We have classified the 115 complaints from 2007 Honda Civic about SUSPENSION into the following categories.
2007 honda civic ex: uneven tire ware caused by rear fixed upper control arms. the alignment cannot be adjusted. the problem shows up with a roaring noise from the rear tires. if the problem is not fixed, then sever tire damage may develop causing a tire failure, accidents, property damage, tetc. *tr
I got the car from my grandfather and it had about 20000 miles on it, after about putting 6000 miles on it myself i had to replace the tires and i always noticed the car was loud while driving and just figured it was normal and i guess i got used to it although anyone who rode in it would mention the load noise(like having mud tires on it). well after about 5 sets of tires(the car now has 120,000 miles) i just now (2013) started looking into why the car has a loud noise and came across the service bulletin issue involving the rear suspension problems. i called corporate honda and they admitted they had defective parts on the civics and said i waited too late to complain!??? i even told her i didn't care about the $ i was out on all the tire sets i just wanted the issue fixed by them. she actually told me it was my responsibility to go to a honda dealership and read the service bulletins and it was my fault that i am having this problem. this has to be legally taken care of! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. the contact stated that both of the rear tires on the vehicle were becoming worn due to the rear upper arm stabilizer. the honda manufacturer stated that they would replace the upper arm control for free if the contact pays for new tires. while driving over 50 mph, the vehicle vibrates violently. the failure mileage was 16,000. updated 03-04-09 *bf updated 03/23/09. *lj upadted 03/23/09. *jb
I have a 07' civic si sedan. i had to replace my rear tires as well. i tried to have the rear alignment done, but the rear control arm were out and are not adjustable. the dealer stated there is a problem w/ the arms but it did not come out including the si, only the lx & ex. i hope it is just a matter of time before they include the si. it is the same part #. *tr
Excessive vibration where it feels like the back end of the car is jumping up and down. also has extremely loud tire noise. tires have excessive wear. dealer said i just need new tires, and when searching for new tires on internet, i discovered that others have this problem. *tr
Extremely severe tire ware on rear tires of 2007 honda civic, 12,000 miles and the rear tires are worn to the belts on inside edge. rear alignment appears to be wrong from the factory. have been told by american honda that there may be an issue with the rear control arms. *tr
I purchased a slightly used civic from a dealer in january of 2009 and began to drive it on icy roads in ontario winter. my wife who usually drives the car complained she was scared to drive it if there was any ice on the road surface because the car would suddenly shift position sideways in the lane. i found the rear tires worn out very fast on the inside of both wheels. i did some research and found out honda had issued a service bulletin to replace the rear upper struts with a longer unit. the dealer did not disclose this information when i bought the car but after i brought it up volunteered to replace them and negotiated with me for half the replacement cost of the tires. i thought this would solve the problem. the next set of rear tires also wore prematurely on the inside in about 25000 miles. when i called the honda dealer he told me i needed an alignment. i paid for an alignment at an independent garage and was told the real wheels could not b adjusted to correct the negative camber. i went back to the dealer who told me that honda did not recognize this defect and the warranty would not cover any remedy. he did a free realignment for me with difficulty and said to rotate my tires more often. i tried that and my next set of tires wore out on the inside just the same. the dealer did say there was an aftermarket part that may correct the problem but i would have to pay for the installation ($600). i have about 180000 kilometers on the vehicle.the vehicle makes rear noise and the vibration cannot be good for the vehicle. this could be a safety issue. *tr
I was experiencing loud road noise from the trunk area as well as uneven tire wear on both rear tires. this vehicle has 36250 miles on it. i have had the vehicle to my mechanic to determine the cause of the noise and tire wear. they were unable to find a root cause. after doing research i found that honda is aware of this problem on the civic, but they have not notified owners of the potential for high-cost repairs and new tires. *tr
