Recently reported SERVICE BRAKES problems on 2001 Ford Windstar

Since the beginning of 2011 the abs and the brake light came one. i have no idea why it comes on and stays one. i am afraid to go long distance because of this. *tr

Well my abs/ brake lights have been on and off ever since i bought this van and i have keep up on everything that need keeping up on. now i am having problems with my wipers and they don't work on any of the speeds but high and next to high and the other speeds don't work. another problem i have been having is the electronic slidding doors don't always close or want to stay shut. the doors have even tried to open when driving down the road which is very dangerous considering i have children ridding in the back of my van. i have had codes come up on my van that sound like a manufacturing problem and i have had about enough of this. i have not felt save in my van since they called me in for the recall they fixed on it at dick withems. i still think it needs an inspection by the company and they need to fix everything that is malfunctioning due to manufacturing problems. i put my children's and my life in ford's hands when i drive this van and if anything ever happens to my children or me i will be getting ahold of ford, my lawyer. i think that when vehicle's are built they should make sure there are less manufacturing problems as possible. please contact me. *tr

Abs light & brake lights come on sometimes but not always. brake function well with no issues. *tr

Abs & brake warning lights come on seemingly randomly. braking distance compromised. believe it to be a faulty abs control module - no covered by a ford recall. *tr

From time to time, the abs and brake lights come on, usually as you are just driving, which makes the abs system inoperable. ford has looked at this problem and actually stated they are not sure what the problem is or how to fix it. with that said, the car is not inspectable and makes it difficult. this should be a recall issue! *tr

This is a continuing situation: after driving a short distance and applying the brakes the first time; as the car slows to 5mph, the brakes fail and a grinding/cranking type of noise is heard; after a small distance the brakes re-engage and stop the car; very dangerous; the abs light then comes on and the brakes work normally* without abs controls. this situation happens every time that the car is started until the abs light comes on and apparently disengages the abs system. *tr

My abs and brake light intermittently turns on for no reason. sometimes when i'm stopped at a light, others when i'm braking and others i'm cruising at highway speeds. sometimes it happens every day, sometimes once a month. *tr if it turns on i can normally turn it off by turning the key off and restarting the car. and wile they are on my abs does not function at all.

Abs warning light comes on along with emergency brake light. the lights stay on for varying periods and then go out only to return at irregular intervals. no change in vehicle operation is noticeable. *tr

Intermittent abs and brake warning lights on since 2009 - 6 years without reliable abs braking system due to a poor manufacturing issue and still no recall. please investigate!!

One year ago, both the abs light and the brake light were turned on. sometimes they are on and off frequently. *tr

I have a 2001 ford windstar, i've never had so much trouble with a vehicle. this has been going on and off for over a year. the abs and brake light comes on and stays on most of the time. *tr

Abs and brake light on and cruise control not working leaking master cylinder switch. *js

Abs and brake lights come on and off at different times when driven. my light system stays on all the time. please help me get it recalled. *tr

Abs and brake light have been intermittently been coming on and going off for years. i was told by a mechanic not to worry , just a loose wire somewhere! now i am concerned about the possibility of a fire! i have had all recalls completed according to the local ford dealer. the problem is worse in the summer months. i like my van but am concerned enough to start looking for another car! *tr

These lights stay on even after repairs are done. they go off for a couple days and then come back on. this has been going on for at least 2 years. i also have electrical problem with my speedometer and gauges. i also have been having a problem with my fuel vacuum causing the gas to spill out when pumping and tank is not full. *tr

Abs light has been on for years. took the vehicle to get serviced assuming brakes were needing maintenance due to illuminated abs light on panel and breaks squeaking. reliable mechanic shop informed me that the vehicles brakes were fine and no replacement is needed, but that my abs would not function properly. i was told the abs light was electrical and that it would cost a lot to fix (don't recall the cost). the brakes have failed twice recently with brakes locking and no abs. after researching i see the abs warning light is an issue with this vehicle and numerous complaints have been made. recall should be made before people get hurt!! *js

Abs brakes are activating during normal braking. my abs and brake lights started coming on about 3 years ago. my abs brakes actually activated while i was braking in normal road conditions, no gravel, rain, etc.. my son was driving and i was in the passenger seat. we were coming to a stop at a highway and the car wouldn't stop when he broke. it just kept going. it was very scary. didn't know what it was but just assumed it was a one time deal. the lights continued to come on off and on ever few weeks. about a year later the abs brakes activated again while i was driving through town (30 mpg) and coming to a stop. when i was going around 5 mpg and there was a car stopped in front of me my car would not stop. it kept "pulsating" and moving forward. scared the heck out of me. i almost rear ended the car in front of me. at this point i took it to the local ford dealer. they ran a $100 diagnostic and said it was the abs module that needed to be replaced...$980 later. the clerk told me that this may not fix the problem but that they needed to do this *first. we did not have it replaced since they could not guarantee this would fix the problem. the lights continued to come on but at closer intervals. last week, august, 2012 it happened for the 3rd time; the abs light did not come on during this episode. i was coming to a stop at a highway entrance.... my car would not stop again! it kept pulsating and pulling forward towards the oncoming traffic. very scary!! the brake and abs lights are now coming on 2-5 times were driving trip. *tr

The abs and hand brake kept coming on intermittently. the braking distance has increased. and now the lights are on almost permanently. based on reports, am afraid if this is going to result in a fire eventually. *tr

Abs light is on continuously abs is not active. this problem seems to be a problem with the ecu master relay. *tr

