First time driving in the snow today in my freestyle and as i was coming to a stop sign. i was braking and my car accelerated all by itself and i could not stop and went through the stop sign! i had my two kids in the car with me and it scared me to death! i am just glad there was no other vehicles around at the time. my car has done this in the past and its not safe at all but driving in the snow is extremely dangerous and i am scared to drive my own vehicle it seems to be getting worse. *tr

12/20/12- veh idles high and wants to accelerate when braking as advised by a recall and ford dealer stacher cleaned the throttle body and reprogrammed the pcm.program code; 12n03 repair type-31 wrty claim. customer code a99. 4/25/13---veh is shutting off while driving. had new throttle body put on at firestone. car cut off and stalled a few times. firestone reinstalled old throttle body and when we took the van back to ford dealer and they again verified concern and performed ids diagnosis, code po613b, secure map sensor hose and road tested 26 miles. did not stall, stated it may have other issue. invoice cost $93.00 4/30/13----veh shut off 4 or 5 times. satcher dealer drove van and could not duplicate problem. 4/31/13 received car from dealer and after duplicating problem returned car back to dealer. 5/2-3/13 - rented enterprise vehicle. invoice cost $98+. 5/07/13 advised to come get the car after 10 days without loaner car . no paperwork given although requested. when called and asked for paperwork advised there was none. when asked of work performed they said they reprogrammed pcm. 5/26/13 car stopped again several times and when taken back to the same dealer they hooked it to an onboard computer. car driven for 5 weeks without it stopping again. 7/17/13 - dealer requires computer back and was taken off the car. situation is dangerous because acceleration is unpredictable and engine power shuts down at any time.. *tr

At 49,660 miles we had to have the throttle body changed because the car lunged forward and stalled out. on june 19, 2012 our 2007 ford freestyle was serviced with a transmission flush and fluid change, and a multi-point inspection. everything looked good. on nov. 5, 2012 it would rev up when driving and would not accelerate. after researching, we found out that the cvt transmission that was put in the 2005-2007 ford freestyle is a defective design that poses numerous safety concerns. ford does not even make the transmission any more, so our only choice is to pay over $5000 for a used/rebuilt one that may have the same problems. our car is only 5 years old. we have taken good care of it. we need a reliable vehicle and do not have the money to fix this. please have ford recall these faulty cvt transmissions and have more concern for safety and customer satisfaction. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while the vehicle was in reverse, the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly. the failure recurred as soon as the contact shifted into drive. the check engine warning light illuminated during the failure. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileages were 45,000.

We purchased this vehicle on wednesday august 8th, 2012. we were backing up out of a parking spot and as my husband turned the steering wheel the car accelerated backwards and the car shut off after he hit the brakes. he did not have his foot on the accelerator at all. in fact, he was in transition from the brake and his foot hadn't even hit the accelerator pedal yet. this is the only problem we have experienced since having the vehicle. i would not say it lunges forward or reverse- i would say it hops forward or reverse. it's seems to be a spurt of acceleration. the vehicle shifts fine into gear, no stalls, no grinding noises, just little spurts when it's backing up. the only difference between my husbands driving and mine is that i always engage the emergency brake when i park. i'm used to driving manual transmissions. so, when i put the vehicle into reverse i still have the emergency brake on and the spurts do not occur with my driving. i did find it alarming that with my particular vehicle it does not require my foot to be on the brake pedal in order to start the vehicle. i can start the vehicle by simply turning the key. this is not something i'm used to seeing in modern vehicles as i am used to driving volkswagen's. i'm concerned because i don't know if this problem will get worse. will i drive down the road and not be able to stop? i can't afford extra parts. i love everything about this vehicle (and from a volkswagen enthusiast that says a lot). i just don't know what to do or what the worst case scenario is. i don't want to lose my life. *tr