The control arms on my vehicle are defective and were part of a service advisement. the issue is causing excessive tire wear and tire cupping. this is a serious issue which has the high potential to cause an accident and injuries. i am replacing my tires frequently due to the excessive wear and tear. i am angry that a recall has not been issued due to the seriousness of this matter. i will not let my teenagers drive this car, and am in fact reluctant to drive it myself (i work from home thank goodness).i am surprised a recall similar to the ford firestone has not been issued. i would like for you to contact me on this matter. *tr
My 2007 civic ex coupe currently has a mileage of 66,000 and i'm having my fourth set of tires installed today, all of which were properly maintained and rotated. i've had 2 highway-speed blowouts in the last year, and somehow managed to avoid serious accidents both times. all of this is on top of the ridiculously loud road noise generated by this issue. the inside rim of both rear tires wear excessively fast. i was unaware of any manufacturing issue as honda has not issued a recall for this very serious problem. apparently people have to start dying in sufficient numbers before honda will fix this issue with a recall.*cw *tr
Excessive and premature rear tire wear due to defective rear upper control arms. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving approximately 25 mph, a loud whining noise emitted from the rear of the vehicle. the contact continued to drive. the vehicle was taken to a tire center three different times for the similar failure where the replacement of both rear tires was performed each time. the tires defect was due to premature wear which was contributed to the faulty rear upper control arms. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 20,000. the vin was not available.
My complaint is that honda has (1) knowingly put in faulty (suspension parts) upper control arms in the front & back of the honda civic, (2) failed to inform customers of the problem (a recall is needed), (3) failed to properly reimburse customers for the tire damage due to the faulty control arms installed in the vehicles. i bought my honda civic used at around 13k miles. since then, i've needed an alignment every month. despite this my tires became excessively worn at 27k. i went to two honda service stores (mission valley & pacific honda in san diego) to complain about the excessive need for alignments, road noise, & tire wear. they knowingly withheld information & failed to inform me of the service bulletin 08-001 since they would be required to replace the upper control arms (a warranty item) that they didn't want to replace. in the service bulletin, honda informs the dealers of common complaints related to tire wear & suspension & advises them to replace the rear control arms on the honda civic. honda also will reimburse customers pro-rata for tire replacement if they have less than 25k in mileage. if hadn't have done my own research on the internet, i would not have known about this service bulletin. i took my car in around 26k so that they could replace my rear control arms. they did this for free but said i didn't qualify to get my tires replaced since i was over the 25k threshold. if i had known about the bulletin, i would have been able to get my tires replacement by honda earlier. it was their faulty parts that led my tires to wear excessively in the first place. i had to shell out $650 to replace my tires at around 26k miles. i've probably spent $500 dollars in alignments because of the control arms too. honda should own up to the faulty parts entirely and stand by their product. see honda service bulletin 08-001. *tr
Car: honda 2007 civic si complaint: car has been driven normally. excessive inner tire wear on rear wheels eats tires to the threads. tire must be inspected closely since most of it will appear with plenty of tread. this is a safety issue and honda has already issued a service bulletin on many 2006/2007 civic (but this excludes the si). the problem is identical on the si but honda will not cover it as a defect. honda refuses to acknowledge that this is an issue with the 2007 civic si. *tr
2007 honda civic with uneven rear tire wear that is noticeable at 5000 miles and cups rear tires so bad by 10000 miles that there is so much noise in vehicle it sounds like the wheel bearings are shot. by 15000 miles the tires are showing cords because of uneven wear. took it to dealer and they replaced arms on rear, sold me new tires for rear, and realigned vehicle. said problem was corrected. now have 11000 miles on new tires installed with same problem on new rear tires. dealer will not fix problem. looked on internet at same complaints on same year honda civic about uneven tire wear. same problem across country with dealer not knowing how to fix and says it is an alignment problem that they will not fix. this is going to be a big problem as these cars are slowly placed into the used car market and tires are a second thought because if you are standing beside the car, the tread looks brand new while looking down on the tire and you assume it is not the source of the noise and keep driving on them. at interstate speeds a tire failure could be fatal. *tr
