could not get out. panicked state because he went back to get something from van and closed the door while he looked for it. could not get out as door was stuck. he tried to open several times, but no use. door will not open manually or automatically. this could have been a bigger problem if it were summer here in phoenix arizona as the temperature could have been 115 degrees or higher outside making the temperature at least 20-30 degrees hotter inside. luckily the outside temperature was in the 80's in the phoenix area today. we visit our relatives in arizona at least once every year and cannot afford to have door issues on our almost 3,000 mile round trip. we have 2 children and for safety reasons cannot have our doors fail to close or open properly for any reason, at any time! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey . the contact stated while driving at the speeds of 15 mph, the rear passenger sliding door detached from the vehicle. the vehicle was driven to an authorized dealer where they diagnosed the failure and stated the vehicle could be repaired at the owners expense. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and the current mileage was 180,000. updated 03/14/12*lj

Both tailgate struts 74820-shj-a01 failed simultaneously causing the gate to close while occupants were under the gate. not sure yet if anyone is injured. honda informed me that my model was not one of the affected models, therefore i am not covered by a recall. this is a dangerous situation. *tr

My 2005 honda odyssey is taking on water in the hatchback/liftgate. after it rains when the liftgate is raised water will poor out of it where the liftgate will latch. it is not a few drops of water, it pours out. also the water leaks inside as sits in the back cargo area. *tr

Sliding door will get stuck. center door bracket 72521-shj-a21 is defective, small plastic wheel will get worn and comes off. improper design and lack of routine lubrication is the cause. *tr

2005 honda odyssey both sliding door broken cable. *tr

Sliding doors do not latch completely. they close but a few seconds later open again with light showing they are open. doors have come open while driving with children in back, even when they were supposed to be locked. this is a huge safety issue despite children being secured in a seatbelt. *tr

Had to replace a front motor mount in my 2005 honda odyssey. my mechanic indicated that he contacted a honda dealer and they were out of the part because there were several odyssey's with the same problem. i didn't know how many complaints needed to be launched before a recall notice would be considered. i wanted my vehicle noted since i did not go to a honda dealer. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rollers broke on the rear driver side door which caused the door to come off the hinge. the contact noticed no prior problems with the door. the contact called the manufacturer who offered no assistance. the vehicle had not been repaired. the current and failure mileages were approximately 150,000.

The driver side electric sliding door will not close all the way. *tr

tl*the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for repair for recall 10v055000 (structure: body: hatch-back lift-gate support) in june 2010. on november 6, 2010, the contact opened the lift gate which fell on her. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the strut was replaced. the contact stated that the dealer replaced the part with the same defective material. the contact called the manufacturer who offered to sell the contact a one year warranty on the part. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000 and the current mileage was approximately 110,000.

Rear lift gate struts fail without notice. at this point, the rear lift gate is extremely heavy and dangerous to ones safety. this is the second time this issue has occurred on this vehicle. honda keeps replacing the struts with the same part number that continues to fail. same repair was completed on this vehicle eighteen months ago. i requested a better stronger or beefier replacement strut, but since my vehicle is under extended warranty they keep replacing with the same part number. i have four small kids and if it were to fail with one of them standing under the lift gate it could be a very dangerous situation. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. while the vehicle was parked with the hatch back lift gate open the struts failed. she stated that the lift gated closed with great force and speed. she referenced recall 10v055000 structure body hatchback/liftgate and was advised by the dealer and the manufacturer that her vehicle was not a part of the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 101,750 and the current mileage was 101,856.

The driver side rear sliding door on my 2005 honda odyssey opened while i was driving down the road at 55 mph. if this is not a safety issue, i don't know what is!!!!!! *tr

I have 2005 honda odyssey ex-l (3.5l 6cyl 5a) and a problem as follows; nature of defect: hatchback liftgate hydraulic shock is not working. i am planning to repair shortly. part number 74820-shj-a01 stay, tai please advice. thanks. *tr

