Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2004 Honda Accord

Ignition is locking up at times or not turning on at all

Car would not always start when turning the key. sometimes is would start immediately and other times i would have to keep turning the key and eventually it would start. a few times it took me over 1/2 hour to get the car started. battery was less that a year old. had the battery checked and it was ok. had to take car to garage and have the starter replaced. i tried finding more information on line and found this is a common complaint with the honda accord. my vehicle is only 5 years old and has 63,000 miles on it. i should not of had to replace the starter. i had to pay $390.91 to replace the starter.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. when the vehicle was started, the driver's seat belt warning indicator illuminated and remained lit until the vehicle was turned off. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was unknown.

Seat belt will not reset the light is on constantly the wind shield wipers control the water will never pump the water out however the pump is good. the radio works however you can not see the panel and lights, that includes the air conditional and heater lights. the pain on all of my honda's are coming off or fading with a white color and spots all over.

Heads lights dim as i drive in city streets. honda has a service bulletin on this but never did a recall on hondas 2003 to 2005. the eld has a faulty solder joint. this is what the honda factory service bulletin states. this is very dangerous at night. part is over $550.00 plus labor.

There was a recall on the torque convertors for 2004 honda accords but i cannot get anyone to fix my honda's torque convertor under the recall

The panel lights on the radio has went out. i can't recall if it happened while i was driving or not, but i noticed it while driving. in the 2004 honda accord, the ac, radio, & clock share the same display. it was raining the other night while i was driving and my windows fogged up. it was impossible to find the defrost button at night since all the display lights stop working. this is a big safety issue and hopefully honda will step up to the plate and fix this issue to ensure their customers are safe while driving their vehicles.

The headlights flicker between normal output and dim output making it very difficult to verify if the headlights are even operational at times much less see in front of you while driving. it looks as if the headlights are rapidly turning off and on. this has been happening since the car was brand new but every time it's taken to a honda dealership, they don't know what the issue is. i have paid hundreds and hundreds of dollars repairing random things honda "thinks" might fix the problem but it's still a major issue that affects safety of the honda driver, passengers and other drivers on the road.

Radio does not play audio, randomly blasts static at very loud level, causing driver to be startled. no functions of radio work.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while the vehicle was parked, the air bag warning light illuminated and the radio failed to function. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake pads, dome light, and multiple parts needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 252,869.

Air bags replaced, after picking up car from honda dealer; car will not start. appears something is sucking all the juice so starter does not have enough power to start. car worked great before (besides the kill people at low speeds thing), handed over to honda, now wont start. mind you this car was actually recalled in 2014 but only just now received new bags. very un-pleased with the way honda handled this very scary situation.

While driving the vehicle at night, i experienced a spontaneous total electrical failure when switching the dash control which powers the digital thermometer/odometer control. this effected headlights, steering and braking, as if the car was turned completely off, but i was able to coast toward the road shoulder.

Radio stopped playing music and makes loud cracking noise that is startling when driving. when searching for solutions online, it was suggested "a chip for the audio output has failed and exploded on the internal printed circuit board." there are hundreds of complaints posted online by other honda accord owners. honda won't fix and some comments say that the non-dealer mechanics have further damaged the vehicle when trying fix the issue. the costs to possibly fix with chances of causing more damage is greater than $500. if it's not a common issue, honda should take responsibility and correct the issue. it is dangerously loud sometimes and causes me to lose focus on the road.

