We have classified the 86 complaints from 2007 Ford Focus about AIR BAGS into the following categories.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the contact stated that the air bag warning light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver's side air bag clock spring needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was repaired. the approximate failure and current mileage was 19,000.kmj
1) the airbag did not deploy in an accident several years ago ( approx. december, 2011 - mileage was approx. 45,000) when the car collided with an oncoming car and was damaged on the front end and driver's side. no one was injured. during the past 2 or 3 years, i have noticed that the driver's side airbag warning light has been going on and off for days at a time. it seems to be affected by heat and humidity. it seems to go on when the weather is humid and off when the air is dry, at all times of the year. i am not sure whether the airbag would deploy when it is necessary. 2) during the past year, the power steering has making a loud grinding noise when i turn the steering wheel either right or left. a mechanic who worked on it said he put a clamp on it and refilled the steering fluid, which helped for a few weeks, but the problem has returned. so far the steering has worked well, but i'm concerned that power steering is defective and wearing out too soon.the mechanic said it was safe to drive.
Warning light on dash for passenger airbag pops on at times. the indicator in the middle of the console will also light up as if someone is in the seat. the warning light will stay lite for days and at times weeks and then just go off. i've attempted to reset as the owner manual explains to , but it hasn't worked. i've taken it to a mechanic (firestone) to inquire of issue. i was told it maybe electrical. i've even taken to a dealership's auto repair department and was told the same thing. 99% of time since i've owned this vehicle no one has ridden in my passenger front seat. so this concerns me because if something happens what if the airbag, which seems to be faulty, doesn't deploy. *tr
I was hit in a head-on collision by another car on feb. 28, 2013. the car was totaled, but the air bag failed to deploy. i reported the problem to ford and after requesting that i send them pictures of the car, they concluded that they were not responsible for my injuries. i had previously owned several ford vehicles, and convinced my daughter that it was a good decision to purchase a brand new ford. unfortunately, she was disappointed because there were problems with the vehicle from the time she got it. the cd player broke while it was under warranty, but they told her at the dealership the $750.00 cd player would be covered under the warranty, but she'd have to pay $150. for the labor. the airbag light on the passenger rarely lit up when someone was in the passenger seat, but they told me it was fine. just like some of the other reports i've heard, it had started making strange noises long before the accident, but we were unable to find out what the cause was. before the car was 5 years old, i had replaced the alternator, shocks, a/c compressor, and i can't say how many times i had to replace the brakes. *tr
12-26-2012 i was on route 77 in akron, ohio when i slid on ice and snow, my car started spinning and an suv going north and my car crashed. i spun into the left lane where a cadillac suv was driving north and he hit the driverside front side of my vehicle. my car may be totaled. front driverside headlight is gone, transmission was pushed back and hood of car is bent. my airbag did not go off. i was taken to the hospital after hitting my head on the driver side window, and i strained my neck. my question is why did my airbags not go off?? *tr
My husband and i were driving on a highway at about 65mph outside of cleveland, ohio when the passenger side air bag deployed without cause. we were shocked, but my husband was thankfully able to keep control of the car. the road was totally clear there was no reason for this to happen. we went to a nearby police station and the officer stated that there was no evidence of any kind of accident at all, and that this was a manufacturing defect in their opinion. my arm and back have been sore and we have not heard from the ford dealer how they plan to take care of this. i am afraid that the other airbags are defective as well. if this happened on the driver side it could cause a serious accident. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. while driving approximately 75 mph, the contact drove over a tire in the middle of the road. the front driver's side curtain air bag then deployed erroneously. the contact sustained bruises to the arms as a result of the airbag deployment. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 87,800.
