Update 05/20/2013 this vehicle keeps getting worse: ?reverse does not work very well as it takes a long time to function. on a slight decline the car rolls forward and reverse has difficulty engaging. ?from a stop at a stop sign or red light, the car will attempt to lunge forward sometimes. ?from a stop at a stop sign or red light, the car will often not accelerate when the accelerator pedal is pressed. ?at any given time (full stop or in motion) the accelerator must be pressed half way or more to the floor in order to get the car to accelerate. ?the car lunges a lot and misses-then lunges while driving. *tr
My car (2012 ford focus) has problems shifting and makes a shutter noise while taking off i have taken it to the dealer multiple times and they told me nothing is wrong with the car. *tr
The vehicle came to a complete stop in front of the caldecott tunnel that separates the east bay to contra costa county. the vehicle stopped in the middle of traffic during commute time. also resulted in a terrible backup on the highway. spent over 3 hours dealing with this break down that included finding care for our children and finding someone to pick her up at dealership as it was after hours. *tr
Shuttering and stalling upon acceleration.car tends to roll backwards for no apparent reason on slight incline. speed acceleration and speed deceleration at random times. car hesitates badly when accelerating on to on ramp to merge with interstate traffic or to pass a vehicle on the highway. it's luck of the day if you accelerate and actually live or get hit when car shutters and hesitates. good luck focus owners. *tr
The transmission doesn't function properly -- delaying on acceleration, then 'catching' and accelerating in a burst. i've had it 'fixed' once and am trying to get it fixed again. it isn't safe, particularly in hilly traffic-heavy seattle. ford really needs to be accountable for the problematic transmission that they have running around the streets. i am in my mid-twenties and this is my first car. it's been very depressing, and i would love fair resolution. *tr
Since purchasing this vehicle i have had consistent problems where i will pull out into traffic and the vehicle loses power. at some points, where the vehicle is stopped, the car shakes a lot! there seems to be an acceleration problem and it is getting much worse! i was almost rear-ended yesterday! *tr
During a tight turn on a bendy road going about 55 mph the vehicle lost all power. as if someone turned they key off. lights, infotainment, steering, brakes, everything was effected. luckily steering doesn't lockup on a ford focus. and can be steered but without power assist. once at a complete stop, the car could be restarted with no instrument lights on, as if nothing happened. *tr
Bought 11/9/2012 six months later rec'd emission recall, 1yr later would not start, dead in grocery parking, dealer said emission again, 2nd yr radio went out, 3rd yr catalylict converter need to be changed, 5/16/2017 was charged $1805.72, said not emission but it was doing the same thing as before, dead had to be towed again to dealer, dealer said, "codes po420, po7a3 tested, found converter stopped up, shift actuator faulty, removed transmission replaced clutch actuatorsand clutch, removed & replaced manifold/coverter assembly. now twice so far engine malfunction light, no power, goes 5 miles....... when turned off in about 45-1 hr, starts.... all this while driving or parked in a parking lot.
