Bought truck least week took in for a oil change and was told that the front half shaft is rotten to the point it's pitting. the steering shaft is rusted out and the majority of the frame is rusted out near where all the important parts of the vehicle are held in place. as i do research on this problem i'm finding it is a common problem. the truck only has 61000 miles on it and it shouldn't have this much wear on the body of the truck. ford really needs to look into a recall because there are thousands of trucks with this same issue. i have never owned a ford and never will again. the car is basically worthless and it's a matter of time when it rusts all the way thru. stationary issue. i don't have any photos as of right now. i will be taking more the oil shop has pictures that he showed me.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while driving 55 mph, the rear frame detached and was rotted out. there were no warning indicators illuminated. the vehicle was taken to tony betten and sons ford (3839 plainfield ave ne, grand rapids, mi 49525, (616) 363-6841), but was not diagnosed or repaired. the manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the local dealer. the failure mileage was 151,678.

Two mechanics and one autobody technician inspected the truck and reported that the chassis is heavily corroded throughout for the vehicle's age and is not safe for towing. one mechanic reported that the rear end of the truck would require over $1,000 of welded steel reinforcements to make truck towe worthy. also gas tank can fell due to the tank holder streeps are attached to the corroted chassis.

I notice numerous of f 150 like mine paint on hood and cab fading. all the rest of the body paint is great. there should be a recall on these items.ford should let customers bring truck in for a touch up or paint job.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford-f150. the contact stated that the frame was rusted to the point that it could not be repaired. the rust could prevent the vehicle from passing inspection. the dealer was not contacted. the manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 120,000.

Extensive frame rust compromising vehicle integrity. cracked frame.

Frame on f150 is rusting through causing frame to become vulnerable to breaking. rusting and cracking taking place between back of cab and rear wheel mounts. found during oil change at ford dealership and body shop did not even want to provide estimate to fix due to complexity of fix and legal implications.

Premature frame corrosion and rust failure, during recent routine maintenance, my mechanic informed me that the frame on the rear half of my 2005 ford f-150 had rusted under the bed and rear wheel wells to the point of failure where the frame would no longer support the weight of the vehicle on his lift. rust thru holes and longitudinal cracks had formed on the bottom and side frame surfaces at the stress point before the rear wheel bend. this seems extremely unusual because the truck has been generally been garage kept and maintained in good mechanical condition. the exterior body only exhibits light spots of surface rust on the visible body panels. providing no hints of the degradation occurring below. my mechanic has told me that catastrophic failure of the frame structure was imminent and that the vehicle was no longer safe to drive. which in itself is concerning in that i had been totally unaware of the vehicle's deteriorating condition. had i not taken the vehicle in for maintenance i would likely continued driving the vehicle until one day being totally surprised when the back half of my truck separated from the front.

Paint on the roof and back of the cab is flaking off.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while driving approximately 30 mph, the exhaust pipe detached from the vehicle. the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and it was discovered that the entire subframe of the vehicle was rusted and corroded, including the damaged exhaust pipe. the exhaust pipe was repaired, but the subframe was not. the manufacturer was notified of the failure, but the local dealer was not. the vin was not available. the failure mileage was 70,000.

Frame on my 2005 f-150 is rotted and has become a safety concern.

There is a current recall for this same issue but its till 2004, but should be expanded. i have a 2005 f150 with the same issues as a 2004 f150 and the chassis suffers from massive corrosion. my truck is deemed unsafe to drive. the frame is rotting through and very dangerous to drive. it can separate at any time. the truck only has 88k miles and it could separate at anytime. if involved in an accident it can be fatal. nhtsa you need to investigate and recall this serious issue right away and save peoples lives.

When changing the brakes on my 2005 f150 i found the frame completely rusted thru the exterior is in great shape with minimal corrosion.

Extensive main frame rail rust rending truck unsafe to drive now. started around 2010.

I have a 2005 f150 fx4 that i bought in 2010. in 2017 with the truck being 12 years old. i had to remove the vehicle from the road because of frame rot! this was my baby and taken well care of. both sides in front of the rear axle are rotted out to the point a jack just goes right through them. the inspection failed because if they would have lifted it, it would have folded in half. also has a broken front left coil spring. i should have a vehicle worth around 8-10 grand that is going to sell for scrap metal priced. why are american auto maker not held responsible for making defective vehicles? my previous vehicle was an 199o toyota tacoma that had a frame rot recall and mine was spotless. fast forward, bought an american made vehicle that cost me 15 grand and got 6 and a half years out of and no one holding ford responsible! sickening!

