Recently reported ELECTRICAL SYSTEM problems on 2010 Ford F-150

While driving, suddenly all warning lights began flashing randomly, radio and 4 way flashers went on. after turning off the truck and removing the key, the problems continued and the engine would not restart. towed it to a dealer. they diagnosed it as a bad "smart junction box", and replaced "d module".

The normal camshaft phaser issues are occurring. loud knocking, vibrating while idling, and general rattling from the motor when the truck isn't above 1000 rpm's. while this may not directly cause accidents, in intense rattling and knocking can cause other issues to arise which in turn can cause major safety concerns for the nhtsa. if ford doesn't decide to take on this issue and repair it, then it can be expected that every 3 valve ford motor made since 2005 will eventually succumb to these major issues. as we all know ford has had issues designing motors in the past, primarily the 6.0, 6.4 and 5.4 motor that i currently own, but it is time for ford to step up and handle the mechanical problems that their designers negligence caused. it is not too much to ask that an auto manufacturer stands by their product and repairs or replaces the faulty part when the time comes. additionally in the part you wherein you asked for the date of the incident, i will put the most recent occurrence but please note that this issue is reoccurring and you should expect knocking and vibration every time you drive.

As i was driving to work this morning with my rear defrost on - monday 10-21-2019 around 7:30 am on the same hwy i take everyday, i notice smoke coming from the passenger side back windshield, as think in my mind what the hell i need to pull over to check it out, all of a sudden a loud boom goes off and my back passenger side windshield explodes..after collecting myself i stop to check it out and notice where the smoke is coming from, as i'm looking at my back glass i notice the smoke is coming from the outside of the windshield around the rubber gasket, it was literally melting. i also have a video where you can hear the cracking/ melting of the back windshield

The truck driver heated seat wires overheated and began to catch fire. the wires melted and caused the excessive heat to catch the foam and fabric to burn. the heated seats were not turned on at the time.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle would not start. an independent mechanic diagnosed that the fuel pump fuse was melted. the mechanic installed a new fuse. the contact stated that the manufacturer issued technical service bulletin number: 15-0137 regarding the failure. childre ford (1207 s harris st, sandersville, ga 31082, (478) 552-8200) was contacted and ordered a part specifically for the repair. the manufacturer was contacted and developed a special remedy for the failure. the contact was concerned that the fuse panel was damaged and could cause the engine to shut off, loss of power steering, and a possible crash. the failure mileage was 204,000.

Truck was parked hooked to a camper when i tried to start the truck it would not start. had to tow the truck to the ford dealer they told me it was the fuse that overheated they would have to replace it with a fuse kit. the dealer said it was not covered under my extended warranty but i did however see an article in cars.com stating that ford was replacing this free of charge. it seems to me that ford is aware of this fuse that overheats and in fact sells a fuse kit that relocates this fuse at a charge of $480 but i'm sending this survey hoping to overturn this. according to other ford owners this issue has occurred while driving and seems very unsafe i was fortunate enough to be parked and just inconvenienced.

Rear side passenger door is stuck and will not unlock nor open. door is not working

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration and the wrench warning indicator illuminated. the contact pumped the accelerator pedal and the vehicle regained acceleration. the contact also stated that the loss of throttle power occurred four times in one day. the contact drove the vehicle to peoria ford (9130 w bell rd, peoria, az 85382) where it was diagnosed that fuse 70 burned and melted the fuse box. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 71,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that the check engine warning indicator kept randomly flashing, there was reduced engine power, and the vehicle failed to crank. in addition, there was a loss of electrical and engine power, which caused the vehicle to stall. the vehicle was towed to bill colwell ford inc. The truck will not start motor turns over and iignition key stays stuck in the run position and the engine will not start . found the fuse that supplies power to the fuel pump relay. the fuse number 27 witch is a 20 amp over heats and melts the fuse box. where the fuse get installed in . ford motor company has a repair kit for this problem which is ford part number el3z-14293 fuse relocation in the fuse box to a bigger 20 amp fuse new location 70 . they know they have a problem in there electrical fuel system

Ive had the same problem now twice in a row with the fuel pump 20a fuel in the fuse box under the hood getting hot and melting then blowing the fuse. this fuse if it hadn't blown would have caught the fuse box on fire. ford makes a kit to bypass the tiny fuse to relicate it to a larger fuse in an open spot. there are multiple others in numerous forums who state they have had the same problem. ford has never issued a recall for this issue that can turn bad if the fuse does not pop.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while stationary, the vehicle would not start when prompted. in addition, the vehicle stalled on more than one occasion. bob sight ford in lee's summit, missouri was made aware of the failure and requested that the vehicle be brought in for diagnostic testing. the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. the contact cited tsb number: 15-0137 as a potential guide for repair of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 130,000. *tt

Driving on county road using rear defroster and the rear window shattered on the passengr side. extremely loud boom like a gun shot sound. no hole in glass just shattered but still in frame.

