I purchased my car 7/31/2012 with 113,000 miles. i received notification of a recall for the rpm surge in 2013. concerned, i took my car to the dealership and was told since i didn't have any problems and hadn't reached the 150,000 mile limit, then i didnt need to worry about repairs for the time being. i then asked what would happen if i surpassed the mile limit and the problem surfaced. the mechanic informed me that as long as a recall ever existed, then ford would always be responsible for the repairs. not satisfied with that response, (because there would not be a 10 yr /150,000 limit in the letter) i questioned the manager who confirmed the tech's answer. in 2014 i relocated to lancaster ca. i too have had numerous dangerous close calls with the sudden acceleration while breaking; one being in a school parking lot in high temperatures. i took my car to the dealership 5/2016 and just as expected, they wont repair my car without cost. this is wrong and very dangerous and hopefully you guys will decide to do something about this for the many people still experiencing problems.
Engine shut off while driving. fault code indicates throttle control problem, but car drives normally after restarting. when will it shut off again? is it safe to drive to the ford dealer? *tr
When i first start my car its slow to give power, often when i drive it on the street it'll just lose complete power and die down. then i have to restart itfor it to temporarily go away then it happens again. *tr
Vehicle was stalling out finally quit, had it towed to a ford dealer, was advise that the throttlebody had shorted out. they say it is not covered under the warranty. the engine was replace by the ford dealership due to a manufacture defect 6 years ago. the vehicle has less that 50,000 miles on. what estimate cost of repairing is $970.00. we have an extended warranty coverage. but i think for should fix it without charge. *tr
I was traveling north toward ann street in montgomery when all of a sudden my car came to an abrupt stop in the middle of speeding traffic and my kids and i were in the middle of the highway stranded to get out of the car was the hardest part now i had to get some help when i did the man that pulled my car to his shop told me it was my throttle control sensor my wwwwwhhhhaaat and i only had the car for a year and a half r u serious i had to replace the motor after a year of havin the car which cost me 1400ars and now a throttle control sensor and it cost 746.00 with tax and 150 for the labor man i screaming need another car but not ford they lied they r not built ford tough uuuuugggghhhhh. *tr
My wife was going to work and the accelerator stuck. she got the car slowed down and off the state highway. she called me crying and very shook up that morning and for a couple of days. she could have been in a serious accident or even killed. i called the ford dealer and they went and got the car. after checking out the problem, they said the throttle body would have to be replaced at a price of $676.00 plus labor. they called ford motor co for financial help and they said there is no recall and they cannot help. i did not think this is right. i know they know they have a problem, but won't acknowledge it. my wife could have been killed or seriously injured. we need some financial help. *tr

When you shift from drive to reverse or reverse to drive, the vehicle lunges. and does it several times. ford is aware but with only half fix the throttle problem, by cleaning it not replacing it. i spoke to a couple dealers and they both said the same thing, "that will only clean the affected part and that 65 per cent end up coming back and the customer ends up paying to $800.00 to $900.00 to replace the part. that ford will not replace the part even though it is a recall part". no crash yet. have to be sure to keep foot on brake and keep plenty of distance from other vehicles / objects. updated 09/19/13*lj
My car makes harsh jerking motion while i am driving. the motion occurs intermittently so i am unable to predict when it will occur. however, it does happen while the car is in an motion and upon acceleration. after first experiencing the problem. the motor mount of the vehicle was repaired. this seemed to remedy the problem for about two weeks, then the problem persisted. not as harsh as previously but nonetheless, the ride feels unsafe and the issue happens erratically. this problem has continued for over a year. during this time i have researched online to find that this is a common issue and complaint among consumers. why has this vehicle not been recalled? this is a pressing issue for me as it is not a secure feeling to lose control of your vehicle momentarily. i also have to consider the safety of my unborn child. the ford five hundred vehicles with major mechanical malfunctions need to be recalled and taken off the market, not simply "fixed." after a fire or major accident has taken place, it is evident that "fixing" the cars is not the best solution. *tr

