On average, the 2010 Honda Civic starts to “feel” problems with the SERVICE BRAKES and its various aspects after 42 983 miles.

Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2010 Honda Civic

Squealing noise comes and goes. months later it returned and lasted for longer intervals. took it to the dealer and was told the brakes needed replacing. the car is only 2 years old and less than 20,000 miles. all driving is done locally. have been a long-time owner of hondas and have never had this problem. it is not a "usual" issue. this is clearly a poorly made vehicle. *tr

Purchased car new from honda dealership. front brake pads replaced the first time at approximately 15000 along with a faulty caliper, they were replaced again in approximately 30000 miles (6 months later). now the wheel alignment is completely off at just around just over 34000 miles. there are numerous complaints related to the brake problem with this year vehicle as well as a class action lawsuit out of california. doing some research, i found out that there very well could be a link between the alignment problem and the brakes. *js

There was a lot of noise from the front end. i took to the dealer (mary sussman honda, abington, pa) and they told me i needed a front end brake job (pads, rotor polishing etc). two days ago (9/27/12) i had to take to have my rear bearing replaced and they told me i needed front brakes again. now mileage is 44,500, so only ~18,000 miles from last repair. i think two brake jobs at 40k miles is not right. *tr

I drove my car onto a major highway, speed limit 70 mph. entering the highway my car accelerated from 70-79 by itself with my abs kicking in at the same time. not allowing me to brake. nearly causing a pile up, i exited immediately turning into a shopping center to park my car. with two passengers in the car with me, i proceeded into the lot, up a hill when i could feel my car accelerating by itself. with my passengers in disbelief, i lifted my right foot in the air so they could see, my car accelerated from 0-21 mph by itself, up a hill. scared out of my mind, i pulled my car over and parked it. i contacted honda, took my car in for service only to find out that they "have never heard of this issue before" and that this was their first time looking into such a possibility. a couple days later after they blamed this issue on my "third party floor mats" and advised me to take them out of my car, i did. i drove without the floor mat for two weeks, to make sure that it was my car acting up and not the mats. sure enough, my car acted up 2 more times in those two weeks. the first time it happened in traffic, in the middle of a bunch of stop lights. i would brake a little too early & attempt to coast in traffic to the car in front of me, i'd take my foot off the brake and the car would fully accelerate all by itself, causing me to slam my brakes. second occurrence, was when i was getting into my car, turned it on, but never put it into gear or even shut my door, the engine started revving with rpms up in the "reds". multiple times. after taking my car in a second time, they were once again blaming these problems on my floor mats and that they weren't going to service or take care of anything at all, i am writing this complaint to further enforce that the 2010 honda civic needs to be recalled. the computers are defective and honda is doing absolutely nothing about it. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 honda civic. the contact stated that an abnormal grinding noise was heard from the brakes emitted while driving at various speeds. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and all of the brakes were replaced. the failure recurred a few months later. the vehicle was again taken to an independent mechanic where the brakes were replaced a second time. the manufacturer offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 7,600. updated 10/11/12*lj updated 10/15/2012 *js

Brakes wear out too fast: 1st time was at 15000 miles and not\w need again at 32000 miles. i googled website and found many has same problem. something wrong with the car's brake system. the maker should take responsibility. *tr

Since purchasing my 2010 honda civic new, i have had to replace the front brakes twice, first at 8,044 miles and just recently again at 15,770 miles. it is apparent this model has a problem with premature brake wear that honda has refused to address. *tr

I had to replace the brakes on my honda a year after purchase. no matter what breaks i replace them with the brakes seam to wear-out very fast. since my purchase in 2010 i have replaced the breaks on the honda several times (2011, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016), it almost seams to be needing replacement every year. also since 2013, the paint on the car seams to be pealing, cracking, and has became very cloudy. i will not purchase a honda again.

