We have classified the 196 complaints from 2013 Ford F-150 about ELECTRICAL SYSTEM into the following categories.
The battery will be drained overnight randomly. first time the truck was a year old. dealer replaced battery. over a year later, same thing. replaced battery. i replaced battery four months back and the truck has discharged the battery by the morning. completely dead battery. will charge fine and drive fine. no alternator issue. the radio / computer screen will display "battery saver" when the engine is turned off for no reason.
I regularly have my truck serviced . . today my engine light came on with no warning. it sent a message to put vehicle in park. it was towed to my home. it will not let me shift to drive with an uncontrollable vibration. it did almost the same thing when it was recalled. i have always paud my payments on time ... had it servuced accordingly. mt truck has given me more problems than i deserve. we were on tge main highway when this happened thank god no one was coming behind me it would have been a bad accident...help [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).' *pm
The rear window defroster keeps going out. this is the 3rd time the unit has failed on a 2013 truck. the unit also controls the heated mirrors. the fix is to remove and replace the rear window with the defrost unit.
2013 ford f150 raptor. been reading about several 2011 to 2016 about the rear back glass defrost not working due to bacd contacts on the window or even shaders for no reason. i think ford should replace this if it fails. with the back defrost not working also makes the side heated mirrors not work due to then being on the same circuit.
While driving, the steering seized up making the vehicle nearly impossible to control. multiple warning lights: "service advanced track, power steering, hill descent assist". dealer reports that epas system has gone bad/failed. i've read numerous reports on the steering/electric issue. this is a major safety concern and needs to be recalled. this truck is in immaculate shape and has 67,000 miles on it. steering should not be failing. please get a recall going on this before someone dies i also had a wheel stud/bolt sheer off two weeks back.
My 2013 f150s engine started missing out of no where and my check engine light started flickering, and then wouldn't accelerate as i was trying to get on the highway. it almost shut off. made it to the dealer and they are saying it's the coil packs, i had the same issue but not this bad with my 2008 f 150 which they ended up doing a recall on for the same issue. i think something needs changed as this seems to be an ongoing issue in these trucks and the fix isn't cheap or covered under warranty! and could cause an accident. also i wasn't having any issues with my truck till i took it to the dealer for the recall they had on the accelerator issue, which was only fixed 3 weeks ago.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. after raising the hood and looking in the fuse panel under the hood, the contact noticed that the fuel pump relay fuse showed signs of melting. the vehicle was taken to ford square of mt. vernon (1501 broadway st, mt vernon, il 62864, (618) 242-8600) where it was diagnosed that the fuse needed to be relocated. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 66,800. *ln*jb
My daughter rolled down the window, it made a strange noise and stopped. she tried to roll it down again and the window fell all the way into the door and would not come up again.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact noticed an abnormal odor when entering the vehicle. the dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 48,907.
I started my truck and the wrench light came on. the truck was in limp mode and would not accelerate. i restarted the truck and was able to pull it back in the driveway. i plugged in an obd code reader and it gave a p2112 "throttle actuator control system stuck closed." upon some research i found several models between 2011 through 2015 have had similar issues causing dangerous situations on the highway. the issue was moving when it first occurred, but thankfully it was just outside my driveway, i hadnt made it to the highway yet. i restarted the truck, and was able to park it in the driveway.
When entering onto the interstate i felt the truck was not getting up to speed. i then noticed on my dashboard a big wrench. i felt my truck continue to not gain speed even though i was stepping on the gas.the screen then went black and and when the dashboard came back on i had nothing showing. no mph ,fuel economy, etc and i was stuck in 5th gear.i could not increase speed but only decrease if i stepped on the break.i don't know how fast i was going but it was not fast at all since everyone was passing me(maybe 40 mph).i also noticed my airbag light was on. i had to pull over on the interstate and restart my truck.once i did that everything came back on and worked for the rest of the ride. i was recently part of a ford recall but had that fixed.i had the automatic downshifting happen to me 3 times before the first recall was in place. i just got a letter last week that they need to redo the recall, i had the downshifting happen to me and this was not it. this is a entirely different safety issue that is making me afraid to drive my own truck since most of my time is on the interstate. photos are attached of what was happening to me on the interstate.
