We have classified the 2 complaints from 2018 Ford F-150 about STRUCTURE into the following categories.
Door latch freezes. door remains unlatched/open when frozen
The front passenger door will not lock in place, resulting in the door opening while driving or sitting still.
Drivers door will not latch in cold temperatures. happens periodically when vehicle is stationary or in motion.could possibly be the latch mechanism in the door. seems unsafe not knowing if the door will stay latched or not while driving.
When the truck gets cold around 30degrees, the drivers door and the passenger rear doors will not latch or stay shut. been to the ford dealer two times to fix the problem and still is a very big safety issue. the do's will not remain closed. luckily my truck was in the driveway of my home when this happened all 3 times.
The doors do not latch when it is 32 degrees f or colder. it has been into the dealership for recall 18n03 on january 22, 2020. on 2-02-2020 the latch froze again along with on 2-04-2020, the vehicle is not drivable. the recall fix did work. the door will open but will not latch. once the temperature rises, they will work again.

this is a continuation with complaint number 11307725 already filed. ford f-150 2018 super crew cab 2nd discovery of water leak in cab of truck with wet carpet padding and carpets again only this time the water leak was behind the back seats down the cab wall interior. called our ford dealership back and took our truck back in for them to assess this 2nd water leak. our ford dealership advised that they had to remove the truck bed to find this water leak coming in from the rear cab vents and locking tabs on vents. they also found the carpet insulator was behind the rear vents which caused the vent seal to warp and leak. they had to replace the rear vents completely then they retested for leaks and found no leaks at that time. they also replaced the truck bed bolts and had to respray in the bed liner over the bolts.
The first two mornings after it sat outside in temperatures in the teens the drivers door would not open from the outside. i had to open it from the inside by getting in through the passenger side. after starting it l could not get the door to shut until it warmed up latter.
When freezing temperatures drivers door doesn't latch properly
Passenger door lock freezes, door will not secure. passenger is endangered.
All four doors are subject to freezing. it is in for the second time. a recall has already been completed. the problem is the door will open and will not latch back closed. this results in having to drive the vehicle with the door unlatched and swinging open freely. this is a widespread issue that needs some attention. this is an unsafe vehicle when the door must be held shut while driving
The driver side front door will not stay latched/ closed.
Door latches freeze prohibiting entry to the vehicle and/or prohibiting the doors to latch and stay closed. particularly dangerous when driving and you have to hold the door(s) closed or if you don't know the door is frozen and you're surprised when the door swings open in traffic. ford has performed tsb service several times and is now stating there is nothing more they can do.
I bought this car from the dealer knowing it was involved in a car crashed but still is a clean title i hoped the body damage was repaired today i found out there's body or frame damage behing the door when i open or close it it makes a noise like an old rusty car,it was stationary when i opened it and saw the damage
Ford f-150 2018 super crew cab 1st water leak inside of our truck cab created a mildew smell due to wet carpet padding and carpets. water saturated electrical wiring under the door seal protectors on the right-side of the front and rear doors. first noticed a problem driving and applying the brakes we heard a water sloshing sound on the right side of the truck. indications of water in cab and saturated carpet's and wiring went unnoticed due to weather tech full floor mats. we contacted ford corporation online and they advised for us to take it into our dealership to be assessed. our dealership made an appointment a week out, so our truck sat in our garage for an additional week. we used a shop vac and sucked out as much water as we could and left the door windows down to help dry out the interior. the dealership removed and reinstalled the trim panels with silicone sealant on both doors on the right side.
Rear tailgate will come open by its self while driving
Drivers door opened backing out of my driveway. tried to shut it and it would not shut. it appears the truck has the freeze door latch issue that ford has been experiencing for the past 4 years. the nhtsa should demand a recall and make ford fix the vehicles correctly. so many people are getting the service performed and it is not fixing the problem. it is definitely a safety issue when you door can fly open at anytime.
When below freezing the door will not latch after open. vehicle operator needs to physically hold the door closed because door will not latch.
My f150 has a defective door latch/door. in the cold it freezes, you cant open the door or the door won't close/lock, it basically swings open. i have looked on the forums which i have found that this has been going on for the past 3 years. ford replaces the parts with the same parts which in some cases doesnt fix the issue. this is very scary if you someone closes the door thinking it locked and it swings open while your driving. also someone can be trapped in the car because the door is frozen shut. luckly i was home in my driveway when this issue happened. please look into this as someone can get hurt.
Transmission shifts very bad, cold. hesitates, and shifts late.warm, it will not shift when throttle is pushed after releasing throttle immediately before reaccelerating. left front door freezes bad in cold weather, twice in two days now, takes 15-20 minutes before it will stay latched. no other doors are affected. serious problem because the door may open while driving.recalls on this problem on other years. very dangerous.
