Problems with 2013 Ford F-150 STEERING

I drove the truck from home to work and around school zone which is a city street. i pulled over because children were getting out of school when i try to fix the truck to the side walk i turned the steering wheel to align the truck ,all of a sudden it got locked .no one got hit!! but, it was scary. did not expect this to happened. the steering wheel does not turn left or right. so, aaa towed the truck to 15505 roscoe galpin service at north hills so,they can check the problem. i told them it had two recently recalls and they said is has nothing to do with them . and said it's going to cost me 1670 dls. also, the display showed service advanced trac . when it happened.

Epas (electronic power assit sterring) sensor failed, electronic steering fails and acts if there is no power steering causing very diifficult manuvering. ths could easily result in an accident or fatality. several on-line complaints about it.

Power steering is starting to fail. the symptoms are difficulty in turning, wheels not returning to center after a turn, complete power steering failure. the biggest problem is that the epas system is married to the rack and pinion assembly so the entire assembly has to be replaced instead of just the epas. about a $2000 repair. i understand parts break but but having to replace a major part of the steering package is very poor design.

While driving, the steering seized up making the vehicle nearly impossible to control. multiple warning lights: "service advanced track, power steering, hill descent assist". dealer reports that epas system has gone bad/failed. i've read numerous reports on the steering/electric issue. this is a major safety concern and needs to be recalled. this truck is in immaculate shape and has 67,000 miles on it. steering should not be failing. please get a recall going on this before someone dies i also had a wheel stud/bolt sheer off two weeks back.

Traction control light came on i don't have power steering at all in my 2013 ford f150 eco-boost and i noticed when it's really cold outside i don't have power stering

Initially noticed subtle issues with steering while driving on a city street and interstate, followed by a warning message on my dash board stating 'power steering assist fault'. power steering completely went out temporarily, leaving no option but to put the truck in park, and turn the vehicle off. dealership stated the entire steering rack needed to be replaced due to this being an electronic system. when researching, it appears many other ford vehicles have had this issue, and not just with f150s. other years were recalled due to this same electronic power steering design, just not my year. appears this is the same faulty design.

While driving heard a noise then lost all power steering.

Steering first started making groaning noises on tight turns, within a few days, got so bad i could barely steer it. mechanic diagnosis is that steering rack/electris steering assist system needs to be replaced. he also said that the replacement part has been redesigned to help prevent this kind of problem, which seems common. this suggests that it is a design flaw with serious safety implications-- danger of not being able to steer at various speeds, to include when towing heavy loads, as i was doing when it was going bad. if a design flaw, why is this not already a safety recall?

My power steering went out going down the road almost pulled the truck out of the road. almost caused me to crash

Trouble with steering. getting feedback in the steering wheel (noise and vibration). at times steering is difficult and not returning to center on its own. in motion, any road condition, turning and not turning any speed. after reading hundreds of complaints believe the problem to be the steering gearbox.

The message "power steering assist fail" message appeared on the instrument panel and was very hard to drive vehicle and to negotiate turns to get home from work on friday evening, 6/7/2019. had vehicle towed to the local ford dealer on saturday and have not heard back.

Steering is bad , when in motion

I was driving down the road and lost all power steering resulting in almost wrecking into a gulley at a speed of 65mph

Driving truck on a two lane road when the power steering suddenly went out as i was rolling up to the stop sign. i managed to control the truck and get it turned around and back to my house without problem, but could only imagine what could have happened had i been on the interstate at a high rate of speed when this happened. after research, i saw that this was a known issue and that there have been some recalls but my truck was not one of them. took it to the dealership and they repaired it for $2300. said they had to replace the steering column. called complaint line at the corporate office and they paid $700 of the $2300 which we are grateful for, but still feel that it should have been repaired as a recall issue and therefore no charge to us. this has been a known issue with the steering in ford cars and trucks for a number of years. this truck is a 2013 and only has 40,000 miles on it. one would not expect such an expensive repair to be necessary on a truck with such low mileage. and surely a safety hazard if this had happened in heavy traffic or at a high rate of speed.

All of the sudden steering got hard to turn. it doesn't feel safe to drive. there are thousands of complaints on the internet. and when we called the dealer they knew exactly what it was doing. same thing the 2014s were recalled for.

Power steering stopped working without warning on the freeway, causing me to veer onto the shoulder until i could manually regain control. no dash lights came on. power steering is working intermittently, but not functioning more than functioning. searched online and found that there have been recalls for other years with the same equipment due to this, but not 2013. i've found literally thousands of complaint about this same issue, but nothing is being done. someone could've easily been killed. this is an extremely expensive repair, and i still won't feel totally safe in my vehicle anymore knowing that this can randomly happen at anytime.

Serious vibration at or around 45 to 70mph . steering wheel vibration , front end vibration . usually around the time the transmission temp hits the normal temp truck starts vibrating . usually starts at 40mph and gets worst with higher mph . bought the truck back in nov of 2018 all was fine till about 2 months ago when the vibration started . not very happy.

On 4/2/19 while driving at approx. 50 mph, all at once, the speedometer dropped to 0, air bag light came on, and the truck started running an idling rough. when we got to our destination we were planning on calling on someone to pick us up. we started the truck to move it out of the way, and it was back to normal. we drove home no problems. i drove the truck to work the very next day, 10 minutes away, ran errands, about 30 minutes driving, and went back to work. still no problems. as i was getting ready to leave work, i hadn't been driving but a few minutes, then the truck all of sudden downshifted to first gear. i almost lost control. i was up to about 45 mph at this point. the back end of the truck kept sliding until it finally slowed down. luckily i live in a small town with not a lot of traffic. i am not going to attempt to drive it again until out local dealership checks it out. i called the dealership and they have advised us to bring it there on monday april 8th, and leave it with them.

