Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2013 Ford Focus

When i put the car in drive and begin to accelerate the car stalls and jerks rapidly when throwing itself into 2nd gear. once it finishes the jerking and stalling motion it makes a loud rattling sound under the hood. when in gear and accelerated going to 35-55 it will stall then the rpms will go higher and it will jerk back into gear accelerating faster than i was going. sometimes it will barely go from a stopped position to trying to accelerate then all of the sudden jerk into gear. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that after shifting from reverse into drive, the engine vibrated and caused the entire vehicle to shake violently. the contact mentioned that no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel and the vehicle resumed its normal operation after the vehicle shifted from first to second gear. the failure occurred on two separate occasions. the manufacturer was contacted and did not offer a remedy. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the clutch assembly and transmission needed to be replaced.the vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. the failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 15,300.

Just purchased a used ford focus se 2013. the car lurches forward upon accelerating and then the rpms decrease while accelerating, then increase for a moment, then decrease again. this happens any time i accelerate. the car jerks forward then stops. while the rpms are increasing, the car makes a revving sound almost as if i'm in the wrong gear (though it's an automatic), then it sounds as if it's stopping while the rpms drop. i hear an intermittent grinding sound that seems like the transmission is being overtaxed or damaged. *tr

Going for transmission #2 see if this one can last more than 3 months. last ford i will buy should have kept my 2008 taurus had one problem with it the whole time i owned it. what happens when my warranty runs out and every three months i have to have clutches changed. *tr

The transmission has been repaired time and time with no fix. the recall fix was a failure as well. took the transmission in for repair they stated that was normal for that transmission. sometimes it jets off then other times it will not go. ford should have replaced my car or that transmission awhile ago. the car is currently getting worse.

The vehicle stalls and shudders when shifting through lower gears. to avoid the issue you have to accelerate at a fairly high rate from a stop sign. very dangerous when turning corners. have taken into the dealer once scheduled for second trip this week. they say it is with in their tolerance boundaries. *tr

While accelerating from a stop there is a sudden loss of power with a dragging feeling. vehicle losses speed for several seconds then catches with a jolt. *tr

While driving , instrument cluster lights and notification lights blinked off and on 5 times car continued to run normal . also possible that the tach and speed needle dropped to zero and then went back up to normal . also starting from a stop hesitation and jerking while starting out from stopped position and from shifting from 1st to 2nd gear . automatic transmission. *tr

Bought the vehicle used with about 15,000 miles on it in the spring of 2014. didn't notice during initial test drive but after a couple days of driving found the transmission shudders and makes a loud grinding noise but only when starting out from a stop. took to local dealer on 7/16/2014 and they did a re flash they said should correct the problem. it was ok for a day or two but then the transmission started shuddering and grinding from stops again only now it continued to shudder even after it shifted into 3rd gear, before the re flash it only shuddered when shifting from 1st into 2nd gear and then it was fine. on 8/05/2014 i took it back to the dealer again . they tested it and said that even though they do feel the shudder i am still complaining about it still falls within fords guidelines and is considered normal, the service writer told me it will have to get so bad that the dash just about shakes itself loose before ford will do anything about it, like replace the clutches. on that visit they did not generate a repair order or give me a receipt probably because they didn't do anything. on 6/24/2015 i took the vehicle back to the same dealer again with the same complaint only this time i also told them that besides the shudder the vehicle will now actually bog down and stop moving right in the middle of an intersection for a second or two at times while its shuddering. once again they said there was another newer re flash available that may help the problem so they performed it . again it seemed to shift good for one day but after that it started shuddering and grinding all over again on start out from stops just as before only now it continues to shudder in 3rd, 4th and 5th gears all the way up to hwy speeds and continues to grind all the while. this condition is not safe, ford knows it and needs to do something about it asap before someone is killed.

The vehicle will stall upon pressing the clutch in while in gear or neutral regardless of speed at random intervals. i'll notice that coming to a stop with the clutch in the car has a hard time finding an idle then ultimately dies. this mostly happens while the car has been running for awhile and the ac is on however it has happened with the ac off. this has happened multiple times including while down shifting into a lower gear while turning. the dealership was unable to reproduce this despite showing video proof of the issue. this is an overall safety concern when the car could shut off at any given moment while driving. *tr

The transmission jumps and slips and on longer trips it gets to a point where the car is not safe to drive when you try to start moving it will bogg down and then it will take off and jump shutter we took it back to the dealer and they did rebuild the trans it run ok for about a month and the problem returned we took it back to the dealer and now they say this is normal for this car i can't see how this can be safe or normal to drive a car that jumps shutters and when you start out moving you can't tell if it's going to nose over and sit or take off my wife is scared to even drive this car any more and all ford says is this is normal i have talked to some other focus owners and most of them say the same thing that this transmission is not safe to drive and they all have the same issue

