Was driving my daughter to school in the 2004 honda accord v6. heard a loud pop and it just stopped and revved up in every gear and when i tried putting it in park it made a loud grinding noise. had to have it towed home and it hasn't worked since!

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while attempting to accelerate, a loud sound was heard and the vehicle suddenly stalled and would not drive forward. the cause of the failure was not determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the local dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was 158,000. the vin was invalid.

While our son was driving his 2004 accord the transmission, without warning or any indication, went out and he lost power while going approximately 40mph. it is apparent with extensive research that i have done that transmissions in these vehicles have been a known problem and honda corporate is unwilling to do anything to investigate what caused the issue. the vehicle has had regular maintenance done and all the paperwork for anything major being done. i do not understand how if you maintain a vehicle that something like this can occur without warning or no indications that is was about to go out.

Hello, i was wondering if anyone could help me with this. i own a 2004 honda accord which has less than 84k miles. it recently very suddenly had an issue with the transmission while on the highway. now, a mechanic has determined it must be replaced. i think i found an applicable recall, recall nhtsa id number: 04v176000 honda/automatic transmission. i looked up the vin number in your lookup tool, but it did not show up. however, i think this is because the car and/or recall is over 15 years old. i believe i have found documents on your site that show that the vin falls within the possibly effected vehicles. in this document: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2004/rcdnn-04v176-4295.pdf - there is a section that describes my vehicle - honda accord 4d v6, certain 2004 model year - 1hgcm665*4a[xxx] ' 1hgcm668*4a[xxx]. my vehicle has vin number 1hgcm66554a[xxx]. i believe i fall within this window. would anyone be able to verify this for me? when i purchased the car, used, directly from the dealership (huntington honda, about 4 years ago), this recall was not disclosed to me. i feel that if there was an unrepaired open recall (which i believe would have still been open at the time i purchased the vehicle), it should have been disclosed, is that correct? if it was not disclosed, i feel that is unjust - do i have any grounds or rights for them to repair the transmission? i appreciate any help you can offer. sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tt *tr*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle jerked when attempting to accelerate out of first gear. the contact had to drive in the right lane to avoid being rear ended. the vehicle would eventually accelerate and drive normally; however, once the vehicle came to a stop, the failure would recur. luther st. cloud honda (1500 hwy 23 west, waite park, mn 56387, (320) 281-4465) stated that there were no recalls and did not assist. the manufacturer was called, but the contact was placed on hold and then the call disconnected. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 175,000.

I was driving down a city road and the vehicle started to accelerate on its own and it did not want to shift gear. i was able to apply brakes but the car continued to accelerate to very high rpms. i had no choice but to turn the shut off the car midway and pull-over. while stationary and car shut off on side of the road i tried to turn it back it and it automatically jumped to high rpm and was never able to change gears from park to drive or anything because the car would take off. after 45 minutes of letting the car figure itself out, it stopped revving too high rpm and was able to go back home. the issue has stopped but now when i start the car up and switch from park to drive the car has a delayed engagement. also, now my steering wheel locks up ever once in a while and when making turns randomly. i have checked power steering and no leaks or any sign on a repair that needs to be completed.

Transmission loose power when driving !!!

While driving on 787 in albany n.y. my 2004 honda accord locked up in the front end and seemed to slam back into drive i had all of my children and my husband in the car at the time of the incident we all were jerked forward due to the sudden lock up we were able to get it home and realized that transmission fluid was pouring out we inspected ourselves and took the transmission pan off to find what appeared to be thick metal chunks/gears inside my transmission pan and now will not hold fluid. luckily no one was hurt but this could have potentially been deadly.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving 65 mph, the gear shift failed and shifted into first gear without warning. the contact was able to pull over and restart the vehicle. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. the contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing the same failure as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 200,000.

Car stopped while driving on a busy street. transmission failure.

Abs/tcs module failing causing transmission no to go into gear or jump around gears and hard shifts and acts like transmission failure all with out giving any codes only code i have is 84-1 car will start and drive anywere fine for about 15 to 30 mins then starts acting up like the transmission is failing, with help of honda mechanic and other accord owners saving me from buying an new 1300 transmission i have found abs/tcs module failure

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the gears failed to shift properly from park into the other gears. the failure occurred intermittently without warning. in addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the vehicle was taken to mclarty honda (10 colonel glenn ct, little rock, ar 72210, (501) 227-7000) to determine the cause of the failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vin and failure mileage were not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. when the contact placed the vehicle into reverse and depressed the accelerator pedal, it moved forward. when the gear was shifted into drive, the vehicle did not move when the accelerator pedal was depressed. in addition, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

While pulling out into traffic transmission slipping very bad almost cause rear end collision. now slips in all gears. all maintenance work done as required but appears transmission has failed. car has been taken care of very well and now has 150k, but still this is a shock to have this happen to honda and i see all over the internet honda transmission issues

The transmission slipped into neutral while driving, luckily no accident, but left me stranded in the middle of an intersection! could have been disastrous!

