The front passenger door would not open from either the inside or outside latch even though unlocked as the door lock knob was up. this problem was observed about mid december 2019. took it to a honda dealer, south tacoma honda, and they could not open the door either. they said the interior panel would need to be destroyed to access the mechanisms and repair. had the repair done by south tacoma honda who replaced the interior door panel because they had to tear it out, latch and actuator for $1,092.56. they did not know why the actuator and latch failed. i'm concerned this could occur with the driver side door too. it's a safety issue if the door(s) won't open.

Slide door came off it's track and fell off completely. extremely dangerous and left our family stranded. we were stationary and simply opening the door to leave.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. when the contact opened the driver's side door, it detached from the vehicle. a family friend attached the door with a ratchet and the contact was able to drive home. the contact called economy honda superstore (located at 6001 lee hwy, chattanooga, tn 37421, (423) 381-6429), but they did not assist. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that there were no recalls. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 235,000.

I was driving on the interstate when my hood flew up and shattered my windshield. after inspecting the vehicle, it was found that the hood latch mechanism had screws missing and one screw very loose left in place. the hood latch mechanism freely moved around which is apparently how the hood became unlatched and broke the windshield. on the interstate doing 50mph on the marquette interchange this created an unsafe condition because i was unable to see anything once the hood was up and had to brake immediately to keep from crashing into anything possibly in front of me. this also could have caused someone else to crash into me. i also couldn't see due to the hood. i had to use my side window and mirrors to maneuver myself to the emergency lane, tie the hood down with a cord. how does this happen? how do screws loosen on the latch to the frame of the vehicle?

2005 honda odyssey '-the sliding doors fell off !!!!!!. i researched and discovered a numerous amount of problems with the sliding doors. there is a recall for newer models and they too have the exact same issues. the problems range from a grinding noise , auto doors not opening completely than closing. to the back of the door slightly opening then the beeping indicator is constantly on while driving. the battery is being drained because the doors never close completely. the center rollers are cheap plastic which i believe causes the grinding noise. once they wear out it gets worse. these are not some isolated complaints!! there are too many others with every year of the odyssey that have these issues !! and now i finally see a recall. all theses issues have happened during different times. some while stationary. some while driving. the worst one where the door literally fell off was parked in my drive way. (thank god) i took it to the dealership and they diagnosed the problem and rigged my door but it is not safe to drive. why was this not recalled a long time ago?? there are too many complaints to ignore this !! the newer models have been recalled for this exact problem . i owned an accord for 14 years over 300,000 miles. the best car i ever had. than bought this 2005 odyssey and just recently purchased a 2018 crv ex. it's wrong that honda does not back up their reputation.

Passenger rear sliding door fell off and is hanging by a single cable. car was in my home driveway.

Sliding door fell off

Passenger sliding rear door fell off track after having problems closing both automatically and manually. plastic rollers seem to have fallen apart. drivers sliding door makes weird noises & does not close properly in either automatic or manual mode. the vehicle was parked when the door fell off the track & was hanging by the cable.

When it get cold weather the sliding doors open while driving what if kids are sitting there has happened a few times i fixed it but every year same problem with cold and freezing weather doors don't close and if they do while driving will open by them self it has happened to me on highway and regular street my kids were sitting right by them when door opened thank god they were in seatbelts

We were out if town when our van's driver's side sliding door wouldn't close and it came off the track and i caught it luckily. we had to rig it up and drive it home. only to find out it's a common issue.

My sliding door off on me cause me to pull a muscle in my chest and put me in the emergency room.

The paint is chipped off the car slowly , and the electronic part of the car acting weird, the daisy door some times work automatically and some times not

1) i have occasional "check airbags" message popping up on the dashboard, which disappear after turning off/back on. it may happen while i am riding or when setting the gear to park and unplugging the seatbelt. consumer reports shows that there was a recall declared on airbags back on august 1, 2005 shortly after i bought this car on may, 2005. american honda said that there is no recall on airbags. i would still drive this car and by that reason decided contact nhtds. 2) rust on the body of the car above the rear right wheel is getting deeper. i have seen exactly the same spot rusted on other odysseys made in 2005 or later, when driving.

Sliding doors on the van hesitate to open and close properly and then eventually fall off the hinges

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the passenger side sliding door failed to open and close, and fell off the track without warning. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 184,577.

