We have classified the 33 complaints from 2005 Ford F-150 about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
The brake lights stopped working and the speed control brake pedal disconnect stopped working. speed control disconnect was achieved by using the steering wheel control but if the stopping situation had been an emergency one, an accident could have resulted as there was about a 1.5 second delay for me to figure out what was going on and correct the situation. while traveling at 70mph on i-10 with the speed control engaged, i went to exit the highway to get fuel and while depressing the brake pedal to reduce speed, the speed control began attempting to resume the original 70mph speed by revving the engine. later i determined that the alternator on the vehicle had failed and while the battery had enough voltage to keep the engine running and the voltage gauge had not moved yet, the battery did not have a full 12.5v output. when the brake pedal sensor does not have a full charging voltage input, it seems to stop working. therefore, the speed control disconnect failed and the brake lights failed to activate even though the motor and other components continued functioning normally. it seems that the brake pedal sensor is very voltage dependent (which was not the case on other vehicles i have owned). i notified ford of the situation after the incident occurred and have received nothing in response. i got rid of the vehicle and purchased a different one as i believe it is not safe and could result in traffic tickets/accidents (no brake lights) and speed control disconnect failures (accidents) if there are voltage fluctuations in the electrical system. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph uphill, the brakes began pulsating as the contact decelerated. in addition, the driver and passenger side windows had fallen into the door panel without warning. the vehicle had not been inspected by a dealer nor repaired. the manufacturer was not contacted. the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was approximately 158,000.
In a three car accident. the 1st car turned on their signal at the same time attempted to turn into their driveway, the 2nd car hit the 1st car from the rear, as my f-150 approached the 2nd vehicle, i applied the brakes to stop before colliding into 2nd vehicle and the brakes became soft and did not slow the f-150, the f-150 was traveling at well below the posted speed limit, air-bags did not deploy, there fore hitting the 2nd vehicle in the rear causing almost no damage to 2nd vehicle and causing an almost totaled front end to the f-150 with close to $13000 in damage to f-150. no major injuries were reported, only minor back pain to both persons in f-150 were concurred. *tr
I have an 05 ford f -150 and one night i came to a stop sign at top of hill with on coming traffic in both directions and my brake pedal went to floor but truck never stopped then it went completely powerless at night. rolled down hill home with no power or lights in neutral. had no warning or change in brakes. oil change and clockspring recall work done the day before at alan vigil dealership. truck has only been worked on by dealer for oil change and tire rotation. turned into someone's yard and drove till truck stopped on its own before trying to make it go home. i could have hurt someone or myself if i had not been a skilled driver.i tried to tell dealership to have part checked out for defect but they said it just blows a seal at anytime. i have had dozens of vehicles and this is the first and only master cylinder that i have had to replace. my truck only has 89000 miles on it looks and drives like a brand new truck. please help. no one or family should ever have my experience. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. the contact stated the front rotors had to be replaced twice because they were warped. the failure caused the steering to wheel to shake violently when driving at high speeds and braking. the contact also stated that the rotors were replaced twice within 7,000 miles of driving. the dealer had not given a reason for why the failure occurred. the failure mileage was 23,000 and the current mileage was 30,000.
This has happened 4 different occasions, a sudden shaking of vehicle and 4 th time the vehicle shook all over. at first, thought i was having a tire go down but after pulling off road each time, getting out and checking found nothing and then after a restart everything was ok. after i got home after this last spell i started reading on internet and most comments pointed toward parking brake problem. after thinking back it seems like i used the parking brake before each time this happened. i was preparing to replace rotors, pads & parking brake shoes too (yesterday) but after taking everything apart (my mechanic) we did not find any thing wrong with these components. there was probably 3/4 pads left and parking brake was good. the only thing was a lot of brake dust, so we cleaned everything with brake cleaner and put everything back together. hopefully this will cure the problem. everything that i read, was expecting the parking brake shoes to come out in pieces but not in this case. this is the only problem after owning this 2005 f150 for over 2 years and being the 2nd owner with low mileage. this just seems to be bad design, rotor & parking brake together. other than this problem very satisfied with vehicle. *tr
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f150. while driving approximately 20 mph, the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal but the vehicle would not respond. the vehicle was taken to the dealer yet the technician was unable to diagnose the failure. the manufacturer was contacted and stated there was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 08v208000 (service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings) but the contacts vin was not included in the recall. the vehicle was not repaired. the approximate failure mileage was 105,000.