The freestyle will rev and surge forward or backwards when in gear and idle. this primarily occurs when the a/c unit is on. i have to apply the brakes until the car goes back to normal rpm. typically this happens in parking lots or drive-thru lanes and has caused me several close calls for collisions. sometimes after the surge happens, the wrench light on the dash comes on. i am not able to drive as the car feels underpowered and i cannot accelerate well. turning off the car, waiting a bit, then restarting seems to reset it. dealer says it's a known problem with the throttle body and there is no recall for the part and is very expensive to replace. *tr

When reversing out of and into various parking spaces, the vehicle lurches forward when i am not accelerating. i cannot detect a pattern but it has happened at least 6 times. *tr

I was going to pull out into a 4 lane road and was easing up to see better...out of nowhere the car begins to accelerating. once i got out into the road the car just cut off and i had to quickly restart it to avoid being hit. then i turned in to chic fil a and was in the drive thru line. it was a pretty long line so we would ease up ever few minutes. the car jumps and starts to accelerating and i stomp on the brakes. the car was accelerating so much that the force of the brakes stopping the car made my tires squeal. *tr

I have recently purchased the 2007 ford freestyle and have noticed at times when i put it into drive or reverse it lunges without my pressing the acceleration. this is very concerning because it feels unsafe and likely to cause an accident! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle would surge and jerk abnormally. the contact was concerned that the vehicle was attempting to accelerate. the wrench warning light was continuously illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who performed a diagnostic test but the could not diagnose a failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 114,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward while driving at low speeds or while stopped. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, who ran a diagnostic test but could not diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 117,557.

My 2007 ford freestyle will lunge unexpectedly in idle, with foot on the brake. sometimes the vehicle will surge and shut down. this happens more with the air conditioning on. i will shut off the a/c, then restart the vehicle and drive without a/c. *tr

We had noticed that the car would surge from time to time at lower speeds. i found some information on the wed that indicated that nhtsa was investigating a lunging problem. i took that information to the dealership and was sure that they would repair because of the safety issues. i found that they would not, but they have a tsb 11-10-21 for the problem that appears to be like what we are experiencing. i am a professor in the automotive engineering technology department at minnesota state university, mankato and this is a definite safety issue. yesterday while hooking up a trailer, the car lunged in reverse.....my wife was trying to hook up a trailer with someone between the car and trailer. no one was injured, but it is a safety problem. *tr

Bought vehicle used 8 days ago. on two occasions, once yesterday and once today, the vehicle seemed to throttle up with gas pedal not applied and foot on brake. both instances were in a parking lot. on both instances...outside temperature was over 100 degrees f and the air conditioner was on in both front/back modes. i simply put the car in drive and as i was turning out of parking spot, foot on brake maneuvering turn...the vehicle lunged forward. startled me on both occasions. i was able to stop vehicle, but some distance had occurred. fortunately, no one was in front of me. the "lunge" almost feels like you "stomped" the gas pedal to the floor for just a second. that is the best description of what the discrepancy feels like. i'm very worried...just purchasing this vehicle. it's the weekend, so i will be in contact with a dealership first thing. *tr

While driving in 90 degree + temperatures, we have noticed that the car lurches while reversing from a parking spot, or at a stop. braking does stop the unexpected acceleration, however it still feels unsafe. this has happened 3-6 times, and as recently as today (7/17/12). it is not driver error - again has happened enough that we are able to analyze that the foot is not on the gas. check engine light comes on when this occurs. *tr

Over the months, when driving the vehicle there were inconsistent occurrences of surging forward or backward at low speeds without accelerating. typically this has occurred when parking or backing out of a parking spot/garage. it has increased lately and this past friday, the vehicle surged greatly and then the engine stalled. this has happened after idling. the only "remedy" is shutting the vehicle down completely and then restarting. *tr

I was pulling into a parking space when the car lunged and hit the concrete wall in front of me. it had been doing this mildly for a couple of days. during this event, the speed was unexpected and dangerous. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle lunged forward rapidly even though the accelerator pedal was not applied. the failure recurred several times while driving and while parking. the contact had to brake in order to stop acceleration. the check engine warning light and the service needed warning light illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or repair shop for inspection or repair. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a diagnostic test was scheduled. the failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 80,000.

