We have classified the 495 complaints from 2011 Ford F-150 about POWER TRAIN into the following categories.
While driving, normal conditions, vehicle drops from higher gears to 1st gear. rear tires locked up, speedometer went crazy. checked code p0720. happened multiple occasions. latest incident, transmission made hard shift, speedometer, odometer and mpg indicator all went dead and the "wrench" icon appeared on the dash display. read codes, came up with p0720 and p0722. after restarting, all gauges worked. vehicle was drivable with caution. researched recall notices, found 16n02 "molded leadframe extended warrantee", but it only covers f150's manufactured on certain dates at certain plants. my transmission is the same type and model number....6r80 as all f150 ecoboost made in 2011 and 2012. i called ford and they stated my vin did not show up under any recalls, and i was not covered because of "stipulations". i cannot comprehend that ford will only cover certain criteria, even though the transmission is the same at all manufacturing locations. if a transmission model is faulty, it is faulty regardless of where or when it was installed in the vehicle. i am sure i am not the only one with this issue, and find it disturbing that ford will allow these vehicles to remain on the road without them fixing them, or worse still, passing off the cost to the owners, many of whom cannot easily fork out the money or time to have them fixed at their expense. this is totally wrong and needs to be addressed as soon as possible. these vehicles with this malfunction occurring are not safe to drive.
2011 ford f150 lead frame in transmission recall'. i was driving down the interstate when my speedometer dropped to 0, my mileage indicator was showing all dashes ------- and the transmission was stuck in gear someone between 2nd and 5th and my truck started slowing very quickly on its own. i pulled off to the side of the road and disconnected my battery to see if it would reset the readings. which was unsuccessful. after calling ford directly i was told my vin # was not included in the recall that was noted in some other research i had done. i was told in order for it to even be considered it had to be diagnosed at a certified ford service station. i took my truck in today and was told that it is the exact issue that was in the recall but my vin was not covered under the recall, even though my truck was the same exact year and manufactured in the exact same place where some of vins were recalled. this is a very dangerous issue and i am grateful i was not rear ended on the interstate as a result of the sudden drop in speed. i want to be included in the request to have ford broaden the recall that obviously my truck should be included in. if you need additional information please don't hesitate to reach out. ivoq n n n n 65 v n n
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the vehicle downshifted and the rear wheels seized. in addition, the rpm gauge decreased to zero and the wrench symbol illuminated. the local dealer was not contacted. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the failure mileage was 181,000.
My 2011 ford f150 3.5 l ecoboost has suffered a problematic output shaft speed sensor issue (error code p0722) where my truck will suddenly downshift to 1st gear. the speedometer shows me going 'zero' and the odometer shows dashes instead of the mileage. a couple times i was going highway speeds when the downshift happened causing a lot of concern for my family's safety! i researched this and learned there was a recall for this problem but only if the truck was manufactured in dearborn or kansas city, which mine was not. (tsb13-6-8) my mechanic now tells me that this problem has grown, that i now need a new transmission. he quoted me $7,500 to fix this. i don't have the money but don't have a choice but to get it fixed. if this problem was only in the two fore-mentioned factories, then why did i suffer the same issue? that makes no sense. i suspect the problem is more widespread then just trucks from dearborn or kc.... i need help, ford!
Vehicle downshifts from high speeds down to 1st or 2nd gear while driving at higher speeds. this causes rapid deceleration and high rpms. also at times the transmission will also neutral out and i have no control over acceleration.
2011 f-150 pick up has had 3 episodes of suddenly downshifting to first gear in highway speed & in town. nearly caused an accident. exactly as described in recall (16v248000), it has been towed to the dealer; absolutely unsafe to drive. ford customer service told me it would not be included in the recall. dealer wants $1400 to "fix" the problem.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the transmission failed to shift into reverse when prompted. also, the "r" indicator did not illuminate on the instrument panel. al bilton ford (7621 old state rd, holly hill, sc 29059, 1-803-496-3150) was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v190000 (power train, exterior lighting); however, the vehicle exhibited the same failure as listed in the recall. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 70,000. *tt consumer stated vehicle was repaired *jb
Evidently as you all are probably aware, the 2011 f-150 6r80 transmission was recalled on a lot of trucks. the speed sensor or trans range sensor or lead frame is was/bad so a satisfaction program was initially made 'one free lead frame' offered for under 10 years or 150k miles . now there is no recall on my truck but a. it's 2011 b. it was produced from the kansas plant, one of two plants which initiated the recall. c. the infamous p0705 code is reading. pretty much what i'm getting at is my head ache of a truck deserves a recall evaluation, at the very least a new lead frame please contact me asap. i think my truck slipped through the cracks and it needs fixing! by the way this causes my truck to drop to low gears(innapropriate gears) at high speeds and causes it to not work at all at times!!!
