We have classified the 495 complaints from 2011 Ford F-150 about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
I have a 2011 f150 ecoboost. when i put it in reverse the lever on the truck does not dial reverse and the truck wont go in gear, after about 10 seconds there is a wrench that appears in the dash and check engine light and the truck is finally able to move back but the reverse lights wont work while the truck is backing up the reverse sensors or camera dont work either making this a big safety issue. the truck also experienses a major loss of power. after the wrench and check engine light appear indicating there is an issue none of the other gears light up when i change to other gears and if i put it on drive the truck has a limited amount of power. and still with the wrench and check engine light on, if i put the truck in park and step on the gas a little bit the truck will accelerate on its own for a about 6 econds. this only goes away if i turn off the truck and back on, but as soon as i put it in reverse it will have all the issues again. and there is no reading of the transmission oil temperature either. i connected a scanner to the truck to diagnose it and it gave me the code: p0705 transmission range sensor circuit (prndl input) i had the truck scanned also by different scanners and all 3 give the same code. that caode calls for a bad transmission range sensor, but i looked at the transmission and there is no sensor on the side. i checked online and there are more people experiencing this problem and some ford mechanics say changing the transmission lead frame will fix the issue. dealer says mi vin doenst show a recall fpr this. i believe there should be. i am nit the only one experiencing this. the dealer did say their transmission department was backed up though.
My 2011 ford f150 ecoboost is making a humming noise when you start the truck and move the shifter into a gear and apply the brakes., does this for about a minute or i rev the engine and it goes away. the brake pedal feels very week then the pressure comes back up. i have had this truck into gateway ford in greeneville tn since the second day i own the truck. the saleman said this is normal for this type motor. they also changed the spark plugs for a miss i was having in the motor. i have been to the dealer 4 times always get sent away like im crazy its all in my mind. don't know where else to turn any help would be very grateful. thank you this happens thru out the driving of the truck
2011 ford f150 traveling at 65 mph straight down the highway the transmission seemed to slip out of gear and then down shifted to first gear causing the wheels locked up and loss control of the truck and ran off the road into a dry ditch. research show a safety recall for this exact problem. safety recall notice16s19/nhtsa recall16v-248. ford motor company say my vehicle is not covered in this recall. also fords info for this recall states that 2011 f150 built at dearborn plant between the dates of february 11 2011 to september 8 2012 are covered in this recall. my vehicle falls into this category but is not covered. if i were to have been on a heavily traveled road this could have cause a serious accident
Driving along at 50mph on flat road and sudden downshift to 1st gear causing rear wheels to squeal lasting .5 to 1 second. dealer could not duplicate or find any code.
F-150 transmission fails to shift into gear at some points, will up shift into 3rd or 5th gear when accelerating randomly and will drop into 2nd/1st gear at highway speeds. has progressively gotten worse and worse to the point that it is almost daily. vehicle is now unreliable and unsafe.
Transmission unexpectedly shifts into lower gear. was informed by ford dealer in writing that i needed to replace the lead frame assembly. brakes fail on cold start. vacuum pump replaced by dealer. brakes still experience issue (as described in ford's campaign) was informed by ford that there was an issue with the brake booster.
My 2011 ford f-150 pick-up is shifting very hard from 1st gear to 2nd gear. the hard shift causes my pick-up to lurch forward abruptly. it also shifts hard some of the time when it shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear. i took my pick-up to our local ford dealer, and they recommended a transmission update for $100.00 not covered by the extended warranty.
Vehicle, losing power going up hills rpm climes slowly. almost full loss of power and check engine light comes on than off after stopping
While driving in normal conditions at a constant speed the speedometer will start jumping around and the truck will downshift to match the lower speeds. i was traveling at 65mph on the highway and the truck downshifted greatly reducing my speed causing the vehicle following me to swerve to avoid a collision. occasionally when taking off from a start the truck will immediately shift to 5th gear losing all acceleration. if i shut the vehicle off and restart it immediately the problem will usually go away.
Transmission randomly downshifted from 6th gear to first and locked up the rear tires.
Driving on highway at 70-75 mph, transmission self-shifted from 6th gear to 3rd gear. damaged the transmission and differential, both requiring repair. vehicle was difficult to control whe downshift occurred. could have caused collision.
