Problems with 2013 Ford Focus UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2013 Ford Focus starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 62 126 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2013 Ford Focus

I try turning on my car it does not start. it turns on but doesn't fully power up. i've heard many people have this problem with this car as well

While driving the car stereo starting to pop and having static sound. the pop sound is very loud and always unexpected. while driving the pops sound can makes you turn the driving steering wheel to a side.

Loud crackling/popping/static sound comes from radio at random intervals, radio then stops producing sound, have to turn the car off, open & shut door, then turn car back on then radio starts working again. safety concern is the loudness of the sound coming at random times is startling and can cause an involuntary jerk/jump. numerous people have had the same issue- one example is this forum: http://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/car-audio-sync-myford-touch-electronics/358625-crackling-radio-problem-my-2012-sel-38.html. i have video of the issue, which i cannot upload, but type ford radio issue into youtube and you'll find lots of examples.

Vehicle has manual/auto trasmission and manual transmission no longer works. when in auto, the car hesitates with acceleration, before jolting forward and has stalled on several occasions. has happened several times before.

I noticed that my car was shuttering while up shifting at slow speeds in traffic during the last week. now the transmission fault light is on and it has difficulty shifting into high gear. i read online that ford extended it's warranty on this model for this specific problem but when i called the service center they told me that it is a specific warranty and they i might not qualify or be coverd and that he would have to look at the vehicle. the internet is full of 2013 ford focus's with this specific problem. i need to find out if this qualifies because i need this car for work and cannot afford $2000 to fix a faulty ford transmission. i know that this letter may be premature but i'm worried about transportation to work and lack of money to fix this car which is financed.

2013 ford focus audio system does not function properly. cracks and pop at extreme volumes even when system volume is fully turned down and/or off. issue occurs even prior to vehicle being started, doesn't matter if car is running, driving, at a stop, in park, etc. happens all the time. extremely dangerous situation for driver as the sound is a similar volume to someone setting off fireworks in the car. this will cause accidents for drivers if it is not corrected. ford claims this is not a widespread issue but a simple google search of "ford focus audio issues" brings up many results proving otherwise. needs to be a recall. happens every time i drive the car, began about 3 months ago and has only continued to get worse and happen more often. audio system is not old enough to where i should be required to replace. under normal circumstances an audio system should last as long as the life of the car, not four years. ridiculous and dangerous, please correct.

I have a check engine light that is on found out its a evap leak gas gauge not working ran out of gas can not put gas on gas tank with a gas can if i try it pours out the bottom when i start vehicle it shudders and wants to die out on me lack of power when i press on the gas pedal and ticking sound in engine also door latch on passenger back door does not unlock unless i push the button unlock 2 or 3 times

While driving and pressing the gas the car will do a lot of jerking this continues to happen whenever i press on the gas to go faster(speed limit). it doesn't pick up the speed like it should and this been happening for at least a couple of months. this is driving in the city and highways.

This vehicle has had a shutter and poor initial acceleration. the clutch has been replaced twice and tcm once while in my ownership. i was just told that because i am now over 100, 000 miles the clutch is no longer covered under warranty but the tcm is. i have had several incidents where the car lost all acceleration abilities while driving on a busy highway or simply fail to accelerate and a traffic light causing major delays for anyone around me. it has been a saftey concern for years due to the unpredictability of the transmission intermittently not allowing acceleration.

The driver side door latch will not engage leaving the door open at all times.

Car latch on ford focus2013 wont let car door close. i left the store and noticed that the air was coming into the car as if a window was open. when i got home my door would not close.

Transmission stop working in middle of busy intersection during rush hour. i was turning left, car was stationary waiting for traffic to pass. thankful i think it quit in neutral although dashboard was black & gear shift would not lock into any gear; could be pushed into corner business parking lot. it was fixed but never completely better nor did i feel completely safe. i had 2 clutch replacements, which were also fixed & paid by them. ford dealer replace some recall on side doors, but never fixed the recall on fuel tank, never informed that they ever got part in as letter stated.

