Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2013 Ford F-150

I pre-started my truck this morning 10/19 w/ autostart on fob. the truck was stationary. i loaded both my 1 yr old and my 3 year old into their car seat and went back into house to grab my raincoat. when i returned the exterior near bottom left rear glass was significantly smoking/smoldering. 2 seconds later a small 2-3' flame started in the same area on the weatherstrip. i turned my truck off. i happened to have my phone in hand and video taped the moments following. the flame self-extinguished and shortly after cake a loud bang. in line with the sound of a small caliber handgun. the sound was the back glass exploding. luckily the tint kept the glass sheet intact. this is the 2nd time this has happened. 1st with no kids in the car on 12/15. fire was no less than 12' from my sons head, had the power not been secured there would have been a significant chance of running up the combustible weather-strip and potentially igniting the vehicle cabin. i feel i am able to make this claim based on the fact i am employed as a career municipal firefighter. this is unnaceptable for any truck especially one with 44,500 miles. the only way ford will investigate is for me to pay for the cost of diagnostic. not covered under warranty.

Within 5 minutes of starting the vehicle i smelt a burning plastic odor while entering the highway. once on the highway i noticed my a.c. was not working, i rolled down my window and attempted to turn up the blower speed. shortly after smoke starting blowing out from the vents, the defrost area, and around the touch screen. within minutes the smoke was thick and green with an electrical fire odor. (i could identify this as i am certified through the state of missouri, firefighter 1 and 2). i used my left blinker to pass a vehicle to exit the highway, the smoke intensified to where i couldn't see or breathe. i exited the hwy. i parked in a private lot and exited the vehicle as melting flaming plastic was dripping at my feet, and opened the hood. no flames present under the hood. i looked through the pass. window and flames were pouring from under the dash with a starting point of the center of the dash area. within minutes the vehicle was fully involved.

Driving on the highway at 60 mph the brake system hazard light illuminated. the electronic breaks did not work properly. it was raining slightly and the roads were wet. first incident of this happening, the sync system/ touch screen has froze and not worked both in motion, and stationary 3 times. concerned that all electrical issues may be related. have owned used vehicle for 50 days, just went over 60,000 miles.

On a trip, september 20th going to the smoky mountains, our 2013 ford f-150 pickup truck suddenly lost power. we were on mile marker 295 eastbound on interstate 40, in the left side passing lane going about 55 mph up a hill. the engine stopped with no warning. the dash screen flashed a picture of a wrench and then said "low oil pressure." the oil pressure gauge showed no pressure. i thought the engine had blown. as i tried to navigate to the right side of the road, while on a hill, many semi-trucks slammed on their brakes trying to avoid my truck pulling a 5th wheel trailer. we miraculously avoided a possible major accident. ultimately we learned it was a small $0.50, number 27, 20 amp fuse to the fuel pump that caused the engine to stop. we were stuck on the side of the road for 2 hours until we could get a tow truck for both our truck and 5th wheel. ford is aware of fuse 27 (for fuel pump) frequently melting. they even have a relocation kit to move the fuse when it melts due to overheating because of its location. in our case this nearly caused an accident involving semi trucks.

On first occurance, truck was in motion on highway. vehicle lost power, gages zeroed out and engine light came on. pulled over nad restarted vehicle and it ran fine and engine light cleared. multiple loss of power occurances. does not throw a code when diagnostics are ran. tonight, when merging onto the interstate, while accelerating, truck lost all acceleration, all gauges stopped working and engine light came on. restarted the truck, gages did not start working unitl truck was turned off a second time but the truck was driveable. engine light did not clear.

When backing up, my rearview sensor did not sound and we hit a palm tree, which damaged the tailgate, sensor (more than already). normally, this backup sensor will sound when anything is in the way or even close. this did not happen.

Battery voltage light kept coming on, truck engine died while slowing down on highway to exit. restarted after sitting briefly.. when trying to start on another day, starter would spin but wouldn't start. after dealer changed battery and alternator, problem continued. brought back to dealer. noted melted fuse for fuel pump relay. installed kit to reposition fuse and wire for fuel relay pump.

Fuse melted to junction box causing truck to shut off while driving and power steering to go out. truck would not restart and would turn over but would not stop even when key was not being turned. traction control came on at the same time power steering went out going around a corner posing a serious safety issue and almost causing a wreck. took truck in to get serviced and was told this is a manufacturer problem and that they have had this same issue multiple times.

