We have classified the 495 complaints from 2011 Ford F-150 about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
Vehicle downshifts while driving abruptly and without cause. this has occurred at highway and city speeds as well as with and without a trailer in tow. the front end still is all over the road, following tire replacement, brake replacement and alignment.
The truck will be in 5 or 6 gear and throw its self down into 3rd gear with out warning .
Traveling at 50 mph i had a sudden down shift from 6th gear down to 1st gear. the back wheels locked up causing a skid. the line of traffic behind me suddenly had to break for me. fortunately there was space for me to pull to the side. i feel that this is a safety issue that should be taken care of by a recall.
The truck is having the transmission molded lead frame issue. today my wife was driving 75 on the highway when it downshifted into first gear causing the tires to lockup. prior to this, it has happened multiple times but at lower speeds. the gages will jump all over with speed and rpm. the gears would also jump all over. i posted a video on youtube. https://youtu.be/df0db7rampi this has happened most days since the initial occurance
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 55 mph, the vehicle went into limp mode and all power was lost. the contact stated that a wrench warning indicator illuminated during the failure. the vehicle was able to coast to the side of the roadway. the contact restarted the engine, but the vehicle would not move. the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and then to roberts motor, inc. (4350 n alby st, alton, il 62002, (618) 466-72220). the dealer diagnosed that the active lead frame and transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was in the process of being repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not included in a recall. the contact was referred to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 114,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. upon shifting from park into drive, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle stalled. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the valve body needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the dealer and manufacturer were not notified. the failure mileage was approximately 57,000.
Clunky transmission at start of acceleration and when coming to a stop. happened at about 40k miles. under warranty dealer removed drive shaft and greased splines. same thing happened at 90k miles. this led to total transmission failure at 92k miles when the sealed transmission began to lose ability to properly downshift. transmission had developed leakduring long trip which was not detectable. transmission temperature read normal throughout the driving even when trans failed. vehicle service on transmission is not until 150k miles and vehicle has no dip stick to check level or quality of fluid. now i'm stuck with a $5k bill to replace transmission with a rebuilt unit. i get that it is no longer under warranty but a design that has no way to check fluid and a design that requires greasing the drive shaft spline to stop binding of shaft to transmission should not be allowed with no recourse for the consumer.
Our ford f150 has manifested several dangerous factory malfunctions as other vehicles with the same make, model and year. there are at least 4 ford recalls / customer satisfaction program extensions that our truck should be entitled to but isn't. we need help with getting ford to cover the cost of repairing our vehicle under at least one of the following recalls: ' recall number 16v24800 power train automatic transmission ' recall number 11v582000 power train automatic transmission ' recall number 12v190000 power train: auto trans: control module (tcm, pcm) ' recall number 10v659000 structure body (internal short / fire hazard) ' customer satisfaction program warrantee extension 16s19 we are forced to keep our truck off the road until we can afford a few thousand to replace the powertrain control module software, lead frame and possibly transmission. the truck spontaneously shifts into lower gears when driving at about 20-55 miles per hour. this causes the truck to hesitate in the middle of the road when driving. it simultaneously makes a 'honk' sound. there were a few occasions where the truck shifted into park when i hit the breaks or it shifted into reverse when i intended to go into drive. clearly issues with the transmission and the vacuum pump pose serious safety hazards to our family and other people. we would greatly appreciate help in getting ford to extend some of the manufacture warrantees and recalls to our ford f150 so that we could return to using our family/work truck safely. we thank you in advance for any good advice or help that you may have to offer.

Sudden downshift from 6th gear to 2nd gear while traveling at 60mph. engine rpms jumped up very high, tires squealed and the truck slowed very sudden and unexpectedly causing unsafe conditions. ford dealer could not replicate the problem or find any fault codes.
I own a 2011 ford f150 eco boost. this truck has started hard shifting up and down in my trasmission. taken to the local ford dealer and cost me around 80 bucks to tell me they can't find any problem with the diagnostics. driving it they tell me i need another transmission which will cost me 4700.00. what is the problem with ford lately???? i don't have this amount of money just lying around!!! i need my transmission fixed. there is a recall on 6r80 transmissions but when i talked to someone they tell me it's not on mine!! this is entirely unacceptable!! if one has a problem then all of them should be recalled to have this problem fixed!! who do i have to call to get some answers??? i am 62 years old and don't have a butt load of money to repair this truck. my question is, is the ford company going to? or did i need to buy a chevy next time??? all of this happens when driving the truck.
