While traveling down the interstate at a speed of 70mph hit a bridge that was raised (rough bridge)causing the vehicle to violently shake (death wobble)...almost lost control of vehicle. extremely terrifying. could have killed my husband and i! after vehicle was dropped to a speed of approx 35-40 mph the truck straightened out.
Drove over a small bump on the road and front end of truck started to shake so bad had to slow down to get it to stop.that shake was also felt in the steering wheel.i was driving down the road at 55 to 60 mph.
My truck is currently at 21000 miles. i've experienced the 'death wobble' 4-5 times in the past but on a recent trip of only 250 miles, it occurred at least 10 times. travel speed was between 60-70mph. usually happened on county roads that aren't perfectly smooth, but even on fresh asphalt....one little bump can cause problems. i believe it has something to do with the steering and suspension linkage, vehicle weight or wheel alignment (probably all of the above).
Crossed rail road tracks truck start shaking so bad like to have lost control at 65 miles per hour
Vehicle is 100% factory equipment .no changes made to vehicle. current odometer 23,750 miles. have experienced "death wobble" 3 times always while traveling about 70 mph. extremely unsafe. typically it begins travelling about 70 mph and contacting an expansion joint in the road or some similar uneven pavement. truck front end begins shaking uncontrollably until speed is reduced to about 50 mph. have done extensive research and know this is alarmingly common on 2017-18-19 f250/350. i personally have 2 friends who own 2018 & 2019 f-250 and both have experienced the same "death wobble". dealer states the needed part to repair problem is on backorder. also stated currently there are 43k of these components on b/o. these numbers make it extremely apparent ford has a huge problem with potentially thousands of unsafe vehicles on the road. the defect usually begins at 15k to 25k miles. as these trucks reach that threshold it will only be a matter of time until someone is killed or severely injured. it is imperative that ford issue a national recall on these model trucks.
I was driving at 75 mph on interstate 10 heading to junction texas. there was an area of highway construction and as i was coming off of this construction there was some uneven road and bumps. my front left tire started to shake, the steering wjheel started to shake and it progressively got so bad that the entire truck was shaking. i had to gently apply the brakes but unable to steer appropriately we veered into the median of i10. i had both my 3 and 6 year old in the truck. had there been a median wall or traffic this likely would have been a serious accident. this same scenario happened 2 more times on our trip both at bridge interfaces.
2017 f250 when traveling at speed of 65 on major hwy the steering went into a death wobble where there was a slight imperfection in hwy very difficult to control.
40,000 miles death wobble uncontrollable shaking after driving over bride while driving on highway had to run off into the median and grass slowing down as quickly as possible. this is a deadly issue and known to ford. please take action before people are killed in these trucks. i contacted my local ford dealer and there is no recall for this issue.
I was traveling along i-40 going about 75 miles per hour around a slight curve to the left when i hit a small bump. the entire front end of my truck began to shake violently. the truck became very difficult to control as the steering wheel was ripped out of my hands. i pulled a muscle in my arm trying to regain control the first time it happened. the shaking went away as soon as i slowed down to about 68mph, and did not return as i accelerated further. this began happening on 11/12/2019 at approximately 38k miles. here is a link to the video of what occurred. https://www.facebook.com/100036038931239/videos/158294595381837/ here is another link to a video from another occasion. https://www.facebook.com/100036038931239/videos/158075658737064/ here is a link of this same issue affecting another person's truck. https://www.facebook.com/clint.patton.5/videos/10101610077554026/ this problem is so common, there is a class action lawsuit in progress. https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/consumer-products/auto-news/901841-ford-class-action-alleges-death-wobble-truck-defect/ you guys seriously need to force ford to issue a recall and fix these trucks before someone loses it and gets killed. this is not a myth, this is not b.s., this is serious. you're welcome to come drive my truck and experience it yourself. *tr
I have been experiencing violent, sustained shaking on the highway if i happen to hit one our many available bumps. the entire truck shakes and cannot be stopped until the vehicle is completed stopped. i looked online and saw countless references to such a problem including limitless videos on youtube. if this problem is that well-publicized, there is no way that ford does not know about it. my local dealer, poynter ford in seymour, indiana, claimed that they never heard of such a thing. the ford corporation's chat line politely directed me to your website. in short, i, and all other owners of this ridiculously expensive vehicle, are playing with fire. this shaking does not occur at speeds less than one would be traveling on a highway. i asked the chat line rep what the term for the event was, what parts have been replaced.
