We have classified the 173 complaints from 2013 Ford Flex about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
Door ajar warning - passenger door electrical problem showing the door is open all of the time. since the car thinks the door is open, the car will not lock while in motion. putting all passengers in the car in danger. it also keeps the internal lamps on because the car thinks the door is open causing the battery life to decrease at a quicker rate.
There is a 115v power outlet in the console in front of the back seat for use by back seat occupants. the cover for this comes off very easily leaving the 115 v brass metal electrical contacts exposed. back seat occupants can easily receive an electric shock if they touch these exposed contacts.
Front passenger door ajar sensor not working. door reports being open when it's not. interior lights stay on, draining battery, interfering with driving. happens when 1st getting into car, but also during operation. happening nearly all the time now.
This 2013 ford flex has experienced several electrical, mechanical, and lighting issues. all 5 door latches, door sensors, car's alarm system, and battery has failed. the car's bcm has reported intermittent door ajar alarms. this effects the car's door locks as well as the car's dome light and car's alarm system. at no point will the car's doors lock while the car is in drive. so any child can open up a door while the car is in motion. the dome light comes on causing a vision glare at night. twice my wife has almost pulled out in front of oncoming motoris at night, do to the light glare within the car. because the car's dome light comes on intermittently, the car's battery drains down while parked. you cannot set the car's alarm without the door sensors setting the car's alarm system off. my local ford dealership has replaced all 5 door latches and sensors, the car battery, and the bcm at a financial loss to me at $1700.00. at no point has ford offered to help with these issues. now...it's time for the nhtsa to act and help protect the consumers before a tragedy strikes. luckily....i had the money to fix these issues to protect my family of six. thank you!
While the car is both parked and in motion, the door sensor incorrectly states that the rear passenger door is ajar. this has happened during the day and at night. it has also happened while temperatures were above and below freezing. it seems to be a systemic issue. since the door sensors are connected to the lighting system, it affects interior lighting of the vehicle. it also affects locking and security mechanisms on the vehicle. this problem is widely reported on the internet. i haven't taken pictures of the issue yet, but i can easily get them since this problem happens so frequently.
My vehicle's "door ajar" sensor will not turn off even when all doors are securely closed. this is resulting in my lights staying on for a very long time and the worst thing is that my doors won't stay locked at anytime. what's happening now is that when i lock the doors after exiting the car, the alarm will go off after a certain period of time, therefore, i have to leave the car unlocked or keep an ear out for it. i have tried manually locking the doors while i'm driving and the door locks will automatically unlock themselves. i don't feel safe knowing that someone could just jump in my car or open one of my back doors where my two children sit. i'm also fearful of my battery dying as a direct result of my dome lights staying on for such a long time every single day. i'm dreading the thought of this happening while with my kids and being left stranded. i wish ford would take this issue more serious. there is absolutely no need for something tragic to happen in order for corrective action to be taken.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. when the vehicle was started, the "driver door ajar" warning indicator illuminated and beeped. when the vehicle was in drive, a "shift to park" warning indicator illuminated and seized until the vehicle was stopped. the failures were not diagnosed. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the failure recurred. the failure mileage was 79,000.
The door latches and/or sensors do not function properly. they are constantly saying the doors are ajar when they are not. i filed a report in july and was told it was not a saftey issue. i beg to differ when i cannot lock my doors and the interior lights will not go off. its been a year of dealing with this, i finally broke down and took it to the dealership to pay $200 to have the sensors clean with the "special tool" that only they had. i did that only after having to spend another $150 on a new battery that was drained from the interior lights coming on and off all night long because of this issue. i had the sensors cleaned in november and now in february the problem is begining all over again!
A both passenger side doors fail to detect being shut. this prevents the doors from automatically being locked when driving and present a hazard in the kids are able to open doors in back by simply pulling the handle.
The driver's door latch does not read the door is shut, keeping the doors from being locked while the car is driven. also makes lights stay on so it kills the battery.
