The ford five hundred i own has surges of acceleration when i am inching my way into a parking spot or forward loser to a wall or another car. i have to quickly slam on my brakes to avoid hitting something. i fear at some point it may be a person. the problem has been going on for a while but i was never able to reproduce it for a mechanic. i have made a connection to hot weather and the car's air conditioning being on. i fear this is not safe. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. the contact stated as she accelerated from a traffic light the vehicle would suddenly accelerate causing the rpms to increase excessively. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed the throttle body as being defective. the repair cost was $900. the manufacturer was contacted but offered no assistance. the failure mileage was 67,673.

While putting the ford five hundred in reverse the car briefly accelerated and lunged backwards barley missing another car. thinking i might had hit the accelerator i went on to where i was headed. as i was leaving my destination once again the car just took off while in reverse. the car then gave a wrench fault on the console. i looked up the issue in the manual and it said it was a throttle control issue. i spoke with the dealer today and they said it was a throttle body problem. upon investigation i find that this is a recurring issue. if someone had been within 3 to 5 feet of my auto i would have hit them.

2006 ford five hundred sel on several occasions our 2006 ford five hundred has accelerated while pulling into a parking spot in a parking lot or into our garage. this usually occurs while our foot is on the brake at idle speed. acceleration varies from mild to very noticeable by the passengers. concerned about hitting pedestrians or other vehicles or losing control of vehicle. *kb

2006 ford five hundred surging at low speed when putting into drive and reverse. this problem gas occurred on many occasions with near misses on parking and pedestrians and my research has found it to be an issue with the throttle body control. when is this agency going to help the consumer in a case against ford?? its been happening since 2005 on many of theses models??? *kb

My 2006 ford five hundred will suddenly lunge forward then sputter and die. it will also do this when backing out of parking spots. there is a brief "wrench" dash light that comes on. this has happened while sitting at red lights and could be deadly. code says failed throttle body. why no part recall? widespread problems have been reported on the web and apparently the same part is still being used. please look into this before lives are lost. *tr

When going slow like pulling into and out of a parking space or going through school line, car will "surge" or lunge unexpectedly. very unsafe for the people and vehicles nearby. *tr

Car accelerates suddenly without having foot on accelerator. it only happens in warm weather when the air conditioning is on. with my foot on the breaking when backing out of a parking space or pulling into garage the car suddenly accelerates. i can handle the problem because i know when to expect it, but i had planned to give this car to my soon to be licensed daughter and i don't want her having an accident or hitting another person. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle came to a complete stop while the brake pedal was engaged and the vehicle lunged forward with hesitation. the identical failure occurred fifteen times. during the most recent failure, the engine warning indicator illuminated until the engine was turned off. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the throttle body assembly would need to be replaced. the contact planned to have the vehicle repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

No injuries...yet. however, our 2006 ford five hundred accelerates for no apparent reason at all. it does it when going forward or reverse and will stop by either tapping the accelerator pedal or turning off the car and restarting it. i will be bringing the car in for service this week, but just want to bring this problem to your attention as it seems other individuals have reported the same situation. *tr

I have a 2006 ford five hundred, and it has recently the engine accelerates the vehicle during low speeds in forward and reverse, while approaching an intersection with foot on brake. this has happens continuously. i am not sure what to do. i have read the other complaints and it seems that ford is not interested in solving the problem. read more: http://www.faqs.org/car/ford-five-hundred-2006/fuel-system/#recalls_0#ixzz1u0a0pmoy *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. the contact stated that when putting the vehicle in reverse, the engine would exhibit an unusual increase in rpms of up to 2500 and the vehicle would lunge in reverse. the vehicle would also lunge forward when attempting to park the vehicle. a local mechanic diagnosed that the throttle body needed replacing but the failure was not repaired. the failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 80,000. the vin was unavailable.

5/20-7/18/11 car accelerated quickly and lurched backward with brake on while backing out of parking space; wrench light came on. error codes were for alternative fuel control module and throttle actuator control system. sometimes car lurched forward while braking, engine revved, car shuddered, and wrench and/or check engine light came on. started happening almost daily. very scary and unpredictable. mass air flow sensor and egr valve were replaced. had same issues 2 days later. throttle body and vacuum hoses were replaced. contacted ford and they refused to cover parts and labor because car was no longer under warranty. last repair was done 30 days ago and i've had no more problems, but it cost me $1600 to repair.