Moon/sunroof shattered while driving- no vehicles, rocks or other obstructions were near

While driving a loud static and popping noise started happening coming from the speakers. it startled me and i had to pull over on the highway because it was so loud and hurt my ears and my child's ears. when i pulled over i pushed the button to turn off the radio but the noise kept on going. i then turned the car off and it was still making the loud noises. we got out the car because it was very loud and over whelming and waited until it stopped. when we got back in and i started the car up the radio seem to be fine. i was wrong. it happen again this time i turned the car off and had to open the door and when i started it back up it was fine. the radio kept doing this and the loud noises are very scary and could cause some one to be startled while driving and cause an accident or for those of us that may have someone with a disability like autism that loud noises can have a negative affect / reaction on is not healthy. there are several videos on the internet that will show this is happening to several people and ford isn't doing anything but forcing us to pay to have the whole head unit replaced and we cant afford that. they should consider this a safety issue as loud as the static and popping gets plus it keeps going even after the car is off. i called the dealership and the place where i got my car to see what can be done and they say i have to pay for it to be replaced and i dont have money to pay for the diagnostic and deductible to have it fixed.

This car experiences sudden loss of power leading to the inability to accelerate or even move the vehicle for varying lengths of time. this is left me stranded in dangerous situations three times. twice i was in traffic (coming off the i-95 north and needing to merge my exit, then when stopped at a red light in a left turn lane) . most recently the vehicle would not start up after being in a parked. in the latter episode jump-starts did not help. while the dash lights eventually came on, and the windshield wipers were able to move one to two times and then died, the engine simply would not turn over. initial evaluations by the dealer for an engine light gave an "overspeed code" which was not relevant to driving conditions.

Car was sold to me from drive time, i went back and forth with for service many of times with slipping transmission issues. i had to do a repossession on the car do to ford not wanting to buy it back i have documentation of all this.

Over the past 1 + years my radio would randomly make a hissing and cracking sound followed by a loud pop and stop working. both the radio and blue tooth capabilities were disabled. restarting the car would solve the problem. i have tried several times to update the sync/radio, but have not been successful. as per the ford sync web site, i used well above the minimums storage (2gb) and had a properly formatted usb device, but the vehicle would not recognize the device for an update. yesterday the radio completely stopped working and would continue to hiss and crack, even with the car turned off and keys out of the ignition. i have tried to reset the radio, but it is still not functioning and have no blue tooth capability.

Clutch kit replacements, electronic transmission module replacements (three times), after all this i still have a car that shudders the engine light comes on and off. i took it to auto zone they put there machine that tells you what is wrong with it on and the error code is p090c which is the clutch position circuit. i put in gear to go after backing up but it wouldn't move until i put in gear s. i took it to eby ford goshen in to have it fixed.

Power steering going out with no warning. it was stationary at the time.i stopped for coffee on any to work. after turning it off and restarting it several times it returned to normal. when i took it in to have it checked. i was told nothing wrong. this has happened several times since the first occurance. always stationary and or at a red light. i have taken it in and same result.it needs to be brought in when the problem acures. the steering is electric therefore the need for fluid isn't a fix or cure. when this happens it's not impossible to control but very difficult to do so. this is a can be a dangerous problem when on a hwy going 65 or 70 mph. in closing let me state that i am still waiting for the last recall to be fixed. i received a letter over 2 years ago. received one call from akins ford letting me know they were short on parts and they haven't come across any problems with any that were fixed and i would be called when a opening was available for my vehicle to be fixed. to date no calls from them when i called to asked about it the person or persons handling the recall doesn't reach out to me on this issue.

Vehicle shudders when accelerating after a complete stop. i took it to the dealership and they replaced the clutch. i am still having the issue. the shuddering happens everyday.

The ford focus hatchback that i purchased from auffenberg dealer group, 1708 new car drive, o'fallon , illinois on december 13, 2016 constantly jerks when i accelerate. the car does not accelerate properly, as if it is not getting enough gas. (strangely, i did not sense this while test driving the vehicle. during the test drive on december 13, 2016, i did mention to the sales person that i heard a sound coming from the car that sparked my concern but was told he heard nothing. there's something wrong with the reaction of the wheels on the car when acceleration is slowed. my greatest concern is the car acts as if it will stop in traffic. this can prove dangerous to me and other motorists. no one mentioned or discussed with me on december 13, 2016 these problems although i've since seen a paper lacking my signature concerning the same. the car indicate a danger while in motion to me and other motorists.

