We have classified the 144 complaints from 2011 Ford F-150 about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
Went on a 350 mile trip, i was at a stop light and when i went to accelerate the truck lost all power. i have one of the ecoboost engines. the engine did fix itself and i continued with no other problem, this is the first time i experienced this problem. 2011 ford f150 king ranch. *tr
While traveling a two lane hwy, on rt 81 from tennessee to virginia in the early hours of the morning , we were pulling our 24 foot camping trailer, we were behind a tt unit and there was a tt unit behind us , we were all attempting to pass a slower mv in the right hand lane, when i tried to accelerate the truck shuddered and the engine completely went limp, the engine light came on and we were barley able to make it to the side of the road, and prevent an accident ,. when we did get to the side of the road the engine light continued to flash and the truck was not running.. *tr
When mild-accelerating to get to the highway speed limit of 75 my ford f150 ecoboost started shaking at 55 mph and at 2,500 rpm my truck starts shaking and was unable to control. i had to exit the highway and drive at a lower speed i figured it was another engine misfire that i had replaced recently on 8/2/13. i then proceed to try again on the freeway and at 55pmh it again started to shake and rattle cause me to drive on the feeder road for the remainder of my trip to work. *tr
Engine misses at times of hard acceleration. engine ecoboost. *tr
This truck has a very bad habit of loosing power and throttle response after driving for extended periods in heavy rain/high humidity. this problem occurred the second day i owned this truck (original owner) and has happened several more times over the past 2 years. the most recent time it occurred i was merging onto the highway and the truck started to shake and lost all power, i ran out of room to merge and had to steer to the right of a vehicle that was in the break down lane...i had nowhere to go! my dealer has attempted the service bulletin to correct this condition but to no avail. 3.5l ecoboost is a hazard to operate under the above listed condition not only to myself but other people on the highway! *tr
On several occasions and more frequently as of lately, i am losing acceleration capability when i am trying to accelerate at any speed. when i try to accelerate from a stop or uphill, i feel like the engine won't go or is bogging down. to try and compensate, i try to accelerate more which only seems to make the problem worse. i have already taken it to the ford dealer and they replaced a part on the transmission, but the problem still persists and is only get more frequent. *jb
While traveling to florida with family on vacation just coming out of mountains of tennessee went to pass a 18 wheeler hit gas was going 60 truck started shaking slowing down had traffic behind no cel light or any other warning light on let off gas three times before i could accelerate normal again then happened again in florida on i 75 on ramp had to let off two times before could accelerate. *tr
We were traveling on a two lane road. we were following a slow moving tractor trailer. we had been traveling for about 3 hours. it had rained earlier and was humid. i accelerated to pass and was partially around the truck when the engine of my truck started misfiring and lost power. luckily, i was able to limp it along and get back into my lane before having a problem with oncoming traffic. the motor in my truck is the 3.5 liter ecoboost. i have seen reports of this happening to this motor, but this is the first time it happened so dramatically to mine. i don't recall having traveled for any distance in these conditions with this truck. the truck is scheduled to have this problem looked at. it was explained to me that there are different repairs depending on how the truck is equipped. this was a very dangerous event and i believe this should have been taken care of before the incident happened. i have read of a possible recall of the trucks with these motors to rectify the problem. it is evident to me that this needs to be done before someone isn't as lucky as we were. *tr
Spring of 2012 acceleration failed when overtaking a slower vehicle. my speed was about 60 mph. this happened on more than one occasion. 06/10/13. vehicle engine began missing and vibrating when accelerating at any speed. i was driving about 45 mph. have sent the pickup to the dealer for inspection/repair. *tr
While attempting to accelerate back to highway speeds after slowing down for a car leaving the highway, my truck lost power and started to shutter. the engine light was flashing and i was unable to maintain highway speeds. i exited the highway and after about 2-3 minutes i was able to accelerate normally. conditions were wet and the temperature was around 70f. *tr
