We have classified the 779 complaints from 2010 Ford Fusion about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
I was driving on the highway and the car loss power to accelerate. i pulled the car to the side of the highway and turned the vehicle off and restarted the vehicle. i returned back on the highway and the car once again loss power and was stuttering and would not accelerate the engine. i pulled the car off the highway again and turned the car off and restarted the car once again but this time the check engine light stayed on. i took the car to the dealership and they replaced the throttle body . *tr
My wife was merging into traffic on a main highway, while accelerating the car entered "limp home mode" and she was unable to accelerate. she managed to pull off onto the shoulder and restart the vehicle which reset the problem. this was a couple of weeks ago, today during normal driving the problem recurred and she was left waiting on the side of the road, we were again able to reset the problem and get the car home. the drive was less than 10 miles and the problem recurred once. since then while trying to diagnose the problem i have driven the car less than 20 miles and the problem has recurred numerous times. this car dose not have bad weather floor mats. *tr
My 2010 ford fusion *just* turned 30k miles;the basic warranty ended 7/31/13. on 10/13 driving 60 mph on i-95 in the middle lane in heavy traffic the car suddenly stalled-no engine power/response when i pressed on the accelerator. a wrench light was lit on my dash. with no engine power to quickly pull over, i was afraid of being hit & barely coasted over 3 lanes to the breakdown lane. i came to a complete stop & it started bucking.i realized the car had not stalled--it had lost engine power. i put it in park, turned the ignition off & on to start the car. it started fine, idled fine, no wrench light lit; i eased my way back into traffic. almost immediately the same thing happened: the car seemed to stall-lost all ability to accelerate.the wrench light was lit; this time the engine light was lit.fortunately, i was in the right-hand lane & could coast into the breakdown lane; the car started bucking again. i again put the car in park, turned the ignition completely off & on again to start the car. again, the car seemed to run fine, the wrench light went out, & the engine light stayed lit. i gingerly reentered traffic & drove home slowly in the right-hand lane.my mechanic retrieved a service code of p2111 which is the throttle body assembly. i researched-this is known problem, there have been many complaints, there is a tsb, & there has been communication between nhtsa & ford motor company. i called my dealer, explained, gave them the code, told them what i found & that it should fall under the emissions defect warranty (it is technically an emissions defect), it is a known issue and since my car was barely out of the bumper-to-bumper warranty & only has 30,000 miles on it, it was a goodwill matter.fearful of breaking down again i had the car towed ~30 miles to the dealer.they said it was the throttle body assembly & it was not covered by warranty. the repair cost would be $420.58!! *tr
I was on my way to my grandsons wedding when all of a sudden the cars power went off, fortunately was able to get off road but had i not been could have easily been in accident, turned off engine and was able to get the next few miles and then back home. however on my way to work monday the 14th of october 2013 the car did the same thing three times and i maneuvered to side and called mike fitzpatrick ford newnan georgia and they came and got me.only to be told it was throttle body which would cost me over 400.00. the car has a little over 26,000 miles,i mean really????? meanwhile my daughter had already went on line and knew it was the throttle body and that several others had complained with the same thing in the 2010 fusion. so come on and insist on recall before a major accident. could be one of your family members. i will not let this go. *tr
I was sitting at a red light with my 21 month old son in the back seat. when the light turned green i pressed on the accelerator and proceeded into the intersection. the car "stalled" and stopped moving. it did not die but i could not accelerate and we were left sitting in the middle of the intersection with no movement. the car continued to idle and you could feel it trying to go but it wouldn't and i was left trying to coast out of the middle of a busy highway. i eventually managed to coast to through the intersection where i pulled off onto the shoulder of the road. when i would step on the gas the car would slightly "lurch" like it was trying to go but it wasn't getting any gas and the rpms would not climb (so not the transmission). instead the needle on the rpm would bounce slightly up and down as the car tried to move forward. once i put the car in park, turned it off and restarted it, the car proceeded to operate fine but continued to hesitate when trying to accelerate from a stopped position. *tr
Traveling at approximately 25 mph, the engine appeared to be quitting. i punched the accelerator a number of times, however, the car didn't respond and the engine simply quit. when attempting to restart the car (after having had to flag cars to go around me to avoid a rear-end collision), it initially would not re-start. i waited a few minutes and the car started. so far it has run fine, but having this same issue with throttle body on a previous vehicle (toyota camry), i know that this is what the problem is and that it is only a matter of time before the engine will quit again while in motion or idling. i am now afraid to take the vehicle onto the highway for fear of a serious accident. seeing numerous posting on this issue of the ford fusions throttle body, it is apparent that the company needs to issue a recall. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, the vehicle independently decelerated to 30 mph with the illumination of the wrench warning icon. the contact shut off and restart the engine, as the vehicle resumed normally. the failure was also experienced later while driving 30 mph. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure and current mileage was 35,000.