Frame rusted and cracked, 72,000 miles. i'm the original owner. note, all other underbody components appear normal for age and miles; though i don't have too much faith in rear drive shaft. location is in front leaf spring attachment bracket adjacent to fuel tank.

Ford f 150 cracked rear frame rails truck made in 2004 they had a recall for trucks made in 2004 but my truck is titled as a 2005 they must still have had bad frames left over they used to build 2005 trucks rear of truck is floating when you drive it.

Vehicle went into "failsafe" mode on two separate occasions within the last year! and most recently, two weeks ago! both at highway speed on two different interstates in florida! very dangerous, and hard to control vehicle to "limp" to a safe place to stop! many possible causes from electrical, fuel, or engine issues that are well documented on many internet sites and f150 forums! also rust issues on roof of vehicle in rain channels! very common, and very poor design!

2005 ford f150, only 85,000 miles on the vehicle. the overall exterior body of truck has zero rust and is in excellent condition. however, the main "frame" of the truck, which supports all the weight and structure of the truck is rusted through. i live in wisconsin and have owned many fords, and other trucks. never have i had a frame of a truck rust out like this. these truck should last 200,000 miles +, and i have done just that on previous vehicles. however, with the body having zero rust, it is out of the norm to see this frame rusted through with holes in the main structure of the frame. i was advised by multiple auto shops this can not be weld repaired due to safety standards. further, in order to fix the issue and make the vehicle safe, the entire frame must be replaced. being this truck only has 85,000 miles on it, i find it absurd that this is even an issue. as previously mentioned, i have never seen this sort of corrosion on the under body, and yet the quarter panels, tailgate, bumper are all zero rust. it is evident that there is a metallurgical defect in the steel used for this frame. i have read numerous postings by others owning the 2005 model and many have experienced the same issue. frame rusting out before it even hits 100,000 miles, and these are daily drivers. as of now, this vehicle is deemed unsafe by the local ford dealer, and even the master technician on site was perplexed by the undercarriage corroding as it had, when the vehicle is otherwise "clean" inside and out, with no rust.

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while the vehicle was at the dealer for maintenance, the contact was informed that the subframe displayed excessive corrosion. the contact was informed that the vehicle was unsafe and should not be driven. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 39,000. the vin was not available. updated 06/23/17*lj consumer stated he believes that the frame had excessive corrosion due to the liquid salt that mdot puts on highways and failure of a weak frame manufacture. updated 9/27/18*jb

Took my truck in for service (engine light on for the oxygen sensor) and when they put the truck on the lift the frame folded because it had rusted out on both sides. i was still driving this truck at highway speeds. i bought the truck new and it was driveway parked in connecticut for the 12 years i have owned it. the mileage on the truck is a little over 40k and the body parts of the truck look very good. i had to scrap the truck for parts, very sad. someone should notify other owners of the 2005 f150s to check the frames because i had no idea it was this bad.

I own a 2005 ford f-150 4x4 extended cab with just over 60,000 mi. for its age, the truck is in pretty nice shape except for the frame, it's gone, rusted! there is a section between the cab & engine bay that you can put your fingers through, not one but several fingers, let alone in other areas though out the frame that are also rotted through. it's a boxed frame with no inside coating made with what i read elsewhere was cheep steel, won't mention where from, but not us steel. yes i live in ne, and it has tasted salt from the roads, but i also kept it clean all winter long. i paid a lot for this truck, bought it new and now feel that i have been cheated. i am now on my third new ford truck, a 2018, and i'm afraid to walk buy it with a salt shaker in my hand. my first was a 1984 f-250 that i drove for 21 years, put 100,000 miles on it, sold it in 05, and is still on the road to this day on it's third owner. i know where it lives. i'm reading on line that this is happening to a lot of these trucks, let alone i believe ford has already replaced frames in a mini van for this same reason. i also have a few pictures. there is a pic just showing the underside, which for the most part is in good shape, a little surface rust, no through rot. now the frame pics, another story. these trucks also have an issue with the exhaust manifold as to where the bolts holding it in place rot out and now you have a noisy exhaust leak truck that has to have its motor taken out to have that repaired, got that going on also. thank you for your time, from a not so happy ford owner ps: when i bought my new truck, nov of 2017, they evaluated my 05 for a trade in, which i wasn't going to do anyway, they only offered me $3000 on what i thought was a good truck, foiled again!