I have a 2010 honda civic that i leased in may of 2010. it is now january 3, 2013 and i have changed the brakes 3 times already. there is definitely a problem with the brakes wearing too immaturely. *tr

I leased our brand new 2010 honda civic on 05/31/2010. primarily i used the vehicle to commute from/to work. i am a very responsible driver and took a good care of the vehicle changing oil regularly, check liquids, etc. while driving on a highway on a sunny dry day on 07/28/2011 in the left lane with average speed 40 mph, the traffic ahead of me slowed down and i applied brakes and the brakes failed (did not work). i heard a metal sound and pushed a pedal stronger. i think the vehicle probably did not slow at all. i turned left to a shoulder in attempt to stop a vehicle and avoid a direct collision with a vehicle in front of me. i believe i could get much worse injuries if i had not done this turn. driving in a shoulder i pushed the brake pedal as hard as i could and tried to straighten my car's trajectory and stop it in a shoulder, but my car fishtailed out of control, consistently deviating to the left where concrete highway divider was and did not stop. very loud noise was coming out of the front of the vehicle all the time since i applied brakes, which prove that the brakes failed. i constantly tried to straighten it until my car collided in to the vehicle in the left lane. a result of this was a four car accident and eight body injuries including myself. and the worst part was my insurance company consider it to be my fault!!! i called honda several times asking them to take the vehicle for brakes inspection because obviously there was something very wrong with my vehicle. and it most likely was a manufacturing defect which can cause more accidents/injuries in the future. after the accident a car was not drivable. they advised me to hire a tow truck $150 on my own expense and bring a car there and have paid checkup, which can be anything between $500 and $2,000. my car was 18k miles when the accident happened. be careful with that car!!! *js

I have a 2010 honda civic with 70,000 miles on it. i have already replace the brakes twice and at my oil change today the mechanic informed me that i would need to replace the brakes again. this will be the third time in 2 1/2 years that i have had to replace the brakes. each time it has been an out of pocket expense and honda has accepted no responsibility. *tr

Customer stated squeel noise heard from left front wheel area, best heard when swerving back and forth verified by honda technician on road test. honda dealer replaced front brake pads, resurfaced front brake rotors & lubed caliper slide pins for a total of out of pocket expense of $261.48. second incident, again the metallic grinding sound heard from the front end at 19,344 miles on 6/9/12. technician found front brakes pads worn out. honda dealer replaced front brake pads and resurfaced front brake rotors at another out of pocket expense of $265.32. third incident, again the metallic grinding sound heard from the front end at 30,906 miles on 8/10/13. technician found front brakes pads worn out. honda dealer replaced front brake pads and resurfaced front brake rotors at another out of pocket expense of $528.25! please take note that since purchase the civic has undergone 3 times replacement of brake pads and rotor resurfacing, i.e., an average yearly occurence which customer thinks is out of the ordinary. the last service having the most exhorbitant charge for the same service. *tr

I was driving to school and heard the first dreadful, squealing alert of my wearing brake pads. i called my local honda dealer and asked what might be going on as i was a first time vehicle owner. they told me that my brake pads were surly worn out and blamed me that it was because of my driving habits, or i was racing. at this point i began to laugh in disbelief. they told me to come in so they can inspect the pads. i went in and when i received the car they told me my brakes had been changed and i would not be paying anything since they were changed under warranty. not too long after, the same squealing noise began and this time around i knew the drill. ever since i've had to replace my brakes many times, about 5 to be exact, and only at 60k miles. not to mention, im beginning to worry a bit because my brakes since the recently last time i changed my pads, the response in braking has been very bad. i do fear for my safety sometimes. especially for my siblings' safety when i ride them to school. please help the thousands of consumers that are in the same boat as i am. *tr

Brake does not function well. i have to push it hard to have enough power to stop even when the speed is very low. i also notice that when the air condition is on, brake works worse. i believe there might be a self-acceleration problem especially when the air condition is on. *tr
