INSTRUMENT CLUSTER/PANEL 2

Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2014 Ford F-150

I was driving down the highway with my rear defrost operating. i smelled something burning that had an "electrical burn" smell. i thenheard a loud "pop". i looked in my rear view mirror and saw that my rear driver side back glass panel (sliding glass window) was shattered. this was especially concerning because my daughter was seated directly in front of the shattered glass in her car seat. i researched this problem and saw numerous issues with the rear window defroster in this model of truck. that explains the electrical burning smell.

Was having trouble starting my truck one day. cranking and cranking but not firing. sometimes it would eventually fire, sometimes it required a jump to get it going. took it into ford, they replaced the battery. didn't happen for a few more days. same thing. crank, crank, crank, but wouldn't start. did some searching online, and found similar situation regarding a burnt/melted fuse 27 (the fuel pump fuse). ford knows about this issue so much that they even created a part to move the fuel pump to a larger fuse. i'm glad this issue only happened while sitting still and i was able to get the fused replaced without incident. however, i would imagine that soon my vehicle would have stopped while traveling due to the fuel pump fuse completely dying. also seems like a fire hazard, or it could do further damage to the fuse box or to surrounding fuses. ford should issue a recall for this immediately.

I drove my f-150 eccoboost truck to the snow, same area i have been hundreds of times and suddenly smoke burst from the engine, then flames shot out around the hood, popped the hood and fought the fire for half an hour, it kept restating. it stranded myself and children, and we had a harrowing experience that was pretty dicey. ford had just put in a new engine, at my cost, +14,000.00, after the timing chain failed. they would not repair it at their cost, even though i have copies of the fault codes from before the failure of the timing chain that destroyed the old engine. the new one had under 10,000 miles on the new engine, probably about 5,000 miles on it. we had driven on the relatively flat grade mainline road, and drove up about 0.8 miles, climbing maybe 400 ft elevation over that distance. i was in the process of turning the vehicle around when the engine burst into flames. it was on a gravel road. we had traveled from home, 35.2 miles.

I got a left rear door ajar warning on the dash of my 2014 ford f150 crew cab pick up truck. i would check the door and it was closed properly. every time i started the truck i would get the warning. i made an appointment with ford to find out why this was happening. on the day of the appointment with ford, i started the truck and heard a buzzing type noice from the rear seat area. i got out to he truck with it running and opened the left rear door to search for the buzzing noise. as i was looking for the noise i started to smell plastic burning, then out of the left pillar between the front and back door smoke started pouring out of where the seat belt goes behind the cover where the seat belt retracts to. smoke and the smell of the plastic started to fill the cabin area of the truck. i shut the truck off. within about ten minutes the smoke cleared but the smell of burned plastic was strong. i then had the truck towed to miller ford in lumberton, new jersey. a preliminary report from ford is that the electrical harness in the door post and under the carpet area is melted. i am awaiting to hear from ford the final story at this time.

I was pulling out of a parking structure as i turn right and then try to sraighten into the street my steering wheel was not abel to turn n was making a funny noise as i tried to and almost crashed had to yank the steering wheel hard and was barely abel to turn enough to not hit a car now car is just abel to go straight.from my knowledge it has to do with the electric power steering the trucks come with and looked into it as i was parked as close as i could to the side of the street that the trucks are known for them giving out with no warning n a recall was done on a certain batch i called ford n dey said no my truck has no recalls n read up that the recall number was 14s09 n was happening to alot of those truck models

My 2014 f-150 platinum edition rear driver side window glass cracked this morning. auto started my truck and the defrost automatically turns on as it's warming up the truck. 5 min later after getting in the truck drove the truck for 10 sec or so and i heard a loud pop! my glass had shattered into the pieces. did research and seen i'm not the only one who has had this happen to them. the defrost sensor has been causing this to the 09-14 f150 and ford is not doing anything about this.. i called a couple dealerships and asked them about it and they also told me they have had a lot of other people call them about this issue. what is ford going to do about this? i don't really want to pay 1k out of pocket to fix something that's an issue with the manufacturer. if this has happened to anyone else, please put in a complaint so this can get resolved sooner than later! i'm just glad no one was in the back seat when this shattered at it was extremely loud and could've shattered on them! thank you !

Driving with the rear defroster on heard a loud bang and then noticed my drivers side rear window was completely spider webbed. i've read many other complaints about the same issue.