I purchased new 2007 civic in november 2006, got a recall for rear bearing possibly needing changing dec 2007, i also noticed the inside of my rear tires wearing, so while warranty work was done jan 2007, i had car aligned, i did not pay much attention until this week 12/3, and i noticed my right rear tire was "slick" wow, and more vwow, i took it immediately to dealer, pointed out what we had done in january, and had them look at tires: 2 front tires had lots of tread, left rear was almost "slick" right rear is "slick"... they told me that their was a "bulletin" out, not recall to replace the upper control arms on the rear of the car, no cost, free alignment, but i had to pay for 2 new tire, at their "cost" $258 with tax.....i am very disappointed honda did not at least send me a note even a email alerting me to the fix....when they knew i was going to have this problem.....bridgestone tire will love it....i thing honda show come clean on this very dangerous problem, and pay for fix and prorated wear on my tires.......*tr
Premature tire wear and failure due to rear upper control arm suspension defect. *tr
I am having rear suspension arm control issues with my honda i bought this car new it now has under 30,000 and needs the rear arm controls replaced, this has been recalled on other civic's but not on mine. i have contacted honda corporation, and have not gotten a answer back from them. i have looked on like to find that many other civic si owners are having the same problems. i am not only having to replace this faulty part, but to replace tires multiple time!... *tr
Problem with qucik tire wear due to control arm problem in rear end. honda civic si. they acknowledge the problem withthe civic model but exclude the si tsb 08-001. *tr
Me and my fiance purchased a 2007 honda civic si. this is the second 07 si we have owned. on both of the civics i had that problem with 3rd gear popping out and also grinds sometimes going into 3rd. about three weeks ago the car started driving funny, and the rear end was slightly moving side to side on the highway. i checked and noticed the tires were almost gone in the rear. with only 22000 miles the tires should not be wearing down so all of the wires are showing in the tire. i was trying to figure out what was causing it. i already knew the alignment was off, but i just felt like something else was wrong. i called my dad and told him what was going on. a couple days later he found a whole bunch of complaints about 2006-2007 civics, with excessive wearing of the back tires. it turns out there are a whole bunch of people with this same problem. it is caused by bad control arms in the back of the car. i also found out that honda has made a bulletin of this, but has not yet issued a recall. i called the manager to where we bought the car, and told him that my tires we wore down to the wires. according to him he considered that normal wear. now that i know of this problem, i got in contact with the service manager who is looking at my car on monday. i have printed off all of the complaints and the pics of their tires so i can show him. if i would have known this about the car i would have not purchased it. i have always owned honda\'s, but i am not very impressed with this 07 si. my 1991 integra runs and drives a hell of a lot better. i am also calling honda\'s customer service to make a complaint. they will only repair cars to your complaint if you have any of these problems. *tr
I have a 2007 honda civic that i bought new. i have had it serviced regularly, and each time i have told the dealer that i hear a loud noise in the rear. they have repeatedly told me that the noise is normal for my model and tires. the noise became so bad that i insisted they do something. they now say that the rear upper control arms must be replaced and that the car must be aligned and that my tires are ruined. the damage to the tires has caused a serious safety condition. they replaced the rear control arms, but i still have the bad tires. the car is still under warranty. this is a serious and dangerous defect. there should be a recall. *tr
