While driving on the road, (about 60 mph), and i hit a bump, the whole front end started to shake violently. i had to slow down quickly to about 30 mph to get it to stop. the same thing happened twice more that day. i called my ford dealer and they had me bring it down. the said that it sounded like the "death wobble". they replaced the steering damper and about two weeks later it started wobbling again. when i brought it in the first time it had less than 11,000 miles on it. now it has less than 12,000 miles on it and it is doing it again. fortunately, this has not happened while i was on a highway or it could have caused an accident. they are going to try again but everything that i have researched on this says that there is no fix and ford will not do anything unless there is a recall. people are going to get seriously hurt or killed when this problem occurs.
Local highway driving the truck shake uncontrollably for about 5-10 minutes or until the truck slows to a near stop. the shake will also occur when hitting a pot hole, going over railroad tracks or braking. the first experience occurred at 17,000 miles and has since continued to a current 26,000 miles. after taking to ford dealership service they have indicated that several trucks were experiencing the same and the part(s) were on back order. after approx. 30 days, the dampner came in, however, the defect has occurred several times since. returned to ford service and had a tire alignment done. to no avail, the same issue has occurred again. i have researched this defect and found the ford community is calling this occurrence as the "death wobble".
Vehicle bucks up/down left/right when driving at normal speeds if the vehicle hits any small bump in the road.
So i have had an issue with the front end of my 2019 ford since i bought it. i told them on april 26th that it seemed to be pulling and they checked the alignment and said everything was okay and within specs. i didn't have another problem until september when it got really bad and anytime i went over a uneven patch or a change in road material it would jerk me out of my lane. i took it to the quick lane service department in bakersfield on september 7th, they told me it was the drag link, that it had broken and they had replaced it. it drove okay for a few weeks and then on september 30th as i was going over a bridge my truck started to do the death wobble, my steering wheel was shaking and the front end of the truck was bouncing. i had to slow down to get the truck under control and i was only doing 45 originally. i took it to ford and they said it was the steering damper and they replaced it and that should fix the problem. well less then three weeks later its still doing it just not as sever. i called ford and set up an appointment and explained it was happening again only to get my appointment changed due to a meeting and a promise that the service manager would call back. never got the call and now im paying for a truck that is just sitting in my front yard because its unsafe to drive.
I have had a very dangerous vibration that occurs in the front end of a vehicle. when my 2019 f250 has experiences death wobble, the entire steering system rapidly turns back and forth, making controlling the vehicle very hard. it normally accuses at speeds above 45 mph to 80 mph. the truck now has 12,000 miles on it and it started at around 9,000 miles.
When driveing down the highway at highway speeds my 2019 f250 goes into a violent shaking. steering wheel shakes uncontrollably it hard to keep control over the truck and not wreck. i have had it in to get fixed 3 times ford turned me down by saying they did not have parts to fix it . finally after months of setting i got it in and fixed. 2000 miles later it started the death wobble again at highway speeds. ford told me there is nothing they can do.
Experienced severe vibration and uncontrollable shaking in the front end. "death wobble". was traveling at highway speed of 75 mph when the incident occurred. the front end started shaking uncontrollably and continued until i brought the vehicle to a complete stop on the side of the highway..
Truck began to shake violently/uncontrollably after hitting a bump on the road at 65 mph. i had to slow down to 35 mph before the shaking would stop.
Uncontrollalbe wobble at high speeds when hitting bumps on overpasses,or very rough spots in the roadway, or bridge crossings. this has occured to me four times at different locations, & at speeds ranging from 60mph - 80mph. each time was a very hair raising situation to say the least. also each time while trying to get the vehicle under control you had to slow down as soon as possible to get it to stop the severe wobble, & when i say severe wobble it felt like the front tires were going to come out from underneath the truck. not only does this put me in danger , but it puts everyone else in danger that is around me at the time this occurs. i live in an area that in the winter time we can see a lot of slick roadways, & i don't know how i'm going to be able to control this if it happens to me in these conditions. i purchased this vehicle under good faith from the dealership to be a sound vehicle, how can i even put my family or friends in it when i know it might get them harmed or even killed if this occurs.
While driving highway speeds on a paved surface, vehicle shakes violently after hitting a bump. the vehicle goes into what is known as a "death wobble" and requires the vehicle to quickly slow down in order to regain control of the vehicle. after some research, this is a systemic problem that has not been addressed since the first reports of this violent and potentially deadly shaking since 2005. this issue causes the unwanted use of the vehicle and safety is jeopardized. if it is possible to return the vehicle, please provide information.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 ford f-250. the contact stated that while the vehicle was driven at highway speeds, the vehicle went over a bump on the roadway and the steering wheel started to shake violently and uncontrollably. the vehicle was taken to lamarque ford located at 3101 williams boulevard, kenner, la 70065, (504)-443-2500 for inspection. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
21,997 miles, driving on highway at 62 mph. hit a bump and experienced death wobble. slowed to 20 mph before truck drove out of it. previously owned a 2017 350 that did the same thing at 20k miles. ford bought it back. trusted that i would not have the problem again, so bought this 2019. this is dangerous and frustrating. i can't believe the nhtsa hasn't required ford to fix this problem.