The car is equipped with a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. while under heavy braking the car began to stall. the result was the brake pedal losing power assist from the engine. then because the engine was trying to recover from the near stall, i was unable accelerate to avoid an oncoming car. the engine did recover, but it took several seconds (and a lot of bucking and sputtering) before i was able to move the car after coming to a stop. the week prior, i had the car in for service at a local ford dealership because the car would shudder during acceleration. the dealership reprogrammed the transmission and the problem is still there, but less noticeable than before being serviced. this new issue with stalling under heaving braking did not occur prior to the servicing. after the near accident, i wanted to know if the problem was a fluke or if it would happen again. i have found that i can recreate the issue almost every time the car nears a stop under heavy braking. the car is scheduled for service for this issue. *tr
I experienced a complete and total loss of power in rented late model ford focus. *tr
Just like everyone else, the car stutters and hesitates to accelerate at slow speeds. the transmission feels as though it is going to fall out of the car. i have taken it to the dealership, and the "reprogrammed" the transmission. they said it could take up to 2 weeks for the car to relearn my driving habits. it has been 2 months, and the car continues to stutter and shake. *tr
I was pulling out of the cafe by my home. when i had a chance to pull out i stepped on the gas pedal. at this point the vehicle stalled then took off like a bat out of[xxx]. even leaving tire marks. i almost hit two on coming cars due to the hesitation then the lift off. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
The transmission "skips, flutters or just not kick in" when moving from a stopped position to an accelerated speed. seems like the transmission stalls out and then grabs. it does it quite often and i was almost rear-ended on several occasions so far by this hick-up in the transmission. i am going to take it back to baxter ford in omaha and see if the problem can be fixed or not. they may get the car back. *tr
On 1/23/2013 at appox at 10:15 am i was driving to work! i was driving west bound 10 fwy! i was going about 75 mph in the fast lane. when all of a sudden the car speed drops to 30 mph in a matter of seconds, i right away turn on my hazards! but do to the fact that i was` in the fast lane it was very hard to get over safety as the car felt like it was going to turn off. i was very scared and afraid for my life i honestly thought that i was going to get hit and end up in the hospital.the thought of not making it did cross my mind. i tried pushing the gas petal to regain speed as the car did not allow me to do so. the rpm cage was going from 0 to 7 with in seconds. i begin to attempt to get the car over to my right shoulder towards safety. all i can see throw my rear view mirror and hear was all the cars that started honking at me, flipping me off, barely messing me as all the cars had to swerving around me. i begin to shake as it was a very scary feeling being inside the car while all you can do is see which car will me the one that's actually going to hit my car and the chain reaction that it could have caused. as i get over the four lane trying to not get hit by the speeding cars, the car turns off and i am now stuck in between the 10 fwy going west bound and the interchange to the 57 fwy going north and south bound. now being stuck in the middle of these two busy fwy's i felt my life was in extreme danger as my mind didn't let me concentrate because all i my mind could pay attention to, was the rear view mirror as i seen the cars again swerving from hitting me and all i can hear again is the cars honking at me. i get on the my cell phone and call [xxx] for help !!!!(husband) we called ford roadside service!!!! and the tow company was there with in 20 mins !!! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). ...
I purchased a 2012 ford focus at my local dealership (5 miles on it); brand new. within 6 months i had it in the shop 2 times. at the time my husband was an employee of that dealership and they gave him the run around. indicating all they had to do was reset the computer. supposedly they reset the computer twice however it never fixed the problem. once it was diagnosed on the 3rd attempt at the local dealership that it needed "parts" i was given the run around by that dealership. after contacting ford motor company on several attempts i finally received a response. i had to beg ford for a rental car so that i had transportation for the week that the dealership had my car.once the vehicle was fixed and i picked it up; i noticed a really rough idle. after dealing with this for this for several months; the dealership had me bring it back in and had it for another week to fix the idle problem. as of today; it is still not running right. i am taking it back in on friday to have it looked at once again as the entire front of the car shakes and the dealership indicated it "sounds like the transmission." not only does it shake and rattle; it clicks at times and jerks/shudders forward. i have on numerous occasions contacted ford motor company and have asked everything from buying the vehicle back and once and for all fixing the problem and get nothing but the run around. today i my vehicle was taken back into the dealership and i was told that it needs another new clutch and they are backordered. your agency needs to do something about these fords and the ford motor company before it causes a fatality. the way the car lurches forward and shudders; this could cause an accident or someone could get hit by this. please help ford owners !! recall these vehicles. *tr