I have had my pre-owned vehicle for 1 1/2 years and have had continuous issues with my trunk popping open randomly. it opens anywhere and at random times. i've had it open while driving down the interstate, which is a huge safety hazard, potentially having things from trunk fly out and hit another motorist. it has been looked at twice by baxter ford in omaha, ne. they can never seem to find the issue or have it "duplicate" on their time. this definitely sounds like a manufacturer defect. *tr

The powershift transmission contains one or more design and/or manufacturing defects that cause problems and unsafe conditions, including, but not limited to, suddenly lurching forward, delayed acceleration, and sudden loss of forward propulsion. the transmission has a very sluggish shift between the first and second gears and the upshift bogs down like the vehicle might stall and erratically shifting in second and third gear as well, continue to experience transmission defect, including, but not limited to, bucking, kicking, jerking, harsh engagement, and delayed acceleration and lurching. this is a serious matter that needs to be addressed before this defect causes fatalities.

Problem with the transmission has a very delayed shift from 1st gear to 2nd gear and it is an automatic. can hear the gears slip and grind when trying to change lower gears ... especially going up any type of hill.could cause a wreck when pulling off a side street to main road or when going up a hill it can't almost feel like the engine is going to drop out the bottom of the car and the car to rolling backwards.

Side door latching (safety recall) still not repaired. i have been to the dealer for two times already since oct 2016 but they only say that parts are not available.

The door no longer latched, they refused to fix if for 3 weeks. then finally fixed it, when i went my seat belt also stopped latching and they refused to fix it, both driver and passenger seat belt stopped latching. they will not fix until in becomes and actual recall. i see many complaints about this.

One dec 24 2015 driving down the freeway my car had full loss of steering, the engine light came on, the pedals stopped working and i nearly crashed the car. after pulling off the freeway i turned the car off and it would not start back up. moments later i could start the car, i ran a vehicle health report to prove to ford that something had happened. i then drove my car which was stuck in 1st gear to my destination. the steering was very heavy, the pedals were not working well at all. after leaving it parked for 30 minutes i turned the car on and the check engine illuminated, but the problems had cleared. this feature is very deceiving, as some may assume the car is now safe. i took the car in for repair, and they simply reprogrammed the car. i continue to this day to have transmission issues, and have had the clutch only replaced one time dispite bringing it to them constantly for repair. in january of this year my cars clutch and transmission failed, the car seemed to make a loud acceleration noise and then become forced into 1st gear. this made steering heavy or hard, & the pedals not work with the usual weight on them. i drove my car to ford like this, stuck in 1st to show them finally that the whole time i knew something was wrong. my various other complaints of this vehicle include regular acceleration between 1st and 2nd gear, there is the standard shudder. in addition, my visiting family became stuck in the back seat with indoor latches not working - the child locks were off. i feel as though i was sold a "dud" car & that the salesperson lied to me about the transmission. if i had known it was an "electronically controlled manual car" i would not have purchased it. now i can't get my car appraised, no dealer is willing to buy this car form me. kbb states my current value is at around $9000 and 12 months ago i paid $16000, close to $17000 including financing

Many problems with this ford focus.1st problem i had was a year after i bought the vehicle the fuel pump was leaking.i notice because my car was parked and it smelled like gasoline inside the vehicle.2nd incident happened a year later. i was driving home from work when car just shut off on the road. i was so scared.i was in notion barely move to the side of the road on rt 50.that was so scary i could have died.i had to tow the car to get serviced at sheehy ford. they gave me the car back again and it happened again on the road on my way to work. at that time i towed it again but to koons falls church.looked at the vehicle and didn't find anything either until i got upset and they told me to go for a test drive with the mechanic and it happened while on the test drive. the mechanic stated to keep the car running so he can plug in the machine that reads the problems on the vehicle. he also stated that once you turn of the car and you turn it back on that it would reset it self and that's why they didn't know that tcm or tmc control needed to be replaced. this was very scary for me.now for the passed 3 weeks i have been dealing with a static /popping noise /sound that comes from the vehicle when i'm driving & when the vehicle is parked, the key is out the ignition.i took it to sheehy since that's where i bought the vehicle. they provide the worst service on the vehicle. bcuz they had my car for 4 days and didn't provide me with a loaner and had the audacity to tell me that the master tech was on vacation and i would have to wait still with no loaner vehicle.the radio is completely off and they want me to pay out of pocket to fix it.it has just given me problem after problem is manufactured problems.i had so many safety issues that scared me.car shutting off on the road and now making loud popping/ static noise where i thought i might be electrocuted.