The transmission has been repaired or placed 5 times and it still has a shutter in the clutch. what this does upon taking off it start skipping so you don't know if you are going to make it thru the intercesion

Shifting into neutral (while decelerating/braking) will intermittently cause engine rpms to rapidly drop, resulting in engine failure/stall. attempts to restart the engine are typically successful, although occasionally requiring multiple attempts, due to engine re-stalling. key factors seem to be engine oil temperature, and braking/decelerating. *tr

Car is lagging and bogging consistently; turn acceleration in unpredictable, frequent transmission shuddering occurring, un-smooth shifting, i do not feel safe. low gas mileage 20-24. *tr

First the car was running fine when i bought it new in 2013. then around 10,000 miles the car started to jerk shudder and slip out of gear. . the car jerks at stop and go speeds and when baking slowly out our driveway. the car also makes a grinding noise when making turns at low speeds. lastly when riding the breaks at stop lights it sounds like something is grinding. ford replaced the clutch and the problem is still their. the two dealerships said everything would be corrected when the clutch was replaced but it has not. the ford customer service manager said that this is normal because it is a automatic manual transmission. why would you sell a car that performs like a 30 year old piece of junk. *tr

Continuance issues with my ford focus 2013 ford focus ?banging, jumping, slipping, shaking and grinding: it's has now become an issue that's affects the drivability and safety of the vehicle and passengers. ?bogging down ?takes off in a lurch, accelerates rapidly at times, safety issue ?cars rolls backward when stopped on a hill. safety issue ?car occasionally jolts forward when shifting at low gear, safety issue ?i?m told ?it has to learn how you drive.? i drive the car every day and it still hasn't so called, learned ?concerned about even pulling out in traffic for fear the car isn't going to go or will need time to find its gear. safety issue ?in stop and go traffic it; slips often/hesitating/jerking/stuttering and grinding. ?rpm spikes and drops when shifting. ?noise when making a left hand turn. ?sometimes will not go into reverse at all; on 9/9/14 stuck in a parking spot because the vehicle only moved two feet in reverse. prior to this incident, the vehicle was towed into dealers because it would not go into reverse at all. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled several times and the engine light remained illuminated. also, the contact mentioned that the vehicle shifted out of parked independently. the dealer advised it was normal for the vehicle to roll out of park on its own. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure and current mileage was 36,000.

The vehicle shudders, shakes, grinds and hesitates when shifting through low gears and when starting from a stop. it has done this since we bought it new in july 2013. i have an appointment with the ford dealership, but the person with whom i spoke said most of the issues they've seen like this are "within their tolerance limits." that is not okay! *tr

Vehicle bucked or shuddered when starting from a complete stop or if coasting and then gas applied. issue was said to be fixed at this time 4/30/14, which it did run better until it happened again on 9/6/14 when i pointed out the same issue. it was determined that there was a leak coming from the bell housing and it was dripping on the clutch causing the shuddering. on 9/16/14 it was taken to the garage for repair. i am still experiencing some shuddering, especially in reverse when going slow but also at times going forward. not satisfied that it is completely fixed, but ford has extended the warranty to 7 years/ 100,000 miles. i will be contacting the garage in the near future for them to look at it again. *tr

When accelerating from a stop or moving position in my car i get a crunching, grinding noise and sudden jerking. seems to come from the transmission but every time i take my car in for service they refuse to even look at the car and say it's normal and hand me paperwork saying it's fine. sometimes the car will hardly even accelerate from a stopped position or move as slow as molasses. i need help with this because it's very dangerous. *tr

I first noticed a problem with my transmission the first week i bought my '13 ford focus. i would hear a shuddering and gears grinding when i would accelerate and my transmission would slip when shifting gears. i took it to the dealer and asked them to check it out but was told that it was normal and nothing to worry about and sent me on my way without even taking a look under the hood. i informed them i was worried about getting into an accident with it and they said that would be impossible and it was of no concern. on friday, april 25th, 2014, after driving 40 minutes to work, i started my car up again and turned onto a main city road from a parking lot then onto a residential street. there, i noticed my transmission light had turned on and my car was having a difficult time shifting gears. the rpms skyrocketed and then plummeted. i was going about 20mph-25mph and my dash is reading 4rpms. i then turn onto another main road where my car started chugging along, it felt, while revving multiple times. i had no control over my own vehicle. about a mile or two away, i reached my destination. i parked and then started to drive again where my car then stopped and i had to declare it inoperable. the next day, i had to have the car towed. come to find out, the transmission problems i complained about to the dealer were not normal and any day my car was going to quit on me. april 25th, 2014 happened to be that day. my car is just outside of the lemon law as i purchased it last january. ford is hesitant on helping me and getting my car back and running. i was told there was no problem and nothing to worry about, therefore, i did not pursue the problem any further. *js