We were informed that our 2005 honda had a damaged/broken rear engine mount. additionally, we were told by the honda service writer that this if from normal driving wear and tear, such as shifting from reverse to drive, acceleration and the transmission shifting. it certainly seems af if honda terribly under engineered this part. there activities are part of normal driving. our van has 62,xxx miles on it and used mostly for suburban driving, and not exceeding the recommended driving conditions from honda. the dealer wants to charge $850 for the one mount. clearly honda should recognize the issue and replace these items, at their expense, for defective parts. *tr

2005 honda odyssey liftgate struts failed. opened the rear liftgate to remove something from the trunk and the liftgate did not stay up. now everytime i try and open the liftgate, i would need to open with one hand and remove items or put items inside with the other hand. *tr

2005 honda odyssey ex tailgate strut failed, causing tailgate to drop suddenly. the dropping tailgate would likely injure a smaller person. *tr

The first incident of the driver side automatic sliding passenger door occurred in june 2010, when vehicle was only about 5 years old. there has never been an accident, dents, or anything that might impact the function of the doors. since then, both passenger auto sliding doors now have trouble closing, and will often close on a passenger, with the passenger's body being the only thing that makes the door stop closing. summary: both sliding doors either do not close properly (stop short and have to be restarted several times, often forced to close); or they close back immediately after opening and scare or squish the passenger who is getting into the vehicle. this is a safety hazard, and we fear that soon the doors will not stop and completely crush the person entering the vehicle, or we will have to drive with the door open if it will not close. sometimes it takes about 4-6 attempts to close the doors after everyone is in the car and belted in. my friend has the same car and similar issue, so i was wondering if there are more complaints, perhaps there should be a recall? thank you for your time and consideration! *tr

Issue: design flaw in 2005 honda odyssey exl nav res which exposes the vehicles air conditioner condenser to unnecessary puncture damage from common street debris allowing dangerous freon gases to escape to damage the environment and provide great financial hardship to the vehicle owner. common issue experienced by many of the exact same vehicle owners. this is a serious environmental issue that needs to be resolved by honda as well as reimbursement for repairs and prevention steps taken by consumers to protect vehicles from future damage. my honda had just experienced this issue and now all the freon released unnecessarily into the atmosphere and we are stuck with a $1000 repair and the vehicle is then still easily susceptible to future damage. i would like to file a formal complaint against honda for this serious issue environmentally damage issue caused by their design flaw which easily exposes the air conditioning condenser to unnecessary damage and great financial hardship to the vehicle owner. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey ex. while the vehicle was parked, the tailgate lift rods would not stay in place. he had to hold the lift rods manually in order to open the tailgate. the contact stated a passenger sustained a minor head injury while loading the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer or a local repair shop to be repaired. the contact was unable to provide a vin. the approximate failure and current mileage were 52,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated when opening the rear lift gate, the struts failed and almost struck the contact. he attempted to keep the lift gate from falling but to no avail. he had to hold the lift gate up to prevent it from falling. the manufacturer was contacted and advised him to contact the dealer. the vehicle had not yet been taken to the dealer for an assessment of the failure or repairs. the failure and current mileages were 54,000.

At highway speed, we noticed a thunk sound coming from the rear of the car. when we stopped, we noticed that the rear spoiler of our 2005 honda odyssey had come off. there were no injuries, the danger is the piece of the car flying through the air in the highway. the part is the size of a 2x4, it was located at the roof line above the rear gate. i do not know if anyone hit the part on the highway. *tr

Left (driver's side) sliding door on honda odyssey will not close or lock. had to drive to the dealer with the door constantly opening and my children inside the car. my friend sat on the back seat to try to keep the door closed. i do think this is a safety issue since this happened out of the blue without any warning at all. the dealer said that "honda does not see it as a safety issue". i see the door property closing as a safety issue since it is a family car with children involved. i see it as a safety issue just like i see seat belts as a safety issue. i think there is something wrong with this problem, it is unsafe. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. while driving at approximately 55 mph, the contact stated that the driver side sliding door open and closed on its own. when the contact locked the doors, the door would remain closed. the vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. the current mileage was approximately 91,000. the failure mileage was approximately 90,980.