I ordered the car from ford in 2011 as soon as they allowed orders. i have approximately 27,800miles on the car. i have yet to get the fuel economy that ford stated. i do both city and highway everyday and my combined fuel has not gone over 27 miles per gallon since i have owned it. i have even had it run out of gas on 3 separate occasions when the car was registering 30 and 34 miles to empty. *tr
At highway speeds while trying to pass, meaning speeding, my engine would cut out or loose power which would last about 10 seconds. i am bringing this to your attention because i read about other ford owners having the same issue. now ford said that it was easily fixed by reprogramming the transmission, this fix has alleviated some of the engine power loss but not all. in fact this fix makes my transmission act like it is slipping and the shifts points are way out of range. it is because of these issues i can't stand driving it, please advise as to what my options are since my factory warranty ran out. *tr
4 incidents within 45 days....driving on a state hwy, at 55 mph and the engine quit entirely, had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. driving across a state hwy from a stop sign at 5 mph and engine quit again. unsafe! towed twice to dealer, had 4 rental cars in this time period, one for 18 days! other 2 times car would not start after driving 10 miles and parking. dealer had no clue and finally brought in a ford company engineer. still do not trust the car! ford declined a requested buy back. *tr
While pulling into traffic from a complete stop car would not accelerate. had to push gas pedal almost to floor to get car to go, that lead to a bucking acceleration, car jumping forward and almost being rear ended. took car to shop first told that's how the car drives, then told by transmission "specialist" i was not driving my car aggressive enough. after a 2 week stay the shaft seal and clutch was replaced. did not correct issue called ford corp and again was told this is how the car drives basically telling me i was at fault. car has since been back 2 times for the same reason, even took for a second opinion per ford request and car stalled on the service manager on a hill and yet i was told that's how the car is suppose to perform!!! not happy. tomorrow april 15th 2013 car is going back thus again for same reason. not feeling safe in my car!!!! *tr

My boyfriend and i bought a 2012 ford focus se hatchback on september first. after driving the car for a couple of days my boyfriend noticed that the transmission was not right but he thought this was happening just because the car was new. then, when driving to work i noticed that when i stopped on any incline street between taking the foot off the brake and placing it on the accelerator, the car rolled back quite quickly to the point that i almost hit the car behind me. days later, i started to feel that the steering required both hands at all times. it was constantly wandering and shaky specially during turns. to top it off on september 27th something terrible happened. i was in the drive way, i shifted from reverse to drive and the car took off at a lurch. the car accelerated so rapidly even with my foot on the brake pedal. i lost complete control of the vehicle. the car failed to slow down hitting two cars and tearing down a fence. i could finally stop the car when i quickly shifted to park. i do not understand how ford sells this car with all these problems risking people's lives. this is a serious issue. how many fatalities are they waiting for? are they going to do something ever about these malfunctions? this is ridiculous if i have known all these issues with this car, i would have never bought it for sure. *tr
I bought this car with 17,000 miles on it and kept it a year and a half. i couldn't stand it anymore. when accelerating, it would shake and shudder. the automatic shifting into first and second gears was extremely jerky all the time. if i was at a complete stop and the pavement was wet, the car would bolt forward when i accelerated. twice it like stopped when i was going 70 mph on a highway. it just sort of stopped operating for a flash and then resumed movement. it was scary. i took it to a reputable ford dealership which was closer to my house than where i bought it, and they worked on it 4 different times. i came in with the same complaints every time. in addition, because the transmission was so screwy, it apparently affected the tires and i had to buy 4 new tires because the tread was so worn down. i traded it in on a new toyota. that was my first ford and my last ford. never again. the car is a menace and definitely unsafe. *tr