Was driving my 2005 f-150 elt on 4 lane divided highway at approx 65-70 mph. when applied the brakes felt slight pull to the right. began smelling strong odor once entered town and was slowed to 35 mph. drove another 2-3 miles to home and smell intensified. once exited the truck saw smoke coming from the driversfront tire. front wheel was also extremely hot, was unable to touch it.
The following incident has been filed with the ford motor company. i want to be clear that this incident was not the result of a floor mat or driver error. at no time did the driver have her foot on the accelerator nor was there an object on, around, under, or over the accelerator. incident: on 18 february 2010 at approximately 1230 pm my wife, mother in-law, father in-law and infant daughter were proceeding northbound on water tower rd. located in bentonville, ar. there were zero distractions inside the vehicle and my wife was fully alert with no physical impairments. road conditions were dry and weather was sunny with great visibility. as they approached the intersection of water tower rd. and battlefield blvd. at approximately 5-10 miles per hour, my wife began breaking. after placing her right foot on the brake pedal, she immediately noticed/heard/felt/experienced increased acceleration and decreased breaking power during her attempts to stop. she immediately increased pressure on the brake pedal ensuring her right foot was not on the accelerator. the engine continued its efforts to increase speed while my wife fought to bring the vehicle to a stop. they proceeded into and through the vacant intersection at approximately 5-10 miles per hour and fortunately without incident. my wife's efforts to stop the vehicle continued beyond the intersection for an approximate 150 - 200 feet. the vehicle finally ceased its efforts to accelerate and came to rest at that point. after regaining their composure, my wife pumped the brakes in effort to determine the malfunction. unable to determine the problem and feeling comfortable to drive again, they proceeded cautiously only to have this happen once more. this second occurrence happened less than mile from the previous location with my wife being prepared for the malfunction. during this occurrence she pumped the brakes and stopped the increased revolutions of the engine immediately. *tr

2005 f150 4x2 regular cab. . purchased new from al packerd ford, royal palm beach, fl. i have noticed a vibration/shudder, from intermittently to continuously on short trips. on longer trips i noticed a couple times an odor of something burning. i brought it to advantage ford, 4000 se federal highway.po box 2930, stuart, fl. 34995, phone: 772-287-0955, to have it inspected and they said i needed a brake caliper on the right passenger side. mileage at time of inspection: 62,701. my concern is that this is a safety defect and a manufacturer defect as well. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. the contact stated that while driving 65 mph, the brakes started to pulsate and the steering wheel jerked violently. the vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the rotors were warped and as a result, the rotors needed to be replaced. the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. the failure mileage was 12,000 and the current mileage was 31,000. updated 03/16/12*lj updated 04/19/12
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while driving out of a parking space between 5-10 mph, the brakes failed to work. the vehicle was towed to a repair shop and the mechanic stated that the booster line failed, which caused the brake failure. the contact paid for the vehicle to be repaired. shortly after, he discovered that the vehicle was recalled according to nhtsa campaign id number 08v208000 (service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). he went to the ford dealer and they wanted to replace the same hose that was previously on the vehicle in an attempt to repair the failure. the contact refused to place the same defective hose in the vehicle. he believes that the recalled item should be replaced by a working item. the current and failure mileages were 19,000.
Front end vibration, contacted ford they advised not their problem, even though ford service bulletin 050502 states differently nhtsa 10017890. ford has failed to contact me again. and the vibration is getting worse. i have complained since day one of owner ship, ford continues to push me off. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford ford f-150. while driving 40 mph, the vehicle failed to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. the contact noticed that the pedal was stiff and felt as if there was no braking power. he placed the vehicle into neutral and depressed the brake pedal as hard as possible, which caused the vehicle to finally stop. the dealer stated that the brake assist hose was defective and caused the failure. the vehicle was repaired under warranty and the contact had to pay the deductible. he also called the manufacturer because he discovered nhtsa campaign id number 08v208000 (service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings), but was informed that his vin was not included in the recall. the current and failure mileages were 46,000.
