Problems with 2012 Ford Focus FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM

On average, the 2012 Ford Focus starts to “feel” problems with the FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM and its various aspects after 84 331 miles.

Recently reported FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM problems on 2012 Ford Focus

Ford focus se 2012 [xxx] purchased 08/25/2011. since new, the vehicle shudder and shake because transmission problems. it was again on the dealer in may 2016 for 2 weeks, after having to wait 20 days for the parts to arrive, at pines ford in pembroke pines, fl. during this repair also, one of the engine mounts was found broke and the dealer and ford motor company refused to pay for the replacement and the labor, $ 250 dollars total. really? for an engine mount? the dealership service advisor referred to the engine mount as a "tear and wear" part. really? this is the first time in my life i have to replace an engine mount on a vehicle 65k miles old. what about all the shuddering and shaking to the engine and transmission component? since new, the car has been at the dealer in more than 8 occasions. in two of this occasions, it took at least 2 weeks to get the car back. the tcm has been replaced and reprogrammed several times, the clutch and or transmission in more than 2 occasions. the dealer service advisor has always tried to convince us that the shuddering and shaking is "normal" as he called. in two occasions the vehicle stall and refuse to come back to life until 30 minutes passed. during last month repair also a case was open with ford motor company on 4/28/2016 [xxx] was closed by [xxx] without our consent. case is still open and valid. car is a lemon, plain and simple. My car stalls constantly and while driving i have to put it in neutral and restart it. ford says it's a purge valve problem, with the gas tank being unable to relieve pressure (or allow air in) as gas is used. from what we've read online many many people are having the same problem. supposedly it's a $2,000 fix. i have stalled in an intersection before. it was scary.

Car dies on highway while driving. fuel system and sensors seems to be failing or fell apart inside the vehicle it will not show appropriate fuel levels. it stuttering after filling up to full tank. vehicle is very dangerous to drive on a highway to work when fuel system is failing. many complainst have been filed on other automitive websites and forums about this exact fuel system issue. collapsed fuel system / fuel guage i just purchased this car 3 weeks ago and my previous pontiac grand prix 2006 gave me less issues than this ford focus. something really wrong is here with ford, i think they have gotten to a massive point they believe they cannot be held responsible for there mistakes or recalls since they are too tied into the dependecy of all the people.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving approximately 45 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated and the vehicle lost acceleration. the vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the purge valve was malfunctioning and needed replacement. the contact also stated that the vehicle experienced this failure for about a year and half. the dealer had to replace the clutch under a recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

My check engine light came on coming home from work monday night and wensday i took the car to the dealership the dealership the next day and found out that the purge valve was malfunctioning and has collapsed my gas tank and i needed to replace the fuel pump, gas tank, fuel tube assembly. all cost $2000. the service tech stated there has been a lot of complaints about this and ford refuses to help

While driving my 2012 ford focus hatchback, the check engine light came on and the vehicle idled rough and the engine stopped working. restarted and took vehicle to dealer. dealer stated that the emissions control system had pulled a vacuum on the fuel tank causing raw fuel to enter the emissions control system and the engine causing the issues. the tank had to be replaced due to collapse and the evap tank, tubing, control valve and fuel pump. per ford tsb 11-09-03. shouldn't this be a recall?

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while making a left or right turn, the vehicle stalled. the check engine warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that purge valve not opening properly. as a result, the fuel pump, purge valve, purge tank needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v605000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 47,000.

I'm writing about a problem that i feel is a safety defect. my car started idling very erratically and the amber engine light is on. the dealer says that the vapor canister control solenoid failed, drawing a vacuum in the fuel tank which caused the fuel tank to collapse. it also filled the vapor canister with fuel. they say the raw fuel from the canister is being drawn into the engine causing the erratic idle. this is not only a problem with just my vehicle, but thousands of others who are having the same problem. it's beyond costly and through no fault of the owners, our cars are unsafe to drive!

