We have classified the 351 complaints from 2008 Honda Accord about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Seat and canopy air bags on passenger side both deployed while parked overnight in the garage. honda says insurance must pay and insurance company says it's honda's responsibility. *tr
During a monsoon the passenger door was open and slammed shut by the wind. the passenger side airbag deployed while the vehicle was parked and turned off. the deployed airbag damaged the headliner and seat and misc other parts. *tr
We were about to begin our vacation trip driving our 2008 honda accord 4 door, when my wife got into the drivers seat and my 29 year old son got into the passenger seat. when my son closed the passenger door, the side curtain airbag deployed from the headliner and front passenger seat causing an abrasion to the right forearm of my son. the vehicle was running and in the parked position. i have owned this vehicle for 5 years and 1 month and it has 57,300 miles on it and has never been in any type of accident. honda was contacted and recommended that i have a honda dealer evaluate the incident which i did. the honda dealer told me that their computer indicated that the side curtain air bag deployed, which i already knew. american honda was contacted and told me that i should contact my insurance company who sent me to their adjuster who examined the car and stated that the airbag deployment was not the result of a collision or comprehensive claim and told me that they would deny my claim for repair. honda was notified and told me they would not repair the vehicle since it was out of warranty. the estimate for repair is $2500. this is clearly a safety issue. honda has recalled 800,000 vehicles, many older than mine, for similar airbag problems but not the 2008 accord. *tr
My vehicle was parked at home and i was getting groceries out of my car and pushed the door shut with my behind. next thing i hear is a huge boom and i look back and my airbags on the passenger side of my car were completely deployed. my curtain airbags and my seat airbag both deployed. i went to the sam swope dealership at 1 swope autocenter dr, louisville, ky 40299 where i purchased my car and explained the issue to them. they told me that this happens all the time in 2008 accords and that they would take a look at it and get back to me. they proceeded to tell me they saw no default codes so it was not their responsibility to fix it and quoted me $5000 that i would have to pay out of pocket to fix it. i was angry and told them i would not stand for it and i wanted to speak with corporate. i had to then take my vehicle back to the dealership for corporate to look it over. a week or so later i received a phone call from the corporate office informing me there was absolutely nothing they could do and it was my responsibility to fix it. i was livid!!! i pay my car payment on time every month, pay for an extended warranty and gap insurance but obviously honda does not hold true to treating their customers the way they should be treated. i am 24 years old and single and do not $5000 just laying around to fix the issue, so i have been driving around ever since with no airbags on the passenger side. i truly hope the more people that come forward with this issue will get 2008 honda accords recalled. paying $400 a month for 3 more years of the 6 year loan i have is very frustrating when honda does not stand behind their products whatsoever. *tr
Passenger got out of the car, closed the front ps door and boom out came the side curtain airbags. i went to the dealership and they said there had to have been a collision, it's out of warranty anyway and to make a claim with my insurance. i went to my insurance and they said they couldn't make a claim without a collision. something has to happen here. this isn't right. get on it honda. *tr

I purchased my 2008 honda accord brand new and i have had no accidents. approximately 1 weeks ago my srs light remained on after starting my engine and has remained on since. i took my vehicle in for an inspection today at my local honda dealership and they told me that it detected a code in which there was an internal failure of the srs unit. this would require me to replace the unit at a cost of $402.78 as this was not covered under warranty. how can a vehicle that is 5 years old and no prior accidents already have a system failure regarding the airbags? i feel this is a safety issue, i have had no accident, the srs unit should carry a lifetime warranty. *tr