On 8/27/2012 i drove off the car lot with 7 miles on my new car. i noticed a little bit of rough shifting as the day passed. on 8/28 the car started bucking and jerking during acceleration. there was little power on inclines. the problem progressively got worse through the day. i set up an appointment to drop off for service the next day. took in for service on 8/29 and was told that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the car had 187 miles on it. on 8/30 i was told the car was fixed and i picked up my car. within a few miles the problem was back, but worse this time. i had some slight noise coming from the engine when the car was bucking and jerking. it almost stalled on a busy highway in rush hour traffic several times while on my way back to the dealer. it was struggling. the car is back in service with 220 miles on it. now they want to keep it for at least 3-4 days. 8/31 i was asked to drive the car with the mechanic to see if problem would reoccur. with the exception of a kick while pulling out of the dealership, the car drove ok, although we only drove around a block together. sales manager says that if the mechanic can't find any further problem, then i have to take the car back into my possession since it's my car. he says that sometimes things happen and i have to deal with it and let the mechanics do their job. i've had the car in my possession under 30 hours since i purchased it on 8/27. the car also has an issue with rolling back on an incline. *tr

My issues with this car started the day i drove it off the lot and have not stopped. there was an issue with the fan that made my engine sound like it was chewing rocks whenever the air/heat was on - this has been fixed. i bought the car brand new and from day one it has been grinding, shuddering and not shifting smoothly. i've had issues with the rpm's skyrocketing when i'm slowing down and the rpm's skyrocketing when i'm trying to accelerate but the car isn't moving. i've had the car feel like it's completely lost power while in stop and go traffic then "wake up" and lurch forward...my transmission has been replaced once, my clutch replaced twice. once i've been told it's a figment of my imagination and once i was told that i need to learn how to drive the car. the clutch i have now is the same one being used in the 2015 focus's, and though it's "better", it's still off...it's just off so sporadically that i can't bring it in because i don't want to be told it's all in my head again. this car is not safe. it is not a car that i'm comfortable passing on to my child when she starts driving next year and it's not a car that i would drive day to day if i had to drive rush hour traffic. it's too bad, too, because the design of the car is wonderful - it's comfortable, it's got the right set up, but the most important part of the vehicle is dangerous and doesn't operate properly.
3 separate incidents have occurred in my 2012 ford focus all related to the transmission. the first incident occurred on august 25, 2012 while traveling at 40 mph, i suddenly lost power between the gas pedal and the car itself. the rpm's continued to climb but the car was no longer moving. took to ford dealer to be serviced and was told they could not find a problem. the next incident occurred on september 8, 2012 - not necessarily a safety concern but contributes to overall problem - pulling out of a parking lot, placed car in reverse, it did not move. took to ford dealer where the transmission was "reprogrammed". the most recent incident occurred on september 9, 2012, i pulled out into 35 mph traffic, my car would not shift out of first gear, going 10 mph and "revving" but not accelerating fast enough to stay ahead of traffic. had car towed to ford dealer where it is at this time. *tr
My car has almost gotten me in 3 accidents and it rolls back on hills i was pulling into a drive way and it started to roll back then it slowed down and there was a load noise and we started rolling backwards it was just a drive way. the car has absolutely no power at all it stutters and when you are driving in busy places and your car wont pick up enough ton enter on the highway or freeway its scary and its unsafe it will shake the whole car when it pulls back and stutters. it is awful and i went on a 3 hour drive to go on vacation i actually rented a car instead of taking my brand new car that i got to last me years fro now was the plan if it makes it another 1 year i will be surprised very dangerous ford. *tr
Ever since i have owned this car since may 2012 it has shuddered when driving, stalled while driving, and shakes and does not increase speed when the accelerator is stepped on. the car now does not even start when it is turned on, despite the battery being good. car was towed into dealership several times and they supposedly fixed it. did several repairs to it but to this date it still shudders and stalls while driving. the latest repair they did was to fix the alternator...we will see....have come to the conclusion this model has several defects and would term it as a lemon. it barely has 60,000 miles on it and a car this new should not be having these issues as they are safety issues and i fear for me and my childrens lives and safety as this car does not function safely and stalls when we are driving! when i expressed my concerns to ford over these issues they took no action except to tape record my complaints...they do not care about these safey issues....the car has been in the dealership service center four times in the last four months....the last repair bill cost me $650....but i have no faith that they (ford) have fixed the problems.....i am fearful to drive this car but i am a single mother and cannot afford to trade the car in for another as the ford sales person told me no bank would loan me money on another car as i owed too much on this lemon that ford has sold me....ford was of no help and does not care....i told them that it would take someone dying in a car crash from these defects in order for ford to do something about these issues.....these issues happen while the car is in motion and when it is sitting still...the car will not start and has to be towed into the repair shop...