While stationary, light appears on dashboard indicating problem with passenger side sliding door. door will not open or close using any method. message stays on dashboard preventing me from seeing other important messages until a reset is done, i reset by removing a fuse, turning the key twice without turning the car on and putting the fuse back in. that's a temporary fix because the problem returns after opening and closing the door a couple of times. many honda owners have reported this problem to honda and indicated online the same problem which involved costly repairs that sometimes doesn't correct the problem. this is and has happened to enough owners of honda minivans that a recall is necessary.

Side door opened, automatic door cable jammed

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rear passenger side sliding door failed to open. also, while attempting to close the passenger side sliding door, the door became inoperable and detached from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the roller failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.

The driver's side sliding door completely locked in the open position saturday evening while out with my grandkids. my daughter's and i had to break the door off just to get home in the dark by securing the inside of the door with the seatbelt leaving one grandchild car seat unsecured. now the van is parked with the door as is in the rain. i can't drive to the dealer and i can't afford to have it towed there much less pay for any repairs. safety is a serious issue driving without a secure door.

We have owned out dark blue 2005 honda odyssey for approximately 5 years. recently, i am finding that the paint along the roof and side/front trim panels is chipping away. i have attempted to sand some of the bed spots and paint /protect again, but it is no use. the problem seems to be with the base layer below the blue paint. i have seen where this was identified, but i do not know where to go for more information on this defect the second area of concern is in the wiring for the radio and temperature control. there seems to be a loose wire or connection behind the panels. the back-lights for the radio and temperature control will turn on or off with no warning or indication as to why. the systems themselves work fine, it's only the visible lights that flicker, or turn off and on with no pattern. my fear is that it is an electrical problem that may cause a fire if the crossing of wires or shorting continues. this will happen when driving, sitting still, car off (power on), there is no common flag or trigger that would point to a problem. and all functions work (even when lights are off). also, the car just started to vibrate when acceleration between 55-65. my mechanic stated that this may be due to faulty axles or possibly the transmission, both of which have open issues with honda and to check with you first. *tr

Our 2005 honda odyssey vibrates, especially around 35-45 mph. honda told us that the engine mounts have broken and that is what is causing it. they are not a cheap fix. engine mounts, the last thing that you would think would go out on a vehicle! yet, when you go online, this apparently seems to be a massive problem with these vans. honda has a problem with their engine mounts braking and this seems to be ok with them. this is not ok. they need to take responsibility for this failure. we have already been through having to replace many other failures from honda throughout the years, including replacing the fuel cap before they recalled it. we will no longer be purchasing honda vehicles.

Around 10:30 am on wednesday, 1/13/16, driver-side sliding door would keep opening up "completely voluntarily" when the vehicle (2005 honda odyssey ex) was in motion and being operated on a local freeway. multiple attempts to close the door either using the remote/automatic door-closing switch by the steering wheel or manually (upon stopping the vehicle on the roadside) would not fix the issue. the sliding door kept opening up "voluntarily" once the vehicle was put back in motion / drive mode (attempt to operate the vehicle). the vehicle had to be driven back home, its normal parking location, with the sliding door open during the drive (approximately 10 miles from home).

On november 2015 we were traveling back from vacation. as we stopped for a bathroom break we opened the rear passenger side door opened and it would not close back. . it took several hours to get the door back on track in order for it to be shut. the door then did not open, causing a safety hazard. in case of an emergency i could bot use the door to get my children out. the end of february 2016, while dropping the children off at a babysitter, the driver rear passenger door opened and again would not close. i had the vehicle towed to a shop where i had to replace the cable, the motor and other components. i feel that this is a safety hazard to the body of the vehicle.

Was parked at grocery store when a cable snapped on our drivers side sliding door. power was lost to the door and upon attempting to close the manually the door fell off and could have potentially injured someone as the back of the doors corner hit the ground with enough force to crush if not sever a foot. this left our vehicle disabled and left us stranded.

Both my side doors have been been making noise. then my passenger side door would not open. we used the drivers side rear door instead. on thursday, june 11, 2015 while opening it the entire door fell off and smashed my foot. bruising and swelling on my big toe but nothing to go to er over. iced it and still hurting a few days later. called honda and they said it was normal wear and tear. my responsibility. out of warranty. researched online and this is a very common issue. doors falling off their vans! seems ridiculous and time for a recall. customer service rep said that it was my car and they were not responsible to repair it. i said that coincidentally i just had my van in for a recall (fuel pump - was smelling gas while driving it) so that's not entirely true. some things they do fix for free. this seems like a major problem. i opened the door for my 9-year-old daughter to get into the car. what is the door fell on her?