Molded lead-frame recall (16n02). the output from the output speed sensor (oss) is intermittent. however, it is rarely out long enough for the computer to recognize a problem.the computer requires a loss of this signal for a full 15sec before it will throw a code. otherwise it will just continue to register the last registered speed. the result of the loss of the oss is very hard shifting while pulling out into traffic and sometimes total loss of any gears. this problem happens several time in a day while driving in town. this has made in-town driving very dangerous. the loss of the oss in straight stretches is usually not noticeable unless driving with the cruse control on. while on cruse, there will be a momentary loss of speed regulation which will resume in a few seconds when the oss resumes opperation. the ford dealer will not fix this under the recall because they say they can't find any codes in the computer. we just picked up the truck from the dealer service department on 12/27/2017 with no problems found or repairs done. the truck acted up four times on the way back home that day. but again, no codes were generated. finding a code should not be the only provision to fixing this very dangerous problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while the vehicle was stationary, the gear shifter malfunctioned. the contact stated that the vehicle would not shift gears when prompted and that the gear shift indicator did not illuminate. metro ford auto sales in tupelo, mississippi was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was 230,000. the vin was not available.
I often can not turn on the car due to the "p" parking light not turn on. i do not know if it is some sensor that has an intermittent fault. i already went to ford autonation - margate, fl and they did not find the problem, but i've been suffering from this same defect for a long time.
Nhtsa campaign #16v248000 .... while driving on the highway, the transmission abruptly downshifts. the rpms will then begin fluctuating up and down causing the vehicle to shudder and lurch. the transmission then begins to slip around. the indicator shows it bouncing from 2 to 6 to 1. i took it to a shop and they hooked it up to check the sensors and it came back that the solenoids were stuck. they reset the sensors, but the symptoms began again not more than 2 miles down the road.
Output shaft speed sencer goes bad it drope transmission to first gear with no warming causing the tires to slie and engine to reach excessive rpm. fells like stomping on the breaks
On 11/25/17 i was travelling on the highway at approximately 65 mph and the truck started bucking and downshifting. i was able to safely pull off at the next exit and park the truck and had to have it towed to a trusted repair shop. the truck was still bucking fairly violently even at slow speeds while i was trying to park it. the truck would also not shift into reverse. repairs were performed and a transmission shift solenoid and harness was found to be faulty.
Backed out of driveway and it would not shift into drive. screen went blank to indicate gear. very loud noise when it finally shifted into gear after several minutes. dealer repaired and said it would be under recall. it took a couple of months to get parts and dealer said not to drive on highway.
While driving the vehicle around 45 to 50 mph the vehicle started skidding. the brakes were not applied when this happened the vehicle just started skidding on its own. the vehicle sounded like the transmission was coming apart. i contacted ford and told them about the issue and they said there were no recalls on the vehicle. i told them the this was a safety issue and that my wife has back problems and that when the vehicle started skidding it jerked us forward. if there would have been vehicles behind us or if we were going thru an intersection this could have caused a serious accident. they told me ford was not responsible and that i should take the vehicle in and have it serviced. we were driving on a highway when this occured.
Not sure of name but send info from transmission so it will start. lets ignition know vehicle is in park so it will start. my dealer tells me ford has over 4,000 on back order so it may be a while before my truck gets fixed. they have already had it for a few weeks and this is the second time in a month. i am paying $500 a month for something i can not drive due to manufacturer part defective or on back order.
I am having a safety issue with my vehicle. when i place the shifter into reverse or drive the vehicle does not go. there is a delay until it engages into reverse or drive, the check engine light comes on as well. when you drive there is a hard shift. i did some research and a lot of people are complaining about this. i did check the check engine light codes and the issue is the " transmission range sensor". i am afraid that while i am driving it will disengage from drive and put my life in danger.
Driving 4-lane highway, truck suddenly shifts into low gear. stopped truck, tried to accelerate but would not go. suddenly went back into a low gear so i was able to get the truck off the highway. thankfully no one was behind me or there would have been an accident. i called my local ford dealer, and although there was a recall for the same problem happening with other ford f-150 trucks, my vin was not on the recall list. should it be?
