We have classified the 2 complaints from 2018 Ford F-150 about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
I am experiencing door latch issues on my 2018 ford f150 supercrew pickup truck. in cold weather, i am able to open the passenger side rear door, but unable to close the door. when i attempt to close the door, it bounces back at me. i am concerned the door is not secure, and can open at any time. the door will subsequently close only after the truck is running with the heat on high for over 30 minutes. this is a great concern for safety as we have to have someone sit in the rear seats and hold the door shut when we experience the issue. this is the second time this winter that this issue has happened, and the issue has been widely documented on the internet. i have opened a case with ford, and they do not believe the newer f150's are impacted.
Cpsc:2018 ford f150 frozen door latch issue. in temperatures below freezing the drivers side door latch will not function properly. it either prevents the door from being opened or once opened it prevents the door from being closed. *dt *tr
Passenger side front door will not latch when cold. doesn't have to be raining or snowing like previously reported. parked overnight and when you open the door the latch releases but will not re latch.
Door latch doesn't work/keep door closed when it's below freezing outside. this only occurs when it's below freezing outside.
All 4 doors on the vehicle were frozen this morning. i was able to remote start the truck to try and warm it up, but had to take an uber to work as that did not work. i had the dealer perform field service action 18n03 on the truck last month.
In weather below 32 degrees f door locks freeze. power lock will not unlock. interior door handle may work with effort. key may work with effort. once open, door will not stay closed.
The door latches on my 2018 ford f150, when below freezing, frequently freeze, they will open, then not latch shut until i warm the latches with a heat gun, sometimes the doors will appear to close, only to open while the vehicle is in motion. this is very common, and there is a tsb for the issue. recently, i was traveling on a local highway, and the door that my 8 month old son was sitting at flung open, i immediately pulled over and limped the truck home, unable to get the door closed. i have video of me trying to close that door with my son sitting in his car seat. the following week, i had the same issue with the opposite rear door, which i also got video of. this issue is so common that i previously had a 2016 f150 with the same exact issue, i have videos of myself trying to close the doors on that vehicle, before, and after ford tried to fix that truck, due to this, and transmission issues on that 2016, i traded it in at a loss for my 2018 f150, which ford claimed would not have the problems that my previous truck had. i have an appointment with ford to attempt to fix my 2018 f150, but i am not confident they will be able to fix it, as there are reports that the revised tsb they are using now, also doesn't work. this has been an issue on all 2015+ f150s, and on 2017+ 250s, and 350s, and ford has been aware of the issue since at least 2015, all aluminum bodied ford f-series trucks have this problem. these vehicles should not be on the road until a workable fix is developed and deployed.
Driver's side door wouldn't latch on a cold day. took it in to dealer, they removed the door panel, removed the moisture that froze up the latching mechanism and lubed the parts. six days later the door latch froze up again. couldn't get into the truck. climbed through the passenger's side and was able to unlock the driver's side door and open it. then it wouldn't latch closed. forced the lock down and let the truck sit and went to work. called dealer to tell them the problem again. said they would get back to me. two days later i called and they said my vin would be put on a recall list and as soon as my truck got okayed, they would order parts to fix the problem. currently i don't drive my brand new truck because of the door latching problem. apparently this problem has existed on the 2015-2017 ford f-150 trucks. there was a recall on lots of those trucks for the same issue. now my 2018 truck will need fixed under a similar recall as soon as ford figures out what to do for the fix. i'm not sure how to handle this. i'm pretty disappointed in my new truck with this issue. i have attached a receipt of the work they've done so far. Rear electronic tailgate opens on its own while driving. this has happened more than 15 times in four months. frequency increasing. danger to others. a known issue on f250 and 350 models, now on f150 too
Rear door latch of crew cab pickup truck froze in open position. door can not close or be locked. door flies open while driving vehicle making vehicle unsafe and not driveable. discovered problem while driving on highway an door sprang open 40 mph.
The issue i have involves the door latches not functioning properly when outside temperatures are below freezing. once door(s) have been opened they will not latch when you try to close them. my local ford dealer has performed tsb 18n03 on all four doors (twice on the drivers side front door) and the problem still exists with the drivers side front door. vehicle must sit with the heat on for several minutes before latches will function again wasting owners time and gas. there were times that i had no option but to drive the vehicle while holding the door shut because it would not latch. i have a couple of videos to demonstrate the issues but the file size is too large to upload but would be willing to send to someone via email at your request. during my research this appears to be a widespread issue that ford has not remedied and is a safety concern when one has to hold the door shut while driving.
