We have classified the 351 complaints from 2008 Honda Accord about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. when the contact slammed the passenger side door shut, the air bag deployed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v665000 (air bags); however, the remedy was not yet available. the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 85,000. vin tool confirms parts not available.
I pulled over to let my son out of my 2008 honda accord vehicle, he was sitting in the front passenger side. when he closed the door the passenger seat and passenger curtain airbags deployed. once i realized what they were, i got out to check on my son because i thought we had been hit. there was no vehicle or exterior damage to my vehicle. the next business day i took my vehicle to a honda dealer. it was inspected and photos were taken. after a week of no direct ansewers from this dealer, i decided to contact american honda. another inspection was scheduled and they determained that there was "rim damage" (caused from parking too close to the curb) and that could have "possibly" caused the airbags to deploy. i was not parked next to the curb when the airbags deployed and i have to disagree with there finding. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. while driving approximately 50 mph, the passenger side air bag warning indicator illuminated. the failure recurred continuously. the vehicle was taken to a dealer. the technician diagnosed that the air bag system needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

Car was hit in the rear and the passenger ( right front) airbag deployed. car was stationary when it was hit and the air bag deployed.
Air bag light came on intermittently, then stayed on. when to honda dealer in yorba linda, ca. dealer tested srs system, no errors on diagnostic code. only thing dealer said was to return and leave car for several days, that they had no idea what is causing this. dealer also said would be at my expense if they found anything wrong and for time to investigate. i have not returned. *tr
Tl* takata recall. the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v046000 (air bags) and 16v346000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. the contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the contact had not experienced a failure. vin tool confirms parts not available.
I cannot find out is these air bags are defective. the dealer will not offer any information and says they have heard nothing from honda. am i driving a time bomb? as of this writing nothing has happened, this car has never been in a crash yet only has 24,000 miles on the car. *tr
This had to be replaced. it cost $607.02.
My mother's car is garage kept and only has 31,000 miles. i haven't driven her car in years and when i did the other day i noticed that the airbag light was on and did not come off. she is elderly and she thought that it was her seat belt light. i took it into honda dealer right away because of all of the recalls going on. they said that it would cost $517 to fix the restraint control unit for the airbag. explained as little computer to tell the airbags when to deploy if in an accident. if not fixed airbags will not deploy if in an accident. shouldn't this be covered under warranty or considered in the recalls! now i am seeing complaints about this all over the net. so now what? and will this be included with all of the massive airbag recall problems? at first we were told that the recall did not include this year and model....i beg to differ. *tr
I got out of the passenger seat of my 2008 honda accord and closed the door shut. upon the door closing the door the side impact airbags on the passenger side of the vehicle inflated. the curtain airbags and the seat airbag was deployed causing ear pain to my fianc who was getting things from the backseat. i have reached out to honda and was told that it was not their fault and basically given the runaround. i have researched this particular incident with this particular honda model and notice there is an open investigation by the nhtsa. i hope this can help move the process of a recall along. *tr
air bag warning light was coming on intermittently starting on approximately 10/6/2014, became permanent 11/02/2014. during that time span side airbag off warning light came on several times for several minutes then turned off and has stayed off excepted when car is turned on and car runs thru diagnostic routine. had car serviced on 11/13/2014----honda tech indicated code of 1018, per tech-indicates open or short in system, he was not sure where failure is--and not sure what fee would be to locate and repair failure. said it could run into the $100's just to locate failure. considering my side airbag light off light came on and the investigation into sideair bag deployment and recall of tanaka airbags i will wait to see decision and see if srs light comes on for a more precise diagnostic at my next visit to honda dealer. *tr
I was grabbing my books out of my passenger seat and when i closed the door my side top airbags and passenger seat side airbag completely deployed! i went online and found many different cases of people closing there doors of 2008 honda accords and airbags going off. i just bought this car it is in brand new condition and now i have to drive around with deployed airbags it 1) looks ridiculous and 2) is completely unsafe because godforbid i actually get into an accident with them deployed! i think it is absurd if i have to pay 5,000 for new airbags for simply shutting my door a little too hard!!! *tr
