Smelled gasoline odor inside vehicle after cranking on a cold day. i drove it for several miles. i parked it. i was in building for about 15 minutes. when i came out, i smelled gas outside vehicle. after leaving i then took vehicle to crossroads ford quicklane in cary nc. they found the plastic fuel line had split lenghtwise on top of fuel tank. they told me it was spraying gas. part was apparantly defective. i am sure it could have caused a major fire or explosion because of being not far from exhaust pipe. part replaced was 9l3z-9s278-b. i am wondering if there have been unexplained fires or explosions because of this. repair cost was $569.89
While driving on the highway the engine shut off. upon inspection, fuse #27 burned out instead of blowing. this fuse controls the fuel pump, and when it burned up the fuel pump lost power at highway speed. upon research it is a very common problem with the 2009-2014 year models and ford issued a tsb but not a recall. i hadn't known about this when purchasing the truck used, and it is a very serious safety issue.
The fpdm was going bad. the truck would shut off in the middle of driving. twice it died while turning and i couldn't steer. once almost had me in the back of a parked car. this cost me over 300 dollars to fix. it's only going bacd because the are mounted to the steel gram and the aluminum backing on the fpdm is pitting and water is getting in. this problem also made it difficult to start, and messed with my mpg.
Fuse block melting vehicle started ok. after traveling approx. 10 minutes i stopped turned vehicle off. upon returning to vehicle it failed to start. i then had vehicle towed to a ford dealer. ford dealers diagnosed it needed a fuse relocation kit tsb 15-0137 parts and labor approx. $350.00
Fuse 27 had failed turning off the vehicle. refer to tsb no. 15-0137 but ford has not recalled
11/29/18 will be the 6th time my engine shut off when coming to a stop and making a turn. other 5 incidents were about 3 years ago. each occasion, slowing down to a stop, engine shuts off while making a turn, and i put it in neutral while pressing brakes, starts up, and i keep going down the road. 122k miles, love the truck but this has me very concerned for my family riding in the truck. i looked up any recalls but did not find anything regarding this. f-150 forums have the exact same incidents and when taking to ford dealership, they cannot find anything wrong. please let me know my options of getting ford to do something.
Ive had the same problem now twice in a row with the fuel pump 20a fuel in the fuse box under the hood getting hot and melting then blowing the fuse. this fuse if it hadn't blown would have caught the fuse box on fire. ford makes a kit to bypass the tiny fuse to relicate it to a larger fuse in an open spot. there are multiple others in numerous forums who state they have had the same problem. ford has never issued a recall for this issue that can turn bad if the fuse does not pop.
Run out of gas gas guage reading is 50 mile to go all when engen get hot making kocking nosie
Ford f-150 will not start intermittently. the engine cranks but will not start. the issue has been identified with fuse #27 over heating but not blowing. fuse #27 is the fuse for the fuel pump diver module. the engine has not died on me while in motion though there are multiple other instances of individuals who have had their vehicle die on them. (https://www.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-c21953_ds740770) i worry that i won't be so lucky as to have the issue only happen while parked and it only be an inconvenience. ford has issued a tsb for 2009-2014 f-150s, tsb 15-0137 to relocate the fuse. i recommend nhtsa order ford to recall of all trucks possibly affected so this does not create an accident in the future.
Engine cranks but does not start one morning. found fried fuel pump fuse was the issue. not a blown fuse. a fried fuse. blackened and charred.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. after filling up the vehicle with fuel, the vehicle failed to restart. the contact attempted to start the vehicle for approximately 45 minutes before finally succeeding. the contact stated that the same failure occurred approximately six other times after the vehicle was refueled. the vehicle was not diagnosed by the dealer. the vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic where it was determined that the 20 amps fuel relay fuse and the high power relay were damaged and needed replacement. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 42,000.
My truck cranks but won't start. the fuse to the fuel pump relay was blown. i understand this is a problem with many truck owners and ford is offering a bypass kit for this system for $400-$500. shouldn't this be a recall if they're having to install a bypass kit?