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. the contact stated that the vehicle was taken to and independent mechanic for scheduled maintenance. while the vehicle was on the lift, the mechanic noticed that the entire frame was severely rusted and there were fractured areas in front of the wheel well on both sides. the vehicle was not repaired. the manufacturer was notified of the failure. the approximate failure mileage was 67,000.

I took my truck in for a repair and when they lifted it they found holes in the frame of the truck. i have been informed that it may fail within two years. this truck is around 10 years old and has been parked in a driveway for the first half of its life and up till last year has been garage kept. there is 57,805 miles on it talked to multiple mechanics and none of them can believe that there is any logical reason for such a fast rot out. *tr

Frame on drivers side is rotting away.

Front end collision into the rear of another truck. whole front end damaged through radiator, hood, headlights, bumpers etc. airbag never deployed and upon return of vehicle after repairs, i am now getting a code 42 that the sensor is bad and after research find out there is a recall on this but for the opposite reason but also now understand there are corrosion issues with the connection of the sensor also. hope this helps. please advise what to do, will ford fix this whole problem and replace with a new sensor and the wire chaffing problem? thank you in advance! *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while driving 25 mph, the rear passenger side shock absorber detached from the frame of the vehicle. the dealer stated that the entire frame was corroded and needed to be replaced. the contact was informed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive. the vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. the failure mileage was 13,000.

The vehicle is a 2005 ford f 150. shock fell off doing 30 miles mph. took to my body shop to repair. said i needed to go to dealer. i bought it brand new. dealer was no help he said he had never seen a frame as bad as mine. when i asked what and to do, he told me to decide for myself what to do. the frame and suspension were so bad he said the vehicle was unsafe to drive. confirmed by another ford dealership. i now have a vehicle which is ford's signature truck which may simply go to the junk yard. all said it can not be fixed. i would need a new frame for ca. 18000. not worth repairing. called ford and they simply said there was nothing they could do. it is evident the frame was defective when assembled. *tr

Bad perforation corrosion around wheel arches. paint blistering. *tr

After washing and waxing my truck i noticed that on both of the back fenders the paint is starting to bubble up and there appears to be rust coming out of the bubbles. i have seen others online that are having this same problem and ford knows about it check the link http://www.lemonlaw.com/wordpress/more-problems-for-ford-paint-defects-in-2000-2005-models/ car and truck companies should be held responsible for their mistakes. *tr

Dash electrical relay issue, paint peeling tailgate, transmission shutter going into overdrive 45 mph. *tr

When accelerating slowly from a stop light, the drivers side window fell down into the door. apparently the window regulator broke, an issue which is documented on numerous internet sites. the window dropping into the door created a very distracting driving situation, not to mention visual safety hazards as in today during rainy, foggy, humid conditions affecting the visibility through the remaining glass in the vehicle. *tr

Driving to church on may 6th, 2012 @ 0900 a.m. on the interstate traveling @ 70 mph. i lowered the window about an inch. when i pressed the button to raise the window a loud pop occurred and the window dropped into the door-well. it scared everyone in the truck. it was a sunny day. potential for loss of life is present with this issue. inclement weather or blinding debris within the cab could raise the potential for loss of life. please petition ford motor company for a recall on this potentially life threatening issue. *tr

Cross-reference ford tsb 07-13-5: water leak from ac has flooded the passenger floor pan and all associated carpeting and padding. significant health hazard exists in warm climates due to the proliferation of respiratory hazards including but not limited to legionnaire's disease. the item should be a recall for this reason. i have lost use of my truck due to the inability to sufficiently dry the padding - i have had the vehicle drying for one week in hot florida sun to no avail. *tr

The truck was not running. when the door was opened the flames , from the burning seat shot up and burnt the carpet and door panel , before it could be put out. the controls on the seat were completely melted. it still has a smell of an electrical fire. *tt