The door sensor is not functional causing the car to think the door is adjar causing issues with the battery, security system and owner safety. ford is charging 600 for parts and labor to install a new version knowing that the previous one is defective.
Door sensor indicates the door is open when it is closed. at times, the door is prevented from closing when a mechanism drops within the door panel. an item has to be placed in to push the mechanism up to allow the door to close. the door sensor mechanism, when it indicates the door is close although it is open, prevents the car doors from being locked.
The door ajar sensor stays on even after the door is shut. two doors have had this issue repaired already in the past, now a previously repaired door and another door are coming up on the dash screen as door ajar. this causes the interior dome lights to come on, which drains the battery and the alarm to randomly go off at night while the alarm is set and the door "opens and closes" as the car car is thinking is happening without disarming first. the dome light also stays on for about 30 seconds while driving, which is distracting at night. the doors will no longer automatically lock while driving either since the car thinks the doors are open. this seems to be a common issue that needs to be addressed beyond ford.
The door latches kept failing when this happens you get an indication that the door is ajar, this sets off the alarm with operates the flashing lights and will kill the battery if let to so far i,ve changed three latch and a lift gate with no end in sight
The door ajar light won't go off when the door is closed when car is stationary or moving . the dome lights stay on while driving and while off . it , drains battery and automatic locks won't engage while car is on and moving. my kids can open doors while driving . it also causes the car alarm to go off ! *tr
Driver side door warning keeps lighting up and beeping. the door is not ajar, but constantly getting the message to put it in park and re-shut the door, even while driving. interior lights now not working properly because the car thinks the driver door is constantly ajar. interior lights no longer come on when i open the door, only when key is in the ignition. they take 20-30 minutes to shut off now after the car is shut off. *tr
Right front side door is shown ajar. interior lights remain on. very dangerous do drive at night. battery will run down since lights will not turn off. on line string indicates very high incidence of faulty door switches.
I am having multiple problems with this vehicle! first and most important is door latches are not reading closed which disallows safety lock during operation of the vehicle. i also believe this might be the reason the alarm/panic randomly and quite often goes off. secondly the third row seats no longer operate correctly from the panel in the rear cargo area. it clicks and try's to move but will always return to the normal position making it impossible to use them to allow extra storage space. lastly the traction assist is very erratic when driving in snow which makes this vehicle less then desirable to drive in the snow, even with the control assist off it handles very poorly in icy/snowy conditions. overall i hate this car if i wasn't upside down in it would be gone asap.
The issues arises when the door latch and integrated sensor fail to recognize the door being closed properly. a display on the dash will inform the driver of the which door is "ajar". the vehicle will not chime and interior lights will turn off if the vehicle is put in drive and driven. the safety concern is that the vehicle will now not allow the doors to locked while parked or in motion. an invited person could enter the vehicle at a light or an the event of a serious collision the door may come ajar. a search of the internet will reveal this is a common issue and ford has even redesigned the part because it is aware of this flaw.
Instrument cluster indicates (1) or more doors open despite all doors being closed. occasionally, slamming door(s) will resolve; other times, lightly closing will satisfy the door switch. cold and wet weather seems to aggravate the issue...numerous times in which the door switch could not be satisfied, resulting in dome light staying on while driving, making night time driving very dangerous. issue has been on-going for past ~3 months. each door switch is approximately $500/ea, plus labor to install. dozens and dozens of other consumers mention similar problems per internet search. several of those consumers have indicated that replacement parts fail after short service time, too.
Driver door shows ajar when door is closed. causes dinging noise when driving. and alarm to go off randomly when unattended. makes driving at night dangerous because the interior lights stay on until vehicle has accelerated. door will not lock correctly because of condition. this is a saftey issue
Both front door sensors indicate that the door is open when it is not, and this prevents the child safety locks from being engaged. the doors will not lock when the door sensor says that it is open. this happens with the car is in motion as well as when it is off. when it is off and this happens the alarm sounds.