After refueling vehicle will be hard to start, after repeated attempts and using gas pedal to force an idle it will start, problem only occurs again after refueling. this is coupled with sudden engine cut off at low speeds. dealer is clueless as to a fix for either. i consider the sudden shut off to be a major safety issue, particularly driving in mountains as i do.
Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving various speeds, the fuel field inlet indicator illuminated. five days later, the check engine indicator illuminated. the local dealer (all star ford 3800 century way pittsburgh, ca 94565) was called and informed the contact that the fuel field inlet failed and needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not taken to a dealer or repaired. the manufacturer stated that enough complaints had not been filed on that component to create a recall, and offered no further assistance. the failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
When truck has 1/4 or less fuel in the fuel tank it stalls and there is lost power. mostly happens when coming to a stop and when i make a turn after taking my foot from accelerator to brake . this is dangerous because all braking and steering is lost .while looking on the web there were many complaints about this .
Fuel pump relay fuse melted. 2010 f-150 2 wd v8, was driving and pulling a trailer (within the vehicle's parameters weight wise, i.e. not overloaded, and in fact it continued with the empty trailer) and the truck began stalling randomly, usually when going up a hill. this is very dangerous as i was hauling valuable horses up hilly roads at the time. i had it repaired at a local dealership (crain ford, little rock, arkansas 501-570-3737) which involved moving the fuse to a different spot. it seems to be acting up again after less than a week. i paid a lot of money to "fix" it and it needs to stay fixed!
My son was driving the truck with my older son also in the cab. my son that was driving noticed that the truck was losing speed and that nothing was happening when he pushed on the accelerator. he put the truck in park and smoke began filling the cab. they got out of the truck in a hurry and ran. the truck exploded 3 seconds later and burned completely. we are not certain what caused the fire, but it appears to be the fueling system
Our 2010 ford f-150 platinum truck caught fire while my husband was driving he had to jump out of the car to survive. it looks like the gas tank caught on fire and the entire truck was engulfed in flames and completely burned up in a few seconds. i have pictures of the burned out truck and a video of the last part of the fire.
The truck has had this issue since i've purchased the truck but can never duplicate the issue while at the dealership. the 1st time the engine would crank but would not fire. the second time, i was driving and the truck just stopped. i was lucky enough some passing by motorist helped to push it out of the intersection. 3rd time, the truck was parked and did not start. after troubleshooting the issue, the fuel pump relay fuse burned out. normally fuses just pop, this one just burned out to where i could not take out the fuse. took the truck to was bought at and after a few hours, the problem was located. the shop foreman stated that they have had alot of trucks go in with the same issue. only reason i making a complaint is due to that comment. it is a safety issue when i was driving and truck shuts off in the middle of the intersection. what if my sons were with me? hope this gets resolved and a recalled is made before something worse happens to someone else. thank you. *tr
2010 ford f150 with just over 60,000 miles. while driving, the vehicle fails and the engine shuts down entirely. this happens intermittently when the truck comes to a stop, but has also happened while driving casually at approximately 45 mph on city streets. this has happened multiple times. personal investigation has led to finding numerous reports online of the same or worse problems with this model/year of ford truck. research has lead to show that there seems to be a factory issue with the fuel/air system on the vehicle. numerous other reports online of the truck failing while driving and even causing accidents in some instances. this is a very serious safety issue as it endangers the lives of those in this vehicle as well as others on the roadway. a recall needs to be implemented immediately by the manufacturer to rectify this wrongdoing.
2010 ford f150 stalls when going slow, and turning left. the oil light came on and i lost all power i had to put in park and restart. took about 5 tries for the truck to restart. it did the same thing again about five minutes later while making another left turn. also, died when i was sitting at a light preparing to turn right.
The truck misses at an idle and we also had to have the drive shaft replaced.
Bought a used 2010 f-150 supercrew 4x4 5.4l 3v engine with 38,600 miles on it, first week it drove fine. but then. it stalled for the first time, and continued to do so, finally got a engine light, and replaced o2 sensors, didn't help, now dealership doesn't know what to fix!!! so scary and dangerous!! please force action! this vehicle is extremely dangerous. stalls out/engine shuts off while driving!!!!!!! loses power steering, and all control!!! absolutely dumbfounded that this hasn't seen a recall with so many similar occurrences!!! so disappointed! i'm scared to death to drive my new car.