Purchased vehicle in june 2012 and transmission has been shaky, slipping, stuttering, jerking, stalling on acceleration, overheating, rolling back on hills, no acceleration on hills, and grinding ever since. had clutch seal replaced within a couple of months from purchase which they claimed caused the problem. problem persisted but they told me to give it time to adjust to the repair. i took it back in at 11,000 and they replaced one of the clutches. problem persisted only then the car's system indicated the transmission was overheating (while i was on the highway) and indicated on the console that i needed to wait until the car cooled down. the temp on the car was in normal range. i was 3 hours from home with small children in the car and left on the side of a major highway because my car's system said the tranny was overheating. took it to the dealer again and they said it was a glitch; no concern necessary. i complained again about the jerking in the transmission and they said i needed to give the car some time to adjust to the repair at 11,000. at 24, 000, i was fed up from waiting and took the car in again only to be told that i needed the entire clutch assembly replaced but they were on back-order. contacted ford for a buy back and they said "no, that's how the car drives - it's normal" car is now at 50,000 with same problems. currently working with an attorney on a suit against ford. *tr
My car stalls out and hesitates when pulling out from intersections. it is a safety hazard because i have almost been hit by oncoming traffic. it happens regularly and there is nothing i can do to correct it. my 2012 ford focus is under warranty but ford refuses to repair or replace the car. *tr
When accelerating, whether from a dead stop or coasting, 1st, 2nd (& now starting to do it in 3rd) gears audibly rattle and clunk. very slow response time when accelerating after car is "warmed up." the more it is driven in stop and go and/or city traffic, the worse the acceleration (and rattling when shifting) becomes. so much so that when trying to pull out into traffic on 09/04/12 i thought the car would be hit. i had 3 kids in the car with me! and i always allow plenty of time to pull out because of this issue. it has been a near constant issue with this car which was purchased in may 2011. car jerks when accelerating in stop and go traffic and will sometimes "jump" and rev into a higher speed. all the above issues had been addressed and "fixed" twice before the "customer satisfaction" recalls were sent out in may. issues are resolved for a limited amount of time and then start happening again. car still rolling back when brake is released at a stop on slight inclines. another "customer satisfaction" recall. minor issues: *can barely be heard when speaking on the "sync" system while driving *clock changes time randomly *rear defroster doesn't automatically turn off *fan speed changes after car is turned off to a random speed setting *radio will change to a random station *sometimes* after making a phone call. *tr
I bought the 2012 focus around february of 2012. at first i was estatic and the car ran great. however, just a few months after i bought it the car started griding at low speeds had a lot of trouble going up a hill to the point it wants to stall. at one point i did get up the hill, but the car didn't seem to recover and about 2 minutes later the car did stall driving about 30 mph and we had to glide it through traffic and into a parking lot. the car would not drive for at least 15 minutes, and the check engine light came on. by the time i got it to the dealership the light had gone off, and they told me they couldn't "duplicate the issue", and that if the light had went off there wasn't anything they would be able to find. the grinding noises continued, and i complained everytime i brought it in for an oil change. it also started acting lethargic when making turns (specifically left turns). the car was brought into the dealership at least two more times over the same issue, had a reprogramming done, and it still continued to make noises, jerk, grind, shift widly, etc. around may of this year (2014) i was stopped on a steep hill and the car started rolling backwards. at first it seemed normal because i applied the brake, but when i moved to the gas the car started rolling backwards in drive and would not stop until i applied the brake again. i almost hit the person in back of me. i insisted ford fix the issue, and after having the car for almost a week they again said they couldn't duplicate the problem. the same issue happened two weeks later and i received the same answer. i have left messages for the manager over the whole dealer, and he won't return my calls. i am about to take the car back again since i only have around 300 miles of my warranty left, and the car has been having many issues lately. and then i'm going to call a lawyer and the news. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2012 ford focus. the contact stated while driving approximately 30 mph, a metal to metal rattling noise emitted outside of the vehicle. the transmission slipped gears and the vehicle began to vibrate with hesitation. the failure occurred sporadically when shifting into second gear. additionally, when the brake pedal was depressed when driving on an incline the vehicle would roll. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer twice where each time the computer module was reprogrammed. the vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 14,000.