While driving up hill on the highway at 60 mph, the vehicle completely lost power, power steering included and shut down. while parked in my driveway (head in and at a slight grade) the vehicle would not start. please log onto the following site for several other people this is happening to or google it. http://www.carproblemzoo.com/ford/f-150/other-fuel-system-pump-problems.php this is an extreme safety issue and should be recalled. ford issuing a bulletin (not publicly) and expecting their customers to pay for this issue is ridiculous. a recall should be issued before someone is killed while traveling on a highway at high speed and loses the ability to control the vehicle.

Fuse #27 for the fuel pump is burning up on one side. engine stalls intermittently. will not restart for a while after.

Fuel pump fuse melted causing truck to lose power while on freeway. very dangerous.

Now the second time in and the truck doesn't even have 50k miles on it. truck would turn over but not start and left my wife and kids stranded in a parking lot where i had to go get them. it's hot as heck in june/july in texas so i know it isn't a cold weather start thing. researching online we are not the only ones with this problem. eventually leaving it there and messing with the key and ignition switch i'm assuming it started after a few hours. the truck was not over heated.

Hvac is costing a fortune. continually in dealership to repair but stops running. no heat or air

While driving down the highway, the vehicle flashed service advance trac, down hill descent control fault, trailer brake module fail and a couple more codes. all electonics in vehicle went blank, including all controls/gauges. before doing so, last code read, shift to park. almost caused me to have an accident, because the power steering went out and nearly pulled me into another vehicle. the acceleration is bad too, feels like it is not firing all cylinders again. have already taken in for a number of issues, including crankshaft sensor issues(was losing power to driveline); brakes locking up (have replaced the rotors and pads six times and last time i replaced both calibers as well; front axles and bearings replaced. as well as, blinkers no longer work. when the first issues arose, problems have continued since, like i said have taken it in at least 6 times to a dealer and once to an independent mechanic. at first the problems were covered by warrenty, now they are not, there is only 99,000miles on the truck and has been in shop at least 6 times and is only 4 yrs old. not sure what to do, as the problems resemble recall issues, but dealership says they aren't part of any recalls. concerned for my safety on the road. the truck is now not driveable!!!

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. when the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to pick up speed and stalled. the contact had to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road and restart the vehicle. the second time the vehicle stalled while driving over 50 mph, and the oil indicator illuminated. the vehicle was unable to be restarted after coasting over to the side of the road. the vehicle was towed to a dealer (levittown ford, llc, 3195 hempstead turnpike, levittown, ny 11756, (866) 421-1288) who replaced the fuse and re-wired the fuse box per a tsb. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified and stated that they would follow up with a response within 48 hours. the contact wanted to know why a tsb had been issued and if the dealer stated this was a known issue, but there was no recall issued yet by the manufacturer. the approximate failure mileage was 19,600.

Made a turn at an intersection with my kids and my f150 ecoboost lost power. i thought we were gonna get hit. i have had my 2013 f150 into the local ford dealership 3 times for this issue. they tell me to drive it they are waiting for a new computer program from ford. engine lite has been on for a month or more. dealership keeps giving it back. waiting on program. vehicle i feel is not safe.

Battery drains down when off. this has happened multiple times. sometimes over night, sometimes over 2-3 days. changed battery and it drains down.

I excelerated from a stop, suddenly my check engine light started to flash and i started to lose power and acceleration. my vehicle then began to shudder, i let off the accelerator pedal and moved to the side of the road. after about a minute the engine light turned itself off and the full power came back to the truck.

As i am driving the 2013 ford f-150 raptor 6.2l the gears seem to be off, if i am driving only 30mph the gear is at 6. also the more dangerous and scary thing is that it shifts down without any warning, i was traveling about 35mph and the gear seem to shift down to 1 locking my rear tires and making me skid almost causing the vehicle behind me to run into me. the tires locked almost as if i put the brakes on. i'm glad i was only going 35mph but what if i'm going 80, this would be a more dangerous and scary scenario. it also happened when i turned on to a street and as i started to accelerate it dropped my gear to 1, locked my wheels and acted like it didn't want to shift or accelerate , i pulled off to the side of road, i sat there for a few minutes wondering what happened and went on my way nervous if it will happen again, which it didn't and made it home. next day i took to ford and they said they cant duplicate the issue so there is nothing we can do. this is scary , i don't fell safe with me and my son in this vehicle. what could be causing this dangerous situation? what is my next opposition to get this fixed. thank you

While driving the vehicle at normal speeds & operating the air conditioner blower motor on low speed, the driver of the vehicle noticed smoke coming from the below the dash board on the passenger side of the vehicle. as the smoke progressed, the driver soon observed flames and melting plastic dripping off of the hvac box. the driver immediately pulled over, opened the [passenger door and extinguished the flames with a 10 bac fire extinguisher. when the vehicle was brought into the mesa county fleet repair facility, we noticed the heat source originated from the blower motor and resistor area of the hvac box. the electrical wiring has melted insulation and no fuses appear to have burned.