The vehicle stalled when coming to a stop and when slowing to make a sharp turn causing the engine to stop and loose braking and steering. the vehicle was taken to the ford dealer at a cost of $820.25 to replace part # 8f9z 9f472 e sensor hego, on the first visit which did not correct the problem, on the next visit to the dealer part # 8f9z 9e730 g sensor hego and part # 9l3z 9e730 g valve asy fuel vapour were replaced which corrected the problem. the vehicle stalled when approaching stop sings and when slowing to make a sharp turn on highways with heavy traffic behind my vehicle causing loss of brakes and steering. i have the invoices in my possession but am unable to upload.
I live in a metropolitan area where there is always a high volume of traffic and losing power of a vehicle is a dangerous situation. driving in 5:00 rush hour traffic and accelerating from a red light when my ford truck entered into a "limp home" mode (wrench icon and oil lamp appeared) it stalled out. i was able to coast into a parking lot even though i had no power steering or brakes. eventually, i was able to start my vehicle. my truck drove fine but now and then had a hesitation to start. about a week later, it stalled again; this time it did not start. i was a block from my office and we pushed it back. i had it towed to a local shop and was told it was the fuel pump. i work in outside sales and had to have it replaced $700. the truck drove ok for about a month, but still hesitated on starting. in june, once again it stalled. i took it back to the shop and they could find nothing wrong. july 9th, i was driving about 55 mph when i came to a signal light and stopped. the light turned green, i begin my left hand turn and the truck stalled. i had it towed to ford dealer. they are saying that now it is the fuel pump battery junction box, another $2500 and it will take after labor day before i get my truck back because there are no parts available!!! rent a car for 2 months on top of that!!!
Accelerator stuck to floorboard. applied maximum braking until brakes faded and were no longer effective in deceleration. turned off ignition and coasted to the curb. after 3-5 minutes, restarted the engine and vehicle functioned normally. purchased this truck used and this was the first time the accelerator was applied fully. it will be the last. *tr
While driving, the vehicle lost power completely so power steering was non-functional. was able, with much difficulty, to guide the vehicle off of busy road and on to side street. darn lucky i wasn't involved in accident. had vehicle towed to crossroads ford in cary, n.c. here is word for word what the mechanic wrote. "vehicle towed in. customer states vehicle turns over but won't start. check and advise. "could not duplicate concern. ran oasis. no codes. read past hotline reports for bad pin fit for fuse 27 in under hood fuse panel. tried to relocate to different location. wire terminal damaged during removal. installed inline fuse holder to fuel pump wire. installed 20 amp fuse. test drove and no problems at this time." so basically, this was a flaw in manufacture regarding pin fit for fuse 27 that caused vehicle to cease power while driving and endangered passengers. i called ford service at 800-392-3673 and case was opened. case # [xxx]. customer service rep at crossroads ford was [xxx] and mechanic was [xxx] . i spoke with service manager [xxx] and he was made aware of situation and i'm waiting for his reply as to if there will be compensation. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr
Leaving red light, truck stalled. oil light came on, lost power steering, brake. was able to coast at an angle to the side. could have caused an accident or traffic jam. put truck in park, waited a minute, turned back on and gave it gas. ran fine after that. took to dealership next day. they said would not be any way to know what happened without pulling engine apart. suggested multi point inspection and tune up. did not mention this issue occurring previously or the numerous complaints of this issue online. they found a dusty air intake sensor that could have caused the problem. changed spark plugs and performed tune up & oil change. incident happened again leaving gas station pump on dec 29, 2014. when restarted, it cranked several times but wouldn't fire up. tried 3 times before successful start. ran fine after that. afraid a stall at high speed or when pulling my horse and trailer will cause major accident. have seen complaints of fuel purge valve or throttle body butterfly valve causing this. needs to be addressed by ford. *js
Exhaust manifolds are rusting off very bad .big flakes .i don't even drive truck in winter .i called ford and gote no help.
