While trying to accelerate at high speeds, such as passing on an interstate or accelerating up an incline, the truck shudders violently and engine light flashes. if driver maintains speed, engine loses all power and engine light stays on. loss of power at highway speeds is deadly. i was almost rear-ended while trying to accelerate up a hill in busy highway traffic. truck shuddered and lost power for 5 seconds. the truck coasted until i could apply power again to the engine. applying power caused more shuttering, but engine did not lose power again because i was closer to the top of the hill and not as much strain on the engine.

Truck will downshift at random

We were driving down the highway doing the speed limit of 55 mph when suddenly the truck down shifted straight to first gear which caused the vehicle behind us to slam on their brakes and nearly miss an accident. it stayed in first gear despite pressing the gas. only got it to shift to second gear after putting into manual and shifting up from there. there was a separate occurance where the speedometer failed to read our speed (was at 0 mph for miles) and the screen where all the fuel economy info should be showed blank spaces. there has been a recall issued for just this (we were notified by our ford app) but when i call our local dealership they say they have not been provided with a remedy yet. it is highly dangerous to drive our truck in this circumstance yet nobody is able to provide the powertrain control module reprogramming at this time, although the recall was issued april 25, 2016. unsure what we are to do as this is our main vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle shifted from sixth gear into first gear without warning. the rear wheels locked and the rear throttle failed, which caused the vehicle to spin. the contact was able to turn off and restart the vehicle. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was still able to be driven; however, the dealer stated that the vehicle was not safe to drive. the contact stated that the failure was directly related to nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the failure recurred. the approximate failure mileage was 91,000.

Purchased my f-150 used (private owner), had 8k miles on it. at 10-14k, i've notice when starting off and coming to a stop, there's "jerking" coming from the rear of the truck. just this pass weekend, i pulled a trailer, a 70 mile round trip, with no "jerking" issues however, once the trailer was removed and i went back to normal driving, the "jerking" started to appear...again. trying to gather info before heading to ford. *tr

My transmission is not considered in the recall of other similar models. i have spent $2,000 to fix this issue that is already identified as an issue. when the company should be replacing the defective parts. transmission solenoid have been replaced now the lead frame failure issue along with the codes identified in other recalls.

On 3 occasions the transmission would not shift out of 1st gear. two of these occurred when pulling onto a 50mph roadway. i was able to pull to the side of the road, turn off the truck and restart the truck. the transmission worked properly after that. on the most recent occasion i had been slowed down by an accident on the freeway. after clearing the accident i accelerated to get up to freeway speed but could not go over apx. 20 mph because the transmission would not shift out of 1st gear. i was in the middle lane and could not get to the side of the road to shut off and restart the truck. after shifting to first gear manually (auto transmission) i was able to manually shift the automatic transmission through the gears and had normal transmission operation after that.

We have several of the ford f-150 with the recall of 16s19 but this one has experienced down shifting and coming to a complete stop in the middle of the road and almost causing a wreck several times to the point we have had to take it off the road for safety reasons. we have taken it to the dealership and was told that there is not a remedy for this problem and they do know when there will be one. we have called ford customer service and was told the same thing mean while we have a truck that only has about 83,000 miles on it that cannot be driven and it was not bought to be yard art. if ford cannot fix the problem they should at least give a loaner vehicle until they figure out how to fix it.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving approximately 35 mph, the rear wheels screeched. the contact looked at the instrument panel and noticed that the vehicle downshifted on its own. the contact slowed down the vehicle and continued driving. the dealer was contacted by telephone and stated that there was a recall for the failure. the manufacturer was notified and confirmed that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 28,400.

#1: driving down the interstate, attempting to pass a semi; vehicle lost power as i tried to accelerate and we had to coast to a stop. this has actually happened twice. the first time they replaced the intercooler and the second time i replaced the spark plugs. it occurred about three weeks after getting the vehicle it's regular service. if there was a problem with the gaps on the plugs, and they knew cars were losing power because of it, then they should have mentioned that at the service! #2: driving down the interstate and speedometer jumped around and went to zero. after i got off the highway, i lost power and had erratic shifting while trying to cross an intersection. there's a tsb out for this too!! why isn't there a recall if there's a defective part that creates dangerous situations!?!?