Clutch shuddering - vibrating at 13,648 miles - took in for repair - car was never quite right after that - now again at 29,000 miles its shuddering and vibrating again - ford telling me the parts may arrive sometime between 8 to 12 weeks for the repair. *tr

Vehicle has been in for service 4 times for issues with transmission. hesitates or jumps when shifting. sometimes almost stalls out. dealer has done everything they can and state that ford is not allowing them to service the vehicles. dealer stated they have 25 ford focus currently in for same issue. i am scared to drive the vehicle with my daughter in it, as this clearly is a safety issue. the issue seems worse at lower speeds and with a/c on. contacted ford and they are stating this is "normal operation" if it was normal operation, i don't understand why it would start around 10k miles and 1 year of driving. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that after parking the vehicle on a hill, it rolled away in reverse and crashed into another vehicle. a police report was not filed. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 14,000.

We had had this car in at least 6 times for issues with the transmission. the last visit was 2 weeks ago when the car would not start. there is also a warning light that is constantly on. they told us it has to do with a sensor by where the gas is put into the car but they don't seem to be able to fix the problem or turn off the warning light. the car still stutters and runs rough after many complaints. mostly when first accelerating after a stop. also clunks when turning.

Shifts into neutral when upshifting (automatic). shudders & grinds when shifts. have almost been rear ended numerous times due to late shifting or going into neutral. this happens on city streets and expressways. on third clutch and still happening.

Engine stalls and shuts off while coasting or coming to a stop with the clutch in. *tr

I purchased a ford focus vin #: [xxx] on 2-23-2013. maguire ford s. main st. po box 39 duncannon pa 17020 i first called the dealer about grinding sounds and hesitation when pulling out in low gear when the car had 18,000 miles. their initial explanation was that the ?new ford ? transmission as acting like a manual and some shudder and noise will be normal. it was obvious to be the car was not ?normal? and at 19,459 miles, april 4, 2014, the dealer found faulty clutches and put in a new clutch assembly (bv6z7b546d). it still did not feel right and i took it back april 12,2013. they said it is normal. i asked if they would extend the guarantee beyond the 60,000 miles as i envisioned this as a recurring problem. they did not. needless to say i was extremely disappointed. in august, 2014 , ford extended the warranty for seven years or 100,000 miles.( probably because of so many complaints) i was pleased until the car started acting up again at 38,000 miles . i took it in on 5/27/15 and the dealer confirmed i need clutches replaced again. however, the parts are backlogged and it will take three to four months! i am concerned about the safety factor. the shudder and grinding, i can live with for a while. the hesitation when pulling out into heavy traffic is unacceptable. in addition, a 100,000 warranty with a problem occurring every 20,000 miles means someone will eventually be faced with a huge repair bill, not to mention the diminished value of the car for resale or trade in due to this manufactures defect. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Since i purchased this vehicle i have had continuous problems with the transmission. the car has been disabled while driving twice. i have had the car in for service several times for software updates. the problem continues. the car shakes in the lower and higher gears. when i accelerate it hesitates creating a safety hazard. i have called customer service. she referred me to the dealer who in turn has told me there is nothing they can do. customer service has stopped answering my calls since last fall (2014). the problem continues.

Tl* the contact 2013 ford focus. the contact stated that he accelerated from a complete stop when he felt the transmission slip. the contact stated that failure only occurred whenever the vehicle was warm. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 35,000.

Transmission issues: clutch repairs x3 (drove off lot with issues. my mistake. i knew something was wrong with it during test drive, was reassured it was new technology.) 1 cleaning, 1 replacing of parts, then transmission control module went out while in motion on city street, going forward 25+ mph, quit completely. had towed. ran out of gas (in motion on a highway, 65 + mph) while monitor noted 150 to empty, found to be valve pressure management system failure, resulting in gas tank replacement

Car hesitates at take off and take off when making turns. *tr

This vehicle has a transmission problem that has it hesitating and lurching forward in the slower gears. it is very unpredictable when starting out and i have nearly hit several cars, several times. i brought it back to the dealership, and they updated the software. that did not fix the problem. then they told me it was a normal "feature" of the manual/automatic transmission. the computer would "learn" my driving habits after a short while. it never has and the problem persists. *tr