I drove off and the pass door opened up wile making a left turn . i tried to close it and the latch would not engage
Vehicle parked in home driveway at 4:30 am. outside temperature 26 degrees f. walked up to vehicle. opened driver's door and left rear door. attempted to close doors and neither would latch closed. after repeated attempts to close doors while standing outside the vehicle they still would not close. doors would bounce open when attempting to close. latches would not engage doors shut whatsoever. attempted to close doors from sitting inside the vehicle and same results. doors would not latch closed and remained stuck open. it was necessary to heat the door latches directly with a heat gun for 5-10 mins each before they would latch closed in order to drive safely. major safety concern and inconvenience making me late for work.this issues has happened 3 consecutive mornings now from jan 14, 2019 - jan 16, 2019. doors do not operate normally in below freezing temps.
During extreme cold weather, 0 degrees and colder, door would not close/latch. manipulated locks and door handle several times before doors would stay shut. all while parked
Temperature dropped to 20 degrees f this morning and the front passenger door will not latch shut. have tried locking/unlocking and moving latch with screwdriver but door will not remain closed.
In the morning i opened the front door, got in and closed the door and door would not latch closed. opening and closing the door multiple times door would not latch and would just bounce. i pushed the lock/ unluck button multiple times without success. i was going to be late for work so i just held the door closed. 30 minutes into my drive the while pushing the lock/ unlock button and the door finally latched. i have had the same thing happen now 4 different days and on both front and passenger and drivers doors. ford states there is no tsb for my 2018 ford. the truck is less than 1 month old. i have video of the doors doing such.
In below freezing weather my doors will not stay shut until the interrior of the cabin warms which takes nearly 30 min. but this vehicle is unsafe because doors can open while driving with latches not functioning keeping door secure.
The drivers door latch and lock freezes in cold weather. this happens any time temperature is below 27 degrees. door will either not open or not latch closed.very dangerous! on a colder morning, both right side door locks froze after i had opened them and drove away. in the event of an accident, in cold weather, i might not be able to get out of my vehicle! i also had to drive to work one day holding the drivers door closed! after air temperature or vehicle warms, latches and locks function normally. not good living in a northern climate.
The drivers front and back doors during cold weather will not latch and close.
Door latch issue caused major life and death safety issue. on a cold morning two days ago i left for work doors were all fully closed and locked. merging onto highway the passenger door opened and started to flap open and closed, at speed. i pulled over immediately and was not able to close door or get it to latch. i quickly looked for solutions online and to my dismay i saw the previous four years had a recall for same issue. i had to drive home with the door unsecured and flapping open and closed never latching. later in the day i had it towed to dealership as car is brand new and has 1400 miles on it. they said since there is no recall corporate won't let them do anything to fix it. a call to ford corporate said there is nothing they can do. i just paid for this truck and i am scared to drive it after this horrifying experience. i am not the first either based on what i have read. ford doesn't care about their customer safety and it's gross negligence. the consumer of this product need help!!
The doors of the f150 will not open or latched close when the temperature is below freezing.
I have a 2018 f-150 built at the dearborn plant on 06/12/18. the truck odometer reads 4,300 miles. i was driving in the truck when the temperature was below freezing. when performing a turn, the driver's door popped open. i was able to grab a hold of the door and tried to shut it. the latch would not function. i stopped the vehicle and exited. i slammed the door multiple times from outside and it finally latched. i called the dealer to make an appointment for service. the dealer stated that they have observed this on other trucks and that ford has issued a fix. the dealer claimed that they have had a 50% success rate on the repair, and that when it is not successful, the problem will become worse. because of the low success rate, i asked if it was still advisable to have the repairs made. they advised me to bring the vehicle for repair.
The doors will become unlocked and unlatched when driving. it was cold and i was leaving work. door would not shut at first. the door finally shut and latched. i pushed the lock button just to be sure. got on the highway and the door opened. i had to hold my door shut with all my strength while going down a highway. i couldn't leave it on the side of the road without the door shutting. it happened the next morning as well trying to get it to the dealership.
Doors won't close when 30 degrees or colder. periodically door locks freeze. issue occurs in both humid and dry environments. this occurs when the car is not in use, or if driven in cold temperatures without the cabin heat on. to resolve you must heat the doors to then close. ongoing problem all this winter requiring me to bungee cord doors close to drive, and periodically leave doors open while at work or going into stores.