Noticed uneven tire wear and vibration on my honda civic hybrid, and notified honda service about this issue when i brought in the car for oil change. the service department looked at the car and said that the rear tires were worn, and this was due to rear suspension problem. honda would cover the cost of that fix, but i also needed four new tires -- not covered by honda. he offered to move the rear tires up front and just focus on the rear ($280 for two tires). after researching the issue and finding that there was a service bulletin issued last spring, i declined to have two worn tires with evidence of cupping put on the front of a front wheel drive car. i asked why i hadn't been notified of this design flaw when i had brought in the car for a pre-roadtrip check in july (he said if i did not tell him to look for rear tire wear they wouldn't look) or why he didn't note it two weeks later when i brought the car in because the a/c had failed on the trip (another known defect, i now realize). the car also seems to have an electric switching irregularity, which has yet to be diagnosed. the service rep said unless i specifically ask, they wouldn't have looked for the rear suspension issue -- even though there had been a service bulletin -- because "not every civic has the problem." i cannot imagine that at 15,600 miles (where it was in july) that the tires did not then have signs of uneven wear that now has necessitated tire replacement at 19,000 miles. i replaced two tires, one of which honda covered. we have issued a complaint with honda to cover the cost of two other new tires, which they said would be resolved within three working days. *tr
We bought this car new from the dealer in '07. we have been putting 3 to 4 sets of tires on this car per year, for the last five years, that is not acceptable....it runs in to money and is very unsafe in the winter time. while checking on the internet, i found alot of other people with the same problem. we all feel this should be a recall. even replacing the rear upper control arms does not fix the problem, we have tried, and so have others. this comes from the factory. honda prides themselves on safety...this is not safe...the car is constantly fighting with itself on the road therefore wearing tires. please consider a recall on this vehicle. 08 001 was a code i read on the internet, i'm not sure what this is, but sutherland honda in fredericton, n.b. will not make any compensations for this defect. honda knows about this problem, but as of yet will not do a recall. please help us before someone gets killed on the highways. *tr
2007 honda civic has a problem with the tires. consumer states that the tires have uneven wear caused by defective control arms. *nj the manufacturer was willing to replace the rear control arms, but not the tires. *jb
My 2007 honda civic ex started to vibrate excessively at highway speeds and there was an incredibly loud "howling" noise coming from the back tires. i took it in repeatedly and was told that my tires were fine, and that essentially i was imagining this problem and or blowing it out of proportion. it was only recently that i learned of honda's service bulletin 08-001 for uneven and or rapid tire wear. with information in hand, i went back to the dealership to which they acted like they knew nothing of the bulletin. after keeping my car for the day, they said in the first call that it was due to lack of rotation (even though) i rotate every 10k ,then they call back and say that my back two tires are worn-out; but the wear is not comparable to the wear that would fall under the bulletin. they then proceed to tell me that it is typical to have to replace your tires every 30-40k miles. i have owned 7 hondas and have never had to replace tires that soon. it is just amazing to me that i have detailed every symptom in that bulletin, prior to even knowing that it existed and they are going to tell me that it has nothing to do with the rear upper control arm. i am taking it to another honda dealership and will continue to do so until the problem is resolved. i am severely disappointed in honda. *tr
Rear tire noise and vibration from 25,000 miles on. visual inspection shows flat spots on both rear tires. took in for service and honda service related that there was an updated version of the rear suspension control arm which they replaced for free. however they were not willing to replace or even prorate tire wear stating that 30k miles warranted no replacement. front tires show no wear at all. the tires have worn to a unsafe level and honda has known about this service related problem for months. i have not received any notification from honda on recalls or service bulletins. serious safety issue. *tr
Rear shock of honda 2007 honda civic failed. brought the car in for service. informed that failure was possible due to issues with the rear suspension control arm( tsa# 10024687). rear tires showed excessive wear and needed to be replaced as a result of the suspension issues. the car was still under the bumper to bumper warranty yet honda would only cover 50% of the cost of replacing the tires. they covered full cost of replacing the control arm. *tr
Rear control arm need to be replaced. this is a safety issue that honda for some reason doesn't want to do a recall on. this problem has made my tires wear faster than usual. honda is offering very little towards replacing my tires. i have 17,000 miles on my car. my part was ordered a week ago and still waiting for it to come in. this is covered under warranty. i feel honda should put new tires on my leased car. this is a safety issue and i worry about my long distance driving. is this part going to break and have my tires fall off???? i have filed a complainant with honda. i think honda should stand behind their product and replace the tires. *tr
