Problems with 2013 Ford Focus UNKNOWN OR OTHER

On average, the 2013 Ford Focus starts to “feel” problems with the UNKNOWN OR OTHER and its various aspects after 62 126 miles.

Recently reported UNKNOWN OR OTHER problems on 2013 Ford Focus

Vehicle has known issues thru ford. just had clutch assembly replaced was driving car monday it started shifting erratically my granddaughter was in car it lurched shudders. at ford dealer said it is some sort of transmission fork 1900.00 to fix vehicle has recalls but ford won't honor the transmission by certain dealers

I'm just having several issues with this car since i purchased it

When driving car and come to a stop, it splitters when accelerating. when fuel gets lower than half of a tank, the car loses power, sputters and engine makes a grinding noise. this happens only when driving uphill or from stopped position.

Car began to stall and completely shut down. while in drive, with my foot on brake at a red light a error code flashed on dash " transmission not in park" and then it shut off. car stalled 4 more times in a matter of a hour, twice while in park and car was just running. last time at a red light in drive . took 30-40 seconds to restart car, very unsafe.

The car has had several recalls and transmission problems since the day i got it. it has clutch issues that leaves me stalled stuck in gear in the middle of rush hour traffic. it has left me stuck in my garage and not being able to go in reverse for days at a time.

Several weeks ago, random, sudden thuds began to occur on what sounded like the roof of the car; sometimes a single thud, sometimes two or three. this was while the car was in motion; and not with the radio on. it happened daily, until this past weekend, throughout the evening on friday 10/11 and whenever driving on saturday 10/12 and sunday 10/13 (without the radio or cd player on) loud, sudden and prolonged sizzling and crackling/popping sounds would break out in what sounded like the dashboard(?) and doors? my granddaughter was witness to all of this, and we both were frightened by it each time it happened (a total of 20+ times?). i considered not driving the car at all, but have no other means of transportation and live in a somewhat rural area. it obviously is electrical in nature, and is a progession from the thuds that were initially happening several weeks ago. what on earth can be going on this car? again, it has nothing to do with the sound system, because it all happens when the radio hasn't even been turned on. i'm afraid that a wiring breakage has occurred somewhere and a fire could potentionally break out in the cab!

The car, is now , beginning to not start,. which i suppose that doesn't matter since the transmission is still completely out, i wish ford would fix it, or go ahead and allow me to collect on the settlement

I brought car to ford star because i feel shudder and also i received letter from ford about the recall of the transmission. after 3days they release the car and telling me that shudder and jerking are in normal limit. and the charge me for the labor of $195.because they say that it has no problem with the car.

It was sept. 16th, about 8:15pm. after getting off work, i got into my car and started it up. there came a sound and warning on the dash that a door was ajar. i tried my driver side door but that didn't effect the warnings. so, i got out, opened and then slam shut the passenger side door. when i got in the car, the warnings had stopped, so i backed out, then pulled forward to make a left turn onto garden grove blvd., a fairly busy street even at this later hour. with my blinker on and the way clear, i accelerated into the street for my left turn. i'd just gotten into the turn when the passenger door swung wide open! by dumb luck, just as the turn was finished, there was an entrance on the immediate right into a liquor store parking lot. after trying to securely close it half a dozen times, i took out a chunk of thick rope from the trunk and tied the door handle to the car seat headrest pole. wow, pretty scary. if someone would have been unbuckled and sitting there, they'd would definitely not have remained in the car.

My son(i am on car loan also) received a recall notice from ford for the purge valve. he took it to hopkins ford in elgin, il where we purchased vehicle. they did not replace the purge valve and did a flash pcm instead and 3 days later the check engine light came on for an evaporation leak-directly related to purge valve. i have contacted the owner of dealership, ford motor co. tony reinhart regional manager for il ford and no one has responded.

When i accelerate from a stop the car shutters/jerks. feels like strong tumble strips. also almost like wheels are locking and trying to grip. i have been scared at i intersections as with hesitation the car doesn't have much power. once it shifts (i have automatic) it's fine. doesn't happen every time either.

Sunday july 21st, i noticed the car was lurching erratically while driving no more than 35 mph and from stops. i really didn't think much about it, because the car has always driven like crap. on the 22nd, i noticed the engine light was on when i started the car. i took my chances and started to drive to work. it was a total lurch fest for the 3 miles i drove, and i decided to drive to my mother's house instead of driving on to work. i somehow managed to park it safely at her residence. i called for a tow to the dealership, sunset ford of st. louis. it is now sitting there awaiting diagnosis. the technician basically already informed me that he expects my repair to not be covered under warranty. i already had a major transmission overhaul 2 or 3 years ago, i think. that one was still covered under warranty. the car only has 43000 miles on it. this is the 5th time i have brought it in for this issue, i believe. also of note, i never received the follow up letter from the 18s32/18-v-735 nhtsa recall from ford notifying me that the parts were available for repair. the technician looked at me like i had 4 heads when i told him i never received the letter. i asked him if he had heard from anyone else that they had never gotten the letter. he said no. i don't believe him.