The paint is coming off my car in sheets. the people at the repair shop said they have seen this and that it was recalled by honda. honda will do nothing about my car. said old age. that isn't true. *tr

I was driving my children to school, ages 9 and 6, and as i was driving the sliding passenger door on the driver's side opened. my 6 year old daughter who was sitting next to the door said "mommy the door is opening". i was driving only about 10 to 15 mph and was able to immediately pull over and i kept on opening and closing the door and would appear to be closed but as i continued to drive it would open again. i continued to drive to school with my hazards on and if the door opened again i would have to pull over and open and close the door again. while this was happening we heard a continuous beeping noise like i would hear if the door was open. this incident scared my children and myself and should have never happened. i consider this to be a major safety flaw in this car and should be recalled. i have heard the beeping sound before when it is very cold but this is the first that the door actually opened while i was driving. *tr

This issue is related to the electric sliding doors for a 2005 honda odyssey ex. the right passenger electric sliding door stopped working when the odometer read 99722. at the time it stopped working, the van was parked in a parking lot. when the button was pressed to open the door, the door refused to open and a light went on the instrument panel "slide door". when i consulted the instruction manual, it said to take the vehicle to the dealer. i was really suspicious with the sudden failing of the door because up until that particular moment, the door was working fine. the way i opened the door and the weather conditions it was in remained the same from when the odometer read 99700 until the incident. when i did some research online, i found that i was not the only odyssey owner with this issue. it seems model years 2005-2010 have these electric sliding doors problems without any clear indication of issues beforehand. multiple reports have stated owners taking the vehicle to the dealer only to have the dealer charge thousands of dollars to fail diagnose the problem. i visited a forum that offered a solution to the problem. the solution stated to reset the internal computer by pulling a fuse labeled as "back up". i was skeptical of this solution because honda wouldn't design a vehicle that states an error with a door unless something was wrong with the door, for example the motor. however, given the circumstances in which the sliding door failed, i gave it a try and reset the internal computer. i started the engine back up and noticed immediately the error was gone which makes sense since the computer was reset. when i pushed the button to open the passenger electric door, the door opened normally without any hesitation of movement. i am now very concerned about the integrity of honda motor corporation. if help can be given, i would greatly appreciate it. thank you. *tr

Brought the car to a honda dealership (tony honda, waipahu hi 96797) for recall (fuel pump) and routine maintenance and two broken motor mounts were discovered (right side and rear side). was advised that repair of the two broken mounts would most likely lead to damage to the remaining mounts, which would then have to be replaced as well. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. in rainy weather, the contact observed water leaking into the trunk of the vehicle. the failure occurred every time it rained. the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 100,000.

The sliding doors rollers and latches are defective! the left door will not latch and it's a safety hazard with kids in the back! this needs to be recalled!! 2005 honda odyssey. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rear driver side sliding door failed to open and the rear passenger side sliding door would not close. the contact mentioned that both of the rear sliding doors were rusted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown. updated 12/16/14*lj updated 8/31/2017*cn

The driver's side sliding door closes, latches and then 5 seconds later unlatches itself electronically. the door refuses to close completely and can easily open when the vehicle is moving. this is a very unsafe condition especially if passengers are in the second seating row. this happened by itself over the life of the vehicle - i cannot pin an exact action that made this occur other than repeated usage. in order to keep the door from reopening, i had to remove the fuse (#7) that controls the power sliding doors. now only the passenger sliding door is used and must be operated manually. also remote power locks have been disabled because of removal of the fuse. very dangerous situation.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rear sliding door was not opening properly. the contact had to apply force to the sliding door in order to open it and to ensure that it was closed. the contact also stated that the window regulator was not contacting the lever arm properly. the vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the power window regulator needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 81,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rear driver and passenger side doors were fractured. the contact mentioned that the motor function to secure the doors became inoperable. the contact also stated that the instrument panel and all of the interior lighting in the vehicle failed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where the vehicle was repaired. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 107,000.

Our 2005 honda odyssey lx is having massive paint peeling issues. there was an extended warranty offered for this problem a few years ago and has since expired, but at the time of the warranty we did not notice a problem. it now has 60% paint loss on the roof and patches as large as a hand on the body are peeling. van is garage kept and well maintained. after contacting the honda dealership where van was purchased, we were told there were no honda reps in our area to inspect van and they don't expect one until next month or so. the service manager is aware of the issue but did not offer any suggestions other than to wait until the rep is available to inspect van. by the time the rep sees our van, we may have no paint left. *tr

Paint failure on roof and spreading. *tr

Criminal! both sliding doors on our 2005 honda odyssey minivan (children) do not close. not sure who is more culpable honda or the nhtsa.