Car lunges when coming to a stop or backing. took car in for an oil change and brake job. when i picked my car up, it was running rough sometimes stalling when letting off the accelerator. in addition to spontaneously lurching forward, the engine will race when put into park. i have come close to hitting other cars, parking garage walls, etc due to this problem. my dealership now is telling me the throttle body is not within the proper parameters and needs replacement. after some research this seems to be a common problem. *tr

Starting since february 2010. my car lunges forward whenever at a dead stop. when shifting to drive and reverse. i have had to have my foot on brake and even almost had an accident while parking and hit the wall. went to dealership and first they said it was my engine mount that was causing it. then went again because the problem still occurred and they said i needed a new battery. then they claimed it was my air filter which is a lie. i called the ford headquarters and all they can do is take down when i called and what it was about. they are no help what so ever so what is the point of them even existing if they cant help solve the problem. they claim each dealer is independent and that they can advise that i go to a different dealership. i have wasted a good deal of time and money. luckily i was smart and bought that premium extended warranty. i still have spent close to over $400 on repairs. each time i went i had to pay a deductible of $100.00. the battery i went to sams club to get because the dealer wanted $140 but i got mine for $75. they advised to get my throttle body clean and that was $95. they said i need to have my transmission flushed which is another lie. i didn't get that done because i only have 60,000 miles on the vehicle. the transmission fluid was as red as can be and is still good for probably another 40,000 miles. the point is ford knows about the problem and they do not want to fix the problem it apparently is happening to tons of folks out there. they need to just fix it because even though i had my throttle body cleaned the problem still comes back here and there. i just hope that no one gets killed and then ford will finally get this right. i plan on seeing if i can get some legal help and will explore that avenue because i get my oil changes almost ever 3500 miles and i follow all the manufactures service policies. i do my part as a customer and they haven't done there part as the company that made the vehicle. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred limited. the contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled. the contact was able to restart the vehicle after multiple attempts. the vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was informed that the throttle box was the cause for failure. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 82,000. the vin was unavailable.

The vehicle lurches forward and has stalled on a busy street. the car was taken to a mechanic where the owner was told that the problem was the throttle body, but it was safe to drive until the repair could be made. the repair has not yet been made. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. while driving approximately 35 mph, the contact attempted to increase speed , but vehicle would not accelerate. the contact continued to apply pressure to the accelerator pedal. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technicians stated the egr valve, the throttle body and the mass flow air sensor needed to be replaced. the technician stated that he could not guarantee that the failure would not occur again after the repairs. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 78,000.

I own a 2006 ford fivehundred. from the very beginning, my car has lunged/surged forward and backwards. i called ford corporate office on three various occasions to file a complaint and ask for a repair. each time i was told that ford was not responsible for determining the problem. on sept. 27, 2010, at a stop light, the car surged to 3000 rpm's and i was scared. i kept my foot on the brake, but i thought at that speed, the brake may fail. i was going to turn the car off, but instead, i turned the air conditioner off and the surging was reduced to 1000 rpm's. this is a very dangerous situation. what is ford waiting for? the car needs to be recalled and repairs made, before a major accident and law suits ensue. *tr

I have a 2006 ford fivehundred, it has been lunging when put in gear and even sometimes just as you let your foot off the brake. this is very dangerous since i almost rear ended someone while waiting in line at the drive through. last week it starting to act as if it wanted to stall. i took it to the ford garage and they stated i will need the throttle body replaced and it will cost $770 to fix it and the part is on back order. after some research, i found that alot of people with this car are having this problem. *tr

I'm not sure if this is a power train or other problem, car lurches dangerously at low speeds, and when changing gear into and out of reverse. i hit a post parking in august of 2010 due to this, and it's been getting gradually worse. took it to the dealer who replaced a broken upper motor mount that was connected to the transmission. didn't help, although it seemed like a good guess at the time. it helps to keep foot firmly on brake when changing gear or holding still, while the car tries to lurch forward (or back) with unplanned acceleration. seems to be getting increasingly worse and now i don't feel it's safe to let anyone else drive it, like at valet parking. taking it back to dealer tomorrow, but we let warranty expire recently darn it. we get so many fake spam warranty-expiring phone calls that i got confused and dropped the ball. throttle control module may be giving false signal to carburetor, not sure what it is. *kb

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. while stopped at a light the contact noticed that the vehicle had suddenly accelerated without warning. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. the vehicle has not been repaired and there were no prior warnings. the failure mileage was 78000 and the current mileage is 80000. updated 12/22/10 *bf updated 12/23/10*jb