Subject: sudden unintended acceleration at about 9:25 pm, on wednesday january 23, 2013 i was parked in the north parking lot of the vienna metro station, in fairfax, virginia, awaiting arrival of my wife. i had parked in the first parking space, across from the waiting area in front of the metro station entrance. when i saw my wife emerge from the entrance of the metro station, i started my car and shifted to drive. the engine suddenly revved up and the car lunged forward, accelerating at high speed and out of control. i remember reacting by applying the brakes with all my might and engaging the hand brake without much effect.the car lunged forward about 100 feet and hit a concrete barrier which smashed the front and engine and totaled the vehicle. luckily there were no other cars or pedestrians in the vicinity otherwise there would have been more severe consequences. when i regained consciousness, i had been transported to the fairfax hospital and had suffered severe trauma to the neck, throat, larynx and mouth area and was bleeding from a cut on the chin. two days of intense examination at the hospital and several follow-up medical exams found no evidence of any physical or medical condition that could have possibly contributed to the accident. it must be noted that i did not receive any citation for the accident from the fairfax police. *tr
I rear ended a truck at 45mph, car did not deploy air bags. *yt
Takata recall--m y husbands honda accord 2008 was involved in an accident on january 16, 2013. the accident happened in somerset county nj. he was hit head on by a drunk driver while driving on a local road on his way home from work. he was killed instantly, my daughter suffered numerous injuries. this accident happened just prior to the first announcement if takata airbags. since then there have been numerous recalls - it was not until just recently my husbands vehicle was actually recalled. when i was given my husbands belongings g there were numerous pieces of large plastic pieces lodged inside his briefcase which was in the vehicle with him. he died instantly of blunt force trauma to the chest- his heart exploded due to the force of the airbag. we never received any recall notices on his vehicle- i only found out because i have been checking consistently on the recalls.
My vehicle was in park, i was in the driver seat and i had a passenger. the passenger exited the vehicle and shut the passenger door and passenger side airbags deployed unexpectedly. there was no collision and no damage other than the damage that the airbags caused. i got my car home and called my insurance. the insurance had the car towed to an auto body shop for inspection. upon inspection, they found no reason for the airbags to deploy other than the possibility of a faulty control module. the auto body shop confirmed that there was not damage to the vehicle that would cause this incident. i contacted honda america. i had the car towed to a honda dealership where honda and my insurance company sent a representative out to do an inspection. my insurance confirmed that there was not damage that would have caused the airbags to deploy but honda is saying that my vehicle has frame damage that would have caused this incident but honda will not provide me with a report of their findings. after research, there have been numerous 2008 honda accords with this same airbag problem that honda will not recognize or agree to fix. i am stuck with a car that has significant damage and decreased value because of a faulty honda part. please help. *tr
In decemeber 20012 i was in bad accident the was not a fault of mine. my car was struck twice on diver side. i was driving home i received a fracture wrist and two fingers. my arm was burned from from the air bag. i still have scar and i still have to wear my wrist brace from time to time. at the time i was clear that they had a recall on air bags until i placed my info in to the site. i do have pictures i just have to find them or contact my attorney who handle my accident case.
I struck a vehicle that had stopped suddenly in front of me. i was able to decelerate to about 30 mph before the collision. driver's front air bag deployed with such force, or with such incorrect timing, that i sustained a complete and partially displaced fracture of the sternum. in searching the medical literature, this is an injury usually associated with not wearing a seat belt, which i was, or with striking the steering wheel, which i did not. there had been no prior illumination of air bag warning lights, other than the test illuminations when the car is started. *tr
I purchased my 2008 honda accord brand new and i have had no accidents. approximately 2 weeks ago my srs light remained on after starting my engine and has remained on since. i took my vehicle in for an inspection today at my local honda dealership and they told me that it detected a code in which there was an internal failure of the srs unit. this would require me to replace the unit at a cost of $455.15 as this was not covered under warranty. how can a vehicle that is 4 years old with less than 60,000 miles and no prior accidents already have a system failure regarding the airbags? *tr
Passenger side curtain and seat air bags deployed upon exiting the car. no impact has been made on this side of the car. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated while driving 65 mph the side curtain air bag deployed without impact or any warnings. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 26,000.