Front wheels violently wobble when crossing road deviations like potholes ,bridge joints and angled rr crossings . originally it started at highway speeds but has been happening at city street speeds more and more.
While driving on the highway at speeds between 50-70 mph, i lose complete control of my truck after driving over the slightest bump. i literally have to stop my truck before i can regain control. the vibration literally wants to throw me out of my chair. i can't even hold onto the steering.
Was traveling down the interstate and the truck started to shake violently and it took the steering wheel right out of my hands and i grabbed the wheel and slowed the vehicle down and tried to get to the right emergency lane, the shaking continued till i slowed to about 20mph and it stopped shaking, exiting of the road and checked my tires they had no issues, have had this truck 8 months and this has happened 6 times to me and my wife ,my kids cannot drive this death trap please help before people get killed or kill someone
While towing a 7000 lb trailer/rv, the truck started shaking badly after driving over a bridge expansion joint. this occurred three times in one day while driving on canada hwy 104 between antigonish ns and moncton nb. after staying in a walmart parking lot in moncton nb, the shaking happen one more time the next day on hwy 1 while driving to saint john. each time, the brakes were applied and the shaking stop at about 35 mph. each time, the shaking started while driving between 60 and 70 mph, and crossing a bridge expansion joint. the truck had about 26,000 miles when this was happening. the same trailer setup has be used form thousands of mile since the truck was new. the shaking was very bad and i am very thankful no other cars were close by when it happen.
After a bump in the highway such as a pot-hole or bridge approach, my 2017 f250 will shake uncontrollably at speeds anywhere from 60-75 mph. this started shortly after purchasing it brand new in 2017. recently my wife had experience this to the point where she was shaken off the roadway and tonight i had this happen to the point where i could focus on the road, that's how bad it was shaking!!! i took approximately 3/4 mi before i could get it under control. mind you this happened over four different bridges. one being a 150' drop to the river below. . i'm finally at my breaking point with this truck. i have never once had a bad thought over the last 17 years of driving fords truck but this one broke me. i have kept this truck stock from the wheels, tires, and suspension. i don't understood how ford could put out such defective vehicle???
After having truck in for death wobble and new steering dampener installed, truck started violently wobbling again at speeds of 55-70 going across some bumps or bridges. the whole truck, dash, steering, wheels and seats shake until you slow back down to 50. there is very little control of the truck when this is happening. so now truck is in the shop again for the same issue. it does not matter if it is a highway, a street or a road. certain bridges, overpasses or bumps will cause the wobble to start. deathly frightening for 10 year daughter riding in truck with me.
Driving truck on highway at about 73 mph. steering wheel started shaking back and fourth badly, wobbling. applied brakes and it settled down. it has done this several times. also done at about 50 mph on newly asphalt highway. apllied brakes and it settled down. i also had my tires balanced at two different tire shops that i deal with all the time. all this is drving straight on smooth asphault highway. took to dealer and they said steering dampner (i think was the name) was bad. replaced it and said they drove it and was ok. truck had around 17,800 when it first did this. truck still had a very very slight right to left shake.this was done on 9/20/2019, 18,257 miles. did not have a "death wobble" again until 11/15/2019. it was horrible. on intersate fourty in arkansas driving on straight road about 78mph around 8:00 at night.. did not feel any bump. worse wobble i have had on my truck . the wobble did no stop until i got off interstate and stopped the truck. scared me and my brother to death!!! did not do it again on way home, this is about 350 miles. still has little shake to steering wheel that i said earlier. i don't know what would have happened if this had been my wife or grand daughter. this is a very very vsry serious problem. i called my dealer when and he said bring it back and try not to drive it over 70mph. this should not have anything to do woth it. i have videos of some of this, but not the last time
While traveling on interstate i-84, i experienced a wobble and steering issue that threw my vehicle from the right lane into the left lane. fortunately nobody was in the left lane. i was travelling approximately 70 mph and hit some uneven pavement and small pot holes. my experience was very scary and could have resulted in serious injury or death. my research of the symptoms closely matches the death wobble. this is very disturbing. my truck is currently at the dealer for an alignment. however, further research show that these alignments can make things worse. i strongly urge that this issue be investigated across the country. somebody is going to die as a result of this issue.