Traveling 50 mph on a 4 lane road when engine shut off. had power to vehicle but no steering or brakes. i was able to get off the 4 lane highway successfully. the truck would turn over but not crank, after sitting 90 minutes, it cranked. took to ford dealership the next morning. they said it was the #27 fuse that controls the fuel pump. put a kit in to move the #27 fuse to an isolated location so it wouldn't get hot and malfunction. the cost was $250. i asked it there was a recall and they said no. i said someone is going to get killed because this is dangerous. the response was we have been getting a lot of these. i was lucky and was able to get off the road. the next person might not be as lucky. something needs to be done before someone is fatally injured.
I'm calling this a safety issue due to erratic unlocking of driver door. door when operated by remote to unlock, most times needs 2 actuations, of handle to actually open by user. my wife after shopping felt a presence and tried to enter our vehicle and was badly frightened when she could not enter immediately she pulled on handle without opening door and thought she had not actuated the remote correctly she preformed the action to unlock and had to pull door handle 2 times to enter and lock it to feel safe. he vehicle was stationary and i don't know if this fits the standard for a safety issue. it seemed like it at the time. dealer wants a diagnostic charge to remedy which i thought was unfair vehicle has 82,000 miles
I received notice of recall to schedule repair (software) upgrade. i contacted the dealer several times to only be told to keep calling back to see if they have received the software upgrade from ford. they said there is no problem with continuing to drive the truck until the problem is repaired.
I was driving on the freeway in the fast lane. suddenly the wrench warning light and check engine light came on, and the car experienced what appeared to be a total loss of engine power. i placed the hazard lights on and was able to navigate to the shoulder, with 18 wheelers and other cars trying to react to my sudden loss of power and speed. after turning the car off, and restarting it, it appears ok to proceed. this same incident has happened now 8 times in the last few days. i took the car into ford and they are claiming it's an issue with the throttle body. i mentioned that i see a throttle body recall for 2015-2016 f-150's, but ford is denying the issue, indicating there is no recall for my 2013. i find many complaints identical to mine for f-150's earlier than 2015. they also claim ford denies the issue and refuses to fix the problem. most also reference concern for a significant safety issue, feeling that ford will only fix this once people die. i took my f-150 to the local ford dealer today and they verified it was the throttle body, and are charging me $650 to fix it. i have read from others that the component used to fix the problem is the original faulty component, so there is no reason to feel that the problem will not happen again eventually. i have experienced four times on the freeway at 65mph, and several times on city streets at 30mph. i was driving straight, not braking.
I was on my way to work as a firefighter for my shift when with no warning my truck went from high gear straight down to first gear then to park causing sudden stop and a minor accident on i275 cincinnatti then coming home it instantly went into park on us route 50 causing my truck to go out of control and swerved over into the oncoming lane almost hitting someone head on then could not move the truck as it was stuck in park sitting sideways between both lanes i finally was able to get it to move again but it barely moved as it was in high gear stuck there. i was able to barely remove it from the road and had to have a tow truck retrieve it and bring it to my house this is a real safety issue that ford is not in a hurry to fix on a recall issue on the transmissions therefore leaving me without a truck or vehicle to drive almost had a serious crash twice now. plus my transmission is completely out of my truck now no movement for any loading etc.
While driving on major highway i lost power to my 2013 f150 6.2l. i had a tractor trailer on my right side and a jerk tailgating me. i finally managed to get the vehicle to the breakdown lane. i really thought i was going to be in a major accident.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle lost power and stalled. the vehicle was able to restart and the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was taken to girard ford (450 w thames st, norwich, ct 06360, (860) 889-2601) where it was diagnosed that the fuse was melted and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the contact stated that the vehicle was covered by nhtsa id number: 10074713/manufacturer communication number: 15-0137 (engine). the failure mileage was 66,287.
2013 ford f150. consumer writes in regards to defective key in ignition warning chime. *ld the consumer stated the ignition warning would not alert that they key was left in the ignition once the door has opened, while the engine was running. the consumer suggest an alert for drivers to remember to turn on headlights and to repeal right turn on red law. *js
My rear sliding window defrost stopped working and the indicator light did not come on. i drove the truck on a county road (55 mph) about 5 miles( 10 minutes) and i looked in the rearview mirror and saw smoke coming out from behind the passenger side headrest against the glass. a few seconds later i heard a loud pop and the right side rear window pane shattered. i was able to safely pull to the side of the road and i pulled the relay fuse for the window defrost. the glass stayed intact except for a few shards of glass that i found on the seat.