I bought this truck with 48,000 miles on it. it had a bad shake in the rear area. also a bad brake shimmy. took to ford dealership i bought it. couldn't find anything wrong. told normal! i worked in the service dept of a ford dealership i know normal. 53,000 or so miles bad clunking from transfer area wouldn't go into 4 wheel drive 1/2 the time took to ford, told nothing wrong again. 72,000 miles transmission goes out. told nothing could be done, out by 2000 miles. i was a service manager for a ford dealership they could do a supplement on the warranty. i asked for 1/2 of cost told no. even after documentation of all the services and complaints told to bad so sad. this truck has had transmission troubles, 4 wheel drive trouble, the power window switch fell apart in the door and a bad brake shimmy even after i had a 4 wheel brake job done, its still there. no help from ford at all! *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while approaching an intersection, the brake pedal would not move when it was depressed and the vehicle would not stop. fortunately, after continually applying pressure to the brakes, the vehicle stopped. the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that his vin was not included in nhtsa campaign id number 08v208000 (service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). he would be responsible for the repair costs, which total $567. the dealer replaced the rubber hose on the brake booster vacuum supply tube assembly. the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer. the failure and current mileages were 54,000. updated 06/16/08 *bf the installed a power booster hose under the intake.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. the contact attempted to stop the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. on may 18, 2008, while approaching a stop sign, the contact depressed the brake pedal and the speed reduced to 30 mph; however, the vehicle would not stop and continued through a four lane highway. she was finally able to stop the vehicle. the dealer stated that the power brake booster vacuum supply hose was falling off, and they removed the intake and glued it back into position. the dealer further stated that nhtsa campaign id number 08v208000 (service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings) did not apply to her vin. the current and failure mileages were 133,077. updated 06/09/2008. *lj

I own a 2005 f150 with a 5.4 engine. the truck is 3 years old with 49,000 miles. the brakes failed without any notice or warning. the dealer says that the vacuum hose that leads from the back of the engine to the brake booster was worn and needed replacing. the service manager at the dealership said there were no recalls on the issue and i would have to pay for the worn part and labor. after doing a little research i contacted another dealership and they said they have seen the problem before and that there were no recalls on the issue. i have a tough time understanding how this type of brake failure can occur on such a new vehicle. i have looked over everything that ford gave me when i purchased the vehicle from them. nothing says that this part should be replaced at any mileage. they concern me with fluid changes, tire wear, etc. nothing about a hose that could put my life and the lives of my family and others in danger. the part that failed is located behind the engine and the only way to see if the part was worn is to take the top of the motor off. so i can assure you this part is never inspected until the brakes fail. the dealer did fix the truck at my expense stating they could do nothing. they said they would also report the issue to ford. i also called the ford motor company customer relationship center and they agreed with the dealer . no recalls on this issue. i need to see this issue is put under the microscope. someone will be killed or seriously injured if nothing is done about this manufacturing issue. this part shouldn't fail under normal driving conditions and if does there needs to be time spent notifying the public about the issue. not sweeping it under the floor mat. *tr
My vehicle stalled when trying to start. when it did start, i pressed the brakes and they were hard. i put my car in drive and tried to apply my brakes and the brakes didn't seem to work. i literally had to put 2 feet on the brakes and press down with all of my weight just to stop my truck. i brought it to the dealership and they said it was my vacuum line on my brakes that came off. it is going to cost me $375. thankfully i wasn't driving fast when my brakes gave out. *tr
Normal braking capability was suddenly and completely lost without warning when vacuum assist hose separated from fitting on the intake manifold. vacuum hose separated apparently due to some slight back-pressure that occurred when engine was started. original design did not include a clamp on the hose. correction of the problem required removal of the intake manifold to gain access to the vacuum fitting; the hose was replaced and clamped. mileage was 76,442 and extended warranty did not cover and it cost me $782. it is very disconcerting to learn that normal braking capability can be completely lost in this way without any warning whatsoever. i believe the ford motor company must be held fully responsible to correct what is clearly a design deficiency that has high potential to cause a serious accident resulting in personal injury or even death. i also feel that the ford motor company should reimburse me for cost of repair since the dealership told me that it knew of the problem and was informed to modify the vacuum hose assembly because they knew that the original composition was wrong. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f150. while slowing down to a complete stop, the vehicle rapidly accelerated. the contact depressed the brake pedal again to make sure that she depressed the correct pedal, and the vehicle jerked, continued to accelerate, and the engine revved. the vehicle only stopped when the passenger placed the gear into park. the contact struck the preceding vehicle and the bumper sustained minor damages. the contacts vehicle was towed to the dealer because she was afraid to drive it again. a police report was filed. she filed complaint number 0405860938 with ford. she was informed that it would be at least two weeks before she would hear from their legal department. there is currently an open investigation number pe08001 (service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum. service brakes, hydraulic:power assist:vacuum:hoses, lines/piping, and fittings). the current and failure mileages were 34,000. updated 4/29/08 *cn the damage was minor. updated 05/16/08