Many months ago my 2006 ford five hundred began jerking forward (accelerating) when switching gears from reverse to drive. over the months the problem has gotten worse and accelerates very quickly when going into drive gear. it accelerates so quickly it could easily cause me to run into something. took to ford service station and told the throttle (throttle body maybe?) needed to be replaced and that it was unsafe to drive until fixed. the part is on back order for two months! the part is $800. now i'm paying for a car that i can't even drive for two months. many people have complained online about the same type of problem and apparently there is a big problem with it if the part is on backorder for 2 months since so many people have ordered it. *tr

On july 17, 2010, my 2006 ford 500 began to lurch/surge forward/ backward depending on whether i was in drive or reverse. took the car to ford immediately. they reprogrammed the pcm. it was not covered by the extended warranty. yesterday, august 6, 2010, my car began doing the same thing. took car back to same dealer. they suggested it might be the throttle body. research showing this is a common problem with this vehicle (and has been for some time). *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. the contact was driving at 45 mph. the contact depressed the brake pedal and when released, the vehicle began to abnormally accelerate. in addition, the vehicle would abnormally jerk when attempting to park. the dealer advised that the throttle body would need to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 44,000. the consumer stated the transmission would bang into drive and reverse. the dealer found the throttle body causing the issue, which was replaced. updated 10/26/10

After starting car in garage and idling for about 30 seconds, i put car in reverse to back out of garage. the engine rpm's increased significantly, and the car shot backwards until i applied the brake. the car stopped and engine rpm returned to normal. this has happened several times. i am the second owner of the car, and i purchased the car from a private party with about 104,000 miles on it. in speaking with the previous owner, he also had problems that he attributed to the cruise control whereby the vehicle sped up without pressing on the gas pedal. the original owner purchased the car from gentry ford in ontario, or, and had every service performed there. i, too, have returned the car to gentry ford for every service, but have not discussed this problem with them, the previous owner did tell them about the problem he experienced. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. the contact stated that the vehicle surged forward while his foot was on the brake pedal. the rpms also increased and caused the vehicle to lunge forward. when the vehicle began to slow down the rpms increased and caused the vehicle to stall. the dealer stated that the failure was caused by the throttle body. the dealer also stated that at this time ford does not have the part to repair the vehicle. the contact did not have the vin when the complaint was filed. the failure mileage and current mileages were 74000.

After having been driven for 30-45 min, the car was parked with motor running for 5-10 min. got back in car, put foot on break pedal, shifted car into reverse, lifted foot off break pedal and car suddenly lurched backwards. slammed breaks on and car shut off. car had no problem cranking right up. did the same thing again, only this time i had it in drive. hit the breaks, car dies again. this has happened a few times while sitting in line at a fast food drive-thru and have almost hit cars infront of me when i go to move up in the line. if you turn the car all the way off, it will reset and not have any problems until the next time it decides to do it again. i seem to be able to elicit the problem by driving the car for 30 or so minutes, stopping and letting the car sit and idle for 5-10 minutes. bingo- it happens. ford dealership says it is the throttle body on my 2006 ford five hundred and i actually had it replaced in 2007 at approx 23,000 miles (i now have 69,500 miles). car is awd. thank god i have an extended warranty until 75,000 miles that will cover this but it seems the part to fix it is on backorder and they are not sure when it will be available (that is ridiculous considering how much i have read about "throttle body issues" with this car.) i think it should be a recall issue since you could easily hit something infront or behind you. thanks for letting me inform you of this problem. *tr

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. when the contact attempted to stop the vehicle it began to lunge forward. extreme pressure was applied to the brake pedal in order to keep the vehicle from surging forward. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the motor mounts and throttle body needed to be replaced. an authorized dealer informed her that this was very common failure among her year, make and model vehicle. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 69,000 and the current mileage was 74,000. updated 11/05/10. *lj

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. the contact stated that while at a complete stop and having his foot on the brake pedal and then letting go the vehicle would surge. the contact had to force pressure on the brakes in order to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was then taken to the dealer to have it diagnosed and they stated that the body throttle control needed to be replaced. there have been no repairs due to the back order on the part. the failure mileage was 37200 and the current mileage was 37419. updated 10/25/10 *bf updated 10/27/10 *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. the contact stated that the vehicle would abnormally stall or jerk violently when driving at various speeds. the contact also experienced abnormal surging, which would occur frequently. the dealer advised that the throttle body had gone into failsafe mode, causing the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the vin was unavailable. the failure mileage was approximately 90,000 and the current mileage was approximately 96,000. updated 12/7/10 *cn

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. while driving approximately 30-35 mph the vehicle accelerated rapidly. he engaged the brakes immediately to stop the vehicle from accelerating. the failure occurred 7 to 8 times and the failure also happened while driving in reverse. he called the dealer and was advised that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 73,000 and the current mileage was 75,000.

