We have classified the 144 complaints from 2011 Ford F-150 about VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL into the following categories.
While driving down the highway about 55 mph the vehicle will down shift and the odometer will die and drop to zero, most of the indicators will have dashes instead of numbers. the truck will automatically slow down causing me to have to pull off the road to avoid an accident. i then have to turn the vehicle off and remove the key from ignition and restart the vehicle up again to reset all the gauges. this normally happens within the first 10 miles of driving the vehicle. this would only happen on a few occasions now it is happening more frequently. there was a recall issued around the 1st of july 2016 but i was told the software fix would not be ready until the 3 quarter of the year. ford now wants to charge me $131.00 to diagnose the problem. i should not have to pay for it to be diagnosed if they already have a recall. i wonder how many lives will be in danger until the 3rd quarter update is available.
Truck will have severe intermittent stumble/misfiring on acceleration from 45mph+ in humid, wet or damp conditions. the vehicle shudders violently, bogs down, and check engine light flashes eventually becoming a solid engine light. this involves the engine shuddering when there is acceleration at highway speeds; this is very dangerous when trying to pass vehicles at highway speeds. have my spark plugs and coils replaced after the following happened in damp and wet weather conditions. make years seem to involve 2011-14 ecoboost trucks. from thousands of ford forum posts, the trucks have an intercooler condensation problem that is causing poor performance and spark plugs/coils to fail early. water and oil vapor/residue condensation is being sucked into the engine. people have had to take it upon themselves to find a solution by drilling a 1/16' hole in the low point of the intercooler driver's side to drain oil/water condensation/residue or install a $400-$500 oil catch can separator which ford should be offering to owners with this problem. ford should own this problem and issue an appropriate fix like the oil catch can installation or confirm with its owners that it is ok to drill a weep hole in the intercooler. not the cheap fixes i have seen like tsb 13-8-1.
Attempting to accelerate to pass a slower vehicle on the highway. truck began shuddering and immediately decelerated to 50mph. would not respond for approximately 75 yards, then would not accelerate over 60mph. two vehicles (one of those vehicles was a tractor-trailer) following had to take evasive action to avoid rear-end collision. exited the highway, put the vehicle in park. no warning lights were engaged. weather was sunny and warm. now vehicle is shifting very hard with a delayed engagement between 55-60mph. *tr
4 months ago i was driving on the highway and my truck went into limp mode, when i pulled over it was shaking violently with a check engine wrench on the instrument cluster. i shut it down and restarted it a few min later and it was back to normal. it was about 1 hour into my trip and around 32 - 35 degrees out, the roads were wet from snow fall. my wife and i own a home in nh so i travel two hours there and home every weekend. i haven't experienced the limp mode again but every time its wet and cold my truck will stall on acceleration, when at a light, and when on the highway the truck will stop accelerating when i try to give it gas. again, the only common factor when this happens is the temp and moisture in the air, weather its raining, snowing, or the roads are wet. it will happen almost consistently at the 1.5 hour mark of driving. i've been to the dealer about the issue and they keep saying that the computer isn't showing any troubles, but this is getting aggravating. i have the 6.2 v8 so it our issues we are all having has nothing to do with the ecoboost engine. they need to start looking into something that both engines have in common. *tr
I lose power when trying to pass a vehicle and the motor seem to shutdown and shakes. *tr
Lost power during acceleration, engine light came on instrument cluster. truck had a severe miss. drove about 20 miles in 5th gear and engine cleared up and light went off. truck then missed during accelerations all the way home. *tr
Going up highway @ 55mph. pulled around a vehicle to pass. once, i was in the oncoming traffic the engine suddenly lost power, chugged, and was stumbling over itself. i then got back behind the vehicle i was passing. the 4 passengers and i were all quiet and then freaked out. after a while we pulled out and accelerated to go up road again, truck dogged out. we had no clue what was happening, but everyone was freaked out. we called birthday party destination to tell them we have vehicle trouble and can't make it. drove it down hill all the while worried the engine was going to blow. drove it directly to dealership who stated they had no clue and did not want us to leave it there. said set up appt. 7-10 days out. parked it until appt. then they replaced all spark plugs. we also have had troubles with the braking. where it suddenly takes extra effort and requires the driver to press hard on the brakes to get it to slow down. when we've driven it to ford for repair they throw their hands up, act frustrated, like they do not have any clue as to what the problems are. we were hesitant to renew our state tags as it sits parked most of the time, since it chugged on level surface with no rain present, and the mechanics light came on. we feel scared driving it and it has remained parked for 3+ weeks. this is our newest vehicle, which looks new and yet we can't drive it. we're not made out of money, and can not easily replace this truck. we want ford to fix the engine and the brakes, and not act like they have no idea about these problems. ford wants us to take the loss on the vehicle value or continue driving it until something bad happens. they want nothing in writing. and, we do not want to sell the vehicle to a stranger. we'd allow you to inspect our vehicle....and drive it for a test drive. would you want to be driving this vehicle with your young children as passengers?