On my way home from work while going 65 mph on i-65 while in the far left lane, car decelerated to 30mph and began shaking. had to pull over and avoid being hit by 4 semis and 5 cars, thankfully managed to get in median, just in time. car had to be restarted which it did fine, but later happened again. called dealership and they said to bring it in that it is a known failure with a diagnosis of throttle body failure!! please do something about this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *tr
Drive down the road and car starts to jerk then dies. i wait a minute or so the start up again and go a mile or so and it does it again, this happen all the way to the ford dealership. they are telling it the throttle body and it happening to a lot of the ford fusion. *tr
While driving vehicle the speed became to rapidly decrease while the check engine light came on and the car begin shake and sputter. tried driving again and realized that i was fine as long as i did not go over 40mph. had to have me car towed home because of the distance between my job and home. called around, had the code read on the car and it was a "p2112" error code which pointed to the throttle body failure. contacted ford and was told that although this is a known issue, i would have to pay for my own part-labor. paying $445 on tomorrow to have the car repaired. i just purchased the car in january 2013, and me paying for repairs on tomorrow means that i cannot pay my car note. this is horrible since the representative at ford customer assistance stated that this is a known issue. i've seen multiple posts online regarding the same thing. this is also a safety hazard, had i been going faster on the interstate (i had not made it on yet when the issue first started) myself or someone else could've been seriously injured or killed because of the sudden stop. *tr
My wife was leaving a location in simpsonville sc and was driving on a two lane road when she felt a vibration in the accelerator pedal and realized the engine had lost power. she started looking for a pull off since a large truck was behind her and did find one across the road. she sat on the side of the road for about 3 - 4 minutes and restarted the car and drove home. this is first time this had happened and she was lucky she was not on the interstate at a high speed. *tr
Spontaneous throttle body failure multiple times over the course of one week. on the highway, in a parking lot and driving down a normal street. car stalled and lurched forward repeatedly. had to quickly pull over while coasting with no ability to accelerate, then turn the car off, then turn it back on to continue driving. very dangerous. ford dealership replaced throttle body today at cost of $100 out of my pocket. i drive a 2010 ford fusion. *tr
I was approximately 2 miles from my starting point traveling at a speed of 55 mph. suddenly, the 2010 ford fusion lurched while shifting into overdrive. when it lurched all ability to accelerate was lost. with cars on each side, i had no ability to accelerate; i lost speed quickly and worked my way to the side of the road (very dangerous situation). i immediately noticed the 'wrench symbol warning light on the dashboard, but did not know what that warning signified. during the loss of acceleration, the car did not lose power steering and it remained running, but the engine was sputtering and not idling at a steady pace. when i got to the side of the road, i put the car in park and tried to 'rev' up the engine, but i had absolutely no control of the throttle. the wrench light was still on. i then turned off the ignition and waited about 1 minute then restarted. the car again had no acceleration ability and sputtered which sounded very much like a cough. i turned the car off again and called for assistance. approximately 5 minutes later, when assistance arrived, i started the car again. at this time, the wrench warning light was off and the car appeared to idle normally. upon research, i found that the wrench symbol means: throttle control/transmission problem. the driver of the car should contact the authorized dealer for service as soon as possible. *tr
While merging onto the interstate, the car's acceleration stopped and the car would not accelerate, found out the throttle body was failing. *tr
Upon attempted acceleration from 43 mph the car made a loud "popping" noise. the car immediately slowed and the accelerator became unresponsive. the car also began shaking and jerking. the longer the car remained on the more violent the shaking became. the second incident occurred during acceleration onto a highway. car again slowed and would not respond to pressing the gas pedal and started shaking and jerking again. both times i nearly avoided driving into oncoming traffic of 55+ mph. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the wrench warning indicator. the vehicle was coasted to the side of the road and restarted, where it resumed normal operation until the failure recurred six times. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where a diagnostic was performed and detected a faulty throttle body. the manufacturer was notified and they informed the contact that a voluntary recall was issued, however the contact's vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle would not accelerate. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. the technician stated that the throttle body and motor assembly would need to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 56,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle did not respond. the engine was then turned off and upon restarting, the vehicle resumed normally. the failure was recurring. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis where the contact was informed that the throttle body would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 53,000.