I have not had any problems with the truck until now. lately i t's not been cranking and the check engine light on. sometimes it cranks fine and sometime it doesn't. i took it to auto zone and they got a communications code. i've heard a lot of complaints on this issue. i've also been told that the vehicle will shut down on you while driving.

Rear window defroster, doesn't work. there is a major malfunction with f-150's concerning this problem. a lot of people are having this problem. there should be a recall. is the government gonna let ford slide by again on this? what about the people.

Fuel pump fuse blows without provocation leaving vehicle without power. went out to start vehicle and it would only turn over but never start. found this to be a consistent problem on the web and was able to replace the fuse and vehicle started immediately.

Engine cranks but does not start one morning. found fried fuel pump fuse was the issue. not a blown fuse. a fried fuse. blackened and charred.

My high school daughter was driving our 2010 f150 on the way to school today and it failed in the left turn lane at a busy intersection, and it would crank but not start. people were honking their horns and my daughter missed classes. she could have been re-end and injured for the rest of her life. i had the vehicle towed to a garage and they said it was a known issue related to a fuse/fuse box wire and they are looking for a fusebox bypass kit that ford has put together to fix this problem. this is a known issue that several people have reported. https://ca.cargurus.com/cars/discussion-c21953_ds740770. this is a safety issue! she could have been rear-ended and injured for the rest of her life! repair cost to install ford's bypass kit was $360. ford knows about this and did not notify us to my knowledge.

Like hundreds of others, driving and put rear defroster on and a minute later heard a gunshot like noise and my back rear right winidow exploded. dogs in the backseat, was not pretty and scared the heck out of me while driving. isn't there a recall on this yet?

My truck cranks but won't start. the fuse to the fuel pump relay was blown. i understand this is a problem with many truck owners and ford is offering a bypass kit for this system for $400-$500. shouldn't this be a recall if they're having to install a bypass kit?

The 20 amp fuse for the fuel pump is melting in the fuse block. this is all over the internet and is a known problem by ford dealers. this 2010 year is the problem everyone is having. ford has yet to have a recall but with all the problems it is not going to long until someone is stranded and they bypass the fuse and start a fire. ford does need to address this problem .i do not have any pictures of mine i changed over the weekend but there is plenty on line that is how we found why my truck would not start. it is only a matter of time before a fire may start from this melting of the fuse block.

Tpms module continually looses contact with wheel sensors and displays "tire pressure sensor fault" in the instrument cluster. discount tire has replaced and resynced three times and it continues to happen. the fault usually occurs when on the freeway. about 30 days after having it fixed. the other issue is continual problems with the apim module. this is a safety concern if you're unable to make a phone call because you're having constant bluetooth issues. it has come to my attention through a google search that many people with the same model and vintage are having this problem, and ford is trying their best to blame peoples phones for causing problems rather than accepting responsibility for it. my truck is in the dealer having this issue looked at for a third time now. i'm finally getting them to replace the apim under my extended factory warranty.

Ford f150 4x4 xlt, dash board keeps going out. shows skidding, and tire sensor faulty, dingging, a/c goes hot, inside lights don't work. has happened many times, spoke with ford took it in, they stated they could not duplicate the problem, which we have found out is a lie. they stated we needed a new battery, which we had tested as well as the alternator and nothing wrong there either. we took it to advanced auto to see what they could tell us. a young man said that ford had put out a inside notice that his buddy showed him of a faulty wiring harness in the dash. he asked if he could show us a short term fix...he smacked the dash and all the lights came back on. if we hit a bump it will do it again, or on really hot days, because of the heat. we are waiting on ford to recall this as it is a serious hazard and maybe start fires. as sometimes you smell electrical, this happens daily when ever we drive the truck, you can have a wreck trying to smack it hard enough to get it to come back on. this happens when you are sitting in the truck , driving, or when you go to start it up...you will have no gauges, lights a/c or heat in the winter. yet the outside lights will work, yet when you push the brakes you hear a loud clicking. this has been happening for approx. 2.5 yrs +...ford needs to recall and fix this. everyday we deal with this problems multiple times a day. we brought this truck new and it first did this around 23,000 miles. now at just over 50,000 miles. there are times that smacking the dash does notwork and we have to wait for it to come on, those time you have to run with traffic or if others are passing you need to speed up. very dangerous