I purchased a honda accord 2004 v6, with 44,954 miles, certified at carson honda, in carson california on feb.9, 2006. this is my first car purchase from a dealership.i sometimes us to see the airbag light on and the last time i saw i on was about 2 weeks ago. i did call american honda in torrance,ca. i had concern re. the takata airbag recall. they asked me the mileage of my car i told the rep. ,it had about 170,000, he thought it was funny, because the car had so many miles. i did tell them that i had seen the airbag icon on and i had trouble with the transmission which had to be replaced, they said there are no recalls and end of call. where can one see old recalls on car? i did receive a card called" important legal notice for owners of vehicles with takata airbag inflators". chapter 11 case. 17-11375(bls) my car is not in the recall am and am very concerned about the safety of passengers and myself. american honda or carson honda are not helping me with my concerns. i feel that vehicles with this takata airbag should be replaced. is is very scary hat people have died instead of been saved.

I was driving on an express way, and all of suddenly the transmission would not engage and slip to neutral while my engine rev up to higher rpm. my speed limit went from 50 to almost zero, but luckily traffic was light and i was able to move to the shoulder safely. same thing happened to my son a couple of days ago. i had my transmission fluid changed yesterday hoping this will prevent it from happening again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving 30 mph, the speed began to drop and the transmission stalled. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic were it was diagnosed, but not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 154,000.

Transmission slipping and grinding. took it to our trusted mechanic and he said the transmission is failing and has to be replaced. the vehicle only has 128,000 miles. there was a nhtsa recall #: 04v176000 for 2003/2004 hondas due to transmission failure which could lead to an accident. i contacted honda and they are not willing to help.

The car was just amazing when i bought it. even tho i purchased it used i went straight to a service shop had the oil changed and complete tune up done expecting to enjoy this car i have always heard great things about. the first couple months were great, no worries. then it seems like out of no where i noticed a slight difference in the way it drove, just the complete feeling of the car was different. the next day i went out to eat and the transmission shifted hard. okay i thought just need to pay attention, that night when heading to the store is when it became constant, shifting from drive to reverse a hard shift, from 1to2 slip 2to3 slip, then once it heated up stopped. today is the second day of having to drive it and the light for the engine came on. the car has only 160,000 miles on it, supposedly still in its prime according to early honda owners, my cousin had a early 90's model accord i know lived to almost 300,000 on the same engine and transmission. what makes this generation not accountable or not as worthy of the same quality that has given honda the loyalty of customers it has now. they have the audacity to turn a blind eye on this problem, knowing that these problems are a self inflicted and the direct result of cheap parts and a design flaw they allowed to be mass produced knowing, the "certainty" of mass failure it would create after the warranty freeing them of liability. leaving the dedicated customers, the people who have helped honda build there foot hold on the automotive industry in the usa, in the wind. where is the justice, the accountability, knowingly producing a product that's design is inadequate, knowing due to improper fluid control or lack of proper fluid flow will undoubtedly cause failure of the powertrain. how is it not criminal where is the accountability i thought producing products which u know are default is illegal. *tr

I was on my way home from work, exiting the downtown area and entering the freeway, when the transmission slipped out of gear. the transmission would not re-engage without moving the shifter down to the d3 gear first. i was able to limp the car using this method to the nearest transmission repair shop. the transmission slipped out of gear several more times on the drive to the repair facility. it was diagnosed with a faulty third clutch and a repair estimate of $3200-3400 for a rebuilt transmission. i chose a different repair shop, with an equally good reputation, and had the transmission rebuilt for $2700. it has been back to the same repair shop 3 times after the rebuild with similar symptoms. they are not able to determine the cause of the recurring slippage. research reveals that hundreds of other honda accord owners have encountered the same issue of transmission failure. it appears to be the same parts failing in a majority of instances. the transmission will slip out of gear from a dead stop, in motion at slow speeds or moderate speeds with no detectable pattern. the transmission failing while the car is in motion creates an extremely dangerous, potentially fatal, driving situation. i don't feel safe driving this vehicle. honda has issued a recall on this transmission already but not for this particular problem. my vehicle doesn't qualify for the recall. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving approximately 45 mph, a clicking noise started to emerge from the engine compartment. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle stalled. the contact coasted to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. in 2004,the transmission was repaired through a manufacturer's recall. the approximate failure mileage was 147,000.