I was making a right hand turn on a red light. i came to a complete stop. checked both ways & proceeded to make my turn (when making a turn on red, you need to be able to accelerate in order to effectively make the turn, obviously). my car lost all throttle power and response to the engine. my mph dropped drastically low and car started to violently shutter back and fourth. i was left like a sitting duck in the middle of the lane. two cars swerved out of their way, almost hitting me in the process (as this was a 4 lane road/highway). i had children in the car at the time also. i restarted the vehicle, wrench icon cleared and car drove as normal. however, 3.5 miles later car does the same exact thing. the throttle body is defective on this vehicle. i have called ford and explained it is a safety hazard and they refuse to do anything about it. my 3yr warranty has expired which voids my warranty out even though i have not even hit 36,000 miles on the vehicle yet! no recalls are being issued. no help/assistance is being given to customers with this similar issue. ford estimated me at around $450-500 for replacement! please somebody help. i am extremely hard-working and thought i bought a reliable vehicle (at least for a while)...did not expect to have a $500 repair before 36k miles even hits! it is 100% a safety hazard, no matter even if ford claims it is not ... "the car is supposed to be able to idle still and be able to move off the road safely in the event this occurs" ..... quite difficult to believe when the car is shaking back and forth violently. please help. *tr
Traveling north bound on interstate 77. heavy (5pm) traffic. i was in the rightmost lane. without warning throttle response died. the accelerator pedal had no effect on the rpm. engine went to a rough idle speed (varying between 800 and 1500 rpm). i was forced to coast the vehicle to the right highway margin. stopped the car. turned off ignition. waited 60 seconds to compose myself. car then started and ran flawlessly. i then drove straight to the ford dealer where i bought this car / brand new in 2010. (approximately 5 miles away from where it died). a cursory internet search reveals that ford has replaced over 27,000 fusion throttle bodies on 2010's, under warranty. my car is 6 months out of warranty, so dealer said tough luck. i had to pay $438.80 for repair. "regulators and ford have logged more than 1,000 complaints. consumer advocates in north carolina convinced the national highway traffic safety administration to begin an investigation, but in six months, the case hasn't moved past the preliminary stage." please tell me that ford will be compelled to fix this known issue. i read online that ford does not consider this to be a safety issue. that is absurd. i feel very lucky that i did not cause a major traffic accident. it?s only a matter of time till someone dies! *tr
While going down the road the yellow wrench light came on and car lost all acceleration. car began to lurch along the road and i was able to get to safety on the side of the road. this has happened three more times and car is now back at the dealership. this is a huge safety issue and this appears to be a common problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, there was a sudden loss of acceleration power as the check engine light and the wrench warning icon illuminated. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body assembly needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 53,000.
I was at a stop light. the light turned green and i began to accelerate to about 10 mph when the car suddenly began running rough and i could not increase speed. it slowed down to about 3 mph and the wrench light came on and no matter how far i pushed the pedal it would not move past 700 rpm. the car behind me which had seen me start to go assumed i was going to keep accelerating and had to brake hard to avoid running into the back of me. i sat in the left lane until the right cleared so i could literally roll it onto the shoulder to avoid getting rear ended by traffic. i shut the car off and re-started it. it seemed to work fine after that. the next day, it did it again to my wife. she was starting to accelerate, the wrench light came on and no power, gas pedal was inoperative and it was running rough. this repeated itself several times more that day. did it again and it seemed it was increasing in frequency. took the car to the dealership and they said the throttle body failed and that it is a common occurrence. it had an error code of p2111. this part should not fail so easily and it nearly caused my car to get rear ended. i did a little research while at the dealership because i felt that this part failing so early and with so little mileage (which most is easy highway) was odd. i come to find out that this is not an isolated incident and it seems more and more are failing. ford even acknowledged they had made some defective ones. this part should be recalled. *tr
I filed an original complaint regarding sudden failure of my vehicle to move or produce any power back on 10-05-2013 under nhtsa id number 10546865. at that time i described the following: summary: i was at a stop light. the light turned green and i began to accelerate to about 10 mph when the car suddenly began running rough and i could not increase speed. it slowed down to about 3 mph and the wrench light came on and no matter how far i pushed the pedal it would not move past 700 rpm. this repeated itself several times more that day. did it again and it seemed it was increasing in frequency. took the car to the dealership and they said the throttle body failed and that it is a common occurrence. it had an error code of p2111. filed original complaint because i was informed that there was a large number of these failing prematurely and to document my vehicle. i paid the repair in october 2013 for exactly same symptoms p2111 and same conditions as all of the other vehicles in this investigation were experiencing. i kept track of nhtsa's investigation came to find out that ford had issued a "customer service campaign" earlier this year that extended the warranty on the throttle body to 10 years/150k miles and a letter would be sent out. i never received one. contacted my dealership who said they did not see anything under my vin but would send the request to ford. ford says that nhtsa determines which vehicles fall under the issue. so just contacted nhtsa via telephone speaking to [xxx] who said that since i already filed a complaint with nhtsa that she could not help me but said for me to go online and update my complaint so that the nhtsa engineers would investigate further. in warranty database i found many 2010 ford fusions produced before and after mine (**/**) with the same problem. i would like a call from a nhtsa engineer please. thank you. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Going down highway at about 50 mph when the car just seemed as if it was not getting any gas. the gas pedal would not work. second time pulling out after stopping at stop sign and when pulled out in the middle of the road it stalled out again, tried pushing gas peddle to make it go and felt as if the gas peddle was not working at all. *tr
I was driving approximately 70 mph in the left lane on i-40 when i heard a noise and then realized that i had absolutely no throttle response. i also noticed that the orange wrench light illuminated on the dashboard. this was especially frightening and dangerous given the fact that i was driving during a time of high-volume traffic, and there were cars behind me also going 70 mph. thankfully, i was able to pull over to the shoulder without endangering myself or other drivers. upon reaching the shoulder, i realized that the car was bucking and surging, and i turned off the engine. a few minutes later, i attempted to restart the car and continue driving, but upon accelerating towards highway speeds, the same problem occurred, and i moved back onto the shoulder. i had my vehicle towed to the dealership, and after inspecting the vehicle my service representative informed me that the throttle body needed to be replaced. they also informed me that there have been so many issues with this particular part, that it is on back order with ford on a national scale. quite frankly, i'm appalled that ford has yet to issue a recall on this part, and i'm afraid it will only occur after someone is seriously injured as a result of their defective throttle body. i find this extremely disheartening, and i would like an explanation from ford as to why they have not issued a recall. *tr
The rpms on the car surged and then that car shut off, and would only stay running for 15 seconds afterward. the autoshop is have to replace the throttle body. *tr
Driving at a constant speed of 45mph when my car idles out, lose control of gas pedal function (acceleration) while making a right turn on a red light. (oncoming traffic coming from the left driver-side. wrench icon comes on my instrument panel. care begins to stutter and shake,i still can not use my gas pedal. i turn the car off and back on in the middle of the road (things reset and are fine). there is a defective throttle body part that numerous other ford fusions are having, yet no recall has been made? my car has very low miles for it's year and should not be experiencing this issue. i could have been seriously injured. *tr
i purchased my ford fusion at a dealership three days ago. yesterday i was driving my car home from work and suddenly i lost the ability to accelerate, and an orange wrench popped up on my dashboard. my car started to sputter so i had to coast to the side of the road and shut down. when i went to start it back up at sputtered but started again. this happened one more time on my trip home. both times i was nearly rear-ended. upon researching this issue i've noticed that this is a recurring problem. what i have not come to understand is why you have not recall whatever part is causing this. to say i'm disappointed is an understatement. this is extremely dangerous and i really hope that it doesn't take somebody getting killed for this part to be recalled. *tr
last year i had bought one (2010 sel) <vin:[xxx]> that suddenly started losing power on the highway. a very dangerous situation. the car was out of warranty so i had to pay $500 in repairs to replace a throttle body. upon doing research this is a known and very dangerous issue for the ford fusion and they have done nothing to correct it. fast forward to 2013, i purchased my second ford fusion <vin: [xxx]> about 1.5 months ago. last week the same issue started yet again, this car had much less miles, a much more upgraded version, and was bought in an entirely different state yet the same dangerous issue occurred. i had to once again pay to have this known defective part replaced. i believe that this is a known ford issue and it is very dangerous, and as i consumer i should not have to pay for this, and i would like my money refunded. i also think that this is a well known ford issue, such that no only do dealerships stock these specific parts, they created a specific test for it, and ford motor company should be help responsible. one should not have to be scared that they will die on the highway from the car cutting off without warning. it is unacceptable. i would like either all my money refunded or the money i paid this time. i have called ford both times and complained and opened cases, but they have been ignored. i appreciate any help with this. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The throttle body on my 2010 ford fusion se failed. my car lost power and stalled out four times while driving in traffic. i have replaced the part and would certainly like to see ford recall this part. *tr
Car simply started to shake, a wrench warning light came on and car rapidly decelerated. complete loss of ability to accelerate car, as if thrown into neutral. only way to correct is to stop and restart the car. this now happens every time i drive the car - no matter the speed. car has been going 65 mph and shut down. *tr
While driving down the road, the car will suddenly jerk and the check engine (wrench) light will come on and i will immediately lose all ability to accelerate. after pulling the car over and putting the car in park, the car begins to shake until i turn off the car. when i turn the car back on, it takes a minute to turn over and then drives fine until it happens again.
