Major electrical problems began about 2 years ago. radio display won't light, but radio/cd still plays; air conditioner cools intermittently, though compressor is working and freon is adequate; tail lights sometimes work, sometimes don't; ignition switch makes a noise as though the engine was already started when i turned the key, even though it wasn't - eventually the ignition switch had to be replaced (problem still occurs from time to time); brake calipers have always pulsed no matter how slow i come to a stop; and airbag light comes on for no apparent reason as there is not hindrance to the sensor switch mechanism below the seats. *tr

While driving at night on the freeway at 65 mph, the passenger side curtain airbags deployed without explanation (both the bag that deploys through the ceiling liner and the bag that deploys through the side of the front passenger seat). due to the violence and confusion of the deployment explosion, i first thought that the right side of my vehicle must have been crushed in a collision with an unseen semi-trailer truck. ears ringing from the concussion, i initially fought to control the vehicle, but soon realized that the tires were still intact. as the smoke cleared, i saw that the nearest vehicles were 100+ yards ahead or behind my vehicle. at the next exit, i inspected the vehicle under a street light. there was no apparent damage to the exterior. during later inspections by an insurance adjustor and the honda dealership, no cause for deployment was found. there was no damage to the undercarriage and hence no evidence that an object hit the undercarriage to trigger the deployment. the only external damage was a small golf-ball sized dent in the roof over the right center pillar. the dent was apparently caused by the strong torque that the deploying side-curtain airbag applied to the welded roof mount to which the air bag package bolts. hence, all interior and exterior damage to the vehicle (>$3000 usd) was caused by the false air bag deployment itself. the insurance company concluded there was no evidence of a collision and refused to cover the damages. the honda dealership similarly refused to cover the damage since the vehicle was out of warranty. the dealership further claimed that the air bag controllers do not save the state of the sensors when a deployment is triggered, and hence it is not possible to diagnose failures. i find it disturbing that so-called 'safety' equipment in a properly maintained vehicle can self-destruct and potentially kill the occupant and neither the insurance company nor the manufacturer takes any responsibility. *tr
I was driving to work on 9/21/2010. traffic was coming to a stop and i began to apply my brake. upon applying brake my vehicle accelerated causing me to rear end another vehicle. my air bags did not deploy and i'm not sure what my rate of speed was because i was trying to stop when the car accelerated. my front end is damaged to the tune of $4,886.08. after my accident i was confused about how it happened. i knew i had was paying attention on just didn't ram into another car. i was on a street was several school bus stops and they where making their rounds. so speeding is not an option. i was talking with my fiance and he stated that this has happened to him once while driving my car. he did not have an accident, and also thought it may or may not have been operator error it kind of shocked and confused him as well. i'm going to have my vehicle checked while being repaired. i just want this looked into this was really scary and could have ended up much worse. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was unknown.
My 2004 honda accord ex started illuminating the front airbag on my instrument panel. i was wondering if this a unsafe warning about my airbags. i have read other complaints and it seems no one was reimbursed for fixing the problem, that is listed as a recall. do we have any other means of getting it fixed? *tr
2004 honda accord. the srs warning light was coming on intermittently. when it came on, if i restarted car it usually disappeared. it started happening more frequently. i took it into honda, they diagnosed it as code 61-10 left front buckle failure and replaced it under lifetime warranty. *tr
1. (the events) moving the driver's seat forward for my 5' tall wife and moving the seat all the way back when i drive, i am 6' tall, the air bag warning light will come on. 2. (the failure) air bag warning light, happens all the time, from just minutes at a time to days at a time, a failure of the sps causes the air bag system to default to full inflation pressure, regardless of the seat position. 3. (corrections made) none. i noticed a recall for this car 'nhtsa campaign id number: 07v001000' and contacted honda motor co. for recall repair information, they checked my vin number and said that there were no recalls for this car. i connected my obd2 scanner to the car and there were no codes. i am not alone, checking different honda forums, there are many honda owners with this same problem. *tr
Airbag light comes on because of a faulty sensor under the driver's side seat. while you published recall information for this problem, honda is attempting to make me pay to fix the problem that they created. they stated that it is not listed for my vin # however, if a recall exist for the problem my vehicle should be fixed free of charge. *tr
The airbag warning light is on most of the time. the light is on when the car is started and stays on while in motion and stays on at an idle or in park. once in a while the light goes off, however, rarely. it stays on most of the time.
