Problems with 2006 Ford Freestyle VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL

I have now had the diagnostic ran and the bad throttle body came in. i contacted ford and filed a complaint and request for financial assistance. there are hundreds of blog entries with this same issue. it is dangerous and some people are buying new cars because of it. i do not have this luxury. the repair is going to cost around $750.00 which i cannot afford either. if ford knows about this, and it is currently under investigation, then why is there no recall? this car is a danger on the roads. we are being put in harms way every day, and now to boot we are having to replace a defective part that owners have had issues with for the past 2 years. the posts i have read are from all across the country, with people having the exact same issues. we are being taken advantage of. please make them do something about this. sounds a lot like toyota. *kb

My ford freestyle se has begun stalling when i put on the brakes to stop. it has also started lurching forward uncontrollably when stopping as well. during this incident, my foot is on the brake. this is a very dangerous situation because the car is not under my control when it is accelerating. stalling at a stop sign or red light or when applying the brakes is a huge safety concern for a rear-end collision. this is a serious safety issue. *tr

There have been multiple engine or transmission related problems with this vehicle dating back to 1 year ago. last august, the car started lunging when idle without the driver pressing the gas. this happened numerous times when we lived in california while idling at traffic lights or while driving slow in parking lots. we brought it in and had a part replaced for $800 and was told everything was fine. 3 weeks later the car was revving high and making a loud whur. we brought it back in and was told that the transmission had to be replaced and that this was a known defect with the freestyle automatic transmission. it cost over $5000. we moved to georgia in april and the lunging problem resurfaced. we had to spend another $1300 to fix this. then low and behold, 6 weeks later, the transmission blew again. this car is a hazard and needs to be taken off the road by ford.

I have a ford freestyle 2006. it has a throttle problem that causes it to lurch and sometimes shut off. it occurs only in hot weather generally over 90 degrees (at this time.) it is a safety issue due to the fact that the car accelerates quickly from idle and often in reverse or while sitting in idle at a stop light. i have to apply the brakes firmly to prevent an accident and sometimes this sudden braking causes the car to shut off. *tt i have taken it to the local ford dealership and they have not determined the problem, mainly because it does not cause the engine light to come on and help them diagnose the problem. i have not had the problem corrected due to the fact they say it has to be occuring when i bring it in and it never seems to do it for them. i have read of many others experiencing the same thing when i tried looking into the cause. it sounds like most people have had to replace the throttle control. seems like a serious defect. *tt

When placed in reverse or drive vehicle suddenly and unexpectedly accelerated. this happens even when driver's foot is on the brake petal and usually when a/c is on. typically happens when the car is first started and placed into gear but will happen even if car has been running a while, stopped, and changed into a different gear.

I have two (2) 2006 ford freestyles. the first one has 85,000 miles when the dash cluster and throttle body needing replacing. the car would surge forward and accelerate beyond our control. ford told us there were no known problems. the repairs cost $1700. the second vehicle, same year, has 105,000 miles and is now starting to show the same symptoms. the car accelerates and surges randomly. again, ford told me there are no known problems and there was nothing they were willing to do to help. the dealership told me the original manufacture of the throttle bodies went bankrupt and they are now sourcing the part from some other company. the parts will not be available for several weeks. in the mean time, my vehicle surges and accelerates beyond my control, causing several near collisions at low speeds and while parking. *tr

It just started lurching when you let off the brake, i have almost hit the car in front of me because of this. i have been told this problem is caused by the throttle body assembly. it happens in my drive way, at fast food drive thrus, the bank. i have yet to fix it because the part is on back order through ford. i have tried to locate one on the internet. this part is about $500. it happens sporadically so you never know when it'll lurch. it scares me and who ever is with me. *tr

When driving my 2006 ford freestyle if i am stopping, at a light, through a drive through, or pulling into a parking space my car lunges forward - even with my foot on the brake. this past weekend we were stopped at a light when this happened and the car lunged forward and we had to throw the car in neutral to stop before we ended up in oncoming traffic. we also almost hit a car pulling into a parking space this weekend. the issue is getting worse now and the dealership has stated it is a throttle body issue. the problem seems worse when i am running the ac. the issue is that the car lunges forward even though the brake is pressed. it is a very scary and i am worried i am going to hit another car or an innocent bystander who walks in front of my car. i purchased the extended warranty for my car so the dealership is covering the cost but is saying the part is on national backorder and i may have to drive my car while i wait. *tr

