We have classified the 33 complaints from 2005 Ford F-150 about SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC into the following categories.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. the contact stated that the brake pedal was to close to the gas pedal. the contact approached a red light, engaged the brake pedal and accelerator pedal simultaneously. the vehicle lunged forward just enough to hit the vehicle in front of him at 10 mph. the current and failure mileages were 50,000. updated 11/16/10. *lj
Dt*: the contact stated upon starting the vehicle in the morning, without any warning signal to indicate brake failure, the brake pedal was depressed and would not go all the way to the floor. the vehicle was towed to the dealership who determined a vacuum line had disconnected due to oil presence in the connection. the rubber hose was replaced. the contact denied any traces of oil in the surrounding of the vacuum hose connection. updated 11/03/06. *jb
Dt*: the contact stated while on a hill applying brake pressure at 8mph , the brake pedal dropped to the floorboard and there was a loss of all braking power. the vehicle was placed in neutral which allowed the vehicle to roll downhill and strike a fence. the seatbelt was worn and no injuries were sustained. however, the was minor damage to the vehicle. the police was not alerted. the vehicle was towed to the dealer who determined the master cylinder was inoperative. the master cylinder replacement corrected the braking problem. the manufacturer was not alerted.
2005 f150 rwd vehicle has been into ford repair 3 times for brakes (parking brake, abs). one occasion the temperature of the lt rear hub was 385 degrees f by inferred thermometer. another occasion rt rear was too hot to touch after sitting for an hour. this vehicle has aluminum rims that the dealer states show no damage. also unknown is what this temperature may have caused to the rear bearings, seals and other brake components (calipers). abs light intermittent on and driveablity was intolerable with shaking and vibration. fuel consumption got worse by 30%. vehicle taken to dealer and parts were replaced (rotor, abs sensor, parking brake reattached) , parking brakes was found disconnected in the semi locked position on the second return, missed on first return. unable to get old parts. *nm
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. while driving 50 mph, the rear calipers froze. the wheels began smoking and the vehicle was taken to the dealer. they stated that there was a malfunction with the calipers. the dealer also discovered that an axle seal was leaking, which saturated the brake fuse for the emergency brake. the dealer replaced the seal and calipers and turned down all four rotors on the vehicle, but did not replace the brake pads. the failure recurred and the dealer replaced the rear calipers, rear rotors, and brake pads. the contact wanted to charge him for the brake pads (parts, not labor). the current mileage was 29,250 and failure mileage was 12,500. updated 4/2/08 *cn updated 04/02/08 *tr
While coming to a stop occasionally the brake pedal has a loss of pressure feel and the brake pedal goes to the floor. on the 26th of july i took the vehicle to power ford in valencia ca. and they stated they could not find a problem. it is my belief the vacuum brake booster is leaking pressure when the ambient temperature is high, both times this occurred the outside temperature was above 110 degrees. *jb

I experienced extreme front brake shudder after only 6200 miles on this vehicle. i feel that this is a serious design fault of the front rotors. i had the vehicle serviced under warranty and the front rotors were cut. i am just waiting for the rotors to warp again, and hopefully they won't cause an accident. no help from inquiries with ford motor company about this problem. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated after releasing the emergency brakes from the vehicle in preperation to drive, the emergency brakes would stick in place. this caused the vehicle to travel with the emergnecy brakes appied generating pressure toward the tires which caused them to run hot and burn. the burning released a burning tire odor. the dealers determined there would be a charge for any service even though vehicle was under warranty. no repairs were done.
Tl*the contact owns a 2005 ford f150. the contact noticed that his brake pedal was soft and spongy, making it difficult to brake. the brake pedal would extend to the floor when it was depressed. the dealer and manufacturer stated that the vehicle was supposed to function in that manner. the dealer worked on the vehicle several times, but failed to correct the failure. a ford representative drove the vehicle, acknowledged the failure, and ordered parts for the repair. however, the failure still persists. the current mileage was approximately 25,000 and failure mileage was approximately 4,000.