Dashboard extreme heat. wiring for airbag switch no longer works. airbag light stays on. switch on dash no longer works. *tr
i am very worried about airbag light on the dash which is presently lit up since 2012. i took it to several mechanics and they won't do anything about since it is not on the list. can someone please check and make sure takata has not extended to ford focus 2007 for me? thank you, sincerely, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
I was in a auto accident on 05/18/2012, i was driving 10 miles under posted speed limit, i had a green light and a young girl age 17 ran red light i had no time to step on brakes or anything, i was knocked out when i came too, the air bag had deployed and it burned my face, nose, i inhaled whatever chemicals are in the airbag,it burned my throat all the way down, and to this day, my nose has a bruise looking splotches and my nose bleeds constantly, also, i have sores in my mouth constantly and a blue blood blister on my lip..i am horse, i was coughing up blood...my voice has not been the same since the accident, the young girl was sited with a ticket and i was not, i was rushed to the hospital, the airbag broke my sternum but i am concerned about my lungs hurt constantly and with all the other things that are still bothering me, i have pictures of my face and chest, plus the police report... *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph over a pothole, the air bag warning indicator began to illuminate continuously. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and independent mechanic, who both stated that the entire air bag system would need to be replaced. the technicians also stated that when the malfunction occurred, the air bag system responded as though a massive impact was involved with the vehicle. there was no impact nor did the air bags deploy. the vehicle had not been repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 61,000. the vin was unavailable.
At 7:30 this morning, i was driving to work on the palisades parkway, my speed was about 70 mph, when suddenly there was a loud bang, followed by smoke in the interior of my car. i immediately slowed down and realized that the car was still operating fine, but that the driver's side impact air bag deployed for no reason. i did not hit a pot hole, nor was i hit or hit any one or any thing. it just deployed on it's own. the seat bag was located in the driver's seat. there is now foam rubber in the interior of my car from the seat. the seam on the seat is open. i called the local ford dealer and was told it would not be covered. i also called the ford motor company customer care service, which assigned a case number and i should hear back in about 24-48 hours. upon looking on the web, i have found about 25 additional instances of the same air bag deploying for no reason. my left arm, my neck are bruised from the impact of the airbag. i also am having ringing in my left ear from the bang. is there enough evidence for a recall based on many deployments of this airbag? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the contact stated that while traveling 65 mph, the front driver's side air bag erroneously deployed. the vehicle was able to be driven to the contact's residence and was later taken to an authorized dealer where the failure could not be replicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 85,000.
Air bag light is illuminated or on. however, my car has never been in an accident or collision. power steering on the car went bad. i had to get it replaced. wanted to know if there are any recalls for both of these issues. i bought this car new. should i be experiencing problems this soon? *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the contact was driving at various speeds when the front passenger side air bag warning indicator illuminated until the engine was turned off. the failure recurred whenever the engine was in operation. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis where they informed the contact that the instrument cluster and passenger side impact sensor would need to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified and informed the service warranty expired. the approximate failure mileage was 8,000.
The airbag light on the instrument cluster of my 2007 ford focus came on for the first time august 31, 2011. the car has 37,023 miles and has had all the dealer maintenance performed since the car was purchased. i was told by the longmont ford dealer that the on board diagnostic computer indicated a loss of communication and that the airbag safety system was not engaged when the light was on. i returned to the dealer the next day to have a complete diagnostic to determine what had caused the light to activate. i was told that the instrument cluster had failed and that the entire cluster must be replaced. this electronic failure represents a serious safety issue if not replaced at a cost of ~$800.00. i am deeply concerned that other drivers of this car may not understand that the safety system is completely inactive when the instrument cluster fails in this way. ford does not offer to replace this as part of the safety warranty program. i think this is wrong and represents a safety hazard for drivers who may not understand the failure or who cannot afford to make such a repair and choose to drive the care without the safety feature operable. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the contact stated that the air bag light illuminated on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the clock spring needed to be replaced because the air bag may not deploy in the event of a crash. the contact also stated that the door latch for the front driver's side broke and he could not get exit from that door. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 64,000.
