Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2013 Ford Flex

Front and rear passenger door ajar warnings activate when doors are completely closed, resulting in problems with auto door lock feature, interior lights remaining on, and keyless entry panel lights remaining illuminated. this occurs when the vehicle is stationary as well as in motion both in city street and highway situations.

Rear passenger door latch sensor is failing. interior lights will not shut off after door is closed.

The driver side door does not lock. the mechanism that recognizes that the driver side door is closed doesn't work. when the car is turned on and subsequently when the vehicle comes to a stop or very slow speed (like a stop sign or light) the alarm sounds again (a pinging sound with a visual alert that the door is open with an message to shift to park). however, no matter how many times the door is opened and shut, the alarm doesn't go off. this means that doors do not automatically lock when the car is put into gear. when the vehicle attempts to automatically lock the doors when the car is put into gear, the lock immediately snaps back up because of the door warning. even manually locking the door doesn't work because of the alarm. this is a safety concern both when driving but also when stationary. i want to be able to lock my car doors in the event there are safety concerns nearby so that no one can get into the car while we are in a parking lot or at a light.

First front door passenger side door had issues with door sensor staying on, even when door is shut. had repaired at my expense... now both rear doors sensors are malfunctioning. this causes the interior lights to stay on and doors not to lock. this seems like a known issue, something ford should take care of.

On my 2nd door sensor and need a 3rd..does not allow interior lights to go off and doors will not lock...every time slow down it pings... also alarm keeps coming on.

2013 ford flex right rear door shows "ajar" when door is firmly closed. appears to be a sensor that has failed to recognize the door is closed. this stops the doors from locking / alarm from working properly / interior and puddle lights from working properly. should be considered a safety issue.

Driver and front passenger door ajar warnings activate when doors are completely closed, resulting in problems with auto door lock feature, interior lights remaining on, random car alarm activation, spurious emergency flasher activation, and keyless entry panel lights remaining illuminated. also, "shift to park" warning activates when vehicle is in operation.

The driver door always says its open and the light on the inside to the car stay on until the vehicle is driven at a certain speed, the alarm also randomly comes on. the car battery stays dead because of this problem. the car will be off and the alarm will be set the alarm will sound so i cannot lock my doors.

The door ajar light comes on when the door is closed causing the interior lights to turn on. at night this is a problem. the alarm goes off at random times during the day & night. this has been going on for over a month as of 12/18/15.

On the evening of 12/18/15 (10:00pm), after starting up the car, none of the controls located on the steering wheel and steering wheel column would operate. i had no turn signals and no wipers and no cruise control. a minor inconvenience was that i could not operate any systems nor the radio from the steering wheel. after turning off the vehicle at home the car acted as though the key was still in the ignition even though it had been removed and the headlights would not turn off. i had to disconnect the battery to kill the headlights. when i reconnected the battery the following morning all systems were working again.

Both passenger door ajar sensors are malfunctioning keeping the interior lights on which is draining battery. lights will not go off until a certain speed is reached while driving.(clearly a safety issue!!!) also alarm keeps going off randomly and the frequency is increasing.

The car started smoking from the engine compartment which the battery was leaking acid from the terminal. this happened while in motion and stationary. the dealership said it was not covered under extended warranty which i thought i was given bumper to bumper warranty. passenger door sensor may be the cause. from no clear connection.

The door ajar sensor comes on when you get in and close the door.while driving the shift to park warning sensor comes on when you stop or yield.this happens over and over while driving. it's sensing door ajar therefore leaves all done lights on.if you slam door really hard sometimes lights will go off but you have to sit and watch to make sure.at night it's impossible to drive.very unsafe.sometimes i have to disconnect battery in fear of it dying and then be left stranded.they said it's the door hinge and parts are not available for 20 more days, i can't imagine dealing with this for that long for sure i'm gonna need a new battery.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that the interior lighting remained illuminated after the vehicle was shut off. in addition, the door ajar warning indicator illuminated and the interior lighting would sporadically illuminate even with no driver or passenger in the vehicle. the contact also stated the vehicle had difficulty locking while the lights were illuminated. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or manufacturer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was approximately 58,000. updated 04/20/16*lj consumer also stated rear light power locks as well updated 6/6/18*jb