My 2007 ford freestyle has a cvt transmission problem. when i arrived at the hotel, the valet parking driver almost hit the car on the front because of sudden accelerator of the transmission. i also almost hit another car after that. *jb

Low speeds forward or reverse, here in florida hot humid environment, car accelerates faster than foot pedal response. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving in reverse. the vehicle was restarted and a light on the instrument panel illuminated, indicating there was a problem. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. the contact was informed that the vehicle would need a new throttle body and a new transmission. the manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileages were 120,000.

When i move my 2007 ford freestyle from park to reverse or drive, my car lunges forward unexpectedly even though i'm not pressing on the accelerator. i have to brake hard to stop the car. sometimes the car's engine cuts out and the repair light goes on. when i restart the car it's ok. seems to happen more in warmer weather. i am concerned that the lunging will cause an accident soon as i must slam on the brakes to stop it. *tr

When i started backing up my car with the a/c on it start to lung and even shut off at times. i love to back in my parking space and this had never happened so this was a surprise to me. i pulled forward then cut the wheel and the moment i would put the car in reverse it would lung when my foot is on the breaks lightly. i was so frighten by this i took the car back to the oil change place today (7-11-12) to see if something was done wrong when they change the oil. then i took it to the car to the mechanic on 7-11-12 too; which all he could do for me was flush the throttle to see it that can help the problem. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle hesitated at start up and suddenly accelerated. the failure was experienced numerous times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who cleaned the throttle body however, the failure was not corrected. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 71,000 and the current mileage was 72,159.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestlye. the contact stated that while decreasing speed and while stopping, the vehicle pushed forward. the contact also stated that the vehicle momentarily surged forward when the accelerator pedal was no longer engaged. the contact had to rapidly apply the brakes to stop the vehicle. the failure recurred frequently. the throttle body was replaced, but the failure continued. the failure and current mileages were 42,000. updated 8/7/12 *cn

The car first started when i had it on cruise control going down the highway at 70mph. i had the air conditioning on and the tach went to 4,000 rpms and the car shut off while going down the highway. the car when sitting idle will idle up and down. when put into reverse or drive the car jumps forward or backwards and you can barely stop it by pressing the brakes. now when the car is put into reverse and your backing out of a parking space the car will lunge and then turn off. *js

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle abnormally accelerated with the brakes depressed. the throttle warning light illuminated after the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer confirmed that the throttle body assembly needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was contacted and the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 49,799 and the current mileage was 49,803. updated 07/05/12*lj updated 07/10/12

I was doing a 3 point turn at my public storage facility. my foot was not on the accelerator nor on the brake. i was in drive. suddenly my car sort of sped up or lunged forward as if my foot were on the gas pedal. luckily i was far enough away from the storage unit in front of me so that i was able to stop the car without incident. i thought maybe it was a fluke or my imagination. however, it has happened a few more times since then so i will be taking it in to have it checked. i also decided to check for recalls for this issue and found that other freestyle owners were having similar incidents. i live in a high-rise with underground parking. our parking is tight with cars on all sides. so i now spend a lot more time pulling in and out because i am afraid the car might lunge me right into one of my garage neighbors' cars. it does not happen at any regular frequency from what i can tell. however, it has happened in drive and reverse (both with my foot not on a pedal). *tr

The vehicles accelerates when brake is on. has happened on multiple occasions and for both drivers of vehicle. the vehicle just surges forward a short distance. don't know exact first date as it was infrequent and i thought maybe i was imagining it. second driver of vehicle confirmed problem. only goes forward a few inches but very scary and frequency is increasing. will be taking to shop. see this is listed on web sites as a frequent problem with the 2007 freestyle. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph in reverse, there was an unexpected increase in acceleration without warning. the brake pedal was depressed several times before coming to a stop. the vehicle was taken to three different independent mechanics and they were unable to duplicate the problem. in addition, the contact stated that all four power door locks failed to lock. the manufacturer was not notified of the defect. the approximate failure mileage was 87,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle accelerated on its own. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnosis. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure and current mileages were 62,000.