I was driving down a city street when my driver side airbag deployed for no reason. i did not go over a bump and was not hit by another vehicle to justify the airbag deploying. i immediately pulled over and got out of my car. *tr
Air bag light lights up indicating some type of failure if used. *tr
Just as a preface, i sent this same description of my airbag problem to ford and they were unwilling to help in any way. i purchased my used 2007 ford focus from a beasley ford dealership in june 2010. not even one year after i purchased the vehicle in april 2011, i was driving down the road and the airbag light started to flicker. shortly after, it just stayed on. i noticed that the center dash passenger airbag light, the one that senses a sitting passenger, was also flickering from time to time and would sporadically come on or off. in may 2010, i called beasley ford and the woman said that it would be $88.00 to diagnose the airbag light and that my vehicle was not covered under any warranty for this matter. i took my car in for an oil change and decided to spend the $88 dollars to have the airbag light diagnosed. i waited for an hour and forty-five minutes. i was called to the service center. the technician told me that he needed another two hours with my car to diagnose the problem. he had already spent one hour trying to diagnose the problem and he was able to narrow it down to 3-4 possible causes. i was told that it would be another $88.00 per hour, totaling $167.00, just to figure out what is wrong with the airbag. i told the service representative that i called and the woman said it was $88 dollars and never told me it was $88 dollars per hour. i was then told that after the diagnosis, i will have to pay for parts, which could be upwards of $617.00 if the airbag needs to be replaced, plus labor. frustrated and completely shocked, i came home and checked to see if the airbag was an ongoing problem for other ford focus owners. i read about hundreds of other individuals who have had the same issue within the years 2005-2007. one of the main reasons why i am writing is because if this issue hasn't been looked into, i think it should be. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. while driving approximately 30 mph the drivers side air bag deployed inadvertently. the contact stated that there was not a crash. the dealer was contacted and stated that the warranty did not cover the repairs and the contact would receive a return call. the contact had not received a call back. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 104,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. while driving approximately 65 mph the drivers side side air bag deployed. the contact stated that he was able to continue driving after the air bag deployed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technicians had not diagnosed the failure. the manufacturer stated that the repairs were not covered under the warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 30,500. updated 05/03/11*lj ford authoried the dealer to replace the driver side air bag, sensor and module.
While driving on a busy 3 lane expressway in the center lane at 60 miles per hour, the left curtain airbag deployed and i wasn'tinvolved in an accident. my arm felt like someone hit me with a baseball bat. but luckily i was able to maintain control and not cause a pile up. my wife was in the car with me and was very thankful that i was driving because she said she probably wouldn't have reacted the same way. she had just purchased this 2007 ford focus less then a week ago, with a clean car fax!!!! now i'm reading that this has happened to alot of people. i have been a fireman for nearly 25 years and i've seen what airbags can do to people when they work properly. and if its true that ford is ignoring these claims, someone one with some federal pull should do something about this. *tr
Side airbag on 2007 ford focus deployed spontaneously while vehicle was being driven at highway speeds on an interstate route. according to a local ford dealership," rcm received crash data," though there was no impact. *tr
Driving on the freeway at approx 60 mph heard a very loud noise and all of sudden my 2007 ford focus came to a complete stop with the seatbelt becoming very tight against me and jerking me, within a few seconds the car was able to start again and it informed me that my airbags had been deployed. the dash dropped and the air vents cracked, my steering wheel has shifted. this has left marks on my neck, chest and pains throughout my neck and back. possible whiplash. car is going to dealership tomorrow, hopefully i will have some kind of explanation for what happened. *tr

The airbag warning light on my 2007 ford focus zx3 comes on and remains on. dealer reset the code and it stayed off for a couple months and then came back on. i am told that the bags will not deploy so long as the light is on. from owner forums i gather that this is not an infrequent issue. *ln
Driving on highway, 2007 ford focus side air bag deployed for no reason. *tr
2007 ford focus air bags did not deploy during an accident. *cw the consumers daughter was traveling 50 mph when she rear ended another vehicle. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford focus which was purchased in october 2007. while driving 40 mph in snow and icy conditions, the rear of the vehicle began to slide toward to the right. the vehicle was turned 360 degrees which caused it to face oncoming traffic. the vehicle proceeded to slide and crashed into the median. the frontal air bags did not deploy at the time of the crash. the passenger suffered injuries to her shoulders and arms. a police report was filed. the vehicle was destroyed. the failure and current mileages were 80,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the contact was driving approximately 45 mph when the airbag warning light illuminated until the engine was turned off. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and repairs. one year later, the failure recurred and the clock spring was replaced. the vehicle was not being driven due to the safety concerns regarding the airbag. updated 5/9/11 *cn the consumer stated the air bag light illuminated again in february 2011. the dealer stated there was a faulty spring in the steering column. updated 07/06/11