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle failed to reverse from the gear shifter several times, the instrument panel failed to illuminate for the gear in reverse, there was no illumination on the gear shifter, and the gear was difficult to change in reverse. prior to the failure, the instrument panel lights illuminated for the gear shifter when changing gears. the failure continued to randomly progress. the vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 51,250.

At 50 mph while accelerating in traffic the engine shook and i lost power. this only happens with the ecoboost engine. ford told the nhtsa this was corrected and the suit was ended. ford will not install this repair in my truck.

Under acceleration the vehicle shudders, and shakes. it seems to lose power for seconds before it picks back up. has happened several times while pulling my camper and passing vehicles on highway and interstate. the other day while driving down the parkway the truck down shifted from 6th gear to 1st or 2nd without warning. i was almost rear ended and had to drive off onto the shoulder to avoid the collision. i have contacted ford and i will be taking the truck in for warranty work on wednesday april 6th 2016. i only have 3k miles left on power train warranty and none left on bumper to bumper. i purchase ford vehicles cause of there long lasting and reliable reputation. i have two children and wife that i expect to keep safe while driving this truck. i hope ford will look deeper into the problems at hand, dont be like gm and kill people before you fix the issues.

Vehicle has abrupt shift from 1st to second resulting in violet jerk, also from 6 to 5 or 5th to 4th. numerous people online have same problem. also using black stone labs fluid diagnostic has shown major wear in transmission. i'm seding in second test next week. vehicle manufacturing date is 03/2011 this happens from 1st to second at very low speeds 5mph or less. and downshift bump at any speed but mostly between 40 to 30 mph. jerk is enough to shake entire truck feels like someone hit you from behind.

My f-150 supercrew 4x4 with ecoboost engine began misfiring on hard acceleration situations, such as merging and changing lanes on the interstate. after approximately 2 months, the issue has gotten worse to the point of misfiring under normal acceleration. the jerking from the misfire condition is quite violent, and i believe to be unsafe. this is a known issue related to the design of the trucks intercooler. condensation builds during prolonged highway driving, particularly in humid climates. i am in arizona, but i drive 50+ miles a day on the freeway. the nhtsa dropped their investigation of this unsafe condition, apparently agreeing that ford's tsb was sufficient in dealing with the matter. my truck is not under warranty, however it exhibits a design flaw that is unsafe. how is there not a recall on this? disappointing.

While driving at any speed (70) mph the transition will down shift into low gear causing the rear tires to skid, engine rpm to spike. this happens without warning and if on wet or snow-covered roads you would not maintain control. i feel this needs to be a ford recall before someone is killed from loss of control or getting rear ended by a semi caused by the sudden stopping of the affected auto.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the speedometer gauge failed and the vehicle independently downshifted into first gear. as a result, the vehicle lost power although the accelerator pedal was being depressed. the contact mentioned that the vehicle jerked before resuming normal acceleration. the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the output shaft speed sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact stated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 170,000. updated 08/02/16*lj updated 6/19/18*jb

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the trs system malfunctioned, which caused the vehicle to drive in reverse when prompted to switch gears. the vehicle was diagnosed, but not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the issue. the failure mileage was 127,000.

In 2016 i went to get recall repaired from franklin tn dealership i purchased the truck from, they refused, in 2019, they claim that the software was not available from ford, online in emails to another dealer, i have not been told when to bring truck in to get all recalls repaired. both dealerships are in tn. when in first gear, the truck will jerk back down and won't allow me to go to 2nd gear without pressing hard on gas, loud fan noise from the hood, breaks go to the floor and i have to pump to feel truck slowing down, air and heat continue to not work, air won't get cool and heat won't get hot, both dealerships have refused to repair or blamed ford for not giving them what they needed to fix the recalls. i am documenting so my family will be able to give this to attorney. the down shift happens when the truck is in drive moving on any and every street, parking lot, stop light/sign. the loud fan noise from the engine only happens when the truck is started, the brakes have been going to the floor for 8 years at different times of the day/night when driving.