2004 honda accord v6 automatic transmission. the transmission is going out at only 145,000 miles. i called a few transmission shops and the 2003, 2004, & 2005 honda accords with the v6 engine are known to go out around this mileage. i called honda and they denied that there was anything wrong. i checked other online forums and they all state that the transmissions are faulty and should be recalled.

Jan. 2015 traveling at 25 to 30 mph, driver front lower ball joint separated causing wheel to turn sideways in wheel well, which resulted in disabling vehicle, seperated cv shaft and fender damage. no injuries and had to have towed. may 2015 traveling 20 to 25 mph, passenger lower ball joint separated causing wheel to turn sideways in wheel well, resulted in disabling vehicle and damage to fender. local police were called, no injuries and vehicle towed. july 2016 backing out of driveway, passenger front lower ball joint separated, causing wheel to turn sideways in wheel well, resulted in disabling vehicle, damage to fender, separated cv shaft, and dented the oil pan, no injuries. there is a fault in the design of the lower ball joint placement, the weight of the vehicle is naturally causing the ball to press against the retaining edge of the socket, resulting in metal on metal contact causing the retaining edge to wear resulting in separation of the ball joint. the only way to correct this would be to redesign the front suspension steering knuckle and lower control arm. the ball joint should be pressed into the socket with weight on the wheels not pulling it apart. my only suggestions until something is done about this, is go to a service garage and have them check the ball joints with a pry bar between the steering knuckle and lower control arm, if there is movement have it replaced and keep your receipts. just shaking the wheel by hand isn't enough to see the movement. do not pick the vehicle up by the lower control arm, it can result in control arm bushing separation.

4 cylinder automatic transmission started slipping during acceleration from a complete stop. transmission would cause the car to her forward when breaking and after coming to a complete stop. the transmission completely failed at just over 54,000 miles and will not upshift. the car will only go about 20 mph, when the accelerator is engaged, it only revs up the engine and the vehicle redlines, the transmission will not shift into a higher gear.

2004 accord transmission began leaking at the same time as abs trouble, what seems to be suspension problems (bad springs?), hood struts failed. these all happened about a month after one dealer replaced an engine mount and leaking power steering fluid container. the trunk opening switch would not work but was too expensive to repair. i had the abs looked at at another dealer and for $100 an "electrical switch" under the gas pedal was replaced. the power steering fluid was leaking again. they said that the transmission needed to be fixed for $2000 and that my car was not in the recall. i saw many complaints about transmission leaks online and about the gas door not opening. the dealer didn't want to hear about that. (engine mounts and hood struts are popular items on amazon.) i was lucky that my head wasn't under there when the hood fell. i had opened the hood to check the power steering fluid and went to the trunk to get some, when it fell. i was able to replace them from amazon. i had the engine cut out twice while driving in the rain after last inspection. i lost steering and saw the engine light come on so i quickly started the engine again. about a month apart. it didn't happen again. it seems strange to me that all of this happened within 6 months after an inspection.

While driving the speed limit to take my children to school this morning 02-18-2016, my honda was in the last gear but suddenly downshifted into a power gear causing the car to jerk. my children and i were almost rear ended but the f-150 truck behind is swerved to keep from bitting us. i was very afraid also cause the seat belt around my children tightened to the point where my baby boy started crying cause it was like it choked him. after dropping them off, i got to the stop light which is on a hill and the car would not move. put in park and cut off and car then went into gear but did not change fears to where it reved up the rpms. cruised down hill to my home and decided to back up and the car would it even back up. i would like to know what can be done cause there seems to be a problem with honda and all the can tell me is that there is no recall i. my car except for the power steering. i did research and there are hundreds of complaints about similar problems if not the same.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving at various speeds, the driver side gear failed and there was a sudden increase of engine rpms. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be rebuilt. the contact was made aware that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 192,000. updated 04/04/16*lj the consumer stated the vehicle nose dived as if the brakes had been applied.*js

Car is serviced as specified, no issues (second owner for 5 years). without warning, transmission failed. vehicle was being driven on surface streets, made odd sound and stopped operating.

