Problems with 2014 Ford F-150 POWER TRAIN

On average, the 2014 Ford F-150 starts to “feel” problems with the POWER TRAIN and its various aspects after 49 881 miles.

Recently reported POWER TRAIN problems on 2014 Ford F-150

My first timing chain went out at 59,000 miles the second timing chain has went out at 87,000 miles again. ford will not provide warranty on the second chain that only lasted 27,000 miles and a ford dealership done the repair.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the vehicle down shifted to 1st gear without warning. the contact was able to safely guide the vehicle off of the roadway. the vehicle was restarted but failed to resume normal operation. the vehicle was driven to kindle ford-lincoln 525 stone harbor blvd, cape may court house, nj 08210 (609) 465-5000) to be diagnosed. the result was inconclusive. a transmission flush was performed however, the failure recurred. the vehicle then was taken to (ciocca ford of quakertown service center1531 park ave, quakertown, pa 18951(800) 737-0963) where it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 68,000.

The speedometer dropped to zero while traveling 50 mph and the truck downshifted to 1st gear causing the tires to squeal, fishtail, and the rpm's redlined.i was almost rear ended. this has happened several times in the past couple weeks.

I placed the vehicle in park. i left the vehicle running got out walked up to the gate to open it and the vehicle started moving on its own. this happened twice. the first time my wife was in the front seat and was able to stop the truck. the second time the truck pinned me between the truck and fence post. a friend was able to jump into the truck and get it turned off. the vehicle was stationary on flat ground sitting in open land not on a road.

When driving down the road transmission will down shift from 6th gear to first gear it did it on the interstate at 70 miles an hour. did it when it was raining. was the second time it did it. take it to the ford dealership they said they couldn't do anything unless it was showing a code. did some research there is a recall on ford f150.for 09-13 but mine has the same transmission as the 2013. more year's should be added to the recall. thank you

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 30 mph, the vehicle completely failed without warning. the contact restarted the vehicle and it resumed normal operation. the contact took the vehicle to rokstad ford (476600 us-95, ponderay, id 83852, 208-263-3127) to be diagnosed, but no failure was found. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that there were no recalls. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 12,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle jerked without warning and began to lose power on its own. the contact briefly lost control of the vehicle, shifted into neutral, and coasted the vehicle to the side of the road. the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). the contact spoke with lithia ford idaho falls (980 w broadway st, idaho falls, id 83402, (208) 525-8500) and was informed that diagnostic testing was needed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 51,000. *tt consumer stated most important fact was omitted. "vehicle downshifted from 6th gear to 2nd gear spontaneously."*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 30-35 mph and highway speeds, the vehicle downshifted on its own and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to smith ford (908 e oak st, conway, ar 72032, (501) 329-9881) where it was diagnosed that the molded lead frame needed to be repaired. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the contact stated that the failure was similar to nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train). the failure mileage was 110,000. *as *tr

2014 f150 w/~55,000 miles- (1) 7/30/19- carrying light load in bed (200 lbs+/-) & 2 people including driver, on major highway during rush hour accelerating up hill, had driven 15 minutes without issues. vehicle suddenly lost all power and tachometer red lined. did not notice if any warning lights on as was trying desperately not to be dead due to 18 wheeler right behind me. just as suddenly resolved after about 10 seconds. (2) 7/6/19- truck in park with emergency brake engaged, facing uphill on boat ramp with lightweight boat trailer in tow & in "tow/haul mode". (no boat, only driver & 200-300 lbs load in bed) disengaged emergency brake & vehicle rolled backward while still in park. braked. put in drive & vehicle rolled backward before finally engaging & able to accellerate up ramp. (3) frequently, since truck brand new, hear a "thunk" when shifting from park to drive (on flat surface) & especially loud, every time i shift from park to reverse (also on flat surface) & always doing either if on a hill. took to dealer when still under warrantee who says this is normal. i live in a very flat area so only discovered that transmission hesitates &/or slips on these occasions, after warrantee expired. taking it to my trusted mechanic who employs a certified ford truck master mechanic & has no financial reason to downplay issues.