There's nothing wrong with my vehicle. my vehicle has never been driven by anyone but me. no one has ever been hurt or injured in my car. any reports like the one that on your site under vin#[xxx] is false, and should be investigated *search of complaint database on april 24, 2017, shows that this is the only complaint filed on that vin*smch information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr

Moon-roof exploded outward from fully closed position, traveling on i-5 n, 4:42pm sat 8/20/16 at dupont wa. glass exploded outward and glass debris was witnessed exiting out and away from the roof through the rear view mirror. there were no vehicles in front that could have caused any road debris to cause an impact or chip or ding.

Rear door latch and locking system fails to latch or lock doors. safety issue and cannot be driven due to doors not latching shut rear doors flying open.

Driver's side door latch, cannot shut door, had to hold it driving to the dealership. huge liability exposure. i understand there have been numerous safety recalls, but was told by service this vehicle not one of them? excuse me, this is absolutely a safety issue. i have had several vehicles over the years, and never had this problem. vehicle was bought certified used, we purchased best warranty, but this and a few other items not cover. i am appalled that something i consider a safety issue would not be covered. i work in the insurance industry as an adjuster. they want to charge us $482.00 . . .

Since the first week of purchase the car has had trans failure. it has been in and out of the shop at least 4-5 times for repairs with no avail.. the transmission shudders, makes loud grinding noises, stalls, loses power then violently jerks when accelerating. because of this many times i have narrowly missed hitting other cars causing an accident. i drive everyday with fear and anxiety, this car is downright dangerous. to top things off, suddenly, my rear drivers side door will not stay shut,. it appears that the latch is broken even though i rarely if at all open or close this door. there are so many issues with this car. ford should be ashamed for this atrocity they brought upon their customers.

The transmisson studers, grind, lags, and is unsafe. the car has done the sence ive had it and its been to the shop and was told to drive it and it will get better with time and guess what it gets worst. heading to the dealer to let them look at the ford focus again wednesday. i already know what im going to be told about the transmission but i cant help but thing how can ford get away with selling a automobile to the public that has all of the issues that are unsafe and can get people that are or where ford lovers hurt or even worst killed. ford should atleast do a buy back for a poor product like some of there competitors have.

When accelerating from first to second gear the car will shudder like it wants to stall. it seems to happen the most when there is any kind of extra weight in the car, when accelerating from a stop, and when going uphill. it will be fine for a while then all of a sudden it will do this every time i try to accelerate. the car only has 52,000 miles on it and definitely shouldn't have this kind of a problem

Driver side door latch broke and door opened up while driving. i was forced to drive the vehicle while holding my door shut and clutch shifting in order to get it to the dealership. the first dealership was unable to service it until august 25th 2016 (red mccombs ford west). so, i was forced to drive it 16 miles on the freeway to northside ford in san antonio. because it has exceeded the 36k mile warranty, the repair bill is quoted at just under $700 because the "door latch mechanism failed" and needs to be replaced. i'm blessed this did not happen while turning right or had it been the rear passenger door with a child. i've read many reports about failed door latches with ford and not sure why this isn't being recalled and why ford isn't willing to put the safety of their customers first. not to mention $700 to replace a faulty door latch which put me at risk for a major injury. i hope no one is seriously injured until a recall is finally honored. i feel like a grave injustice has occurred with ford's unwillingness to put myself and others' safety first. the vehicle is currently at the shop waiting on parts and them to be installed. i will have a statement once i retrieve my car.