While driving for the first time on the day of the incident i had traveled about 3 miles when i heard a tone and saw the check engine light come on. i immediately applied the brakes as i was approaching a red light and as the truck slowed i saw a low oil pressure warning come up on the digital message center and the engine stalled. i lost brake pressure and nearly ran the red light. i turned the ignition off and restarted the truck. i drove to the dealer immediately (southwest ford of greenville, tx) they troubleshoot the problem down to a faulty fuel purge valve. this caused a secondary issue due to an excess vacuum build up in the tank. the tank was deformed destroying the fuel pump and fuel qty sending unit. the repair cost was about 1200 dollars. the dealership was excellent at giving me the detailed information, and they paid for my rental. *tr
Platinum edition purchased in jan 2011. issue: cap less gas door stays unhinged and will not close. notes: happened after a trip. door was open, retract device inside of frame no longer provides tension need to keep gas door closed. 1. resulting to taping door closed to prevent further damaged to the truck, other than tape damage to the paint. 2. would like to know: a. risk of ignition now that gas door does not stay closed. important being truck is not equipped with gas cap. b. risk of ignition due to external combustible source or ignition source such as but not limited to; cigarettes, sparks, electric, temperature etc. 3. need or direction for myself or other drivers to update insurance, etc. for coverage and liability to others this defect could produce. 4. other considerations not mentioned in this statement. overall complaint is that due to the nature of the item in question, and the vast amount of other users both here and at other noted sites and forums, a fix needs to be issued or info needs to be provided by ford or the nhtsa or ntsb so driver can know the facts on the safety issue involved or lack of. ntf *tr
My 2010 ford f150 has approx. 30,4xx miles on it and has been maintained perfectly. in a brief summary, going in to work early (5am) potentially saved me from having a wreck to due a faulty throttle body. upon accelerating from a red light, my truck entered into a "limp home" mode (mechanic wrench icon appeared) and began to incorrectly regulate my rpms. this caused my vehicle to become nearly stranded as i was moving no faster than 10mph in a 50mph zone. i was luckily only 1/8th of a mile from work and was able to get off the street. upon leaving work, my truck was acting fine with no warning lights (not even the mechanic wrench). i then proceeded to drive it to an auto parts supplier to have a free diagnostic performed. no codes were saved or showed up. however, while driving back home, it again acted up and entered a limp mode. this time both "check engine" and "mechanic wrench" lights were on. i took my truck to the nearest dealer who then diagnose the problem as a faulty throttle body. i am quoted $881 to perform the replacement of a ~$150 part...since it is a 2010, it is out of the 3yr/36,000 bumper to bumper and ford doesn't consider the throttle body part of the drive train warranty (ford will cover the intake manifold though, a chunk of plastic that won't break)... ford has apparently had problems w/ their drive-by-wire throttle bodies, as seen through their "consumer satisfaction program 13n03" recall. this incident should definitely be investigated as i have taken proper care of my truck (that has 30,400 miles) and i am stranded in a road, often traveled by 18 wheelers, going 10mph. i am not confident in my ford truck. *tr
Vehicle would stall at random while driving. mechanics at ford advised that it was relay wire or harness wires for the airbag sensors that ran through the fuel tank were corroded or shorted out. they reported that the engineers at ford made a bad call when they decided to run the wires through the fuel tank, which in turn resulted in me having to dish out 1500 bucks for the repair. this issue occurred multiple times prior to the repair on a truck with less than 53000 miles at the time, between during march or april of 2014 when i first purchased the used truck. lost all power at various speeds and on several road types including highway, highway service road, residential street and farm to market road, while going strait and during turns, after multiple events and having put less than 1000 miles on it, i took it up to ford. grateful that no accidents occured during the episodes i experienced. i was able to cometo a stop, place the truck in park and restart it. ttince the repair no issues. love the f series pick ups and have owned several over a span of 18 years and its all my dads company uses. i know its been almost 4 years since having the issue but felt like i needed to say something to at least give others a head up or warning. never set well with me. i still have the repair paperwork if needed.