I have a 2014 f150 ecoboost and there is a recall from ford for a temporary loss of signal with the output shaft speed sensor however not for my year. i tried to go to ford to have them reflash the pcm like the other years they could not do it i have had my truck go into 1st gear on several occasions while on the freeway at 60+ mph. i have had it stutter in 1st gear and then shift to 5th with the wrench light turning on while trying to pull out into traffic

Vehicle fire. i started the vehicle up in my driveway and heard a small pop/explosion and smoke came out from under the hood. i immediately shut off the truck, popped the hood and could not identify the source of the issue. i started the truck again and noticed where the fie/smoke was, shut off the truck, and proceeded to rush into the house to grab the kitchen fire extinguisher and put the fire out. thankfully i was not driving and my house didn't catch fire. i called my mechanic and had the tow truck deliver the vehicle to him and they confirmed that it was the oem alternator that was the cause of the fire. i contacted the dealership wanting to report the issue and the dealership in their words said "not sure what you want us to do?" not are you ok, this is serious let us help, etc. just a simple passing the buck to a 1800 number to ford. i filed a case with ford motor company, but that too was a joke. they didn't care either. i was told they'll file it as negative feedback and since i was so upset, i was directed to create a complaint with nhtsa. i found this very disturbing as ford appears to not have cared one bit about their manufactured vehicle catching fire or the possibility of someone getting hurt or killed. i hope this complaint finds the right people and prevents a real accident or tragedy from happening. at this time i don't have the repair invoices as the fire did a decent amount of damage even though i did put it out within 60 seconds of it starting. the mechanics are still assessing all the damage done. since the fire was in the engine bay area on the bottom, there isn't much visible burn damage (and it is currently covered in dry chem from the fire extinguisher). i did file a case with ford as mentioned and if you need the case number i'd be glad to provide it.

No radio and time flashes on display.

Driving on i-10 in arizona pulling a camper engine suddenly shut off. pulled over, restarted engine, tried again, shut off again couple miles later. did this several times until we reached ford dealer. they found fuel system mini fuse had melted in fuse panel. with very little research found this has been a issue since 2009-2014 trucks. ford refuses to address this problem. they have a tsb for it. they move fuse to open slot in fuse panel & put a heavier fuse that can handle load. not only did this cost me $500. but also put me & my family in extreme danger (shut down on freeway with 18wheelers next to us) someone needs to make ford stand behind their product. i'm not the only one check f-150 forums, many others. thanks

Left for work this morning (april 29th 2019). temp was 48, left the hotel and turned on rear defrost, smelled a burning electronics smell within about 2 minutes after turning on the rear defrost and heard a loud pop as i was traveling at 35mph. i looked back to see my driverside rear window completely shattered. called ford and asked them if they new of anything, they just brushed me off. im concerned greatly more for the electrical smell even though im highly upset about the window. i dont want a vehicle fire. this is a factory defect, not a wear and tear item or a consumable. i am thoroughly convinced ford needs to fix this, both my window and the electrical burning smell. i worked at a dealer as a technician, if my truck catches fire, i will hire a lawyer.

Wiper motor, radio/ ignition system, remote locking/ unlocking & cruise control. 1st issue: wiper motor will not turn to off, the wipers run intermittently in the off position every 20-30 seconds the wipers will run. pulled fuse until repairs can be made to switch and/or module. 2nd issue: when ignition is turned off & key removed, and the radio is playing or off, a low battery warning message appears: remove ignition key and turn off the radio. the issue will not cure unless truck is vacated & locked. dealer can't replicate issue no repairs made but still occurs from time to time. 3rd issue: power lock/ unlock by remote does not communicate with truck intermittently, replaced both remote batteries still having issues getting truck to unlock/ lock. dealer can't replicate problem & no repairs are made. 4th issue: cruise control will not disengage when pressing brake pedal, have to turn off cruise control from steering column. this issue never returned to date of this complaint, no repairs made. this issue should be a safety concern. with all the issues with truck no warning dash messages or lights. thanks, (xxxx) parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle would crank, but not start. the contact referenced an unknown technical service bulletin (tsb) regarding a fuse burning out that needed to be relocated. the tsb also indicated that the fuse should be covered by a ford warranty. the vehicle was taken to sonora ford (13254 mono way, sonora, ca 95370, (209) 532-5593) where it was determined that the fuse was not covered even after the contact showed them the tsb. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was 75,000.