Upon downshift during acceleration, the truck shudders, misfires, backfires through exhaust system, and loses power while creating a violent shake in the drivetrain. this occurs in below 35 dry or wet weather. this issue destroyed my catalytic converters, as well as broke loose the baffles in factory muffler causing over $2,000 in repairs for exhaust. i further replaced plugs, and plug boots. the vehicle continues to have this severe issue, and the only way to keep from further damaging the vehicle is to pull off the road, and idle as well as rev engine for several minutes. it is extremely unsafe, and nearly caused other vehicles to rear ended me on at least 5 occasions. all of which i had to jump onto shoulder of road or in median to keep from getting hit. my research shows that this is a common problem amongst owners of this vehicle. i currently owe $22,000 on this vehicle, and am quite frustrated with the lack of a recall from ford. solutions of a walker cac are known; however, ford is not willing to even consider paying for this fix. please help in the resolving of this issue?

Upon returning home from work, i parked the truck in the driveway. the next day, i went to the truck to go to work and the truck had rolled back and partially into the street. when i got into the truck, it was in park. when arriving home from work that evening, i again parked in the driveway, placed the truck in "park" and when i took my foot off the brake, the truck rolled back in a jerky motion. i now have to park in my driveway using the emergency brake, to prevent the truck from rolling back into the street. the distance the truck rolled back was approximately 4 feet and it seemed to happen slowly enough that it wasn't noticeable until the next day. this happened the day after new years 2016 and to date, i haven't addressed the issue through the dealership.

2011 f-150. consumer writes in regards to automatic transmission safety recall. *ld the consumer stated while driving the vehicle abruptly downshifted to a lower gear causing the speed to reduce several miles per hour. the vehicle was repaired. the consumer requested to be reimbursed for the repairs. the consumer referenced recall notice 19s07/nhtsa recall 19v-075. *js

While traveling at 40 mph on country road three times and once going down the hwy. at 65 mph the transmission down shifted to 1st gear very violently with no warning. noticed the speedometer also dropped down to 0 and bounced around as this happened. this has happened all in the past week.

It starts shuddering, shaking and rapidly losing power while accelerating.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving at 60 mph, the rpm's started revving excessively high and loud without depressing the accelerator pedal. the speedometer, the tachometer and the gear selector also failed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the body control module and the transmission change sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 189,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while the vehicle was stopped, it jolted. while driving unknown speeds, the transmission slipped when engaging into gears. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (penske ford, 8970 la mesa blvd, la mesa, ca 91942) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be reset. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and stated that the vehicle was not included in any recall. the failure mileage was 36,000.

Ford f150 3.5l ecoboost completely looses power when accelerating in passing gear. vehicle shutters and bucks severally and does not allow any type of acceleration to be able to exit into slow lane interstate traffic. normal operation returns after about 1.5 minutes of coasting and then gently applying accelerator to regain vehicle control. during the recovery time the engine runs very rough as if timing was completely out of sync.i drive 1000 miles per week on interstate 95 and this condition is ongoing. i experience at least 2 or 3 of these episodes per week when i try to accelerate to pass another vehicle. this is a safety concern to me because the vehicle looses power completely and does not recover until 1.5 minutes later. the check engine light comes on very time this condition occurs. when reading the error codes it only show misfiring of all cylinders (code p0300).

On october 26 was on my way to work i was on loop 250 which is 60 mph. got on the loop was approaching an over pass when suddenly with no warning lights it starts jerking, a pulling, shaking. took foot off gas pedal looked at dash no warning lights on but the speedometer and gears on dash were going crazy going up and down. slowing down applying the brake slowly cause lots of traffic behind and i front of me. i was shaking and very upset finally pulled over and turned truck off called my husband i told him what happened. he asked if the truck turned on it did i took it to dealership going very slow. my husband met me there and i told them what happened. i was very shaken up almost in tears. this is a saftey issue im like what if the truck would have caught one of those gears when it was going up and down from 1-6 or reverse i would have flipped that truck. please please investigate this problem before it happens to someone else and is hurt or killed. it is nov 1 and they still have not even diagnosed my vehicle. i want it fixed correctly but 1 week and not even looked at yet. that is my only vehicle and it's been very inconvenient getting to work.