2004 honda accord has an intermittent problem with the drivers seat belt. a contact in the seat belt latch is causing the air bag system to malfunction. my local honda dealership stated that the air bag will not function with this problem. an internet search shows many honda?s with the same problem. this problem in the seat belt disables the air bag and also disables the seat belt warning light which warns the driver if the seat belt is not latched. the honda warranty states that ??any honda seat belt component that fails to function properly during normal use? is covered by a lifetime warranty. however, honda is refusing to replace the seat belt latch under warranty. *tr
The air bag sensor light for our 2004 honda accord is on almost all the time while driving. sometimes goes off, sometimes just stay on the whole time we drive. i believe it's under the air bag recall (nhtsa campaign #07v001000), but when we call the dealership they said our vin number is not in the recall list. i need to know why our vin number is not on the list and we have the same problem that's. *tr
Auto purchased new, never in an accident or damaged. airbag light on, dealership replaced sensor free, replaced component at a cost to me for 300.00, airbag light still on. they now say the harness needs to be replaced at a cost to me of 300.00. why is this not a manufacturing problem? no one can answer why i must pay to have this defect fixed. *tr
I was hit by a truck from behind while i was waiting for oncoming cars to pass ( i had to turn left). the truck was going at least 50 m/h. my honda is totaled. none of the six airbags in the car deployed. *tr
Over the past 10 months, starting approximately august 2009, the air light in my 2004 honda accord exl would intermittently come on then go back off. more recently, it comes on a daily basis. when i buckle my seatbelt and start the car it may appear and stay on the entire time while driving. then when i stop and turn off the car then turn it back on, the light may or may not show up again. i found that there was a nhtsa campaign number: 07v001000 for 2004 honda accord. "component: air bags:frontal:sensor/control module summary: on certain vehicles, the seat position sensor (sps) detects the driver's seating position and adjusts the air bag inflation pressure accordingly. the wiring harness for the sps was attached to the seat frame in the wrong location and may have been over tightened. the sensor wire may break and cause the air bag warning light to be illuminated, and the sps to fail. consequence: a failure of the sps causes the air bag system to default to full inflation pressure, regardless of the seat position. full deployment of the driver's air bag can increase the risk of injury for smaller drivers in a frontal crash. remedy: dealers will replace the seat position sensor wiring subharness. the recall will begin on or about february 8, 2007. owners may contact honda at 1-800-999-1009." i contacted america honda motor and they said that this recall was on the 2004 accord lx and ex but not my exl model or my vin number. i feel that my car is exhibiting the same issues and should have been included in the recall. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact noticed that the air bag warning light would sporadically illuminate on the instrument panel, which indicated that the frontal air bags were inoperative. in the event of a crash, the air bags may not deploy. the manufacturer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 07v001000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module); therefore, the contact would be responsible for the repairs. the vehicle has not been repaired. the failure mileage was 39,000 and current mileage was 41,000. 8/7/09 *cn updated 08/11/09.*jb
Random deployment of passenger side airbags. side curtain, and door airbag. 2004 honda accord coupe. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact noticed that the wire underneath the driver's seat failed due to the air bag sensor module. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v001000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module). the vehicle will be repaired at the contact's expense. the failure and current mileages were 52,000.
I have complained to honda about my transmission slipping, almost stalling out and then taking a huge jerk...it normally happens when letting up off my gas...this has been ongoing for almost 2 years; last night i had the ride of my life in only a matter of seconds! i was stopping by the bank to get cash from the atm; as i let up off my gas, the car did a hard jerk and jumped the sidewalk hitting the corner of the bank. i'm so glad no one was using the atm at this time. my airbag never deployed and my seat belt released for me to get out but now it is jammed and will not pull out enough for me to wear it! with all the complaints i've found that are very similar to mine going back as early as 2003, i really feel that honda should take these complaints more serious and that they should be held responsible for repairing the issue and any damages incurred due to the issue. i am a nervous wreck and i hope no one will experience what i just went through. there should be a thorough investigation requiring honda to fix this problem. *tr
2004 honda accord ex 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual, original owner. had honda handle the recall fix on driver front airbag when that recall was issued years ago. everything ok per honda and the dashboard indicators. within the last 2 years the dashboard light for driver's front airbag will intermittently come on, stay on for entire trips. haven't been able to connect its activation to any specific occurrence or regular pattern. ask my independent mechanic about it and he referred me to the dealer. haven't made an appointment. any news from other owners? *tr
Air bags: frontal:sensor/control module indicator light came on suddenly on july 22, 2008. subsequent examination by honda dealer service department revealed that the wiring harness for the sps which was attached to the seat frame was broken. dealer denied any responsibility, as had honda america, despite the fact that a recall announcement for this very problem was issued 1/2/2007 (nhtsa campaign number: 07v001000). they claim that my car's vin # was not part of the recall which makes me responsible for fixing the problem. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the srs (air bag) indicator illuminated in her vehicle. the dealer performed a diagnostic, but could not produce an error code. the dealer then reprogrammed the sensors in the driver's side air bag and the indicator dimmed. recently, the contact noticed that the indicator was illuminated again. the dealer stated that the air bag needed to be replaced. she was informed that her vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 07v001000. the manufacturer confirmed that the vin was excluded and offered no assistance. the current mileage was approximately 61,950 and failure mileage was approximately 51,000. updated 4/28/09 *cn updated 04/30/09.*jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact noticed that the air bag warning light would sporadically illuminate on the instrument control panel. on one occasion, the light remained on for approximately 20 minutes. the dealer stated that her vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 07v001000 (air bags:frontal:sensor/control module); therefore, the contact would be responsible for the repair costs. the manufacturer did not provide any assistance. the failure and current mileages were 57,000.