As i was entering an on ramp to the freeway, the vehicle suddenly downshifted from 5th gear to 2nd and the speedometer jumped from around 45 to less than 20 and back up again. after getting on the freeway, the vehicle seemed to have paused, the speedometer again jumped from 65 down and up again.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. the contact stated that the power locks on the driver's side door malfunctioned. as a result, the contact had to manually lock and unlock the door. jim hudson ford (1201 w main st, lexington, sc 29072, (803) 359-4114) advised the contact to call the manufacturer to be added to the list for an unknown recall. the manufacturer referred the contact to nhtsa. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the failure mileage was 60,000.

When ignition is turned off, and the radio is still playing, a low battery warning message appears with instructions to remove ignition key and turn off the radio. in the past, after several of these messages, there was no power to start the engine.

Turned on the rear window defroster to clear the window of ice, the unit overheated, did not blow a fuse, instead got so hot it burned and smoked and shattered the window! this happened in motion. this is extremely dangerous! ford needs to recall these windows!

On december 5, 2018, my 2014 ford f-150 fx4 caught fire at the bottom of my driveway. i went out to start my truck to take the garbage to the road for pickup. i put the truck in park and began to unload the garbage from the back of truck. after unloading the last bag, i noticed smoke coming from under the hood, by the time i went to pop the hood smoke and already taken over the cab and a fire had started underneath the passager side dashboard. i rushed to call 911, by the time the fire department arrived the truck was a total loss. the heater stopped working moments before the fire and the fire department ruled it an electrical fire, likely from the heat source.

Driving down the interstate at 70 mph, the "check brake system" warning flashed on the dash. i went to push the brake pedal and it was locked in place. i physically could not depress the pedal, not even enough to disable the cruise control. i had to switch cruise off on the wheel, shift to neutral, and coast to a stop on the shoulder of the highway. shut the truck down, turned back on and the code disappeared and my brakes worked again. later that day, the exact same thing happened on the interstate again. physically could not depress the brake pedal. it was like it was locked in place and i could not bring the truck to a stop. i took my truck into the dewey ford in ankeny, ia a couple nights later and they began diagnostics. 4 days later, they could not reproduce the problem, and advised me to come pick up the truck. nothing against the dealer, as they cannot fix what they can't reproduce, and they were kind enough to provide a loaner and a discount on the diagnostics fee, but ford corporate really needs to get involved on this safety concern. i've tried calling their customer service, but they will do nothing until it can be diagnosed. if the dealer can't find the problem, then ford needs to send a product support representative to diagnose it themselves. as of today, my truck has done this 4 times since leaving dewey, but always when i am too far from their store to drop it off. at this point, im scared to drive my truck in traffic or with passengers. please use your powers to relay this to ford as we have a serious problem that they are ignoring. i have a receipt from the dealer for the diagnostics if a copy of this is needed for my complaint.

The truck was brought for service initially because the ac blower was not working properly. it was turning on and off by itself. the dealership determined that the motor speed control module has to be replaced in order to operate normally. the module was replaced on 7/13/18. on 11/20/18, i brought the truck back to service because the ac blower wasn't working again. and after further investigate, the technician found the pigtail going to the module replaced burned. both of the times, the service was paid in order to get the work done, and the reason behind this issue was a high resistance caused the harness to get burned.

There seems to be a problem with the rear defroster system on all ford f150's from 2011thru 2016. it either just stops working causing a electrical short and possible fire and electrical damage or bodily injury if contacted by a person, or most commonly it will shatter the rear window causing a visual obstruction out the rear while driving. another issue with this defect is that when the window does shatter, it has been known to create a hole in the glass which could lead again to a person being injured with the broken glass. i did some research on this, and within 20 minutes i have discovered over 200 other customers with the same problem. unfortunately the dealers nor the customers notify the manufacture of the issue. i don't know how many of these have been replaced by warranty, but it seems that the ford dealers say it is a $700 repair because you have to replace the whole rear window and there for no one wants to take the responsibility of fixing it. this is a serious safety issue due to the risk of possible bodily injury and driving hazard restricting the vision while driving. please, could you help with resolving this serious issue. thank you

Rear window panel shattered in place due to the defroster overheating. there had been no prior damage to the window, and the window shattered while the car was stationary and idling in the parking lot at my work, only to defrost and warm up. in the attached images, it is evident from the picture inside the vehicle that the window has completely cracked, and from the outside, it is proven that there was no impact of a foreing object that resulted in this.