For the second time, the passenger side power door on our car opened while we were driving. the doors are very troublesome, refusing to close, shutting on passengers and emit a loud beeping noise when not able to latch. no matter what we do, we cannot get the noise to stop and have to put the door in manual to get the noise to stop. after the first time the door opened, i took it to the dealer who said the mechanisms were fine and it was probably a string. yesterday it opened about 5 inches when i had a child in that seat. the dealer told us today there is nothing they can do unless they can recreate it. honda told us to make sure the kids wear seat belts. an online search proved our situation is not unique. we are shopping for a new car, but are astonished at the lack of care honda has about the safety of their clients. *tr

Hi i purchased used honda odyssey touring 2005 and driving the same present meter reading is 160k. i did not get any service records of the vehicle from previous owners and could not know whether these problems exists previously also. one day left sliding door of the touring could not open manually and auto also. after a week a time it started opening it self. later i found the front passenger door and tail gate door or back trunk door are locked and can not open with electrical switches and also can not open manually also. it is serious safety issue not able to open manually also in case any accident which may take life of person not able to come out of the van. i would like to complain about this feature in this vehicle and i did not approach the honda company about this problem. please suggest me to take further action. *tr

During cold weather, the automatic rear passengers doors failed to close and lock properly, allowing the doors to open. this only seems to happen when the temperature gets below 32 degrees. problem is the van is kept in garage where it is warm, but when out of the garage (away from home) and this happens, no way to safely get home with the doors not closed properly, especially with children in the back. *tr

Tl* the contact owns 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rear driver's side door would not latch closed and the failure would recur intermittently for six months. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 3,000. updated 06/27/14*lj the consumer stated while driving the door opened, cable snapped, then came off the brackets. updated 07/1/2014 *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rollers broke on the rear driver's side door, causing the door to become detached from the hinge. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 130,000.

Steering wheel severe vibrations while driving on highway at 50 up to 70 mph went to auto mechanic and replaced 2 engine mounts ($1113 total). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated the rear liftgate struts failed and the door closed abruptly when being accessed. the liftgate was manually operated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 10v0550 (structure). the manufacturer was notified and they informed the contact that the vin was not included in the recall campaign. the approximate failure mileage was 91,000.

Both latches on sliding doors have been replaced twice now, while driving the doors come unlatched although they do not open they are unlatched and this is a serious safety concern. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the liftgate failed and had to be held open. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the struts needed to be replaced. the contact spoke with the manufacturer about the failure due to a recall on the 2008-09 models but the manufacturer stated that it did not pertain to the 2005 model year. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was not available. the current mileage was 145,000. *tr

Power sliding door on 05' honda odyssey fell off when unloading my children from the vehicle. the middle bracket/strut that holds the sliding door on the center rail along the side of the van totally failed. i was at the bus stop with my children and the door fell off as i opened the door to help my child out. i was mortified as you might imagine. two men came to my rescue just after my son jumped out of the way. the door has concerned me for some time but i never heard of a sliding door falling off nor did the dealer mention it. previously, the door would click when we closed it and the automatic door would beep and fail to close. we had the door checked during a routine service appointment 2-3 years ago. the dealer said it was a sensor or possibly a motor issue. no one said anything about the door possibly falling off - nor did they mention any potential bracket failure. i would have had that bracket fixed had they even hinted that this could happen. but what's also very disturbing is that a friend with an '07 is having significant problems with her doors as well. after my incident, she immediately went and had her door brackets checked and found hers were also imminently close to complete failure. they were replaced. she has special needs children and a door failure for her could be catastrophic. the day of this event i called two area dealers. both service counter reps acknowledged this bracket issue. parents really need to be warned about this. i fear honda corporate may be ignoring the issue when children may be hurt. this isn't a starter or a transmission - it's a door. please investigate the issue and at least issue a safety bulletin or recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 honda odyssey. the contact stated that the rear passenger's sliding door would not close automatically. the vehicle was taken to dealer for diagnosis. the contact was unaware of the necessary repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000.

Large patches of paint have come off the hood, roof and above the passenger-side sliding door. washing the car with a standard garden hose nozzle results in paint actually flying off these body panels as if it were being sand blasted. the first time i noticed this (october 2012) was less than one year after the extended warranty (dealing with this precise problem) ran out. up until this time, there was no problem with the paint so it wouldn't have occurred to the original owner to avail himself of the extended warranty. *tr