Door ajar sensor started malfunctioning on the front driver door about 8 months ago and corrected itself at about the same time the front passenger door ajar sensor started malfunctioning about 3 months ago. now both are malfunctioning causing interior lights to stay on and chime to tell me to put vehicle in park at any time. this also causes the doors to automatically stay unlocked while vehicle is in motion (clearly a safety issue). i have contacted the dealer with a list of how often this happens as seen here online but they say they have never heard of this issue but will be more than happy to charge me $109.00 per hour to diagnose the issue.

Front passenger door ajar sensor malfunctioning while driving

Recently, when driving car suddenly feels as though it shifts to neutral, while driving down a busy highway. i coasted to a parking lot off of the service road, turned car off and restarted. this has happened at least twice lately. for months i have dealt with doors showing ajar, even when closed. inside lights stay on... and alarm sounds often. first it was the passenger door, now the driver door and right rear passenger door constantly say ajar. alarm sounds in the middle of the night. it has become necessary to disconnect battery cable every night in order for this not to happen. recently had to purchase new battery. passenger door was repaired at no cost to me... but dealerships want to charge me $1000 to repair door latches on driver door and rear passenger door, which on a 2013 vehicle is ridiculous. this obviously is an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed by ford... and soon!

The door ajar warning lights and sounds continue to illuminate and make noise, even when the door is closed and reclosed many times. it has become quite irritating, and the dealership 'cleaned' the sensor the first time this occurred, several months ago. now, it isn't under warranty, with nearly 40,000 miles on it, and i was informed that the part alone costs $300.00. worse yet, the part is on backorder, which indicates that this isn't an isolated incident. in fact, i located several similar complaints online while researching my alternatives. i would appreciate it if ford would own up to this defect and fix the problem for all flex owners. i had to elect not to have it fixed at this time, due to the expense and the inavailability of the part. my sanity may disagree with this decision!

While driving at night the interior lights came on and sensor said rear drivers side door ajar. since lights came on in car during the night my vision was effected. this has now become an ongoing problem and the lights will not shut off when i'm trying to lock the car. i had the car serviced and told the dealer about the issue, that said they coul not replicate the issue and if it persists they can drive the car for 30 miles to see if it goes off again.

This is the third door jam module that has went bad. drivers side door, passenger door and now the back passenger door. it says the door is not shut. ford is not wanting to own to this mess and the vendor has installed faulty door jam switches that needs to be replaced. the problem is that during the day he keeps the lights on, draining the battery. at night, while driving it leaves the inner lights on and is hard to drive with lights on this inside and at night you cannot lock your car because it sets off the car alarm. this is the last ford i will buy. please make a recall on this .

Left front door show adjar when shut

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that the passenger, driver, and liftgate door sensors were constantly illuminated. the contact stated that the doors were constantly unlocked due to the failure. in addition, the windshield wipers were constantly activated despite the weather conditions. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the door latch sensors failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 47,000.

The door front driver side door sensor went bad and tells car that door is ajar. this was replaced under warranty last year. now yesterday the same thing has happened to the front passenger side door sensor. this was quoted to me at $700. this is ridiculous for a bad door sensor that ford has put bad and faulty sensors on. i feel that i should not be liable for .the ford dealership in town said, "this is a problem with ford flex". this door ajar sensor keeps lights illuminated draining the battery, even though the door is shut. this keeps the lights on when driving, and at night makes it very very hard to see and drive. this will cause an accident due to faulty door sensors.

Passenger door sensor is telling the instrument panel that the door is open when it is shut. it will not automatically lock or allow me to lock the door when car is in motion (it pops back up). when motor is turned off the interior lights stay on for a long time indicating that the door is not shut. the frequency of this problem has worsened over the past few months.