While driving home from dental appt, vehicle started to lose acceleration all of a sudden; driving normally in traffic then car started to jerk/ and rpms started to get higher before slowing down. car then slows in traffic and does not accelerate even though shift is engaged in drive. was able to nurse my car to mechanic's shop, determined transmission failure $4100 to rebuild!! called honda, was told car is not covered by recall, plus since it has 97k miles and 12-years it is not covered by extended warranty. thanks honda for standing behind your products...will be looking at new fords this week.....thank good this failure occurred at a relatively safe side street. could really cause a major accident!!

I am original owner of this car purchased at beginning of 2004. 12 years later we are having transmission failure at 90,000 miles. i called honda because their website listed the recall for my year and model but when i searched it by vin no recall applies. they told me that the recall doesn't apply to my vin. i asked them how they determine that. is there a serial number cut off after which honda made changes and they can prove my car is not effected? the answer was "all i can tell you is your vin is not included in the recall". well, i did some research as my vehicle was having the exact same problems as described in the recall. nhtsa recall number 04v-176 has related documents on file and one of them being a letter dated june 28 2004 from american honda motor co. inc. signed by a william r. willen. this letter clearly identifies my car as being included in the safety related recall and i should have received a notice of recall in late 2004. i never received any notice. some how my car experienced no issues until 2015, but the issues did eventually show up. now today my car was failing to accelerate on the highway and also trying to downshift to low gears at highway speeds and then suddenly failed to drive at all. we had some indications in the past couple weeks and had the transmission drained and filled 4 times to try to remedy this problem. i talked with two certified honda mechanics who both told me the transmission was going to fail and nothing could be done. well, they were right, but here i am in this situation now because honda failed to recall my car in 2004 as it should have been. for years now we have unknowingly been driving a car that could have caused the driver to lose control and crash. honda did not fulfill their duties in this recall. i suspect there are many more like mine still on the road. honda should fix all the cars effected retroactive.

I did tune up my car because is run not good. the ball joint broke good the happen on street in repair get new ball joint and new axle both thing for drivers side used car had a good on gas mileage but after start giving bad mileages. many time tune up. after that car not pick speed. one day i did google search. i find honda recall for transmission over one million. i call honda dealer about transmission recall he say need up date software but they don't have recall about this yet . but they have recall airbags was which haven already done. now my car have problems with transmission ,ball joint axle ,smoking. radio not works another i hope. i get recall soon . i wasn't know that to file complaints. now i know and i helps other. *tr

This seems to be a common issue as just looking it up today another person suffered the same issue i have, down to the exact conversation with honda. we ahve had the '04 honda accord for 4ish years now. it has driven great since we bought it and tested fine with the honda dealer before purchasing. all of a sudden we started experiencing some slipping of the transmission. we immediatly had the system flushed and filled and all seemed to be good, for about a week. 3 days before christmas, my wife was getting onto a busy section of a major highway and the transmission slipped and she was unable to accelorate nearly getting run over by a tractor trailer. she was able to pull over and get home safely. i did some research and found the recall notice based off the models make and year. searching the vin came back as not affected by the recall, even though we are experiencing the exact problems outlined in the transmission recall notice. i called honda and spoke to a very friendly representative that simply informed me the same thing another customer was told the same day..."your vin doesn't fall into the list of effected units. you should have a honda repair center diagnose and repair the issue." i hope that an investigation is started and this is found to be a known issue and honda works with all current owners to get this repaired before someone gets seriously injured.

The headlights flicker between normal output and dim output making it very difficult to verify if the headlights are even operational at times much less see in front of you while driving. it looks as if the headlights are rapidly turning off and on. this has been happening since the car was brand new but every time it's taken to a honda dealership, they don't know what the issue is. i have paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars repairing random things honda "thinks" might fix the problem but it's still a major issue that affects safety of the honda driver, passengers and other drivers on the road.

Transmission failed while driving on highway with no warning.

Power steering has been replaced 2 times and it still makes the same noise when the car is cold, once it warms up the noise is no longer heard. several times while i have been driving the car loses power a clicking noise is heard and it's like the car was turned off but it's still on. it has happened both at 60 miles per hour or 25 miles per hour. i can't accelerate i have had to shut the car off and then start it back up. it has happened in the last 3 years a few times most recently being in december 2015

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost power. the contact shifted the vehicle to drive two. the vehicle hesitated momentarily and resumed normal operation. the failure recurred three times. the contact brought the vehicle to an independent mechanic who stated the fluid in the transmission was so burned that it resembled tar. the mechanic recommended flushing the transmission without placing in it a machine to see if the failure would correct itself. the vehicle was repaired, but recurred a day later. the contact was made aware of nhtsa campaign number: 04v176000 (power train). the manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but declined to assist since the vin was excluded from the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 150,000.