I was driving on the highway at 60 mph and my rear end locked up and it almost had a major accident. i searched on line for recalls and on the 2011s they have been having problems with the transmission. i contacted ford and they said that there are no recalls at this time. i found 5 recalls on 2011s f150:1 recall id 68928 electrical system,2 recall id 90589 exterior lighting,3 recall id 84274 structure body,4 recall id 91590 power train automatic transmission,5 recall id 90588 power train automatic transmission control module. the dealership checked my truck and told me that the valve body wiring harness is bad and the repair will cost around $850.00 to repair. the repair shop said that they have been having problems with the 2011 models but no recalls. this is a safety issue and its serious. if i had been driving 75 mph and my rear locked up on me,it would have not been good and it could have caused a major pile up including injury to myself and others and possible. this problem needs to be looked at and investigated before something happens. i appreciate your time. thanks *tr
I was accelerating up around 45 mph and the vehicle just died to a rough idle. car behind had to swerve to miss me. i was told this is a throttle control board and is a common problem in ford vehicles. please tell ford to recall this problem or they will not recall this part until someone dies it looks like. *tr
I was driving at highway speed and tried to accelerate quickly to pass someone and the truck had major hesitation and shuddering. continues to do this anytime you try to rapidly accelerate. *tr
I have a ford f150 ecoboost. this vehicle is very defective due to loss of power when driving on highway trying to overpass other vehicles..vehicle looses power due to moisture or humidity that enters the intercooler. it also makes the cylinders to misfire and the turbo. due to that engine turns on and i have to power to my vehicle while driving which can cause an accident due to a sudden slow in the middle of the highway.. i have three kids and i wouldn't want any accidents happening due to this.. ford needs to do something about this vehicles i lost my money on a worthless piece of you know.im very disappointed because i've spend so much money on repairs are not working. *tr
I do not have the exact dates as to when the first incident took place. i was entering the e way merging into traffic when i tried to accelerate the vehicles lost power. i was fortunate not to be hit in the back by traffic i had to steer quickly to the side of the road. i have taken this vehicle and two others we own in on multiple occasions for this problem. the different fixes they have tried have not worked and yet i continue to be charged for these fixes. i feel if it is a known problem ford should be taking care of the problem not charging me to try and figure it out. after reading online that i am not the only one having these problems as i have been told i felt it is important to file a complaint before someone is killed. *tr
I was attempting to accelerate hard to merge into traffic onto interstate highway. when i pushed pedal to floor, the vehicle immediately slowed as if a governor had kicked in. fortunately, i had room on shoulder to not get hit, but had to wait and pump pedal twice before it began to accelerate again. i have not tried to replicate the problem. i had an identical problem 3 years ago in another ecoboost ford f150 that nearly killed me. i attempted to pass another vehicle and realized that i needed hard acceleration and the vehicle immediately slowed. there was no where to go, but fortunately my fellow motorists realized i had a problem and let me back into my lane without a multi-vehicle crash. i asked my dealer about that then, and was told that never had been reported. i immediately traded that truck for the one i have now that day. *tr
While attempting to accelerate and pass slower traffic on the highway, my 2011 f150 (4x4, ecoboost) truck lost almost all engine power, the check engine light started to blink, and the entire truck shook violently. due to the truck's sudden deceleration without brake lights signaling it, oncoming traffic (including a large tractor/trailer) approached from behind rapidly and everyone had to brake abruptly to avoid a collision. i turned on my hazard lights, pulled the truck to the right shoulder and sat there for a few minutes while i called work to inform them that i would likely have to wait for a tow truck and be delayed. during that call, the engine light stopped blinking and the truck began running normally again. i reentered the highway when traffic was clear and the truck proceeded to run normally until i reached my workplace (roughly 2-3 more miles on the highway and about 5 miles through the city). a less severe instance of this occurred months before. in that case, there was a short power lag upon attempted acceleration, the check engine light blinked 2-3 times and then stopped blinking and the truck did not shake at all. the whole episode disappeared as quickly as it appeared after letting off the accelerator for a second or two. i believed it was a one-off thing. after today's much more severe episode, it is clearly not a one-off and obviously has the potential to cause an unsafe situation. conditions (in central pa) at the time of today's occurrence (7:45am): temp: 69f, humidity: 96%, overcast (not raining), wind: 0mph, truck speed: about 65mph, a/c: on auto set to 72f, load: driver w/ personal belongings (no extra load). *tr