Driver's door latch ajar sensor malfunctioning. reads "door ajar" with door closed, have to repeatedly open and close door to get the sensor to read correctly, and it still doesn't work right. anti-theft alarm will randomly engage because the sensor is telling it the door is opened after being locked.

Ithe interior lights stayed on, door sensors malfunctioned, engine power went off, and alarm would go on intermittantly. these problems happened while the car was moving and when it was parked.

Right front door latch sensor intermittently does not think door is closed and doors will not autolock and door adjar warning is present on information panel. sometimes slamming or closing gently will clear the warning, typically requires multiple attempts to clear.

I have two issues with this ford flex 1. door is completly closed but it thinks it's open, the lights stays on in cabin and distracting prompts appear on dash while driving. the car alarm sounds at night randomly because of this problem. the battery is drained over time since the lights stay on longer. 2. the trunk door does not open all they up. no mather from what button is pressed, key, trunk or from the side dash the door only opens half way and closes right back. we need to manually push the door up to completly open the trunk door, same for closing.

2013 ford flex model pos, rear passenger door ajar sensor was repaired due to being defective while under warranty around 32000 miles i believe, at roughly 45000 miles the drivers door sensor was starting to fail, it would require 2 shuts to shut off. battery kept dying, got it tested said good but kept dying, did not think it was a issue with the door, but one night i went out to get something from my truck and what do you know every light in the thing is on. why? you ask because the drivers door is apparently ajar, but its not. i replaced the battery the morning before i seen the lights issue $200 gone. contacted ford by email recieved no response, contacted via facebook and they responded that they will try to help, recieved a call the next day nope we wont help you. for a $45000 truck it sure is made of low quality material. i will not be recommending ford to anyone. worried the airbags wont deploy properly if there is an accident, if the truck thinks the door is open. not to mention the fact my battery will die anywhere i stop for a few hours.

Vehicle dash display shows that the right rear door is ajar when it is fully closed. this also causes the dome lights to stay on even when driving which is very dangerous. this seems to be a very common problem from the posts i have seen on the internet.

We have a 2013 ford flex limited and we bought it used with 50000 miles and when we bought it the door sensor was bad the dealer ship said they would fix it 7 months of fighting them and then they decided to fix it so here i am siting in the dealer ship ready to pick up my car and now they tell me another door sensor is bad this is dangerous do to the light staying on at night this needs to be recalled by ford and fixed right.

When the door is shut the car thinks it is open, the lights stay on in cabin and distracting prompts appear on dash while driving. the car alarm sounds at night randomly now too with this problem. the battery is drained over time as the lights stay on for a long period of time every time you park. this results in a dead battery and a stranded driver.

At the beginning of may 2015 when i would start driving my 2013 ford flex i would get the door ajar chime for the passenger side door and all of my doors would unlock. i have just dealt with it, but now my passenger side rear door is doing the same thing and they both say the door are ajar all of the time. i cannot activate my alarm at night or my alarm randomly goes off and my dome light foes t go off for hours! my doors do not lock when i am driving at all! it sounds like this is a issue for a lot of people. i was just looking for a fix and ran across this sight. it is ridiculous that ford has not done anything!!!

Driver side door ajar sign is on when door is securely closed. inside lights stay on. *tr

Driver's side door is fully closed yet the "door ajar" warning light comes on and remains on. this warning light will thus turn on the interior lights. we need to open and close the door approximately (7) times on average before the warning light and the interior lights recognize the door is closed, then the warning and lights turn off. this type of incident has occurred while in park and while driving.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while driving at 55 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump and battery needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact stated that after the repairs, the vehicle failed to start. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 60,000.