The transmission is faulty. gears downshift erratically and unpredictably while driving at high speeds. when starting up, oftentimes fails to shift up and car cannot accelerate, just redlines.

My wife was driving on a highway and she was in the second to the fastest lane on the highway and the car just locked up because of the transmission ,which made her go into the next lane and the car in that lane locked up there brakes and came very close to side sweeping each other ,at that point she had to get out in the middle of the highway and leave the car ,which was later pulled to the side of the highway the nhtsa recall #04v-176 mfr campaign id p38 and i was aware of this issue with this car ,so i always changed the transmission fluid after 5,000 miles

The transmission went out at 127,000 miles. driving home from lowe's on 09/20/2015, all at once the rpm went up but the car slowed down. my fastest speed to get home was 30 mph. at one time i stopped at a red light and then it wouldn't go at all!! i'm having the transmission rebuilt but am out of pocket on this accord, why???? vn#;[xxx] apparently someone forgot this car when doing recalls on the transmission and i am requesting this matter to get resolved asap. i also own a 1991 accord coupe, 196,000 miles: no problems at all with it. my email address:[xxx] phone #: [xxx] please don't push this under a rug and assume it will be ok now, cause it's not ok. i'm 57 years old and can't afford this to happen to me. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

First occurrence, tuesday august 18, 2015 driving into work, transmission slipped, rpms increased with no additional forward motion by car. then stopped and went to back into parking stall and car would not engage into reverse, finally it did started researching possible issues and found tons of recall and complaints online, driving home the car all of a sudden stuttered and downshifted violently this time it produced a check engine light (obdc: p0741), i called honda cust service and spoke with jason, he created a case # for me and stated i would need to have it diagnosed by a honda dealer and call them back. i called back the same number but this time option 7, customer service rep read thru my case and determined that because the vin did not indicate being part of the recall, the age of the vehicle and mileage, honda would not do anything to assist me. my transmission fluid smells burnt. i now have had to pay a transmission shop $3464.65 for a rebuilt transmission.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving at approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and an unknown warning light illuminated. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 139,865.

Textbook case of transmission failure for my '04 honda accord v-6 on friday, may 22, 2015. car failed on the 15 fwy outside of barstow, ca and had to be towed to the los angeles area. when i contacted american honda i was told that my vin was not part of the recall. my car, though 11 years old, had only 89.5k miles on it. it had been serviced at all times by my honda dealer, including transmission service 3 times, including january of 2015. i have all documentation. honda quoted me $5,642.40 for the repair, and also in a letter dated 6/24/15 confirmed that i need a new transmission assembly. i "escalated" my complaint to american honda and was offered $250 "customer loyalty card" which i initially declined. i then contacted american honda again and received a $300 card for the inconvenience that when my car was returned to me by honda the entire air intake system was missing!! it took the honda dealership 3 days t contact me and return the air intake system. i bought this honda accord brand new from the honda dealer and am the only owner/driver. i still am without a reliable vehicle and there is no reason that a transmission, which has been consistently serviced by the dealership, should fail with less than 90,000 miles on the vehicle. had i not been in the desert with lighter traffic, i would have been involved in an extreme crash with other vehicles. honda should repair my vehicle and acknowledge that the current recall fails to include additional vin that were affected. they focus their ad campaign on "helpful", yet they do not help their honda owners. shame on honda and i would like some results.

As i was driving on the highway the rpm needle went up and down and the car began to accelerate on its own and then did not respond, and then accelerated again. the car continued to do this a few times. when i got off the highway and my speed was reduced to 30 mph the car stopped moving although the car was still running, i hit the gas and the car didn't go anywhere. i turned off the car and then back on, and it moved again but, continued to stop moving a few times again after that. this occurred while i was on a busy street with a lot of traffic, cars were behind me and by me suddenly stopping without notice because the car stopped on its own, could have caused an accident. when the car accelerated on its own i could have ran into another vehicle causing an accident. attached is a link to people who had the same exact safety issue with the same make and model and year as my vehicle: honda has a history if having problems with their transmissions with this specific vehicle. http://www.carproblemzoo.com/honda/accord/2004/automatic-transmission-torque-converter-problems.php. *tr