I received my ford recall notice on the need to reprogram power train module on or about april 1st 2019. my first instance of my 2013 f150 stx supercab, going into sudden downshift mode and then limp mode (blue wrench signal) occurred around april 12, 2019. i was driving at about 30 miles an hour on a city street when my truck when the truck downshifted by itself and the blue wrench light appeared. my truck went into limp mode and i was unable to drive. after pulling over to the side of the street, i turned off my truck, waited a few minutes and then the issue resolved itself. i took my vehicle into the ford dealership on april 18, 2019 where recall 19s07 6r80 (reprogram power train module) work was completed. on may 17, 2019, while driving about 30 miles an hour on a city street (without notice or cause) my truck again went into downshift mode, limp mode and the blue wrench light came on. same as the first instance, i pulled over to the side of the street, turned off my truck, waited a few minutes and when i turned on the truck again the issue was resolved. it was clear that this issue was electrical and no mechanical and the original recall work completed by the dealership did not resolve the issue. on 05/19/2019, i again took my truck to the ford dealership where this time the module lead frame was replaced after code p0722 was identified. i want the record to reflect that the first recall, reprogramming of the power train module did not work, and left me at risk of a second downshifting incident occurring. my truck had a second incident and after returning to the dealership a second time the leadframe was replaced. i also want to note that the dealership's data that the original recall work was completed on 04/26/2019 is inaccurate. the original recall work was performed by the dealership on 04/18/2019.
My truck failed to start, and when i investigated the issue i found fuse 27 (located in the battery junction box at the front of the engine bay) melted causing circuit for the fuel pump to open which left the truck without a functioning fuel system (fuse 27 is part of the circuit for the fuel pump). replacing the damaged fuse resolved the issue while a more robust solution is determined. if this had happened during operation the vehicle would have lost power, been unable to steer due to an electric assisted steering system and become a hazard for other vehicles while putting the occupants of the truck, and any vehicle that collides with it, at risk for injury or death. ford issued a technical service bulletin (tsb 15-0137), but this is not commonly known outside of vehicle-specific social media platforms on the internet (https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1449733-tsb-15-0137-fuel-pump-fuse.html). ford knows about the issue and the consequences are obvious. the fix ford recommends is inexpensive (under $30 in parts) and not very time consuming (0.6 flag hours).
Driving on major highway, 65-75 mph, lost engine power and had to pull over, trying not to cause a wreck, and stopped between busy highway and on-ramp to the highway. found that the engine had stalled and wouldn't restart. found #27 fuse melted. changed fuse and was able to restart engine. i don't like repairing ford's engineering mistakes, nor do i like being put in danger because of them. i use this truck for work and have a lifetime's accumulation of specialty tools kept in this truck for my job. if the truck goes up in flames, will ford replace what is lost? the way this fuse, fuse box, and the connection has failed looks as there can potentially be a fire. in my case, there was an interruption in normal traffic flow, at high speed, that could a resulted in a wreck, injury, death, etc. i will fix this, probably on my own dime. what i don't understand is why is this not required to be fixed by ford. it's an obvious safety hazard that even ford has acknowledged and provided a tsb to address the problem.
Ford f-150 recall: the vehicle was in motion while driving on the highway at 60-65 miles per hour, the rear tires locked momentarily then release as the vehicle slowed but never loss power. it was raining and the windshield wipers intermittently changed speeds...faster/slower/faster. the day before the speedometer stopped working while the vehicle was in motion. may all be related to the oss.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving, the service advance trac warning light intermittently illuminated. in addition, the contact stated that while attempting to drive, the steering wheel seized as the power steering and service advance trac warning lights illuminated. the vehicle was not able to drive. the contact stated that the vehicle would be towed to his residence. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 92,343.
The truck shifts into emergency mode while driving and i have to pull over and stop shut off vehicle and restart. while in idle the vehicle shakes. it is at the ford dealer in beatrice nebraska and they have stated that the electric throttle body needed replaced... 400$ repair. also, air conditioning compressor went out 1500.00 repair on a 2013 vehicle!
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while the vehicle was parked, the contact heard a clicking noise emerging from the fuse box inside the cabin. the vehicle lost all electrical capability and the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the failure occurred two other times. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
As reported by hundreds of other users, a faulty rear defroster has caused the rear windshield to spontaneously shattered and got pieces in the rear seat. luckily i was parked at my work parking lot, and there was no child in the backseat. there needs to be a recall or a fix for this. as well as reimbursement for my window.