All recalls were corrected. my car currently has a light, when decoded it says it is the vaccum system and epa regulations. when has is put in the car, it stalls and struggles to start. to start it, gas pedal must be pushed first. if gas pedal is not pushed, call stalls for several minutes. it does not matter how low gas is when gas is put in the car, it stalls.

Dps6 transmission continuously causing problems to car from gears being skipped, takes a second for the car to get going when pressing gas then when it goes it's like a rocket blast. stuttering when idle. when traveling down the highway and you take your foot off the gas but then needing to step on the gas to go up hill, the car doesn't accelerate properly- its a delayed acceleration. when lightly pressing the gas the car stutters and you can hear the metal gears shifting. when recalls are fixed, it leads to me having to pay for other issues to be fixed (i.e. got fuel take recall fixed but paid $900 b/c of other damages caused from the defect- is what i was told). all of these issues have occurred since 2015 when the car was purchased used. ford put more effort in teaching their dealership personnel how to b.s. customers with false language of what issues are and not ever being honest. no one should be driving this death trap of a car.

My sterling get stuck and my transmission making noise and my car dont go into reverse

I purchased my brand new 2013 ford focus, from the dealer in may of 2013. i took it back a week later because it was "clunky" when accelerating. the ford dealership told me "the car just needs to learn how you drive, we will reset the computer". since then i have had it "reset" 4 times and am on my 3rd clutch repair. last week while braking my car decided to accelerate instead. this is the 4th time in a year, one resulting in a bumper on bumper accident with minimal damage. i dont feel safe driving my car, i commute two hours a day. ford should be ashamed of themselves! if the i had been told back in 2013 when i purchased that there was an issue i would have traded that car the first week.

Side door latch

Car would not start. jump started battery. dashboard reference transmission error. press ok to clear the message. shifted from park to reverse and the car would not move. shifted to drive and car would not move. the vehicle has been to the dealership for the intermediate shifting problems. ford refers to the shifting problem with transmission as a customer satisfaction program and not a recall. referencing 14m02 as the control module being the culprit and 14m01 as the transmission clutch being the cousin of the culprit. there are several posting indicating a lack of addressing the faulty issue when driving. we do not believe ford is taking an active role in identifying tractability of the components we understand there is a lawsuit for this particular problem.

Vehicle shudders violently at times from stop up to 10 mph. this seems to be an intermittent problem for over a year. but has become a problem as it loosened the heat shield. i had warranty work done in september of 2018 and they mentioned this should fix the problem but it hasn't.

For the past 3 years my ford focus 2013 has had the radio system go out almost every time i drive it. typically there would be a loud pop, then it wouldn't work until i restarted the car. this wasn't a big deal to me-- i don't mind driving without music. the past month it has gotten much worse. instead of just a loud pop, it will often make a crackling or screeching noise for up to a minute or two. this has happened both while i'm driving as well as when the car is not even on (most likely draining the battery, since the radio lights up when making the noise). today was especially concerning. i left my house to walk to my car, and could hear from my backyard (to the side of the driveway where it was parked) a loud screeching, popping, crackling noise. i walked up to my car and, sure enough, although it wasn't even unlocked, still had all the doors shut, and i hadn't even touched it, it was making these noises that could be heard from a distance. i got into my car, hoping starting it would help, but the noises continued. it was such a startling noise, i couldn't imagine driving with it going. i ended up going back inside to do some research on how to help it. when i came back out half an hour later it was still going. in my research i saw many other ford focus 2013 owners having similar issues. i realize this is considered a cosmetic issue, which i can understand since a radio isn't necessary. but now it has escalated to a continuous noise that can be heard outside of my car and goes even when it's not on-- i feel it is a safety issue. i ended up taking out the fuse #79 after reading other people who have done similarly, and checking with my owner's manual. i'm a bit concerned about doing this since that fuse also works with the hazard lights and the door locks. but with the sound still going, i knew i had to take the fuse out or couldn't drive my car to work.

My 2013 ford focus has an issue with a stuttering/shuddering type feeling. when i am stopped and then begin to try and accelerate is when the problem occurs. this has been very dangerous at times when i am entering traffic after being stopped. my car does not get to proper speed quickly enough.

The vehicle was bought used,it had a battery boil over issue, the battery has been replaced, the vehicle will not start.