I was driving down my street and braked to pull into my driveway, after in my driveway i touched the accelerator (to get up the slight grade) and my truck went wide open throttle!! i mashed on the brake but the truck continued to accelerate uncontrollably and crashed into my brick home. even after impact and me continuing to apply full brake it was still wide open throttle and burning out. i finally came to my senses and shut the ignition off and the stopped it. i had the truck towed to my local dealer as recommended by ford customer care rep. the dealership ran a diagnostics check and found nothing as well as tried to get it to duplicate the problem with no luck. i had a state trooper certified in downloading event recorder data do such to my truck. the data shows exactly what happened..but does not differentiate between the accelerator being pushed vs.the accelerator position as indicated. however, it does show service brake applied and continual acceleration at the same time which i can prove was not done by me! i have pictures of abrasions to my right shin and knee from the steering column and dash..my right foot was fully applied on the brake pedal causing the abrasions at impact due to being directly in line with the steering column. my left leg had zero abrasions...since to the left of the steering column. if i was to be responsible for the data shown in the down load i would of had to have my left foot on the brake and thus sustaining abrasions to that leg. it is also impossible to use the right foot to brake and accelerate simultaneously to achieve the acceleration indicated...ones leg has to be cocked to the side and out of line of the steering column. everything on my pickup is oem....including the floor mats...which contrary to some beliefs that could be the cause. my truck has sat at the dealership untouched since they looked at it. *tr
Accelerating onto interstate from on ramp, sudden loss of power, vehicle shuddered, lost power and speed. vehicles around me on interstate had to swerve to avoid hitting truck. truck gradually regained speed over next 1/4 to 1/2 mile. approximately 24 hours and 400 miles later the check engine light came on. *tr
Vehicle shut off going up hill weather cold and damp took truck to dealer on 5/20/13 found nothing wrong . on 5/25/13 vehicle shut off 11 times while accelerating. drove vehicle on mon may 27 shut off 9 times and we were nearly run over by semi on interstate. engine light came on on tuesday may 28 drove to dealer with vehicle shutting off over 10 times. vehicle is a liability as well as a safety hazard for driver as well as other drivers. *tr
Traveling on i 20 during heavy rain , got off interstate to refuel and after reentering interstate accelerated to get back to highway speed and truck stalled went to shaking real bad and engine light came on. would not accelerate just shook real bad and i pulled over turned it off for a few minutes and restarted and continued on. no more issues once the rain stopped. *tr
When i'm accelerating the engine stalls, i may be leaving a stop sign climbing over an overpass or passing another slower vehicle. seems to happen more often about 40mph to 70mph. *tr
When getting on the highway with pedal all the way down start to get shutter at 4100 rpm through 2nd gear and then when it is in 3rd gear at the same rpm it will shutter even worse and then sometimes the check engine light will come on and start blinking for up to a min and then the truck will not move at all. *tr
Under hard acceleration on the highway, the engine began to cut out and misfire, then the check engine light began to flash. i took the vehicle to the dealership and they said the innercooler had failed and needed to be replaced. now, at roughly 55,000 miles it has begun to do it again, i had noticed it some before, but now it is worse. i took my 2011 f150 with the ecoboost to the dealership again and they said a tsb had been written and they changed the replaced the lower air deflector. this actually made the problem worse. at wide open throttle from a stop to about 80 mph, every gear will cut out and sometimes put the engine into a protection mode beginning around 4,000 rpm. if it shakes and shudders made enough the check engine light will flash, and now it has come on and stayed on. it has been very dangerous if i pull out to make a pass and then the engine shuts down and i can no longer accelerate. this has happened dozens of times, and has been addressed twice now by the dealership without any fix. *tr
My 2011 ecoboost f150 would sputter, shake and chug as i do a hard acceleration entering a highway or pass a vehicle. 4 times i have had my truck for service with the last 12 months for the same exact problem. my engine light will flash several times and then it will stay on till i take the vehicle in for service. 2 times the dealer has told me the problem is a turbo cooler issue and want to charge me $200 for some cheap lick and stick plastic air deflector. the other 2 times they have said i have a bad distribution wire and plug. first was on cylinder 3 and second time on cylinder 1. every time this has happened on a hard acceleration, its been during heavy traffic and i have had to pull of the road to avoid an accident. i have to now be very cautious when accelerating as i feel this truck is an accident waiting to happen. i hope someone can get this recalled as i know there is a lot of these trucks out there with the same problem. *tr