I am experiencing an issue with my front passenger door. the door will either do one of two things. one, the door will not close at all, it won't even lock, it swings open freely and effortlessly. two, if the door is closed and locked it will not unlock. i have brought my vehicle back to ford for a fix. it has come to my attention that there is a known program for this issue already, program 18n03. two days later after the "fix" by the ford dealership the door issue still remains. i am scheduled to bring back the vehicle in the morning.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. while driving approximately 20 mph in the rain, the tailgate fell down. the vehicle was taken to sheehy ford of marlow heights (301-298-0793, located at 5000 auth rd, marlow heights, md 20746), but the failure could not be diagnosed. the failure recurred. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 4,500.
2018 f 150 super crew, right front door won't latch shut: 12/11/2018 after opening the door to put the kid's backpacks in, i could not get the door to latch shut. i had to run the seat belt through the handle in the door panel to keep the door shut on the way home. this is the third time it has happened, also happened 12/7/2018 and 12/8/2018. once home, i used a screwdriver to move the latching mechanism in the door several times and continuously hit the lock and unlock button. eventually the mechanism would free up and the door would latch shut. this scenario seems identical to the issue covered under ford tsb 16-0155 for 2015-2017 f-150's with the same problem.
My door will not stay closed when temps are below freezing. on one occasion mine froze closed. several other f150 owners have reported this as well dating back to the 2015 model year.
When we left the house, the first left turn, my front passenger door flew open. my door would not latch. after looking on the internet this seems to be a huge problem. this is a huge safety issue i can not believe there is not a recall for this. at my niece house in north carolina 12-09-2018
Door latches fail in open/closed state when temperatures drop below 32f. thought door was shut when re-positioning in driveway and door opened unexpectedly backing up. possibility of being locking in the car during emergency or ejected if not wearing seat belt. fixes for 2017/early 2018 are in my june 2018 build and vin is not on recall list but i experience the same problems that recall related fixes were supposed to solve.
Cold morning and the power door locks would not unlock with the remote or the key in the drivers door, after climbing in the back door to open the front neither the rear door or the front door would latch when the door was closed. extremely unsafe, could not drive the truck to work because the doors would not latch shut.
The door latches freeze making the doors difficult to open but more importantly you can't get them to latch once they're opened. this is a serious safety issue. ford appears to be aware of this and has issued fixes for previous model years. these fixes do not work and the problem is now with trucks built in 2018.
Door latch was frozen. i was unable to close my drivers door. extremely unsafe to operate with a door that won't latch close. happened twice this weekend 12/7/18 and 12/9/18.
Drivers side door will not latch closed when cold outside.
In cold weather, doors will not latch shut until vehicle is warmed up. both drivers side and passenger side doors. doors will not lock. door mechanism(s) need to be completely replaced. tried spaying lubricant on the mechanisms to no avail. major safety issue! this issue has occurred several times in one week.
Mode of failure.: door frozen shut, will not open from outside. if entry is made from another door, and frozen door lock latch can be opened from inside door handle or manually pulling up inside door lock, door may open, however door latch is still frozen and door will not close, rendering vehicle dangerous to drive. activating the power door lock mechanism, either remotely or manually from inside vehicle, can often result in internal damage to door lock assembly on a frozen door. if door handles are forced, doing so also can often result in internal damage to door lock assembly on a frozen door, rendering vehicle dangerous to drive. from researching this issue , the problem exists on 2015- thru 2018 f-150's. ford efforts to correct this poor design with numerous tsb's y& recalls seem to be not effective as the issue is still occurring in 2018 models and reports indicate the corrections are ineffective. for reference, below is a link to one of many internet threads on this subject. https://www.f150forum.com/f118/2015-frozen-door-latch-tsb-recall-poll-status-402319/ our f-150 is currently at irwin ford in laconia nh awaiting parts to repair damaged internal in the door. we told that ford will only replaced the damaged door and under warrantee ford will not inspect or other doors tat appear to be functioning. i maintain this is a systemic design defect that needs to be addressed. Door lock frozen requiring the door to be heated prior to unlocking. in temperatures below freezing the door latch will remain stuck open not allowing the door to be closed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hirvtjewcme
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. the contact stated that the driver's side door failed to open and close. the contact had to enter the vehicle through the passenger door and climb over the console to the driver's side. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to star lake ford (1212 main st, burgettstown, pa 15021, (724) 947-3381) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 5,800.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. the contact stated that the doors would not unlock and, occasionally, would not latch properly. the contact indicated that the failure occurred during freezing temperatures. shults ford of wexford (10401 perry hwy, wexford, pa) diagnosed that the failure was due to water entering the door cabin, which caused the locking mechanism to freeze. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 3,500.