My daughter was driving our 2007 ford focus. she was on a smooth road, when the driver side airbag opened for no reason. it hit her on the side of the head, causing her to have hearing loss for 2 minutes as well as a headache. it also caused her to swerve the car slightly, but she had total control. i took the car to magic city ford in roanoke, va, they ran some tests and contacted the ford corp. between the two of them, it was decided that my daughter was a fault, and that she had to have hit something. i inspected the car myself on sat, and there is no damage to the car. ford just wants to sweep this under the carpet, along with magic city ford. *tr
I was driving down the interstate through an interchange around a curve, when i hit what i thought was a pothole. the next thing i knew, the car filled with smoke and my shoulder felt as if i had been slugged by someone. after coming to my senses, i realized my side airbag in my seat had deployed as i drove down the interstate. i have never had an airbag deploy, and had no idea what had happened. my driver's seat in my ford focus 2007 is now ripped down the side where the airbag deployed and no ford dealership will replace the seat. according to the "blackbox" that records what happens in a vehicle, the technician explained, my vehicle had a 360 degree spinout that created enough force for my airbag to deploy, and that my insurance company would have to fork up the cost of replacing my seat. i have been battling this for about 2 years now!!!!!! *tr
On june 13, 2009, my husband, my 16 month old son and i were driving on i95 s from north carolina to south carolina when my rear left tire blew out. this sent us fish tailing across all lanes and finally when the back of my car spun around into the shoulder, the car flipped onto the driver side, then onto the top of the car, then finally landing back upright. not during any time did the airbags deploy on any side of my car. *tr
Passenger side impact air bag deployed after hitting a pot hole in the road doing about 25 mph. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. while driving at least 25 mph, the contact's vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle. as a result, she crashed into the preceding vehicle. a total of four vehicles were involved in the crash. the frontal air bags failed to deploy in the contact's vehicle. she was transported to the hospital in an ambulance and sustained injuries to the back of the head, neck, and wrist. another occupant was also injured. a police report was filed. ford stated that the air bags should deploy upon impact at speeds of at least 18 mph. the failure and current mileages were less than 40,000.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. while driving 55 mph, a large truck ran the contact's vehicle off the road and caused her to crash into a light pole. a police report was filed. none of the air bags deployed. the contact suffered major contusions during the crash. one year ago, the contact struck a deer with her vehicle and the air bags failed to deploy at that time as well. the current and failure mileages were 45,000. updated 04-14-09 *bf the consumer stated the seat belt caused bruises to the right side of her chest from hitting the steering wheel. updated 0415/09. *jb
Recently, my 2007 ford focus ses wagon began exhibiting a problem with the passenger airbag system. with my wife in the passenger seat and normal operating conditions, the passenger airbag off light on the dash will illuminate indicating that the airbag will not deploy if we were to get into an accident. this occurs at random times. i have twice had this vehicle in to the local ford dealer who was unable to duplicate the problem. this problem did not occur during the first two years we owned the vehicle. it has been happening regularly over the past several months. if the indicator does illuminate and the traffic conditions are such that we can do this safely, my wife can unbuckle the seat belt and let it retract. she can then re-buckle her seat belt and the indicator will turn off. our trips have been short enough that we have not seen the light turn back on so i do not know if this resolves the issue for that particular trip or if it would turn back on if the trip were longer. something in the passenger seat belt controls seems to be bad. whether that is the passenger weight sensor, the seat belt sensor, or the control module cannot be determined as we have not been able to get to the dealer when this occurs since most often it is the evening when my wife is with me. by that time, the dealer is closed. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the contact stated that while starting the vehicle the air bag light illuminated intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the air bag system failed. the vehicle was repaired but the failure reccurred several times.in addition, the contact stated that while entering the vehicle it was found that the driver front seat was the problem. the vehicle was driven to the dealer where it was confirmed that the cushion of the seat became disconnected from the body. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 200 and the current mileage was 61,000.