I bought my 2008 honda accord new. recently at 80k miles, the srs light will stay on all the time when the car is running. i brought the car to the local honda dealer and they told me the srs module need to be replace and the cost for it is close to $500. i just feel ridiculous because the car had never been in any accident before and how come the airbag system just fail just like that. american honda should cover this under the warranty. and i do believe they have a defective srs unit. please go over with the airbag problems and you will see the same exact problem happened to may people. someone needs to take an action and let american honda to take action before someone get hurts. not everyone can afford to fix this out of their pockets and many of them just let the light on/ srs airbag system off without fixing it. *tr
I have a 2008 honda accord. while the car was parked, but running, the front passenger door was shut slightly harder than normal, and the side curtain and seat airbags deployed on the passenger side only. there was not a side collision or evidence that the car was hit. i took it to gillman honda in houston tx and paid $125 for a diagnostic test. they said the sensor for the side airbag went off (code f4-11) and it wasn't covered under the extended warranty. i made a claim with honda usa. an inspector came and claimed he noticed previous damage (scrapes) to the undercarriage of the car and even though the airbags didn't deploy then, that may have caused it. i told them my concern is that the airbags deployed so sensitively and i have a 3 year old child. i don't want him to get injured. how can i ensure it won't happen again. they responded the reason the airbags deployed was inconclusive and it would not be covered. *tr
Passenger airbag warning light comes on intermently while drive car . had honda check the issue out they said would cost approx. $1000 to repair. read article in local news paper aug 22,2015 that nhtsa is investigating defect that could prevent airbags from deploying. we spent several hundred dollars to have this issue fixed at a local garage. were dos this issue currently stand?.
2208 honda accord, never been in the accident, srs stay on and the off (passenger air bag on). took the honda dealer and they told me the srs unit defected. and will cost me $500 . i bought the car brand new never been any accident. i think honda should cover this safety device under warranty. *tr
Started getting a red light with seat belts sign. checked in the manual - should take it to the dealer and get it repaired. according to the dealer the srs air bag control unit needs to be changed.if there was an accident - the bags will not operate - whole purpose of the air bag safety will be in vain. the repair cost is around $460. i saw lots of complaints about this issue on the internet for 2008 honda accord. hope the dept. of transportation will look into it and do something about it. *tr
Airbag passenger light kept staying on longer and longer, eventually turns off. at 114,xx light stayed on then soon after airbag light indicator on dash was illuminated. there are no accidents on the vehicle. no repairs or modifications to affect system. i took the vehicle to dealer since it was out of warranty by 3 months. i did tell them about the intermittent issues but assumed all was well. they did a diagnostic that took well over 4 hours to isolate the possible issue. dealer's response; after pin testing fuse box found bad pss fuse/ relay box. was told to sign a waiver to drive my own vehicle out the lot. the entire airbag system is down and will not work until repaired. i was in shock to know that if i had an accident my family and i could be in grave danger, they said they have no idea how long it could of not been working. i called honda america to complain case# n012014-10-0900059. they said the car is too old and out of warranty for them to cover the repair. i have since parked the car and have'nt driven it since. this is our 7th honda and never would expect this type of service or reliability on this vehicle. *js
I was parked, someone got out of my passenger side front door. after shutting the door, all of my passenger side airbags deployed, including the passenger seat airbag. *tr
My husband and i along with my two daughters got in our 2008 honda accord on monday afternoon, my husband was the last one in. he got in the front passengers side seat and when he shut the door the side airbags deployed! my oldest daughter was in the seat behind him and when the airbags deployed it hit her in the face causing burn marks on her face and neck and also she has some loss of hearing in her right ear and a constant ringing in her ear! we contacted our insurance company they said they could not help us! we then contacted our local honda dealer where we purchased the car and they said sorry no recall on your car and its not under warranty but when i explained my daughter was injured their attitude changed and were told to call american honda and tell them what happened! at this point we were told to drive the car to our local honda dealership for them to run tests on the car to see why the airbags deployed! now it is just a waiting game i guess!....updated 07/31/14 *bf updated 03/17/2015 *js
my family and i had watched fire works on the 4th of july when they were over we all got in the car i was the last to enter when i closed my car door all the air bags on the whole left side of the car deployed in the parking lot in witch he had parked to watch the fire works. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that the air bag and seat belt warning indicators illuminated. the failure occurred several times. the dealer stated that the srs unit air bag was defective and would not deploy in a crash. the seat belt could be repaired according to the manufacturer's safety warranty. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.