Service advancetrac, power steering failure, hill descent control fault lights all come on and power steering has stopped working. previously these would come on as soon as the trucks started, lights come one, shut truck off, restarted truck and lights went off. this has happened twice. third time lights came on while driving and power steering completely went out while traveling down interstate.

I was driving and without warning the steering became extremely hard to turn. if my wife would have been driving this vehicle she would have not been able to turn and possibly had a very bad accident.

Infamous ford death wobble for the second time on this vehicle. the first time was in the early period of ownership. it was fixed. in february, the death wobble started again. the truck has 182,000 miles on iit. i have spent $3,000 at goodyear getting most of the front end components replaced before they threw there hands up and could not fix it. i am presently $1,100 into repair at tomball ford. they do not know how to fix the problem. this is an issue with these trucks and i do not know why the nhtsa is not doing anything about this. it is extremely dangerous.

Intermittent power steering assist failure, results in a difficult to control, and potentially deadly situation. first happened at appx 20 mph while cornering, and momentary exit of lane into oncoming traffic until able to wrestle vehicle back into lane. i was on a curvy country road.

After getting off of work at 1130 pm i went out to warm up my truck. after bout five minutes i went back out to leave got in the truck began to go home . to my surprise not far down the road when i went to go around bin(corner) my steering had locked up and i could barely move it. luckily i didn't go off the road and didn't get into wreck or anything over this although it was still pretty scary. the dash would beep and flashed power steering assist fault. so i call someone to help me then get on my phone google in power steering assist fault and the year make and model of my truck and it shows me that there had been a recall on that product or whatever the case may be and this is obviously a repeated problem with this truck. tried talking to the ford people and not only were they rude but was told it wasnt their problem basically cuz the vin number did not show the recall and i can take it up with the dealership. how can they just do that? there are several complaints on the same thing and i could have very easily been hurt as well as anyone else with this problem.

Experienced common epas failure multiple times. have experienced at high speeds, losing control of all steering. this issue has been well documented all over the internet, and is actually a recall in some ford vehicles, including the 2014. but they have not issued a recall for the 2013. this is a major concern and safety issue. i've received this issue when vehicle gets wet from rain or car wash. and i've also experienced it when hitting a bump at both low speeds and high speeds. such as a bridge deck seam on the freeway, pothole, rumble strips, gravel road washboard etc. when hitting these bumps, or when caused due to moisture, "service advance trac" message comes on dash, and all power steering is lost until vehicle is turned off and started again. not only is this an extremely expensive fix, it is extremely dangerous, and could put a driver in a life and death situation. this needs to be recalled by ford on all vehicles they manufactured with this epas system in it.

Ford f-150 prower steering assist failed resulting in a near death experience. making a left in alameda on to high st. string failed and i slammed on my brakes to avoid going on to the curb. i was stuck in oncoming traffic while cars swerved around me.

Power steering went out while towing a trailer. almost went into a ditch at high speeds. glad me and my passenger didn't die.

While driving the steering wheel becomes extremely difficult to turn. this happens intermittently and so far has not killed anybody. i reported this to the dealer when i had the transmission shift programming recall done, and the service advisor wanted $130 + 10% shop supplies + tax to check it out. i am still under extended warranty, but he said if their were no eroor codes related to steering and if the steering shaft was not bent, there was nothing they would do for me.i declined to pay because the problem happens intermittently and cannot be reproduced on demand. this happens mostly when making a turn from a stop stop sign.

Vehicle stationary, 18f. steering completely frozen. not steering column/lock. problem seems to be in electric motor? no fuses blown. no warning light/check engine light. just (routine) serviced 12 sep 18 at ford. mechanic appointment scheduled for 31 oct 18.

Power assist failure

Rack an pinion defect. all over the forums same run of truck between 2011 and 2013 with traction and hill decent mode errors loss of power steering in bad situations like on highway. ford dealer acknowledged many complaints but ford will not honor repair. my blinker failed power steering locks up and ford says have to replace whole system

Lost electronic power steering while driving.

At 99k miles the epsa went out on my 2013 f150 4x4. truck was never mistreated over 95% of the miles are highway miles. i find it odd years before and after have recalls for the same problem but not for 2013. i was pulling out of my driveway when this happened

Lost complete steering became very hard no warnings either. very dangerous and i had to pay for the full repair there should be a recall for that it is a very dangerous situation to be in especially because it happens with no warning what's so ever

While driving home the power steering assist warning came on and lost all power steering. was very difficult to steer. had it taken to dealer was told this is common problem with the power steering just going out. mileage was 59845 miles

I have a 2013 ford f150 fx2 and when driving the past few days, the "power steering assist fault" signal came on and i automatically lose power steering in the truck. this has happened when starting the truck but also while moving and driving on the road (roughly 40 mph). luckily, i was on a low traffic road to where i could get over however, this could be extremely dangerous on a busy highway. if my wife was driving at the time, she wouldn't be able to manually pull the steering wheel and get off the road and potentially get into an accident. based on research, a lot of fords are experiencing this and action needs to be taken!

Upon start up, when leaving walmart parking lot hill descent control fault and service advance trac came on the display. i lost all power steering!!! after further investigation, this seems to be a common issue.. this is a major safety concern! if this happened at high speed in a corner this could be deadly!!! this issue needs to be addressed by ford! major safety issue! needs to be recalled....i am taking it to local ford dealer asap!