I am experiencing symptoms like those outlined in the recall affecting 2011-2013 f-150 trucks (among other vehicles) with the 6r80 transmission. it shifts erratically and abruptly, and today, i had it downshift from 6th to 1st on the highway as i was changing lanes. thankfully the tires didn't lock up. the engine revved freely all the way to redline when this occured, given the history of these documented and reported issues, i'm unsure if the second wave of recalls from earlier this year managed to include all of the affected vehicles.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle downshifted into first gear without warning. the contact stated that the ignition was cycled off and on and the vehicle operated as intended for approximately 20 miles of driving before the failure recurred. the contact used an odb code reader to perform a diagnostic test on the vehicle, which indicated a p0722-output speed sensor failure. the vehicle was not repaired. nick mayer ford (located at 6200 mayfield rd, mayfield heights, oh 44124, (440) 449-1000) was contacted by phone and notified of the failure. the manufacturer was informed of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 131,000. piir= y.

Periodically speedometer starts moving erratically at constant speed. as a result of this the engine starts shifting gears rapidly. this week while driving 60mph on the highway, the engine shifted abruptly from 6th to 1st gear causing a very dangerous situation.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving approximately 40-50 mph, the vehicle vibrated uncontrollably. the vehicle was taken to crown ford (located at 256 swain st, fayetteville, nc 28303, (910) 920-9614) where it was diagnosed that the driveshaft needed to be replaced, and the brake calipers, rear brake drums, front brake pads, and front brake rotors needed to be resurfaced. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failures were still evident. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 158,000.

This vehicle has shut down during operation on several different occasions. the first, was a minor repair. the second, caused over $11,000 in damages, and now it has happened again. each time it occurs, the loss of power causes a decrease in the ability to steer and all systems shut down. with our children in the vehicle, we have been in fear for their lives as we have had to quickly steer the vehicle out of the lane of traffic and hope that we are able to come to a complete stop.

Transmission down shifts while moving, from 6th gear down to 1st, all gauges go to zero but truck does not power off. can accelerate but does not pick up speed. similar symptoms for the 2011-2013 f150 recall out now.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 75 mph, the vehicle stalled and restarted. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to best ford lincoln (579 amherst st, nashua, nh 03063, (603) 889-0161), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the contact researched online and stated the failure was due to the drive train. the failure mileage was 173,000.

I have 45k miles and was driving and the compression fitting on the transmission hose at the radiator sheared off. it sprayed transmission oil all over engine and roadway. there was a motorcycle behind me who luckily didn't go down due to the oil. i had to replace the transmssion line and fluid. i also needed to rent a car since i was out of town.

Transmission. sudden, unexpected downshift into lower gear while driving at highway speeds. while traveling down a mountainous canyon on an interstate highway my vehicle abruptly and unexpectedly shifted into a lower gear. the engine rpms increased dramatically. i put the transmission into neutral and after some seconds cautiously switched the gear shift back into drive. fortunately, the transmission had returned to the higher gear, and i proceeded to my destination. i'm concerned that ford's recall affecting 2011-2013 model years for sudden downshift, crash concern may not be broad enough since my 2014 model year appears to have experienced the same issue. this is a safety concern of paramount importance; if i had not been able to return the vehicle to a higher gear i could have experienced numerous hazards on a steep, busy, and winding canyon road at interstate highway speeds.