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. on several occasions, while driving, the door ajar indicator illuminated, indicating that the door was ajar. the contact stated that the rear driver's and passenger side doors were closed. upon further inspection, he noticed that the wires were fractured. the contact called cloninger ford of morgantown at (828) 584-4600(1001 jamestown rd, morgantown, nc 28655) and took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the driver's side wiring harness needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact to call nhtsa. the approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

The instrument cluster fails at start up not come on no speedometer or anything on the instrument cluster as well as sometimes it wont start

Fuel pump relay fuse melted. 2010 f-150 2 wd v8, was driving and pulling a trailer (within the vehicle's parameters weight wise, i.e. not overloaded, and in fact it continued with the empty trailer) and the truck began stalling randomly, usually when going up a hill. this is very dangerous as i was hauling valuable horses up hilly roads at the time. i had it repaired at a local dealership (crain ford, little rock, arkansas 501-570-3737) which involved moving the fuse to a different spot. it seems to be acting up again after less than a week. i paid a lot of money to "fix" it and it needs to stay fixed!

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving and making a left turn, the vehicle inadvertently stalled. the contact coasted into a parking lot, waited a minute, restarted the vehicle, and resumed driving. in addition, the vehicle stalled without warning while driving 30 mph. the failure recurred twice. the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 197,664.

The door ajar light stays on. after closing all doors repeadtly, the driver side door light says its still ajar. the dangerous part is that the cab lights stay on the whole time while driving at night. also, when done driving and after locking the truck, the lights still stay on running down the battery.

Rear defrost began to smoke and shattered glass. glass shards fell into rear seating area. vehicle was in reverse gear.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated that the instrument cluster flickered on and off intermittently. the contact stated that the instrument cluster failure caused the air conditioner to fail. when the instrument cluster resumed operation, the air conditioner began working again. the contact also stated that the vehicle was difficult to start on several occasions. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. the contact was informed that the instrument cluster needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failures. the approximate failure mileage was 76,000. the vin was unavailable.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while operating the vehicle, the turn signals would not work and the electric seats and side mirrors could not be adjusted. in addition, the windshield wipers and wiper fluid sprayer erroneously activated. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the smart junction box was faulty and needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 120,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. the contact stated the inside of the passenger door caught fire due to wires melting locking module. the vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the door lock wiring needed to be replaced. the vehicle was repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was 140,000.

My 2010 ford f-150 air condition system blows out cool air on the drivers side and hot air on the passenger side.when the air is turned on.

The truck has had this issue since i've purchased the truck but can never duplicate the issue while at the dealership. the 1st time the engine would crank but would not fire. the second time, i was driving and the truck just stopped. i was lucky enough some passing by motorist helped to push it out of the intersection. 3rd time, the truck was parked and did not start. after troubleshooting the issue, the fuel pump relay fuse burned out. normally fuses just pop, this one just burned out to where i could not take out the fuse. took the truck to was bought at and after a few hours, the problem was located. the shop foreman stated that they have had alot of trucks go in with the same issue. only reason i making a complaint is due to that comment. it is a safety issue when i was driving and truck shuts off in the middle of the intersection. what if my sons were with me? hope this gets resolved and a recalled is made before something worse happens to someone else. thank you. *tr

Ignition cylinder fell out while driving. while driving my vehicle the ignition cylinder (including my keys) fell out of the steering column. the vehicle kept running, power steering and brakes were still functioning and steering wheel was able to be turned. i pulled over to the side of the road and found the ignition cylinder containing my keys on the floor mat of my vehicle. i was able to drive the vehicle home - however i was not able to turn off the engine with the key after i arrived home. i pulled the negative battery cable to kill the engine. i called dorian ford and was told this is a common failure and for $375 this could be fixed (per roxanne, service advisor @ dorian ford). i found this incredible that a service advisor would indicate this is a common failure. this was quite scary for the first few moments when i heard the cylinder fall out and then hit my leg on its way to the floor. my first thought was this is the same scenario that occurred on gm vehicles with the ignition cylinder. ivoq n n n n 55 v n n

Turned on the rear defrost on the vehicle this morning as it was sitting still warming up. temp=40f. came outside with the back glass smoking and on fire, melting the plastic trim on the passenger side of the back glass. minutes later the glass broke, spidering the entire panel on the passenger side.