When attempting to pass a slower moving vehicle, i moved into the left pass lane and pushed on the gas, the truck began to shudder violently, lose power, and the check engine light came on. i took it to the dealership where i bought it and they did the intercooler fix. after that the problem continued. check engine light came on, took back to dealership, they told me it was a spark plug, replaced it, on the drive home same problem, engine shudders violently, loses power, goes into limp mode, and check engine light either flashes or goes solid. i have had this problem since the day i purchased the truck new from the dealer. *tr
2011 ford f150 ecoboost - purchased july 2011. when accelerating to pass traffic or merge into traffic. the vehicle shudders and shakes violently losing all power, the check engine light flashes the goes to solid. this was taken back to ford dealership mechanics in florida and kansas 3 times now with no fix action in place. during a road trip in july 2013, (after a trip to ford) we couldn't use the cruise control due to traveling over hills would cause the vehicle to lose power constantly to the point where some hills were almost impossible to drive over, vehicles behind me were honking and complaining as it barely made it up hills. *tr
We were merging onto the highway outside of st. louis mo and when the accelerator was fully depressed the engine started to misfire and power was reduced. a blinking cel was displaying on the dashboard. it seemed as though the turbo system was not adding any extra charge to the ambient air. there was a pronounced vibration to the vehicle that seemed to originate from the engine/drive train. luckily there as not a lot of traffic at the time and our poor acceleration did not result in an accident. my solution was to manually select the gears and drive at much higher rpm. this smoothed the misfire and we had an adequate amount of power to keep up with traffic. after about 10 minutes everything smoothed out and the misfire was gone. truck behavior returned to normal. the weather that day was a pleasant 60 degrees and sunny. the previous day we drove from central ohio to st. louis through much rain and fog. since we were on vacation and away from home we did not take the truck to a dealer to be serviced. the problem has not occurred since then. there was one previous occurrence at a previous date. i don't know exactly when it was. we were traveling home to vt from ohio. we had been driving for many hours, mostly on highway/cruise control driving. we had just gotten off the interstate highway and were on state highway. i went to pass a slower vehicle in my lane and upon depressing the accelerator the engine seemed to misfire (rpm went up but power delivery fell flat). i stepped off the gas pedal and slowly pressed a second time and this time the truck responded as expected. there was no cel this time. each of these incidents occurred with my entire family in the vehicle. we were not very happy about it and did not feel safe at the time. *tr
The motor stumbles when passing people on the highways or at any type of strong acceleration. this problem has been ongoing and there are records at the seekins ford dealership here in fairbanks, alaska. i have brought it in more than once, but they have failed to fix the problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while descending a steep grade, the rpms greatly increased and the vehicle erroneously accelerated. the contact also stated that the engine hold back disengaged. once the rpms decreased, the engine hold back engaged and the vehicle decelerated. the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the transmission fluid was low but the vehicle was operating as designed. the failure recurred again and was taken to the dealer, who referred the contact to the manufacturer. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 15,500 and the current mileage was 18,000....updated 02-07-13 *bf updated 02/13/2013*js
Yesterday i went to pass a truck that made an illegal turn, and had to hit the gas hard to get out of the way, only did it for about 2 seconds, than when i let off the gas, the engine kept running at high speed for about another 3 seconds? and my foot was not on the pedal at that time. *tr
Vehicle began shuddering heavy between 40mph and 50mph. requiring me to depress the gas pedal heavy to avoid the shuddering, its almost impossible to drive my vehicle at 45 mph (which is the speed limit in most of the area i drive in). this occurrence is when 5th gear changing to 6th gear, which is typical between 45 mph. not sure what damage this is doing to my vehicle, let alone the safety risk this may be causing. i have had the vehicle in the dealership at lease 6 times for this issue and with no results of the issue being resolved. just the run around and false promises. 2011 f150 5.0 motor and 3.55 gear ratio. *tr
Ecoboost engine stutters when accelerating. can not pass or continue driving. *tr
