My abs lights came on as well as my brake lights don't know why my brakes are knew. *tr
Coming to stop sign put on brakes the brake light and the abs light comes on, when leaving the stop sign the brakes drags and won't release. *tr
Abs and brake lights always on
Tl* the contact owns a 2001 ford windstar. the contact stated that the brake light continued to illuminate after the emergency brake was disengaged. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis however, the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the contact stated there was a manufacturer's recall for the failure. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 128,000.
The check traction control light comes on. brake light, abs light and traction off light start blinking, turn off the ignition for a few minutes and all is well for a few seconds or maby a few days, (this doesn't happen all the time. i think the problem is somehow related to temperature because as soon as it gets cold, (below about 30 degrees) the problem goes away til warmer weather and when it gets vrey warm it happens all the time. i suspect this problem may be related to a defect in the ecm as this might explain the temp situation. note also fortunately during the winter the traction control works fine but when this light problem is around the traction control does not work. *js
The abs, brake, and trac lights come on while driving down the road. this doesn't happen every time, but has become more frequent. have not found a reason for it to come on, like hitting bumps or wet whether. the electrical system issues is rear windows won't open all of the time. the door locks don't work all of the time. the lights in and outside the van dim in and out. *tr
Abs light comes on and appears one side tries to engage abs. mechanic says many codes are displayed. *tr
Red brake light and yellow abs light on at same time. at first intermittent then more likely on than off in june of 2014 i found leaking brake fluid from switch on bottom of master cylinder and found brake fluid leaking to numerous electronic components causing o/d light to come on intermittently speedometer would stop working odometer shows - - - - - in place of mileage. learned of recall via internet and took vehicle to ron carter ford 3005 fm 528 alvin tx 77512 on 07/17/2014. they explained that in spite of all damage caused the only thing they would do was replace leaking switch with new one as mandated by the recall. they replaced this switch and returned vehicle with all of the same problems including brake fluid inside the transmission range selector switch and vehicle speed sensor directly underneath master cylinder. i cannot tell if the vehicle still presents a fire hazard or not as there is still brake fluid everywhere. ron carter refuses to look at vehicle or provide any further repairs even though this is clearly all related to the recall. *tr
On 8-7-13 i was driving back home an 2 lights prior to my street the brakes started clicking when pressed and after a few blocks they started working fine. today the same happened when driving downhill from where i live. i took it to have it checked because of the abs light and i was given dtc c1185. they said that the abs modulator needs to be replaced and they gave me an estimate of $950. i was looking for the part and found that i am not alone in this issue. therefore i am posting it. *tr
Abs and brake lights light intermittently in warm weather. obd ii code- c1185. dealer says it likely needs ecu and hcu replaced. this is apparently a common problem. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=windstar+c1185
Intermittent abs brake light. light comes on and goes off at will. *tr
The abs light, traction control, and emergency brake lights have been coming on and off for about three years. took it to the mechanic multitude of times and no problem found. finally brakes failed and almost caused an accident. master cylinder was replaced and lights still come on. brakes seemed to be working fine but am terribly concerned about this and worried it might happen again. car vibrates a little when brake is pressed when the lights are on. this is a safety issue that ford should addressed. *tr
Ecu module for abs is shorted out and causes gauge cluster to short out. this causes abs light & brake light to turn on and all gauges stop working and they jump around . this was diagnosed by ford dealership in wi. said brake fluid leaks in to ecu and shorts out wires . told me . $2000.00 to fix . these problems are a safety issue . abs and speedometer and gauges don't work . should be a recall . *tr
While sitting at the red light my brake light, abs light, over drive lights all came on and then my speedometer would not register when i started to go when the light turned green. *tr
Abs brake lights come on when there is no problem. this has happened several times over the years i have owned this vehicle. *tr
Abs light on and brake light on, nothing is wrong with the brakes they work fine. apparently this is a known issue that ford hasn't issues a recall on it. ecu master relay has a bad soldier joint which fails prematurely and causes the abs light and dtc c1185. it also causes the enhanced abs braking system to become inoperable. *tr
My abs warning light came on and the brake warning light was coming on and off. i took it to be repaired and a code showed up for an abs sensor on the front left tire. it was replaced. the lights are still coming on and going off and back on etc...i took the van back and a new code appeared-c1185. this code does not show up in the list of codes for my vehicle on my mechanics computer. my mechanic believes it is an abs relay malfunction. i called a ford dealer who said his computer was not working properly and to call back another time. there have been many recalls on this model van and i have had many problems with it for many years. when it comes to brakes, it is a safety issue. *tr
My windstar since they day i bought it used has had the abs trac off and brake lights come on at the same time when first taking off after starting the engine and stay on until the next drive then they do it again i've heard of a lot of people having this same issue i think its time for a recall!! *tr