It was 7 degrees this morning and there was ice on my rear window. i turned on the electric defrost and about 5 minutes later i hear a loud bang. the passenger side rear window exploded / shattered into pieces. we called ford and they are not willing to rectify the situation or addres it in any way.

While driving i turned on the defroster for the back window and approx. 1 minute later the passenger side rear section of the back window shattered i was driving about 25 miles an hour after making a turn this happened. *js

Truck stalls coming to a stop at red lights/stop signs. also stalls while simply driving down a street or highway/interstate. after shutting down recently (while driving on the interstate), the truck was towed. i was traveling at 65mph on interstate at the time and was able to drift into emergency lane. after several tests, learned there was a problem in the fuse box. the fuse to the fuel pump was melted in the fuse box. was told the fuel pump on these years pulls more than required amps and is overheating the fuse and melting it. was told the fuse box would need to be replaced and ford has a 4 to 6 week back order on these. because of so many issues. not fair for consumers to pay for this engineering mistake.

I turned on my defrost on my rear truck window, let the truck warm up as it was -5, started to drive down the street, doing 50 km, heard a loud "pop" and the back sliding window shattered on the driver's side. luckily it stayed intact as i was on my way to work. i stopped at ford to see what they could do, as i researched the problem and hundreds of people have experienced this same issue with the ford trucks. the service manager at ford said he coulnd't do anything for me as i no longer had warranty. he wanted to charge me $1200 for a new window. i called ford motor co. and they also said they couldn't do anything about it (even tho it is a common problem). i had the window fixed by an independent company for half the price ford would have charged. i believe this should be a recall, as it is certainly a safety hazard. there are several complaints about this issue on the nhtsa site.

Fuel pump relay fuse (#27) will either blow or melt in fuse box. replacing fuse will only fix problem temporarily, as melted area in fuse box will cause new fuse to not make consistent contact, leading to vehicle not starting when hot, or even engine cutting off while driving, causing really bad safety issue. very difficult problem to fix, as dealers either give you the run around or want to replace entire fuse box and engine wiring harness which costs about $2000, parts and labor. 'solution' is to find wire to relay in fuse box, very difficult, and splice in an inline fuse. have had mechanic and towing fees over $1000 so far, and still only have a bypass fuse installed. local dealer was aware of the issue, as they see this problem all of the time, was told to call ford, which had never heard of the problem. another ford owner next door has the exact same problem.

Tl* the contact owns a 2010 ford f-150. while driving at an unknown speed, the air bag warning indicator illuminated. the failure was intermittent. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire passenger side seat belt module needed to be replaced. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the failure mileage was approximately 75,000. updated 02/12/16*lj; 04/19/18*jb *js

Wiring harness on 2010 ford f-150 4x4 burns up at fuse box. original harness was replaced by dealer in 2013. second harness burnt up at fuse box after 16 months. waiting for new harness at present time. it is the fuel pump connection that is burning up in the box by the fuse. when the harness burns through, the vehicle automatically stops, even while in motion. this constitutes a safety hazard as no notice occurs before burn up. no warning lights appear on dash to warn of this. nothing has been done to correct the failure, other than replacing the wire harness that is burning up. they have done nothing to correct the reason for the burn up. all that has been done is replacement of the part that is damaged.. have been waiting for over a month for parts. other vehicles at the dealership are also experiencing this same issue.

Driving to work had rear defroster on and outside temperature was high 30s or low 40s. saw smoke start to billow out in middle of rear slider. pulled over and checked, smoke went away when i opened the power slider about 6". when i closed the window with the power slider the right rear backglass shattered. this is apparently a common problem with this model truck.

2010 f-150 passenger rear window spidered this morning when i turned on rear defrost. *tr

The truck was parked facing down on a moderate hill. when the truck was started and the shift lever moved from park to drive, the transmission remained locked up (still in park) and the visual gear selector indicator did not illuminate showing any gear selected. after a few seconds, the transmission shifted into drive and the shift indicator illuminated in the gear selected. applying gas during the "pause shift" period resulted in a rapid and uncontrolled acceleration when the shift occurred and this resulted in a significant accident. after the accident, the truck was examined by a ford dealership technician and the transmission control modulator (tcm) was reprogrammed.

The truck was parked in the driveway warming up with the rear window defrost on when a lot of smoke started coming out of the area around the rear passenger side head rest. i turned off the truck and then there was a loud bang and the passenger side rear window panel had shattered. *tr