Steering has been slightly shaky over bumps at normal highway speed. recently truck has began death wobble (steering oscillation) when hitting potholes, bridge joints, and road construction transitions.today in traffic at 50-55 mph, it was severe enough that it almost caused an accident. high traffic area and braking was slow due to traction loss during oscillation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 ford f-250. while traveling 80 mph on an overpass of a highway the vehicle suddenly started shaking and experienced the "death wobble". the vehicle shook violently for about a quarter of a mile while the contact struggled to maintain control of the vehicle. the contact tried shifting into neutral and braking to slow down. the contact was finally able to pull off the road to the shoulder. the vehicle did not stop shaking until it came to a complete stop. corwin ford nampa (5707 e gate blvd, nampa, id 83687, (208) 475-1110) stated that the contact should be able to drive over to the dealer. the contact refused to drive the vehicle and had it towed to the dealer using the ford roadside assistance program. the manufacturer had not been contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 20,500. *dt the consumer stated the dealer replaced the steering dampener and the problem happened a 2nd time. *tr
I want to preface this buy saying that the following issue also happened with my 2017 f250 that ford bought back as a result of this safety issue that they deemed unrepairable. the ford death wobble started when this truck had about 16,000 miles on it. while driving on the highway in denver colorado, the front end of the vehicle began to shake violently after crossing a slightly askew seam between the roadway and an overpass. the only way to bring the vehicle under control was to keep the truck straight and slow down to under 30 mph in 4 lane highway with heavy traffic . the death wobble happened again at about 17,500 miles in sioux city iowa under similar circumstances and again driving through montana on my way back to colorado at roughly 20,000 miles. i pulled over in wyoming and filed a complaint with ford. when was back in colorado i called the dealer who could not look at the truck for another week. while driving to a meeting in colorado springs i again experienced the death wobble after driving over a rough patch of highway. i decided the vehicle was no longer safe to drive and took it to the dealer who then told me that they assumed it was the steering damper shock and that ford had thousands of defective shocks from rancho, there supplier and that there was supposed to be a new shock being made but had no eta on the part and had no other alternative other than to suggest i put on a better aftermarket shock which ford would not warranty. i had not choice but to drive the vehicle home at 50-55mph on a freeway where the speed limit is 65-75mph. on my way home i experienced the death wobble two more times, one of which forced me to pull across two lanes and stop in merge area of a freeway on ramp. i have filed a second complaint with ford. i now have an a second ford that i can't drive, no parts available to fix it and a manufacturer who will not admit fault.
On9/8 /20 i was driving on the expressway at 78 mph i hit a bump in the road and almost control of the truck due to a heavy vibration in the front end of the truck(wobbly). this will be the second time to the dealership for this problem. the first time i was told the shake was normal. now it is so bad can't control it when it starts. i feel this truck is unsafe and need help to correct it by ford.
The vehicle violently shimmy's and shakes and makes my hands leave the steering wheel while driving at freeway speeds and going over road bumps, bridge transitions, road deformities. the defect leads to difficult steering and intense shaking even when drivers are driving in normal conditions. this is triggered when the vehicle is traveling at speeds above 50 miles per hour and one of the tires hits a groove or bump in the road, this causes a violent shaking of the vehicle, which can only be controlled by a sudden reduction of speed, which almost caused a several car pile-up on the freeway by me reducing speeds from 70 mph to under 30 mph in the fast lane and not being able to get to a safe area. this has happened in the past but now it happened 4 times in less than 50 miles. my wife refuses t drive the vehicle.
While drive on freeway or surface street if i drive over a pot hole or bridge seam, trucks suspension goes in to a death wobble, have to slam on brakes to regain control of truck. this issue is going to kill myself or some one driving on the road. this issue happens at least twice a day now.
4-wheel drive (4wd) - sustained steering wheel oscillation - above 45 mph (72 km/h). vehicle in motion, on the highway, towing a 5th wheel trailer. hitting a bump or seam in the road causes uncontrollable shimmy in the steering wheel and front suspension. requires immediate reduction in speed to correct the situation.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 ford f-250. while driving 50 mph over a pothole, the front end of the vehicle shook violently and experienced the "death wobble". the contact called town east ford (18411 lyndon b johnson fwy, mesquite, tx 75150, (972) 584-9140) and was informed that the shocks, suspension, springs, tie rod, an alignment, and tires were needed. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 40,000.
F250 will bounce uncontrollably when a bump, or minor change in grade happens at 65+ mph. front end bounce will forced immediate slowdown and lack of control of the vehicle until speeds reach around 20 mph, then bouncing stops.
Our company vehicle (with 43k miles on it) steering wheel shakes and entire truck wobbles on the freeway. it is referred to online as the ford death wobble. if ford does not take responsibility as they should we need to know what needs to be done to fix this common ford issue. this began happening in late august and has happened several times since.