The paint is peeling off down to the metal on the roof of my truck. this is a $38,000 truck that i have kept washed and waxed since i bought it. ford will not claim responsibility. *tr

Poor quality paint on my 2005 ford f-150. it has begun peeling and exposing the primer. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f150. the contact stated while driving approximately 5-10 mph and attempting a turn, the driver side mirror was obstructing her view of anything on the drivers side of the vehicle. the contact stated the outside trim of the door was also obstructing her view of the left side when attempting a turn. the vehicle was not taken to the dealer for the failure. the vin was not available. the failure and current mileage was unknown.

Fordmotor company on the 2005 ford f150 there has been over 1000 complaints about the actuator on the four wheel drive there is a vacuum switch that operates them water runs down off the cowl contaminating the vac.line causing the actuator to go out therewas a service bulletin put out showing that they new of this problem and did nothing to correct it. the switch controls the vac. to the actuator with no vac. the four wheel drive is engage when .to make it simply it takes vacuum to disengage the four wheel drive if you are going down the road and the switch fails what's going to happen you will ruin the four wheel drive actuators and could get into or cause a accident. *tr

Paint chipping on the various areas of the truck. *tr

Easy access into ford trucks having plastic door handles and back plates. while the break in is not a direct safety issue, it could potentially be. it takes up valuable police resources investigating these crimes, which may be needed elsewhere. the thief has the potential to remove insurance cards, registrations, etc. containing personal information that are generally stored in glove boxes. there should be a reasonable amount of security that one can expect while in or away from a vehicle. the door handle and back plate design are faulty and allow for easy, rapid entry into the vehicle. *tr

Passenger side window regulator failure - fell inside door. according to dealer is a very common complaint caused by ford using cheap plastic clips to secure cables. had to tape up the window with plastic to proceed home. this is very unsafe and i know that ford is aware of the problem but refuses to fix this defect because the vehicle is out of warranty. glass cracked when it fell inside the door. ford needs to fix this common defect, or at least tell all future customers of this - before they put their money into this shoddy workmanship. *tr

I have a 2005 ford f-150 fx4 with 48,000 miles. towards the middle of winter, i noticed that the paint inside of the gas cap door at the bottom edge was starting to peel away from the body. it has progressively gotten worse over the last couple of months and is now visible with the gas door shut. i find this very disappointing considering the truck only has 48,000 miles on it and has been well taken care of. *tr

Was sitting idle in a parking lot when suddenly i heard a loud pop. when i started to roll my window down on my 2005 ford f150 super cab, the window dropped down and sounded like broken glass. after removing the panel i saw the cable messed up. then after googling to find an answer, i discovered that this is the exact problem that dozens, perhaps hundreds of others are experiencing with the power window regulator. the plastic clip breaks and the cable gets messed up. ford is making a killing off owners by using cheap, breakable parts. this should be recalled! i have no money to replace this regulator right now, so i am at the mercy of the gods in hope that someone doesn't steal my truck, or it doesn't rain, since with this part broken the window will not stay up. please push this through for a recall! *tr

Dealer did not repair vehicle per the recall notice,no work was done at all. contacted dealer serv. mgr., no attempt to look at vehicle. called ford cust serv. just took info ,no follow-up or call back. filled out cust card after service was performed noting complaint,no call or attempt to contact me. talked to a salesperson via email about dealer when approached to buy a truck by sales person, did not report to general mgr. about my issue with his serv. dept.. recall was for power brake booster line which fails. no sign of new parts, clamps or disturbed engine compartment dirt, grime, etc. when i brought truck home right after service. *tr

2005 ford f-150 with <25k miles has paint spontaneously peeling off of the tailgate, hood and roof. the local dealership (who did not sell this truck) initially stated that there were problems with the paint job, in the metal itself and pretended to file a pictorial claim of the damages. ford's "customer service" department denied the claim, stating that our request was to repaint areas that had scratches and dents. this is the furthest thing from the truth. "customer service" said that once a claim is reviewed they are done with it and there is no further recourse. in the meantime, we are stuck with a three-year old truck that is losing paint daily and beginning to rust. *tr

2005 ford f150 (22k) has several areas where paint is blistering. *tr