Purchased focus in march of 2013 soon after purchase vehicle began to lurch and hesitate while accelerating almost to the point vehicle would stall gets very scary when pulling into traffic with no power to accelerate. i immediately took vehicle back to dealership and they confirmed i needed a clutch that there was a seal leaking which caused the failure! they performed repair and not even a month later the problem occurred so i returned the vehicle again just to find out the other clutch they didn't replace had failed also. they again replaced clutch and i returned home. within 2 days of repair the vehicle started shuttering and when accelerating the vehicle wouldn't shift into any gear so i was stuck on the interstate going 40 mph in a 70 speed zone so i immediately pull over and call ford which tells me to bring it in on monday because there not open on saturday. i return vehicle to there disbelief that there is an issue because it has all the latest reflashes and clutches in vehicle but low and behold they inform me my transmission control module has failed and needs to be replaced. they replace tcm and send me home. yesterday probably 2 months after virtually every component has been replaced vehicle starts to shudder horrible probably the worst i've experienced to date so i take it to my dealership and they inform me i need another clutch!!! the vehicle has 48k miles on it i am sick of worrying about whether or not i can accelerate and merge into traffic without the vehicle getting rear ended because the clutches are slipping. something needs to be done. thank you *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. while attempting to park, the vehicle lunged forward. on a separate occasion, while idling at a traffic light, the vehicle hesitated when the accelerator pedal was depressed. the dealer stated that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 8,000.

On my 2013 ford focus st i have been experiencing a stalling issue while moving. car will stall when clutch is pressed while slowing down. ford has a tsb issued, but will not perform required work due to no code being present. the issue will come and go. upon browsing internet this is a known issue and many people have been told ford will not perform the fix. so there are numerous ford focus st on the road having this exact problem. it is affecting the current year as well. here is a link to a discussion on this topic http://www.focusst.org/forum/focus-st-maintenance/5514-your-car-randomly-stalling-idling-wierd-read.html as you can see it is pretty much more than 50% of cars sold seem like they will eventually have this issue. it's a matter of luck if it will throw a code. people have resorted to fixing it themselves. this is absurd. this issue needs to be made public since ford seems they are trying to save money by saying they need a code present. i brand new car should not be stalling while moving or any time you don't physically shut it off. it's creating a dangerous situation. *tt

Transmission/clutch problem. consistently grinds, lunges forward, sputters when taking off, turning & slowing down. it feels like the car is going to stall out. worst when it is hot outside. have been back to the dealer 3 times for the same problem! i have read the numerous complaints about this vehicle and it seems that i am not the only one that this problem is happening to . it all started 6 months after i bought the vehicle 4/2013.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact stated while driving approximately 20 mph, the transmission slipped without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis, who advised the contact that the transmission would need to be replaced. the transmission was replaced. after the repairs, the failure still recurred. additionally, the check engine warning light illuminated sporadically. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer multiple times and the dealer was not able to diagnose the problem. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 26000.

Car stutters, stalls, jerks, whenever your under acceleration. in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears. it shakes, shimmies, and rattles horribly and is a hazard to turn in front of oncoming traffic, even when they are far away (it will bog down). ford says this car does this for the new dual clutch car. had it looked at many times and the last time they said its not bad enough to replace trans and they just keep reprogramming it. problem just keeps coming back. guess someone will have to get killed first in order to fix this isssue, and as from i can research, there are a lot of focus's with this problem. first and last ford i will own....

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. the contact was driving 55 mph when the vehicle decelerated without the brake pedal being depressed. the vehicle was taken to a dealer for inspection but no issues were found. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. the approximate failure was 15,000. updated 04/04/14*lj updated 04/11/2014 *js

Owned 2013 ford focus for 9 months when we noticed car was "shuddering" and "slipping " into gear when starting to accelerate. we were pulling onto a busy street and of course had to accelerate. it lugged and delayed shift into 2nd. this caused lower than expected acceleration and because we could not get up to speed in the time required almost got hit. took it in for problem in 2/2014 and they said it was a transmission leak ( at only 5200 miles!). fixed leak and sent us home. the same problem became noticeable again. we took it 6 months later (8/2014). mileage was 9247. they said a part of the clutch was broken now and replaced the clutch assembly. the 3rd repair was in 4/2015 where they reprogrammed the pcm-tcm and sent us home. it is currently back at ford service so 7/2015 with 16000 miles with the same problem. they said ford is constantly working on a new clutch to fix the problem. they will most likely replace it but "it is not guaranteed to work!" ford did extend the warranties on the vehicle to 100k for power train. which does is little good if we have to bring it in every 4-6 months! also we said we needed a rental for the time it was in the shop (we need a car!) and they said ford just came up with the policy of 2 day rentals - only. it's been on the shop for 3 days already and we have to wait until the last 2 days of repair when we will "desperately " need the rental. unbelievable. they said this is what ford is "doing for us" in regards to this repair issue. like we are supposed to take it and like it.