This is a ford ecoboost truck that is turbocharged. during a heavy rain on interstate 95 i tried to accelerate from about 5 mph and the truck lost power and barely moved. after about 30 seconds the truck regained power and moved ahead. there were 2 other instances on this trip also during rain.. the second time the check engine light came on and stayed on. upon returning home i searched the internet and found out i am not alone in this. there have been 3 tsb's to effect a repair. i made an appointment with the dealer. the engine code was a misfire on cylinder #6. tsb 13-08-01 was applied and i was billed $255.66. this problem needs a recall and repairs made before someone is badly hurt. i was nearly rear ended on the interstate. the problem is high humidity condenses in the intercooler (cac) or charge air cooler as ford calls it. then a sudden acceleration causes the condensed water to enter the engine grounding out the spark plugs on the left side of the engine causing a loss of power and stall. this has also been known to damage the left catalytic converter. why must i pay to fix a design flaw? ford needs to recall all of these trucks and repair them. this is not a mileage based problem but is inherent in all of them. during the right conditions it will happen. *tr
Hello, we wish to file a complaint on the 3.5 l eco boost engine in our 2011 f150. we have had numerous issues of shuttering, lurching, "lag", loss of power/lack of response. we first had this issue passing a semi on a 2 lane highway july 2014, no there was no fog/rain. it immediately shuttered, shook, lurched (coughed/sputtered) loosing power as we were passing. we made maneuvers to get to the shoulder where it struggled to stay engaged. we could have been hit head on, rear ended, side-broaded by the semi or worse, a combination of all 3. not to mention stranded. we have read of other issues, lawsuits and complaints being filed. the "shield" did not work (we have it, installed 8/2014 & flashed comp) it happened again two days in a row last week. the truck had no load either time, what if we were/are pulling our trailer? (the reason we bought this 60k truck, ford said it would) now they claim spark plugs are fowled, that is a new "fix". (not covered) however that is a separate "carbon tracking" plug issue, (the next "issue" could be the ignition plugs fowling due to carbon tracking from the moisture issue) the problem is not plugs, the major problem is moisture! ford is not addressing the moisture problem causing the "failure". they are fixing symptoms of the issue. the problem-moisture in the pistons water & engines do not mix! they have not fixed the problem which should fall under lemon law. next there will be a terrible accident (if not fatal) due to the loss of power/response, what then? "..it was operator error, they slowed/stopped in the middle of the lane in traffic"..tests are exactly what they are; tests. we are every day life; drive the truck for transportation, not petal-metal 24/7, "grocery getters", value our truck. since when are our lives indispensable or not important? when is any one going to do something about this safety issue before someone dies? *tr
I experienced lack of acceleration, sputtering, shaking from the vehicle while trying to pass on a 2 lane rural highway. this is second event of this nature and the first since having ford make certain repairs to engine to correct this issue. i have the v-6 eco boost engine. i am unhappy that this engine encounters this problem and it could result in a wreck with loss of life. this should be taken seriously! *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford 150. the contact stated that the brake pedal and accelerator pedal were too close together. as a result, the contact was constantly depressing both pedals at the same time and almost caused a crash. the manufacturer was not made aware of the defect. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure and current mileage was 25,439. updated 10/02/14
While driving down highway tried to accelerate to pass truck vehicle lost power and check engine light came on. pulled off road and shut the vehicle down and then restarted vehicle. later loss of power on any incline that i approached. *tr
While traveling down the road and the need to accelerate to pass a much slower vehicle my truck lost all power and began shuddering very bad. with oncoming traffic approaching quickly i had to step on the brakes rather hard and quick to avoid a accident. what would have possibly happened if i was towing a legal but heavy load? ford has a known problem with the coils on the ecoboost and this truly needs to be addressed. this is a extremely serious traffic safety when you loose all power and the severity of the shudder that also occurs. *tr