As i was driving on the freeway in the middle lane, my accelerator pedal stopped working. i was able to swerve between other cars to get to the right lane shoulder where i was able to stop and shut it off. i sat for a minute and the car started back up fine and went on. this again happened 2 days later from the left lane during rush hour traffic, a lot more dangerous. *js
I was turning left into a driveway and my car lost acceleration but did not quit running. i pulled over to the side of street and turned the car off for a few minutes and the car started back up with no problem. there was no check engine light or any other indicator that something was wrong. it happened again same day same thing. it worries me that i might be killed the next time. i called the ford dealership and was told this has happened to several of their customers but no recalls are on record. this is very dangerous and ford should take a close look at this before someone is killed or seriously injured. *jb
Vehicle sputters stops and then can be restarted ...only to do it again. i had the fuel line cleaned and it did no good..took to a dealer and lo and behold p2111...i received part today and will be hopefuly getting it done tomorrow...im out $400.00!!! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle would not accelerate. the vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the approximate failure mileage was 68,300. *tr
I recently purchased the vehicle used with 43,000 miles on it. in order to get the vehicle registered in my state i had to have an emissions test done. at some point during the test the vehicle's electronic power steering system detected a fault that disabled the power steering. when i got back in the car i had no power steering and the trip computer listed the following errors: "service power steering now" and "service advanced trac". i immediately took the car to the ford dealer where they diagnosed the problem as being an internal electrical issue with the eps system. they stated this wasn't an issue that could be fixed other then replacing the whole power steering rack. the dealer is charging $1,854.52 for the job. i have looked up this issue online and it appears that many people have had this happen while driving. i wasn't driving the car at the time but the test did involve driving the car on a dynamometer up to speeds of around 60 mph. if the system failed then, it could have happened at anytime. i don't understand why the system shuts off automatically when it detects an issue. driving the car, and suddenly loosing power steering is a scary concept. these systems seem to be unreliable and put the passengers and other vehicles at risk. when reading in the owners manual about these error codes it states that the system will shut off when it detects a fault. but this is not a "normal" problem for cars. with a hydraulic system this would never happen. *tr
After traveling on the highway @ 60 miles per hr, the car lost acceleration speed and was slowing down. the check engine light and a wrench was shown on the dash board.the car would not work. after i turned it off and was able to restart but no sooner it happened again, unable to accelerate. this happened to me a few weeks ago on my way to work. i was traveling 40mph when i lost power and could not accelerate. *tr
I was driving my 2010 ford fusion, with 43,000 miles on the highway passing a car, when i experienced a jerk and could no longer accelerate. i looked in my rearview mirror to see a car approaching very quickly. i was lucky that i was only passing one car and it had already gotten by me so i pulled back over and coasted to the side of the road. there was a wrench light on. i turned car off, waited a moment and started it again. the wrench was gone. took it to the ford dealership and no codes came up. however, the etb check found a fault. the electronic throttle body was replaced. this is serious problem that needs to be corrected immediately before someone is injured or killed. *tr
Vehicle stalled and check engine light came on. dealer identified problem as faulty throttle body, and replaced it. it was not covered by powertrain warranty. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while traveling 70 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled. the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was found that the throttle body had failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 40,700.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford fusion. the contact stated that while traveling approximately 50 mph, the vehicle suddenly lost acceleration power. the contact diagnosed the vehicle as having a throttle body failure. the contact personally repaired the vehicle. the manufacturer was contacted about the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000.