After 20,000 miles my truck started intermittently wobbling. it is termed "death wobble." usually only happens at higher speeds (70 or better) and after hitting a "rough patch" in the road or bridge joints.the steering wheel shakes from side to side and the whole truck wobbles violently. after slowing down and hanging on for 30 seconds or so it stops and is then fine again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2019 ford f-250. while driving 65 mph, the front suspension started to vibrate abnormally without warning. the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the "death wobble". the vehicle was taken to truck city ford (15301 i-35, buda, tx 78610, (512) 312-0800) to be diagnosed, which was still pending. the contact stated that the failure was experienced twice before and the vehicle was taken to the same dealer. at the time, the contact was informed that there was a failure with the front suspension and the steering linkage caused the failure. the vehicle was repaired; however, the contact was unsure of the repair specifics. the manufacturer was informed of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Have noticed my truck has been driving different, the steering has been feeling off. well today i was going down interstate i-4 and went over a bump and my truck started shaking so violently that i thought i was going to crash into a wall. it did not do it once it did it 3 times. i could not control the truck. it was the scariest thing. so unsafe
Death wobble when driving down the road. this vehicle when entering onto the interstate and driving over an expansion joint while merging into traffic at 75-80mph (speed limit on interstate was 80mph), the vehicle started to shake violantly in the front steering wheel, almost like a tire came off. i had a vehicle in the passing lane beside me with a horse trailer on and it was bad enough he slowed down and pulled away from us as i did everything i could to slow it down and get it off to the side of the road, until it hit about 20 or 25mph and stopped shaking. i own jk jeeps, so i know what the jeep death wobble feels like as i have had to repair it on my lifted jeeps, but this is a 2019 f250 with less than 45,000 miles on it and well, this should not be happening. this is extremely dangerous as i live in wyoming & travel with this truck as a work vehicle and travel in the pacific nw, and what would have happened if it would have been in winter driving condition and snow and ice on the road. it would have been all over! when i contacted dealer service department they said to bring it in, but doubted they had any options as it is a known problem. kind of concerning!
When driving at highway speeds, violent shaking happens after hitting bumps. the only way to regain control is to reduce speed. we have a fleet which includes 46 new f250's and f350's. were are experiencing this issue with 5 trucks so far. all issues are starting between 8000 and 15000 miles.
I was driving down the interstate at approximately 70mph and my truck went into a "death wobble". i slowed down to around 15 mph to make it stop. the following week, it did it again on the interstate at 75 mph. i was in heavy traffic, with my family, and i had to put on warning lights, and slow down to an unsafe speed on the interstate. later that week, a colleague borrowed my truck and was traveling down a highway that needed repairs, and the "death wobble" happened around 15 times. at this time, i won't drive the truck anywhere over 40 mph due to fear of harming my family or someone else's family. when this "death wobble" happens, you lose complete ability to control the steering of the vehicle. you have to hold on tight and hope you can slow down safely. i refused to drive my vehicle anywhere over 40 mph.
While driving around a slow radius in the highway at about 50mph i hit a rough spot in the road that caused violent shaking of the steering wheel, which most refer to as "death woble". this caused the front end to loose traction and scoot across the road. to overcome it i had to significantly slow down my rate of speed. my currently has 2857 miles on it. this has happened to lesser amounts previously.
Truck has the death wobble goes into a violent shake very randomly with no warning have to apply heavy brakes to regain control. steering wheel shakes very bad and the whole front end feels like it's going to come apart. truck is very dangerous to drive.
Mid to high speeds if i hit any sort of bump or any sort of hole in the road the front end starts to vibrate severely and steering wheel vibrates and shakes and i have to immediately decelerate. it is exactly what i see other ford users describing online as the death wobble.
In dec of 2018 the ford f250 exhibited the "death wobble" which happens when going straight down the onramp entering highway over an expansion joint or pothole at highway speeds above 45-50 mph. the truck experience extreme "bump steer" and harmonic oscillations so harsh as to seem like it was a multiple tire blow out. dealer tested and experienced same issue. had 32,727 miles on the truck at the time. ford tsb 18-2268 supposedly was the applied fix. however when going over bumps and expansion joints there is still a slight bump steer and shimmy but not enough to oscillate harmonically. i researched the issue and this has been happening for years on the superduty trucks. this is a control issue related to both part failures and design as many people are experiencing these incidents before 20,000 miles. parts should not be wearing out this soon. vin# (xxxxxx) ford superduty xlt f250 6.7l diesel crewcab 4x4 parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
F250, 6.7l diesel, 4wd, crew cab, 25,000 miles. vehicle control lost when traversing expansion joints (especially at bridge/road interface) at highway speeds (~70mph). the steering wheel wobbles erratically and the truck uncontrollably jumps laterally and at a slight angle, up to the width of an entire lane. fortunately, there has been no vehicle (or structure) adjacent to the truck; i would have hit it! in all cases the vehicle was lightly loaded with approximately 200-400 lbs of pax/gear. all equipment is 'factory' and unmodified. all maintenance has been performed by ford dealers (only fluid/filter changes and tire rotation thusfar).