I have not had a failure at this time. the problem is the brakes on my 2005 f-150. the pedal has always been mushy and engages the brakes at different levels when applied, i never where the braking will begin. some times if i am parking a trailer where the brakes are used a lot the pedal will be almost to the floor. i did almost back into a car when parking because the brakes didn't engage until pedal was quite low. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated while driving 10 mph the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle accelerated forward crashing into another vehicle. the vehicle was taken to the dealer where the problem could not be duplicated. no police report was filed however; a representative from the dmv filed a report. update 5/2/2006 - *nm
Dt*: the contact stated while applying the brake the pedal goes to the floor and the contact's foot presses the accelerator. the dealer indicated the brakes operate as designed and both the brake and accelerator pedals meet the fmvss. no repairs have been made. updated 3/28/2006 - *nm
At 20,000 miles i took my 2005 f150 supercrew xlt 4x4 into firestone, to have the brakes checked. the technician informed me that there appeared to be nothing wrong with the pads, as i still had about 65-70% left on them. however there was an issue with the rotors. he stated they were warped. knowing this is not normal, i asked if this was a common thing on the new model fords. and he stated that they have had a lot of them in for the exact same thing, warped rotors. i told him to put the truck back together and would take to ford. he stated that the reason they were warping, was because of a design defect which did not allow them to get enough air to cool, and if brakes were applied hard, then caused them to warp. i took the truck to ford dealership ( jenkins and wynne in clarksville, tn.) informed the service writer. as i was speaking to him, a tech from the shop walked in, and said there was a big problem with them. they took my truck into the shop, and after a day informed me that my truck had the "new and improved brakes" already installed. i asked how they could be new and improved if doing the same as the old style. they stated they would take care of me. when i inquired as to the how? the service writer stated " we will machine them." i told him that just means that they were going to grind the rotors flat, and that it wasn't fixing the issue. i would just have to have a complete total brake replacement at 40,000 miles. he commented that there was nothing they could do. i asked if this was normal for trucks to be coming in with warped rotors at 20,000 miles, and he just shrugged his shoulders. i asked him, what are we as truck owners supposed to do, replace the rotors every 30-40,000 miles. again he just shrugged and said there was nothing he could do. after they ground the rotors, and put the truck back together, less than 500 miles they started doing the same thing, and i almost had an accident. they will "pulse and the vehicle will lurch" *jb
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle had an improper brake adjustment which made the slack adjuster length different on each side of an axle. the dealership did not find any problem and the contact requested that the brake chambers be replaced and each of the service chambers must be of the same size across the vehicle's axles. updated 10/18/2006 - the brake pedal travels past the accelerator pedal and has caused trouble while the consumer attempts to stop the vehicle. the consumer has inadvertently it both pedals at the same time. *nm
While driving my 2005 f150, the passenger side rear tire started locking up and smelling really bad. i stopped to investigate and found the rim to be very hot. i drove it a few more miles to a local ford dealer. they said they were going to loan me a car for free and fix the problem. i asked what problem and they said the problem they have started having with f150 brake calipers locking up while customers are driving. it bothers me that i had to find out about the problem this way. i think ford should be telling customers about this problem right now before someone gets hurt bad from this defect. *jb
When starting my vehicle in the parking lot it sputtered and did not start the first time. no problem the second time. after starting the second time i noticed the power brakes did not work. i turned the truck off to try to reset the system, still no brakes. i drove home very carefully using my entire body weight to stop the vehicle at stop lights. there would be no way to stop if i did not have plenty of room in front of me. i took the truck into the ford dealer and was told a hose is leaking or has come loose behind the intake manifold. cost approx 700.00. i have contacted ford for potential payment. *tr
Brakes failed 3 times. last time pedal went to floor and i went through stop sign. also had throttle sticking. after pedal sinks to floor & you try a second attempt then it works fine. truck has been at dealership since february 10, 2006 & is still there today april 17, 2006. ford refuses to acknowledge or repair problem. ford told me to drive it until it happens again and notify them. vehicle is not drivable in it's current condition. *nm
I have experienced brake failures on at least 5 occasions. it has occurred at slow speed when approaching a stop at an intersection and when behind other vehicles in traffic. the brakes appear to be engaging the anti-lock braking system and start to pulse but fail to stop. all of the incidents have occurred when the pavement was completely dry and the road surfaces were clean. all incidents have been narrow misses in traffic collisions. after each incident the brakes appear to return to normal function and only once have i been able to duplicate the failure which was in a parking lot shortly after the very first incident. during each incident i initially apply and hold the brake until i realize complete failure and then release and re-apply. except for yesterday (01/01/2006) the brakes engaged on the second attempt. yesterday the vehicle came to a stop on the third attempt but only because the initial speed was so slow the vehicle just ran out of forward momentum and the minimal braking held the vehicle. i backed out of the intersection, braked, tested stopping and the brakes appeared fine at that time. i plan to take the vehicle back to the dealership tomorrow. the dealership has seen the vehicle for this problem in addition to a charging light problem and have failed to fix either problem. the dealership stated that they were unable to find a braking problem and were unable to re-create the braking malfunction. their resolution was to bleed the braking system and return the vehicle to service. *nm