As i was entering an on ramp to the freeway, the vehicle suddenly downshifted from 5th gear to 2nd and the speedometer jumped from around 45 to less than 20 and back up again. after getting on the freeway, the vehicle seemed to have paused, the speedometer again jumped from 65 down and up again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle decelerated and both rear wheels seized. the steering wheel also seized and became difficult to steer without warning. the contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normally, but the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was not notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 80 mph, the vehicle downshifted into first gear and two unknown warning indicators illuminated. the contact continued driving 5 mph off the freeway, then coasted over to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normal. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 136,627.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle downshifted and shut off without warning. the vehicle was taken to watson quality ford (6130 n i-55, jackson, ms 39211, (601) 977-4557), but they could not duplicate the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 108,000. the vin was not available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while the vehicle was engaged in park, it rolled away on its own. the contact had to get inside the vehicle to depress the brake pedal and engage the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 44,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle downshifted from fifth into first gear intermittently. the vehicle was taken to smail ford (5110 us-30, greensburg, pa 15601, (724) 900-2107) where it was test driven, but they were unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. the vehicle was not repaired and was unsafe to drive. the contact stated that the vehicle was exhibiting the same failure as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 19v057000 (power train). the vin was excluded from nhtsa action number: rq17010 (power train) and the recall based on the year by the manufacturer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 36,000. *tt consumer stated it happened one time on 4/3/19. parts were installed on 2014. *jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the vehicle shuddered and failed to engage past third gear. in addition, the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the failure mileage was 159,000.

While driving down the highway at roughly 75mph the vehicles speedometer suddenly jumped to 105mph then down to 65mph, then to roughly 90mph and finally dropping to 0mph at which time the transmission suddenly shifted down into 1st gear causing the rear wheels to lock up while going 75mph almost killing myself. after this occurred and the vehicle stopped the ignition was turned off. once restarted everything seemed to be functioning as it should. a couple days of driving normally went by before the vehicle locked itself in 5th gear, the only way this was fixed was for the vehicle to be cycled on and off. a few more days of normal driving went by and the vehicle then exhibited shifting from 1st to 5th once speed reached about 5mph. this occurred until the vehicle was cycled on and off. from my research online this is directly related to the output shaft speed sensor in the transmission lead frame. 2012-2013 f150s were recalled due to these same symptoms, however, there has not been a recall for 2014's as of yet, even though they use the same faulty transmission lead frame.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving, the engine power reduced and the vehicle stalled on a hill. the contact stated that the gears failed to shift properly. the vehicle was reversed down a hill and the contact was able to pull off the roadway. the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer. the vehicle was towed to a repair facility to be diagnosed, but the results were unknown. the vehicle was towed back to the contact's residence and was unable to be driven. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was not available.

The transmission intermittently shifts down to 1st while driving or will shift to 5th while at stop light and will be hard to take off from the light. the very first time i had a wrench come up on the cluster display. it has happened 4 different time since november. when it shifts to first on its own it is while in motion. when shifting to 5th it always at a stop light or stop sign.

The shifter malfunctioned sitting in my driveway, trying to shift down into a lower gear, there was resistance, then the key would not come out of the ignition

I'm having two issues with the drive train of my 2014 f150. first is accelerating from a stop. its as if the driveshaft is missing a tooth and doesn't turn with the transmission. it hesitates then catches and you hear a thud like metal hitting metal. the other issue is far more serious. while on the highway i began accelerating to change lanes. as i changed lanes and put my foot down, the truck acted like it was going to accelerate or downshift and accelerate, but then did neither. it was like the gas peddle was dead. i took my foot off the gas peddle, then re-applied and it was fine. i however was almost reended. i've seen both of these issues by several folks on nhtsa website and other sites associated.

Had to repair the "lead molded frame & gasket" ! truck would jump threw gears while moving at any speed. final draw was when truck dropped to 1st gear while traveling 70 mph on i-64 east nearly causing truck to flip over after screeching tires and running other cars off the road! ford dealership maintenance dept. told me there were recalls for same problem on f-150's but not for the year 2014 as mine is!.. please note if it were wet/raining at the time this happened to us, there would have been a severe accident with possible casualties...!!!