Intermittent illumination of abs warning lamp and red brake system warning lamp during driving - no underlying brake system malfunction; also, abs and brake system warning lamps occasionally remain on after start-up warning system check cycle . *tr

Yellow abs light comes on and off, red brake light does the same, i was unaware that ford had a recall for this problem, i am just finding out about this today. no one contacted me about the abs module, i had been contacted about other recall issues and they were repaired. *tr

The dashboard brake light and abs light illuminate sporadically for extended periods of time. *tr

Brake and abs warning lights are on. abs inoperative due to abs ebcm computer failure. was quoted $1,000 from dealer to replace computer. *tr

Brake warning light combined with abs light, abs does not function. problem was intermittent at first, now chronic. diagnostic code c1185. *tr

The abs and brake indicator lights randomly come on, stay on for different lengths of time, then shut off again for a while. there is no telling what causes this to happen. this issue was present when the vehicle was purchased. the previous owners had it checked out numerous times, could never find the cause. i have had them checked, same results.

Abs system is inoperable, abs light and brake light comes on at different intervals of time when i am driving. it often happens when i hit a bump or after the car has been running for a period of time. it comes on more frequently in hot weather. *tr

Abs light is on most of the time. sometimes it will go off and then it is continually on. *tr

We have had our brakes serviced back in 2008, and once before that in 2003 (almost a year after we purchased the car). in the past couple years, the abs light and the parking brake light have constantly been turning on after five minutes of driving. the brakes still work, but i am unaware of why the lights continue to come on. when we had our brakes serviced in 2008, the lights have already been coming on, and replacing the brakes did not help. brakes have been an issue for our windstar since we bought the car. *tr

Abs and brake lights started coming on randomly. never when vehicle was first started but only after van warmed up/was operating for a while. as vehicle aged lights came on sooner and lasted longer. checked codes which was always a long list which included c1185. sensors were all cleaned and inspected/tested. brakes system was inspected and checked out and safe sans the abs function. many reports of the ecm main board soldering failure after running for a while and heating up. *tr

Abs light and brake light on/ off more then 5 years every time driving , brake working fine. all the gauge moving crazy about 1 a week. winter time the problem less. *tr

The brake and abs lights came on and stayed on. since then they are off at times, but mostly on. usually when the car starts up the warning lights are off, but come on after the car warms up. *tr

My abs light/brake light is on - started 2007- was told it would cost 1200.00 dollars to fix it; that it was ok to use the car in this condition. 8/14/14- replaced the wheels bearings on the front right and left wheels-after the bearings / and sway bars were replace still hear a grinding noise front the right front of vehicle. noise becomes more pronounced the longer you drive the vehicle . also the abs/brake light is still on when you drive the car. *tr

Abs and brake light turns on usually when its wet outside or going over a big bump, mostly in the summer but lately in winter too. sometimes when coming to a stop it also turns on. turns off after engine restart but usually is back on again soon after. *tr

Abs and brake failure warning lights constantly displayed in dashboard display. brake inspections cannot determine a cause. i just learned that many other windstar owners have reported the same problem, and that a recall for repair may be (or have been) issued. *tr

Abs and brake lights have been going on and off intermittently for several years, brakes are fine according to mechanic. ford ran a diagnostic 7/10/2013 and recommended replacing the abs module at a cost of $1061. if the brakes are fine why should i have to pay for a replacement of a module that is widely known to be defective and sadly causing my van to not pass state inspection. i cannot afford to replace this and now i have no way to continue going to work. thank you ford, you put a defective part in my vehicle and force me to have to replace it at my expense so i can get through inspection. i will never buy another ford again nor will i fix this at my expense. there needs to be a forced recall on this common defective issue. *tr

Abs, traction control, and brake lights came on. when the lights are on, abs and traction control are disabled. lights came on more frequently in summer months than in winter months. i've heard these problems may be a fire hazard. *tr

The abs light and the brake light come on most of the time and i'm sure this means my braking system is not functioning properly. it hs been occurring with this vehicle for many years and hundreds of dollars later it is still not resolved. ford needs to step-up and fix this issue. a.s.a.p. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Abs and brake light comes on when the temp is hot outside, turn engine off, and back on goes out for a while, then comes back on. it seems to be a big problem but ford says it is not a recall. or i cannot find a recall. *tr

Problems encountered: rear windows not working, had motors replaced worked for about 6 months then intermittent then quit working within 6 months. abs and brake light on dash goes on and off. a/c stops blowing for about 20 seconds then resumes blowing. keyless entry works sometimes, sometimes it don't. speedometer slower than it reads and mileage may not be correct. windshield wipers not working properly. intermittent settings on wipers quit working and when you turn off wipers they stop in middle of windshield. i have an 88 year old father with no legs and this is the vehicle i have to drive him around in. do not feel safe!! *tr

The abs and the red brake light came on the instrument panel. had the computer or something reset a couple of times but the lights keep coming on. been doing this for a number of years. *tr

Interior lights flash on and off including dash lights taken in on numerous occasions but problem still exists to this day. abs and brake lights come on constantly up to and including today. noise that sounds like bones crunching from steering wheel or under foot? and buzzing from right front tire on left turns. took into ford dealer for all complaints, never fixed. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2001 ford windstar. the contact stated that the air bag, traction control and brake warning lights continued to intermittently illuminate. the contact noticed that a fuse blew and the vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic. an unknown local dealer was notified, indicated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the manufacturer confirmed that there were no recalls and offered no further assistance. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was not available.