Abs lights on dash comes on especially when its hot out. brakes lock up when trying to stop fast. was told its a defective abs control module. ford issued a revised or updated module. its too expensive to replace right now. *tr
The abs warning light comes on intermittently. from research on the web, this is a common problem starting with windstars dating from 1999. *tr
Traction control engages when turning. acceleration is limited while traction control is engaged. anti-lock brakes engage when stopping causing extra stopping distance. dry pavement. *js
I am in the process of trying to figure out what is going on. while driving on the interstate (with cruise control on) i noticed the od light started flashing and the check engine light came on. i pulled over and the brakes were smoking to the point i was afraid there would be a fire. i had to sit on the side of the road with my toddlers and wait for it to stop smoking. i was still about 20 miles from home. i am not someone who is fortunate enough to have family nearby or friends who could help. we are on a tight budget with a child who has special needs and only one working parent so could not afford a tow. the 'check engine' light stayed on but the od was off upon starting the vehicle. the od came on 2x in the 20 miles it took to arrive. each time it came on i pulled over, turned the van off and back on. when the od was flashing when i let off the accelerator, even on an incline, it was slowing me down so i figured the brakes were engaged. with the cruise control on i was unable to tell so i was pushing it up to 70mph with the brakes going against it. on the way home i did not use cruise control but it kept happening only it was very noticeable that the brakes were rubbing. there is now brake dust all over my tires and the side of the van. this could have caused an accident, this could have caused a fire! my daughter is disabled and in a complex child restraint system with straps and positioners. i also have a 1 yr old and if something had happened i am not confident i could have gotten them both out in time had a fire started. i need this van to carry my daughters wheel chair around. i am extremely irate. we bought this vehicle 3 months ago (second hand)!!!! something needs to be done about this issue since i have read online that it is actually common!!! they are saying the code is p1744 torque converter clutch system stuck in off position. $3000 to fix!!! *tr
On several different occasions i will be driving my van and the abs and brake light come on. finally today we were able to get a code and it is 1185. we were not able to get a code up until today because when you turn the vehicle off it resets the lights on the dash. my mechanic is looking up the code to see what it is. this is scary since it has something to do with the abs or master cylinder. *tr
While driving down the road abs light and brake light came on at the same time. this has happened from time to time and seems to go away and then come back after turning the vehicle on and off. *tr
Brake pressure switch leaking brake fluid onto wiring harness causing cruise control and abs brake issues. potential fire hazard. *tr
Abs light turning on and still keep on from since. one year before, the light is turning on in summer time and is turning off (at depend on the day or irregularities on the road). the problem ceases during fall and winter. i was informed that exist a ford recall for that, but i will never received a letter from ford. because a lot of people have experimented problem with abs light with ford windstar 2001, i assume it is important to sign a complain for that. *tr
Abs light and brake light keeps coming on. *tr
Abs and brake lights have been off and on for years. have had the brakes looked at many times and they are always said to be fine. today, while driving along, the radio went off when i rolled up the window...thought that was strange so opened window....radio back on, closed window....radio off. thankfully i was very close to home as the windows stopped opening and closing, radio shut off, odometer reading disappeared, clock lights disappeared. i made it to the driveway, turned it off and it did not turn back on. came inside and started to search "2001 ford windstar abs and brake lights on"......i'm appalled at how many complaints i have found. husband and friend did a check and it may be the alternator....but after what i've read we will definitely be checking for fluid in the abs control module. if it turns out it is the abs control module (after reading the numerous complaints) i will be calling ford to let them know what i think. for many, many years we let ford service our van and i swear after each service we ended up with another problem within weeks of the service. i've not had trust in our local ford dealership for a long time. based on what i've read in the last 2 to 3 hours i am completely shocked and saddened that ford hasn't stepped up and offered to rectify this problem. i love my windstar! as long as we can be certain that it is still safe to drive we will keep it on the road. but when it is time.....we will never do business with ford again. *tr
Just driving the van and it shows check traction control and my abs and brake lights come on and traction control off. it keeps recurring and do not know what to do to fix it. if i pull over on the side road and shut off the key and wait a minute and start it back up the lights and all go away for a bit. if i drive it with lights on and the check traction control on it smells like something is burning. so i have to pull over and shut it off all the time until the lights are gone. *tr
Recently acquired by the car dealer 2001 ford windstar, i took it to a machine shop to check on the conditions that he was once replaced the bulbs burn front information panel of the driver's cab stayed lit informative signals "abs" "braker" identifying a problem in the brake system i want to know how i can make a complaint to the company for this defect based on information you read right through the internet. *tr
Abs warning light comes on intermittently
Tl* the contact owns a 2001 ford windstar. the contact stated that there was an unknown fluid leaking from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the abs module and brake booster were defective which caused a brake fluid leak. the dealer replaced the abs module. the failure mileage was 93,850.