When the temperature drops my doors either will not shut or not open properly. my front passenger door popped open while i was turning on a highway, and the force of it dented my quarter panel. i am having trouble getting ford to fix my damage and they are trying to blame the issue on me and make my insurance company cover the damage which in my opinion is a slap in the face because the truck is basically brand new. they know about the issue and have known for years and the truck is worth 54,000 dollars. i'm an active duty service member and i fight for my country, but never thought i would have to fight one of america's biggest manufacturers to fix something they know is broken. shame on you ford motor company.
In below freezing weather with moisture, the my drivers door would open but would not latch when closing it. i firmly closed the door 4 times and it would not latch. i took my key and inserted it in the door, turning it back and forth. the door would latch after that.
Rear tailgate randomly opens and will not close at times
I bought this truck in february of 2019. since then the tailgate has opened on its own while i was driving 5 times. this last time was on july 2nd, 2019.
Tailgate opened while driving on city street, notwithstanding that the gate was securely closed; had not been opened in weeks; and neither the tailgate release on key fob, nor the release button on the gate had been activated
The tailgate on my 2018 ford f-150 has the automatic open option from the key fob. i first experienced the tailgate had opened on its own when i went outside to go to work and found tailgate was open. i didn't think to much about it at the time. then while i was pulling a trailer i went over a speed bump and heard a what sounded like something had fallen over inside trailer. stopped to investigate and found tailgate had opened and fell on the trailer jack handle on the hitch. this broke the tailgate handle housing the button for opening tailgate, the light and backup camera. i had no idea how this could've happen. no way could the key fob could have activated the auto release as it was on the consul when this happened. i looked on the internet for any possible causes and found many others have had the same problem.
See attached
The truck tail gate fell out while opening it
I was sitting in my driveway with the vehicle in park. i opened my door and began to get out of my vehicle and it began to roll forward. my daughter's kids that she nanny's was getting out of her vehicle and had her door open. before i could reach the brake pedal my truck ran into her open door creasing it and almost crushing the boy that was exiting the vehicle.
Electric tailgate seems to randomly open on it's own. it does it when truck is running, or turned on, parked or even driving. very annoying and worried it will cause the tailgate to break or lose things in the bed. it does this several times a day. most recent was 12 in 1 day.
I purchased a truck in march 2019 ,it wasn't up to the specs represented, the dealer swapped the truck for another new 2018, on april 2019. the problem centers around the trailer hitch being represented as a class 4 hitch on the option package yet its is clearly labeled as only a class 3, up to 5000 #'s on the label on the hitch itself. i am not getting a definite answer from ford or the dealer as to what the towing capacity actually is at this time. ford refuses to send the proper hitch to the dealer to install and i've been given conflicting answers as to what it is rated for, and why the window sticker on some trucks say class four ,but the label on the hitch says only 5000#'s. the dealer went by the options supplied with the truck when they swapped them in april, only to find out that the same problem exists with this truck. i am concerned that if i tow my 7000# trailer i'll be out side the legal limit for the hitch, also it could be exposing myself and others to an unsafe condition. i have contacted mr. maurice hicks at d.o.t. and have passed along to him pictures he needed to identify the problem. he suggested i contact safercar to start the process . myself and the service manger at the dealer examined several new trucks on his lot and discovered that it seems to occur commonly as to the option package with the truck and / or the window sticker on the truck don't match the labeling on the hitch itself, saying class 4 but labeled for a class 3. i haven't been using the truck for over 4 months to tow anything over the rating on the label.
Tl* the contact called on behalf of the owner of a 2018 ford f-150. the consumer stated that the tailgate opened twice while the vehicle was in motion. there was no warning indicator illuminated. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the consumer to nhtsa. the contact worked for autonation ford katy (20777 katy fwy, katy, tx 77450, (281) 305-8949) and stated that the tailgate could be opened while the vehicle was in motion, especially with the key fobs. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was unknown.
I've been having issues closing my drivers door, every time that weather is under freezing temperatures my door won't close. the latch may is frozen and the door keeps open. i have a video as evidence, but i can recreate this issue almost every morning or afternoon when temperatures are below 32 fahrenheit.
My driver door latch was frozen and the door would not properly latch closed. i had to drive 26 miles, 98% interstate (70mph), holding my driver door closed. i had to use a heat gun to thaw the latch so the door would properly latch shut. luckily on the other 5 occasions where the latch was frozen, i was at home and was able to use a heat gun to thaw the latch enough so that the door would close properly. i have only experienced this issue with my driver door. as of today, 3/11/2019, my truck is at van horn ford of oconomowoc (wisconsin) having safety recall 18n03 performed.
2018 ford f-150. consumer writes in regard to not being notified about tsb 47270 that some models exhibit a dash panel distortion at the defrost duct area. *as *tr
Door will not latch in the cold. open fine will not latch shut. parked the vehicle for the winter mid november 2018 - outdoors in upstate ny. had the door on the winter beater (2009 volvo v50) freeze open. front passenger door on truck was frozen open as well. had to idle both vehicles for 1/2 hour to thaw the lock to where it would latch. had the same problem in the truck 2 months later when i tried to close the front passenger door which was opened to remove a dog leash from the truck. third time was 3/23/19 when the rear passenger door froze open while trying to get to a canine search with my dog. all cases the vehicle had sat for more than 24 hours.