I own a 2017 ford f250 that i bought new and now has approximately 30,000 miles. in august 2019 i was driving with my wife and two young children at approx 60mph on a two lane highway. road conditions were dry and i hit a slight frost heave on a straight stretch of highway. all of a sudden the vehicle started shaking violently and i have very little control. i was able to slow the vehicle down to approx. 25mph before the shaking stopped. luckily there was no oncoming traffic or it could have resulted in a catastrophic head on collision. i have never experienced such violent shaking from a vehicle, it felt as if all four wheels were held on by a single lug nut and i had very little control. i called the dealer immediately and they schedule me for repairs. i later researched the issue and realized that this issue has a name "death wobble" and that it is common in ford trucks. i have not experienced the issue since but i feel this is an extremely significant safety concern and i am honestly very concerned that it may happen again. if there would have been oncoming traffic or icy road conditions that day it could have resulted in a very tragic accident. i just learned of this site to report safety issues or else i would have done it much sooner. it appears that ford has a design flaw that needs to be addressed and i cannot believe they continue to allow this to happen. i am fearful that it is going to take fatalities before this extreme safety issue is corrected.
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving 66 mph over a bump or ridges in the road, the front end violently vibrated. the contact mentioned that the vehicle needed to be stopped for the failure to completely go away. the vehicle was taken to stanley ford brownfield (1708 lubbock rd, brownfield, tx 79316, (806) 637-3561) where the tires were balanced. pollard friendly ford company (3301 s loop 289, lubbock, tx 79423, (806) 797-3441) was contacted and informed the contact that the track bar steering damper caster shims were at the wrong angle. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided a case number. the failure mileage was 33,457.
Death wobble occurs between 50-70 mph if hit a rough spot on paved hwy. has happened multiple times. have had dealership fix..but only reduced severity.
Ford f-250 xlt crew cab 4x4 6'6" box - completely stock truck. stock wheels, stock tires, 38k miles, tires at 7/32 tread. truck experiences "death wobble" - violent shaking of vehicle due to oscillations in front axle/steering system/tires. massive safety issue as the vehicle becomes un-controllable at highway speeds with this issue happens.
At about 60 mph on a highway and driving in a straight line i experienced a violent shaking in the front end which almost sent me off of the road. the only way to stop it was to slow down rather quickly and regain control. the more i research i found it is named "death wobble". it is a very random and dangerous situation and needs to be fixed. i now have a $46,000 truck that i have absolutely no trust in and will not let my wife drive. it has happened twice now, about a week in between and in different locations.
Death wobble at highway speed.
2017 pre owned ford f250 diesel purchased with 10k miles on it. purchased truck nov 2018. experienced 6-7 episodes of "death wobble" at speeds over 60 mph. this issue occurs only at speeds over 50-60 mph when hitting semi rough road. it begins to shake very violently and won't stop even when continuing on to smooth road. only way i have been able to stop it after it starts is to slow down below 50 mph (thereby front loading the suspension by applying the brakes) which is not a safe thing to do when traveling 75 mph on the highway. also, be aware this truck is totally stock from ford. no aftermarket parts of any kind. truck now has about 30k miles on it and i have owned it about 11 months. truck is great in every other way and drives really well in every other way. this death wobble doesn't happen with every patch of rough road, but is more likely the rougher the road is at those speeds. took to dealer ship in aug 2019 and they replaced multiple parts in front end suspension all free of charge. it just did the death wobble again this last weekend 10/12/19. i am scheduled for a 1k mile trip this next week so i will just have to be careful and truck is scheduled for service on this issue on 11/4/19. we will see if anything can be done. but please understand this does nearly cause the vehicle to run off the road. it at least causes it to veer 1-2 feet out of the lane you are in. it's even worse when towing a 5-10k pound load. i have seen many less dangerous items recalled on various vehicles and this should certainly be addressed. someone will be killed one day with this problem. this is not to mention advanced wear of front suspension parts and tires over the life of the vehicle.
Steering shimmy uncontrollably when @ 55+ mph and uneven payment. to gain control of vehicle must slow vehicle back down to 30 mph and rock the steering wheel. after researching this issue on line for f 250 2017 it's commonly known as the death wobble' below requests date this occurred. began @40,000 and progressively gotten worse now occurs daily.
2017 f250 with 35k. first time hauling my 3 horse bumper pull trailer. went over the bump onto an overpass on the interstate going 70 and the whole truck started shaking violently. the seats and steering wheel were shaking. it was terrifying. i slowed to 55 and it stopped. it did it to me twice yesterday with sophie in the car. i googled 2017 f250 shaking. it's a death wobble. and lots of people are having the issue.