Bad transmission leadframe assembly as previously identified by ford in a recall causing vehicle to lose power at 65mph requiring vehicle to be stopped and restarted; ford has identified issue as 16v-248 but told me that my vehicle missed the campaign as my vehicle build date was 11 days prior to their recall dates; however, my vehicle was built at same plant (dearborn) and had same identical error codes for problem; ford rep at 866-436-7332 told me that although problem seems the same nothing can be covered; to resolve cost me $751.27. always occurred while vehicle in motion.
While driving 60mph on the interstate the vehicle suddenly downshifted to 1st gear causing the rear wheels to lock up and send it into an uncontrolable skid.
I have 3 issues to report: 1. the oss output speed sensor manufacturer recall number 19s07 in november 2018 i was sitting at a red light i went to go when the light changed and the truck felt like it was going to stall i tried to get to the side of the road and then the truck seemed to go into gear and seemed fine no warning lights or anything 8 hours later on my way home from work the powertrain malfunction light came on wrench light i stopped and had it checked codes 0720 and 0722 came up output speed sensor i took it to my shop where they gave me the technical service bulletin and told me to take it to a ford service center which i did they ran another diagnostic and said they found the transmission lead frame faulty and charged me $1526.00 and now i find out there is a recall for this issue. 2. tsb15-0061 windshield wipers continue to operate in low intermittent when the switch is in the off position. installed new wiper/multifunction switch twice and still have the problem. 3. the same time my wipers started acting up my horn stopped working both when you push down on the horn switch on the steering column and when you go to set the alarm. i asked the service mechanics about this and i was told it could be the (bcm) body control module ford is recalling some bcm in ford f150 but doesnt show up when i put my vin number in.

Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while attempting to drive the vehicle, it failed to drive in reverse and the check engine warning indicator illuminated. in addition, when the gear shifter was in the drive position, it failed to display on the instrument panel. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission sensor failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 130,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle downshifted in the middle of traffic, decelerated and lost power. when the contact applied more pressure to the accelerator pedal, the engine shuddered and the vehicle hesitated violently. also, the check engine and multiple unknown warning indicators illuminated. afterwards, the vehicle returned to normal; however, the failure recurred the next time the vehicle was driven. the vehicle was taken to rodeo ford (13680 w test dr, goodyear, az 85338) where it was diagnosed that the computer needed to be reprogrammed. the vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. the contact took the vehicle back to the dealer and was informed to drive the vehicle two hundred miles. the contact complied and the transmission failed again. the vehicle was taken back to the dealer a third time where it was determined that a tune up was needed. the contact performed the tune up himself and the vehicle failed again. the manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. the failure mileage was 171,600.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle shifted into the wrong gear and lost power. an unknown warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. the contact shut off the vehicle and it would not restart. the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who replaced an electronic sensor inside the transmission, but the failure recurred. the vehicle was taken to speedway ford (1710 n expy, griffin, ga 30223, (888) 324-4186) where it was diagnosed that the valve body of the transmission was leaking and losing pressure. the dealer also stated that the computer needed to be replaced. the valve was replaced, but the failure recurred. the computer was in the process of being reprogrammed and may need to be replaced. the failure mileage was 136,000.
Truck will be driving at speeds of 50 mph or higher, and the speedometer will wave back and forth and drop to 0. transmission tries to compensate and downshifts drastically causing a very hard shift and slow down in traffic. then the speedometer will go back to normal speed. very easily could be rear-ended in a heavy traffic situation. have taken to two different ford dealers over the last month who say the same thing, that it should receive a molded leadframe replacement, but my vin is not listed in the recall (16n02). my vin matches the same year, make, model, manufacturing plant, and manufacturing dates with the recall. i understand that there may be different parts, but it is my firm belief that some vehicles were left out of the recall. even when ford employees are saying the fix is the same as those issued in the recall. very big safety issue, and to charge someone $1,800 when it should be replaced for free, is beyond sad.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle independently downshifted into first gear, which caused an abrupt reduction in speed. also, the gear would occasionally remain in neutral and would not properly change over. an independent mechanic was contacted. months later, after the failure had been experienced intermittently, the contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v075000 (power train), but the part was not available. red mccombs ford (8333, i-10, san antonio, tx 78230, (210) 996-2678) was notified and a diagnostic appointment was scheduled. the manufacturer was contacted. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was unknown. parts distribution disconnect.