Recurring problem with the door switches. the switches fail, telling the car that a door is open, causing the dome lights to remain on while driving. this is a major safety concern at night as it is difficult to see with interior lights on. this also causes a constant drain on the battery when the car is parked as the sensor indicates the door is open, causing the lights to remain on. *tr
Car reports that the driver door is ajar when closed. apparently a common issue with several ford models, some have been recalled. dealer identified the issue and replaced the latch. this was not under warranty.
The driver door ajar message will come on while driving down the road which causes all the interior lights to come on as well. i have to pull over and open and shut the door several times and finally it recognizes the door is actually shut. this seems to be a common problem with this vehicle yet ford will not do anything about it.
Passenger door sensor shows that the door is open, even when door is securely closed. this causes safety issues as well as a drain on the battery and the inability to enable the theft alarm. this is not an isolated issue as my research has shown that many other owners have the same problem. this needs to be recalled and fixed by ford.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and stalled numerous times without warning. the contact was able to order the fuel pump electronic module from the dealer. the part was replaced and the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and indicated that the vehicle was excluded from a manufacturer recall. the approximate failure mileage was 94,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex, while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the code ep0627, the fuel pump control circuit open, and fuel vapor leaked and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 15v8120000 (fuel system, gasoline). the manufacturer was not aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 56,241.
For over a month and a half now, when driving spontaneously the door ajar indicator lights up, the chimes alert, the interior lights stays on and all doors unlock, and if you try to lock them again while driving they will unlock 5 seconds later; you need to completely stop the car and don't drive in order to lock them, but the door ajar lights stay on even if the door is closed, so when you start driving again the car will unlock the doors and the warning beeps and lights will be with you all the time while you drive. being a family car, this is a major issue having small kids seating in the back. last year i contacted ford customer care and they were supposed to take care of that and replace it, but instead they just cleaned the area and that's it, it fixed for a while, but the problem is repeating again. now, because i'm out of warranty they want to charge $500 to get it fixed, when is a problem that is well known by them.
2013 ford flex sel. the door ajar warning light stays on. the front passenger door latch is faulty. with the door closed, the warning light stays on and the auto locks do not work now.
In the drivers door, the switch in the door lock assembly sticks and sends a signal to the car that the door is ajar even when it is fully shut. when it first started happening you could slam the door a few times to get it to work.
Several door latch sensors malfunctioning. they state "door ajar" when doors are closed. prevents doors from locking while operating vehicle.
Passenger door, rear passenger door, and hatch door ajar signal stays on when door is closed. -interior light stays on -alarms goes off in the middle of the night -faulty latch *the dome light stays on and creates a night driving hazard. *it creates a safety hazard when the dome lights stays on and i am sitting in a public area at night. *the false door ajar signal prevents me from recognizing a real door ajar situation, which is very dangerous. *the doors sometimes may or may not not lock. windshield wipers randomly turn on.
Door agar sensor is stuck in the door open position. this causes the electric lock system to not lock the doors. when you manually push the lock down it just pops back up. it also keeps the dome lights on. thousands of these vehicles are experiencing this exact problem. this happens stationary or moving.
Vehicle displays rear right passenger door is ajar. the door is actually closed. does not matter if vehicle is stationary or in motion. automatic door locks will not activate when in motion. interior lights stay on until vehicle has been in motion for a little bit. interior and exterior lights will come on randomly while vehicle is unattended, even when garaged.
Door latch assembly defective. doors will not lock when engine is running. results in constant dinging of door ajar alarm and dome lights on. seat belts become unbuckled spontaneously in middle bench seat while in motion. have had to replace two of them. very dangerous situation for our kids.
The driver's side door sensor broke from normal use after 3 years. this prevents the door from locking, and also dings during driving.
The door ajar warning light is always on even though the door is shut. the door can be opened while the car is moving which is dangerous. i was told that this is a known issue with the flex and the entire latch assembly would need to be replaced. why isn't this safety issue being dealt with by ford? *tr
Door ajar lights continuously show on when all doors are closed. my interior lights will not go off and impairs my vision at night. also because the ajar warnings are on my doors will not lock. i try to manually lock them and they automatically unlock while im driving. not good while i have my 4 children in the car!