Tail gate failure honda odyssey 2005 lx model. the tail gate struts have failed and will not hold open the tailgate door. it takes two people to access the trunk now. i called honda to see if they could help with the issue and because it is not under the vin recall for the touring models that i am out of luck. seems like the same problem on the same year of van should also be covered. rather than waiting for serious injury to happen. *tr

Strong vibration felt in passenger compartment and steering wheel when driving at 40 to 45 mph. there was a droning noise as well. this has been an issue since 2010, but identified by dealer service advisor only in feb 2014. quoted 800 dollars to replace both front engine mounts. also identified rear engine mount to be close to needing replacement. called honda customer service asking for assistance in replacing the engine mounts. we just replaced catalytic converters due to diagnostic code p0420 two months ago for 800 dollars. honda's representative (his name is [xxx] refused to assist in any way. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

We were driving in our 2005 honda odyssey, and noticed something knocking. it also sounded like someone had their window down. we pulled over to look at the vehicle. our newborn started to cry, so my husband went to open the driver's side sliding door. upon pulley the handle, the whole door fell back off the van. we were told the plastic rollers were defective. they cracked when we hit a pot hole and let the door slide off the track. then the pins that are supposed to stop the door from going off the track failed. honda said it's not covered under warranty, and they have not received enough complaints to warrant looking into the safety of this vehicle. *tr

A/c condenser punctured by road debris for third time in 5 years. design flaw; condenser has no protection behind grill. expensive, non-warrantied item and repair! *tr

Passenger power sliding door malfunctioned. door would not close in automatic mode. door also could not be fully closed manually. rear door latch would not hold door in closed position. as a result, door partially came open while driving. *tr

2005 honda odyssey tailgate failure - while my wife was unloading some groceries with the tailgate open, she heard this beeping sound (from the tailgate) and the tailgate began closing. she did not suffer any significant injury aside from freaking out while trying to get out of the way. now, the tailgate does not stay open. *tr

Honda's have been having issues with paint peeling on blue cars honda extended the warranty by two years for my 2005 honda odyssey i was not aware that honda was covering the paint issue i was not aware that honda had extended the warranty i am fairly sure that the dealer i purchased the vehicle from was aware that i purchased a vehicle that potentially had a paint issue and that it was covered under warranty. honda of lisle (illinois) should have been more proactive in seeking out and covering this issue

Honda 2005 odyssey sliding door gets stuck. does not close completely. *tr

2005 honda odyssey side door. when pressing the button to close the door automatically, it begins to close and then opens right back up and close again. this door has closed on my children and squishes them quite a bit before it retracts. *tr

2005 honda odyssey lift gate stays failed causing minor injury. *tr

I have a 2005 honda odyssey ex. summer of 2007 the struts went out the rear liftgate slammed down nearly catching my hand as i was unloading items. the struts were replaced. last summer of 2008 the struts failed again and i was unable to open the gate and it would slam shut. they replaced the struts. this summer, august 2009 they failed again. honda is not willing to replace the struts at no cost to me at this point. the hatch slams down and could easily decapitate a person that was leaning into the vehicle. luckily none of my children or i have not been injured, just annoyed at this point. *tr

2005 honda odyssey has a problem with the engine mounts. *nj the dealer informed the consumer of the risk involved if the engine mounts were not replaced. *jb

2005 honda odyssey touring automatic hatch closed on me while i was retrieving items. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact was entering the vehicle when the electronic sliding door failed to work properly. the sliding doors were open for a brief moment before closing on their own causing a shoulder injury. the failure occurred on two previous occasions. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, and the manufacturer was notified. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 13,000 and the current mileage was 133,000.

The power sliding doors will not close on a hill. they will start to close and then reopen automatically on there own, they will only then close when you get to level ground. i bring this up now because i was with 7 odyssey owners that have the exact same problem. *tr

Failure of tailgate stay assembly.*tr

I opened up the trunk gate of my 2005 honda odyssey to remove some items, as i was backing away from the van, the tail gate strut suddenly looses pressure and drops down. honda odyssey tailgate strut failure. i went to honda to purchase replacements parts, and kept the orig ones as proof. now the replacement parts is starting to have problems, it did not completely failed, but it does not have enough pressure to hold up the trunk gate and keep it open. i did receive a bump on the head, since i was not very close to the car, but the situation could have been much worst. *tr

The lift gate will not stay open. when you open it and let go of it will fall on top of you. *tr