Excluded from recall for defective transmission leadframe. this vehicle dangerously shifts abruptly to a lower gear at highway speeds.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while shifting from reverse into drive, the transmission became stuck in fifth gear and the vehicle would not accelerate properly. in addition, the service wrench indicator illuminated. while driving in reverse, the reverse lights would not illuminate and the back-up camera would not display. the vehicle was taken to the local dealer (sanders ford, 1135 lejeune blvd, jacksonville, nc) where it was diagnosed that the transmission range sensor and transmission lead frame were faulty and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. the contact was informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v190000 (power train). the contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. the failure mileage was 134,000.
Wet roads doing 45 to 50 mph and in a flash truck decided to go about 5 mph truck went sideways into the on coming traffic lanes then the truck went only 5 mph and i had a computer check on it and said the 6r80 transmission is bad and ford has a recall on this transmission 2011/2012 but not my truck it was built in nov 10 2010 but it the same problem everyone else is having and it dangerous
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 50 mph, the vehicle downshifted into first gear without warning. the contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. the failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
Driving 80 mph on toll road service light come on for a second and went off dropped into 5th gear truck speedometer read 0 mph pulled over turned off truck started back up ran fine until i got home
Trans 6r80 was recalled but not for my tk due to the fact it was made in different ford location being dearborn mi. the truck won't go in reverse, wrench light comes on,when it finally does its stuck in gear. have to turn truck off to restart and then it will go in gear. took to ford dealership for diagnostic. cause were in codes.. p0705, p0731, p1702, p1921, pinpoint test c p0705.nec to replace lead frame in transmission.it should not matter what trans shop it was made at if it's doing same thing and poses a safety hazard on the highway at 70 miles per hour. discovered the problem in a slow construction zone and needed to back up. this tk should of been in recall. same sr80 trans as ones recalled.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 70 mph, the service engine indicator illuminated and the vehicle independently shifted into reverse. the vehicle was taken to todd judy ford east (7891 maccorkle ave, charleston, wv 25315, (304) 925-0431) where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was contacted. the approximate failure mileage was 203,869.
Car would be driving normal, and speedometer would drop off, dropping to 0 mph. upon which time, the transmission would try and compensate, and downshift hard to match the speed. speedometer would then go back up to normal speed and transmission would shift back. matches identical issues with 16n02, but my vin (despite being the same year, make, model, and manufactured during the same time frame and at the same plant as the others) did not show this as a recall.
I was driving about 45 mph and transmission shifts into low gear causing back tires to lock up and it was raining which resulted in a little spin out
Leaving driveway, started to accelerate up slight incline on subdivision street and truck unexpectedly jumped from 1st gear to 5th and then suddenly downshifted to 1st gear causing vehicle to lurch forward as speed rapidly decreased to near idle speed. seems to occur when vehicle shifts from 1st to 2nd, because if the truck is put back into park it will start to drive in first and when it shifts to 2nd it immediately jumps to 5th and repeats the above.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving at unknown speeds, the vehicle downshifted to first gear and the rear wheels seized. in addition, the check engine indicator illuminated. the contact called the local dealer (al bilton ford, 7621 old state road, holly hill, sc 29059, 877-722-7214) and was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 15747379. the failure mileage was 130,000. the vin was not available.
The truck looses power while driving down the road. most of the time i have been driving as a slow rate of speed 20-35 mph. the engine continues to run and the wrench light comes on the dash. the transmission receives no power and the truck will only coast forward . immediate solution is to pull over, shut the engine off and restart. the truck then has power. the problem may repeat itself within miles or it may not repeat for days/weeks. this happen 18 months ago, 4 months ago, and 2 days ago.