-passenger door, rear passenger door, and hatch door ajar signal stays on when door is closed. -interior light stays on -alarms goes off in the middle of the night -faulty latch -ignition key switch dings until i put key in and turn key back and forth
The door front driver side door sensor went bad and tells car that door is ajar. this was replaced under warranty last year. now yesterday the same thing has happened to the front passenger side door sensor. this was quoted to me at $700. this is ridiculous for a bad door sensor that ford has put bad and faulty sensors on. i feel that i should not be liable for .the ford dealership in town said, "this is a problem with ford flex". this door ajar sensor keeps lights illuminated draining the battery, even though the door is shut. this keeps the lights on when driving, and at night makes it very very hard to see and drive. this will cause an accident due to faulty door sensors.
Vehicle acts like the driver's side door is ajar even when the door is closed. it does not matter how hard the door is shut. this causes the vehicle to chime as if door is open anytime your speed is less than 5 miles an hour. it also pops up messages and warnings to shift to park when traveling 5mph or less. the vehicle is equipped with touch unlock. this is useless now because the vehicle thinks the door is opened. this is not only an aggravation but a safety issue because it is very distracting when driving in city traffic. this happened to the vehicle with 60,000 miles on it. this started when i stopped at a stop sign in the city. i tried to open and reshut the door thinking maybe i had not closed it hard enough.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford flex. while operating the vehicle, a warning indicator erroneously illuminated, which indicated both the rear driver and passenger side doors were unsecured. the interior lighting remained illuminated inside the vehicle. upon inspection, is was also discovered that the battery cable line was corroded. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 80,000. updated 01/10/2017*ct consumer stated both right and left passenger doors in back does not close right. updated 7/9/18*jb *tr
3 out of the 4 doors on the flex will not lock, i called ford again today and was told we are not a part of the 2.4 million cars recalled. my children cannot lock the doors while we are traveling and it is very concerning to us, ford suggested i pay for new locks and if we are recalled they will reimburse me.
2013 ford flex door ajar switch keeps door locks from locking. when manually locking doors they immediately pop back up. also the dome light stays lite, making night time driving dangerous. this is a very common problem with this vehicle.
When my car was under warranty driver door would say door ajar and all locks would open when the door was closed - they fixed had to fix door sensor now my other doors are doing the same and we are out of warranty - this is a safety issue when driving at night and your door locks open at a stop light anyone can carjack or jump in your car, will not let me kids use my car - the car dealership told me they have so many flex repairs of this same issue.
Rear right side door latch ajar sensor malfunctioning. reads "door ajar" with door closed. interior dome lights stay on. hard to drive at night with interior dome lights on. door latch has been replaced once before by ford dealer. problem has returned.
False door ajar indicator. door is securely closed but sensor regularly indicates it is ajar. this happens when the vehicle is stationary and when it is moving.
Passenger side door is telling vehicle that is not shutting , lights stay on door will not lock, this has gotten worse over the last month sometimes have to open and shut up,to 15 times to get light to go out. vehicle is garaged kept so this is not a hot or cold, raining issues happens in all climates.
The doors are always saying they are ajar and they are not. i have taken it to the dealership they took out one sensor on my door and then after that two others went off and now they continue to go off. my lights will stay on for about 10 minutes and they will finally shut off and sometimes they shut off turn back on and then my alarm goes off in the middle of the night most of the time. i'll shut it off lock it make sure all the doors are locked and then i will go back out and the alarms are going back off. again all the doors are shut the car's been sitting there for probably about 3 to 4 hours and i'm pretty sure that the lights keep going on and off after a while the alarm starts going off. it is draining my battery my battery is going bad because of it i don't know what else to do. i need this fixed. i work at the hospital and we have to park our cars a couple miles away so if my cars going off i have no idea there has been several times that i have had to get my car boosted because my battery was dead.