This complaint concerns the defect on the honda 2006-2007 civic of the rear upper control arms. i had mine replaced after only 15 months of use because they were incorrectly manufactured, causing loud vibrations at normal highway driving speeds. this defect also caused excessive and not normal ware on my tires causing me to have to replace them at my own expense instead of on honda's dollar as they wore down due to a honda related issue. *tr
I am on my 3rd set of tires on a car that has 58,000 miles. research shows that this is a common problem on honda civics for 2006-2007. there seems to be a problem/defect in the design of the car and honda is not standing behind their product. we need help. *tr
I purchased a 2007 honda civic hybrid in september of 2007. i follow regular maintenance schedules as recommended by my dealer. as of 8-18-2008, my vehicle had over 12000 miles on it. the day prior to a regularly scheduled oil change, tire rotation and misc. inspection, i encountered a flat tire. upon inspection of the flat tire and other rear tire, it was noted that both rear tires were completely bald. both tires were replaced that same day. on the following day, i took my car to my scheduled appointment at the honda dealer. i expressed my concern that i felt there was a problem that led to premature wear on the rear tires and that i also wanted to be reimbursed for the cost of the new tires. in my conversation with the service manager, i was told that they suspected the problem was due to a "control arm" issue and he told me that they have seen this issue many times beginning with the 2006 model. ultimately, they replaced/ repaired the control arm at no charge, photographed the tires, retained the damaged tires and offered to attempt to secure a refund to cover the cost of new tires. i expressed my strong opinion that honda should have made this potential problem aware to all honda customers. i believe it is a huge safety issue and i feel fortunate that my family and i were not involved in an accident due to rapid wear of the tires. after this experience, i did some internet research and was astounded to read of many incidents that were nearly identical to mine. it looks as though this issue is very common to the honda civic and many people have the same complaints. this issue needs immediate attention and i am concerned about the safety of all individuals riding/driving in these vehicles. i am considering selling my civic hybrid. i will continue to try to bring attention to this issue. *tr
I bought a new 07 honda civic si sedan. the rear upper control arms are not adjustable. in fact they are built to give the rear tires more negative camber for better traction around turns. if i put two people in the back of the car it gives me even more negative camber and with that my i go through tires quick. i have even noticed that when driving through snow the car wants to change lanes by itself. i still have not had this problem taken care of. all they have to do is put adjustable control arms in the rear like the other civics. it does not make sense to me. i can see this being a safety issue if some one was using this as a family car and never checked there back tires. this problem can lead to premature tire wear and blow outs. i have to rotate my tires every 2k miles and we mostly just drive down a straight freeway. *tr
2007 honda civic lx vibrates excessively at approximately 70 mph shaking driver and passengers to the point that conversation via bluetooth hands free device is greatly impaired. the vibration has already led to early tire wear and the vehicle pulls to the right when driving. i have already paid for wheel alignment twice and replaced both rear tires once and a second rear tire a second time seemingly due to this problem. i also fear damage to the vehicle or that there will be threatened vehicle safety, as the car feels like it is shaking apart at times. the vibration/shaking occurs all times that the vehicle approaches 70 mph and many times at slower speeds. on-line research has shown a too-short rear arm in the vehicle suspension causing a number of similar problems in several 2007 vehicles. honda has so far shown no acknowledgement of a problem in this arena nor offered to do anything about it. *tr