We have a 2006 ford freestyle which has driven well for years without significant problems. in july 2010, we became concerned with the car's sudden acceleration in both reverse and drive. each time you place the car into gear (without touching the accelerator), the car lunges forward or backward and it is terrifying to drive. after the car lunges it will sometimes stall. you cannot ease slowly out of parking spaces or more slowly through traffic because you could easily hit another car or person. the sudden acceleration started out as hardly noticeable but now the car is completely unsafe. on july 22, 2010, we took the car to our ford dealership and they told us the problem was will the "throttle body". they told us we couldn't drive the car at all until this part was replaced. nationwide this part is on back order for at least 2 weeks. apparently, this is a problem for many 2006 freestyles. *tr

Our 2006 ford freestyle has started to accelerate at higher speeds when putting in reverse even when brake is being applied,this also happens when putting into drive ,but not as often as reverse. we have 50,000 miles on our car and have had no other problems thus far. our check engine light came on today and i am planning on contacting a ford dealer tomorrow to get it diagnosed? i think ford needs to recall the throttle body's in these vehicles, i had no idea so many owners of the 2006 ford freestyle are having the same problem as we are. *tr

Daughter was driving car in chico ca i was in passenger seat. 100 degree temps and the air conditioner was operating at high setting. she was slowly rolling forward into a parking space covering the brake when the car lurched forward as though she had stepped on the gas. contacted the dealer by phone today and he assured me that there were no service bulletins concerning this issue. he said because no check engine light came on that it probably would not show up on a computer check. i will be stopping by tomorrow to have them diagnose the problem. *tr

Early july 2010 car would surge after started when placed into drive or reverse. july 17,2010 about 95 degrees ambient. driving 55 mph car started to lose power and stall. restarted and it went into limp mode with check engine light and occasional surges. i found a ford dealer about 5 miles away. diagnosis was a bad mass air flow sensor. replaced and we were on our way again. early june 2011 it was surging after starting when placed in drive or reverse. june 11,2011. car stalled and went into limp mode again with check engine light on. bought a new mass air flow sensor, installed it myself and cleared the code. july 5,2011 while driving to baltimore at 65 mph and 100 degree ambient, car stalled, restarted and it went into limp mode with check engine light on. i found a parking lot with shade and let it idle for about 20 minutes. shut it off and restarted. check engine light was off and it ran fine to baltimore. this appears to be an issue with the mass air flow circuit. nhtsa cannot ignore this flaw. *kb

One day our ford freestyle decided to lurch forward on it's own. it then lost power and had several more surges. it was under an extended warranty (which i paid for) at the time and was covered. ford however was well aware of the problem and we had to wait 1 month for a replacement throttle body to be manufactured. we were however paying for insurance on the rental out of our own pocket. after getting the car back we have had several more of the same type of incidents over the past year all of which mysteriously went away after turning the car off and then back on again. today it happened again this time it would not go away. i had an expert read the trouble codes from the cars computer. the results are all once again contained to the throttle body unit. ford let me know the part was out of warranty after 12,000 miles and repairs will cost me an additional 800 dollars. my wife uses this car to get around with my 7 year old and infant baby. this is a serious problem that could potentially end up with a tragic outcome. it is unacceptable that ford can act like this is not there fault and not be held accountable. my car is built on the ford 500 chassis and that car too has the same issues along with a few others. something should be done about this it immediately before someone gets killed if they haven't been already. i will pay again to have my car fixed again only because my family is in danger and i am being forced to. i have researched this extensively an know we are not alone. please finish this investigation and hold ford motor company accountable. thank you for your services in helping keep american lives safe! *tr

My 2006 ford freestyle (with approximately 60k miles) accelerates suddenly on its own when transitioning from a parked position and while idling. even when my foot is on the brakes, it dangerously jumps and proceeds with an extreme amount of speed. this causes difficulty when it occurs while parallel parking. additionally, the car stalls suddenly, without warning and the wrench light comes on. went to ford dealer and they charged me $108.00 to check the car and tell me that the throttle body and mass airflow sensor needed to be replaced. the ford service person indicated that the part was on back order for about 3 weeks as this is a common problem with this vehicle. three weeks has passed and they still do not have the part. i now understand the part cannot be located in any other city and that it may be atleast another 2 - 3 months before the part is available anywhere in the united states. no one offered a loaner car or anything. for this to be such a common problem where the part is on back order indicates to me that ford should be fixing the problem and/or compensating consumers who need vehicles (while awaiting this part and repair) that work safely. when parts are on back order indicating a demand, ford must be aware of the problem. yet the expected wait time on the part has increased which means they are doing nothing to stand by their product or make certain that safe vehicles are on the road. *tr