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. after fuel was placed in the vehicle, it stalled. the contact mentioned that when there was less than half a tank of fuel in the vehicle, it would stall then too. in addition, the fuel gauge was inoperable and did not display the correct amount of fuel in the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to five star ford lincoln of warner robins (900 russell pkwy, warner robins, ga 31088, (478) 273-8151) where the contact was informed that the vehicle did not pass the test; therefore, it would not be repaired per the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 65,000.

My focus, as so many others has had transmission problems and the transmission control module has been replaced twice. but, today i'm writing about a new problem that i feel is a safety defect. my car started idling very erratically and the amber engine light is on. the dealer says that the vapor canister control solenoid failed, drawing a vacume in the fuel tank which caused the fuel tank to collapse. it also filled the vapor canister with fuel. they say the raw fuel from the canister is being drawn into the engine causing the erratic idle. i will admit that my vehicle has 124,000 miles on it and ford wouldn't offer any assistance with repairs so i am a little miffed. but, between the safety issue of the transmission failures and now the fuel system failure and collapsed fuel tank, i feel that this vehicle is a serious safety issue.........updated 12/17/15 *bf updated 6/14/18*jb

I purchased a ford focus may of 2014, with 30,000 miles on it. i had a factory warranty up to 60,000 miles on it. i am now at 62,000 miles on my car and the latch on my driver side door broke and my door flew open while driving on the freeway at 70 mph. if i were not wearing my seatbelt, i would have flown out of my car to my death! since then, i have had to bungie my front doors shut, leaving me no access to get in and out of my car safely, having to crawl in my backseat. i need this fixed asap and i am not paying to get it fixed with so many fords breaking down.

Purchased a 2012 ford focus in december of 2014. the transmission has had shifting issues almost the entire time that i have had the vehicle. in may, the transmission began stuttering at low speeds. when reaching speed on an interstate on-ramp, the vehicle showed the message "vehicle not in park" and shut off as i was pulling into traffic. a day later when driving it, it stuttered again and the check engine light came on. took it, along with a defective part notice to the dealer for the automatic transmission clutch system, which the dealer said was the issue and supposedly replaced it under the warranty. the dealer also reset the "autolearn" feature in the transmission. for a few days it worked fine, then the stuttering and shifting issues began again. on august 8th, 2015 the vehicle was driven to the store, and worked as it usually did, with minor stuttering and grinding that appears to characterize the ford transmission. it was parked for roughly 30 minutes while in the store, upon starting and putting the vehicle in reverse, the transmission would not turn or gain enough power to propel the car out of the parking space. as it rolled back, it was shifted into the drive position, the vehicle began to propel until it went to shift and the car "missed" the gear and stuttered losing all momentum. this continued from every start/stop. stopped at another store, when came back out the car would not start on the first crank, and the check engine light came back on. the power issues to the transmission on take off and the missing gears continued all the way to my home.

Car stalled and lost power while driving, was able to coast into a parking lot. car would not restart, and had it towed to the dealer. diagnosed and say the purge valve failed and that they need to replace fuel pump, and tank, for $2k.

Sudden loss of power. engine was revving up but transmission not engaging. it was as if i had shifted to neutral. i had to coast to a stop.

My husband was driving my car home from work and it began sputtering. luckily there was a residential road nearby and he turned off the business hwy and the car died. it wouldn't start and was acting like it had no gas even though it had over half a tank. it had to be towed. it has now been in the shop for 3 weeks waiting on a back-ordered fuel pressure sensor. it's only a few years old. this is the most frustrating thing!!! *tr

I had this car about four years i put a two new battery, new start, new radio, new radiator, thermostat the arms and rod replace now i got the steering assist fault going on in my car i get wired put money on to it !