I accelerated hard on a highway entrance ramp and the engine started to stutter to the point i thought it might stall out. i let off the gas and accelerated again more slowly with no problem. thinking it was a one off i accelerated hard again and again the car stuttered. i went easy for a couple days and then again accelerated hard a few days later with the same result. i got online and realized i wasn't the only one having issues with this engine. on 4/18/14 i took my truck to the dealership(landers ford, collierville, tn) and reported the problem. they were familiar with it and said there was a fix. this fix included installing a moisture deflector and reprogramming the computer. it was performed and i left the dealership. yesterday, 4/23/14, it happened again. i am planning on going back to the dealership tomorrow. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle would accelerate rapidly and without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to diagnose the problem. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 36,000.
The subject pick up truck was southbound on i405 between orange ave and cherry ave in long beach california. the vehicle was in the fast lane or the lane adjacent to the fast lane. speed at the time of the incident was approximately 65 mph and the cruise control was engaged. traffic was moderate with all lanes moving at freeway speed. without warning, and simultaneously with the sound of a skidding tire, the vehicle pulled violently and abruptly to the right, out of control, and crossed all traffic lanes of the freeway and the shoulder of the freeway. just prior to departing the roadway, enough control was regained to avoid hitting a freeway directional sign in the landscape median. the truck entered the landscape median and came to rest facing south, parallel to the freeway. approximately 10 minutes passed before the california highway patrol responded to the accident site. the officer said he was responding to an accident that was reported. the vehicle was towed to a local ford dealer for investigation. five to ten minutes prior to the loss of control, the driver noticed a fluctuation in the speedometer from approximately 65 mph to 50 mph with no change in vehicle speed, engine rpm or performance. several weeks prior to the accident, the driver experienced an event at moderate speed which was described as feeling though the vehicle was hit from behind at slow speed although there was no one behind the truck. simultaneously, the speedometer and tachometer both failed to 0 and the dashboard display went blank. shortly thereafter, a "wrench" icon appeared momentarily on the display. the driver continued driving to a gas station and refueled. when the engine was started after refueling, all instruments appeared normal with no icons present. no icons re-appeared at any time up to and including the date of the accident. updated 06/16/14 *bf
I was driving my ford f150 ecoboost at highway speeds for about 1 hour, a light rain started with humid conditions. while traveling around 60 mph i attempted to pass another car but my truck would not accelerate. it began to shake and shudder when i tired to increase speed which almost resulted in a collision because i was unable to accelerate while passing. my truck has now returned to normal function but i have become aware that the issue i had has happened to several others. this is very dangerous because your truck is running just fine and all of sudden it will not accelerate. *tr
2011 ford f-150. consumer writes in regards to vehicle unintended acceleration. *smd the consumer stated the incident occurred while exiting a car wash. the vehicle accelerated on its own and would not stop, even with him standing on the brake. the vehicle stopped only after hitting a parked vehicle. the other vehicle sustained extensive damage. *jb
While accelerating the truck hesitates, looses power and jerks violently, the check engine light flashes several times while passing a vehicle. when the truck jerks and looses power it feels like the engine is about to explode. has almost caused several accidents because of the sudden lost of power. it appears to me that the truck is misfiring. *tr
I was traveling on the interstate where i live and was trying to get up to speed to merge with traffic and when i accelerated my truck lost power and began to sputter and shake, and would not get up to speed, and the check engine light came on, when i took to the local dealer where i purchased it i was told number 2cylinder and number 4 cylinder was mis firing, that i needed new coil packs so i had them replaced and i am still having the same problem. *tr