The transmission started acting up and not shifting correctly while driving on the highway. the service lights on the dash came on and the truck went into limp mode. the truck has been to the dealer, and they stated it was a faulty molded lead frame. it seems there was already a recall involving this part, and ford initiated customer satisfaction program 16n02. however all parties have stated that my truck is not covered under this recall, despite it being the same problem with the molded lead frame. i'm hoping that eventually this recall is expanded as this is a major safety issue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle would downshift into different gears. in addition, the speedometer dropped to zero. the contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. the vehicle failed to restart. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 71,151.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted and caused the rear wheels to lock. the power train fault warning indicator illuminated. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to jimmy michel motors (555 s elliott ave, aurora, mo 65605 (417) 678-5001) where it was awaiting diagnosis. the manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vin was not included in the manufacturer's recall extended warranty: 16n02. the approximate failure mileage was 134,582.
I'm having problem with the output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission. it has cause the transmission to force a temporary downshift into 1st gear. at the time of the downshift, my vehicle experienced an abrupt speed reduction that cause the rear tires to slide and loss of vehicle control. ford has recalled some of the f150's but has left others like mine with the same issue out of the recall.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving approximately 40 mph, the transmission dropped from the fifth to the first gear. also, the speedometer moved erratically and was unable to register the exact speed. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was a loss of communication in the speed sensors. the vehicle was repaired. the dealer was contacted (performance ford in tooele, ut, 888-625-0136), but the technician was unable to explain why the vehicle was not included in a recall. the manufacturer stated that there was no recall and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 142,000.
When trying to shift into reverse the dash light will not illuminate, will not shift into reverse, and maintenance wrench light comes on. i am able to shift into neutral, drive, and any other gear with dash illumination and operate the vehicle. reverse will not shift and after multiple tries it finally takes and "jolts" backwards without warning and allows me to backup. however dash light never changes and am unsure when it will shift. i am told by the dealership that it is a malfunctioning "transmission range sensor". my vehicle matches the make, model, and year of an active recall: #12v190000 however i am informed by the local ford dealership that my vin number does not match the recall list in oasis? and therefore is not covered by ford. i have had no issues with my vehicle up until this point and cannot believe that ford is refusing to cover this obvious safety hazard.
2011 ford f-150 xlt supercrew 4x2. i was operating the vehicle in normal conditions earlier this week and noticed that the vehicle was not accelerating after pushing on the gas pedal. i had noticed this very intermittently over the past several months, but this issue was constant. there were no warning indicators, but when attempting to accelerate the pu seemed to be operating at about 30-40% of the expected performance level. i took into the ford service dealer, northside ford, and they mentioned it might be the pcm but they needed to start by replacing the o2 downstream sensor. they replaced the o2 downstream sensor and re-tested and it them indicated that the pcm needed to be replaced. the vehicle only has 112,500 miles so it seems odd that there was a recall (12v190000) but my vehicle was not included and it seems to be exhibiting similar problems. i would like to see if someone can look into the issue as i believe it has a similarities to the previous recalls.
2011 ford f150 5.0 lariat, vehicle downshifted into 1st gear while on highway causing rear tires to lock up and slide offroad to stop. was told was not covered under current recall for same issue even after all vehicle specs and built at same plant
Output speed sensor (oss) failure (recall: 16n02). i was driving down a city street at approximately 45 mph, when the vehicle suddenly down shifted from fifth gear to first gear and then shifted back into fifth gear after approximately 10-15 seconds. later that day, i was accelerating from a stop light when the vehicle felt like it had lost power and began to jerk when i pressed the gas. the speedometer stopped working, the info center displayed all dashes, the rpm's increased and the service advanced trac message displayed and the engine light illuminated. i had the codes from the engine light read and it came up as p0720 fault. my vehicle is experiencing all of the signs listed in the recall, but is not included. my truck was manufactured in the dearborn plant within the time frame of the recall dates. i have contacted ford and the dealership and they could not explain why. i have attached a pdf of the recall.
I have a 2011 f150 with just under 44k miles. took the truck in for a set of front brakes and was advised that there was a small leak not exactly sure where it was coming from. within less that a week the engine was not engaging took it back to the dealership they advised that i needed a new transmission as there were no fluids in it. needless to say i was quite surprised as we had just topped off all the fluids in the past two weeks. not real sure about this, but i had a new transmission put in picked it up upon leaving the dealership i had another problem the steering seemed a little tight ended up taking i the truck back to the dealership the advised that i replace the electronic power steering assy and program module to vehicle. i wasn't too sure about this so i had the vehicle towed to the dealership that i normally deal with as the current one had terrible customer service and was unwilling to contact ford on my behalf they said it was coincidence that this was happening. i have not had any problems with the truck in the past it has run perfectly. my guy at my dealership took the truck in and had to put in the power steering assy. this all happened within a period of 3 weeks and i had to pay for a rental car.