04 honda accord v6- d(4) light starts blinking. brought it into the shop for diagnoses; 4th gear pressure switch. replaced 4th gear pressure switch. car seems to be working better. 3 days later; car only goes under cool conditions (tranny seems to work when the car has not reached regular / recommended operating temperature). when it reaches normal operating temperature, the motor starts revving, even in d. this has happened while at a stop and on a highway. when i was on the highway and the car had already warmed up, the engine revved and then suddenly jerked back. the feeling is like a manual transmission car downshifting without pressing on the gas; it jerks then decelerates. and from there it just revs and revs, like it's not catching the gears. so i had to pull over to the side of the highway a few times, thanks to this non-working transmission. when this occurs on the small roads, i would then have to pull over and turn off the car. after a few minutes, the car will engage into gear again, but not for long. this is a probable sign of overheating within the transmission, which can probably cause the tranny to slip? not 100% sure because i'm not a mechanic. so i was referred to contact american honda for a recall inquiry, and of course, my vin# doesn't have an open recall for transmission, meaning i pretty much screwed myself from the start when i bought this vehicle because there's a sketchy transmission in it. even if i got it replaced, what are the chances that the replaced one doesn't do the same thing? i understand that transmissions do not last forever on any vehicle, but if you just google: 7th gen accord transmission, you can read all the wonderful stories about fail honda accord transmissions, starting from year 2003; there's a community of authors. the worst part is, i got it replaced and i still don't feel any peace at mind. good luck *tr

As i was driving my car would not shift gears . specifically, i was driving on the freeway the car went from 60 mph down to 35 mph and would not slip into gear. this happened as i tried to accelerate to merge onto another freeway. it seemed as though the car was stuck in neutral which it was not. this was very dangerous because as other vehicles were traveling at high speeds my car nearly came to a halt on the freeway. luckily, i prayed my way into gear and it worked. it was quite scary since i was traveling with my child i easily could of been rear ended. no sensor lights turned on, there were no warning lights. my car has been serviced routinely and 2 days later it happened again. it is now at the dealership. when i read up on the problem it seems to be common. on one site i saw over 200 complaints for the same complaints and same make of the car. i can only imagine how many more complaints there have been. i hope that the federal agency and honda act responsibly and pay for the recall on these transmission problems. *tr

Transmission sudden total failure, without any previous indication or symptoms, while entering a freeway at an on ramp. near end of on ramp at about 35 mph, vehicle was merging into existing traffic that was coming faster than 35mph when car stopped accelerating but slowing instead. nearly rear end collision from traffic and subsequent traffic snarl as there was no place to go, nor any ability to make it go. *tr

I was driving on the interstate, moved into the left lane and attempted to pass, stepping down on the gas to accelerate. suddenly my (automatic) transmission slipped completely out of gear, my tachometer red-lined as the engine revved hard, and the card decelerated rapidly. i was nearly hit from behind but fortunate that the driver behind me was paying attention. i slowed rapidly, but my brake lights didn't come on, because i wasn't braking! my car slowed to dangerously low speeds in the left lane of the highway. every time i tried to give the car gas it was as if the transmission was in neutral and wouldn't provide drive. finally at around 20mph it started gripping, but if i tried to accelerate much the transmission would slip again. i was able to merge back into the right lane, which was scary because the cars behind me were going full highway speeds. i was able to pull the car off onto the shoulder of the road. i drove along the shoulder very slowly until i could make it to the first exit and limp my car to a repair shop. my transmission needed a complete rebuild. no only should this not happen on a car with relatively low mileage that has been well maintained, but this failure was dangerous! it happened completely without warning at high speeds on the interstate. it caused a rapid deceleration and a loss of control of the vehicle, and placed me in a very dangerous position trying to regain control. i researched my problem and found that honda had issued a recall for automatic transmissions on a large number of 2003/2004 accords. i checked my vin number against the recall (nhtsa recall number: 04v-176) and found that my vin was not covered by the recall, even though i experienced the exact same failure that the recall describes. why my vin specifically was not included in the recall is completely unacceptable considering this is a known problem. *tr

Car will not speed up and suddenly slowed down , been told transmission failed, needs new transmission. just did transmission service one month ago power steering oil leak and changed pipe and then power steering pump failed. *tr

Vehicle started to loses acceleration all of a sudden; diving normally in traffic then car started to jerk/ and rpms started to get higher before slowing down. car then stops in traffic and does not accelerate even though shift is engaged in drive. transmission failure that could have caused accident. vehicle eventually drove again after turning car off and back on but stalled again/ issue repeated. *tr