I have owned my 2006 ford 500 for 5 yrs and have had and issue for the last 2 yrs. while braking, the car will lurch and i mean really jump forward (or also in reverse) while rpm's surge/rev extremely high causing me to press very, very hard on the brakes at times slamming down to keep the car from going out of control by itself. sometimes the car will stall when the rpm's are dropping down. this happens at different times of day and seems to be more often when it is warmer. it has happened while slowing into a parking space, backing up, pulling away from stopping at a light or stop sign. it is completely random and you never know when or if it will happen.i am always extremely cautious when there are people around when i slow down to less then 15mph or back up. there is something mechanically wrong with this car. it should never be in control of moving by itself when the brakes are applied. it is a very scary situation and can happen multiple times a day. i have taken in to dealership and explained these "symptoms" but they just say they don't know what it could be and will have to check it out while it is happening. i would like ford to take some responsibility as this seems to be happening to most 500's and it is well known by many but not acknowledged by ford. this could be a very serious situation if someone is within 15ft when the car goes out of control all by itself and the driver is not ready. please watch out if you are next to a ford 500. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. while attempting to reverse out of a parking space with the brakes applied, the vehicle accelerated abnormally. the failure would occur intermittently while in reverse. the dealer diagnosed the failure at the throttle body assembly, which he advised was on back order. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 79,000 and the current mileage was 83,000. updated 11/16/10. *lj

2010 driving on highway in virginia, car was accelerating on it's own, it was like the car was in control and not the driver. pulled over and car stalled, engine light came on. took car to ford dealer was told throttle control assembly. 52,200 miles had it replaced. contacted ford oct 2010. november 2012 ford issue customer satisfaction program, finally reimbursed 2013. july 2014, 100,457miles same problem again had to again replace throttle control system. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. the contact was braking to a complete stop when the vehicle attempted to accelerate abnormally. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they advised that the throttle body was defective and would need replacing. the vehicle was left with the dealer where the contact was awaiting repairs. the failure mileage was 40,000 and the current mileage was 48,600.

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. the contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle accelerated unexpectedly when shifted into reverse or drive. the vehicle was taken to the dealer but the manufacturer was not contacted. the vehicle was not repaired and the vin was unknown. the failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 87,000.

I have a 06' ford five hundred that i purchased certified used in 07'. within a few months i started experiencing surging problems especially when the a/c was running. the dealer replaced the instrument cluster in 08' but did not fix the problem. on each return to the dealership they could not fix the problem. on my last visit to the dealer they cleaned the throttle body and said that would fix the problem. this did not fix the problem and they could not diagnose the problem. this problem has caused me to rearend a vehicle in 2009. ford is not responding to the problem at all. after 3+ years of trying to figure out what the problem is i all but have given up. that is until today when the repair shop that i use on a regular basis hired a new mechanic who was able to diagnose the problem. the problem turns out to be the throttle position sensors in the throttle body. it took the mechanic over 2 hours to get to the bottom of the problem. the unfortunate thing is the cost of a new throttle body is over $500 then add labor. if i have the throttle body replaced there is no guarantee from ford that the new throttle body won't do the same thing. it is obvious that ford has a problem with the throttle body and is not willing to resolve the issue and back their products. *kb

Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. while driving approximately between 45-50 mph he applied pressure to the accelerator pedal, but the vehicle would not accelerate. then the vehicle began to rapidly accelerate. the failure occurred frequently. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection. the failure was related to the throttle body. the technician stated the part was unavailable until january 22,2010. the failure mileage was 45,800. the current mileage was 46,200.

Tl*the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. when attempting to enter a parking space, the vehicle accelerated and stalled; however, he was able to restart the vehicle immediately. the vehicle was taken to a repair facility and the oxygen sensor and the throttle body were replaced. since the throttle body was on back order the component was exchanged with a used part. the failure and current mileages were 37,699.

As i was backing out of a parking space in a parking garage the enigine reved up and jumped hitting a beam in the garage. upon impact the engine was still reved so i immediately turned the engine off and back on. the engine continued to rev up and the check engine and yellow wrench illuminated. the car was towed to a dealership in which they replaced the throttle body and the car was driven to a local body shop for repairs. total cost over $1200 yesterday, september 7, 2011, (mileage 108000 and speed from 0-40 mph) as i was driving to work the check engine light came on. each time i would stop the engine would rev and when i would accelerate it would jump and rev. not wanting a repeat of the last accident, i took it to a mechanic near work who stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced again along with the engine mount. total cost $1076 after resaerching this problem it seems that it is a typical issue with this type of vehicle. most have included that they are fearful that they will be injured or injure someone else in a accident. *tr