Transmission is slipping really bad and gets up to 3,000-4,000 rpms then jerks really hard.

I was taking a turn in my ford focus about 35 mph in a residential area and the door flew open. i pulled over to make sure there was nothing in the door to prevent it form staying closed, i found nothing. i started to drive again and had to drive holding my passenger door closed. i brought it immediately to my local ford dealership and was charged repair for the door latch through my extended warranty.

My vehicle has an issue with the transmission/clutch that is a known fact to ford! it's been fixed twice but still having issues! when i called they told me no longer under warranty and would not fix again! the car hestitates when u excellerate which is very dangerous especially when merging onto a highway. i am at a loss it has low mileage but worth nothing. do you have any solutions for this problem? do you know if ford are going to fix these defective vehicles? your help is greatly appreciated!!!!

I returned home from work and parked in my driveway. i exited the vehicle and attempted to close the drivers door. it would not stay shut, i examined the door to look for an obstruction and found none. the door latch would not engage to keep the door shut. i tied a rope between the two front door handles so i could drive the vehicle to the dealership to check on getting it repaired under my extended warranty. the service writer told me that he's seen plenty of these instances of the door latch breaking and not staying closed and that it is not covered under the extended warranty. i was told it would cost around $500 to fix. i asked if they have upgraded or redesigned the part because of all of the issues he said people are having with the door latches and he told me that the part number has not changed so it is probably the same.

Drivers side rear door suddenly opened while driving and now will not latch. grand daughters car set flew out of car - luckily she was not in it. apparently the is a common problem and so far no recall ford has other models which use teh same part number that have a recall if those exact parts are covered why not these?

Front driver side door opened while driving on residential street. "door ajar" error message displayed on instrument panel. door would not latch shut after trying to close it.

While driving and making a left turn the drivers door opened. my son tried to re-shut the door and it would not secure.

2013 ford focus left rear passenger door opened suddenly during drive. will not stay shut and is in open unlocked position. may be related to child safety lock mechanism, as a child is often in backseat. currently tied shut so not to open. similar cars are under current recall for similar issue. also, dealership denied fixing problem issue, per ford.

I purchased this car septmeber of 2015 with 39,000 miles, just about two weeks ago this car has been acting crazy and it's dangerous. when i seemed to turn it on and put it in reverse it does not want to go just stay stuck. so then i turn it off to restart everything and it does not want to turn on. or sometimes it'll go reverse but then i shift it to drive and it stays stuck on drive. or sometimes as i'm driving in the highway the gears start to slow down on me. this is such a horrible experience and i know it's a recall on my car so i have an appointment july 6th to get it checked i hope they can get it fixed.

After 57,000 miles the clutch pedal assembly failed on my 2013 ford focus st. the actuator rod is plastic and it just snapped off. the factory replacement part has a metal actuator rod, so the company must know that the original part was defective. i could picture this causing a crash when the clutch doesn't operate properly. ford says that there is no recall on it at this time. seems like a pretty serious design flaw to me. with labor and parts it cost over $300 to repair. i have the defective part available for inspection.

On 6/2/16 i was driving down a city street in my 2013 ford focus and the drivers door flew open. after being inspected it was obvious that the door latch had broken. i feel that this is a huge issue and is very dangerous. i have heard from multiple others that this has happened to them as well

Drivers door latch just stopped working. the door will not stay closed and ford said they do not have a recall at this time. it is an estimated $700 for the repairs which i feel is outrageous since the car is only 3 years old. obviously there are multiple owners with the same issue.

Right drivers side door latch doesn't stay latched anymore. this is similar to the numerous complaints associated with this type of vehicle. this is clearly unasafe and needs to be recalled as this is not a normal wear and tear part.

Takata recall purchased car took to dealer a week after because the gear shift was making loud noise upon reverse in driveway two weeks later i head a loud pop and it broke according to the dealership they did not fix it now my lights won't turn off it says my trunk is open while it's closed and my driver door will not lock or stay closed and the car makes noises as if the key is in the ignition and it's not my door will not lock and my trunk will not open with the key.