On-going problems with the transmission. the first incident occurred approximately one month after purchase. i took it to the dealer and they told me that the shuddering/shifting problems that i was experiencing were "normal" and that the vehicle needed an adjustment period. i was told that it would smooth out once it got used to my driving pattern. the problem continued and i took it back several times to the dealership. each time i was told that the car needed to get used to my acceleration. during one of the visits the dealer did replace the clutch assembly and several seals. the vehicle shudders badly, on take off, and has bogged down to the point that i feel unsafe in the vehicle. i am completely disappointed in this vehicle. *tr
This is a ongoing problem with my focus. when accelerating from a stop the focus's automatic dsg transmission (in d) will quickly shift to a higher gear in an effort to minimize fuel consumption. during a stopped turn at a intersection this leads to a unsafe condition where commanded acceleration takes several seconds to happen. the problem happens like this: the car accelerates at a stop sign or parking lot. the car accelerates to 10-15 miles per hour. the driver lets off the gas during the "turn" part. the transmission shifts to second or a higher gear. the driver then commands a large acceleration - say due to oncoming traffic - and nothing will happen for several seconds. this is because the dsg transmission needs to shift sequentially into first and this takes several seconds. also it appears that the powertrain is disconnected while this shifting takes place. when the transmission finally selects first the acceleration can be sudden and unexpected. this has happened to me several times and i believe it is a dangerous condition. it can be avoided by manually selecting first - then shifting to d when the turn is complete. *js
I purchased this vehicle on march 21, 2012 and first took it into the dealership april 4, 2012 because the transmission boggs for the startup 0 to approximately 20 mph. this created a safety hazard when pulling into oncoming traffic because the vehicle had no power, especially when in a stopped position. passing vehicles was unsafe if you were in the lower gears of the transmission due to lack of power. another safety hazard is that the vehicle drifts backwards when i take my foot off of the gas pedal, as if it was a standard shift transmission. this was especially dangerous on a hill or a grade . this vehicle also drifts backwards when you put your vehicle in park and release the brake pedal, causing danger to pedestrian or vehicles behind you. i have taken this vehicle back numerous times since i have owned it for the same types of problems with the transmission (now at various speeds) and drifting backwards. the dealership has made numerous adjustments and changes to the transmission, but to date this vehicle basically remains, in my opinion, a safety hazard. to date, ford company states that all of the above has a reason and states that it is "normal" for this new type of transmission. in my opinion, this transmission evolved to save gas, not lives. *tr
Tl* the contact owns 2012 ford focus. the contact stated that whenever attempting a left or right turn, there were several seconds of hesitation before the vehicle would respond. the contact had previously received notification of a manufacturer's recall and took the vehicle to the dealer who reprogrammed the computer. after receiving the vehicle back the hesitation continued to occur. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer who advised the contact that the failure was normal and there was no other remedy for the hesitation. the manufacturer was notified who also stated the failure was normal and offered no further assistance. the failure mileage was 11,000.