Loss of brakes while driving our f150 in march. almost hit a car in front of us - had to pull onto side of road into grass to stop the vehicle. local auto shop fixed the problem-"main vacuum feed off on back of manifold". *tr
I was in an accident due to brake failure. i was traveling at approximately 25 mph and approaching a stop light in moderate traffic. i had 80 ft to the vehicle in front of me and when i depressed my brake pedal it went 3/4 of the way to the floor and was vibrating as anti lock was engaged. i rapidly depressed the pedal again and the same occurred. on the third attempt the brakes finally engaged but was to late to stop the vehicle as i was only 2 feet from the car in front of me resulting in a crash. my speed was reduced to 8-10mph upon impact. the smaller car in front of me was knocked into a third car stopped at the light. damage occurred to the truck and the smaller car and very minor damage to the 3rd vehicle. the weather was sunny and the streets were completely dry. i could not get my vehicle stopped even with no load other than my passenger who is a witness to the incident. no injuries occurred in any of the three vehicles and no airbags were deployed. i am scared to death as i have owned the truck for 2 years and never had this happen in my life. the brakes worked perfectly immediately following the incident and the truck was taken to the ford dealer where purchased new and all service records are at this dealer. they thoroughly inspected the entire system and found no issues. system check on all sensors, lines, rotors and pads were ok. perfect working order ? *tr

I approached an intersection with a traffic signal...i attempted to stop my truck by applying the brakes...my truck went right through the red light and eventually stopped after the intersection. i heard a noise right before the truck actually stopped. i pulled off the main highway and tried applying the brakes again and they seemed to be okay. i proceeded home very slowly. *tr

Returning home from errands friday evening, my husband noticed a burning smell coming from the back of my truck. upon further investigation, the right rear passenger tire rim was very hot and there was a strong, burning odor. not wanting to due further damage, we made an immediate appointment with a local repair shop saturday morning. the mechanic was surprised he had to replace the right rear passenger caliper, brake pads and the right rear rotor now just makes spec after having to be resurfaced. i am the primary driver of this truck and almost always have my two small children with me. obviously, there is a problem here that someone needs to address immediately before there are any injuries or deaths. what has to happen to get someone's attention and have such a serious safety defect corrected? and let me just add that i only have 23, 500 miles on my truck. *tr
My daughter was operating my 2005 model f150 when the brakes went out, she was able to swerve off of the road to avoid an accident until the truck came to rest. no physical damage was incurred to her or the vehicle. upon investigation, the brake booster had lost vacuum (power assist) due to a vacuum hose that had fallen loose from the rear of the intake manifold. 600.00 repair to re-attach vacuum hose and clamp never installed at factory. *tr
Brake problems several times now i have had to have calipers, rotors, etc replaced. now my rear end seems to be slipping going around corners. *tr
Severe front brake shudder starting at 40,000 miles: turned rotor, severe brake shudder at 60,000 miles: replace l front rotor and brake pad: severe shudder at 80,000 miles: presently at 110,000 miles and ford tells me i need to replace the rotors and caliper to solve a problem that ford knew about before i purchased the new vehicle in aug 2005 (service bulletin 100117872 june 1 2005). it was not right for ford to sell me a truck with brakes that were already under a service bulletin. *tr
Normal braking capability was suddenly and completely lost without warning when vacuum assist hose separated from fitting on the intake manifold. vacuum hose separated apparently due to some slight back-pressure that occurred when engine was started. original design did not include a clamp on the hose. correction of the problem required removal of the intake manifold to gain access to the vacuum fitting; the hose was replaced and clamped. mileage was 23,442 but vehicle was out of warranty due to age of 39 months. dealer did a "goodwill - after warranty" repair for which i was required to pay 20% or a minimum of $100. it is very disconcerting to learn that normal braking capability can be completely lost in this way without any warning whatsoever. i believe the ford motor company must be held fully responsible to correct what is clearly a design deficiency that has high potential to cause a serious accident resulting in personal injury or even death. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while driving 10 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but it would not move. as a result, the vehicle would not stop and ran a red light. the parking brake was applied and the vehicle finally stopped. the vehicle was driven to the dealer and they stated that the vacuum hose detached from the manifold. the hose tubing was replaced. the vin was unknown. the current and failure mileages were 36,900.