My vehicle was hit head on by a pickup truck. the whole front end of my vehicle was damaged. the front passenger airbag failed to deploy. the driver side air bag did deploy, however i have a first degree air bag burn on my right inner wrist/ forearm. my vehicle was determined to be a total loss. i received a vehicle report on my car after the accident and found that the nhtsa has issued 1 safety related recall notice on my vehicle in the past involving power train: automatic transmission : control module. this recall began on 7/31/2011. i purchased this vehicle on 2/1/2012. i should have never been sold this vehicle until it was inspected and repaired. *js
Air bag sensor illuminated while driving rendering the air bags inoperative. the vehicle was taken to the honda dealer on the next business day. parts and labor was $697. there should be a recall on this safety issue. *tr
I purchased this car last year and it had over 150000, as i checked the oil i noticed it was low i have added 1 qt in between every oil change. my second problem was during the winter on the real cold days the starter sounded like it was hanging up as described as the vtc actuator. my third problem is the warning light on the dash for the air bag has illuminated. i contacted honda today and they told me the light only comes on after it has been to the body shop? also i have received a claim form for a reimbursable deployment prior to feb 13 2014. i have not been in a accident and neither has the car. so if there is a claim for the air bag deployment why isn't there a recall for the air bag? *tr
While driving, the side curtain airbag deployed with out there being any collision. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealership for a diagnostic test. the dealer stated that the srs module needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 64,000 and the current mileage was 65,000. updated 8/19/14*cn updated 08/27/2014 *js
My 2008 honda accord has never been in an accident. while operating the vehicle on city streets, the air bag light spontaneously came on in the instrument panel. car was taken in for diagnostic evaluation and i was told that there is a srs system failure- meaning the air bag system does not work. to replace would cost $487 or i could operate the vehicle knowing that the air bags would not deploy if i were in an accident. i called honda to explain that this is a safety feature that has failed at 86,000 miles and should be covered. i was told that the vehicle is not covered after 36,000 miles. i was also told that my vehicle is not included in their most recent recall of air bag problems. *tr
While entering my vehicle all of the passenger side air bags deployed when the front passenger closed the front door. as a result my daughter received facial and ear injuries. my daughter was sitting in the back passenger seat. my car was started and in park. after this happened i researched on the internet and found dozens of other frightening incidents similar to mine reported involving 2008 honda accords. the next morning as soon as the dealership where i purchased the car opened i called the manager and was informed to immediately bring it in which i did. my daughter is experiencing headaches and ear ringing sensations. i have scheduled a doctor's appointment for her to be seen tomorrow morning. *tr
Summary: there was a premature failure of the srs module in my 2008 honda accord which, according to a local honda representative, renders the airbags useless in a crash or can cause premature deployment. the airbag light was on as well as the engine light which the dealership mentioned they were both related. charging a diagnostics fee when i had already performed the diagnostics through work and associated partnerships (fleet management provider and maintenance vendors). i had to pay out of pocket close to $640 for parts and labor. seems silly as this was a safety related service. my engine light was on about 4 months ago and they said the light was on due to my catalytic converter, so they replaced and now the engine light is back on and this is due to airbag issue. *tt ..updated 05-27-15 *bf
I stopped my car to let my boyfriend out of the car. when he closed the passenger side door the side curtain airbags were deployed as well as the one out of the passenger seat. there was no impact to my car whatsoever, no dings, dents or damage. he just closed the door. *js

I was traveling on highway 99 south when a vehicle hit the back of my car cuasing me to spin into another lane and getting hit on my driver side. my air bag on the driverside door deployed only, but no air bag for my adult passenger deployed.
My fiance got out of the car and shut the door on the right passenger side. when he shut the door, the air bags immediately deployed on that side of the car. no crash took place for this to happen.