I was experiencing excessive tire noise from the rear of my 2007 civic lx coupe. i also felt a slight shimmy coming from the rear of the car. i had the tires rotated and immediately began hearing a much more pronounced hum/vibration noise coming from the front of the car. additionally, there was very perceivable shimmy on the steering wheel between 50 and 60 mph. i concluded that whatever was wrong in the back of the car was now transferred to the front and it had to be tires. i took the vehicle to my local honda dealer and they confirmed that flat spots had developed on the front tires (which had been on the rear until the day before). these flat spots were the cause of the vibration/hum. they also informed me that honda does not warranty tires. the dealer said i needed to replace both front tires and that i should also allow them to replace the rear control arm as a warranty repair. the dealer never actually said that the original factory rear control arms lead to my premature tire wear. they only said that honda was advising customers to have them replaced as a warranty repair. i had to pay for two replacement tires and labor - about $280. *tr
Rear tire howling from 12,000 miles on and were wearing very quickly on the inside which is not visible from casual glance. the tires worn down to a unsafe level and honda has known about this service related problem for months and never notified me as a owner and i had the vehicle in there twice for service. the upper rear control arms were replaced at 22,000 miles and they refused to do any tire coverage even though the failure caused the problem. i feel this is a major safety concern as i did not notice it on time to keep the tire from being worn to a point of safety concern. i hope you can do something to help warn consumers whom may have bad hearing and may not notice this until the rear tires can blow out on the inside. *tr
Noticed rough ride and noise from back of car. on inspecting, can see where the tread is separating from the tire. took car to local firestone dealership and was told they have had 8 2007 honda civics with the same problem recently. they stated this is a known problem at honda. dealership is giving me the run-around. oh yes, car has 24k miles and was purchased new. *tr
I have a 2007 honda civic lx with 12040 mile, that developed excessive road tire noise, and excessive tire wear on the inner tread of the rear tires. i took the car to the dealer and they installed the upper rear control arm kit, replaced the flange bolts and the worn rear tires. (honda service bulletin 08-001) the dealer did this all in less than one hour. car ran great when i left the dealership, no excessive road-tire noise. 10,000 miles later (total car mileage 22040) i have the same noise & tire wear problems. this time the tires are wearing on the outer edge of the tread. i took it back to the dealer , they said that i need two new rear tires and a four wheel alignment. they said if i buy a pair of tires from them ($275.00) that they would give me a complementary alignment. (four wheels alignment should have been done when the arms & tires were replaced at 12050 miles under service bulletin 08-001) well, i believe the cause of the second noise & tire wear was do to the first visit to the shop at 12050 mile, when they replaced the upper control arms, two rear tires was that didn't finish the job! the last thing to do (per service bulletin 08-001) is to do a 4-wheel alignment!!!!. no where on the first work order ticket does it say that a four wheel alignment was done. the car was in the shop less than a hour, flat rate time for arms replacement and 2 tires is 1.3 hours. great job twin-city honda ! ! *tr
Tire noise started develop months ago, and got worse on honda civic 2007 with less than 8000 miles. today, honda s/b 08-001 was done, but tires are not replaced. all four tires have quite noticeable cupping, especially rear inside. since i drive carefully to achieve 49mpg avg i got on this hybrid on suburban blvds, i believe honda needs to replace tires at their cost as well without prorated schedule mentioned on the s/b. *tr
Purchased 2007 honda civic ex on 3/10/07. on 8/7/07 took car in for routine maint. oil pan drain plug replaced. on 8/9/07 steering system made noise when turning. took to dealer, no problem found. on 10/8/07 took car back to dealer with same issue. dealer said "during assembly some rear wheel speed sensors may have been improperly installed and do not seal the hub assembly. sensors were inspected and they deemed no repair necessary. on 12/26/07 took car to dealer for same noise when turning wheel. steering wheel locked up when driving!! when accelerating, car made a whining type of noise. dealer kept my car over night and found p/s pump whining due to no fluid in system. p/s rack was leaking. power steering reservoir was empty. found power steering rack leaking from both ends. replaced power steering rack and realigned wheels. on 7/7/08 took car to dealer, steering wheel locked up again while driving. still have noise when turning the steering wheel back and forth. dealer kept my car for 3 days without giving a loner to me. when dealer did diagnostic, they pulled up 7 codes and stated "gauge control lost communication, may be old codes related to past repairs. did not find a cause for steering to lock. found that the noise when turning the wheel was caused from the seal at the firewall was rubbing on steering shaft. corrected insulation and found when at idle and turning wheel, hood vibrated and made a noise. they adjusted rubber stoppers and rechecked saying it is all ok. now, today on 7/17/08 i had steering wheel lock up on me for a brief second. took my car to a mechanic i know and they told me to fill out this form. they said the noise i hear in my steering column should have been fixed by dealer. i called dealer at 3 pm today and will be taking my car back to dealer tomorrow morning at 9. my car is still randomly having the steering freeze on me when driving, the noise when turning my steering wheel, and i now have a crackling noise in my a/c! *tr