The car lunges forward or backwards when shifting gears also lunges when coming to a stop very violently. i drive with plenty of space in font of me so i haven't hit anything i'm surprised no one else has either. *tr
In multiple incidents, on hot summer days, the car has suddenly accelerated (with no foot on the accelerator) when backing out of parking spaces and sometimes when put into drive right after the sudden acceleration in reverse. it has required rapid, firm braking to prevent the car from hitting other vehicles. about a week after the problem started with this car, it started to happen occasionally with my other ford five hundred (a 2005 model with a little less mileage). a separate complaint has been filed on that vehicle. research online has revealed that hundreds of ford five hundred owners have reported this issue and that the throttle body is the likely culprit. *tr
I have a 2006 ford five hundred. i purchased it used in jan 2012. my car continually lurches forward while sitting still. the air conditioner will not cool while idling if it is hot outside. i have also had issues with losing all power while driving down the freeway. i will be driving and all gauges will bottom out and then rev up to the highest. my rpms will drop down, the gas gauge will go to empty and at night all electrical lights and dashboard notifications will light up and then go off. i cannot use the air conditioner, radio or anything else when this happens. this is very dangerous and i believe ford should be held accountable for not fixing this issue sooner! someone is going to get into a fatal accident because of this issue!!! losing all power and speed and then having the vehicle lurch forward is dangerous! #scaredmomof3babies! *tr

My car lunges when the air is on and i come to complete stop in drive or when i put it in reverse it is dangerous lucky i havent backed into anything yet is this a ford defect i called the dealership they want a $120 just to look at it they said there is no recall for this problem , but looking thru the internet i see the same problem with alot of other cars my year , something needs to be done before someone gets hurt ! *tr

While pulling out of a parking space i had my foot on brake and put car in reverse. when i let my foot off brake the car lunged back and the rpms went up without my foot touching the gas. after finally fighting it to get it out of the parking spot and not hitting the car behind me i put it in drive. once it was in drive it did the same thing. my foot was on the brake and it was lunging forward with my foot off the gas pedal. this happens all the time in parking lot and from a dead stop. it lunges and jumps at stop sign, red lights and low speed. *js

Two problems: 1. car surges sporadically (i.e. when pulling into parking space with foot on brake, car surges as if pressing the accelerator). 2. while driving all lights on dash go out, speedometer and tachometer go to zero. i had the throttle body replaced once (several months later, ford reimbursed me for the cost under customer satisfaction program 12n03. this solved the problem for several months. the problem is now re-occurring. ford has indicated that they will not repair the car again. this seems to be a safety issue. *tr
Engine surged unexpectedly causing temporary loss of control. this has been happening occasionally for several weeks while in drive at idle or when shifting into drive. i have found this issue to be widespread when checking forums on different websites. this is an unsafe condition that exists for many consumers with this model. a recall is needed so this dangerous situation is addressed. *tr
2006 ford 500. the car will suddenly surge at idle...it also surges during gear shifts from park to drive and park to reverse. if you do not have your foot firmly on the brake pedal the car will suddenly surge forward. this can lead to damage of the vehicle or injury to a pedestrian. arfc website has 125 reports of this problem. seems to get worse around the 60-65,000 mile range....conveniently out of warranty. taking car to dealer today for evaluation and repair. *tr
The car had begun surging hard both in reverse and forward. it happens when stopping and when first putting it in gear. i've been fortunate to have not hit anything yet, but i am fearful that it might happen. i'm seeing a lot of other people having the exact same problem in several forums and websites. i do not understand why a recall has not been issued for this problem as it is obviously a serious manufacturer's defect. *js
Tl* the contact owns a 2006 ford five hundred. the contact was driving 50 mph and attempted to merge into highway traffic when the vehicle became resistant to acceleration and stalled. the throttle warning light illuminated as the failure occurred. the contact was able to restart the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the throttle body needed replacing. the vehicle was not repaired. the vin was not available. the failure and the current mileage was 151,000.
1st issue: when the vehicle is at a stop light, the car feels like it's going to jump forward even while the brake is depressed. i worry about rear-ending the car in front of me. then when the car is in park, the car begins to rev or idle high as if the accelerator has been pressed. 2nd issue: while in park or driving at low speeds of 30-35mph, the instrument panel quits working and the a/c stops as if the car was turned off. it'll then come back on and will continue to come on and off. the bad thing is that the hazard lights won't even work. there's no warning. we have already had the throttle body repaired last year in 2011 when we found out it's a common problem but not covered under warranty nor a recall issued. *tr
While driving the car rpm gauge was moving upward even though i was still at steady speed. when i slowed and stopped it appeared to continue to lunge forward. i was able to control since i had some distance from the vehicle in front of me. by the time i reached my destination i was afraid that it had a mind of its own. it settled when i tried to park for it then cut off. there have been numerous events when the car lunged forward or cut off while driving and even when i put the car in reverse. i had three (3) motor mounts replaced and new battery along with the safety sensor. it costs more to repair than general maintenance. i see why they stopped making this car. its dangerous! i am now in the process of getting the throttle body replaced which may not be under warranty. this car should be recalled or we should be compensated for repairs related to this problem. *tr
Initially car would stall when cruise control was turned on and speed was above 55mph. after returning to carmax for repairs car continued to stall without the cruise being turned on. then car began accelerating with foot on brake when changing gears from a dead stop. after 3 repairs by ford was advised issue was not any of the prior items fixed it was the throttle body and it was a known issue but no recall has ever been done on it. *tr