During warmer months, while using the ac, the vehicle will surge 20+ mph without the gas pedal being pressed. the car surges forward while idled, or at a red light. also surges when reversing. the car will surge and then not drive any faster than 25 mph on the freeway. mechanic said it was the throttle body. going to cost me $900+. *tr

Problem starts when car is sitting idle, in gear, and the a/c is on. the car will lurch forward without pressing the accelerator. it's as if someone is flooring the accelerator and i'm not even touching it. it happens as soon as i remove my foot from the brake. i've had to slam on the brakes to keep from running into things. many times the engine will stall and the wrench light comes on. after restarting, the light usually goes off. this happens any time the car sits idle for any length of time, i.e. drive-thrus, traffic lights, etc. i'm always worried the car will lurch out into traffic or i'll hit someone backing up as it's happened many times when backing out of a parking space. i feel this truly is a safety issue and don't understand why a recall hasn't been issued when the majority of complaints are for this same problem. *tr

We own a 2006 ford freestyle with approximately 90,000 miles on it. we have taken the car to the dealer for every scheduled service since purchasing it, oil changes, and "29 point checks" as ford advertises. this week, while driving the car, the car suddenly accelerated for no reason, without the accelerator depressed and continued to accelerate even with the brake depressed. it almost resulted in an accident. the only way to stop the car was to turn it off. upon bringing it to the dealer, we were told that the "throttle body" was defective and needed to be replaced at a cost of about $ 1,400. upon researching the nhtsa website, we discovered that there were approximately 200 or more complaints regarding a similar issue with the same model car and the same model year (unexpected acceleration and loss of control). the dealer indicated that the "throttle body" could not be replaced until august 20, 2010, as there are no longer parts available anywhere in the country. and for the next 35 days the car cannot be driven. upon calling the ford motor company consumer hotline, the girl with whom i spoke told me that "the part is on backorder" before i even had a chance to tell her what part i was referring to, leading me to believe she was already aware of the problem and the shortage of parts was due to having to effect so many of these repairs. when i told her more about the problem and the fact that this was a serious safety issues (even referencing the recent case with toyota), she put me on hold for almost 20 minutes while she tried to reach different people, but she would not acknowledge or discuss whether this was a known issue by ford. she evaded the question just told me that she would have someone "escalate the request" and would call me. she sounded very defensive, and became more defensive when i told her about the near accident but couldn't explain how they could be out of this specific part throughout the entire country. this is a serious safety issue. *tr

I am very concerned that my vehicle accelerates on its own and ford will not do anything about this problem.this has happened several times while in drive and reverse causing me to almost strike another vehicle. i own a 2006 ford freestyle and have contacted the manufacturer several times and had it to a ford dealership. it was diagnosed as the throttle body and ford is aware of the safety issue but is doing nothing. i was told that the part would not be available until at least the end of september. ford knows that this part is defective causing acceleration in the vehicle and still will only tell me there is a national backorder and they are doing everything they can. the safety of my family and others on the road is of no concern to them. they refuse to provide me with a safe vehicle to drive. i believe this issue needs to be addressed. they are knowingly risking the lives of my family and others on the road by knowingly not issuing a recall. not only is this dangerous when this part does eventually get redesigned and produced by ford even though it is a safety issue and defect in ford freestyles i had to pay $75 to have the problem diagnosed on july 6, 2010 and my cost to repair the issue when the part is available will be approximately $700. i cannot believe that ford is being allowed to operate business in this way. my first contact regarding this problem was july 6, 2010 and still nothing. ford has not provided me with the part required to fix my car and cannot tell me when it will be available. they also will not provide me with a safe vehicle to drive and is suggesting that i continue to drive a car that accelerates on its own. they should not be allowed to stay in business. i am contacting all necessary authorities regarding this safety issue that ford will not address or resolve. *tr