After 4 hours of steady highway driving upon attempting to pass a vehicle the truck failed to downshift , lost power ( requiring me to abort maneuver) and began bucking... there was no cel. took the car to the dealer and they inspected the truck found no codes and said no problem found. they said they reloaded the programming for the transmission. this vehicle has experienced this problem numerous times since the first occurrence. always happens when accelerating and creates dangerous loss of power at critical driving periods. *tr
During rain storm or high humidity driving conditions, while at a steady speed for a few minutes, i apply the gas pedal to pass or merge, my truck stutters and loss of engine power occurs. when this happened it caused truck to slow down to unsafe speeds rapidly while on highway, causing me to steer to the side of the road to avoid a crash. the truck is still on when this happens but accelerator peddle is useless until vehicle is stopped, after a few moments it will work again. this happened multiple times and on multiple dates. one particular trip from pennsylvania to florida and back, this above condition happened no less than 15 times. had my truck in for multiple services and nothing, but a code for misfire i believe the tech said. had all tsb's done as of august 2013. my truck is averaging very bad gas mileage between 8.5 mpg to 12mpg. my truck also stutters while in reverse while backing out of my driveway on cold days. *tr
Loss of power during acceleration with ecoboost engine. i have been complaining to the ford dealerships about this since right after i bought the truck. thank you for putting this problem in the media as i am now hopeful for a resolution. i called the ford dealership this morning and they said they knew nothing about it and to contact ford. here we go again with no one in ford service departments wanting to acknowledge and resolve the problem....... *tr
Truck started to shake violently when accelerating. felt as if the wheels were loose or the u joint for the drive shaft was going bad. had to let off the gas. has been ongoing from the time i purchased the vehicle to present time. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while at a stop and upon acceleration, the vehicle jerked. in addition, the vehicle failed to properly shift gears. the vehicle was taken to 4 different dealers (dealer 1: bedford ford lincoln, inc., 6985 lincoln hwy, bedford, pa 15522, dealer 2: chapman ford sales, 5201 main st, east petersburg, pa 17520, dealer 3: world ford pensacola, 6397 pensacola blvd, pensacola, fl 32505, dealer 4: autonation ford fort lauderdale, fl 33304), who failed to provide a solution. the vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v248000 (power train), 12v190000 (power train) and 11v582000 (power train). the manufacturer was notified of the failure and failed to provide a solution. the failure mileage was not available.
While merging into traffic the engine began to loose power and misfire. the vehicle entered "limp home" mode, noted by a flashing check engine light. the vehicle was taken to the ford dealership and simply had the error codes cleared. similar incident occurred few months later and the vehicle underwent recommended repair/upgrade per ford tsb including intercooler cover and reflash of computer. for past week vehicle has had persistent power loss and "shuttering" during acceleration. this not only limits the drivability of the vehicle, it also endangers the occupants when attempting to merge with traffic and crossing intersections. the dealership is aware of the problem, however there seems to be no effort to find a "complete and lasting" solution. *tr
2011 ford f 150 with eco boost. when i accelerate the vehicle stalls out, bogs down, looses power and shutters. i have taken in the shop several times and they could not fix it. i recently took it back in and hey changed the spark plugs which helped a little however still really rough. i am thinking of filing. lawsuit against ford. i have tied to trade out of the vehicle and i'm upside down because of bad publicity i'm being told. i thought i had. lemon but i guess it's all the engines. *tr
F150 ecoboost while going down a slight grade at about 50 mph in drive the transmission suddenly shifted down a couple of gears thereby causing the engine to rev up to over 3,500 rpm. after several seconds the transmission shifted back up one step at a time to the 6th gear. this has happened at least twice on different occasions. another anomaly has occurred several times. while slowing down slightly the transmission suddenly 'clunks' and it feels like something has run into the back of the truck. it's like a hard shift into a higher gear, however the transmission appears to be 6th and the speed is around 60 mph.. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 70 mph, he depressed the accelerator pedal and the vehicle stalled without warning. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who was unable to duplicate the failure. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 5,536 and the current mileage was 11,800.