Sudden downshift from higher gear to 1st gear while driving. this has happened twice in the last week. both times the vehicle was already in motion in a straight line. the first time it was in 3rd gear and downshifted into 1st at about 30 mph while trying to accelerate. the second time it was in 5th gear going downhill and the transmission shuddered then dropped into 1st gear at about 40mph. both times the engine rpm spiked and it was necessary to immediately pull over out of traffic until the transmission reset itself.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the check engine indicator illuminated. the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train), but the contact stated that the transmission slipped after the repair. the vehicle was not taken back to the dealer for further diagnostic testing or repairs. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 157,000. *tt updated 9/21/18*jb
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the transmission would erroneously downshift to first gear, causing the vehicle to abruptly reduce speed. during the failure, the instrument panel indicators flashed and various warning messages displayed. the vehicle was towed to sam galloway ford lincoln (1800 boy scott rd, fort myers, fl) where it was diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was offered. the failure mileage was 80,000.
Transmission will suddenly and intermittently shift from drive to low which causes and sudden down shift causing a very loud noise. i have had the truck into the ford dealership four times and the truck still downshifts without notice. this occurs on any city street asphalt or on a dirt semi improved road in motion. i am concerned because while towing a travel trailer the truck may downshift and cause the truck and trailer to jack knife injuring or killing the occupants ford has acknowledged problems but the final fix remains elusive. ford should replace the eight speed with a new 10 speed transmission. a class action lawsuit should ensue.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle downshifted into first gear on its own. when the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road, turned off and restarted the engine, it operated normally. the contact stated that the failure occurred approximately five times in the past couple of months. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (kenny ross ford in irwin, pennsylvania, 724-864-3601), but the failure could not be duplicated. the contact also stated that the vehicle was repaired per an unknown recall for the power train software update approximately one year ago. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and case number: cas14909702 was opened. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 36,000.
Driving 70 mph when 2011 ford f-150 while driving in cruise control with a/c on lost all power..........and a tool displayed on dash. i was able to pull over on-side of interstate luckily.......turned off vehicle waited a few minutes and re-started with no further issues. i'm concerned this is similar to other issues ford products have been having. need answers before your vehicle hurts my family!!!
While driveing on a state rout started to pass a tractor trailer when from 65 mph in 6th gear it shifted to 1st great slid the rear tires thought i was going to look control slid the tires at first thought i ripped the rear end out got the truck off the road and settled my nerves shut it off was going to call a wrecker restarted it to get off the interstate and it shifted and ran fine had issues with it shifting for months finally took to a ford dealer and they found an issue with the transmission replace some electrical parts now it's fine seen an issue with other f150 wonder why my truck wouldn't be covered also when it would act up i would shut it off wait a minute then restart would be fine then every day it acted up till it scared me to drive it
The transmission will intermittently, either not shift out of 1st gear, or even worse, it will downshift from a higher gear back into 1st. this occurs while the truck is in motion on surface streets and highway on ramps.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 50 mph, the contact noticed that the engine rpms began to change and the vehicle automatically downshifted into first gear. the contact pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road. when the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, it operated normally. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (bill hood ford lincoln, 1500 n morrison blvd, hammond, la 70401) where it was diagnosed that the failure was caused by the lead frame, which had an extended warranty for up to 150,000 miles. the contact was unable to receive the repair due to the vehicle having 156,000 miles. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact of the same information as the dealer. the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the vehicle had not been repaired. the failure mileage was 156,000.

The speed odometer jumps around and the gears change sporadically. after having this check by my mechanic, they feel that it is the power train control module and speed sensor. they found a recall for this model f150 but it did not include the date of build on my vehicle. recall 16s19. it is dangerous because you don't have any notice as to when it might act up and you loose power without any warning. it happens when driving on whywayans side streets, high and low speeds. it feels as if the gear is dropped from 5th to 1st and back.
Similar to 16s19 recall. my truck was not included. my truck has experienced exactly what the description for the recall states. it downshifted abruptly at no warning. sudden kick in switching gears.
The ford f-150 with a 6r80 transmission was down shifting while drivingi it. had to have it repaired by ford. they said there was no recall on this transmission. ther has been trouble with this transmission. several times the alst 2 years
Air handler diverter switch burnt out causing fire at 35000 miles, power train idles high at stops trying to go, at down shift when slowing it jerks very badly truck has only 40000 miles on it. these are ongoing problems for many miles
While driving on the interstate at 70 mph my speed information screen showed the wrench and the transmission down shifted to a lower gear. i had to pull off the interstate and restart the vehicle after waiting a few minutes. after i restarted the vehicle the check engine light and wrench went out. subsequent problems have been the transmission will not shift out of gear and the information screen shows the wrench. my local mechanic said the following p codes were present, p0720 and p0722 and advised there was a recall for my specific transmission. when i called ford they said that even though my transmission was experiencing the same problems as those under recall my specific transmission was not on the recall list.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact received a recall letter from ford motors. the nhtsa campaign number was unknown. the contact stated that the transmission sensor was replaced at glockner southpoint ford (155 co rd 406, south point, oh 45680, (740) 894-3673) in february of 2018 per the recall. while driving 50 mph, the transmission downshifted and the vehicle slowed down without depressing the brake pedal. a wrench symbol and the check engine indicator illuminated prior to the failure. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and the transmission sensor was replaced again. it was unknown if the manufacturer was contacted. the failure mileage was 75,000.