On may 14, 2008, i brought my 2004 honda accord ex to my local honda dealer because the srs (airbag) indicator came on and remained on during operation. the dealer charged me $263 for replacing the wiring harness under the driver's seat. i believe that the repair should have been completed at no charge because there is an outstanding nhtsa recall (07v001000) that specifically refers to the srs indicator and problems with the wiring harness for 2004 honda accord models. my service rep at the dealership said that the vin on my car did not fall in the vin range for the recall, but the documentation for nhtsa recall 07v001000 does not specify a range of vins for 2004 models, only for 2005 models. i am asking that the nhtsa clarify and/or expand the vin range for 2004 honda accords to include my vehicle and that the dealer reimburse me for the charges i have already paid. *tr
My air bag light has been coming on my honda accord for about 2 months. i took it to frank brown dealership. they kept it all day and did not find anything wrong with it. the light comes on continually. i am taking it back in tomorrow because you never know if air bag will go off. they charge $75 diagnostic fee even if they do not repair the problem. *tr
On saturday 04/12/08 my wife and 12 month boy were involved in an accident , with another vehicle that failed to stop at a stop sign. my wife did not have time to really apply her brakes and had a head on collision with the drivers side of the other persons vehicle. my wife's airbags in our 04 honda accord did not deploy. my wife broke her bone in her left hand in four places and we are waiting to see if she will need bone pins to rectify her injury. my son "thank god" was uninjured. if they can repair our vehicle, we feel that our vehicle would be unsafe to operate on a daily basis due to the airbags not deploying in this accident. my wife and myself are self employed and are now both unable to work at this time due to her injury and the daily care of our 12 month old boy. *tr
My 2004 honda accord exl generated a seat position sensor srs code at 85,000 miles. srs light was continuously on. i found the nhtsa campaign # 07v001000 recall for the exact same issue on the 2004 accords, but my vin was not included. the honda dealer would not cover the cost of the repair as a result, but was fully aware of this "common" issue. they indicated i should not have the issue again once fixed. i also contacted honda and notified them of the extreme safety-related issue, but they refused to cover the cost of the repair. now 4 years later at 155,000 miles, the srs light is once again on and the code indicates the same seat position sensor issue. i contacted honda once again and raised the issue. i unfortunately received no compensation or understanding for the repair. i stressed the fact that this is a critical safety-related problem and honda should take the matter more seriously. *tr
Received a safety recall notice from honda with the title: "2004-05 accord driver's seat position sensor harness replacement" called dealership to schedule appointment and no hours available on weekends to perform maintenance. my job during the week prevents me from being able to have the work done. need to have completed on weekend. dealership is "rensselaer honda, 770 hoosick road, troy, new york 12180" phone number: 518-279-1171. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving 35 mph, the air bags on the passenger side opened up like curtains in the front and rear seats of the vehicle. the ceiling on the passenger side was split in the middle. there was no impact or crash involved. the contact took the vehicle to the honda dealer for repair, but they refused to acknowledge the air bag defect and would not repair it for free. the honda manufacturer spoke with the dealer and concluded that they were not paying for the failed air bags. the current and failure mileages were 64,474. updated 03-04-08 *bf
Drivers side, side curtain airbags deployed for no apparent reason while driving 45 on a rural road. slight bruising on my arm and ear ringing occurred along with some stress added to 3 year old and wife with concerns about future and random airbag deployments. *tr
Summary: on certain vehicles, the seat position sensor (sps) detects the driver's seating position and adjusts the air bag inflation pressure accordingly. the wiring harness for the sps was attached to the seat frame in the wrong location and may have been over tightened. the sensor wire may break and cause the air bag warning light to be illuminated, and the sps to fail. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while pulling into a parking space, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and jumped over two curbs and a bush. the vehicle finally came to a stop when it crashed into a parked vehicle. the contact had her foot on the brake pedal during the acceleration. the air bags failed to deploy. the occupant seated in the passenger seat sustained lower back injuries because the seat belt failed to restrain the passenger and the contact. the vehicle is currently being repaired at a body shop and will be taken to the honda dealer to be diagnosed. police report number 07171505 was filed with the cochie county sheriff's department. the speed was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 39,000. the consumer stated the air bag light had illuminated, however there was no air bag deployment. updated 10/10/07. *jb
2004 honda accord with several problems since purchase. consumer states that it all began with the vehicle jerking, warning lights illuminating, brake pads were low, transmission replaced, broken motor mounts, and the horn stopped working. *kb when the consumer took the vehicle back to the dealership, he noticed the srs light was on, which may have been due to the horn not working.