My husband has taken our 2005 ford f-150 to the dealer we purchased it from twice concerning brakes and rotors. the first time was around 7,400 miles. they turned the rotors and said all was fine. at around 18,000 mile he again had to go back due to a bad vibration. they turned the rotors yet again instead of replacing them. we had new tires put on our truck yesterday and we were informed the brakes and rotors are nearly shot. this is at only 28,000 miles. this has to be due to a defect in the workmanship. i know of no other vehicle i have driven that has had these problems early on. *tr
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while driving 10-15 mph, the brake pedal felt very stiff when it was depressed. the contact had to depress the brake pedal with excessive pressure in order to stop the vehicle. when the vehicle finally came to a stop, it was in the middle of an intersection. the vehicle was pushed back to the driveway. there were no warning indicators and the road conditions were dry. the vehicle was not inspected by a dealer. the current and failure mileages were 49,173.

Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while driving the contact depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle failed to stop. he literally had to apply all of his weight on the brake pedal in order to stop the vehicle. the dealer stated that the failure was caused by the vacuum hoses. the current and failure mileages were 53,800. the dealer stated that the replacement hose is designed different from the original which the consumer thinks ford is aware of this problem with the brake hose. updated 06/08/07 *tr
At 15,000 and 30,000 mile scheduled maintenances a brake hose inspected should be done. in our case it was completed and according to the dealership there were no found problems. however, when we were driving around a curve and there was a teenager on a four wheeler on our side of the road and we braked to avoid the child ...we had no brakes on our 2005 f-150 supercrew. we were able to avoid injuries with our family inside the vehicle and the child we almost hit due to the brake failure. upon towing the vehicle in they said that the brake hose into the intake was worn and blew off when we depressed the brake fast. i asked why this wasn't checked and they said because it was too hard to get to for a physical inspection during maintenance. the service tech also said he has seen this with several f150's. i see this as being a serious danger for these brake hoses to blow off and not be where they can be checked. we are paying for maintenance that is not being done not to mention peoples lives are at stake. *tr
As i approached a stop sign brakes failed to brake properly. the brakes were tight and no amount of pressure would stop the truck. i put it in n and it eventually rolled to a stop with the help of gravity and the incline leading up to the intersection. i had my 2005, f150 towed to the nearest ford dealership. the faulty hose was replaced with a 'reinforced one. which leaves me to believe ford has had trouble with this part prior to this incident. why else would they replace the faulty part with this new, so-called reinforced one. the old part is not available because i was told the dealership had to send it to ford motor co. i wonder how many accidents, collisions, near misses, and deaths occurred because of brake failures that went unreported. had this failure occurred in march, just north of tailgate , all on route 77, when the tractor trailer truck pulled in front of me, i 'm sure the accident would have become another statistic reported as an unfortunate fatality caused by a careless truck driver. no one would have thought to investigate the brakes on my truck.*ak
Tl* - the contact called regarding the 2005 ford f150. the contact stated that when attempting to put the vehicle in reverse the brakes failed. the contact pulled over and turned the vehicle off. there were no warning indicators. the contact had the vehicle towed to a ford dealer. who diagnosed the failure as being a result of a lack of vacuum in brake booster. the ford dealer found that the intake vacuum connection failed because the hose had become soft. the failure mileage was 64, 277. the dealer had to remove the throttle and fuel rail to access and replace the hose. the current mileage was 66000.*ak updated 04/05/07*jb

While trying to stop my ford f-150 truck, i was actually hitting the accelerator at the same time as i was pushing the brake pedal. i could not tell that it was happening until it was too late. as i pshed on the brake the truck did not seem to slow down nearly as fast as it should have, so i pushed harder on the brake and that did not seem to work properly, then i realized the right edge of my foot was actually depressing the accelerator, but you could not really feel it since it has very little resistance. when i realized what was happening, i tried to lift my foot off the accelrator, but to do so i had to release the brake a bit. when i did that, the vehicle lurched forward toward the car in front of me and hit it. it happens because as you are hitting the accelerator while trying to brake, the engine revs up to high rpm, as you try to get your foot off the accelerator, and release the brake a bit, the car thinks you want to go fast and takes off because of the high rpm. this happened to me about two or three weeks ago, but it just seemed like an oddity at the time so i did not really think it was a big deal. then it happened to me again yesterday when i needed to stop quickly because everyone had slammed on the brakes in front of me, so when i went to hit my brakes, i inadvertantly was hitting the accelerator at the same time again, only this time, it caused an accident as i plowed into the car in front of me. i had plenty of room in front of me, at least 10 to 15 feet or more, and we were only traveling between 5 to 10 miles per hour. i wonder how many other drivers have had this occur to them. i have been driving vehicles for thirty years and have never had this happen to me until i drove this truck, and it has now happened at least 2 times in the last month. i am driving this truck since august this year. *nm