At 68,000 miles while driving 65 mph the truck goes from 6th gear to 2nd cause the truck to shutter and jerk at a high rate of speed and loss of control in rush hour traffic. the rpm's spike to 7000 as the truck tries to get back into gear. i also experienced going from 1st gear to 5th gear while starting out leaving me stuck out in traffic because it doesnt have the rpm's to get into 5th gear. after the 1st experience of this happening i took my truck to the west herr ford dealer where i bought it. the service department couldnt duplicate the problem so there was nothing they could do. over he next month this happened several more times this time with the kids in the truck so i took it back to the dealer however this time i was able to capture a video of my instrument panel when it went from 6 to 2. the dealer agreed there was a problem but couldnt duplicate it so nothing they could do. i took it to another ford dealer who sent my video to the factory. the factory indicated they have never seen the problem. there recommendation was to go part by part and no guarantee of the problem being fixed. i took my truck to a transmission shop and they indicated that there is a known problem with the 2011 ford transmissions. i had to have the transmission rebuilt as a result of the dropping gears. the solenoid in the valve body was defective causing the transmission to have gears jump. after getting the truck back i experienced the same problem. as it turns out the replacement solenoid from ford was faulty requiring it to be replaced.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle independently downshifted from sixth to first gear without warning. as a result, the rear end of the vehicle seized. the contact mentioned that the failure recurred intermittently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the failure was unable to be determined. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 64,000. updated 03/16/16*lj *cn

Driving on highway at 70mph, i saw my speedometer momentarily drop to 40mph. it did it again about 15 seconds later, and downshifted to about 4th gear momentarily. about a minute later, still at 70mph the speedometer dropped, and the transmission downshifted to 1st gear! my rear wheels locked up, and i lost control, and fishtailed for a few seconds. luckily i had taken a half day vacation and was not in rush hour traffic. still other cars had to swerve to keep from being hit. the dearlership was able to reproduce the problem, and replaced a moulded plastic module made by continental that i think contained the transmission speed sensor. so it appears that when the transmission speed sensor signal is lost, the failure mode is to downshift to 1st gear no matter the speed of the vehicle.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while the vehicle was parked and the key was removed from the ignition, the instrument cluster lights remained illuminated. the failure caused the battery to be drained completely. the failure occurred on multiple occasions. the contact had to disconnect the battery in order for the lights to stop illuminating. the vehicle was driven to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the technician stated that the computer was not able to read the gear shift while in the park position. the technician stated that the gear shift needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 46,200.

Driving at 65 went to accelerate on highway felt loss of power followed by a shudder then flashing engine light. it is a ecoboost

We drove the vehicle 6 hours with the air conditioner on.... parked it - started it again about 2 hours later. the vehicle revved very high, barely chugged as we drove and then the yellow "wrench" light came on - indicating transmission issues as well as a "limp home" mode. we were unable to drive the vehicle at that point and had to keep it parked.... after doing some research - we discovered that condensation had gotten into some sort of condenser and caused the eco-boost engine to misfire and essentially malfunction.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. when the gear was shifted, the vehicle failed to drive in reverse and the rear lights would not illuminate. the cause of the failure was not diagnosed. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the contact indicated that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v190000 (exterior lighting, power train). the contact stated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 250,800.

While driving down the highway about 55 mph the vehicle will down shift and the odometer will die and drop to zero, most of the indicators will have dashes instead of numbers. the truck will automatically slow down causing me to have to pull off the road to avoid an accident. i then have to turn the vehicle off and remove the key from ignition and restart the vehicle up again to reset all the gauges. this normally happens within the first 10 miles of driving the vehicle. this would only happen on a few occasions now it is happening more frequently. there was a recall issued around the 1st of july 2016 but i was told the software fix would not be ready until the 3 quarter of the year. ford now wants to charge me $131.00 to diagnose the problem. i should not have to pay for it to be diagnosed if they already have a recall. i wonder how many lives will be in danger until the 3rd quarter update is available.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and attempting to shift into reverse, the vehicle would hesitate. the contact observed that the reverse lights were not working. the check engine and tool warning lights were also illuminated. when the vehicle was shifted between drive and reverse the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. the technician diagnosed that the transmission sensor needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 85,000. update 01/13/16 ma updated 01/19/16. *jb