Vehicle intermittently sputters when accelerating from a stop and also when the vehicle is in motion. i replaced the ignition coil and spark plug in cylinder 3. unfortunately, the intermittent sputter continues to be an issue as well as the check engine light being activated. accelerating in traffic and from a stop is dangerous and requires additional attention and driving techniques to prevent a potential rear end collision caused by a vehicle approaching my vehicle from the rear.
Fuse 27 melted, causing the vehicle to be inoperable. the truck was operating with no issues, but then would not start. the engine would turn over, but not fire. after lots of research, this appears to be a common problem with these vehicles. this happened on 3/23/2019 while we were out of town. thankfully we were able to get it started otherwise we would have been stranded several hours from home. it happened again on 3/24/2019. after about an hour, we were able to get it started again and immediately went to a service station. the fuse was completely melted. if this had happened while driving, the outcome could have been tragic.
Approximately two months ago i purchased a used 2013 ford f-150 from a local dealership in warren, michigan. recently i received a notice in the mail detailing a recall regarding vehicles equipped with a 6r80 transmission ' sudden downshift (safety recall 19s07). after receiving my powertrain control module software update approximately two weeks ago from szott ford in holly, michigan, i expected my transmission to run smoothly. six days ago, while pulling through a busy intersection, my vehicle would not leave first gear. somehow, i avoided being hit from crossing traffic. shortly after avoiding an accident, the vehicle then switched abruptly from first gear to fifth gear (going around 10 mph). after pulling into a parking lot i turned the car off. when i restarted the car, it started in fifth gear. the car would not go into manual and would not leave fifth gear. at no point during this time did an engine light come on. after switching the car into four-wheel drive everything seemed to be working smoothly again. i immediately took my car into the dealership once again. the dealership has informed me that everything is working properly and since no engine light came on there are no problems to diagnose or fix. safety recall 19s07 did not fix this vehicles issues. last night the same thing happened again. it would not leave 1st gear. i put the car in park and the car would sit in second gear then jump to 5th gear. very dangerous pulling out in front of anything because the car basically stalls in oncoming traffic. safety recall 19s07 did not work.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while operating the vehicle, the engine suddenly shut off and was difficult to restart. upon inspection, it was discovered that the 20 amp fuse #27 had burned and was melted. franklin ford (175 east central st, franklin, ma) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 106,300.
Sitting in my driveway before i left so the truck was stationary and turned on my rear window defrost and heard a load bang, noticed the passenger rear panel of my sliding rear window window shattered.
The vehicle down shifts from 4th or 5th gear to 1st gear, while in motion traveling on highway causing engine to rev very high, wheels skid, and unexpected lose of speed. check engine and mechanical light come on. the shift caused a dangerous situation in heavy traffic.
I used the remote starter in the morning to warm up my truck. as i entered the driver side door and sat down i heard a loud pop almost like a small gun fired. shortly after i could hear the crunching of the rest of my back window shattering. i could also smell smoke inside the vehicle. after checking on line it seems this is a common issue with the rear de-froster.
Ford f150 supercrew 5.0 v8 6 speed auto transmission. erratic shifting while driving. sometimes will stay in 5th gear at a stop wont shift down, sometimes when pulling out in 1st gear will not shift up. bounces back and forth between 1st gear and third or 5th while driving. shutting off vehicle and restarting sometimes solves issue but becoming more frequent, recall for reprogramming speed output sensor was performed with no resolution. appears to be the lead frame module issue that was recalled in 2011-2012 ford f150 but not recalled or extended warranty on 2013 models. very very dangerous, cannot drive this vehicle!
Vehicle stalls randomly while driving, no matter if it's on the highway or city streets. this is dangerous. it has been to the dealer 4 times. it's there now and they are unable to figure it out. ford is aware of this problem and recalled the 2011 and 2012 and some 2013s. but not mine. this vehicle needs to be recalled. it's an accident waiting to happen. it left me stranded it rural colorado in a snow storm in 7 degree weather with my daughter. i did restart but that would have been really bad had it not.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. while driving approximately 50 mph, the transmission erroneously downshifted, the check engine indicator illuminated, and the speedometer was inoperable. the vehicle was taken to shults ford harmarville (1300 gulf lab rd, pittsburgh, pa), but the cause of the failures was not determined. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 83,000. the vin was invalid..*bf consumer stated odometer quits working, speedometer stops working, will not work in manual gear, airbag lights come on, there is no power on the hill to get to the top. when the ignition is turned off and key is taken out hit lock buttons restart. vehicle starts working as if nothing is wrong. vehicle is erratic. manufacturer is reviewing the case. ?parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).? *jb
Takata recall. i put my truck in drive and as soon as i get over 2-5 mph it shifts from 1st gear to 3rd. when this happens i loss the speedometer and my turn signals will not turn off. check engine light comes on with a big wrench in the center of my gauges. will not down shift below 3rd and will not go into 6th. also the odometer, mpg, and trips all go blank.code p0720. output speed sensor circuit. i'm told by ford and a transmission shop that it's in the transmission! truck just hit 69147 miles and i haven't owned it three weeks yet.