My local ford dealership is charging me $2000 for a steering gear that the internal module went bad. from my research, this is a very common issue with the 2013 model and is a recall on the 2014 model. its an incredibly dangerous situation when it happens. you completely loose power steering and get 3 separate warnings on the dash. i came within inches of hitting another vehicle in a parking lot yesterday. problem is, its sporadic, you never know when its going to happen. i called ford and they, basically, told me its not a recall because there wasn't significant "injury or loss of life" from this issue....but, i guess there was on the 2014 and up models... this is outrageous!! this needs to become a recall immediately! hope you guys can look into this and, hopefully, save the lives that ford is needing in order to fix this issue. Starter system fault was working very nice and stop after, con you help me fix it please, thank you

Fuel pump fuse melted while on highway at approximately 60mph, causing sudden deceleration and loss of power. check engine light came on. i was able to barely get off the freeway to the shoulder. had to be towed to dealership. this is a dangerous design defect and the incident could easily have resulted in a bad accident.

This has happened more than once driving on the highway 65 mph automatic transmission suddenly shifts into first gear all lights on rear end squelling, completely no control over vehicle, dangerous, dangerous

At 36,100 mile i reported that the 1) rear window defroster worked intermittently. the problems have grown now to include 2) the digital temperature display is stuck at a constant 55'. 3) the front windshield defroster does not operate - at all. 4) the heater does not work - at all. items 2-4 all occurred within the last 2 weeks and remain defective as of 4/11/17

I have had rear window issues since i bought the truck. first was when the rear defrost/mirror defrost wasn't working. they replaced the window in 2014. second time was in april of 2017. we had a heavy frost and i couldn't see out the back window or the side mirrors, so i turned on the defrost. about ten minutes later i was driving down the highway and heard what sounded like a gunshot. i immediately started looking around thinking someone shot at me. i didn't realize right away due to the rear headrest covering a large portion of the window, that the drivers side stationary section of the back window had exploded. the glass stayed intact, however tiny slivers of glass fell onto my daughters car seat which was in front of this window. ford did replace the window, reluctantly and i paid an insurance deductible, even though the internet is full of people having the same problem. i recently went to turn on my rear defrost again, and found the same issue as the first problem, where the defrost wont work and the likely fix is replacing the rear window. this will be the fourth window in four years. is this something i should expect to do like oil changes and tires? this is ridiculous. the exploding window can really be an issue. someone may panic and think its a gunshot, and cause an accident or if someone was sitting there, they could get glass slivers on them. this appears to have been a known issue for years with these windows. why haven't they been forced to redesign it?

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 10 mph, the low oil pressure warning indicator illuminated. shortly after, the vehicle stalled. the contact restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred approximately four miles later. the contact took the vehicle to the d'orazio ford dealer where it was diagnosed that a switch associated with the ignition failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the contact stated that the failure recurred approximately four times while driving various speeds. the vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired a second time. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the vin was unknown. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

Rear window exploding after using defrost. after turning on rear window defroster, i heard a loud pop and found that the back window had shattered. after reading multiple instanes online of this happening, i beleive this should be a recall issue. ford is aware of the issue and wants to do nothing about it. if a child was seated in the seat when this happened, there would be pieces of glass all over them.

While driving down the highway, the vehicle flashed service advance trac, down hill descent control fault, trailer brake module fail and a couple more codes. all electonics in vehicle went blank, including all controls/gauges. before doing so, last code read, shift to park. almost caused me to have an accident, because the power steering went out and nearly pulled me into another vehicle. the acceleration is bad too, feels like it is not firing all cylinders again. have already taken in for a number of issues, including crankshaft sensor issues(was losing power to driveline); brakes locking up (have replaced the rotors and pads six times and last time i replaced both calibers as well; power steering has been replaced once before, front axles and bearings replaced. as well as, ac problems. when the first issues arose, i was told by service tech at dealership i needed a new engine, (later he completely denied telling me this) instead they fixed some things and gave it back to me. problems have continued since, like i said have taken it in at least 6 times to a dealer and once to an independent mechanic. at first the problems were covered by warrenty, now they are not, there is only 78,000miles on the truck and has been in shop at least 6 times and is only 4 yrs old. not sure what to do, as the problems resemble recall issues, but dealership says they aren't part of any recalls. concerned for my safety on the road.