I have been having issues with my battery discharging . the ford dealer as changed out the battery 3 times & still have the same issue . something in the system is draining the battery .the dealer has checked it and still has not found the problem. if the truck sits for 2 to 3 day when i go to start it the dash lights up saying turn power off to save battery - system off to save battery. we have no after market equipment on my 2014 ford f-150 5.0 motor .

The power door lock actuators in all four doors have failed within a period of two months. when the actuators fails, the door will no longer lock/unlock with keyless remote or by using the inside button to unlock the doors. only the driver door has a key hole, so when the other rdoor are not working, the only way to unlock the door is from the inside. occasionally while the door actuators is not working, the door is difficult to open from the inside as if the lock is difficult to unlock. the only repair to fix the actuators is by replacing the entire door latch mechanism. i worry the door would become inoperable and unable to open someone could be trapped inside. another concern is vehicle theft due to the door not looking as assumed when pressing the button.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while operating the vehicle, the rear defroster failed to operate. the failure was not diagnosed or repaired. the local dealer (amato ford, 1510 main st, mukwonagon, wi) was notified of the failure. the manufacturer was notified and no s*olution was offered. the failure mileage was 30,000. *tt*jb

When i am driving, and i attempt to accelerate(press gas pedal) the engine loses power. i then have to coast to a stop and put vehicle in park, turn engine off and restart, and drive on. sometimes it does it again.sometimes it doesn't. it's does it when i'm on road ways. dangerous it happens in traffic.

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph and towing a 2012 kz sportsman travel trailer, the vehicle lost power. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the local dealer (ed corley ford, 1870 w santa fe ave, grants, nm 87020, (505) 285-4695) where it was diagnosed that a fuse was damaged, the battery needed to be replaced, and a new relocation kit needed to be installed. the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. on another occasion, while driving 55 mph and towing a 2012 kz sportsman travel trailer, the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was towed to mojave auto group (1010 w. main st., barstow, ca 92311, 760-256-2241) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump and sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact called the california highway patrol due to being stranded in an unsafe location. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: cas-16131250. the manufacturer stated that the resolution of the repairs would have to made with the local dealer. the failure mileage was 62,000.

The service advancetrac and hill descent control fault come up on my dashboard and my power steering does not work. while most vehicles can be driven without power steering but this truck is not drivable without that feature. the lights and blinkers do not work. these faults happened while driving and i almost lost control of my vehicle and crashed. i'm lucky i didn't hit and kill somebody. this is a huge safety issue for which afford already knows about but refuses to fix our truck.

First received advance trac warning, then hill descent warning and then power steering failure indication. power steering failure was sudden and unexpected and almost caused an accident when in motion doing a turn, due to electronic power steering system lock up which prevented the front wheels from turning as much as expected. this is a very dangerous unexpected condition and could have caused a serious accident with injuries or worse if occurred at highway speeds!

The connector that plugs into the blower motor resistor is loose and gets hot causing the connection to be lost is there a recall on this connector. from what i have read and heard that there has been trucks catching on fire and burn to the ground. if you could please contact me at (xxxx) parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)

2014 ford f-150 serious loss of power steering issue, notice going out at certain inclines of highway, checked fuse on batter looks ok, noticed different levels of ac/heat fan speed variations, warning lt. reads check advance traction control. should be a recall according to complains i've read on issue..

Tl* the contact owns a 2014 ford f-150. while driving approximately 70 mph, the instrument panel display screen failed to illuminate. the contact stated that the screen intermittently froze and failed to illuminate. the failure recurred and the front passenger side air bags deployed. the contact heard an alarm and the side air bags deployed when the contact attempted to unlock the door. the passenger sustained a minor injury that did not require medical attention. a police report was filed. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. the vehicle was later towed to an unknown dealer located in alhambra, california for diagnostic testing and repairs. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 56,000.

The 20 amp fuse for the fuel pump relay overheated and melted causing the engine to stop. this problem had been showing up intermittently, only when starting, for about 2 weeks. searched on-line and found that this is a very common problem for f150 trucks and that ford is aware of the problem, has issued a service kit to change the fuse to a larger version but has not issued a recall.

Ford f-150 2014 had an electrical issue that caused it to go up in flames as i was driving it down the highway at about 60 miles an hour. i first smelled a burning odor, then i looked in my review mirror and saw smoke, then i started seeing flames in the back passenger corner of my back seats. by this time the truck was very smoky but i was able to safely pull aside to the shoulder of the highway. i made an attempt to open my driver's door, but it wouldn't open and i then broke the glass to open the door from inside out. as i exited my vehicle and walked around the back of the truck i grabbed a towel out the bed of the truck and got on the ground to try and stop the flames at that time i could see a wire burning between the bed and the passenger cab of the truck as it made loud popping noises, then the truck just burst into flames. i called 911 and they called the fire department , they came out on the scene and put the fire out.

