We have classified the 3 complaints from 1999 Ford F-350 about FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE into the following categories.
Rear fuel tank strap that holds the fuel tank in position failed. in 2003 ford had a recall on this truck to install safety straps around the fuel tank in case there was a failure of the main straps. when the rear strap failed the safety strap failed and the only thing holding the tank in the truck was the fuel line. the tank was about 3/4 full if it had separated all together it would have been a disaster and probably a fire. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 1999 ford f-350 pick up. the contact was driving 60 mph when the fuel straps detached from the fuel tank. the vehicle was towed to dealer where the dealer confirmed that both fuel tank straps were rusted and needed replacement. the manufacturer was contacted and they confirmed the vin did not qualify for recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 99v311000 ( fuel system, gasoline:storage:tank assembly). the vehicle was repaired. the failure mileage was 121,000 and the current mileage was 124,000.
Fuel pump had been blowing fuses. dealers contacted stated part (fuel pump) was on national back order with a 4 to 6 week delay. fuel pump died completely at night while on an interstate highway in oklahoma. ford then replaced the fuel pump the next day.
Fuel line worn, caused by rubbing against another fuel line, resulting in leakage. *mjs
Engine died while traveling with wife and small children in truck on freeway. following engine failure, brakes and steering became very difficult to manage while coasting off of freeway onto exit. two of these instances occurred while driving on freeway within 2 months of each other. engine began sputtering and then died completely within 10 seconds. the truck had to be towed to shamrock ford in dublin after each incident and no replacement vehicle was offered. after being fixed the 1st time there was a noticable lack of power and fuel consumption increased, leading to the second failure. i am very frustrated that the 40,000 dollar "dream truck" i purchased is a pile of unreliable junk. i bought a 5th wheel trailer to use with this truck and it is so unreliable that i am afraid to tow it anywhere. i will not allow my wife, who weighs 110 lbs, to take the kids anywhere for fear that she would not be able to control the vehicle if this occurred again. do i have any recourse? thank you, tony zwetsloot *ak
While traveling with friends and horses, at highway speeds(65) the fuel guage was showing a little over a quarter and the trip computer was still showing about 60 miles to empty. the truck sputtered and engine stalled. it was out of fuel. after trying to get ford roadside assistance - who said wait 5-6 hrs till morning and we'll get someone out, and aaa who doesn't transport fuel - only gas. the nc hp was contacted and then transported to truck stop and back to truck with fuel - then truck ran fine. *ak
1. the engine is starved of air when driven on snow and ice. snow gets packed in the air cleaner box and freezes. the air intake is pulled from the wheel well. 2. road debris and rocks load up the bottom of all doors. weatherstripping is required. *ak
Fuel filter failure resulted in high pressure fuel leak that flooded the engine compartment with diesel fuel. approximately 10 to 12 gallons pumped from tank at high pressure, and sprayed all over engine and engine compartment. problem was not noticed after picking vehicle up from routine service. noticed pungent odor which intensified as i was driving home. dealer stated they did not service fuel filter. when vehicle was picked to be returned to the dealer, diesel fuel came spilling off the top of the engine. diesel fuel has penetrated the ventilation system and got all over front suspension parts removing paint from these parts. failure of fuel filter and resultant leak could have resulted in a fire, thank god it did not happen (note- fuel leak was occuring while i was driving home). will be happy to discuss this issue via telephone to give more details. *ak