Intermittent increase in braking distance in an emergency situation. due to abs system failure related to the ecm control unit. indicator at time of failure "yellow abs brake light" and "red brake light" on dashboard of vehicle. resulting in interment operating of abs system. this becomes a large driving hazard when operating the vehicle during winter months when roadway is often covered in wet, snow and ice. these road conditions are typical for my winter driving months in the climate and area of vehicle purchased and operated. the cause of this abs system failure is related to the ecm control unit. root cause is identified as failure of circuit board solder joints with in the ecm unit, deactivating abs system. poor quality of connections, heat and stress , not robust enough for application. need to have these quality and performance issue resolved by the oem. *tr
Abs and brake warning lights light intermittently while driving. this indicates a very serious problem of failure of the ecm module that controls the anti-lock braking system a quick fix is to pull off the road, turn off the engine, and then restart it. this appears to be a very common problem with many ford windstars. *tr
After repairing my speed controller my abs and brake lights have been coming on the dashboard intermittently and are coming on more and more. took it to the dealer and no codes show up,but i do not trust it . *tr
My abs light and brake light came on. i pulled over. waited for the car to cool down. light didn't good away. i have already gotten the recall for cruise control done. i tested and the abs system is definitely not working. luckily, i grew up without abs, and know to pump the brakes. i am getting the c1185 dtc. *tr
My abs light and brake light and tractoin controll lights are all on at all times nowand my speed domitor has slowly gone out on my 2001 windstar sel the date below is an aprox
The brake system warning light and anti-lock brake system (abs) dash light turn on and off intermittently and will remain on until the van is turned off. upon starting the van the lights will be off. i have had the van brakes inspected and serviced to include a complete inspection of the brake system with the removal of the master cylinder and system flush. technicians cannot find a reason why there is an intermittent brake system and abs warning lights turning on and off. *tt
Abs and brake lights are constantly coming on. took to the garage and they tell me it's the abs module and cost is nearly $1000 to repair. i looked it up on the internet and this appears to be a very common problem with this year model which tells me that there is a problem with that part. i can't afford that right now. the garage told me the van will run with no problems, only when those lights come on, the abs system will be disabled. i believe this should be considered a recall item because this is a problem with that particular part. there has to be a manufacturing problem with it for it to be so common. *tr
Stopping at red lights or stop signs cause abs to make noise and keep you from coming to a stop with out pumping brakes have tried new brakes and bleeding of brakes and new all around calipers and other brake parts and still having the same effect. *tr
Abs ecm failure - abs brake light on (intermittently) as well as the brake light (intermittently) and check engine light (permanently). *tr
As mentioned on the http://www.fordwindstarrecall.info/ website, we seem to have this problem: 6/25/12 - another recall effort is in the works. the (mostly unservicable) ecu master relay has a bad soldier joint which fails prematurely and causes the abs light and dtc c1185. it also causes the enhanced abs braking system to become inoperable. if your abs light is on. report the problem at nhtsa - safercar.gov. use the category brakes, the more reports the better a chance of continued action. *tr
My abs and brake lights continually come on and off and seems like a faulty issue with the electronics, but it renders the abs entirely useless when on. i have asked around if there was an official recall as this seems to be a common issue and was directed to report this on this site. i recently had the codes scanned specifically and there were so many triggered it was ridiculous. i was told that it's a faulty issue with this make and model and a repair would cost in the thousands. it sure seems like ford would have a recall on this faulty safety issue. sometimes the light is on when i start the van, sometimes it comes on after a drive for a little, but once it's on it stays on until the van is stopped and shut off. i've read that it could deal with the heat and/or corrosion issue of expanding aluminum plate. based on the inconsistency of the light it would appear that at times the computer and abs is working when in cooler situations. it's been happening for a while now but is something i've been told that doesn't impact main braking so it's hard to justify the cost of fixing an electronic piece... is there a recall for this that i was not notified about being the second owner? i picked a random date for the 'when did this happen' as i'm unsure how long it's been occurring but was an issue with my dad before we purchased from him.
Abs and brake light constantly staying illuminated. *tr
Abs service brakes lights come on. has been happening since 2006 90% of the time in the summer in moderate to high outside temperatures. *tr
I took my vehicle for a recall for the rear axle a year ago and they sprayed some sealer on it and said it was good to go. so now the axle is cracked, and ready to snap. what should i do? also there is a recall on the brake pressure deactivation switch on my vehicle which is leaking brake fluid on the wiring harness. i shouldn't be driving it, but i need to get to boston. again what can i do about this? *tr
Cannot get the abs warning brake light to stay reset and/or fix. stays on and cannot diagnose. *tr
Abs brake light and brake lights turn on,usually on warm days, some times not for days, some times on all the time. the ford dealer assures me the brakes are working, but the abs module is not functioning. all the sensors seem to work, but the system itself does not work. i have replaced the master cylinder brake switch, still having the unit failure. brake lights are working, some times they lock on also, when car is switched off. there are no signs of leakage around the master cylinder. the abs module is quite expensive, and is defective, however ford says it is not their fault. *tr
Three days this week our van brake and abs lights came on in the morning and did not go off on my wife's drive to work. two evenings the lights came on while running at normal speeds(55). the brakes seemed to operate properly but i don't know if my abs will function in a emergency. we bought this van new in 2001. *tr
The abs and brake lights appear then disappear on dash. unsure on the state of abs and brakes. *tr