I should note that my truck has the 3.5l ecoboost engine. this occurred on a very cold morning (-15f) while attempting to pass a truck on a 2 lane highway, going up hill. i had been driving approximately 1 hour when this happened. as i pulled into the left lane and accelerated hard, the truck began to shutter and misfire, losing almost all power. the check engine light flashed 3 or 4 times then came on solid. i was able to drop back into the right lane behind the truck and avoid an oncoming vehicle. i limped the truck to an area where i could get off the road. after turning the truck off and restarting the engine, it ran better but not at what would be considered full power. i got to my destination about 20 minutes later, left the truck sit for about 2 hours and headed back towards home. the engine seemed to run normally at cruising speed. since that occurance, i have noticed a drop in gas mileage and intermittent misfires or shuttering of the engine when accelerating hard. i believe this has the potential to create a significant safety hazard upon acceleration to pass or to merge into traffic. this truck basically died and lost all power. this is clearly not an isolated issue, as i have read numerous complaints on various ford truck forum websites. *tr
While trying to merge onto the highway while under medium to heavy throttle my 2011 f-150 ecoboost lost all power while shuddering to the point it i had to abruptly get out of traffic and pull off the side of the road. as this was happening the check engine light started to flash and continued for a few minutes. after sitting for a few minutes the truck behaved almost normal as long as engine rpm was kept under 2500 above that it continued to miss and have a loss of power. by the time i got it home the cel was(is) on continuously. this all happened during rush hour on a very busy socal highway and could have been catastrophic. *tr
The vehicle lost power after accelerating to higher speed when entering the highway. this has happened multiple times when passing or entering highway at higher speeds. *tr
We were driving in normal conditions, going about 40 mph, all of a sudden we lost power/acceleration and truck jerked, and brakes seemed to applied by their selves very hard. this seemed to happen sporadically until about a week ago. its happening now at least 3 times a week. the truck is driven everyday on the interstate and my husband is very concerned that he is going to cause an accident. it happened yesterday and he said it was so bad, when the loss of power happened, the brakes locked so bad the tires just screeched. he took truck to the dealership on 3/4/14 and they could not find anything wrong with the truck. on the way home from the dealership (same day) it happened again. after the dealership told him that, i began searching on the internet and found the loss of power/brake problem. (moisture in cooler causing loss of power problem in f-150 echboost engines) he called the dealership back and he told them about the info on the internet that we had found, and that if had happened again that same day, they told him they were aware of the echboost problem, but can't do anything about it until a recall happens, so they did nothing to the truck .this is definitely a problem and it is going to cause a collision and possible death or injury when this happens. there definitely needs to be a recall on the f-150 ecoboost trucks. please help everyone that owns this vehicle and issue a recall. *tr
Under acceleration between 60-70 mph, trucks starts shuttering and decelerating. the check engine light starts blinking and will blink for about a minute before staying on. i was nearly rear ended by a semi entering the highway today as i was trying to accelerate up to highway speed and at approximately 65 mph, the truck started decelerating and shuttering down to 35 mph before i could get enough power to maintain that speed and get off to the side of the highway. *tr
I was on the enter state two lane thank god. it was raining and i started to accelerate to get around a big truck and my truck started to shudder and lost power all power. my truck has the 3.5 liter ecoboost engine. this is the third time this has happened to me. *tr
I was driving in highway traffic in the right hand lane at about 70-75 miles per hour. the weather was clear and the temperature was approximately 50 degrees. i encounter a slow moving vehicle and moved into the left hand lane and tried to promptly accelerate to pass a slower vehicle. when i attempted to accelerate the vehicle began to shake violently and go into a very rapid deceleration. the violent vibration of the entire vehicle and rapid deceleration made control a challenge. i moved to the right hand lane reduced speed to 50 mph and continued on to a ford dealership to have the vehicle evaluated. the dealership found that 3 coils failed which caused the vehicle to vibrate and decelerate rapidly. i had the vehicle repaired. *tr