I've had transmission problems from the beginning with this vehicle. at first, the transmission would down shift very hard at random times, especially slow speeds. the past few months, after a rain the transmission will run in 5th gear only. once i drive a few miles, i can turn the vehicle off for a minute and it will usually correct the problem. last week, i was driving steadily at about 45 mph when the transmission suddenly downshifted to 1st gear! it smoked the rear tires and bounced the rear axles until i shifted into neutral and coasted to a stop. fortunately there were no cars behind me or it could have easily caused an accident. once i turned the vehicle off and then restarted it functioned normally. i've taken it to the local dealer a number of times and their solution is always to "reflash" the transmission. this could be serious issue and i'm nervous to drive the vehicle at speed now....
When accelerating onto the highway the power shut down and the engine shaked violently and the engine light came on. afterword i could not speed up pass 50mph. i pulled over let it rest for 30min and the engine light stayed on and i was not able to do any aggressive accelerations and could barely make it up hills.
Tl* the contact's husband owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 73 mph, the vehicle downshifted into first gear without warning. the contact stated that the rear wheels seized, which caused the vehicle to lose control. the vehicle was taken to john vance ford (5400 s. division street, guthrie, ok 73044, tel: 855-558-1905) where it was diagnosed that the leadframe needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the manufacturer was contacted and notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 162,000.
Transmission slipping
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the transmission failed to shift without warning. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (tallassee automotive, 1618 gilmer avenue, tallassee, al, 36078) where it was diagnosed that the lead frame wiring harness to the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was currently being repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
I took my f-150 in for the same exact symptoms of recall #16s19. they replaced the same exact part required to remedy the outstanding recall, but my vin was not covered. this recall needs to be expanded to cover further vin's since it is a larger issue than currently reported.
I stopped to back into a parking spot, but when i put the shift lever into reverse the "r" indication would not illuminate, and reverse would not engage. this caused the check engine light to come on. when i attempted to shift into any other gear, the "prnd" lights would not illuminate. when the truck was put into drive, the gear would engage, but it seemed to be under limited power. when gears a changed, the transmission shifts very hard. if the vehicle is placed in park and turned off, when it is turned back on the gear selection illumination light shows, but once the transmission is placed in reverse, the issue repeats. a recall was done for this exact issue on this year, make, and model of vehicle, but the vin does not show any active recalls.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle independently shifted into first gear from fifth and sixth gear while being operated at 65 mph. all the warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to an unknown local dealer where it was determined that this was a common electrical issue with ford vehicles. a remedy was not provided. the contact stated the vehicle operated normally until it was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the manufacturer was notified of the issue and informed the contact that the dealers were independently owned and nothing could be done. the failure mileage was approximately 88,000.
Vehicle would not illuminate correct gear when inserting key into the ignition. the vehicle could not be started. after waiting 10 minutes, the p was illuminated in the instrument cluster and the vehicle started as normal. soon after, the p would not illuminate. the vehicle could not be shifted into drive to move. this happened while driving and the vehicle downshifted to first gear. took the vehicle to the dealership and they first inform me that the shifter must be replaced. after giving the go ahead, they inform me that the shifter is fine. they need to replace the lead frame in the transmission and the price is $750. my vehicle falls into the timeframe of ford recall 16s19 but they have told me the vin does not match. after informing them that this is a safety issue and working with the dealership and ford service, there is nothing they can do for me. i am on my own to pay for these repairs and hope that it actually fixes the problem. ford has lost a life long customer.
I have a 2011 f150 truck it's saying power steering assist fault, service advancetrac, when i turn the wheel it makes a loud noice still drivable but dangerous. i have looked everywhere online there is recalls on this exact same thing just not on my vin for this truck but same year an truck has recalls. this is very dangerous an very expensive to fix your self . this is a ford default an they are not wanting to fix i'm willing to go through all levels to see to it they fix it.