On friday 2/14/2014 @ 1100, i was driving on interstate 5 south, when my car, without lifting foot from the gas pedal, suddenly lost power going from 65mph to 30 mph, in a matter of seconds. a low swoosh sound from motor occurred at same time. i had to exit the freeway at sea world drive exit from the far freeway lane, making for a very dangerous situation. i am very glad i was not rear-ended as i exited the freeway. after exiting the freeway and pulled to the shoulder and stopped the car. .after 5 minutes the engine went back to normal and ran like nothing had occurred. i took it to the mossy ford dealership the same day (service number r020298788). they kept it overnight. they could not replicate incident and told me they had no idea what had happened. they told me to wait until it happens again, and to bring it in again. this is an unacceptable response from ford dealership. on 2/25/2014, i took it into tune crafters to see if they could find out what was going on with my new car. they could not replicate the issue, but did note in writing the throttle is not as responsive on take-off acceleration, and there is a brief hesitation in the transmission shift and throttle. i am filing a formal complaint with ford motor company today. i do not feel safe driving my new car anymore. thank you, nellie downie

I purchased a ford focus in may 2013 brand new from a dealership. for the first 6-8 months the car drove fine. starting in january 2014 i noticed my transmission was grinding through out each gear which is odd because i drive an automatic. i have taken it in four times for repairs covered in my 36000 mile warranty and the problem still persists. the car will vibrate and shudder and jerk when i'm accelerating as well as the persistent grinding. the grinding sounds as if someone put gravel rocks in my transmission. i have searched in online forums and youtube videos and found that there are thousands of other people complaining about the exact same problems and that their local dealerships have also been unable to repair them properly. i don't feel safe driving my car when the transmission feels as if it could go out at any second. a few others have already been able to lemon law their vehicle do to these problems. if it cant be resolved i wont be purchasing from ford again in the future. my current mileage is at 14,000 and the problems are still occurring. *js

Transmission hesitation and shuddering on acceleration to merge into traffic on i95, vehicle failed to continue to accelerate forcing me to pull of the road to prevent being hit by semi truck that was coming up behind me. this and similar incidents have happened several times since i purchased the car i have taken the vehicle in for service 3 times since then each time told it operates within specifications but they reset the control module and flash the software give it back and it operates fine for several weeks. it is now in for the 4th time and they finally are replacing parts but i feel this vehicle is unsafe and have seen where others are having similar issues yet no one has done nothing.

Vehicle has bad issues with the transmission shutters lurches and bucks. ford will only warranty transmission slippage below 30% throttle any slippage above 30% is not covered by any warranty. this is safety hazard when pulling into traffic. and does not make for a very nice to drive car. no other ford transmission has that poor of standard. slippage less than 250 rpm [per event] or over 31% throttle is still a broke car but ford wont fix it.

I was driving on the highway at midnight 2/8/2014 at about 75mph when my car started to become stiff in the steering and lost speed rapidly. i down shifted from 5th gear to 4th gear the car would not accelerate even with my foot pressed all the way down on the accelerator, i shifted down to 3rd because of the sudden loss of speed and still nothing the cars rpms would go higher but the speed would not change. this nearly caused me to have an accident so i exited the highway and shut the vehicle off. once the vehicle was shut off and turned back on the problem went away, i contacted ford brought it in to their service center and they could not replicate this problem and suggested i continue to drive the vehicle until it happens again. *tr

While driving, the transmission shifted itself to neutral. it did this a number of times. this is dangerous because i could have been hit in the rear end when the car slowed down. apparently, it was a faulty computer code. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford focus. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle hesitated or jerked before accelerating. it was diagnosed that the clutch and seals needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired on numerous occasions, but the failure persisted. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 19,366.

The transmission in my car is jumping. i only have 17,000 miles on it. when i took it to my dealer he said it is bad and always was since i bought it. i do not drive it much so it is out of warrentiy. he said ford knew about it when they sold it to me. i can not afford to have a new transmission put in. i think it is their responsibly. i am scared to drive it. i saw on the nighty news their is a problem. please help check into this. i believe they are responseable for paying to have this fixed. i am a senior citizen and on a fixed income. thank you.

Vehicles transmission bucking losing power slipping also stalling out this car is very unsafe i've had it to the dealership many times still no fix