This morning at about 5:30 am i left to go to the gym and had no problems with my truck. i get home about 7:00 am grab my stuff out of the back and no problems with my truck. before leaving for work about a half hour later i auto started the truck. i get to the truck to leave for work and i notice my driver side rear window is completely shattered! i did a little research and come to find that this is a reoccurring problem with ford. either there is a defect with the window or with rear defrost getting to hot or staying on to long. there were little bits of glass on the seat, what if someone was sitting in the back and the whole window shatters? this is not safe and needs to be fixed!
While in motion (60mph) going down a highway, the truck shifts from 6th gear to 1st gear without warning.
Rear defrost and defrost light won't come on. upon further research problem will explode the rear window. only way to solve rear defrost problem is to replace whole rear window.
It was about 20 degrees out and i drove to work with my front and rear defrosters on. after i backed into my parking spot i heard a very loud pop or bang. startled me. i got out and couldn't see anything wrong although it was still dark out. when driving home, i noticed the drivers side portion of the rear power sliding window was shattered. i'm pissed! called the dealer and was told to bring it in for an estimate. was told it's not covered and my warranty is expired anyway. come to find out it's a common problem. obvious safety issue here.
Truck would not start. ford dealer found burnt fuse causing fuel pump failure
We have had the back door lock freeze and cannot unlock back doors. we are replacing passenger back door lock for second time and have replaced driver side back door lock once. this is very dangerous as doors cannot be opened from inside and if in accident it could cause a death. there needs to be an investigation into this matter. three times replacing locks is too much!
Ford f-150 prower steering assist failed resulting in a near death experience. making a left in alameda on to high st. string failed and i slammed on my brakes to avoid going on to the curb. i was stuck in oncoming traffic while cars swerved around me.
Truck suddenly drops from 6th gear to 1 st gear and barks the rear tires while traveling at 60mph also the instrument panel goes completely out except for the rpm gauge it also down shifts from 6th to 5th and then will not upshift and only down shifts to 3rd gear also it has stuck in 1st gear when taking iff from a red light. it has done everything while traveling down the highway except for the 1st gear issue that happened from a stoped position when i started to take off. problem does happen all the time and when you pull over and place the vehicle in park and turn the engine off and restart the engine the problem goes away and then it starts it again took the truck to local dealership and was told it would cost 985.00 to fix this problem when it is the same problem that was recalled on the previous years truck same problem on the 2011 and 2012 also have read the problem is still accouring on the 2014 models as well
While driving the vehicle it will downshift from higher gears and then no longer shifts or registers speed - wrench light will illuminate on dash. the speedometer will also drop down to zero and no longer register any speed even though the truck is moving. the digital display will display dashes and the air bag light indicator will stay lite. when you unbuckle the seat belt the indicator light will not illuminate. took it in to have battery tested and had 100% charge but reading indicated a bad battery so had it replaced but issue still presented itself an hour later. issue occurs intermittently and without warning. took it to mechanic and they had it for two days and unable to replicate situation. also took it to dealer and was told they couldn't do anything if the issue never presented itself while they had the truck. asked if issue was ever presented at that facility or any known issues and was told no. issue has occurred on four separate occasions over the last 20 days.
Thursday morning 12-6-18 it was about 0 degrees fahrenheit i started my truck and turned on the rear window / mirror defroster. i was about 2 miles from the house when i heard a bang coming from my back seat area on the drivers side it was loud enough that it made me jump. at the time i could not figure out what it was but my rear defroster would no longer work. i messed around with it a few times but it would not light the dash light. later on as the sun was shining just right i noticed the drivers side of my back window was shattered. at that point it all became clear to me what the noise was and where it had come from. f150 back glass shattered with rear defroster on.
Tl* the contact owns a 2013 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. the vehicle was towed to ed kenley ford (877-841-1691, located at 1888 n main st, layton, ut 84041) where it was diagnosed that fuse 27 in the fuse box was too small and needed to be relocated. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was approximately 81,000.