This reported issue is not specific to my 2004 honda accord, but applies to many vehicles. on almost a weekly basis, i see people driving their cars at night on freeways and city streets without their lights on, posing a danger to other motorists who might not see them. i believe the cause of this can be solved simply: change the light switch to not illuminate the dashboard unless the lights are on. my car always has its dashboard illuminated, regardless of whether the lights are on or not. there is a small "idiot light" of a green headlight when the lights are on, but it hardly noticeable. if instead the car's dashboard would be dark when the lights aren't on (like in 25+ year-old cars), i believe most drivers would be much less likely to forget to turn their lights on -- do you agree? *tr

Honda accord was at a complete stop when rear ended by another vehicle. the air bag sensor did come on but the air bag did not deploy. the air bag sensor remains on after impact. *tr

Battery light continually flickers intermittently. when the battery light flickers, my headlights get very dim, my a/c fans fluctuate in speed, and my aftermarket stereo amplifiers (2) cut out. when it first happened, i immediately took my vehicle to an auto parts store where they tested the battery, starter, and alternator. battery had a dead cell but was still holding a charge. starter and alternator tested ok. i bought a new battery on the spot. that did not correct the problem. i have brought the vehicle to get checked at multiple auto parts stores and the auto repair shop. no one can find anything wrong. every day seems to get a little worse. it has gotten to the point where the battery light is always on and the car loses power intermittently along with all of the other symptoms i have already listed. *tr

The display where the heater and radio is does not light up, we just purchased this veh 2/12/15... i tried to drive it last night and it's a safety issue after dark, u can't see to turn knobs/buttons or any thing to do w/the heater....u have to turn overhead done lights on to see the buttons, it's very dangerous. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving 60 mph, the instrument panel lighting failed to illuminate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the circuit board needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 143,000. the vin was not available.

Tl*the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was unavailable.

The unit lights behind the radio knobs, a/c functions etc. has gone out. it is a consistent issure with these honda's. honda is requiring almost a 1000.00 to fix. read the customers reviews online ..its a common issue.

I got back in my car in the parking lot at wal-mart and the center console display is no longer lighted. this is a safety concern because if the windows fog up and it is dark, you cannot see the buttons. the center of the car that should be lighted is completely dark. honda dealer where i bought the car wants to charge $115.00 for a diagnostic test. i read where the warranty for this was extended to 7 years or 100,000 miles. my car should be covered, but the honda dealer says no. *tr

I was driving my normal route and coming up on my right turn. the dashboard lights and all interior lights of my car went black and i was unable to steer my car. within seconds i tried to brake. my pedal went directly to the floor and my brakes never engaged. i had no steering and no brakes going 55mph (forcing me through a red light). i was t-boned by a suv at 60mph (no skid marks for either of us)- a full impact crash. my side of the car was destroyed, my car sent spinning into and taking out a pole, and then my car spun down an embankment. the next thing i remember is being cut out of my car and then nothing past that. i spent the next 5-6 days at 2 different hospitals. i suffered lung/heart/body trauma (especially due to airbag and seatbelt) and a major concussion. wherever the airbag hit and seatbelt lay- i'm a rainbow of colors. i am looking at a lengthy recovery and unable to return to work for a few weeks, unable to take college finals, nor can i return to college next semester due to heart trauma. my husband and i had moments of brake and steering problems sporadically/occasionally in the last few months. each time we took in our car we were told "we can't find any problems". and the notorious: "there are no recalls for your brakes". we have four children and this incident has affected each of us. *tr

Hi, the honda knock sensor harness wire is made with low-grade material, which is getting snapped or cut due to engine heat or attracting vermin as per blogs dirveaccord.net, odyclub.com as being soya based. the part number for accord v6: p/n 30531-rca-a00 h/c 7134133 or odyssey, pilot: p/n 30531-p8f-a00 h/c 5878327. this wire cost is $5-$6 but it takes about $600 to $700 to replace in local dealership with engine malfunction happening with p0325 code which indicates knock sensor malfunction. the sensor failing suddenly with out warning is causing untold hard ships to all the honda owners and its needs to be fixed immediately to avoid severe engine damage and over heating. so i am requesting nhtsa to investigate and request honda to issue an recall of this small 3inch wire and avoid headaches to the common people. i also see lot of people with acura, honda accord, ody have reported with honda of this problem from year 2004 and find below is a copy of the letter from a blog. that it was reported with sept 10,2004 with case no b012004-09-07011 to american honda motor co.,1919 torrance blvd.,torrance, ca 90501 http://acurazine.com/forums/problems-fixes-114/knock-sensor-chewed-mouse-mice-eating-wires-mouse-ate-my-tl-merged-threads-554357/ the url is: http://www.acura-tl.com/forums/showt...2&page=1&pp=25. *tr