For awhile my speakers would make a weird pop noise almost as if someone was disconnecting an aux cord and then the entire radio would stop working. the only way to make it work again would be to turn the car all the way off and then back on again. as time went on it got worse. it used to randomly make a really loud static like crackling noise no matter what the volume was at and id have to turn the radio off to fix it. even turning the car off wouldn't work anymore. now the screen is blank and the radio doesn't work at all. i can't turn the radio off or on and i can't recieve calls through sync anymore. this all happened regardless if my car was in motion or idling

I'm at the tail end of a buyback for multiple recall issues that seem to be unfixable. they had also replaced a week engine mount that is failing now they had to replace a safety recall for gas fuel. all of which in the past downtown ford in sacramento did for free and now they are trying to charge me $1300 to fix the recalls and repairs that they had done without my knowledge. since it was ordered to them by you guys. and now they are saying at future ford of sacramento off of madison avenue that they will not fix it for free and that they are going to try and take it out of my settlement when theyare scam artists and are charging me way more than any part needs to be. and i'm also being lied to by ford wrap who told me they were going to pay for the parts and they were also going to put me in a rental. all of which was a lie. i have lost hundreds of dollars in wages i've had a ton of pain and suffering from having to be lied to over and over again and thinking i am being helped when in fact all they're doing is trying to take my money and put me in a unsafe car that could've killed me or my loved ones multiple times because of their negligence and they are not being held liable

The car tends to shudder as it accelerates, sometimes more, sometimes less. there was a recall issued about 6 months ago for the car which might be related to this (nhtsa recall number 18v735), but there is still no available remedy for the problem, which seems like a problem in itself.

Transmission overheating light comes on, saying stop ssafely, wait 5 minutes, jerking from stop, shifting like a manual transmission, with a person who does not know how to use the clutch.. front end noise, very loud.took to dealer, was told nothing was wrong with it.

The radio/speakers will suddenly make a loud popping sound/crackling sound out of nowhere. the popping/crackling is often loud enough to where it startles the driver, which is a huge safety issue. this happens randomly so the driver cannot be prepared for the loud, startling noise. tsb issued for st model but not se. please help. there are hundreds if not thousands having this problem! please consider a recall. it is costing owners thousands of dollars to "diagnose" and sometimes get a fix. thank you.

Ford dealer in melbourne, florida refuses to perform recall work. took the car in--it failed inspection. the manager refused to order parts or work on the vehicle and told me the mechanic was on vacation. i went back again to have the other recall items worked on, the manager said it was still a "no go," and i'd have to wait two months to get my unsafe car looked at...

Studdering, shaking upon acceleration

Stereor issues - loud popping, crackling, white noise, high frequency that hurts you ears. the volume control does not help. this occurs randomly and it's so loud it is dangerous. the speakers can even make noise when the vehicle is off. there are numerous problems people have been reporting about this issue as well. occurs when vehicle is in motion, stationary and even turned off. visit this website where there are hundreds of people who have the same problem: https://www.focusfanatics.com/forum/car-audio-sync-myford-touch-electronics/546682-stereo-issues-loud-popping-crackling-white-noise-help.html

I bought the vehicle at 30,000 miles on it with a new transmission that ford had to replace due to the faulty original one the car came with. a year after buying the car off a ford dealership lot the transmission dies again at 70,000 miles. two transmissions needing replaced in this vehicle and ford won't pay to fix the transmission the second time. even after they discovered the cause of the transmission breaking down the second time due to a part missing. i've had the car a little over a year. ford is at fault and should pay to fix my car.

My car got on fire while it's was parked

The vehicle sound system, radio, is making a loud popping noise, even when the radio is off and the radio is not working. my mother, owner of the vehicle is 79. this loud popping noise, is startling, which causes her to panic, which in my opinion is a safety factor. i've read on the internet that this is happening to many ford models including hers. the ford dealer states it is $105 just for them to trouble shoot. i've read also on the internet that dealers fix one component of the sound system, which works for a little while, then the issue returns, only to replace another component and on and on. my 79 year old mother does not have that kind of money, and will be sucked dry, if this happens to her. so our delima is to not do anything because of money, and take the chance on her having an accident cause of the startleing effect, which turns into panic, and possible an accident. we feel this is a safety issue. and would appreciate a resolution. once again the popping noise comes from the radio system, the radio does not work and the sound happens when the radio is on or off. this issue has been going on for almost a month.

Six weeks ago, while my car was stationary and when my care was being turned on, my car trunk stopped opening. the key (full battery) will not open it, the interior car release will not open and the trunk latch will not open it. additionally, the warning light and beeping noise is constantly on when stationary and when driving, saying that the trunk is open. there is not way to fix . i've been told by the dealership that there is faulty wiring.

Battery charger over heated and melted charger causing damage to the charger unable to use and to my outlet.