2006 ford freestyle with approx 40,000 miles, hear acceleration/deceleration when not moving, turn off car and resets, once had to reset as many as 5 times to be able to drive out of parking lot - had to stop and turn off car in middle of driving lane in parking lot, difficult to steer when issue is occurring, repaired throttle control body (took over 2 weeks for dealership to obtain part, dealer could not provide rental and i did not drive my car for over a week due to safety issue). *tr

Surging from a while brake applied or when letting off brake but before applying gas. front end noises when turning to right, loud creaking sound. brakes make a creaking sound also but show now signs of needing to be replaced. all issues started at the same time. *tr

2006 ford freestyle, in 2010 issue w/lurching originally in reverse only & later in drive also. extreme when shifting into gear & taking foot off brake. reported to dealership,they told us they had not heard of this issue & were not able to replicate it. researched on the internet & found others w/ similar issues. throttle body identified as responsible for sudden lurching. brought up the issue w/dealer prior to our being out of warranty. it was after the factory warranty expired,the part was finally changed. dealer stated could not replicate issue even though we brought it to their attention several times. only when occurring all the time - dealer acknowledged the issue. ford denied any safety issue & said we needed to pay for a replacement of the throttle body. cost between $1,000 - $2,000 including labor.ford & dealership insisted not a safety issue & no recall.we appealed to our dealer, armed with info from the internet citing info was on various sites by hundreds of ford freestyle owners .local dealer partnered with us to replace the part for $100.00. we believe that they did this due to the fact they had serviced 100% of the work on the car since it was purchased. one year later & same lurching began again in both reverse and drive. we went back to the local dealership and they tested the car and found the part indeed has failed again & is lurching. the local dealership stated once again they have no formal notice of recall or problems with the 'throttle body'. ford once again has denied that there are any issues with this part. dealership partnered w/us & replaced part in july '11 for 2nd time. we have 2 invoices for both replacements. .just this last weekend even though the part was just replaced a 2nd time, we noticed twice that the car lurched in reverse. *tr

My '06 ford freestyle has been having problems with surging forward especially when moving slowly back and forth into a parking spot. at times it even stalls. the surge causes the car to rapidly accelerate and i'm forced to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the car, wall, person, or whatever is in front of me. it usually happens when the ac is on. i have taken the car to a ford service station on three different occasions and they have been unable to detect the problem. on the first attempt, they could not duplicate my concern. the next two times i went into the car with the technicians and they did experience the surging motion. however, when running the diagnostic on the car, no problems were indicated. most recently, the electrical system was updated on the car and i was sent home, as the technicians said they drove the car and no longer felt the surging. by the time i exited the highway (5 miles later) the car was surging and threatening to stall out. i have been researching online and have discovered multiple freestyle owners with the same complaint. most have indicated that the cause is the throttle body. i have made another appointment to bring in my car tomorrow and have photocopied some of those complaints. if this issue is prevalent in ford freestyles, there should be a recall for our vehicles to be repaired at ford's expense. driving my 4 year old car should not make me feel like my life is in danger. *tr

I have a 2006 ford freestyle the throttle body has gone bad and it cause the car the lunge out of control. this could be a problem as it lunges about a foot or two and you could easily hit a person or car or someother object. *tr

Vehicle suddenly lurches forward without pressing the accelerator. seems to happen when just starting to move or sometimes while coming to a stop.

My 2006 ford freestyle is lurching forward when stopped or going at very slow speeds in forward and reverse. it also has stalled a few times. when it stalls and i restart it, it will not accelerate even to 30 mph. the lurching problem has caused me on multiple occasions to almost hit either pedestrians walking in front or behind my vehicle, almost hit other vehicles, and has lurched me out into the street in front of other vehicles who had the right of way. this is a very serious problem which has the potential for future deaths, especially when pedestrians are involved, along with being forced out into oncoming traffic. my freestyle just started dong this lurching in the past 6 months or so, but apparently the problem has been ongoing since 2005. when i took it in to the dealer for service they acted like they had never heard of the problem and charged me for a diagnostic, then noted that if that didn't work they might try checking the throttle body. this is unacceptable. ford is putting the lives of it's so-called 'family' in danger and is not stepping up to the plate to fix the problem or even face it head on by implementing a recall. something needs to be done before there are fatalities! *tr