On january 27th.. my car (2012 ford focus se 4door 5 speed) my car had 33,342 miles on it once it came into the service bay at asheville ford in asheville nc. i was advised that the car would have to stay for the day and look into the situation. car would die at random, lights would come on like a christmas tree (oil pressure light, battery light, traction light, esc light, information light, check engine light) and a message would appear (engine malfunction service now). asheville ford was also notified of a sun visor popping, seat belts not releasing and creaking noises in the b pillars on both sides, and the ac was blowing hot air again (this was repaired on the 23rd before and already blowing hot air). *tr

My 2012 ford focus sel has turned off completely while driving multiple times on the highway and freeway, i have been stranded multiple times during the day and night due to it shutting off randomly. i have been stranded in parking lots multiple times due to the car not allowing me to go in reverse. i have replaced the car battery multiple times! my gas cap has popped off while putting in gas, i have faulty windshield nozzles washing system no longer spray water, i have a faulty back light i have replaced the bulbs multiple times every few months. the heating and air conditioner will sometimes work. the color lighting in the car no longer works, on the sun visor the mirror cover has popped off on its own. the cause of all these problems are unknown i believe the car was entirely built poorly with no thought process what so ever. i have never driven a car with so many problems let alone such a dangerous deadly car. these issues continue till this day and i am still stuck paying for a car that is completely not worth my money or my life.

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning and the check engine indicator illuminated prior to the stalling. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the purge valve needed to be replaced, but was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 52,000.

I have a 2012 ford focus. only a year after buying this car i began to notice issues with shifting while driving and even complained about transmission issues to my dealer. i was told this was "normal operating condition". before the implementation of the fors customer service program happened, there was a minor recall to reduce instances of rolling back on hills. i took my car in to have that fixed only to have more intense issues surface later. my car has been in the shop for diagnostics more times than i can count with no real results on the transmission. in october of 2014 -2.5 years after purchasing a brand new car. my transmission officially failed as i tried to merge onto the highway. ford issued a not-quite-recall announcement, and i took my ford in to get the repair service done with 51,095 miles on the vehicle. i had transmission components (seals and clutch) replaced exactly as was instructed by ford motor company. 10,000 miles later, in april 2015, i began experiencing the beginnings of the same issue again. it would seem that whatever ford corporate claims is the issue is not the case or that the fix ford corporate isn't an actual fix. more than this, i've been instructed to do the same replacement process when ford confirmed that the same issue was happening and the same outcomes were imminent. i ordered the parts on 4/16 because they were on back order and not available. 2 months later, the parts needed to do this are still not available. i'm lucky that my highway merge stall-out didn't end poorly the last time but not knowing whether accelerating is possible or when your transmission will fail is scary. the fact that this is happening at 60,000 miles is inexcusable and unsafe. this "program" allows ford to avoid fixing the issue and leaves consumers in an unsafe, unreliable and financially draining situation.

On sept 8 2014 i was driving home from work and once i got off the highway i noticed that my car was slowing down and the battery and oil light was on the next thing i knew my car shut off i restarted it and took it to the dealership ( since it is still under warranty ) to get it checked out. the service dept told me that it was the fuel pump and they were ordering the part but that was a lie not only did they not fix the problem it has gotten worse the car runs out of gas even though there is gas in the car it shuts off at slow speeds and the dealership basically told me that a 2 1/2 year car is covered under warranty and told me its going to be 2000.00 to fix it!! but on the bright side if ford recalls the part then i could get reimbursed really!! *tr

Feels as if the car is going to stall while slowing down. after taking off after a complete stop it shifts hard or shakes and sometimes makes a grinding noise. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was unknown.

Beginning in april, the car has randomly broken down several times, with no notice, putting my safety and life in danger. cars had to come to a jolting stop to avoid from hitting me and on one occasion a police officer actually had to intervene to safeguard me from oncoming traffic. please see the sequence of events below. ofriday, april 12th-car broke down in a major intersection during rush hour traffic endangering my life and the other drivers around me. cars were zooming pass at high speeds and braking abruptly to avoid crashing into me. owednesday, july 2nd-car suddenly decelerated while i was driving across a bridge. once again my life was endangered. i tried to get the car to accelerate with rapidly pushing down on the gas pedal, but nothing happened. the car eventually came to a stop and i was forced to turn the car off while still in the middle of the street and restart it. after getting the car started i drove it back to the dealership hoping they could resolve the issue. unfortunately, the mechanic was unable to find anything through the diagnostic reading or multiple test drives. omonday, july 7th-car began to decelerate while driving on a busy street. i immediately pulled over to turn the car off. when i was able to start the car again i drove it to carmax. on the way there i had to drive the car at a slow speed to prevent the car from cutting off on me again. also, since the ac seemed to worsen the acceleration of the car i turned it off and drove the car for 15 minutes in the searing heat. in the end the car was with the ford dealer from friday, july 7th to tuesday, july 22nd. ofriday, july 25th- car broke down in middle lane of highway 64e right before entering the hampton roads bridge tunnel. cars swerved to prevent from hitting me and once again my life and the lives of others was put in jeopardy. *js