Red air bag light went on in aug of 2007, took to dealer was told the battery was bad and replaced it. i had a new battery put im the previous year (2006-july. i was then told that the srs unit could be bad, but was not replaced. the light was then turned off. in aug of 2008 the light turned on again, i was told the srs unit was bad again and this would cost 500.00 dollars to fix, it was no longer under warranty. i am feeling taken advantage of the situation. it is now july of 2009 and the light is on again. it seems just as soon as it gets hot the light goes on. i feel this is a safety hazard and that i should not be responsible for it. could you please help me with this problem. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 honda accord. while swerving to avoid a deer in the road, the contact crashed into the side of a tree at 30 mph. the vehicle spun twice into the same lane. the air bags deployed after the crash had already occurred. both passengers were injured. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to a dealer and the insurance company stated that the vehicle was destroyed. the contact was unaware of the recall on the air bags at the time of the crash. the vin and engine size were unknown. the current and failure mileages were 52,000. the consumer provided photos of the vehicle, insurance information, and recall information pertaining to the vehicle. updated 09/10/07 *tr
I need some help with a recall problem, i own a 2004 honda accord, and the airbag light came on about a month ago, there was a recalled from honda for this problem, but when i took it to the dealership, and i was told that this vehicle was not on the recall. they were refusing to fix it, they wanted me to pay for the sensor. although it was the same sensor that was recalled by honda, i didn't understand why this vehicle being the same model and same year was not on the recall. *ak
2004 honda accord with air bag that deployed for no reason customer wants to reimbursed for repairs**cc the consumer was told that the air bag deployed because something may have triggered the air bag sensor. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. when the contact started the ignition, the srs air bag warning indicator illuminated. the failure occurred spontaneously regardless if the vehicle was in motion or at start- up and whether the front passenger seat was occupied or unoccupied. the contact stated there was a recall which could possibly be related to the srs defect, recall 07v001000 (air bags: frontal: sensor/control module). the authorized dealer was notified of the failure and they informed the contact that her vin was not included. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 20,000. updated 5/2/11 *cn updated 05/19/11
2004 honda accord lx v6 with safety recalls**nar**cc while accelerating from a stop, the automatic transmission exhibited a problem shifting into second gear. the consumer did some research online and found a nhtsa recall (o4v176000) which addressed the problem the consumer was having with the vehicle. the consumer also found a recall on the frontal air bags (04v551000). the consumer never received any recall notices. *nm
My wife was driving to work between 35-40 mph on a clear day when the side air bag curtain deployed for no reason. the drivers side seat bag partially deployed. luckily, she was able to control the vehicle, bring it to a stop and we had it towed to the honda dealer. my wife helen, had temporary hearing loss (several hours) as a result of the curtains deploying. even though the car is under warranty honda has so far refused to fix the problem and after examining the car could find no reason for the curtains to deploy. *jb
The srs (supplemental restraint system) dash light comes on and will not go off until the part is replaced. the dealership told me the airbags would not operate or would not operate properly if a wreck occurred because the part was "bad". i was provided a rental car while the part was replaced. previous research revealed a previous investigation into this problem on the 2001 honda accord. (why is the same defective part still being used?). *jb
Driving down road @ 40 mph, in a 2004 honda accord lx, the passenger seat side air bag deployed for no apparent reason, injuring the passenger. at this point, nothing has been done to repair the damages by honda of america or state farm insurance company due to it's rare circumstances. honda technicians and their district manager said they found no good reason for deployment. they tested the airbag parts after the deployment, and they are currently still functioning properly. theorizing, they commented that a bolt may have smacked up under the car and hit a sensor, creating a frequency mimicking the sound of an impact. according to the honda technicians, these side air bags are activated/actuated on frequency so the second they hear a crunch or glass break, they shoot out. he said that if something created a sound similar to that of an accident or vehicle impact, that they could go off. so, car still is not repaired, and has been checked by honda and state farm adjustors. neither has found any amount of damage to suggest anything out of the ordinary was hit on the roadway, just a small scratch on the bottom of the car, which may or may not have been the culprit. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 65 mph on a dry freeway, the driver's air bag deployed without incident. the contact did not hit anything in the road nor drive over a bump in the road prior to the incident. the air bag light had not illuminated. the vehicle was pushed off of the road and remained on the side of the road pending a tow truck. there were injuries sustained. the dealership was not notified. *ak