When driving, usually between 20-30 mph, my transmission will abruptly switch gears. when this happens, it is very loud and violently jerks the entire vehicle. this has been happening randomly since i purchased the truck in 2012 w/ roughly 9k miles on it. it feels like i have been rear-ended by another vehicle. on two separate occasions, i have had two different people in my truck (unfamiliar with the issue), and when it happened, they instantly asked, 'did we just get rear-ended?'
Transmission jumps in and out of gear with no apparent relation to vehicles speed or throttle position. if the transmission decides to drop into 1st at sufficient speed to lock the drive wheels this is terrifying and inherently dangerous. ford knows this condition exists on 6r80 transmissions but seems unwilling to widen the recall. maybe someone needs to die before they address this. its a miracle this hasn't lead to a loss of life incident yet.

Erratic shifting during my drive to work. into first very hard. this happened at 35mph on the exit ramp.
The vehicle shifts into 1st gear without warning at highway speed. it has happened 3 times in the last week and i have gotten no help from the dealership or ford motor company.
The timing chain of the 3.5l ecoboost fails at approximately 80,000 miles. the failure is a result of a stretched timing chain and causes a lack of power and acceleration.
While driving my transmission will suddenly downshifted to first gear. no rhyme or reason. the last time it happened i was probably going 35 to 40mph. it threw everyone in the cabin forward like we hit something in the road. it has happened multiple times and is getting worse. i have spoken to ford and informed them about the similarities of a recall on the same problem but ford states my vin number does not fall into the category because it was built in their canadian plant.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle would downshift hard unexpectedly to first gear. the contact experienced the failure numerous times. there were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the failure. the vehicle was taken to the dealer (campbell ford, 400 n 20th st, ozark, mo 65721), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 16v24800 (power train), but the vin was not included in the recall. the manufacturer was notified and case number: 14223874 was opened. the failure mileage was 145,000.

My 2011 f150 would hesitate from a stop position to 1st gear ( jerking action),and now it down shifts to 1st gear while driving down highway and the gauges stop working. then when you pull over and turn truck off to try to reset anything it stays in 5th gear when you take off and the wrench and check engine light comes on. we recieved a recall for it( 16s19) had the recall preformed on feb 27 2018 and 4 days later it started doing the exact same thing.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 65 mph, the vehicle shifted into first gear. the wheels locked, and the abs engaged. the vehicle was taken to a local dealer (lake view ford, 12381 conneaut lake rd, conneaut lake, pa 16316), but the failure could not be duplicated. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the issue and opened case number: cas-14072276. the contact was informed that the local dealer could use their pas to assist with repair fees, but no further assistance was provided. the failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Tl* the contact owns a ford f-150. the contact states the transmission was malfunctioning by rapidly shifting to a lower gear while travelling at highway speeds 45 to 50 mph. the contact had to quickly slam on the brakes brakes and pull over to the side of the road. the manufacturer stated simply that the vehicle was not included in a recall so they would not cover the repairs. the dealer had not been contacted. the failure mileage mileage was 80,000. tf
Unexpected transmission downshift on january 31, 2018. while driving on i 70 heading towards kansas city, mo from independence, mo, my f-150 unexpectedly shifted into first gear while i was driving at 65 mph. there was a large tractor trailer behind my truck that almost slammed into the back of my vehicle when my truck slammed into first gear. the tractor trailer swerved into the high-speed lane to avoid running into the back of my truck. no injuries or collisions occurred. i pulled over immediately and noticed that there was transmission fluid leaking from the front of my transmission. i called for a tow truck and had my vehicle taken to the ford dealership in blue springs, mo. the dealership informed me that my vin was not one of the transmissions that had been recalled under the ford customer satisfaction program 16n02. according to the recall letter, it should have been recalled, since my vehicle was built on june 28, 2011, which falls within the time frame stated in the recall. this recall also covers the power train for unexpected down shifts for 10 years or 150,000. since the vehicle was thrown into a low gear at a high speed, it is suspected that the excessive pressure created blew out the torque convertor and front seal of the transmission. the dealership will not request guidance from corporate ford on this issue and is requesting $5,550 for a re-manufactured transmission that should be covered under their extended warranty.
When accelerating from stoplight transmission would not up shift from first gear and speedometer indicated zero.
While moving, usually accelerating, the vehicle shifts gears at random, often from high speed (5th or 6th gear) down to a low gear, then back to higher gear, then back to lower gear, etc. this can happen several times. while this is happening the speedometer bounces from 0 to actual speed. while this is happening the vehicle experiences bouncy, lurching movement. this has happened multiple times while driving on city streets & county highways. has happened while turning and while driving in a straight line.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving in reverse at unknown speeds, the reverse indicator did not illuminate and the back up camera failed to respond. the transmission warning indicator also illuminated. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired, the manufacturer was not notified. the failure mileage was 71,986.