Door latch freezing and will not latch and unlatch properly in freezing temps. has been into dealership twice already and was told nothing more they can do for me.
My truck was sitting in my driveway in below freezing temperatures . the next mourning after i unlocked and opened my 2 driver side doors the doors would not latch back closed. this has happened 3 different times. after i finally did get them to close i'm not confident that they will stay close while i'm driving.
Doors freeze and won't latch in below freezing weather
In cold weather the door locks freeze. the doors cannot be opened from the outside or inside. also if the door handle opens the door from the outside the door will not latch and stay closed. the door "bounces" off the door frame.
Whenever the temperatures dip below freezing, the door latches on the f-150 freeze and no longer latch. the colder it gets, the worse the latches perform. i am forced to drive long distances with a completely unsecured door. it has nearly caused multiple accidents, as when i make a turn the door flies open nearly striking nearby cars. i work 20 miles from home, and have driven 20 full miles with an unsecured door even after having my truck running for upwards of an hour before i leave the house with the heat on high. i have been late for work due to my inability to secure the door that my 2 year old daughter is supposed to be secured by. this is a serious safety concern that ford motor company is not taking seriously enough. i have had my truck in the shop three times now, and they can't seem to get it right. i have contacted ford directly, they just keep pushing it back on the dealership. the dealership keeps working on it, but they are saying that ford hasn't given them anything to work with as far as fixing it. i have also contacted the bbb in regards to this vehicle. by all the forums online, and complaints i have seen about these vehicles, i am clearly not the only person. ford keeps selling these vehicles, and does not disclose this problem with any of the consumers. then we are forced to drive unsafe vehicles while paying a premium price for them.
Anytime the weather is below freezing the drivers door latch is frozen shut. when it finally opens after numerous attempts then it will not latch closed again. this is apparently a well known problem that ford refuses to fix. i've been to the dealer twice with no repair.
In below freezing temperatures, drivers side front door latch fails to lock in closed position when door is closed, allowing door to open freely without using door handle. the only way to secure the door for transit is to either hold it closed manually or run a strap between the two interior door handles to keep it from flying open. after vehicle has been running for a while and interior is warmed up, latch begins working as normal.
All the door latches freeze making it impossible do open the door then when it opens you can't close the doors.
I have a problem with the dashboard panel of my ford f150 2018. this vehicle has the dashboard panel broken and bump in the ducts of front defrost area. also in the airbag of passenger is bump on the top. all models of 2015 to 2018 has the same problem. is a defect of fabrication. i report this issue to the dealer and them go to replace because has warranty. you can see this problem if you see outside on the glass front of your truck.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. the contact stated that another vehicle crashed into her vehicle, causing it to fishtail. the rear driver's side tire went into an embankment. there was a stump in the embankment that punctured a hole in the rear driver's side tire. the vehicle was unable to be driven. the driver's and passenger side air bags had not deployed. the curtain air bags deployed. within a short period of time, a fire erupted from the area of the driver's side window to the passenger side. the flames consumed the cabin of the vehicle. the driver and front passenger were able to exit the vehicle. there were no injuries. the dealer (heritage ford, 1600 shelburne rd, south burlington, vt 05403, 802-865-8140) was contacted more than twice and asked that the manufacturer be contacted. the vermont state police towed the vehicle to their yard for investigation. the vehicle was later included in nhtsa campaign number: 18v568000 (structure, seat belts), although the contact was not notified. the manufacturer was contacted when the crash occurred; however, the contact had not received a response in a reasonable time frame. the failure mileage was 10,000.
The vehicle is stationary and when the passenger door is unlocked with the key fob the tailgate fails down. when the driver exits the vehicle the tailgate falls down. by falls down i mean the tailgate on the pickup is closed and in the vertical position and the only way to open the tailgate is with the key fob. the tailgate fob is depressed and the tailgate opens (falls down) automatically. only the tailgate controls are incorrectly opening the tailgate when the passenger door is opened with the key fob or when you get in the back doors. also after driving the truck when opening the drivers door the tailgate drops down. if a child or adult happens to be behind the truck the can get hurt.