Side airbags deployed when door was closed. car was parked, and turned off. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact and the front passenger exited the vehicle and as the front door was closed, the front passenger and side curtain air bags deployed erroneously. the vehicle had not been involved in a crash nor impacted by any type of object. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised the contact that the vehicle could be repaired. there were no recalls for the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the issue. the failure mileage was 65,000.
The warning light on the dashboard panel is warning that the passenger airbag as deployed. at the same time the "fasten seatbelt" warning stopped working and the seal around the passenger window is loose. coincidentally, a relative also has a 2008 honda accord and the exact same things are happening. according to many internet entries, the same thing is happening to many 2008 honda accords. i cannot find information on a recall. it is a safety hazard, because some owners have reported the airbag deploying while driving. *tr
Srs indicator light came on the dashboard while driving. took the vehicle to a local honda dealer and was told that they were not able to perform any diagnostic as the srs unit has failed and was not communicating with the system. i had to pay $482 to replace the srs unit. although the vehicle is out of warranty, it has less than 36,000 miles on it and the srs unit replacement should have been covered by honda. *js....updated 05-27-15 *bf
In march 2012 i took the car to a honda dealer because the srs light was on. i was told i needed a battery and that should make the light go off. i got a battery about six months later and the light stayed on. i took my car back to the dealer in july 2013 and they said the srs module is out and would need to be replaced because if i were in an accident the airbags would not deploy. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that the passenger air bags deployed while she was closing the front passenger door. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. the dealer stated that the air bag senor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and they stated that they were not responsible. the failure and current mileages were 80,000.
srs indicator light on dashboard came on and subsequently the passenger airbag off indicator also came on. vehicle taken to honda dealer for service where srs control unit was determined to be inoperative. replacement was authorized at a total cost of 616.49. similar premature srs control unit failures for 2008 accords were noted on the nhtsa website. *tr..updated 05-27-15 *bf updated 9/17/2015*js
With the car turned off the driver's side curtain airbag and seat airbag deployed after i shut the door. i can site at least 30 posts on nhtsa's website where this has happened and there is certain to be thousands more. this is a very expensive fix that neither american honda co. nor most insurance companies will not fix. those with the airbag problem are now driving around with deployed airbags due to a manufacturer defect that honda refuses to fix. i am hoping to join a class action lawsuit against honda because they have ignored this personal security concern. i would like to see nhtsa take a stance on this. *tr
My fiance and i were on our way to the hospital to take our daughter to the er. i pulled in a parking spot and put the car in park. the key was still in the ignition and when my boyfriend got out of the car and shut the door the passenger side air bags deployed. there was no accident just him shutting the door. how is this possible??? i did some research and noticed that not all ins companies will pay for this and honda is not paying for it either. i find this hard to believe as this is a safety issue. i went to the honda dealer today and was told i need to come back in the morning and speak to the service manager. what can i do about this as this is not my fault but a defect with the car. *tr
Certified 2008 honda accord purchased from in georgia. driving on i-85 at 55-60mph heard a loud explosion and then hit in the side of the head (at high speed) by the side airbag. side airbags deployed for absolutely no reason. could have been in a serious accident or killed. honda does not want to fix defective part on car and wants over $5k. this is a very serious problem and i see that many other 2008 honda accords have had the same problem. these airbags should not go off unless there is an impact! contacted wsbtv.com and they did a story last night on the news. wrote to all the bigwigs at american honda as well this morning. was contacted by a case manager at american honda this morning and they are towing my car down to a dealership south of where i live to be "looked at" with no guarantee of being fixed. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) *tt
My 2008 certified used honda accord (sdn/4 dr, ex-l) was hit hard from the front left side and none of my airbags deployed. i was at a stand still (at a stop sign), the fast oncoming vehicle crashed into me causing me to skid 10 feet, knocking my front bumper off, shattering my windows, and i have been told my front axle is broke. the oklahoma highway patrol recommended i file a complaint since none of my airbags deployed. *tr