I got my car started and pulled out of the parking space i was in and parallel with the street i was planning on pulling out into when the engine cut out on me. fortunately i had not pulled into the street as i had planned when the engine quit on me. i kept trying to start the car and it seemed like the car would be about to start with just another second or two more as the starter was turning. the fuel gauge kept lighting up along with other lights though i had 3/4 of a tank of gas. i had to have the car towed friday evening to the dealership and after they had my car for 4 whole working days, at about 11 am on the following friday they finally figured out what was wrong with my car. i have a platinum warranty and at roughly 43,000 miles the dealership is going to charge me nearly $1700 for fuel filter, fuel pump and emissions in addition to the rental car i've been paying out of my pocket while they figure out what is wrong with the car, order parts, (the parts to take 3 days) and fix the car. i think this is very unreasonable for a car of so low mileage and could have gotten me injured or killed if i had pulled out into the street and the light changed when the car quit on me. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the service engine light illuminated continuously on the instrument panel and the fuel gauge became erratic. the failure occurred previously and the dealer replaced the evaporator canister purge valve but the failure recurred. the vehicle was recently taken to the dealer, who indicated that the fuel tank and valve would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 48,000.

Spiders or insects block the vents from the gas tank making it almost impossible to fill my gas tank. i bought the car in the summer of 2012 and it happened in the fall of 2012 and the fall of 2013. *tr

I have a ford focus bev ( battery electric vehicle), 2012. i came out from work and unplugged my car from the charging post and got into it as usual to go home. i pressed the start button and a mechanical warning window came up on the dash. i closed it and the "stop safely now" message came on. i closed it and the first message came back again. this went on for several cycles until i hit the start button again. i tried the start button again, and the same thing happened. i plugged it back in, unplugged it and tried again. same thing. i called the dealer, the lady there called roadside assistance for me. they sent a truck to tow it to a closer dealer, where it currently sits. initial diagnostics are not showing a cause. i will learn more on monday. this is apparently a common problem according to the internet. *tr

The transmission in our focus stutters and grinds when shifting from 1st gear to 2nd. *tr

While driving approx 30 miles per hour on a b road, just after turning right the car displayed a "stop safely now" warning and the car lost all power to the drive train and the car literally stopped moving. luckily, there was no one behind me when the fault occurred. i power cycled the car and i was able to drive away after a few minutes. i have never had an issue with the car until last night.

As i was driving all of a sudden a display stating "stop safely now" came on. i pulled over and the car would not go any further. i had to completely turn it off, open and close the door, and restart it to make it go again. it has happened 3 times now in the past few weeks. *tr

Was sitting at a stop light after leaving work and the "stop safely now" message appeared. car would not move. after several cycles of turning the car on and off, opening and closing the driver door, locking and unlocking the car, it managed to reset itself and work again, only to have the problem recur about 5 minutes later, requiring the same steps to resolve the issue. the car worked normally the rest of the day after i arrived at my destination. *tr

While driving through uptown charlotte, the car gave a "stop safely now" alert and the car lost power. it coasted enough to roll to the right lane and then died. i could not get the warning flashers to work. i tried for about 7 minutes to get the car to turn off, every combination i knew. after that, the car 'reset' and i was able to get it to start. i drove away as if nothing happened. it hasn't happened since. it's not cool to have the car quit in traffic like that. i think the battery control computer picked up a radio frequency interference. *tr