Vehicle experienced hesitation when trying to accelerate. vehicle experiences jerkiness and at times complete power loss when trying to accelerate. vehicle lurches and hesitates when trying to maintain speed going up hills, or when trying to accelerate like when passing a car or on an interstate on ramp. issues have been reported to ford numerous times over past 2yrs, several various excuses provided and an occasional 'attempt' at fixing, with no remedy. most recent event (sep 2013) involved a near crash due to vehicle rapidly losing power in busy traffic. other incidents in the past have included stalling in the middle of an intersection when trying to accelerate from a full stop and nearly losing control when pulling a boat/trailer and the vehicle began to lurch/jerk when going up hills. *tr
Since new, this vehicle has had an issue with a loss of power when accelerating hard. the latest incident, this past october, occurred at approximately 80000 miles. plugs were bad prematurely and found that it was caused by water build up in a cac for the turbo chargers and there was a tsb. i was passing a car and lost power almost creating an accident. this time, fortunately, a light stayed on so they could diagnose the issue. the dealer did an update per the tsb but ford refused to pay for the update due to the miles even though this issue has occurred numerous times before the warranty had expired. i am disappointed that the nhtsa did not make the recall mandatory in their previous investigation as i believe water being injected into an engine causing a power loss at a time power is called upon is dangerous. *tr
Vehicle stalls out like it is starving for fuel when you need to accelerate. it has stalled out when passing other vehicles and when entering heavy traffic on interstates. as of july 31, 2014, the truck has been back to the dealership at least 4 times for this problem. however, i continue to have the problem. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, he attempted to accelerate and the vehicle decelerated to 10-15 mph. the contact stated that the vehicle performed as if the engine was not receiving enough fuel. the vehicle slowly began to accelerate up to speed. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, however no failure codes were found. the manufacturer was notified and they offered no assistance. the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 3,000 and the current mileage was 41,000.
While entering a highway via an on-ramp doing about approximately 45 miles per hour i attempted hard acceleration to pick up speed and merge in to traffic that was doing approximately 65-70 miles per hour. when i depressed the throttle the vehicle did not accelerate, but it started to hesitate and shake. the check engine light came on and the vehicle would not go over 40 miles per hour. this almost caused an accident situation as i expected the vehicle to accelerate when it did not. i was then forced to pull over to the shoulder and shut the vehicle off. after restarting the vehicle the cel had cleared and the vehicle was operating normally. no code was stored in the pcm to indicate what the issue was. this happened several more times since the first incident. once while towing a 4000lb boat/trailer which also almost caused a severe accident. ford has found nothing wrong with the vehicle and concludes there is nothing they can do since no codes were stored. i will note that after receiving tsb 12-2-10 the vehicle will still exhibit the same symptoms described above, but now the check engine light does not come on. vehicle will stall, go in to "limp mode" with no indication that anything is wrong. only resolution is to turn the vehicle off and back on to clear the status. this creates dangerous situations when on a highway. completely unacceptable. *tt
While merging onto the highway, the truck shuddered violently and slowed to about 10 mph . i released the throttle and gently reapplied it and it ran fine. i took it to dealer and they couldn't replicate it. the event has happened since, but check engine light doesn't stay on , so ford unwilling to do anything about it. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated whenever it is wet or damp weather the vehicles speed and acceleration decreased. the failure occurred at least eight times. the dealer did not give a reason for the failure, but stated that this was a known issue. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 3,000. the current mileage was 71,000. *tr
Driving on new years day, i was traveling and needed to accelerate onto an expressway. as i pressed on the throttle pedal my ford f150 2011 seemed to lose power for a second or two before regaining power again. this was the first time i can recall, but it happens each time i press the throttle all the way down for acceleration. i have learned that my f150 is not reliable enough to attempt to pull out unless traffic is completely cleared, or i have several car lengths of distance. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle decelerated and began to vibrate. the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road where the engine was turned off. upon restarting, the vehicle resumed normally. the failure recurred twice. in addition, the vehicle would only accelerate at low speeds even though pressure was applied to the accelerator pedal. the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnosis. the technician reprogrammed the computer system and installed a heat shield. in addition, there was a build up of moisture in the intercooler. the failure persisted after the repairs. the dealer was unable to provide a remedy. the manufacturer was notified of the problem. the approximate failure mileage was 500.
Sometimes when i try to pass the engine during full acceleration stumbles and looses acceleration. it does not happen all the time and does not give an error code in the computer. very dangerous on two lane road passing. *tr