Going up a steep hill in colorado on interstate i70 and the truck started hopping and lurching, dropping my speed from 60-40. the truck lost power almost causing me to be rear-ended on a busy highway. due to the steepness of the climb, i had to pull over on the side of a busy highway. the dealership said this is a misfire common in the ecoboost trucks. this was the third time this happened going up a steep grade on a busy highway, causing power to decrease drastically. truck had to be towed to a dealership. i was told it was cracked spark plugs, common in the ecoboost engine. i was very angry to find out i had to pay for the repairs as it is considered normal wear and tear and not under my extended warranty. i have read from other f150 ecoboost owners that this is a problem. ford should cover this fix or reimburse those who have to pay for it. regardless, this vehicle is not safe and should be fixed at no expense to the owner (especially when under warranty). *tr
When i tried to accelerate the truck started to buck violently and lacked power. after releasing the gas pedal and coasting a bit i was able to slowly regain speed. it was raining at the time and had been raining most of the day on 12/29/14. we have not had a recurrence but have not had any rainy days either. *tr
I approaching an intersection and let off the gas, and started to slowdown several hundred yards before coming to intersection. the f-150 suddenly began to accelerate without my foot on the gas and my foot apply as hard as i could to the brake. the truck was accelerating on own. abs kicked in and pulsed. but again truck was accelerating without my foot on the gas i complete made sure foot was removed and both feet on brakes. attempted to pump and immediately after relating from brake as pumping to try and stop as hard stop didn't work it was like it was building up and shoot out like a bullet and hit car in front me. once hit then quit accelerating. the front lifted up and full accelerating but feet were both on brakes. lucky no one was hurt. small damage to both vehicle because was as low speed intersection. if there wasn't a vehicle in front me. i would shot into intersection where only who knows what could have occurred to myself and others. this was a life threatening situation, that could have gone really bad.. end result could have been fatal. this needs to be investigated by ford and no one else should be injured or lives taken from an issue that needs immediate attention and resolution to the vehicle owners that are scared to drive there vehicle because of this occurrence. ford needs to make this right and make sure all vehicles this is reported on are safe or taken out of commission to make our roads safe for others and drives. This is a 2011 ford f150 with ecoboost engine. 3.5 liter v6 dual turbo. i purchased the truck 12-7-13 and it failed on 12-27-13 having problems accelerating. it has no power and the turbos do not work at random. the loss of power all the time is a serious safety concern. luckily i did not crash or cause a crash because of the issue. but the truck has been in for service since 1-30-14 , has been out of commission for over 30 business days and no dealership can fix it. the truck is under multiple warranties, but the issue of the turbos failing at random / ingesting moisture from the inter cooler is still there. 3/31/14 the truck is still at a dealership. *tr
My truck has shuddering problems during acceleration to pass. the weather was rainy and very wet. this is not the first time i have experienced the problem. while visiting louisiana in the summer of 2012 i experienced the same issue and while in san antonio, i had the catalytic converter replaced. *tr
My family and i were on our way to disney world in orlando, florida when my 2011 ford 3.5 liter ecoboost f150 truck completely shut down on the interstate 10 highway in the middle of nowhere, probably 60 miles to the east of tallahassee florida. at first i thought that we were not going to make it, as the truck completely died out. i pulled off to the side and finally got the vehicle started. we had been steady state cruising with the cruise set at 70 for atleast 2-2.5 hours. after doing some reading i see that it was probably condensation in the intercooler that entered the intake tract when i had accelerated to go around a big truck that was barely making it up a hill on interstate 10. this was a real bad experience, this has happened atleast 2 times since then. luckily i have not had a wreck or crashed, but as i keep reading up, i see many people complaining about the ecoboost f150. now, i have a truck in the shop with a blown motor, and i can only imagine that the water getting into the motor and the motor trying to compress that water was what caused my engine failure. i metal from the internal rotating assembly shoot through the side of my engine block last week. i believe that happened due to the water and the water bending the connecting rods. please help. *tr