2010 f-150 supercrew - lariat 5.4l. capless fuel filler - check engine light comes on + message center displays 'check fuel fill inlet'. check engine light diagnosed as 'low level leak evap system'. called ford about a recall on the capless fuel fill that appears to affect many other vehicles; gave them my vin and they replied 'there is no recall on your vin'. asked if they had issues w/ the capless fuel system and they would not respond. also smell gas fumes when i first enter the garage area in the morning after parking the truck overnight w/ garage door closed. *tr
I have 2010 ford f150 fx4. i have 36000 miles on it and am the original. bought it new from dealership. today i was towing my horse trailer with 2 horses in it and came through the residential area near the barn. speed limit is 30 miles an hour and i was doing 25 and was actually braking to slow it down to 20. i heard a weird engine noise and suddenly the truck surged and took off. we hit almost 50 miles an hour in this residential 2 lane road in a matter of seconds and i was standing on the brakes with both feet. my friend in the truck was downshifting (automatic) for me in an attempt to slow engine down. we managed to get it to 2nd and with me standing on brakes we were able to keep it at 40 mph. neutral had no effect and rpms way too high for first gear-every time i slightly lifted my foot of the brakes slightly, we surged to 50 and the truck kept trying to go faster. nothing we tried could get it to stop, slow or return to normal. we tried neutral and nothing happened. it was not the floor mat or the tow feature. did not have speed control on. scariest ride of my life and with two horses behind me. i was prepared to hit a tree or rock wall as we were running out of road. i was terrified of jack knifing. we finally hit an incline for a hill and we slammed it into neutral again, pulled the emergency brake and shut off the engine when we got to the top. think my brakes completely burned out and smoke was coming from my engine. numerous people that we had terrified pulled over with us once we got the runaway truck stopped. called tow truck and had towed to dealership and will see what they say tomorrow. i shudder to think what could have happened had someone pulled onto the road in front of us or a deer stepped out. i am terrified of this truck now. *ln
Driving home from work (50 miles each way) started trip with 1/2 tank of gas gauge reported i had around 180 mile to empty. 20 miles later got the warning tone that i was 50 miles from empty. i worked my way over to exit the freeway within four miles as i was exiting computer read zero miles to empty. as i was turning into the gas station truck died. after several tries truck restarted and i got into the station to pump in some gas. i put in five gallons be certain that it was more than enough to get me home. computer then read 190 miles to empty. drove the final 25 miles home when i arrived home the computer was reading around 25 miles to empty. i checked the engine compartment and underneath looking for and smelling for fuel leaks. nothing was found but there was an indentation in the tank behind the forward band holding the tank. i opened the fuel door and while messing around with the cap-less system i heard and felt air rushing into the tank. local dealer re-flashed the computer per a tsb. four days truck dies again. started trip with 159 miles to empty 1/4 tank 18 miles later it is reading 35 miles to empty 5 miles later it died showing 7 miles to empty. i the put 6 gallons of gas in computer reads 24 miles to empty. back to the ford dealer they call to say that they believe it is the fuel level sensor but want to keep the truck for another day and put some more gas in at my expense. they ordered sensor and had me take truck home till part came in. return to ford thursday morning to have sender installed later in the day i receive a call saying my fuel pump is bent so service is not covered by warranty they saying that i must have run over something or gone off-road and damaged the pump. in looking at the pump today yes the rods are bent but even the mechanic agreed that there is no visible physical damage to the tank itself. *tr
As i am pumping gas, there is significant seepage. in some cases, i have to stop half way through because the seepage is so great. during this last incident, i took pictures of the area where the seepage was trickling down and showed to dealership. they were unable to replicate and insisted that it was due to overfilling my tank. i told them seepage occurred throughout the fill up process. this was their second attempt to diagnose the problem. there is an issue with the fuel gauge. one moment i will have 90 miles to empty then within a few miles, i am at 50 miles to empty. *tr