My car stalled on a busy highway (21 n). luckily i was in the right lane and could coast off to the side. i turned my car off and then back on and it was fine. it happened two more times; one while going to work and yesterday when dropping my elderly mother off at her home. i was afraid to drive the highway to work as there is a lot of construction and nowhere to turn off the road should it happen again. i am now sitting at the ford shop and they tell me it is the throttle body and will cost $560 to fix. this car is barely three years old and i am a little disappointed to find that there have been so many complaints about this particular part without a resolution. i no longer feel safe driving in my car. *tr
When driving through a intersection the car just quits working almost were ran into many times. i took the car to the ford dealer and they are replacing the throttle body. *tr
Sat at stop sign and when i went to pull into traffic the car wouldn't accelerate and went real slow and was sputtering. *tr
My car suddenly lost power and turned off 3 times in the past week. the first time at about 9pm i was driving on the freeway when my car suddenly shut off going at about 65 mph. it was scary as the car seemed to jerk and swerve before shutting off. i had to cruise off to the right but with traffic blowing by so fast and my car dropping speed super fast i almost got into a car accident. i was able to turn the car back on about 10 min later and got off the freeway. about 5 miles later the car shut off again at a slower speed appx. 15mph. my check engine light came on and my car no longer started. i got towed home. today 9/16/13 my car started and i drove to my nearest ford service center (sunrise ford north hollywood). while on my way my car shut off again. i waited 5 min. and it started again. my car was diagnosed ($150.00) and i was told that it was the electronic throttle body. total cost of repair is going to cost me apprx $480. this includes diagnostic, parts and labor. oh and i was told that this part is back ordered. powertrain warranty does not cover this issue and my 3 year 36000 miles expired. i was having jerking problems with the car at about 36,000 miles, i was told that my warranty expired and that i had a bad battery. *tr
As i was going to work just before 5 pm - i was traveling about 35 mph but lost power yet was able to roll slightly off the road. i pumped the gas pedal to no avail. i call the service department of ford in our town and made an appointment for the next morning. (this had happened to me about a week before as i was pulling into my mother's driveway.) i was able to restart the car and continue to work. as i was leaving work, i only got about 1/10 of a mile and it happened again. i pumped the gas pedal but had no power. each time i noticed a "wrench" light on the dashboard. i again pulled off the road and called roadside assistance. when the tow truck driver arrived he said he had towed one the previous day with the same trouble. luckily, mine was still under warranty. i was told the next day by the service department that it was the "throttle block". it was ready for pick up later that day, but i was going out of town and when i returned to pick it up - they pulled the paperwork for another car (not mine) at first that had the same problem. i also learned that my granddaughter 2010 fusion had the same problem within a few weeks. this has to be a defective part ! i hope that ford will make a recall for the "throttle block" and repay all those who have had to pay because their warranty had expired. *tr
Vehicle stalled during morning traffic. pulled to side and restarted. stalled again. had to get car towed to dealership. throttle body needed to be replaced. *tr
While driving approximately 40mph on a six lane divided road, the wrench caution light appeared (indicating transmission/throttle malfunction). the engine rpm immediately dropped and began fluctuating around 1,000 and the vehicle began to shake violently. there was absolutely no response to accelerator inputs. the driver was able to maneuver the vehicle clear of traffic. the maximum speed that could be attained at the fluctuating rpm was 14 mph. it is a miracle the vehicle was not in rear end collision as the posted speed limit was 45mph. car was allowed to idle at the reduced rpm while driver inspected the engine and pressed the accelerator. the car was turned off and back on (with a little bit of trouble turning over). the incident occurred once on 26aug2013, four times on 13sep2013, and once on 14sep2013. the car has not been driven since the last occurrence. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who recommended taking it to a ford dealership due to only having 1,400 miles left on the powertrain warranty. the service department was able to pull p2111 code. after receiving an exorbitant quote for the repair ($230 for part, $280 for labor) with no estimated delivery date for the backordered part, the repair was denied to allow for further research. the dealer has absolutely no qualms releasing the car with a known malfunction, presenting a hazard to the driver and others on the road. a car that immediately decelerates should be considered as dangerous as an uncommanded acceleration. to prevent serious injury/death, ford should issue and immediate recall for the failing throttle body. *tr