I had just bought a 2006 ford five hundred with about 131000 miles. drove great from the dealership then later that afternoon the throttle all of a sudden went dead. i was going 65 mph on the highway and had no throttle. i went online and researched the car and there have been numerous (upwards of 100+) people who have the same complaint. i just wish ford would recall the part so it's not going to cost me an arm and a leg to fix. *tr
Ford 500 lurches severely at random times while the engine is engaged. this happens most dangerously at high speeds, due to driver's inability to control vehicle adequately to defend against potential crashes or control speed during turns. this has caused problems on the snow and ice here in alaska because uncontrolled acceleration reduces traction. also occurs at low speeds, which is more easily controlled through braking, but requires extreme caution if engaging vehicle when pedestrians or other vehicles are near. it has surprised and scared me on many occasions since i first purchased this car a month ago, but the reason i am writing this is because i had a scary incident today when pulling out of a grocery store parking lot (pedestrians in front of me when it suddenly jumped as soon as engine engaged). took it to the mechanic and diagnostic check says issues with fuel delivery system. the mechanic stated that after researching the issue this is a very common problem for this model and that it is most likely the throttle body, and says the car should not be driven in its condition. it is one of the scariest issues i've ever had to deal with. after reading more about it on the internet this evening it seems that this issue is very common and hundreds of people have had similar scary incidents with this car that they have reported online. if this many people are writing about it online, presumably there are thousands more who are having the same problem and do not have the resources or know how to report the issue. *tr

The vehicles warning indicator light of a wrench lit up indicating transmission/throttle body service. had previously had transmission inspected and were no problems. the car will thrust in direction car is in gear of such as when car is in reverse it will thrust and lunge backwards also in drive lunge forwards. it also is enhanced when the cars heater or a/c is running. have researched and many, many people have had similar problems and complaints. *tr

I would be stopped at a stop sign or red light and would push on the throttle to accelerate. the guy would not move at first then would "jump" and accelerate quickly. i never hit anyone because i was careful, but i took it into a ford dealership to have them diagnose it. they claimed to know of the problem but would not cover it under warranty. i paid over $1,000 to have them replace my "throttle body." *tr
The instrument cluster checks normal on most start-ups, but unpredictably all systems light up showing failure of abs, air bags, traction control, electrical systems, see a mechanic, cruise control and speedometer quits working. the warning lights may stay lit for 2 to 200 miles. and no speedometer. auto zone and my mechanic are baffled and frustrated after checking battery charging circuit connections and grounds. its obviously not safe driving without knowing your speed or if there is a major hazard looming-----like fire. *tr