Issue 1: the vehicle is on its third clutch in the 2 years since purchase and continues to have transmission issues. when applying gas it stutters, lurches, or responds as if not taking gas. this week: three times turning from stop sign left, right from stop sign, and right from parking lot. apply gas to accelerate and vehicles stutters, pauses, and stalls for a moment. two of the three, particularly one came close to resulting in an accident. this also occurred on a busy highway turning right at a stop sign on oct 27. it has occurred dozens of times prior to the transmission repair events and now is starting to recur, with more ng a stalling/lurching than a stuttering. ford is fully aware of these issues. i am taking it in for repairs again but feel it is unsafe and want the car returned. issue 2: the vehicle achieves far below the advertised mpg. they advertise 27 and it gains 22.5 at best. currently less than 22. ford is fully aware of this issue and states that they cannot do anything. i have been complaining for 18 months or more. *tr

Upon making a left turn vehicle completely powered down with no warning, after a second an audible beep and "stop safely now" message appeared. vehicle had to be towed to dealership. *tr

Incidence occurred twice in 2 day period. "stop safely now" error occurred while driving the vehicle. 1st instance was while breaking as approaching a stoplight. 2nd instance was while accelerating on freeway onramp. both instances i lost all engine power and could no longer accelerate. i had to coast to a safe spot to put the car into park and turn off the vehicle but was able to restart it and drive to dealership for repair. serious safety concern with this vehicle as driver may not have ability to coast to safe stop while driving on freeway or busy traffic. after researching online, there is rampant occurrence of this exact failure being described on vehicle owner forums for ford focus electric both 2012 and 2013 models. *tr

I purchased a new 2012 ford focus ev on june 7, 2013. twice (still in june), while driving at speeds approximately 50 mph, the "stop safely now" warning came on and the vehicle lost power. both times i was able to restart the vehicle within a couple of minutes. i made sure to note all the indicators to provide the ford service techs as much information as possible. when i brought the vehicle in to be serviced, the technicians professed no knowledge of the issue and contacted ford for support. they could not repeat the issue and the car had no log of the events. finally, i was told the problem was a faulted power control module (pcm). unfortunately, this part was on a national backorder for 6 weeks (probably as a result of the known problems). after the part was finally replaced, i was told that the pcm would not program correctly, and that the transmission control module needed to be replaced. end result, i have my vehicle back, just in time to take it back for a recall. at least it hasn't stalled ??. yet. *tr

Update 05/20/2013 this vehicle keeps getting worse: ?reverse does not work very well as it takes a long time to function. on a slight decline the car rolls forward and reverse has difficulty engaging. ?from a stop at a stop sign or red light, the car will attempt to lunge forward sometimes. ?from a stop at a stop sign or red light, the car will often not accelerate when the accelerator pedal is pressed. ?at any given time (full stop or in motion) the accelerator must be pressed half way or more to the floor in order to get the car to accelerate. ?the car lunges a lot and misses-then lunges while driving. *tr

While coming to a stop, the stop safely now warning chimed and vehicle lost all power. it would not go into park, or neutral to allow it to be pushed off the road. after several minutes of powering it on and off it eventually restarted and worked without incident until recently on 8/15/13 the same message occurred at a stoplight and the car again lost all power. after about 2 minutes it started and ran ok. *tr

While leaving the parking lot of a store to enter highway, my focus started sputtering and then shut completely down leaving me and my two children stranded in the road. we got help to push it out of the way when attempted tries to start didn't work. a tow truck came when called and took it to our ford dealership here who just called (24 hours later) to tell me they "think" there's a problem with the fuel pump. i have had continual problems with the transmission as well, this car rolls back on even the slightest hill, has caused some close calls when vehicles are close behind me. i am a working mom with a non-working vehicle for at least the week. *tr

Since purchasing this vehicle i have had consistent problems where i will pull out into traffic and the vehicle loses power. at some points, where the vehicle is stopped, the car shakes a lot! there seems to be an acceleration problem and it is getting much worse! i was almost rear-ended yesterday! *tr