For the past couple months, i have been dealing with my truck downshifting on its own. the first time it happened, i was going 60 mph and it seemingly went from 6th gear down to 1st or 2nd making the truck feel like it had hit something and lost power. it didnt happen again for a month and a half and now happens more and more often. diagnostics show it may be a output shaft speed sensor issue. i contacted ford and they said there was indeed a recall but mine was from the wrong factory and was not included. same issue as everyone else, but my factory didn't get included? convenient for ford, it seems. i have spoken to several mechanics and no one really wants to take it on, it seems... go see a transmission shop one guy says... frustrating and rather scary when it happens at highway speeds. i am wondering if more trucks should have been included in the recall. tsb 13-6-8. ?
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. the contact stated that the gear shifter became stuck when the vehicle was in reverse. when the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it operated normally. also, while driving at low speeds, the transmission slipped. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the transmission range sensor and transmission fluid were added, including a new filter. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. the dealer was not notified. the failure mileage was 138,000. *dt*jb

Vehicle chooses when to pick up speed vehichle jerks (trying to change gears) odometer stops reading vehichle jerks comes to an immediate down shift (stop) vehichle does this in motion and it can be at any rate of speed
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle downshifted to first gear on its own. the contact pulled over and shut the vehicle off for approximately two minutes. once restarted, the vehicle operated normally. the failure occurred seven times last week. the vehicle was taken to empire ford of new bedford (395 mt pleasant street, new bedford, ma 02746) where it was diagnosed that the output speed sensor was defective and forced the vehicle to downshift to first gear. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 150,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving 60 mph, the gear independently shifted into first gear, causing the contact to veer off the road. the contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred approximately four times. the vehicle was taken to bob bell ford (7125 ritchie hwy, glen burnie, md 21061, (888) 878-8045) where it was diagnosed with lead frame failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there were no recalls associated with the vin. the contact was referred to nhtsa to file a complaint. the failure mileage was 105,000.
I recently looked up any recalls involved with my vehicle. the first that came up was the transmission recall for f150 of my year. to be honest i only looked it up because my truck shifted from 4th to 1st while i was driving at about 35mph. the second time this happened i was leaving a golf course and the truck was shifting from 1st to 3rd and back to 1st again. also the speedometer was going crazy on both occurrences, jumping 20mph at some points while i know i was only going about 15mph. the vehicle was in motion both times at low city street speeds.
While driving my 2011 f150 i got of i99 at the tyrone exit. while slowing to a stop at about 35 mph the truck shifted from 5thgear to 1st which cause the wheels to squawk and slide almost causing me to lose control, i pulled over in the bk parking lot shut it off an restarted once i put it in gear to drive it showed i was in 5th gear so i shut it off again waited a few minutes s td started it again and this time it was in 3rd so i repeated. the next time it was in first so i drove home the back roads to be safe as i got up to speed it started to act up again the speedometer show i was going 0mph but i was going 25mph again the truck slammed in an out of gear i took it to my local ford deal they diagnosed it as a lead frame hope this fixes the problem as i'm scared to drive my truck. i do have videos of when its acting up but i cant figure out how to upload them.
On hghway transmission jerks when placing in reverse or drive also on road feels like it is pulling back like it wants to go in lower gear...'.also back door not closed on dash reading (electrical) miles on truck is 103000
Ford has a recall(16s19) on 2011-2012 f-150 trucks but according to my vin my truck is not affected. on occasions my i have experienced these problems associated with the recall. what do i do?
While vehicle in motion, started to lose acceleration and jerk, lost all power while driving uphill on major road in traffic and indicator panel displayed wrench. per owners manual appears to be transmission failure and truck is in 'limp home' mode, will need tow. truck is 2011 ford f150, lariat with v6 ecoboost turbo. mileage is only 64k, truck is lightly used, has never been driven hard, otherwise in excellent condition.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving various high speeds on an incline, the transmission's gear shifting ability malfunctioned. the contact stated that there was a loss of acceleration and the speedometer decreased to zero. the contact stated that the wrench icon illuminated. the contact restarted the vehicle to correct the failure. the dealer (viva ford, 5550 n desert blvd, el paso, texas 79912, (915) 834-2800) diagnosed that the plastic lead frame, foam seal, bulkhead connector, and oil pan gasket within the transmission needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in any recalls. the failure mileage was 166,000.
Tl* the contact owns a 2011 ford f-150. while driving at low speeds, the rear wheels seized. the vehicle was taken to an unknown ford dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission control module failed. the vehicle was not repaired. the contact also mentioned that the vehicle may have downshifted during the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 16v248000 (power train). the failure mileage was 108,642.