I had just returned from the store in my 2008 honda accord ex/l. i pulled into my driveway placed my car into park and exited the vehicle as i normally would. but to my surprise when i closed my door i heard a loud pop! i turned around and saw my car filled with dust i opened my door and realized my airbags have deployed. both driver side curtain airbags and the driver's seat side impact airbags were deployed. i didn't "slam" the door or close it any harder then i normally do. i took it to the dealer where i had purchased the car from and he told me i had to of slammed my door for all of them to blow off like they did "they don't just blow off on their own" " you slammed your door" i know how i close my door. i take care of all of my belongings. is what i replied with. the service writer told me i was looking at $6,000 to get them replaced. i don't have 6 grand sitting around so after many headaches and the dealer trying to scam my insurance company and getting mad that i tried to contact honda directly to resolve my issue they finally fixed my car....(it took them 2 months) and cost me a lot of money. i was given no help from honda even after i had found out that i was not the only person out there with this same exact problem. with that being said you'd think honda would do something about this. apparently taking care of customers and doing what's right has fallen low on the pole for honda. i can promise i will never purchase a car from honda ever again. *tr
I entered my 2008 honda accord in my driveway and after closing my drivers door, my side airbags and drivers seat airbags deployed. the key was not in the ignition nor was the engine running. honda is giving me the royal run around and will not take responsibility to fix this. they want me to go through my insurance company to get this repaired, when in fact there was no accident. they are blaming it on a sensor that is under the car, which they say may have been damaged. this car is still in showroom condition with 22,000 miles. they just had an airbag recall on 2002-2004 models, their customer service dept in california were very rude and advised if there is a recall in four or five years then i can be reimbursed. there have been numerous complaints of this happening to many 2008 honda accord owners looking through the internet. it is time that someone makes them accountable, as loyal honda customers we should be taken care of if their reputation is quality and excellence. we should be treated properly and have this repaired. it is time honda recalls their 2008 honda accord and fixes this issue now, before it deploys and someone gets killed. why must it take someone losing their life before anything is done. *tr
Air bag light suddenly appeared on in august i had to pay for diagnostic to find the problem results were srs module is bad. they want me to replace this safety issue, $405 to replace. shouldn't this be covered by american honda. *kb
My nephew (25 years old) and i were out and came home and when he got out of the car and shut the door (a little harder than normal) the passenger side airbags deployed. it has just happened only one time. i took my car to the honda dealership i bought it from and they said it was out of warranty and it would cost me $5,989.00 to repair the airbags. i then called american honda. received a call back the next day but missed the call from the rep for american honda. i called and left the rep a message and he did not call me back until a week later. by then i had called my insurance company (i could not wait any longer, i had to get my car fixed). when the rep from american honda called back he said there was nothing he could do because he needed to inspect the car. my car was repaired by a body shop my insurance company recommended. i had to pay a $500.00 deductible and the cost of the repair was $3,200.00 ( a lot less than honda's price. *tr

2008 honda accord. consumer writes regarding airbag not deploying during accident *tgw the consumer was hit on the left side by a small truck. the driver of the truck was traveling twice the speed limit. *jb the consumer stated the brakes on his vehicle were defective. an engineer suggested that the front and rear brakes be replaced. but, when the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, the rotors were cut down, which had already been done twice in the past. and the front was cut down once. the consumer stated the rotors are extremely thin now. *jb the consumer stated at 5,000 miles, the brakes began to grind and rumble with a loss of braking ability. updated 01/14/11. *jb