I received a letter from ford in may 2012 regarding customer satisfaction program 12b37. the issue with the car was rough/jerky automatic transmission shifts & roll back when transitioning from the brake pedal to the accelerator pedal. my husband took the car into the ford shop to have this issue corrected on 6/8/2012. everything seemed to be fine but both issues started up again and became more frequent. my husband again took the car back to the ford shop on 1/2/2013. my husband was told that this is the way the car drives. but the ford shop took the car and said they would take a look. we were given the car back the same day and were told that they reprogrammed the car and that everything was working fine. that evening i was about to merge onto the highway but the car would not accelerate. i pushed the gas pedal almost all the way to the floor and the car wouldn't go faster than 30 mph. i was almost rear ended by another car. luckily the driver was able to swerve into the lane next to me. i got off at the next exit and took the local route home. the next morning i took the car back to the ford shop. at this point, the car was driving completely normally. i explained what happened the night before. they wound up keeping the car for 2 weeks. i was told that they couldn't figure out how to fix the issue and had to call ford to get instructions on how to correct the problem. during this time, i placed a call to ford and filed a complaint with them. we received the vehicle back and everything seemed to be fine but slowly the same issues showed up more frequently. today (5/13/13), i've taken the car back to the ford shop. i was told that they would check it but that this may just be the way the vehicle drives. i am very disappointed ford hasn't been able to correct the problem properly. *tr

I ordered the car from ford in 2011 as soon as they allowed orders. i have approximately 27,800miles on the car. i have yet to get the fuel economy that ford stated. i do both city and highway everyday and my combined fuel has not gone over 27 miles per gallon since i have owned it. i have even had it run out of gas on 3 separate occasions when the car was registering 30 and 34 miles to empty. *tr

I purchased my 2012 focus new nov. 2012. after a few weeks of owning the car, i noticed that the ride was not as 'smooth' as my prior car. i did not think anything of it, as i live in a city and assumed it was due to the stop and go of the city miles i drove as well as the winter season. by june 2013 with less than 8,000 miles, i began to notice that my car would roll backwards on hills when stopped in traffic while moving my foot from the brake to the accelerator and shake at various speeds. i was told by ford that the issue was deemed 'normal' in 2013. in november 2013, i had 12 months of data to realize the gas mileage was not even close to what the dealership and my car buying research led me to believe. i was getting 16 city mpg and 20 highway mpg. i also began to experience severe shuddering and shaking of my car at low speeds. when accelerating from ~10mph to ~25mph, my car began to lurch forward and also shudder when idle. in oct. 2014, i took the car for service w/ 12k miles. the service technician noted that there was nothing much that could be done as ford had not issued a new transmission fix. i was not happy with this answer and took the car back the following week and spoke to the mechanic's supervisor. the supervisor agreed to 'reflash' the transmission, which was the approved fix by ford at the time although it would worsen gas mileage due to reduction in gas efficiency to reduce the amount of shuddering and lurching i experienced. this fix did not appear to help at all and gas mileage got worse. in july 2017, i had the clutch replaced. the service technician acknowledged that the new clutch should help although it is the transmission causing the issues. since july 2017, i have not noticed any remarkable improvement to the driving experience. during standard maintenance, ford has told me there is nothing further that can be done.

On my way to the dealer to deliver the car for shuddering from stop to first gear, the car failed to engage in gear when i depressed the accelerator. i pressed the accelerator harder and the vehicle lurched into gear, and commenced up the hill from my house - the car then appeared to go into neutral on its own, thus no propulsion, then on its own slipped back into gear. as i made my way onto the main road, i proceeded cautiously unsure if the car would stall out or if i would even make it to the dealership. i did make it, but along the way the car slipped in and out of gear indiscriminately several times, leaving me without power for several seconds at a time. what if this were to happen on the highway at 65 mph? i drove in the breakdown lane with my flashers on to avoid being hit from behind. my dealership arundel ford has had the car in the shop since that day, and has agreed to replace the clutches, but tells me the parts are not going to be available until december 11 at the earliest. this is completely unsatisfactory. i have very little faith that the car will ever be safe to drive. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that she noticed gasoline leaking from under the vehicle. the vehicle had not been diagnosed. the contact stated that in the previous year, the fuel line became detached three times and was repaired. the manufacturer was notified but offered no assistance. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure and current mileages was 28,500.