The rear control arms are known to be defective in honda civics. i have had my car repaired but due to tire wear this could result in a safety issue if people do not push their dealerships to make the repair. as of yet american honda motor corp has not issued a recalled even though they are aware of this suspension problem. they have issued a tsb, 08-001, on this problem. *tr
I recently purchased a used 2007 honda civic, and noticed on my first drive at highway speeds that the rear tires made quite a bit of noise. upon inspection by a local mechanic, he determined that the tires were cupped and unusually worn for a car with only 18,000 miles on the odometer. i had the tires replaced. since that time i have researched the issue and found that there is a rear suspension control arm service bulletin from honda regarding this problem, but no official recall. i will contact my local dealer regarding this service bulletin, but since i had the tires replaced i'm worried that they will not see a "problem" and will not fix the issue. i feel that there is enough evidence for the nhtsa to force honda to issue a recall on this, as the uneven and rapid tire wear is an expensive and potentially deadly situation caused by honda's mistake.
I have a 2007 honda civic. recently noticed a noise from the undercarriage, which sounded like what i have heard before as a result of tire wear. but with just over 15,000 miles, didn't think this was likely. contacted the dealer where i purchased the car and made an appointment to have an assessment done. the dealer confirmed all four tires bad, inside tire wear and cupping. suggested i replace the tires with a new set of kumho brand tires, replace the rear upper control arms and do a 4 wheel alignment. tire treadwear 6/32 and 7/32. since i had not rotated the tires, i figured the front treadwear was partially my fault, but had concerns about the rear tires because i could not remember such problems in prior automobiles i have owned. was also puzzled by the need to replace the rear upper control arms in a car with 15,772 miles. would have had the work done though, as we were headed on vacation, but estimated work time was 3 hours. mechanic said no safety problems and i decided to continue on to tennessee on vacation. besides, wanted time to think about the rear tires and control arms. tonight was researching the problem on the www. and easily found individual stories from civic owners with the same problems. one web site had information about honda finally acknowledging rear suspension problems and control arm replacement to solve it. in some cases they reimburse for tire replacements. what concerns me though is that if there is a rear suspension problem and the control arms solve it, how long will that fix the problem. are they using the original equipment, or a beefed up control arm. if some improvement in the arms hasn't been done, then a new set of tires will only start wearing with the first miles driven and honda owners will have the same problem in 15 - 20, 000 miles. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 honda civic. while driving at approximately 55 mph, the contact heard a rumbling sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. the dealer advised that the rear support arms as well and both rear tires would need to be replaced. the repair was performed at the contact's expense. the failure recurred within two years. the dealer performed an alignment and both rear tires were replaced. the failure recurred within six weeks. there had been no further repairs. the failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 100,000. updated 1/19/2010 *cn updated 04/20/11