I had a car wreck on 2/4/2014 between 10 and 1030 am. it was cloudy and drizzly and i crossed a 2 lane street when a truck hit me and took all the front fender off. the truck shaved all the front of my car. most of the damage was on the drivers side. i hit my head on window and my chest on steering wheel. no airbags went off, not the side one or the steering wheel one. my car was a total loss and my neck is been giving me some trouble some days more than others but mostly at night time. i went to see my doctor and she put me on muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatory meds. i don't understand why the airbags didn't go off to protect me. *tr
My honda accord 2008 ex model's passenger side curtain air bag took off without any impact which it was getting parked by a vale driver. there was no damage any where to trigger the same. this occurred when the vale driver parked my car and shut the door of the car. air bag took off and injured the person. geico did the repair and could not find any reason what could trigger the air bag. i took my car to honda dealership (huntington honda) and they also could not find the reason. garage denied the claim and no one is able to give confidence that this will not happen again.i have several pictures and detailed report and like to share if there is any way to do that. *tr
On or around the 21st of november, as my family and i were getting out of the vehicle, the passenger door is closed and the air bags suddenly deploy. no impact on the car, no accident - in fact the car was parked. i called american honda corporate offices and was advised to take the vehicle to my local dealership. i went ahead and took it to hudson honda in west new york, nj. my local dealership discovered that i had hit a pot hole 2 weeks prior to the incident. i was told because i had hit the pot hole 2 weeks prior that was the reason why my air bags deployed. i called my car insurance company and was advised that this was impossible. i would have had to have an impact in order for the passenger side curtain and torso air bags to deploy. i called american honda again today and was told again that the reason why my air bags deployed was because they discovered i hit a pot hole 2 weeks prior to the incident. i have read other complaints from other consumers and would like my complaint to be fully investigated. honda is saying i will need to come out of pocket at almost $4000 to fix the air bag. why will i need to come out of pocket when i did not have an accident? i believe that this is a honda issue and not a consumer issue. in the interim i am speaking with my car insurance company to do their own investigation of the incident. *js
My air bag light stays on. my passenger airbag light that says "off" is always illuminated. recently, my "side air bag light" stays on for about a minute after my car is on. it did not do this before. *tt
Drove into a gas station so my fiancee could buy a beverage our 9 y/o in back seat with belt on. fiancee closed door loud boom n my son starts screaming crying i realize once powdery smoke clears that air bags entire side curtain n passenger front seat have gone off thus hitting my 9 year olds in the head he ended up with a concussion and blood behind his ear on the inside i went to honda. i also called my insurance and honda berated me in front of their other customers call myself and my fiance a couple of [xxx] my son was in the emergency room and ended up having a cat scan of his brain he ended up missing school for two days now honda is denying it is their faulty am just quite confused as to how airbag spontaneously deploy when a vehicle is not moving and not in a collision and not driving even and the honda can say it is not there defect now i have an injured child and the car with about $7,000 damage please help me thank you. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr updated 02/25/14*lj
While walking towards my own vehicle with my 2 year old daughter, my fiance got in the driver side door of our 2008 honda accord and closed the door. right after he shut the door a loud explosion was heard. the side air bag (on the top and within the seat) had deployed. the car wasn't even started at the time. like everyone else honda does not find it to be their problem. my insurance is helping me investigate the cause of the deployment since there was no accident. i would really like to know how many times this must have happened before someone other than the consumer is held liable. i do not feel safe putting my daughter in the car if this is possible. *js
The entire passenger side curtain and passenger side seat airbag deployed when my boyfriend exited the passenger side and shut the door. there was no collision nor outside damage. the airbags just deployed as soon as the door shut. it is obviously a mechanical problem and a safety issue. honda refuses to cover for the repair. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2008 honda accord. the contact stated that the passenger's side air bag and the side curtain air bag deployed prior to the failure, the passenger's side air bag warning lamp had illuminated sporadically. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to determine what caused the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was unavailable. the failure and current mileage was 65,000.
I came to a stop and my 15 yr son got out of the car and shut the passenger's side door and the passenger side airbags deployed. he was in a hurry so shut the door hard but i would have never expected the airbags to deploy. also, my front seat passenger's airbag deployed. i took it to honda dealership that i purchased it from. they said it was not a manufacturer defect. i filed a claim with my insurance company as instructed by honda. i then got a call that i was responsible for $100.00. i have now received a letter from my insurance company that it is a manufacturer defect and they deny my claim. *tr

There was a premature failure of the srs module in our 2008 honda accord which, according to a local honda representative, renders the airbags useless in a crash or can cause premature deployment. at the time, my wife was pregnant and drove 100 miles roundtrip (highway) daily to work. i needed this part addressed asap. multiple honda dealerships refused to service the vehicle in a timely fashion (inside a 2 week window), would not offer a complementary vehicle, and insisted on charging a diagnostics fee when i had already performed the diagnostics through work and associated partnerships (fleet management provider and maintenance vendors). honda refused to warranty the part and i had to pay out of pocket close to $500 for parts and labor. seems silly as this was a safety related service. *tr....updated 12/15/15 *bf updated 7/06/17 *cn