Had the engine studded and drop a cylinder, this is an ecoboost motor, the check engine light started to flash while running rough.it happened as i was passing a tractor trailer on the highway,as i got around him another trailer was coming on behind me,this is when it dropped a cylinder, the trailer almost ran over me.this is a problem with this truck i found out once i did some research, ford needs to do something about this before someone gets hurt or killed.i called the dealer the first time this happened,as far as the studded and he said bad gas keep driving it(59,500 mls). it happened again at 61,381,took to dealer and they did a tsb 14-0017 reprogram, this worked for about a week then it happened again, took it to the dealer 61850mls,they couldn't get it to do it,i picked it up and 20 miles later it did it again,i got it on video this time so theres no questions, seems as though they know about it but are blowing it off, let me get outside warranty then take a look at it.let me tell you if it happens again, and my family gets hurt i will own ford !!!! thanks for you time.

Extreme loss of power when accelerating, and violent engine vibrations during the process, lasting for about one minute and then everything goes back to normal operations. this is extremely unsafe and dangerous given the situation.

Rear power windows with defrost option caused window to shatter when defrost was turned on. loud, almost gunshot noise can be heard when it happened. internet searches on the subject confirm it is not an isolated incident either.

While driving down the street at roughly 40 mph, my truck all of a sudden just shut off. lost power steering and power brakes. once off to the side of the road i tried to restart the vehicle with no luck. it continued to crank but would not start. after waiting roughly 10 minutes i tried to start it one more time and it started. i was able to get the truck home where i was able to start investigating the problem. while searching the internet, i found "tsb 15-0137" from ford as to the possible problem. to my amazement it was the exact same problem i had had. the fact that this is a known problem that causes the engine to shut down, a loss of power steering, and a loss of power brakes and it's not considered a recall, along with the fact that it could cause an electrical fire, is more than disturbing.

The rear driver side rear window defrost caused the window to shatter. the only thing holding it together is the anti shatter coating on the window. this is part of the sliding rear window but one of the fixed none moving glass. remote start was used and the temp was 24 deg f. the truck was in the driveway. called ford customer service and was given a case number.

Model year 2009-2014 f150's have an issue with fuse 27 under the hood getting hot and melting. fuse 27 is for the fuel pump relay. this causes complete loss of power while driving or a no start situation. ford has issued a tsb for this issue, but in my mind it should be a recall. if the fuel pump stops, you lose all power no matter where you are, even if in heavy traffic on the interstate. this could also be a fire hazard if the wiring gets hot enough

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. the vehicle restarted after one attempt, but the failure recurred several times. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the rubber boot needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 29,000.

2013 ford f-150. consumer writes in regards to defective water pump. *ld the consumer stated the water pump failed at 60,000 miles. the battery became low at 65,000. the guages were illuminated even the vehicle was off. after some research, the consumer discovered the failure was with the switch in the shifter. the vehicle was repaired. updated 11/15/2017*js

Radio stops working causing the hands free phone, clock, and everything on the microsoft sync control panel to stop working. first time the vehicle was moving. the second time it was stationary. dealer suggested disconnecting the battery to reset everything which worked for about a week then continues to do the same thing.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving and at a traffic light, the vehicle shut off and would not restart. the vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was determined that the fuse box needed to be re-located. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.

Remote started truck, warmed up approx. 10 min., entered truck, put in drive, moved approx. 50' from drive way, heard boom noise behind me, sounded like an aresol can blew up inside my tool box, discovered driver side rear window had exploded. i live in rural area with rock driveway, truck was level in a straight line. (12/18/2016). had same issue with 2010 f-150, right side rear window, contacted local dealership, ford ended up going 1/2 on repair. this time truck was traveling 70mph on interstate hwy. only common denominators i could say are, both happened on cold days, both in the 30"s,both appeared to be caused by heated window defrost, heat was on during both glass shatterings. no personal injuries either time. don't have date for this incident.

Just bought my truck and i auto started it with defrost set to auto. i got in and heard a loud pop only to see my window shattered. nothing hit it. took it to ford and they wont cover it. i got online and saw hundreds of complaints of the same thing happening to a lot of people. this should be a safety recall. what if my kids were in my truck!