At approximately 65 to 70 mph and upon hitting a bump/expansion joint/pothole in the road, the truck will enter into a non-dampening castor oscillation (i.e. death wobble). when this occurs it can be very difficult to control and the driver must slow down to approximately 40 - 45 mph to get the wobble to stop. this can be extremely dangerous when towing a large/heavy trailer.
At highway speeds, bumps in the road cause the steering to begin to wobble and make the vehicle uncontrollable, slowing down allows the driver to regain control. it has been called the death wobble be many people and appears to be a known issue. problem started around 25000 miles. continues to this day at 45000 miles, seems to be getting worse.
With only 15,000 miles, my ford f250 4x4 super duty truck (all stock) would wobble violently when hitting a bump or dip on the road, typically at speeds over 45mph. i brought the truck in for service as this occurs frequently. ford replaced several steering parts and admitted to what they call a "death wobble". what scares me the most is that the wobble was so bad, it forced me into the medial of the interstate and nearly caused a major accident. my fears are more toward that if i had my 17 year old driving the truck, much worse could have happened as it took all i had to maneuver the truck off the highway and down to a safe speed to bring the truck back under control. the wobble or shimmy was so extreme that i felt it needed reported. when i asked if the parts replacement would solve the problem indefinitely, they could not give me a good answer. so my fears again are "what if this happens again and what if my teenager is driving". i don't feel this problem is resolved and needs further investigation before someone is seriously hurt, or worse.
I have a 2017 ford f250 that has "death wobble" issues. it becomes uncontrollable if it hits rough pavement on the highway, usually at 70 mph. if the truck begins to shake it is uncontrollable. it is nearly impossible to steer. the only way to regain control is to slow to about 20 mph or stop completely. while decelerating it will get worse that at 70 mph for a short time, and then slowly stop shaking. i have been to the heller ford dealership in el paso, they replaced a steering stabilizer. the truck now has a vibration in the front end, and feels like it is going to start the death wobble again. the service manager said it was because of worn tires. they have 9/32" of tread on the front. they are however damaged from the wobble, ford will not replace the tires. the tears have about 7/32" and are not "cupped" like the front. the truck does this while in motion on all types of pavement usually 55-70mph
Death wobble when you hit a bump at 45 mph + going to get someone killed new truck happens all the time dealer does nothing
Tl* the contact owns a 2017 ford f-250. while driving high speeds, the front end of the vehicle vibrated violently. there were no warning indicators illuminated. three different unknown dealers diagnosed that the wheels needed to be balanced; however, the failure continued. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 4,000.
Front tires begin to "wobble & shake" violently of speeds above 60 mph.
I took the truck to the dealer after i noticed the tpms was malfunctioning after about 4,000 miles and 3 months of operation. the tpms originally showed a dramatic fault in one tire, but later showed faults in three. the readings changed continually from tire to tire and sometimes were as low as 40 psi in some tires. the dealer replaced 1 sensor but could not get the tpms to calibrate. i returned the next day after the dealer obtained two more new sensors. after the two new sensors were installed in truck wheels, the tpms still would not calibrate. the dealer installed a new sensor in the remaining wheel and was then able to calibrate the tpms. the dealer believes that all four sensors failed after approximately 4000 miles and three months. the dealer said that all four tires had "moisture" inside when they installed new sensors and asked me if i had used a personal air compressor to add air prior to the failures. i responded that i had not done anything to the air pressure before the first failure and only checked all four tires for air pressure after the system showed a problem. when checking all four tires after the failure i may have added a pound or two to each to bring all up to the recommended pressure. i have since checked my compressor and it did not expel any water after draining. i have not yet received the final service report from the dealer, as after 4 hours of waiting for resolution, i was in a hurry to get home. obviously, all is covered under warranty.
Death wobble.. when driving at speeds of 65 to 70 on highway if you hit any kind of bridge or bump in road the vehicle shakes violently like a wheel has fallen off.. you have to come down to 20mph or stop to regain control.. i have only 19000 miles on my truck and this has happened 4 times now.. this is going to kill some one needs fixed.. have had it to dealership 3 times on my way for 4 th today . i bought a new truck to feel safe and i am afraid to drive it now.
Excessive wheel bounce.