the accident happened december 19, 2005: cause: brake failure. we were stopped at a red light and i was holding pressure on the brake pedal when it collapsed to the floor and rolled in to the car in front of us. at that time there was only 2000 miles on the pick-up. i wasn't sure what happened until we were at another stop light and it happened again, but this time i pumped the brake pedal until i had pressure. we returned home in march and i went to the dealer whom we purchased it from (valu ford at elbow lake, minnesota) and told them of the problem. he tried it and said he could not find a problem. i got into the pick-up and showed him how the master cylinder collapses when pressure is held on it. he tried another pick-up same year and said that's the way its supposed to be??? i went to another ford dealer in alexandria (juettner motors) and told him what happened and what i wanted done and they told me my insurance company should taken care of the problem and didn't even check the brakes. i have taken the pick-up to 5 different independent garages and they have all said the master cylinder should not collapse when pressure is held on the pedal. i went back to the dealer and ask if they could have a company tech explain to me why the master cylinder collapses when pressure is held on the pedal. i have heard nothing from them. i feel very strongly that ford has a problem with their master cylinder and should be fixed. i complained to ford again and ask them to have some one explain to me why the brakes should collapse when pressure is held on them. they sent out an independent source and he had the pick-up for about three hours and sent a report back to ford saying that the electric brakes for the camper were the probable cause?? there is no hydraulics involved with the electric brakes. nothing has been done to fix the problem.. *jb

Dt: the contact stated while traveling on the highway going at 55 mph the vehicle hit something in the middle of the highway with the left front tire. the brakes were applied but they did not work. the consumer then lost control of the vehicle. the vehicle traveled into the median and collided with the retaining wall. this was a frontal impact. the seat belts failed to properly restrain the consumer and the air bags failed to deploy which resulted in injuries to the occupant. the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop a couple of weeks prior to the accident for an abs problem. they were unable to duplicate the problem with the brakes. *ak updated 1/25/2006. *nm
Dt*: the contact stated after attempting to apply sudden brake pressure, the vehicle struck another vehicle in the rear resulting in minor damage. the brakes stopped the vehicle, however not before the point of impact. no injuries were sustained and the police were not notified. afterwards, the contact discovered the brake pedal was too close to the accelerator pedal. it was suspected that due to the design this could be unsafe, although the placement of the accelerator pedal was not a factor in the accident. the dealer was notified. a manufacturer representative inspected the vehicle. it was determined the placement of the accelerator and brake pedal met federal motor vehicle safety standards and no corrections were made.
Tl* the contact owns a 2005 ford f-150. when depressed the brakes pedal went all the way to the floorboard without warning. the failure occurred intermittently, and speedwas not a factor. the vehicle was taken to two different ford dealers, and neither one could find any failures. the master cylinder had been replaced. the current mileage is 28,619, and failure mileage was 318. *ak updated 07/06/07 *tr
Total brake failure, 2005 f-150 supercrew, king ranch 4x4 occurred in traffic on 11 nov 2005, at a speed 34 mph. when i pressed the brake pedal, there were no brakes. my would have wrecked the vehicle, had she been driving, she was hysterical when the brakes failed. i used the emergency brake and down shifted to slow the vehicle. i didn't hit the vehicle in front of me, i managed to get the vehicle to the side road parking lot. there was absolutely no indication prior to this failure. it appeared i had lost the vacuum booster assist on my vehicle. the vehicle was towed to beale pkwy lincoln mercury for repair as it is under factory warranty. the service advisor called and told me my vehicle was ready late on the 12th. i went to the dealership to pickup my vehicle and talked with the mechanic that repaired it. i asked him what he did and he told me he reconnected a vacuum hose to the back of the manifold and stated it had blown off. i ask how did you secure it. he told me by pushing it back onto the port it came off of. i ask him why not install a clamp to keep this from recurring. he stated he would have to remove the manifold to accomplish a clamp installation. beale lincoln mercury repaired my vehicle the best they could under the circumstances. i feel the mechanic should have installed something to secure the hose so this doesn't happen again, but he stated he didn't think ford would pay for removing the manifold to install a clamp. i think ford would much rather pay for a manifold r & r instead of a law suit from an accident, especially one with injuries or deaths due to a faulty design that renders the brakes useless. this has occurred on many other f-150's, some with accidents involved. check the internet for f-150 brake failures. ford needs to address the brake failure on the f-150's with 5.4l engines before there is more damage or serious injuries. this should be an immediate recall by ford. i am now uneasy driving this vehicle. *tr