-passenger door, rear passenger door, and hatch door ajar signal stays on when door is closed. -interior light stays on -alarms goes off in the middle of the night -faulty latch -ignition key switch dings until i put key in and turn key back and forth

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while parked, the contact heard a chime and the door ajar warning light illuminated even though the doors were closed. the contact had to remove the bulbs in the instrument panel to prevent the light from illuminating. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 50,000. the vin was unavailable.

Close the passanger door and the warning door ajar flashes and chimes on the dash panel, also the dome light stays on. have to close the door sometimes 5 or 6 times to get it to off. updated 09/15/15*lj updated 11/07/2017*cn

Door ajar sensor ,lights stay on, doors wont lock. *tr

Start date is a best guess. i original reported this problem when my front passenger door began giving false door ajar warnings. now it is all doors and occurs more frequently setting off car alarm, interior lights that won't go out, etc etc.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. when the doors were closed, the door ajar warning indicator illuminated and the interior lighting illuminated continuously. the contact also stated that the doors did not lock and the alarm did not activate when prompted. the failures recurred continuously. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The driver door sensor does not recognize when door is closed. it is showing that it is ajar. this in turn affects the vehicle in a myriad of ways. 1:it disables the autolock feature. i have 3 kids in the backseat, and one of them curiously opened the door while at a traffic stop. 2:interior dome lighting: it keeps the lights on. i have astigmatism so the light really bothers me. 3:since the lights stay on when parked, it drains the battery 4:the unlocking sensor is disabled on the door handle that is affected. please investigate! the locking feature is a major safety issue!!!!

Door ajar warning lights when door is securely closed. this is a know issue with several ford service bulletins issued. there are definite safety concerns as the following also occurs: dome light stays on while driving making it difficult to see interior lights stay on when leaving vehicle allowing easy viewing of interior and possible battery drainage all doors will not lock (unacceptable) this is a major safety concern the false warning keeps driver from knowing if there is in fact a true door ajar situation ford refuses to fix this under warranty saying the door latch (which the door ajar switch is an integral part) is a "wear and tear" part and therefore not cover by warranty. this is an issue on many ford vehicles including flex, edge, explorer and taurus. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that the rear passenger door warning light remained illuminated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

After closing the driver's door, the door ajar light is on, as are the interior lights. the interior lights stay on for awhile after i start to drive which blinds me at night, but the only way to get the interior lights to shut off is to start driving. major safety issue.

the front passenger door ajar warning began showing while i was sitting in my driveway and the door has not been touched in fact there was not even a passenger in my vehicle. i tried opening and shutting the door several times and when this problem began and for about the first month the warning would reset. since then the warning is present approximately 70% of the time. when the door ajar morning is active the interior lights stay on at low speed and regardless of speed you're unable to lock the doors. these issues are when the door ajar morning is active the interior lights stay on at low speed and regardless of speed you're unable to lock the doors which cause obvious safety and security issues as well as the added danger of not being aware of an actual door ajar. i took my flex to summerville ford and they acknowledge being aware of multiple ford models with the same issue, apologized for not being able to fix the issue without my paying for it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that while the vehicle was in motion, the door ajar light illuminated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer. the technician diagnosed the door latch sensor needed to be replaced. the repairs were not made to the vehicle. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 34,000.

2013 ford flex door ajar light illuminates and chimes preventing driver from locking doors as the alert unlocks all doors while vehicle is in motion and turns the interior lights on. issue occurs intermittently and ford reps, while acknowledging the issue as common in the ford edge and ford flex refuse to change the faulty door sensor switch opting to charge customers $600+ to remove and replace the flawed design. currently the sensor alerts us 10 to 15 times during a 30 minute ride. *tr

I own a 2013 ford flex sel. the door ajar light comes on when all doors are closed completely. this is a safety issue because the doors do not lock while driving. the lights don't shut off and the car tells me to shift in to park. on the personal side the lights stay on while parked and the bell rings as if the door is ajar. i can not utilize the remote start. i would agree it's normal wear and tear if it was only my car. i have search online and it seems to be a ford problem. *tr