On wednesday, june 11, 2008 i was driving from mar vista, ca to san leandro, ca with my 4 year old son and 20 year old sister in law. we were on the 580 w driving in the far left lane at 65mph at 11:30 am when we heard an explosion in the rear of the car. when we inspected the car, the right rear tire was blown through. the side walls were intact, but the whole top part of the tire was not connected to the side wall. my car is a 2007 honda civic coupe ex and it had about 8300 miles. i purchased the car in july 2007. the crash caused significant damage to the front left side of my car. the car is now at a body shop and is being repaired in san leandro, ca. we have the defective tire. after doing more research i found that honda had issued a service bulletin about uneven or rapid tire wear. tsb 08-001 on february 8, 2008. i did not receive notification of this serious defect because honda is not required to notify consumers regarding tsbs. this defect is serious and affects nearly all 2006-2007 honda civics. this tsb needs to become a recall. all owners of 2006-2007 honda civics need to be made aware of this life threatening defect. i understand that tires should be checked regularly, and many consumers do, however, my tires did not give me any warning of uneven wearing. actually, it would be hard to notice since my 2007 civic coupe ex is not quite on the road and you can feel any little bump in the road. i was told that this was normal because of the stiff suspension. overall, i seriously hope that this is addressed quickly. many unsuspecting drivers, many of whom have driven honda's in the past are not expecting this type of problem which can cause tire blowouts and possible fatal accidents. it would be unfortunate that a class action suit or the death of innocent consumers prompt honda to make this tsb 08-001 notice a recall notice. *tr
This complaint is related to one filed previously. there are 4 states that required manufactures to notify all owners and leasees of technical service bulletins or motor vehicle warranty adjustment programs. theses states include: california, connecticut, virginia, and wisconsin. see: http://www.autosafety.org/article.php?did=721. i am a california resident and i never received notice of tsb: 08-001 nor any of the other 8 tsbs. you can find the california civil code 1795.90, 1795.91, 1795.92, 1795.93 at: http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/appndxa/tocs/cctc.htm 1795.92. manufacturers shall have the following duties: (a) manufacturer shall, within 90 days of the adoption of an adjustment program, subject to priority for safety or emission-related recalls, notify by first-class mail all owners or leasees of motor vehicles eligible under the program of the condition giving rise to and the principal terms and conditions of the program. (d) "adjustment program" means any program or policy that expands or extends the consumer's warranty beyond its stated limit or under which a manufacturer offers to pay for all or any part of the cost of repairing, or to reimburse consumers for all or any part of the cost of repairing, any condition that may substantially affect vehicle durability, reliability, or performance, other than service provided under a safety or emission-related recall campaign. "adjustment program" does not include ad hoc adjustments made by a manufacturer on a case-by-case basis. *tr
Uneven tire wear caused by rear suspension problems. i am now on my 4th set of tires for my 2007 honda civic lx sedan with 58,000 miles. each time i have replaced the tires, i thought the wear was tire related. 6-11-08, i learned from the honda dealer, the problems was because of a defective rear suspension. honda (the mfg.) has declined to assist with the payment for any of the tires. someone is going to have a bad accident because of this problem and possibly severe injuries. *tr
Consumer had issues with the service on 2007 honda civic at the dealership. *nj the consumer heard a rotating chiming noise coming from the vehicle. the dealer informed the consumer the noise was coming from the rear tires that had flat spots due to improper tire pressure or panic stops. the consumer went to another dealer and was told a tsb had been issued for the rear control arms. the consumer was informed the noise would continue until the tires were replaced. *jb
Excessive tire wear on my 2007 honda hybrid - problems with the rear suspension causing the rear tires to wear out excessively fast on the inner portion of the tire leading to unusual tire wear patterns. *tr
Small vibration heard in the rear of the car. took car in for routine maintenance, told them of sound coming from the rear of car. they informed us that there was a service bulletin on the car, advising them to replace the upper control arms and tires. parts were on back order. reported on 5/22, today is 6/9, part still not replaced. honda refusing to replace tires, even though defective part caused rear tire to ware unevenly and rapidly. fear this is a safety issue and am concerned about driving on the highway. *tr
2007 honda civic with 20,000 miles was making a loud noise on the highway. sound was coming from rear of car. took car to dealer and recommendation was made to replace rear control arms. repairs could not be done on a timely manner because dealership will not be able to get parts for several days. problem has likely resulted in uneven tire ware, which may cause handling difficulties and possibly a crash, but dealer wanted us to drive the car home under these conditions. after insisting, we were given a loaner car. *tr