I was passing a car and just completed the pass (approx. speed was 60 mph), when the back right tire locked up. this caused me to go into on coming traffic. i then went off the road and flipped end over end once and barrell rolled three times. the car was totaled. i had minor injuries. witnesses stopped and told police and fire personnel, that after i had passed them, the right rear tire locked up and spun me out of control. the car landed on its driver side. during the spin as i applied the brakes to regain control of the vehicle it felt as if the vehicle was trying to accelerate. the airbags never deployed. my concerns are the braking system, tires, air bags, and wheel bearings. this crash should not have happened, this is an obvious problem for ford. *tr
Was driving down the road starting feeling dizzy and blacked-out. hit a light post totaled the whole car from the front both front tires came off when i hit. the air bags never came out. i broke my 11th rib and my body was all bruised up. i have pictures of the bruises and of the car. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the contact stated that the air bag light illuminated and remained lit on the instrument panel, which indicated that the air bag would not deploy. the cruise control does not disengage properly. in addition, the driver side door does not unlock properly or on a consistent basis. the current mileage was 14,000 and failure mileage was 6,523.update 09/10/08 *cw doors do not lock properly. updated 09/16/08. *jb
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. while driving 35 mph, the contact's vehicle struck and killed a horse. the front air bags failed to deploy. the insurance company is investigating the crash. the vehicle will be towed to a body shop. a police report was filed. the contact sustained neck and head injuries and the passenger sustained head injuries. the failure mileage was 36,000.
I was in an auto accident and my side airbags did not deploy. can you explain why? i owned a 2007 ford focus. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the contact stated that the driver's side air bag sensor would continuously illuminate on the instrument panel. the dealer removed the entire dashboard in order to replace the mechanism. the repairs were covered under warranty. less than a year later, the vehicle was taken to the dealer again for routine maintenance to the steering wheel. it was discovered that the passenger side rear door would not lock and the driver's side air bag sensor continued to illuminate on the instrument panel. the dealer could not duplicate the failures. a diagnostic was performed; however, no error codes were produced. the contact also stated that while making left or right turns, the steering wheel felt as if it would pop off. the dealer found a defect with the steering column and had the component replaced. the service manager at the ford dealer stated that there may be an issue with the air bags for a plethora of reasons. the contact stated that the driver of the vehicle does not feel safe operating the vehicle. he was very leary of operating the vehicle on the highway due to the fact of not having a functioning air bag in the event of a crash. no additional repairs have been made to the air bags. the failure mileage was 31,000 and current mileage was 53,786.
Tl*the contact owns a 2007 ford focus. the contact stated that the air bag light had been intermittently illuminating on and off for two years. the contact also stated that in two accidents, the air bags did not deploy; the vehicle was rear ended in both accidents. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer six times but the problem had not been fixed; the air bags were replaced twice, the air bag light was replaced once and the clock spring was replaced once but the problem continued. the failure mileage was approximately 5,000. the current mileage was 75,506.
I own a 2007 ford focus. i purchased the se model new because of the additional safety features such as front and side air bags. my daughter was involved in a serious accident on 4/5/08 where a car pulled out in front of her. her focus hit the car dead center between the drivers car door and the passenger car door. the impact was almost a perfect frontal impact which destroyed the entire front of the focus. no airbags deployed and my daughter suffered a bruised chest, neck and back pain from the seat belt. i'm concerned that there is a problem with the non-deployment of airbags on the ford focus on frontal impacts. i believe it is in the best interest of the public that this be investigated. the car has been towed to nichols ford in fort worth, tx. i have also notified the consumer department of ford motor company of the complaint. *tr
My daughter was recently in a horrific car crash in her brand new 2007 ford focus. the car flipped, hit a telephone pole (rear end) landed on the top and rolled. the airbags (front and side) never deployed. my daughter sustained head injuries and cuts, scrapes & bruises - but thank god survived. are there issues with the air bags on the 2007 focus? *tr
My daughter was a passenger in a 2007 for focus. she weighs 175lbs. the driver rear ended the car in front of them in a 50mph zone and none of the airbags deployed. why? *tr