2004 honda accord. consumer requests a vehicle recall for faulty radio wiring. *smd the consumer stated a year ago, she began having problems with the radio. it would make a very loud pop and then go off. the audio would disappear, but the radio was still on. at times, there was a popping and hissing sound. the radio issue, occurred on an intermittent basis.

I have noticed that when i try to turn on car there is a lost in connection and car won't turn on i have to turn the steering wheel in order for car to finally turn on. i think there is a problem with the ignition switch. i have done research and seems like other honda owners have had the same problem. i'm just afraid that car will stop in the road while i'm driving. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving 35 mph, the instrument panel failed to function. as a result, all the meters and gauges displayed incorrect readings. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the circuit board needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 141,000.

The display for the climate control and radio light went out making it impossible to see what is happening as far as defrost and heat ext.. this is a safety issue as it is impossible to see what is going on with the climate control system, and out of the windshield. this needs to be a safety recall for this reason. *tr

The radio and gear shift lights do not illuminate at all. cd player ejects cd's immediately upon insertion of disc does not play at all. *tr

Another death could be avoided, this car was recalled in 2014 too late for ea domination of the car, and now after speaking with attorneys again the air bars are involved. our son was so evict rated that there was nothing to do, pronounced dead at the scene . emt's were helpless, he lost his face and his chest. no protection from this vehicle, pleas notify others. I received a recall notice for my 2004 honda accord. i work very long days and have very little time to get this recall completed. the problem is that the closest authorized honda dealer is 70 miles away. this makes getting the work done very difficult. my complaint is that there should be circumstances that honda allows others to fix these issues. now, i may never be able to get this fixed and who knows what may happen to me or my car if that is the case... *tr

I started up my car after being parked for about 2 hours in normal conditions and the lcd display for the radio/clock/ac/heat/vents etc did not light up. i've had it checked and the only solution is an expensive one. one repair place also told me that this has been happening to a lot of honda's lately. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the air bag light warning illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 51,000. updated 08/20/13*lj the consumer stated when he put his seat belt on, the air bag light went out. while the vehicle was running, he un-latched the seat belt, the air bag light illuminated and stayed on, after he put the seat belt on. updated 08/22/13

Car just shut off when i stepped on the brake. had to restart the car and it ran fine until i hit the brakes again. now it shuts off or stalls whenever i use the brakes, turn signals, head lights, and high beam lights. check engine light will flash rapidly and go out sometimes. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. while driving 45 mph, the air bag warning light illuminated when the consumer hit a bump in the road. the vehicle was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 14v700000 (air bags), but the remedy failed. the contact mentioned that the air bag warning light continued to illuminate after the recall repair. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 157,247. also, the battery was replaced and there was an issue with the driver's side seat belt buckle. updated 10/26/15.*jb....updated 11/02/15*bf ...updated 03/19/18*jb... consumer stated faulty cable reel replaced per ahm updated 05/16/18*jb

Low beam headlights wont work, systemic problem with honda motors 2003-2004 product line, many pilots and civics recalled but not accords . must use same parts and engineering. *tr

My 2004 honda accord had an engine fire caused by a defective high pressure power steering hose. the hose sprung a leak, spraying power steering fluid onto the engine, which caught fire. this defect is already the subject of nhtsa recall 12v-222, but inactivity and foot-dragging on honda's part has caused this otherwise avoidable safety incident. *tr