The speedometer begins swinging erratically then the truck automatically downshifts from 6th gear to 1st gear at full highway speed (70 mph) causing the back tires to lock up and skid down the road. extremely dangerous. contacted ford and they said they were aware of the problem and there is actually a recall on this very problem, but not for my truck since it was not within the recall dates by a few months. took the truck to two different ford dealerships and they said they don't know what is wrong with it, but could do the work outlined in the recall as long as i paid for it. see attached recall notice from ford's website- ford issues safety recall and customer satisfaction program for certain 2011-2012 ford f-150, and 2012 ford expedition, ford mustang and lincoln navigator vehicles in north america to update powertrain control module software and inspect for certain diagnostic trouble codes ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 202,000 2011-2012 ford f-150, and 2012 ford expedition, ford mustang and lincoln navigator vehicles for a potential issue with the output speed sensor on the vehicle's transmission lead frame. under certain conditions, the transmission controls could force a temporary downshift into first gear. depending on the speed of the vehicle at the time of the downshift, the driver could experience an abrupt speed reduction that could cause the rear tires to slide or lock up. this condition could result in loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash. ford is aware of three reports of accidents and no injuries related to this condition.
4x4 automatically engiges into 4low with the switch set to 4high causing damage to the transfer case at higher speeds. the vehicle is supposed to be stopped and in neutral to engage low gear, but does it while driving.
Truck has a timing chain rattle and has had the same rattle for 28,000 miles, since i've owned the truck. it only happens when the truck has been sitting for an extended period. the rattle lasts from 2-10 seconds. i have videos of it happening in my driveway, after a cold start. dealer refuses to fix it because it doesn't happen after i drive it to them and they start it. tsb-14-0194, tsb 16-0027, tsb- 15-0131. all 3 tsbs have the same results. i have shown the dealer my videos nd the service advisor told me "no problem we can get it fixed", only to find out he dealer refuses to fix it until they can get the truck to do it for them, under their care. the tsb states that if the owner hears the rattle the dealer is to fix it.
As one is coming to a complete stop and even as one slowly comes out of a complete stop it feels like the power pops into the gear. the bump is only felt the moment just before a complete stop and the moment of coming out of complete stop. the popping happens 80% of the time while coming to a complete stop but 100% of the time while accelerating out of a compleate stop. has not happened at all while driving through the other gears.
Transmission may not go into reverse or when the driver pushes the shift lever in the reverse 'r' position and the vehicle's transmission does go in reverse, the 'r' may not illuminate on the dashboard of the f-150. the backup lamp on the rear of the vehicle may not illuminate. this was a previous recall for this year model but i have been told my truck was not affected. every symptom descrided is exactly what is happening to my vehicle. any time i put the vehicle in reverse the "r" on the dash does not light up and it takes approx.5-10 seconds for the vehicle to go in to the reverse gear at which time a yellow wrench appears on the dash. the reverse lights do not come on and the reverse camera does not activate. after the wrench appears the transmission will not recognize any gear. i have to shut the truck completely off and restart for drive to function correctly.
On 1 april 2017 at approximately 12:00 pm the vehicle was merging onto the highway when a loud thud was heard and the vehicle suddenly began to decelerate. the operator applied pressure to the gas pedal and noticed the rpms on the tachometer reach approximately 5k to 6k with no acceleration, as if the vehicle had shifted into neutral even though the console showed 6th gear. the operator removed pressure to the gas pedal and gradually reapplied pressure to the gas pedal but rpms again reached 5k to 6k with no acceleration. after approximately 10 to 15 seconds of coasting on the highway the vehicle regained normal acceleration. this seems to be a transmission issue that has the potential to result in a rear-end collision at highway speeds. the vehicle had approximately 91,000 miles and the weather was 36 f with mixed precipitation at the time of the incident. the operator notes that the vehicle's transmission was replaced at approximately 89,000 miles after previously reported nhtsa complaint number 10970618. the transmission had been serviced once subsequent to its replacement for a hard shift between 2nd and 3rd gear which was reportedly resolved by the dealership with a software update. prior to this incident, the vehicle had still been experiencing the hard shift between 2nd and 3rd gear.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle downshifted into first gear and the driveshaft was on the floor. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the driveshaft was replaced. the vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist to have the transmission replaced. the contact received a recall notification for nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train) in march of 2019. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 104,887.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 45 mph, the vehicle shifted from fifth to second gear automatically without warning. the vehicle was taken to the dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the failure mileage was 92,000.