Truck has 46665 miles. when driving first 10 minutes (city driving) vehicle shudders, shows wrench indicator and goes into limp home mode (no accelerator). have to pull over, turn off ignition and restart engine. problem code shows p2112 (throttle actuator control system...stuck closed). this may happen 3 times in first 15 minutes of driving, but then goes away when car warms up. i have also noticed abnormal exhaust smoke and bad gas mileage. having truck go into limp home mode in middle of traffic is very dangerous.

Rear drivers side panel wwindshield shattered . turned on rear windshield defroster and after a minute or so heard a large bang. was driving to work. straight. temp wa in the low twenties. got snow and ice in lake county illinois.

Truck was parked in driveway. remote started, sat for 5 minutes in driveway. entered truck and heard a pop. looked in rear view mirror and noticed drivers side pane of rear power sliding window had shattered, apparently the rear window defroster over heats the glass and causes it to explode. having dome some research this has been happening to many f-150 owners from 2010 right up to 2015. ford refuses to replace glass. ha there been a child in a rear facing car seat in the vehicle it could have caused injury from the shards of glass. this is a wide spred problem from what my research shows.i implore the nhtsa to issue a recall on the defroster and have ford motor company absorb the cost of repair and replacement of windows affected by defective defrosters. vehicle has 30k miles on it, not accidents, no negligence by owner

Driver side hvac blend door failure seems to be defective based on number of failures. blows only hot air (full heat).

While driving down the interstate at 70 mph. truck died completely, dash flashed "put into park" my 15 year old son was driving and has sence to put it in neutral instead. he manuvered to the shoulder from the inside lane. the truck interior lights come on, but nothing else. no power to anything when key is inserted. we are lucky we weren't killled. this happened last saturday january, 27 2018. road conditions were dry and it was around 50 degrees. 65,000 miles on truck. 2014 f150 eco- boost 3.5

Used remote start this morning to warm up the truck, when i went to leave the rear drivers side window was shattered due to something with the rear defrost.

My rear defrost caused my window to shatter then it started melting the plastic around the window. smoking and burning. i had just left my home it was 40 degrees in south carolina had the front and rear defrost on. at a stop light i heard it pop and smoke was pouring around the rear window. it continued to smoke and burn even after i turned the defrost and the comfort system off.

This is an intermittent problem. the right rear door will not unlock or open from the inside or outside. does not matter if the engine is on, the vehicle is moving or stopped. i feel this is a safety issue as the passenger on this side can not escape in an emergency.

The rear defroster shattered the rear window.

Emeerency brake system failure. emergency brake will not release. emergency brake light comes on when vehicle shifted from park to drive. emergency brake light alarms and displays randomly while driving down road. emergency brake system alarm will not release after multiple pull attempts.

Main wire harness is routed outside.of the frame rails. mud is pulling the wire harness off of the vehicle.

Remoted started my f150 as i normally would in the morning. entered the vehicle to hear cracking, looking in my rear view and noticed the rear window shattered. smoke was coming from the lower corner. enter the truck bed to get a better look and the rubber in the lower corner was burning and melting. shut truck off. it appears the rear defroster malfunctioned and could have caused a fire. the truck is at the dealership now. no recall and they did not take the issue very seriously.

The automatic locks on the doors stopped working on the vehicle. we took the vehicle to a local dealer and were told that the problem was electrical and could eventually impact all electrical functions in the vehicle. they said there was a short on one of the doors - they replaced the bcm and driver rear door latch which cost $900. as the vehicle was not even 2 years old, we could not understand how this could have happened and it was not covered under a warranty. recently, we read of a recall on 2015-2017 ford f-150 trucks related to potential door problems ('frozen door latch or bent or kinked actuation cable') and were wondering if this was the same problem we experienced with our 2014 model.

The rear window defrost stopped working. 3 ford dealerships indicated this is widespread with this vehicle. with snow sticking to the window, visibility for reversing to avoid other vehicles, obstacles and pedestrians is greatly reduced. a vehicle this large, even with rear camera and mirrors should have the best visibility possible.

Rear window shattered after turning on rear defrost. vehicle was stationary in my driveway at the time.