No recall, but have had trouble with the transmission from day one, it jerks does not change gears the way they should, supposedly fix they installed a new transmission pump and still the same, say they cannot duplicate the problem . when on the highway have to slow down and then when you try to accelerate it jerks try to pick up speed

Vehicle entered limp mode while attempting to accelerate through an intersection of a city steeet causing sudden unintentional deceleration. vehicle no longer able to accelerate and had to limp onto shoulder. cel on and blue wrench on screen. the next day the same problem happened at highway speed resulting again in sudden unintentional deceleration.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle suddenly downshifted into first gear. the failure occurred on several occasions. in addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate properly. the vehicle was taken to corwin ford (3241 s. glenstone ave, springfield, mo) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. after the contact retrieved the vehicle, the failures continued. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the failure mileage was 70,000. the vin was invalid.

At 40,000 miles, had to have the throttle body replaced (extended warranty, so cost not material to me). concern is that on a 1300 mile interstate round-trip, my engine shut down 5 times. in each case i lost all acceleration without warning and had to coast to the shoulder of the interstate. my dash showed a wrench symbol, which would disappear after i had turned the ignition off, then back on (as if nothing ever happened). i subsequently learned that a defective throttle body put me into a "limp home" mode meaning i could continue driving only at idle speed. the limp home mode (i learned this term from reading a customer blog) caused immediate deceleration on the interstate at full speed 3 of the five times my engine shut down. had i just passed another vehicle or had an inattentive driver following me, i very well could have been rear-ended. a ford dealer, midway through my round trip, could not determine a repair code for this situation. only after the 5th engine shut down, did a "check engine" light appear. this allowed a second ford dealer, at the end of my trip, the documentation needed to replace the throttle body. very dangerous situation...the first ford dealer sent me on my way despite what now appears to be a well-known problem "internally" at ford. the 2nd dealership miraculously had a replacement part on hand and made the necessary repair within 8 hours...i believe only because i stressed the point about unsafe travel!

2014 ford f-150 ecoboost - at approximately 60 mph vehicle will shift into 1st causing the rear tires to lock up. will then shift back to 5th or 6th and drive normal. has happened several times with no warning before it happens. also will shift from 1st to 5th when pulling out and will not accelerate. will have to pull over and turn vehicle off, then restart. sometimes it will lose all gauges when doing this and throw a check engine light. check engine light will go out as soon as restarted. again, no warning ahead of time when it does this. seems to be the same issue that has been recalled in earlier model ford f-150s. have scheduled appointment with ford dealer.

Throttle body went out after 40,000 miles. driving down the road wrench icon pops up and a few seconds later the truck stalls and engine cuts out. take it to ford and that part is not covered under my extended warranty.. big surprise. talk to customer service and there is nothing they will do either. so out 600 because ford knowingly sells these vehicles when they know that thousands of people are having the exact same problem.

While driving the vehicle and in motion when passing another vehicle the vehicle started to stutter and lose power. the engine icon started flashing. the icon went away shortly after this but this is the second time this has happened. after checking online there are several issues in regards to the 3.5 ecoboost engine doing this.

2014 f150 has been diagnosed with a lead frame malfunction by a ford dealer. while driving on the highway at 60 mph automatic transmission shifted into 1st or 2nd gear by itself and instantly and dangerously slowed the truck to 20 or 30 mph. had to pull over, turn truck off then restart to regain normal control. very dangerous, almost lost control of the truck. found out this is the exact same problem as a lead frame recall for 2012 f 150s. why not 2014s? we could have been killed. why has this model year not been recalled?