Initially, once vehicle is started and radio is turned on, crackling sounds are heard across entire dash of car. radio stops working. some days radio works, other days long stretches of crackling and then radio stops. recently, radio does not work at all. when back door is opened, speaker in rear driver door crackles and sound is heard all the way to the front driver door and across dash to the radio. radio has stopped working altogether. cannot be turned off (appears to be on even though not working). events occurred over 2 week period. no difficulty with transmission, operation or dashboard. last event with crackling occurred as rear driver side door was opened to put items in back seat. car not running.

Hill start assist light unavailable light and skid light came on. car jolts in it's own direction all of a sudden. clutch problem also. car isn't driving properly or shifting in gears properly. driving car on street. when turning car wants to go in it's own direction. scary.

Faulty transmission. while driving the lights would come on that the transmission is overheating and the car would come to a halt. we took it in once to have it fixed and had to pay $1500 for them to replace parts in the transmission because they were not covered under the recall. our car still shudders. we have had nothing but trouble with this car which isn't even paid off yet.

My car is at the dealership for the second time since september 2018 due to the transmission recall. the car died while driving four times before i could get it home. i i had it towed to bill collins ford the next day. i was told in september the transmission was fixed yet the car never drove right. now the transmission and clutch need repair/replacing. they have had my car for one week and i have yet to be contacted by the dealership. these cars are not safe. someone is going to die as a result of these faulty transmissions.

Driving to work my door (driver) suddenly flew open while i was turning onto harrison dr. corner of patrick and could have caused an accident through the suddenness. i remember feeling unable to react or think of the right thing to do, as if in a panik. i have tried to get an appointment for repair but every ford and lincoln dealer here in las vegas nevada are hopelessly booked into the future for 2 weeks. i can't wait that long. the car is inoperable in this condition!

The vehicle- whether stationary, in motion, or driving- emits random loud cracks and pops from the speakers. even if my radio is turned off- the randomness of it is so scary that it is a driving hazard. i reached out to ford and they will not fix it.

Tougth direction.

At 38,500 miles radio would randomly make loud popping and static noises now a few months later the radio quit all together. fuses are good

Transmission shudder then driving on highway low oil light came on randomly happened before took to shop and said the rear main seal went out which caused oil to leak into transmission and making the clutch slip

The battery light came on while drive, but went off after turning the car off and on. the light came back off and on the next day, while driving home the next day, the light came on again and the car became really hard to turn. once i got the car home parked, the wheel completely locked up on me. now i receive the transmission fault error whenever the car is stared along with the battery light. i had the alternator replaced, but both issues still persist. anyone else has had this issue?

The check engine light came on and my car starts jerking and skidding and slowing down. i was scared and didn't know what to do because i had my daughter in the car. i called my technician and he said that a code came up on my car p087a. he said that the code has to do with the transmission, as the fault is a common fault with this type of transmission that ford started using in 2001. i'm trying to see if this vehicle is covered under warranty and if ford has a recall on this issue. the car has about 77k miles.

After filling up the tank with gas, the vehicle stutters and feels like it's jumping when i am at a stop light and start to go. the gas gauge goes up while i am driving and the vehicle runs out of gas randomly. i was parked at my house and it wouldn't crank when i ran out of gas the 1st time (about three weeks ago) and the 2nd time (6/6/2018), i was on the interstate and the vehicle died due to no gas, yet the gauge was not on empty. fortunately i was able to get off the side of the road and call roadside assistance. the vehicle is now at at ford service repair shop and i am waiting to hear from them but the service repairman said this is a common problem, that he had the same vehicle in the week before with this same issue. last friday, i had a customer service representative with a ford dealership tell me this is a common problem that occurs in this vehicle. obviously running out of gas randomly is very dangerous. there needs to be a recall on this immediately to save lives. ford needs to take responsibility for this manufacturing defect.

Auto stop working and sudenly shift off un highways with unknown rasons or cause. this is exprience at lease 2 or 3 times daily. several warning lights comes on. then you need to stop and restart. this is dangerous when it happens in highways.

The car is stalling and has a rough idle. within 2 weeks my car stalled and then shut down while driving 55 mph on the highway and would not restart or stay on once i got it pulled over to side of the road. i was lucky that there was no one directly behind me on the road otherwise it would have been a really bad disaster. gas mileage said i had over 100 miles to empty. paid to get it towed twice and when taken to the mechanic he turned it on (after 2 hours) and the car showed empty 0 miles/fuel. he put a few dollars in gas and it ran just fine. since then i cannot trust the fuel reading of mileage. ford dealer says there is no recall on fuel system but they are happy to do a diagnosis for over $100 and then they can tell me whats wrong with it. not an affordable solution at this time other than to put gas in it after i drive every 50 miles. south boston, va

My car smell like gas and after iput gas in the car im unable to start it. my front door its closing as if the latch has broken, but it looks ok