Takata recall'- our truck keeps shifting into several gears causing the truck to pull back hard and unable to drive on highway due to shifting changes which can't be controlled by the driver.
Truck shifted from 5th gear to 1st gear. caused truck to slide and then gauges failed. pulled to side of road and cut engine off. restarted and transmission shifted fine. truck does this about every two days. this was on a straight highway.
While driving the truck, it has begun to ride choppy when accelerating at around 40-mph and 60-mph. the choppy performance goes away when hard accelerating (putting the gas pedal to the floor) at those speeds, but the transmission warning light comes on when continuously doing this at 60-mph. the truck starts to lose power and does not shift, nor ride smoothly at the speeds; the front of the vehicle begins to shimmy. this has mainly occurred on the highways, where the speed limit is higher, but the problems has also occurred on side streets. it occurs only when accelerating, not in deceleration.
P0705 transmission range sensor input failure. ford says there are zero recalls on this vin ever.
Beginning approximately 9 months ago, when i purchased this vehicle, it began suffering sudden down shifts. at highway speeds it would suddenly drop into third gear, or first gear, very dramatic! very scary! sometimes it would get stuck in first gear when i pulled away from a stop sign and, while in heavy traffic, i had to find a way to pull over and shut off the car and restart it to clear this fault. sometimes the fault would not clear when i restarted the truck. this began happening more and more frequently and i was very concerned for the safety and well-being of my family, wife and two children. we purchased this as a family and work truck and suddenly we felt our lives were in danger driving it. i learned there was a recall on 2011 f-150s for this very problem but was told my particular truck was not covered in this recall. no reason was given. i opted to pay for the repair myself and it solved the problem. that was a little over a month ago and we have not had a single recurrence of the fault since i paid for the repair. during a phone call with ford motor company i was promised by their employee shay, employee number to 19116 3, that for it would be fully covering my repair. cas - 17206 574 they did cover a repair number one nine s07, but the mechanic in charge at valley ford in kalispell montana told me i needed 16 n 02. once 16 n02 had been performed my truck no longer has suffered any downshift or transmission errors. it is my belief that my truck and many like it should be included in the 16n02 recall. thank you for your time.
2011 ford f-150 lariat 5.0. 132,000 miles. 16n02 ' molded leadframe extended coverage ' 2011-2012 ford & lincoln. my f-150 built in january 2011 at kansas city assembly is not covered by the current extended warranty coverage due to the range of months covered in 2011. my truck downshifted while driving.the wrench indicator illuminated and the truck would only go into 5th gear after i stopped and cycled the key. when driving to the dealership in limp mode, it downshifted again and was stuck in 3rd gear. dealer is replacing the lead frame, electrical sleeve, and the necessary filter, fluid, and pan gasket. they admit it is the same issue as the tsb but i am not covered. ford customer service was unwilling to help. lucky for me this issue happened on a back road close to home. it is obvious this is a known defect and i would like to see the current coverage extended to include all affected vehicles. ford should not be making money in the service lane off this defective transmission safety issue. i don't just feel that myself and others should be reimbursed. i know we should.
My 2011 ford f150 lariat 5.0l has 100,000 miles at which time i began having issues with erratic transmission shifting. t has happened multiple times both at high speeds and low speeds. truck will downshift and transmission jumps all over the place. very scary and very unsafe. i was able to get the error code which was p0720 output shaft speed sensor circuit. i checked my vin and did not find any recalls associated with my truck. i called multiple ford dealers who told me the same thing. i searched the internet and read on edmonds.com, cars.com, and nhtsa that ford has a recall effecting 2011 ford f150s with the 6r80 transmission built between aug 19th, 2011 and march 09, 2012. mine was built with the 6r80 transmission with a build date of sep 6th, 2011. based on what i read and the similar issues with the recall i find it hard to believe my truck is not included. i cannot safely drive so i called ford customer care and opened case# caf15213386. i then took my truck to a ford dealer to have the fix applied which was to update the powertrain control module software costing me $180. i was then told this would not solve my problem. to solve my problem i needed to replace my lead frame which would cost $1300 but they can't get me in until next week. the recall notice i read indicated the pcm software would be no cost under the recall and if code presented itself ford would provide a one time replacement of the lead frame at no charge within 10 years or 150,000 miles. please investigate to see why my truck is not included in this recall. i will have the work done and save my receipts in hopes that i will be reimbursed after this case and ford case are resolved.