Used remote start to warm vehicle and the 1/3 of the rear glass (the driver's side) exploded and spidered. research shows this is a common problem and likely due to faulty defroster. ford doesn't part out the glass so the entire rear window needs to be replaced at a cost of over $650. my vehicle is garaged when at home and is in excellent condition with only 51400 miles. since it is over 36000 miles, ford won't do anything or assist with costs.

Turned on rear window defroster and heard loud pop and back window had shattered. the vehicle was parked at the time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the instrumental panel caught on fire and flames emitted through the vents and melted the dash board on the front passenger side area. the contact sustained third degree burns to the right hand, the front seat passenger sustained smoke inhalation, and the rear passenger suffered emotional stress that all required medical attention. the vehicle was towed for further inspection. the manufacturer was not notified. the vin was not available. the fire department was present. the failure mileage was not available. updated 02/07/2017*ct *cn

3.5 v6 ecoboost fire. completely burned my truck to the ground with my family driving in, wife and 5 yr old. passenger suffered 3rd degree burns, 12/10/2016. truck was in motion, we smelt smoke and within 2 minutes the truck was completely engulfed.

Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while making a right turn at approximately 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated normally and suddenly stalled. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that a fuse melted inside the fuse box. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 42,564.

A critical 20 amp fuse that gives power to the fuel relay which powers the fuel pump blew rendering my vehicle in operable. it would not start at all. this is a known issue to ford motor company. they have a tsb also known as a technical service bulletin 15'0137. this "fix" merely relocates the fuse so that the known potential for failure does not melt the fuse housing. this does not solve the problem of why the fuse is blowing. this service is also not covered; as the dealer expects me to pay for the fix. the fuse housing on my truck is melted and chard from the failed fuse . to me this is a safety issue both for the potential of fire and losing propulsion due to the consequential loss of fuel to the engine .

My 2013 ford f-150 raptor has had two complete burned up master fuse boxes occur on my truck. the original one burned out and melted at 36k miles about a year ago. ford covered it under factory warranty. this second one has just burned up at 80k. same exact thing. there is a serious defect on this vehicle. this is also an issue with many 2013 model ford raptor f-150. accoring to online reports and various dealer comments. for safety purposes this is a severe enough and continual issue that a recall needs to be made. four people i know who have owned this truck between 2011-2013 have all had the same issue. vehicle will not start or operate when this issue occurs it's abnormal to have such and issue with a safety risk and the potential of the vehicle catching fire. it happens so often apparently there is a major back order on the fuse box replacement. last time i was told it would take 6months to get the part.

Started truck with remote(fob), yesterday morning. i needed to defrost my windows as well. on my way to work, twenty minutes later, i heard what sounded like a gun blast. i thought someone had shot my truck or threw a rock. i looked in my rearview window and the rear driver side window was shattered. i pulled into a parking lot and no signs of impact by a foreign object. the window was completely shattered. after researching this, i see that this seems to be a defective defroster contributing to spontaneous shattering of rear windows on the f150. i called the dealer and they're giving me "i've never heard of this" i'm not buying it. also, if this had happened today, my small child would have been sitting right there. this is not okay and ford should repair these for customers. *tr

During the start up of my 2013 ford f-150, i proceeded to utilize the rear defroster to get the ice off the rear window. the rear window is comprised of 3 panels of glass, one on each side and the sliding window in the center. last week, the rear defroster worked intermittently, after several attempts at depressing the button it would eventually turn on, not a week later it does not work at all. thinking it was possibly the fuse or a problem with the button itself, i searched online to find out if there was something i could do, and found that this is a common issue and requires replacement of the entire back glass and that some had this covered under warranty. i called the ford dealership and talked to the repair department and was told by the manager that he has the same vehicle and the same problem and that the only way to get the rear defrost to work is to replace the entire back glass and that the cost is around $2200. searching online on the f150 forum boards finds that this is a common problem and the fix is replacement of the entire backglass. because my vehicle has 50,000 miles and is past the 36,000 miles of the warranty it is not fords problem. as this is a safety issue (visibility through back glass) i searched on the governments recall website here and found similar complaints and that many have also experienced the windowing cracking, spidering and exploding when using ' which tells me do not turn on the rear defrost for fear of a broken window exploding while im driving. this is a safety hazard as it distorts and skews my vision and ability to see out of it safely until i can attempt to have ford rectify this issue. *tr