While driving my f150, v6 ecoboost engine, down the interstate, when i try to accelerate, the truck to pass vehicles and or move out of the way of on coming traffic, the engine gives me nothing and shutters, feels like it is missing. i originally started to feel this in 2013, took it to the dealership, cause i thought it could be a transmission issue, and the service rep only asked if a light came on and if none has come on, probably won't show anything. i am outside of my warranty now and the truck is shuttering very badly when i try to accelerate anywhere, besides my gas mileage has dropped significantly, which now can become a epa issue. i have read about a lot of issues concerning this year ford with same engine with no outcomes. i have been told, once again that if i don't have a check engine light, then it probably wont show a code. i don't know where else to turn but to at least have a complaint filed where there is an issue with the 2011 ford f150 v-6 ecoboost engine. *tr
I was driving 70 mph up a hill when my truck started hesitating and my speed started to rapidly drop. i was in the fast lane and was forced to make my way to the right shoulder under a major power loss. the problem has since happened multiple time when i accelerate rapidly or under a load. *tr
While in wet conditions truck will stall, loose power, and shutter. while driving up a hill on busy interstate the truck stalled. had to take foot off accelerator to get the truck to go. we were almost rear ended because of this. this has happened many times! *tr
2011 f-150 with 3.5 liter ecoboost engine. truck had been driven approximately 20 miles in the rain. stopped at a traffic light and then proceeded to turn left. accelerated up a hill on a 2 line highway and truck began to shake violently and lost all power in a moving lane of traffic. a check engine light came on. pulled to the side of road and after a minute truck cleared up and drove normal. currently the truck surges under moderate acceleration and in 3rd gear will go into limp mode and lose all power. only occurs under moderate acceleration. *tr
While accelerating up a hill, the engine began to misfire and would not accelerate properly and actually slowed while the service engine light blinked. i was forced to pull off the highway, shut the engine off and restarted. the check engine light did not re-light and i continued on normally until attempting to pass a vehicle when the same malfunction occurred. this happened repeatedly over the past 3 months while attempting hard acceleration until it was returned to the dealer for repairs. the dealer installed a "deflector" to prevent moisture from entering the turbo or aftercooler and reprogrammed the computer. upon leaving the dealer, it was evident that the repairs did not work and the problem became worse. the engine misfires constantly resulting in an unsafe vehicle. *tr
Attempts to accelerate to passing speed resulted in severe engine sputter and bog down. failed to accelerate and continued sputtering for several miles to follow. this occurred twice during the same (approximately 8 hr) trip at highway speeds, during rainy conditions. the second time occurring on a long stretch of 2 lane road causing me to have to re-enter my lane with other traffic already moving up to pass behind me.
Truck frequently goes into limp mode/stalls. this has happened at various speeds, times, terrain, etc all over the country both with and without our camper attached and both with and without tow-haul engaged. i've taken it to the dealer numerous times and each time they've updated the software according to some tsb that's been released. i've had the deflector put on, cam changed, and now they're replacing the throttle body. *tr
While speeding up from a service road to merge into traffic on an express way at approximately 55-60 mph, my vehicle suddenly accelerated to 80+ mph in a matter of second. i hit the brakes and the vehicle briefly decrease speed to about 70 mph but as soon as i release the brake it quickly accelerated to 80+ mph again. i attempted to brake a second time but the vehicle reacted the same way. i then shifted the gear into neutral and hit the brake and exit the express way. the vehicle started to slow down but the engine idle was still extremely high and the accelerator depress almost to the floor. i pumped the accelerator until the idle reduce to normal. when i finally came to a stop, i turned the vehicle off and got out and my brakes were extremely hot and smoking. i looked under the hood but couldn't see anything that indicated a problem. after about 5 minutes i started the vehicle up and drove directly to the ford dealership (woody anderson ford, huntsville, alabama). ford motor company case# cas3080877
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150 ecoboost. the contact stated while driving 65 mph, the accelerator failed to respond to several attempts to accelerate with no warnings. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the mechanic stated that a deflector needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 23,389.
On i-20 east headed to augusta, ga from alabama i pulled into the left lane to pass and the engine starts sputtering, skipping and lost almost all power. it happened 3 times yesterday. it was in a light rain and since there was light traffic i was able to slow down and get the engine to recover each time. this could be a real danger in heavy traffic. i tested it again this morning (08/18) and if you try to accelerate quickly it just about shuts down until you let off. *tr