Brake pedal slowly sank to floor as i was trying to stop before pulling onto a street from a driveway. drove the short distance to home and the brake pedal continued to sink to the floor when light pressure was applied. it took a sturdy push to actually stop the vehicle. had truck towed to nearest dealership. they report that they cannot duplicate the problem and did multiple tests and found nothing. it is dangerous to drive in this city with unreliable brakes. i don't want to hurt someone or myself. the dealership shows lack of concern. *nm
Dt: contact stated while trying to stop the vehicle the brake pedal went all the way to floor. the vehicle was taken to the dealership three times for this same problem. the first time the dealership bled the brakes. this did not fix the problem. the second time the dealership changed the master cylinder. the problem was not repaired. the vehicle was taken to the dealership for the third time, they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. *ak
Had my f150 for less than 3 months when noticed the vibration when applying the brakes, also has rough idle, and rough suspension. took to dealer they stated nothing wrong... well now its been about 9 month and the vibration has gotten so bad that when brakes are applied you get the steering wheel shaking along with the truck. again i took to the dealer now they tell me my rotors are warped and i need an alignment and new tires cause it ate the tread off the inside of the tires, and they want to charge me $400.00. i talked to the tire warranty department he even said that it shouldn't be happening along with many others. but ford service says it normal.....now i am driving a truck with kids that is unsafe. are they wanting for people to die before they correct this problem?? *jb
Dt: noticed on september 9, 2005 that the residue around the master cylinder. cleaned off the residue and oil around master cylinder. it was leaking brake fluid and intermittently the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. there was no forewarning and no noise. contacted the dealer, the vehicle was going to the dealer on september 30, 2005. *ak
Dt: on september 2, 2005 vehicle skidded while coming to a stop. it skidded three times since then, twice while stopping at a traffic light, and while trying to make a turn into the driveway. also, the vehicle vibrated. this happened intermittently, and t happened on dry pavement. took vehicle to the dealer, they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. there was no forewarning and there was no noise. *ak
Front rotors warped within 9000 miles and when brakes are applied the steering wheel jumps and vibrates uncontrolibly rotors were resurfaced at 10,293 miles then replaced at 11,475 miles and replaced again at 17,158 miles and at this time i was told that the warranty would expire at 23,475 miles on the rotors and i would have to pay for replacement parts and labor after this mileage as of this date i have 20,400 miles on vehicle and the rotors again are starting to warp which causes vibration when brakes are applied *nm

2005 ford f150 loss brake pedal pressure. brake pedal slowly goes to the floor with little or no brakes. leaks brake fluid out of the master cylinder reservoir from under cap. *nm
2005 ford f150 developed extreme front wheel brake pad dust. *mr the dust had completely coated the front wheels. the consumer had been made aware of other same make/model(s) that have experienced the same problem. *sc
Excessive frame/tire "wobble" 2005 ford f150 4x4. vibration at 50-70 mph, brake pads, rotors overheating causing warped rotors then increasing vibration with possible "death wobble" . tested 3 2005 f150 with service manager "lyle" who confirmed and later backtracked with "ford2005 f150 trucks wobble and its normal.........
Dt: at 400 miles the vehicle shook violently when putting pressure on the brakes. this happened on may 18, 2005. contacted the dealer, and then took the vehicle to the dealer, who claimed the rotors were warped from heat. they got permission from ford to put on different rotors. after leaving the dealer the brake light came on. the consumer went back to the dealer. they checked and discovered there was no brake fluid in the master cylinder. left the dealer again , went to apply the brakes and there was no brake fluid in master cylinder, the fluid was in the rims of the vehicle, and on the ground. this wore out the tires and the brakes still were not working properly. ford was suppose to send a representative to meet with the consumer , and had not done so. currently, the consumer went to a different dealer , and they just swapped the tires from the front to the back. then , they changed/ turn ed the rotors. the consumer spoke with manufacturer , who blamed the dealer, but the dealer blamed the manufacturer. *ak
On 3-17-05 brake peddle went to the floor. i had jump the curb to avoid another car. had towed to mike shad ford and was told "they could not duplicate the problem!" on 3-22-05 coming to a red light my brakes failed again. i applied the emergency brake and stopped. i took the truck back to the same dealer and the service manager confirmed the failure.
Dt: while driving 5-10 mph the brake pedal went straight to the floor and the consumer had to put it in park to get vehicle to stop at a stop sign. this occurred on 3-1-05 for the first time. the consumer took vehicle to the dealership and they replaced the master cylinder and solenoid valve block. also, they put in some brake fluid. it happened again under the same circumstances on 8-10-2005. the next time consumer took vehicle to the dealership they could not identify the cause of the problem. they ran several tests on the vehicle after contacting the technical services person for the manufacturer. they did nothing to alter the vehicle. *ak *jb