Within a month of purchase, the vehicle has been "shuddering" i have reported this to the dealership every time i sent it in for service and all they tell me is "it is normal, you have to get used to it. its the new transmission technology of ford." i cant believe that after 2yrs and 17k miles on it that it is still exhibiting the same problem and there has been no resolution to it. may i know until when am i going to wait? another problem that just came up- i have witnessed a loud sound coming from the speaker. seems like a thunder/cracking noise. my husband has heard it twice. it is a very loud sound. it scared me when i heard it the first time. *tr
My focus shutters while trying to move through first gear. before second gear engages, first gears feels as if it was slipping. i brought this to the attention of my dealer within the first month and they told me it needed to brake in. after bringing it in several times, they performed a 12b37 update, a full pcm re program and ended having to replace the entire gear box because a seal ruptured. all of this in three separate occasions this last attempt fixed it, but the problem returned. i issued ford a last attempt request and just picked up my car. the field supervisor states that he noticed the shuttering, but that it was normal for my vehicle. well, if the same issue persists and it was fixed last time by replacing seals and the gear box, how could this be normal for my car? i will be seeking legal assistance from this point forward and will be initiating a bbb autoline mediation request. *tr

2012 ford focus. consumer writes in regards to ongoing transmission issues. *smd the consumer stated each time visited the dealer, she was informed it was only a programming adjustment. the consumer has been to the dealer 10 times, for the same problem. the consumer stated the transmission was unpredictable. not only did the clutch slip between first and second gears, the vehicle intermittently hesitated when taking off from a complete stop. also, the engine would shake at 55 mph and continued to shake even at 70 mph. *jb
I bought my 2012 ford focus hatchback in july of 2011. almost immediately i noticed problems. the problems included the car rolling backwards on hills, sputtering when stopped (like at a red light), jumping upon acceleration, & briefly losing acceleration while the rpm??s revved. i took it back to the dealership & they told me that the backwards rolling, revving & jumping of the engine was a trait of the car. i told them it was dangerous depending on where i was when these things happened (for example, at an intersection or in stop & go traffic with a car in front of me). they assured me that there was nothing wrong with the car. on october 17, 2011, the car broke down. i pulled out of a parking lot & pushed down on the accelerator, at first the car started to accelerate, but once it got to about 15/20 mph, the rpm??s began to rev & the car would not accelerate so i took my foot off of the accelerator & the car stopped revving. if i had been on a highway, this would have been very dangerous. my car had to be towed to the dealership. they reprogrammed the powertrain control module & transmission control module. the car would then drive, but the rolling backwards on hills, sputtering when stopped, jumping upon acceleration, & briefly losing acceleration while the rpm??s revved still continued & after several trips to their service department, the dealership could still not fix these issues. i then received a letter from ford referencing a customer satisfaction program 12b37 dated may 2012. it acknowledged these issues so i took it back to the dealership. although they reprogrammed the powertrain control module, transmission control module again as well as the anti-lock brake system, the car continues to have the same problems. these problems could potential cause a wreck, injuring myself or others around me. *tr
When in stop and go traffic, the vehicle lunges whenever you go back and forth from the accelerator to the brake, nearly causing several accidents. *tr
Have a 2012 focus se. purchased in may of 2010. since july of 2010, i have been taking it to the local dealership where i purchased the vehicle complaining that the car was surging, shuddering, and when i hit the gas pedal, it feels like the car stalls, gets no gas, or has trouble getting into gear. of course, there are no known issues until a recall. finally, the problem can be addressed. i take it in, they "fix it" it still shudders, and feels like it's going to stall out in the intersection. next thing, my car overheats and dies at 11pm on the side of the interstate. i take to a different dealership and they say, well the clutch is bad and the cooling system is bad. great 2012 car and two items have already went out. they change the clutch and cooling system, now when i back up, it grinds and bogs down. i have had my car for 2 years in may, 39,000 miles on it, and it's been in the shop a total of 4 times. they have changed the clutch and the cooling system. was told the clutch needed "several hundred miles to break in" gave it about 500, still grinds when i back up, more so on an incline. although now, it's decided it wants to stutter when it starts. so it's back in the shop for the 4th time, and i'm yet again in a rental car. i have a customer service guy through ford, he's useless... i can't even get him to return a phone call. what is the point of him being there if he's not going to do his job. i don't feel that i'm getting any resolutions from the local dealerships i have dealt with, or from your customer care manager. i want a replacement vehicle. i have worked with ford over 2 years and the vehicle is still having problems. of course the dealership tells me this is an isolated issue. please go to edmunds, com and you will see that this is not an isolated issue... there are multiple reports of the same problems that i am having. *tr