We got into an accident over the weekend. we were t-bones by a bus. it wrecked the passenger side of the car. however, when i went into the passenger side to get my purse out i noticed that there were flames coming from the side of the drivers seat. our f150 is now burnt to a crisp. there's no reason for that truck to have caught fire like that.
Have owned 4x4 trucks (toyota) since 1984. at a quilcene, wa at rental home on sunday. heavy snows 2' overnight. power failed in building. no heat source. could not depart as both doors were frozen shut. called ford corporate and two local ford service centers. absolutely no help or awareness of the problem. this is a 7900 mile car with sales staff that did not notify me of the frozen door problem when auto purchased. how many incidents does nhtsa need to recall or demand manufacturer resolve this issue or are seniors expendable in this country?
The driver and passenger doors will not latch. worked fine when we bought the truck last evening. this morning with temperatures below freezing, doors opened, but then would not close properly. subsequent research on internet suggests this has been an ongoing problem with this vehicle and is the result of condensation problem freezing door latches. vehicle is 1 day old. how is ford allowed to sell me this vehicle?
My doors have been frozen open or closed all winter long. the came open going down the road at one point. ford can't seem to fix it.
Door latch freezing not allowing the door to stay closed.
I bought this veh in warm weather was not advised in cold weather ther doors will freeze up and you can't get into your veh. if the doors do get open they are frozen and the door will not shut. if need for medical reason your in trouble if you work in the woods with on cell service you are in trouble. ford has had this problem since 2015 and still has not fixed it in the 2019 f-150 pickups i went to the grocrey store the doors were working while in the store the doors froze up. i had to wait till the sun got on the veh to get the doors open. there are pictures of people who get the door open it is locked it won't shut so the bungicord the door shut to get to work. this is on the internet. how can this be safe. how long before ford is made to fix the problem. they are put grease in the lock but in most case this make the problem worst. please help
Driver side door (front and rear) does not lock or latch in cold weather.
When operating the vehicle in 18 degree farenheit temperature the rear passenger door would not latch. driver had to stop vehicle and close the door from the exterior. similar reports found on nhtsa site.
I just purchased our truck so the dealership washed it. i parked the truck for about 10 minutes outside in below freezing temperatures and the door latch on the front passenger door would not hold the door shut. the door would just bounce back open when i tried to close it. after playing around with the locks for a while, i was finally able to get the door to close. the following morning, the same thing happened to the rear drivers side door and again the passenger door while parked in my driveway. taking truck to dealership on monday to hopefully get it fixed. i've been seeing that this "fix" doesn't always work though.
On 2 different occasions the front drivers side door latch on my truck has stuck open and would not allow me to latch the door closed. i have had to drive home both times holding the door shut with my left arm and one hand steering the wheel. when going around turns i had to slow way down because the door weight multiplied with force and got very heavy and hard to stop from flying open..i dont know if the other latches on my truck would have stuck open as i was to afraid to try it and not be able to get them properly latched shut. after doing research online this is a huge wide spread problem with front and rear doors on 2015-2018 f150's and fords fix is to smear some grease and oil on it and put a cover over the latch has not been a successful fix on any of the vehicles they have done. it is in no doubt a safety issue. if the vehicle was to roll over in an accident and the door wasnt latched it would surely be crushed and possibly come back into the cab injuring a driver or ripped of exposing the driver and or passengers to hazards outside the vehicle. will the truck fair the same in a head on crash or front overlap crash as tested? i strongly urge whomever to take the time to investigate this issue and make ford fix this issue.. it is very dangerous and they are not taking it seriously.
After night of rain and falling temperatures, 56f down to 20f, front passenger door on 2018 f150 would not latch after being opened. rear door did not latch initially but after truck operated for some time rear door did latch.
I have a 2018 ford f-150. my doors will not latch closed at all when it freezes outside after it has rained or moisture was in the air (frost). i have had to drive to work holding it closed, not latched, multiple times. i have taken it to a ford dealership and the say there is nothing they can do each time. there are no recalls out for this model year. i had a 2016 f-150 that had the same issue and a recall was issued for it. ford calmed they fixed the problem. this is very dangerous and if i get in a wreck it could be fatal. i do not feel safe driving this truck anymore and there is nothing i can do to fix it. i have multiple videos of this issue as well.
Rear crew cab doors do not open after temperature freezes. (can not get into vehicle) at times rear doors will not close and fly open while operating. now passenger front door no longer opens using the intelligent access system with the door handle.
Tl* the contact owns a 2018 ford f-150. the contact stated that the front driver and passenger doors would not remain closed and could not be locked and secured. the failure would occur during cold temperatures. the cause of the failure was not determined. humphrey parkway ford (311 commercial dr, dover, oh) was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 7,500.