I own a 2008 honda accord and recently i closed the drivers side door and the side impact air bags went off. the car was not moving and i was not struck by another car or item that might have caused it to go off. i took my car to goodson honda west service department (houston tx) and they said that it was not a warranty issues and that i had damage on the right side of my undercarriage. i asked them why damage under the car on the right side would have caused the air bag on the left side of the car to go off, they didn't have an explanation. they told me to file with my insurance. they had to replace the driver side seat and the entire head liner plus all of the air bags totaling 3,600.00 i called my insurance and they said that they would cover it but that i had a $1,250.00 deductible (two teenage drivers). i was told that i should take my car to the goodson body shop because they would be doing the work. when i took my car there they looked it over again and i asked the question why would the side air bag go off when i close the door. they couldn't explain it either and they questioned whether the damage to the right undercarriage caused the air bags to go off. they asked the service folks and a honda rep to come out and meet and again honda denied the claim as warranty. i spoke with my insurance company and someone sent me a interesting article that i thought that i would share with you: http://www.thebostonchannel.com/r/20040559/detail.html a boston channel did a report and found that this is happening in the 2008 model accords and honda continues to deny that there might be a problem. i wonder if anyone in houston has had the same experience that i'm having and if honda is trying to cover something up like toyota. *tr
I bought a used 08 honda accord about a week ago. i stopped at target shopping center to get a few things. i parked the car was still running, in park, when my passenger exited shut the passenger door and boom the side curtain and passenger seat airbags deployed.. unbelievable. *tr
2008 honda accord, drive less than 3 yrs, airbag light is on while driving. called honda north america office & honda dealer in houston, they refuse to give a free diagnosis, because the mileage is over 36,000 mile. i told them this is a safety issue, should carry a lifetime warranty. *tr
General concerns. however i am concerned about the airbag, engine and brakes problem especially. honda has not made us aware of any problems with this vehicle. thankfully we have only had premature replacement of brakes. we are aware of consumer complaints only because we are concerned about our product which we assume to be safe and reliable . you can rely on our qualitymaintenance program, we have been alerted by mail of a pending suit we cannot benefit from class action because we have no incident to report. honda corporate and dealers owe us consumers true and fair information and timely communications . gmc had to kill people before they were found to be irresponsible. consider this a complaint about brakes, failure to take responsibility, failure to notify, regarding other possible problems especially airbags. *tr
Passenger side curtain airbags & passenger side seat airbag randomly deployed. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2008 honda accord exl. the contact was driving approximately 5 mph, approaching a stop sign. suddenly, an opposing vehicle crashed into the drivers side and the force caused the contacts left shoulder to strike up against the door which resulted in an injury. the contact and the passenger sustained abrasions and suffered pinched nerves. the air bags failed to deploy. a police report was filed. the vehicle was severely damaged and towed to an auto body collision center. the estimated repair cost was $9,000. in addition, the front and rear rotors had prematurely worn which was unrelated to the crash. the failure mileage was 5,200. updated 02/08/11*lj updated 04/21/11

I have a 2008 honda accord ex. my car was running and parked. i closed the right front door and the passenger side curtain airbags and seat airbag deployed. deafening my passenger for approx. 1 day. i brought my vehicle to honda and they said the vehicle did it's job and they are not covering it. there is no accident damage what so ever. i called honda corporate and was told to have a nice day. it is a lease car, a very expensive repair, and obviously a defect. there are numerous complaints on the internet of the very same problem with the very same car and they refuse to do anything about it. it is unsafe to drive but unfortunately i have to. *tr
The passenger side aie bag deployed on my 2008 honda accord sedan. monday night, i shut my passenger door, got into my car and 5-6 minutes later boom!!!. scared the living heck out me. i took it to the dealer. the dealer is telling me its my fault and they are not paying for it. they initially told me that they saw no damages with my car meaning no collisions, no scrapes, no hit, bumps absolutely nothing that would make the air bag deploy. insurance was called and they told them the same; however, there is no claim because there was no accident. now honda has changed there story saying that there are damages to my car. they've had my car for several days and allof a sudden there are damages. i've called america honda customer care and now i'm waiting for an adjuster from my insurance claim to go out to look at my car. in the meantime, i'm without a vehicle. honda seems as though they are fighting to avoid a safety recall. *tr