Vehicle air conditioner drain hose improperly installed by factory, causing excessive water build up in a/c reservoir. water drained onto vehicle ecu, causing corrosion. engine started running poorly, followed by failure of ecu to recognize valid keys. vehicle would not start and had to be towed. problem could have easily cause stalling in interstate traffic. internet searches show this to be a common problem due to the design and placement of the ac unit directly over the unprotected ecu. *tr

The lcd radio display went dark. everything works but no dashboard information. this is a well documented problem and honda issued a warranty extension. this should be a recall. *tr

Light for instrument panel display quit working, making it impossible to read climate controls, defrosts, radio etc. this creates a safety hazard when needing to control these functions while driving. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that while traveling 25 mph, the radio lights failed to illuminate. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the fuse in the circuit board needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 103,502 and the current mileage was 103,705.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord ex. the contact stated that the lights on the radio and cd audio had become inoperable. the dealer was not notified of the issue. the manufacturer was also not notified. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 131,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that while driving during the evening, he was unable to see the climate control panel. the climate control panel failed without any previous warning. the vehicle was not taken to dealer or repair shop for inspection or repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure; however no assistance was provided. the failure and current mileages were 170,000.

I had been driving 10 min. (70mph) on the interstate when i went to pass another motorist as soon as i turned on my blinker the car started to shutdown. after several minutes i discovered that when i applied the brakes the car would also make an sudden jerk and begin to shutdown. the car would drive completely normal as long as you did not activate either the blinkers or the brakes. i tried several other electrical accessories and none of them seemed to effect the car. after driving for several hours we exited the interstate and put the car in neutral after engaging the brake for several seconds the car died . when i took my foot off the brake it immediately restarted and the problem stopped. *tr

Climate control display and lighting goes out(also radio display) which makes it impossible to turn on defoggers or other items at night when driving well known defect that should cause a total recall. *tr

The passenger window began rolling up and staying up all on its own, at anytime it wanted. it would return to normal working order after i restarted the car. then one day- it rolled down, and would not work again. i found out i could override with the keys to roll up. but id have to window lock to stay. then one day we smell burning- we traced it to the door- and the override no longer works. now the driver window is beginning to do the same behavior. so far i've replaced driver switch= 325.00 --quote for motor= 400.00--i know it will need the switch too... that is over 1000.00 just to get the window up??? that is absurd! *tr

The display for the radio/ac is very dim. the radio still works but you can't see the display. this is a known problem for this type of vehicle. honda needs to have a recall and fix this on all accords. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2004 honda accord. the contact stated that the lighting on the instrument panel had become inoperable. as a result, the contact was unable to read any of the gauges or meters on the instrument panel. the vehicle was not taken to have the failure diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 97,000.

First, i called approximately two weeks ago and filed a complaint over the telephone. the man i talked to said he would follow up with an email to me, which he never did. he also said i would receive something by mail, which i never did. my name is [xxx] i would like to know what happened to that complaint? in short: my 2004 honda accord's transmission failed at 94k. honda said my vin was not part of the recall. who did honda make a deal with? i had to pay to have the trans rebuilt. now going high speeds for long distances the dash board lights up, the d light blinks, the triangle comes on, the engine light comes on. once the car cools down most lights go off and after 3 cycles, the engine light goes off. auto zone came up with some p code that it was a sensor. the trans guy replaced it., i am still getting dashboard lights and this time i lost the speedometer. someone said the trans is overheating. but then why the p code that it is a sensor electrical problem? if honda is having such a big problem with this why isn't the highway safety commission getting involved? why doesn't everyone write to them and make a complaint? why aren't you getting involved with this issue? honda put a bad product in their cars and the consumers are suffering. in 1970s chevy put a small trans in a mid size car with plastic parts. after 3 transmissions and a trip to court the judge ordered they put a bigger trans in my car. is this the same thing? this is a very serious problem with honda and their transmissions and i would like to know why the consumers are getting the raw deal on this? the honda dealership said they don't know anything about this problem? how can that be when there are so many complaints! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