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving approximately 65 mph, the oss in the transmission failed and the vehicle immediately lost power. the wrench icon and the check engine indicators illuminated as the vehicle was failing. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the oss failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and was unable to associate the failure with a recall. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

2014 ford f-150 xlt crew cab 4 door 5.4 coyote motor... i'll be driving down the road highway city street private road doesn't matter truck will shimmy go to 5th gear and stay there airbag light will come on display will save remove items from passenger seat.... it is done this about 10 times and a two-week time frame i can stop my truck turn it off wait a minute start it back up and it'll do fine for a couple hours sometimes a day and do it all over again

2014 ford f-150. consumer writes seeking reimbursement for repairs to throttle body even though warranty has expired. consumer states that repair was a factory defect. *ld the consumer stated the failure was repaired, but recurred. the consumer requested to be reimbursed for the second failure. *js *js

Turbo went in the truck which then cause engine and transmission damage. mechanic says the engine, transmission, and turbos need to be replaced quoting over 10k. also, a neighbor had a 2014 f150 do the same exact thing around the same mileage and i thought that was very odd.

Grinding/howling noise from rear end at 63,200 miles.. needed to have ring and pinion replaced

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving approximately 55 mph, the transmission downshifted independently and caused the vehicle to shift gears. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 35,520. *tt consumer had 2 incidents while driving 30mph when i heard and felt the transmission downshifting very rapidly also happened second time when driving 55mph.*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. the contact parked the vehicle in the driveway (on an incline), shifted the gear to park, and removed the keys from the ignition. the contact went inside the residence to retrieve a wheelchair for the passenger. as the contact was transferring the passenger to the wheelchair with the passenger door open, the vehicle started to roll away in reverse. as the vehicle was rolling away, the passenger in the wheelchair was dragged down the driveway and into the street. police report number: 17-24021 was filed. the passenger was transported to the nearest hospital with scratches and scrapes. the vehicle was towed to the dealer (legacy ford in rosenberg texas, 833-811-8141), but the cause of the failure could not be determined. the contact was informed that there were no failures with the vehicle and had no explanation as to why the vehicle rolled backwards while in park. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 23,477. *tt contact states there is a recall for 150 ford truck clip that locks gear shift cable to transmission. *tt

Transmission hesitate, when downshifting it not process quickly and make a grinding noise. in motion.

F-150 at 34,000 miles, under warranty, and only serviced by ford mechanics - when towing 6,500 lb trailer i receive message "transmission overheating powering down". truck then gears itself down and does not exceed 45 mph. this consistently now occurs when engine temperature hits 215. when towing i can not exceed 55 mph or temperature immediately climbs to 215 and transmission overheats. i have to pull over and let engine cool. this problem started in may 2017 and has never previously occurred. courtesy ford in pocatello, id repeatedly states there is nothing wrong and refuses to take any corrective action. because of this issue i have cancelled several camping vactions for my family as i fear truck will suffer a severe breakdown and courtesy ford will again refuse to honor warranty service.

I previously files a complaint about this vehicle. after diagnostics and repairs being done, it turns out that it is the lead frame that has gone bad. this is the same issue with the recall of the 2011-2012 f150's nhtsa campaign # 16v248000 and ford recall campaign# 16s19. our vehicle has the same transmission 6r80 and was built in the dearborn michigan plant. our vehicle was unfortunately out of warranty by 400 miles on this issue so we had to pay out of pocket. this year vehicle should have been included in the recall from 2016 and i have done enough research to see that there are many people all over the internet complaining of the exact same issue in the 2014 f150's. maybe ford should be forced to recall the 2014's for this safety issue before someone gets hurt!!! this issue caused our vehicle at 55 mph to come to a skidding halt on a very busy highway!! we could have had a serious accident!!

Almost had several accidents due to a downshift into first gear while driving at approx 55 mph. the truck downshifted into first gear, rear wheels locked up and i was barely able to get it off to the side of the road. i see on the internet that this has been happening to many ford f150's. saw a recall for the exact same thing but it only applied to 2011 and 2012 ford f150's. all owners felt that their year vehicle should be included in recall. i feel that the 2014 should definitely be included in the recall. my 2014 is doing exactly what the 2011 and 2012's have been recalled for. i only have 60k highway miles on this truck!! below you ask for dates of this happening. it has happened many times. the dealership has ignored this. i will post the most recent date that it happened.