The problem started about 2 months after the purchase of my car. with the low fuel light on i filled my gas tank until the handle/nozzle of the gas pump clicked off indicating the tank was full. when i removed the nozzle from the fill tube you can hear a rush of gas come up and then a splash as the gas hits the ground. it ejects the gas underneath the car alongside the right rear tire leaving an 8" wet spot. my concern is you have hot brakes and a hot muffler right there next to where the fuel is dumping on the ground. in my honest opinion this is a major fire hazard. i now will not fill up my tank with anyone in the car. i have brought it to the dealers attention on several occasions and they say they have found nothing wrong. it has happened to me three times. two times before the dealer investigated it and found nothing wrong and one time after. i spoke with the dealers finance manager who owns/leases a ford fusion and he stated it had happened to him on his car as well. ford has a new fuel filler system that does not use a cap anymore. it would appear that this system may be faulty by design. *tr

On 8/27/2012 i drove off the car lot with 7 miles on my new car. i noticed a little bit of rough shifting as the day passed. on 8/28 the car started bucking and jerking during acceleration. there was little power on inclines. the problem progressively got worse through the day. i set up an appointment to drop off for service the next day. took in for service on 8/29 and was told that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the car had 187 miles on it. on 8/30 i was told the car was fixed and i picked up my car. within a few miles the problem was back, but worse this time. i had some slight noise coming from the engine when the car was bucking and jerking. it almost stalled on a busy highway in rush hour traffic several times while on my way back to the dealer. it was struggling. the car is back in service with 220 miles on it. now they want to keep it for at least 3-4 days. 8/31 i was asked to drive the car with the mechanic to see if problem would reoccur. with the exception of a kick while pulling out of the dealership, the car drove ok, although we only drove around a block together. sales manager says that if the mechanic can't find any further problem, then i have to take the car back into my possession since it's my car. he says that sometimes things happen and i have to deal with it and let the mechanics do their job. i've had the car in my possession under 30 hours since i purchased it on 8/27. the car also has an issue with rolling back on an incline. *tr

Ever since i have owned this car since may 2012 it has shuddered when driving, stalled while driving, and shakes and does not increase speed when the accelerator is stepped on. the car now does not even start when it is turned on, despite the battery being good. car was towed into dealership several times and they supposedly fixed it. did several repairs to it but to this date it still shudders and stalls while driving. the latest repair they did was to fix the alternator...we will see....have come to the conclusion this model has several defects and would term it as a lemon. it barely has 60,000 miles on it and a car this new should not be having these issues as they are safety issues and i fear for me and my childrens lives and safety as this car does not function safely and stalls when we are driving! when i expressed my concerns to ford over these issues they took no action except to tape record my complaints...they do not care about these safey issues....the car has been in the dealership service center four times in the last four months....the last repair bill cost me $650....but i have no faith that they (ford) have fixed the problems.....i am fearful to drive this car but i am a single mother and cannot afford to trade the car in for another as the ford sales person told me no bank would loan me money on another car as i owed too much on this lemon that ford has sold me....ford was of no help and does not care....i told them that it would take someone dying in a car crash from these defects in order for ford to do something about these issues.....these issues happen while the car is in motion and when it is sitting still...the car will not start and has to be towed into the repair shop...

This car has had transmission problems with the dual clutch automatic transmission it will shudder when changing gears, rollback, come close to stalling. i took the car in to be "reprogrammed" back in june of 2012 it drove okay with only minor hiccups with transmission until october 20, 2013. the car has less than 22,000 miles on it and the car is now not shifting properly. i put the car in drive and it was like i was still in neutral, once it did get going then it did not shift into 2nd gear properly. the car is not safe to drive. i will be taking back to dealership once again to reprogram hopefully at no charge. this car is a lemon and needs to be on a mandatory recall. *tr