When idling at an intersection or taking off from a parked position...the freestyle will experience a quick surge of acceleration. i have been fortunate enough to apply the brake to stop the vehicle without incident. it seems to occur more when air conditioning is on. the most recent occurrence happened to my wife when she was out with the kids. she put on the gas, it lunged forward, she slammed the brakes and then the engine stalled...this happened twice. we parked the vehicle in a parking lot overnight. we were able to drive it the next morning to the ford dealership for service. it's happening way too often and it isn't safe. *tr

Vehicle lunges about 1 ft while foot is on break no reason in drive or reverse with no gas pressure, lunges about 6 feet without foot on break no warning or reason, vehicle jerks and stalls and loses power after lunging 1-2 ft in reverse, throttle /transmission light will turn on and off. when put on the diagnostic the computer the car computer will not keep code, i live in a family neighborhood this is very dangerous kids play in the street!!!! ford needs to take responsibility!! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that the vehicle surged while driving at low speeds. the failure would mostly occur when the contact was attempting a turn. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. the failure mileage was 73,000 and the current mileage was 78,099...updated 11/01/12 *bf the consumer stated there were 3-4 incidents of surging, from trying to park or pulling into a parking space. updated 11/02/12

My foot was on the brake and i had the car in drive. the engine revved and the vehicle lunged. it has done so on multiple occasions since. it usually occurs when the air conditioner is running. *tr

The 2007 freestyle which was built near the end of 2006. it was ok when first purchased as used back in 2008. but as time went on its throttle began to surge unexpectedly. eventually it began to happen often enough for my wife and i to notice how it usually happens when the ac is on. it's particularly a problem while pulling in and out of parking spaces. now it happens every single day beginning when the car is backed out of the garage. we have learned to keep our foot on the brake to stop the car from crashing into anything. to me the problem seems to be getting worse. but i don't drive it as often as does my wife. she says that the progression of the problem seems to have slowed down. but she says she has gotten used to compensating for it. the car also has difficulty starting occasionally. maybe that is related to the surging throttle. but so far we have not noticed the starting problem correlating with anything in particular. the local ford dealer says there is a recall to have the throttle body cleaned. that has been scheduled. *tr

When you slow down to stop, vehicle sometimes lunged, or accelerates. when you back out of a parking spot, vehicle sometimes suddenly lunged or accelerates. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while shifting from park to drive, the vehicle erroneously accelerated. the vehicle was able to be driven to the dealer where it was determined that the throttle body had failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. the failure mileage was 51,000 and the current mileage was 53,126.

When i put the car in drive it lunges forward and when you put it in reverse it lunges back. if your foot is not on the brake you can hurt someone. its worse when the air conditioner is on. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact was entering a parking space at 5 mph when the engine rpm's increased excessively. the vehicle was taken to a mechanic who inspected the failure and replaced the throttle body assembly. neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 101,011.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact was driving 30 mph when the vehicle began to loose power. the vehicle would lunge forward abnormally when braking to a complete stop. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer and the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 112,000.

The cars rpms are revving on there own while car is idling or is moving very slowly as in when trying to park or barely moving forward or back. when this happens the car jumps. i have almost hit two cars and some kids in a school parking lot. this needs to be looked into. *tr

While driving at a slow speed, my ford freestyle will lunge forward even while braking. i have jumped curbs because of this issue and feel that this problem should be addressed before it causes someone serious injury. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that when shifting into drive, reverse or park, the transmission made a loud noise and caused the vehicle to jerk. the vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist, who performed a diagnostic and advised the contact that the cvt transmission was defective and would need to be replaced. the transmission was not replaced. additionally, the vehicle abnormally accelerated several times. the throttle body was replaced and the failure was corrected. the vin was not available. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure and current mileage was 160,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact stated that while driving 60 mph and merging onto the highway, the vehicle started hesitated without any warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body was defective and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 95,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford freestyle. the contact was traveling 3 mph in the reverse position and when the brakes were depressed, the vehicle accelerated unexpectantly and the engine stalled. the check engine warning light illuminated after the failure. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 83,000.
